You get a 10-piece pack of delicious chicken for just $8.99. And for every pack sold, Kentucky Fried Chicken will donate $0.40 to the game's appeal. Saturday the 5th, 8 or 5 PM, I was on a routine orbit making my usual round in Oberon Galaxy when I materialized into an alien atmosphere. I had a strong hunch that this planet was uninhabited. That one was willing to take a second opinion. Charlie Jupiter, who are you? Where are the dirty traitor quitters? Cadet Tim Nelson on space patrol. What base? Space base? Planet Earth, 400 miles that way. What do you do? I'm a singer. Ah, gee, it gets so quiet and lonely out here. Wouldn't you sing for us? Yeah. Oh, well, okay then. Ah, we're going to have trouble. Easy. Yes, basic. Starlight, starlight Shine down on me Bring back my baby Back home to me First I see In the heavens tonight Bring back my baby To australia I know there's ways we can stand the fact We can all admit, but we must wait until the day You come back to me Starlight, starlight Wait till my place Bring back my baby Back home to me Starlight, starlight Please hear my plea Bring back my baby Back home to me Bring back my baby Back home to me applause applause Ah, it's all happening. Coming out of everywhere. I enjoyed that very much. Thank you, Timmy, and all your critters over there. Starlight, starlight. Lonnie Lee would jump up and down listening to that. He recorded the original. All those my friends from the 60s will remember. I'd like you to meet the director of the planetarium at the museum. This is Dr. Robin Hurst, everybody, and he's got some interesting things. applause I guess... Do we call you doctor? You can call me Robin. I'll call you Robin. Thank you, Robin. Everybody around the world at this time is excited, of course, because Hallie's Comet is back in circulation after how many years? 76 years. It comes back about every 76. Do you know, Robin, people will think this is really dumb. I've been in the music business for 25 years, and I never connected the two, Bill, Hallie, and the Comets. Bill, Hallie, and the Comets. That's where the name comes from, Bill, Hallie, and the Comets, right? That's exactly right. Yeah, well, I didn't know that. In fact, that's sort of set the pronunciation of Hallie's Comet back 30 years. Back a bit, yes. Of course, they took one out. Everybody calls it Hallie's Comet. In fact, it's Hallie's Comet. This is a model of the Earth and all the planets, or the Sun and all the planets that revolve around it, right? That's right. And when you turn that on, I guess you can show us how they all... That's right. We've got the Sun here, Mercury, Venus, and this is the Earth here with its moon. That's the blue one. Right. And then Mars, Jupiter, Saturn. We haven't got enough room to put the others on. Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. There's fantastic songs about all these places, isn't there? You know, the... By the light of the silvery moon... Venus. Venus, if you will, please send a little... Mars, Mars is making eyes at me. OK, now, how does the Hallie's Comet travel through all this system here? Right. All the planets are moving almost in circles clockwise, and Hallie's Comet goes the opposite way round, and it goes around in a huge elliptical orbit. It starts out here near Mark, and that's where it was in 1948, and then it slowly comes in and it speeds up as it comes in, comes right around in between the Sun and the Earth, and then heads off right back out here again, and that takes about 76 years. Fantastic. Now, we've got some animated footage of Hallie's Comet, and perhaps, Robin, you can tell us a little bit about the origins of Hallie's Comet. What is it actually made up of? Well, it's like a dirty snowball. If you look at... Remember that when you go skiing and you see... Some big cosmic snowman out there through a dirty snowball some millions of years ago, right? It probably looks very much like the sort of snow you find at the bottom of the ski run, you know, all mushed up with dust and dirt in it. Right. Now, this is Hallie's Comet coming towards us. Now, I understand that when it is in the far reaches of the solar system, in fact, it's not visually the same as what it is at the moment, right? It doesn't have that tail. Why is that? No. As it comes closer to the sun, it just warms up by the sunlight, the strength of the sun, and that melts a lot of the ice, which comes off with the dust, and then that gas and dust gets pushed behind the comet's head to form a long tail. But the comet only looks like that when it's just in the vicinity of the sun. Most of its life, it's just a big chunk of dirty ice. I remember when I was a kid, you used to read about this phenomena that happened around about 1910, and people were very scared of it at that time, I guess like most things that we don't know about, we are afraid of. Exactly, yes. What happened around that time? Some funny stories, I believe. All sorts of things. In Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, they even locked the baby kangaroos up because they thought that the last time the comet came, there was an epidemic of young kangaroo deaths. And in fact, a lot of people, because they were very frightened, because they thought there was a poisonous gas in the tail of the comet, and a lot of people thought they might be gassed by it. Of course they wouldn't be because the gases are so... Wasn't there a charlatan that sold some anti-Halley's Comet pills? That's right. To save people from the comet, they sold pills and made a fortune, in fact, selling comet pills. Terrific. Well, we're going to get around Australia a unique opportunity to have a look at Halley's Comet. TAA is flying up. I believe people are coming from Europe to watch it here. That's right. We've got Americans coming across in luxury cruises. We've got people coming in the Concorde. Australia is the centre of all the comet activity because it's going to be high in our sky. Terrific. Did you enjoy that, boys and girls? I did. It was good fun, wasn't it? Would you say a special thank you everybody around Australia to one of the people who takes away the mystery of Halley's Comet? And I think that's a good thing, especially for children, because there's nothing to fear. It's a fantastic phenomena, and we're really pleased to have had you with us. Sure, thanks very much. Good on you, Doctor. Thank you. APPLAUSE CHEERING When I see the way some people drive, I'd feel safer driving my family around in a tank. With this sort of protection, you're less likely to pay for other people's silly mistakes. But it's not very practical. What is practical is the Queensland Road Safety Council defensive driving course. It's a lot cheaper than paying for other people's silly mistakes. The defensive driving course. It's a way to protect yourself and your family. Phone this number for details of your next defensive driving course. CHEERING Woo! Very nice-looking audience with us tonight, too, and I'd like you to meet a very special young lady that all of our Sydney friends watching right now will know very well, because she's the telethon girl from the Kids Telethon, which is on right at this very moment, and if you look at your screens coming right now, you'll see a telephone number that you can all call if you want to make your donations. And Fiona's a big young Talent Time fan, right, Fiona? Yes. And who's your favourite you told me before? Um, well, everybody. I like everybody. You like everybody. Weren't you Natalie's neighbour or something? I used to go to school with Natalie. Did you? Well, she's going to sing a song, especially for you a little while later. So I hope you enjoy that. It's really generous. I mean, it's really wonderful on occasions like this, especially all the Sydney people who have taken the care tonight to ring up, and especially the kids, with Fiona's encouragement and with all our encouragement, please get on those phones and start ringing and do your bit for the Kids Telethon, because it's unique, isn't it? I mean, this is our telethon, right? Us kids. Yeah. Us kids. Big kids. Us big kids. I'm still a big kid. I couldn't do the show if I wasn't a big kid. It's really lovely to meet you, and thank you again for all your hard work on the telethon. Continued good luck and good cheer, and is there anything you want to say to all the kids out there? Just hello and... Don't forget to send in your donations. Yeah? Yep. Well, you tell them. Go on. Don't forget to send in your donations to all the children at the hospital. Good on you. Fiona Gallagher, everybody. A real sweetheart. Now, centre stage with some more space-type stuff. Here's Lorena and all the rest of the Mad Gang. Give her a... Hi. You're tuned to Young Telltime. To celebrate Hayley's Comet and its flight across Australia, the White Light Orchestra have put together some great music on this new LP. Let's listen to one track called Dirk Comet while we watch 25 Years of Man's Conquest of Space. Here comes Dirk Comet. Let's go. Here comes Dirk Comet. Here comes Dirk Comet. Here comes Dirk Comet. Here comes Dirk Comet. Here comes Dirk Comet. Here comes Dirk Comet. Show me. Wow. What a great video. What can I say? Thank you to all those courageous astronauts. Young Telltime, salute you. You're our neighbours in space. Thank you. I'm your good neighbour. Remember, you can watch Neighbours at seven o'clock every weekday. Watch for your favourite people on Neighbours. There's lots to choose from. Little ones, big ones, really good people. So, here's our favourite neighbour, our special guest, Marty Coffey. So, here's our favorite neighbor, our special guest, Marty Coffey! Thank you. Thank you, Bevin. Bevin didn't really tell you much about me. I do a juggling act. Hup! Yes, a juggling act. And I'm starting off with skill. Hup! It's actually two different ways of doing skill. With applause. By the way we were doing it. Oh, thank you. It's alright. You can save that applause because I'm about to do a very difficult trick with the hat. A trick which always gets a big round of spontaneous applause. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. I'll tell you when. That's not it. That's not the hard part. The hard part is getting the hat on the head. What I'm going to do is I'm going to kick the hat into the air and catch it on my head. This trick's called the old kick the hat up in the air, catch it on the head trick. Hup! Hey! Thank you. Thank you. And for the next trick, we're going to need a volunteer from the audience. Oh good, a volunteer. What's your name, son? Warwick. Warwick. Bevin, can you bring that up here, Bevin? My lovely assistant. Alright. Now, we're going to start off with some fire eating. You're going to help me with this. Alright. Any of you kids ever seen fire eating before? Yes. You have? Forget it then. Alright, here's what I want you to do. Hold that. Now, son, I want you to watch me. Whatever you do, don't do this. Just watch. Okay, go ahead. Bet you wonder how I do this without burning my mouth. I don't. Fire eating. Alright, Warwick. We're going to do a little magic trick. This is a Haley's Comet magic trick. I just want you to sit down. I want you to put your fingers like that for me. That's good. Thumbs up. Doing fine. Ow. He's good at this. Look at that. You could get a job with the government, you know. This is a magic trick where I'm going to make toilet paper disappear right in front of this little boy's eyes. What's your name again? Warwick. That's right. Warwick, watch carefully. I'm going to take this wad of toilet paper. I'm going to place it in my hand. I want you to blow on it. Watch his face when he sees it's gone. We'll do it again. Now, look, if you can figure out how the trick's done, don't give it away here. We're going to do it again. This time I want you to watch really carefully, Warwick. Once again, I'm just going to place that in my hand. It's going to disappear, all right? Watch carefully. Place it in my hand. Blow on it. Watch his face when he sees it's gone, all right? Wait, wait. This time, a really big piece of toilet paper. You tell me when to stop, Warwick. Remember, the more I take off, the stupider you look, kid. All right, good. Big piece, big piece. Think you can do this one. Hey, I'm going to stuff it in my hand. Blow on it. Would you bet me 50 bucks it's still there? No? Too bad. Could have made some easy money. Tell you what, this is why it's called the Haley's Comet trick. I'm going to take the whole roll of toilet paper. I'm going to take the whole roll. I'm going to place it in my hand. Take a bow. Take a bow. Take a bow. Keep going. Mother, mother, in your world there is no other, always there with a smile, we calm us down when we are well covered. Mother, a mother just like you. Dear Johnny and the team, I'd love you to do a song for my mother, Amy Bennett, who is 97 years old. She's 97 years old in January. Mum enjoys gardening and reading and she's been writing her life story since she was the age of three. Gee, that would be so good. You tell me to say that, mum. We are great fans of Young Talent Time and we watch it together every Saturday night. And among the seven grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 12 great, great grandchildren. I think we produced a lot of devoted fans, hey? Congratulations on your 15 years and may you continue to give us all the great pleasure for many more years to come. Good luck and regards to you all, Mrs Florence Amira. And to Mrs Amira and your mother, Mrs Bennett, here's Natalie to sing one of your favourites, When You Wish Upon A Star. When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are. Anything your heart desires will come true to you. If your heart is in your dream, no request is too extreme. When you wish upon a star, as dreamers do. Page is kind, she brings to those who love. The sweet fall, now the dawn, our secret night. When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are. Anything your heart desires will come to you. Page is kind, she brings to those who love. The sweet fall, now the dawn, our secret night. Like a bolt out of the blue, fate stands and now sees you through. When you wish upon a star, your dream comes true. Well, well, well, Moja, what have you done? I killed the wrong brother, that's what I done. Barry Crayton plays twins, one's out to get the other with a get-rich-quick trick that can't miss, until Gordon Chater fouls up foul play. So who has the last laugh? You will, at corpse. The comedy thriller that's not so much a whodunit, but a whodunit to whom? Appearing in Townsville at the Civic Theatre from May 20th until the 24th, special matinee on the 24th, bookings are now open. I'm a very happy dog, cause I've a special owner who does special things for me. Like finding out about my dog. She knows I'm fussy, and appreciate the best. My dog is all meat, and prepared just the way I like it. So good, it's guaranteed to please. I love her for it, like she loves me. My dog, guaranteed to tempt fussy eaters. Freeze baby, freeze baby, freeze baby, freeze baby. Freeze baby, freeze baby, freeze baby. This is such a crazy show I can't believe. There's a mum down the front here, she's been giggling her head off all the time. You've got one of your kids up here as well, have you? Stay here, Charles. Excuse me, Charles. Charles, you come on back. Don't be nervous, it's all right. There's only three million people out there looking at you. Because it's a space show tonight, a very special night, we invited all the audience to come in dressed up. Perhaps we could play a little bit of playoff music while we have a little look at all these wonderful creations here. Did you all do it with your mums and dads, did you? You look just terrific. Little bit of playoff music there, Sammy, and they can dance. Here we go. Dance, everybody. Well, Power, thank you very much to the mums and dads and all the kids for getting dressed up. It's a lot of fun. And here's a number that's also fun and it's also about dressing up. It's called The Goonies Aren't Good Enough, and here comes Katie Van Reeve. Give it up for her. Yeah.
