This is South Africa. Some months and thousands of miles away from Sydney and excitement and the excitement and the excitement of the 2000 Olympic Games. Hi, I'm Neil Low. I'm very happy to be a member of the South African team that represents South Africa at the 100-meter and 200-meter sprint. But more important to me is that I represent my personal friend Jesus. Not only on the ashen track, but also in the race of life, that we all run. The Paralympic Games are often seen as the peak of human triumph, of courage and endurance. The place where dreams are made and hopes are shattered. And yet the question arises, who are we in all this, winner or loser? To help you find the answer to this question, Inspirational Films shows you a special edition of the remarkable film about an absolute winner named Jesus. But before we start, we want to hear the story of three athletes who found out that you don't necessarily win the race of life by crossing the finish line first. I'm a winner. I'm a winner. Whatever. I know it. TK Danelli knows who he is. Despite the fact that he did not make it to the American selection for the wheelchair basketball team, he was convinced that he was a winner. But we don't want to go too fast here, but look at his origin, a dusty area after a hard drought in Kenya. My mother had come into the mission compound to get food or medicine. I don't know exactly. At that time I probably had contracted polio. She was unsure of what she would make of me. And I assumed that she wanted to leave me on the mission site for the best. When it was evening and everyone had gone home, the missionaries discovered me on the site. I assume they saw me and thought someone had forgotten his child there. So I lost both parents, my biological parents, but God gave me something else, a new parent pair. Of course, it was difficult at the beginning because I had to learn new things about these parents, new people, a new environment. But in all of this I recognized God's guidance. In one summer I was working for a missionary whose family name was Thomas, and I still call him Mr. Thomas. On this special day he asked me during the lunch break, have you accepted Jesus into your life? My first reaction was no, to say no. My parents had gone to church all their lives and I was a good person. So I denied the question. He said, what are you waiting for? I answered, well, I guess it's the right time. He said, and I guess it's the right time now. At that moment, right then, I felt something heavy in my heart and I knew that the Holy Spirit was already in me. When I sat there and looked at him, talked to him, he recognized that the Holy Spirit was on the work. Tears ran down my face, my heart felt very heavy and that showed me what I should wait for, why not now? TK's adoptive father had always ensured that if he believed in Jesus, all his needs would be met. A advice that accompanied him even after his father's death in June 1996. This belief in Jesus was something that made him grow, also during the hard-fought career in wheelchair basketball, from the first days until the time when he was selected three times to be an All-American basketball player. Because of basketball, I've been able to go to different places around the world to share the Word of God. That's a wonderful thing. There's so many places in the world where people haven't heard anything about Jesus Christ yet. But through my skills in basketball, I've been able to go there and talk about God. I pray for you that you will have the chance to watch the Jesus film, that you really look at it, not just let yourself be entertained, but to watch how Jesus lived. He was such an impressive, awesome great example. And look at the effect he had on people. And my prayers to you is to know him and let yourself be entirely on him. Because now is the right time to do it. Like I said, why should you wait? Why not now? Jean Driscoll has gradually overcome all restrictions and removed them. She was born with a spine with a spine cord. And I didn't think it was acceptable. I hated my body. When I walked, I had to take a break. My back and my hips got tired quickly. It got worse when Jean had a bicycle accident in high school, when her hips were dislocated. After five failed surgeries, the doctors said to her, she would need a wheelchair in the future to move on. I was devastated. I didn't know what my future would look like. A wheelchair is something that those other people didn't deserve. Sometimes I gave up any hope and was totally frustrated. Especially when Jean was completely exhausted, she took the invitation of a friend to join a wheelchair soccer team. Rolls were popping and cracking, and some people were flying and some people fell out of their chairs, others not. It was very embarrassing. But a new world began to open up to me. It didn't take long and Jean made great progress, which surprised everyone. She was again nominated by the University of Illinois for basketball, soon after that also for wheelchair races. After Jean had trained hard, she started the Chicago Marathon and came across the finish line in a top time, which she then qualified for the Boston Marathon. At mile 20, exactly behind the famous hill of Heartbreak Hill in Boston, Jean was looking at her wheel computer. I started calculating and realized that I was below the world record speed. I checked that at mile 23, then again at mile 26. It ended with me winning my first Boston Marathon and breaking the world record in seven minutes. Jean Driscoll won the Boston Marathon seven times in a row. The first five times she broke world records. But in 1997, when she wanted to take the curve at the foot of the hill in her eighth race, she met fate. When I came across the finish line as second, I threw my arms up in celebration and thanked God that I remained unharmed. I had a few scratches on my elbow, but my wheelchair was still in good shape and that's how I was able to finish the race. The following year, Jean resumed training to work on her eighth win. She was able to keep her rivals in check for 45 kilometers. Only in the last three meters before the finish line did she lose the fight for first place. Jean was destroyed on the ground. And as I thought back on that race in the following days and weeks and prayed over it, I realized that God had asked us to finish the race, but that we didn't necessarily have to reach first place. It was such an amazing realization when that was clear to me. I found it extremely difficult to miss a victory so close, but now I knew that God still saw me in a very positive light and also used me. That was really a great experience. Neil Low is another athlete who came to win. But there was a time when he thought he had lost everything. We had a vacation in Swartfleet in the southern part of the Cape of South Africa and on December 26, 1984 we drove a catamaran down a dirt road along the lake when the mast touched the high-voltage lines. 11,000 volts shot through our bodies. We were shocked unconsciously and medically it's a miracle that we survived that accident. Although we had to undergo several operations and amputations, we haven't had serious internal injuries or internal injuries that could have been the case. It was a very difficult time. I experienced pain, discomfort, frustration. I didn't know what I would have been capable of. Would I ever be able to compete in sport again? Would I ever be able to live a normal life? How am I carrying on friends? How would my family and friends react to me? And I had to undergo several months of rehabilitation, which also required a lot. Well, the three of us in the hospital had more or less the same experiences and fears. During that time in the hospital, I became increasingly aware that nothing could separate me from God's love. It was as though He was there all the time. I experienced His presence, His comfort, His care, His care for me, His care for my situation for the person. I don't want to say it was an easy time. No, it was not. God turned my spiritual understanding around, but He strengthened me, made me rich and enabled me to deal with this situation and to be victorious in it. Right after the accident, I didn't know why it had happened to me. But looking back now, I realize that God has specific plan and purpose for my life. And He enabled me to sit here today and to tell you who Jesus actually really is. Look at the film. Be open and experience Jesus as He moved between all the people and showed them His compassion, because they meant so much to Him and He loved them dearly. He is the same Jesus who still loves you today. You will also feel the tenderness of His touch, the kindness of His laughter, the light in His eyes, the truthfulness of His existence, the enthusiasm and joy that He reveals in people. Listen, think about it and keep the message well in your heart. I am convinced that it will change your life as well. Look at the film now. It is true events, played according to the story of Luke in the Bible. Find out how Jesus entered into the race of life for you and for me and won it. He carried the eternal victory for all of us. Because God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son so that everyone who believes in Him does not go to the ground, but has eternal life. Because God did not send His Son into the world so that He could rule the world, but so that the world is saved by Him. I have decided to follow everyone carefully, to write it up for you, high-respected Theophilus, one after another. So you can be convinced of the reliability of life. During the time of the Roman emperor Caesar Augustus and Herod, king of Judea, the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city called Nazareth to a virgin. And the name of the virgin was Maria. Do not fear, Maria, for you have found grace with God. You will receive a child, a son. You should give him the name Jesus. I am a virgin. How is that supposed to happen? The Holy Spirit will come over you, that is why the child will be called holy, and the Son of God, His rule, will have no end. Maria was going to a city in Judea to visit her relative Elizabeth, who was also miraculously pregnant with a son. Elizabeth! Maria! My dear Maria! Blessed are you more than all the others among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. As soon as I was born, the child was born in my womb. My soul is praised by the Lord, and my spirit is praised by God, my mother. From now on, all the children of the family praise me. Listen, inhabitants of Nazareth, that an account will be carried out on the command of Emperor Augustus in the provinces of Galilee and Judea. All inhabitants have to enter the tax lists immediately. Everyone in his birthplace. And Maria went to Bethlehem in Judea to get married to Joseph. But there was no place for her in Bethlehem. They found only a simple stable as a shelter. In that area, herds were grazing on the open field and kept watch at their herd. Then the angel of the Lord came to them, and the shine of the Lord shone on them. Today in the city of David, the Savior was born to you. Christ the Lord. The herds hurried to see the newborn child in the crib, and were the first to speak of the good news, or of the Gospel about the mother and the birth of the Savior. When eight days had passed and the child was to be cut, they gave him the name Jesus. And Joseph and Maria brought the child to Jerusalem to weep in the Lord. And when they had done all that the law of the Lord had prescribed, they left Jerusalem and returned to Nazareth. When Jesus had become twelve years old, Joseph and Maria took him to the Passover to Jerusalem. But the young Jesus stayed in Jerusalem without his parents noticing. They returned to Jerusalem and searched for him there. After three days they found him in the temple. He sat in the middle of the teachers, listened to them and asked questions. What kind of child is that that asks such questions? He comes from Nazareth. We thought he was with us. Forgive him his jealousy. All who heard him were amazed. Child, how could you do this to us? Your father and I were looking for you in fear. Why did you look for me? Did you not know that I had to be in what my father was? Then he returned with them to Nazareth and accepted his wisdom. And he found pleasure in God and in people. It was in the fifteenth year of the reign of the emperor Tiberius. Pontius Pilate was the mayor of Judea and Herod the ruler over Galilee. High priests were Hannes and Caiaphas. He went to the desert and took the word of God from John. He went to the area of Jordan and announced that there would be a return and a baptism to forgive sins. Turn away from sin and let yourself be baptized. God will forgive your sins. Just as it is in the book of the prophet Isaiah. A voice calls in the desert, prepares the way for the Lord. Give him the streets. Every gorge shall be filled. Every hill and hill shall be lowered. What is round shall be straight. What is uneven shall be leveled. And all men shall see the healing that comes from God. Tell us, are you Christ? Yes, tell us, are you Christ? I only bathe you with water. But there will come one who is much stronger than me. I am not worthy to tie up the shoelaces. He will bathe you with the Holy Spirit with fire. He will hold the shovel in his hand to separate the sprouting from the wheat and bring the wheat into his barn. And the Holy Spirit came visible in the shape of a dove on Jesus' hair. And a voice from heaven said, You are my beloved son. I have found my place in you. And he came to Nazareth where he grew up. I greet you. Peace be with you. And with you. Will your God carry me, Simon? Why not? He wants to leave us. Speak to us, speak to us, Jesus, speak to us. Two men went up to the temple to pray. One was a Pharisee and the other a Zonzi. The Pharisee said to himself this prayer. God, I thank you that I am not like the others, the robbers, the cheaters, the adulterers. I thank you that I am not like that Zonzi there. I fasted twice a week and gave you the tenth of my entire income. But the Zonzi stayed right behind and did not even like to raise his eyes to heaven, but hit his chest and said, God, be merciful to me, poor sinner. I tell you, the Zonzi returned as a righteous man back home, not the Pharisee. For the one who raises himself will be lowered. But whoever lowers himself will be raised. Go further out into the deep water. There, throw your nets to catch us. Master, we worked all night and caught nothing. But if you say so, then I'll throw it out. Jacobus, John. Jacobus, John. Jacobus, John, John. Jacobus, John, come here with your boat and help us quickly. That won't be possible, we have too many our hands. Go away from me, O Lord. I have sinned a lot. Do not fear. From now on you will catch people. There he is. I see him. Look, he is coming through the gate. Jesus, Jesus. I beg you, save my only daughter. Pearl has pity. She is only twelve years old and sick. Please come with me. Jesus. Yes, Iris, I'm sorry. Come with me. Jesus. Your daughter is dead. Do not bother the master any longer. Do not fear. I believe only, then she will be saved. You do not need to cry. She is not dead. She is just sleeping. My Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Judas, the son of Jacob, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor. Bless you, O poor ones, for you belong to the kingdom of God. Bless those who are hungry now, for you will be fed. Bless those who are crying now, for you will laugh. Bless those who hate you and exclude you from their community, who curse you for the son of man. Rejoice on that day and cry. Your reward in heaven will be great, because just as their fathers did with the prophets. But I tell you who you listen to me, love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who mistreat you. Those who beat you on the cheek, hold on to the other cheek. And those who take away your coat, leave the shirt. Give to everyone who begs you. And if someone takes something away from you, do not ask for it back. What you expect from others, do them too. If you love only those who are loved by you, what thanks do you expect for it? Even the sinners love those who are loved by them. And if you do only good to those who do good to you, what thanks do you expect for it? Even the sinners do that. How can he touch them? How can he talk to them? Disgusting! No. Love your enemies. Do good things where you can and suffer where you hope for nothing. Your reward will be great. And you will be sons of the Most High. For he is good against the ungrateful and evil. Be merciful, as your father is merciful. Save us, Jesus. Do not judge, then you will not be judged. Do not condemn, then you will not be condemned. Forgive, so you will be forgiven. Lead us on your way, O Lord. I want to meet this man. Could he be the Messiah? Jesus went into the house of a Pharisee who had invited him to dinner and went to the table. Now go, children, it is time for you. If you have not heard, go. You must not let the children go through too much. What does she want here? I do not know. What is she doing there? If he really were a prophet, he would have known what kind of woman he was talking about. Who knew that this woman was a sinner? I know who this woman is, Simon. I want to tell you something. A moneylender had two debtors. One owed him 500 dinars, the other 50. When both could not pay, he left the debt to both. Which of them would love him more? The one who left the debt to the rich. You are right. Do you see this woman? I came into your house and you did not give me water to wash my feet. She soaked my feet with her tears and dried them with her hair. You did not kiss me when you greeted me. She kissed my feet since I came here. You did not shave my hair. She shaved my feet with fragrant oil. That is why I tell you, because she showed me so much love, her sins are forgiven. But the one who is forgiven little, shows little love. Your sins are forgotten. Your faith has helped you. Go in peace. I will go in peace. Master? Master? Johannes sends us to ask, are you the one who should come, or do we have to wait for another? I am Johannes, what you have seen and heard. The blind can see, the lame can walk again. It is sad who does not take any offense in me. On my shoulders. Can you see him now? Now I see him. A sailor went to the field to see. A part of the grain fell on the way and was broken. The birds of heaven ate it. A few fell on rocky ground. When the seed grew, it withered because it lacked moisture. Others fell into the thorns. The thorns grew together with the seed. They stung. A few grains fell on good soil. The plants grew and bore fruit. A harvest hundredfold. Master, why do you always speak of the amount in equal parts? You are given the secrets of the kingdom of God to recognize. But to the other people only in equal parts are spoken. For they should see and not see, hear and not understand. I will explain to you the same. The seed is the word of God. On the way the seed fell on those who hear, but the devil tears the word out of the heart, so that they do not believe and are not saved. On the rocks the seed fell on those who take the word and hear it happily. But they have no roots. They only believe for a time. But during the exam they become deaf. Under the thorns the seed fell on those who hear the word, but in the worries, riches and pleasures of this life, they stung and went away, so their fruit does not ripen. And on good soil the seed fell on those who hear the word with good and righteous hearts and hold on to it until it brings fruit. One day Jesus went with his disciples into a boat and said to them, We want to go to the other shore of the sea. But on the way they fell asleep. Oh God, milky! Help us, Master! Jesus, we will go to the other shore. The water is splashing into the boat. We will drown. Help us, Master! The storm has subsided. A miracle! The water is splashing into the boat. We are saved. Jesus saved us. Where is your faith? And they went into the area of Geraza, which is opposite the Galilee shore. Jesus, son of the highest God, what do you want from me? I beg you, do not torment me. What is your name? Legion! Legion, I beg you, do not send us to hell. Let us go to the earth of pigs. Stop! The demons left the people and went into the pigs. Go away from here! You sorcerer, leave us! Go away from this place! Leave us! Go away from here! I follow you wherever you go. Let me, let me come with you. Take a break and tell me what God has done for you. Master, send the people away, so that they can go to the surrounding villages and villages and get accommodation and something to eat. This is a remote place. Give them something to eat. Blessed be you, O Lord our God, King of the world, who brings bread from the earth. It is your flower. For whom do the people hold me? Some say you are the angel of God, others say you are Elijah. Others say that one of the prophets from old times would have risen. But you, for whom do you hold me? For the Messiah of God. You should not tell this to anyone. The Son of Man has to suffer a lot and is rejected. They will kill him. But on the third day he will rise. I come with my tears. Does one of you want to follow me? I want to follow you, Lord. But first let me say goodbye to my family. Nobody who has put his hand on the flight and looks back is suitable for the kingdom of God. Who wants to be my younger brother, the one who denies himself, take his cross on himself every day and follow me. Because whoever wants to save his life will lose it. But whoever loses his life for my sake, will save it. What good is it for a person when he wins the whole world, but loses himself? Because whoever is ashamed of me and my teachings, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes back in his glory and the glory of the Father and the Holy Angel. Lord, teach us to pray as John has already taught his disciples to pray. When you pray, speak so, our Father, who art in heaven. Your name shall be healed. Your kingdom shall come. Your will shall happen as it did in heaven on earth. Give us daily the bread that we need and forgive us our sins, because we also forgive everyone who is guilty of us. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Pray, then you will be given. Seek, and you will find. Knock, then you will be opened. For whoever prays, he who receives. Whoever seeks, he who will find. And the door will be opened to everyone who knocks. Good Master, what must I do to win this eternal life? Why do you call me good? No one is good except God. You know the commandments. You shall not break the marriage. You shall not kill. You shall not say wrongly. Honor your father and your mother. I have always followed all these commandments, even from a young age. There is one thing for you to do. All that you have, sell it and give the money to the poor, and you will have a treasure in heaven. Then come and follow me. But we are merchants and rich. How difficult the rich come into the kingdom of God. For he goes through a needle through a needle, as if a rich man had entered the kingdom of God. Who can then be saved? What is impossible for man is possible for God. But he will pass heaven and earth, as if only the smallest letter in the law falls away. I tell you, many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see and did not see. They wanted to hear what you hear and did not hear. What do we have to do? What is written in the law? What do you read there? Love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul, with all your thoughts and with all your strength. And you shall love your neighbor like yourself. You are right. Act after that and you will live. Who is my neighbor? Caesar? Caesar? Caesar? Caesar? A levit came to the place. He saw him and went on. Then a man from Samaria came, who was on the journey. When he saw him, he had pity. He went to him, poured oil and wine on his wounds and bandaged them. Then he picked him up on his horse, brought him to a herbarium and took care of him. The next morning he gave the herbarium two denarii and said he might take care of him. I said, if I come back, I will pay you what you need more for him. Who of these three has been the next to be found who has been attacked? The one who had pity on him. Then act like that. Allow the children to come to me, do not stop them. For such people belong to the kingdom of God. Truly, I tell you, who does not accept the kingdom of God as a small child, will not come in. Who takes this child for my sake, takes me. But who takes me, takes the one who sent me. Who among you is the smallest, is the biggest. Jesus of Nazareth is coming. Jesus! Jesus! Son of David, have mercy on me! Jesus, have mercy on me! Jesus, have mercy on me! Jesus, have mercy on me! Son of David, have mercy on me! What should I do for you? I want to see again, Lord. You should see again. Your believer has helped you. I can see. I can see. I can see. Praise God. My Lord and Master, save me. Oh Lord, save us, save us. Save us, save us. Show us the way, Lord. This is the customs officer. Get down, Zacchaeus, because I have to be your guest today. My guest? Who would want to be a guest with him? Zacchaeus, Jesus. Lord, I want to give half of my wealth to the poor. And if I have cheated on someone, I give him the fourth. Unbelievable, a customs officer who pays back something. That is impossible. Today this house was given to the saints, because this man is also the son of Abraham. The son of man came to seek and save the lost. Listen. We are going to Jerusalem. There will be fulfilled what is written in the prophets about the son of man. He will be delivered to the pagans. They will be spied on and they will be abused and spied on. And they will be chastised and killed. But on the third day he will be resurrected. On the third day he will be resurrected. After this speech Jesus decided to go to Jerusalem. Bring your disciples to the silence, master. I tell you, if you keep quiet, the stones will start to scream. 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22. 35, 36, 37, 38. It is written, my house shall be a house of prayer. But you have made a cave out of it. He is my animal-free. Stop him. Stop him. Stop him. Call the guards. Call the guards. I heard that he is already called king by many. A king? A king of beggars, whores and thieves. We know such as him. They come, preach for a while and leave. They are quickly forgotten. Do not be blind. He wins more followers every day. And the people admire him. And think he is a king. And they think he is a king. And they think he is a king. And they think he is a king. And they think he is a king. Listen carefully, I want to warn you. If this man still threatens peace, I will make you responsible. He may be right. It is time to talk to the Galileo. And the more he is the heuchleric Pharisees and the written attack, the more the schar grows his followers among the Jews. I tell you that this poor widow has given more than all others. Because all of you have only sacrificed something of your excess. But this woman who has hardly anything to live, she has given her whole life. Tell us, with what right do you do all this? Who gave you the authority? I also want to ask you a question. Tell me, was the right of John to be baptized by God or by man? What shall we say? If we say by God, he will say why. Did you not believe him? But if we say by man, then the whole people will be amazed. They are convinced that John was a prophet. We do not know where it came from. Then I will not say with what right I do all this. Then came the day of the unflavored bread, called the Passover. And Jesus sent Peter and John into the city to prepare the Passover. It was my great desire before my suffering to eat the Passover with you. Because I tell you, I will not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God. Blessed be you, O Lord our God, King of the world, who lets fruit grow on the vine. Take the wine and distribute it among each other. Because I tell you, I will not drink from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes. Blessed be you, O Lord our God, King of the world, who brings bread from the earth. This is my body that is given to you. Do this to my memory. This chalice is the new color in my blood that is shed for you. But you, the man who betrays me, sit with me at the table. The son of man must die as God has determined, but will not be betrayed by man. This is not possible. I do not believe it. I do not believe it. In all my trials you have been hard on me. That is why I make the kingdom for you, as my father made it for me. You must eat and drink with me at my table in my kingdom. And you must sit on thrones and pray to the twelve tribes of Israel. There is no traitor. Simon, Simon, look. Satan has asked you to check all of you. To separate the good from the bad. As the farmer separates the wheat from the wheat. But I have prayed for you that your faith does not falter. And when you have returned, strengthen your brothers. Lord, I am ready to go to prison with you. Or to die. I tell you, Peter, before the lamb today you will have three times denied that you know me. The high wheel gathered and sought a way to eliminate Jesus. But Satan took possession of Judas, Iscariot, who belonged to the twelve. Pray that you do not fall into temptation. The temptation has arrived. Father, if you want, take this church from me. But not mine, but yours shall happen. Then an angel appeared to him from heaven and gave him new strength. And he prayed in his fear even more intimately and his sweat was like blood that dripped on the earth. How can you sleep? Stand up and pray that you do not fall into temptation. Judas. With a kiss you betray the Son of Man. Gentlemen, shall we hit with the sword? Quick, take him. Stop it. Like against a robber you have been drawn with swords and spears. Day after day I was with you in the temple and you did not try to catch me. But this is your hour, because darkness has the power now. Come quickly, we must go. Take him. Take him. Watch him. Here, this is the coat of arms of a king. Tell us what will happen to you. Will you save us, great king? Will you save us? What does he want to save us? He was also with Jesus. I do not know the man. Your humble servant. How do you like to see someone like that? You are also one of them. No, man, I am not. He was also with Jesus. He is also a Galileo. Go away. What are you talking about? I do not know what you are talking about. Lord, we implore you to act in accordance with the law of your power. You who disobeyed our ancestors when they repented against your command. Who hit you? Who will hit you now? Stop. Stop, I said. Bring him to the high wheel. Forward. Ha ha ha. Say, are you the Messiah? Even if I tell you, you do not believe me. And if I ask you something, you do not answer me. But from now on the Son of Man will be the judge of the Almighty God. So you are the Son of God? You say it. I am it. We heard it from his own mouth. We bring him to Pilate. And Jesus was led to Pontius Pilate, one of the most cruel of all Roman city-keepers, on whose command thousands were crucified. What do you want from me at this early hour? We know that this man is deceiving our people. He has not caused any uproar on the market. What punishment should he be given? I see no reason to judge this man, none at all. We found him guilty. He denies the people to pay the emperor's taxes and claims he is the Messiah and king. A king? Say, are you the king of the Jews? You say it. He began in Galilee and now he has come here. In Galilee? Is this man a Galilee? Then he should take Perot as the subject. He is still in Jerusalem. Bring him to Herod. He tried to uproar the people. He calls himself king. This man is a king? He is a king. He is a king. He is a king. He is a king. This man is a king? My king. Lock him up. Bring him back to Pilate. This is his province. This man has done nothing that deserves death. So I will let him be in the And then release him. At this party you must deliver us a prisoner, Pontius Pilate. Deliver us Barabbas. And this man shall be stoned. Deliver us Barabbas. Cross him! You and you, bring him back. No mercy! No mercy! This is Pilate! This is Pilate! This is Pilate! Pilate! We want him back! We want him back! He has done nothing! He has done nothing! Take him out! He has done nothing! He has done nothing! He has done nothing! You and you, bring him back to Pilate! You! What's your name? Simon from Cyrene, sir. Take the cross. Cut the rope. Where's the rope? Push on. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. Back. get some beer! But don't worry. Come on, come on! Come on, come on! Put the bolt in. Put the rope down. Put the rope down. Give them to your father. They don't know what they're doing. He helped others. Now he should help himself. Yes, save yourself! You are the Messiah! Put the rope down. Help yourself if you are the king of the Jews. Come on, come on! Are you not the Messiah? Help yourself and us. Not even you fear God? You have the same judgment. You have been hit, but he has done nothing wrong. Beg me, Jesus, when you come to your kingdom. I promise you, that you will be in paradise today with me. It was about six o'clock when darkness broke through the whole country. And it lasted until nine o'clock. The temple is in the middle of the forest. Father, I put my spirit in your hands. Praise be to God, he was a righteous man. Joseph of Arimathea, a righteous member of the high council, who gave the things that others did to him. He received permission from Pontius Pilate, before the Sabbath, to put the body of Jesus in a rock grave. Come on, come on. Forgive us, we give the body to our Lord. All are welcome, but come, the Sabbath is coming. God, we want You. On Sunday morning, the women went to the grave with the fragrant salves they had prepared. They found that the stone had been removed from the grave. They went in, but they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. What are you looking for in the dead? He is not here. He has risen. Do you remember what he said to you when he was in Galilee? When he was in Galilee, the Son of Man had to be delivered and crucified and risen on the third day. The stone had been removed from the grave. They went in, but the body of the Lord was gone. Two men were there. They were shining like the sun. They said to us, what are you looking for in the dead? It is true. Please believe us. Please believe us. We saw you. Go and see. The grave was empty. The Lord was gone. Peter, you must believe us. The Lord has risen. He has risen to Simon. We did not recognize him. We did not recognize him on the way, but when he broke the bread, we recognized him. How strange that he was there. Peace be with you. Why are you so disturbed? Why do you have such doubts in your hearts? Look. My hands and my feet. And look, I am myself. Touch me and understand. As you see it with me, no spirit has flesh and bones. These are the words I told you when I was with you. Everything must be fulfilled, as it is written in the law of Moses with the prophets and in which Simon wrote about me. The Messiah will suffer and will be resurrected on the third day of the dead. And in his name will be proclaimed to all peoples that they shall turn away, so that their sins will be forgiven. You are witnesses for this, and I want to send you the gift that my father has promised, but stay in the city until you are fulfilled with the power of the highest. Lord, bless and protect you. I have been given all power in heaven and on earth. So go to all peoples and make all people my children. Submit them to the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. And teach them to follow everything that I have given you. Be sure, I am with you, every day until the end of the world. Amen. Hi, my name is Joni Erickson-Tarder, and I am sure that the Jesus film has told you that this extraordinary story of Jesus Christ, who was 100% God and 100% human, who came to this world to free us. You can get to know this Jesus in a warm and personal way, not as a religious or moral apostle, who left us only useful advice. We are not talking about a theological principle or a theory. The talk is not about an unfeeling icon. We are talking about Jesus, the living Son of God. He is the Lord of all, who desires very much to live in your heart, to sit on the throne of your life, to give you peace, power and a new perspective. He allows you to escape the eternal damnation and to have an eternal home with God. This Jesus Christ wants to have a personal relationship with you and wishes that you also get to know him. How do you do that? You take the first step by tying all your pride together, all sin, all selfishness, all your self-reliance, call it what you want. You tie it all up together in a bundle. Then you lay it at the cross where he died. He died for you, for your father's wrath, for the sin that you might have. He doesn't desire that anyone will die. He wants to give you eternal life. So, one little bit of that sand and put it at the foot of the cross. Then suddenly pray a prayer in the silence, if you wish. Something like, Lord Jesus Christ, I come to you. I lay my sin at the foot of the cross. Please, come into my life and sit on the throne of my heart. And then, Lord Jesus, give me your spirit. He shall live in me and so you can give me the full power to lead my life in such a way that you and your father will like it. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for the difference that you will make. Amen. Well, if you prayed that prayer with me, you have begun the most extraordinary, most exciting and most wonderful adventure of your life. And it's just the beginning. There's much to learn about this new life in Jesus Christ, after you have accepted him as your Lord and Redeemer. You'll learn more and want to learn more. You'll want to get into his Word, the Bible. You'll want to learn how to pray and his communicating with him. We'd like to share this information with you, so would you be entitled to the address? That's what you should be called by the number, whatever my friends have put in here, as much as. Whatever it is, contact these dear friends. They say a percentage of the materials that you need to enter into the walk with Christ. Also, I would be very happy to hear from you personally, if you enjoyed the Jesus film. And if you want to tell me about it, I would like to pray for you. You can contact me on the Internet at joniandfriends.org. Now, see this painting here? I did this with the stencils here, holding them tight in my teeth. And I have a testament to tell you about how I came to the place, where I gave Christ my life, even though my arms and legs are lame and I'm a quadriplegic sitting in a wheelchair. I'm a mouth artist and a very happy person. It doesn't happen overnight. And so I hope that you'll stay tuned and watch next to the film, the next film movie. The story about a young woman, that's me, who is a poor, allergic, and how she struggles up through suicidal despair, through a lot of depression, to the place where she, you, is on her journey of faith. This film is based on facts. Johnny Erickson, who is lame because of an accident, experiences everything in this moving story once again personally, because she is the main actress. Come on, Tumbo. Right. Yes. Come. Good girl. So, I'll take the saddle off you, then you'll get a strong rub. Summer 1967. I'm going to be lost. Watch. Ouch. Johnny, watch out, there are crabs. Watch. Watch. Watch. Watch. Kathy. Yes, Johnny, what's the matter? My nose is itching. Probably sand came in. Please report you there during the recording. I'll be right back. If I can breathe properly again, everything will be fine. This blind feeling, hopefully I'll get over it soon. When diving? It was really too stupid of me. Something like that makes 70 percent of our work. So you're nothing special. Tell me when you feel something. Yes, good. Oh, excuse me, please. Do you know, my daughter is here. Can I go home tonight? Joanne, I can't tell you that yet. My name is not Joanne, my name is Johnny. My father really wanted to have a boy. If this crab hadn't bitten me, I wouldn't have turned around. And it would have been too late. Oh, there's John. Daddy, you have to sign your form. Yes, so she can be operated on. Yes, yes, good. Where is a doctor? Your blind feeling is caused by a fracture somewhere in the spine. I'm trying to reduce the pressure on the back. By a surgical intervention. Hey, what are you doing? Don't do it, let my hair down. Please don't. Please don't. I'll stop talking nonsense if you don't want to get in trouble with my father. You have to be quiet. Johnny, please. Stop it. Please, please, I'm sorry. I'm sorry, but I'm afraid of you. Please stop it. Calm down. The Lord is my shepherd. He will not harm me. How do you feel? Oh, very well. Very well. Can't wait to get it. Dick Philbert. Immediately. Hey, Dick, phone. Come on. Dick Philbert. Yes, hello, Jay. You and Johnny, you had plans for your future. Jay, what happened? What happened? You're the Erickson family, aren't you? I'm Dr. Scherl. Your daughter has a fracture in the spine. And that's what broke her nerve. In other words, she broke her neck. Is she dying? The crisis will last about four days. And then... So she doesn't get hurt. Two hours on the back, two hours on the stomach. Probably a nightmare. It's not to be tolerated. Sister. I'm going. Yes, please, Johnny, what is it? This terrible silence, it's awful. It's not good for anyone. We'll have that soon, Johnny. We need rest. Where am I? Johnny! Johnny! Johnny! Does anyone here have any idea what's going on? Good day. I'll see you in a minute. Intensive care unit, Sister Pauline Jensen. Oh, yes, Dr. Thompson. Let's see, 100 milligrams. Oh, yes. Yes. E, M, E, Q. Every three or four hours against the pain. Yes, it's okay. Pauline, you have to help me with Mrs. Wallace. Yes, I will. Well, Helen? You're dying here, Dickie. Come on. Give Johnny a kiss. Wonderful. His skin is so soft. He pinched me. I assume you're used to stupid questions. And how? Well, I broke my neck, so I should be dead. Why am I still alive? You've survived four weeks now. I would say the crisis is long gone. You're a very important member of humanity. I'll be operating on you soon. So that the bones in your neck will grow back together. And then nothing will come out of this tooth. Mom, did you know that? No. What do you think of a single room? With a window? At least it gives a little color. I couldn't see this eternal white shoe anymore. Where should I hang the tumbleweed? Ta-da! Oh, is she horny? Is she allowed to eat that? Of course, Mom, she's allowed to. I'll be right back. And John, the doctor promised us to come down as soon as Johnny... ...comes to his senses. Excuse me, is Dr. Cheryl back from the operation? I can't tell you that, sir. Dr. Cheryl? Everything's fine, Mr. Erickson. I'm just coming down. It went well. When I was young, I was an active ring fighter. I was in the Olympic Games in 1932. You know, there's a fraction of a second in every fight. When you pressure your opponent, you have the feeling that... ...all of a sudden the power of the opponent will be transferred to you. And in that moment you're like a storm. You feel invincible. I suppose, Dr., there are moments in your fight... ...where you feel that you're going to win. Yes, sometimes it's like that. Please, Dr., tell me honestly. Did you win this fight for Johnny? You said that maybe... Do you think it's a success? The doctor says the operation went well. You'll bring Johnny down as soon as he wakes up. Would you be interested in taking over the decoration of the other room? Such a work only works once. After all, we know why we're working. John. Your daughter will need a lot of help. The most difficult part of this problem is the psychological aspect. But you said the operation was successful. The doctor says so. Johnny will... ...will be alive forever. The operation couldn't do any miracles. But we hope that after some time, she'll be able to use her hands again. Oh, there she comes. For she is a Johnny Goodfellow. For she is a Johnny Goodfellow. For she is a Johnny Goodfellow. Which nobody can deny. Happy Birthday. Is that my birthday? Happy Birthday. I think we should eat our dinner here. Then we have to carry the whole table. The kitchen is enough. I want to eat in the dining room. The selection is not overwhelming. What is it? Broccoli or spinach? Eww. My goodness, I can't be a fool. What is this? You stupid goat. Can't you be careful? Her nerves are over-reacted. That's all. Looks like she's doing better. At least it's a good sign. Close the door. Please. Eddie, I can't bear you to sit on the floor and watch me. I've been lying on the floor so many times in my life. You can't just lie down. You were always the winner. You are and you will always be. I brought you something. Until you can move your head again. I can see the whole room in there. Tell me, do I have to stay in this position for very long? Dad, please tell me the truth. It would help me a lot if I knew it. Johnny, the doctor says your condition will remain in the essential. You can't dance anymore. Daddy, I'll be healthy again. I don't understand why you're so worried. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Could it really be your will? I lived the way you expected from us Christians. Lord, I have repented. Would you let me do this? It's crazy to try to talk to you. You're just as unreachable as the apparatus in this room. It's stupid to think you're looking down on us. You're just as unreachable as us. You have to help me, Diana. You're my best friend. Of course. And how? We both have to die at some point. One sooner, the other later. I want it to be quick. Give me something. Give me some pills. What's the point of this? I'm almost dead. What's the point? Don't talk nonsense. I can't move. I'd do it myself. If you really love me, give me something. Cut my pulse. Don't hurt me. I don't feel any pain. Please do. No one will know. I can't do that. Then I'll try it myself. Please don't. It's a sin. Sin? I don't care if it's a sin. I don't care. I don't want to live anymore. I don't want to. We're trying to get you to the rehabilitation center. You want to get rid of me? They can do more than I can. They specialize in motor defects. You have feelings in your shoulders, upper arm and chest. Maybe it's possible to train other muscles in the back and shoulders... to replace the muscles that don't work anymore. So I get my hands back? The tests show that the muscles are at 50% functional, especially the biceps. And the biceps are part of the muscles... that are very much involved in the movement of the upper arm. You'll only realize it if you try. That's a mess. What time is it? 10 to 8. How are you? Why are you only coming now? I'm not going any faster. Almost all the cars in Hilton were driving in different directions. I needed five different cars to get here. What's the big deal? Just a little change of scenery. The night nurse will be here soon. She's going crazy. Don't worry about it. No. I had terrible nightmares all the time. I dreamed you'd leave me because of Ginny North. Ginny North? Tell me you love me. Tell me you'll never leave me. Never. I love you. Love you. Love you. And I'll never leave you. What's the big deal? Am I a toy machine? You're just using me. I'd never even think that. You can move your head more than usual. Great. I have to practice every day. It's hell. I can only survive if you help me. Dick, I'll die if you leave me. I know exactly. Listen, Lady MacBeth. Don't start this dark self-talk. I can only tell you... I love you. And I'll never leave you. Never. It could be that you're moving me somewhere else. To a rehabilitation center. Yes? When? I don't know. You decide everything. That means you're making progress. Oh, wait. Please. Be careful, Joanie. You could get infected. So many colors. That hurts my eyes. There's nothing reasonable about 8.8. They're only reducing repetitions. I heard there was unrest in New York. The president even deployed air force troops. You think there could be such unrest in Baltimore? All I know is that the president is in a state of panic. He's not going to be able to do anything. I'm sorry. I have to get used to talking while eating. Don't worry. We have 400 doctors here. Oh. Hey, great. 10 degrees. That's great for the first time. Could you take my glasses after work? I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Could you take a look at my car after work? Again? These foreign models are really crap. Yes, but very nice. Wait. Please don't listen. I can't stand it. I have a feeling it's a short-term illness. But gradually the brain will be normal again. You can sit back until the harvest festival. I could bet on that. No betting. That's unfortunate. Wow. There's no highway here. Are there people who can get out of here? Oh, sure. We'll get rid of every patient. Yes, you can do it. Go on. Go on. Give it to him. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Can I talk to you? Sure. Where's Woodlawn? Outside of Baltimore. Oh, from the area in front of you. You must have been something special at high school. You have a Yes, I was curious. Where did you go to school? Western High School. Everything is solid concrete. The only grass in the area of Marijuana. I played for two years. Then I had enough. You and I, we have the same room. And do you have... And do you have... You wouldn't have a tumor in your back. You don't know exactly. In this crazy factory, it's only if your illness is a little mysterious. I mean... The orphanage is for everything. And you, do you make progress? I don't know. Maybe. You can be glad you have Barbara. She doesn't talk nonsense. You can reach the goals you set. Bravo! And now back! Please, that could be a circus. However, there will be too many united! There will be so many united! expired! Maybe you could help. Hopefully you find them remembered. Our school lives next year. Ah! Adrian! Get me Johny, uhm, if you don't want him, Oh, well done. Thank you. I'll bake a cake, okay? That's going to be a celebration. It's snowing. Joni! And so big flakes. Now that Tumbleweed is not being saved, we could let her go. She's not a breeding shed. I'd rather not. I don't want to ruin her figure. She'll get a foal. We'll split the money. These pants are too short. Look at my socks. Maybe you've grown. If this is over, I have big plans with Tumbleweed. How did you manage to keep Mom and Daddy out? Just threats. I told you, if they come in, the surprise is gone. Look here. Merry Christmas. Fantastic. Merry Christmas. That's how it's supposed to be. Especially for you. You'll be out for a few days. Watch out, Jay. It's slippery. We just missed an accident. Your mother is afraid something could happen to you. Mom, I can't break it. I'm already broken. Oh, come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant. Oh, come ye, oh, come ye to Bethlehem. Come and behold Him, born of King of angels. Oh, come, let us adore Him. Oh, come, let us adore Him. Oh, come, let us adore Him. Christ the Lord. Hey, Barbara Walters and Cassius Clay. We're going to need fresh varnishes. Could you please get our beds? This idiot is overlooking it every day. We don't have enough staff for the holidays. But it stinks in here. What about the training? Hey, Earl, what's wrong with her? She's been lying on the ground for a while and she's gotten really sore. Her bones are too tight. But Earl... I'm in a hurry. But Earl, you need to get some rest. I'm not in a hurry. I'm not in a hurry. I'm not in a hurry. I'm not in a hurry. I'm not in a hurry. I'm in a hurry. But Earl, you need to do something about it. Is this the station where people look in and ask, who wants to play baseball with us? And we say, we can't even move our heads properly. And they answer, oh, that's no good. We just need you as reserve players. Meanwhile, Maurice, the mischievous chimpanzee, gets in a jam by getting in a jam. It's completely unnecessary to fool them. Because they won't feel anything anyway. Not the slightest. We'll take a closer look at your hip bones. We'll have to remove a lot of stuff, but then you won't have any trouble with it. What are you waiting for? Maise? Hammer? Cry, darling. You don't have to. I can't cry. There's no one here who could at least clean my nose. I'm here. Yes, but what about tomorrow? If I cry, I might get used to it and then just cry. Okay, John. Maybe you're right. I'm trying to suppress reality. I can't stand the reality with which you have to live. In the last few months, I've been looking back at my previous life. Maybe I'm reacting because my faith has never really been tested. It probably stood still during junior high school. I'm trying to bring faith into harmony with the real world and your pain. Oh, Lord, if I can't die, show me how I should live. Please. Someone's listening. Spring 1968. Hello, Nedich. Do you have a wish? Diana! I felt so lonely. Tell me, why did you steal this sister costume? That's my new costume. Isn't it nice? Don't be silly. This isn't the right place for it. Don't you think it's too stupid that visitors can't come before 2 o'clock? They probably shouldn't bother you at your morning gym. And now that I'm part of the staff, I can be with you all the time, day after day. And what about school? It's just so boring. That's absolutely insane. Why? I can't go to college. I've failed. They asked such stupid questions during the exam and then I don't even know what I want to be. I haven't found a way yet. I've even asked God. But everything is still open. And as long as I can't find anything better, I'm at your disposal, Milady. You have a very personal nose cleaner from now on. Oh, nice. Let me have a look. Hair like a rough hair, toothpaste and... Ugh, a bad breath. Where's the toothpaste? Well, how do you like it? Hello. How's your neck? You know smoking can be deadly. It would be nice. My house is so tight that it's blocked off to my brain. But I love it. Dr. King, the founder of the movement for violence and resistance, was shot in Memphis, Tennessee today. Dr. King came to Memphis on Thursday to support 1,300 local employees who are currently fighting... It looks like the whole world is going crazy. ...fighters for the rights of citizens who have been propagating violence... You could even think you're in a movie. It's a catastrophe of the mind that still deserves despair and hopelessness. Not so tight. Otherwise you might get a cramp in your jaw. I feel like an ABC shooter. What should I learn to write with my mouth? It's nonsense. I know I'll be able to use my hands again soon. Well, if not... That's for sure. I just have to believe in it. It hasn't been working since yesterday. Well, be glad. A free sweat bath. Aren't you used to the heat, honey? I think it's always hot in the jungle. What's all this shit? These are just dustbenders. We're not your servants. I think they've lost their job. Is that possible? Hey, BJ, you have to turn around. Actually, that should have happened before the dinner. I should have let you lie down until tomorrow morning. And not turn around at all. Niggers and hippies, that's all we have. It's written that the bed is turned around twice. Don't worry. You don't feel anything anyway. Annie! I'll report you to the I'll report you to the sister-in-law. BJ's doctors can sue you. From me? If I could do what I wanted, I'd break your bones. What's the matter? Relax. Let's go. They'll report us. We're witnesses. Good night, sweetheart. Oh, thank you. That was a good time. I often dream of leaving. I'm not going to leave. I'm going to take it. I have to train even harder. Dear Mom, dear Dad, how do you like my new script? You want to beat me up, don't you? No, you should draw something on it. That's impossible. Try to draw something. Come on. That won't work. I used to be able to draw quite well. My father is also an artist. But back then I could still use my hands. That talent comes from up there. With some practice you can draw as well with your mouth as with your hands. My skin looks like a rubbed iron. I hope Jay will come back as a stick sooner. She wanted to bring me some cream and make-up. I didn't need that back then. I think I'm getting old. You can have some of my stuff, Johnny. I'll paint you as if you came from a cruise in the Caribbean. Great. That's good. What do I look like? You look almost like those ladies in the Vogue. Ah! Happy Birthday. The elevator has been locked for at least 10 minutes. It's impossible. How long do I have to wait? We don't have to get out of here. Here he comes. Here he comes. Oh, the classes are going to disappear. Woohoo! That was a big piece. Here you go. Not so easy. Did you write that with your mouth? Daddy, I'm not your little girl anymore. You stay my little girl. We have to talk about your future. You'll be released soon. Really? Who says? You know, my darling, you can always stay in town with me and Mom. But Jay wants you to live with her on the farm. Think about it. And do what you like best. He wants them all. He's got to pass Silverman. He's got to pass. So, come here. Okay, take the shirt off. Oh, that's me. If you like it, I'll give it to you. You can take it with you. You've met me really well. That's great. Thank you. It would be a great thing if I could get one of these great jobs from welfare. Always with your passing. I heard one of them won't make it if he's not released. You mean he can come back? No, they can find a way to get you out forever. Hey, look who's here. Oh, the nice lady is here all day. And I thought she only came at night. Here, keep my picture. I'll show it to this vampire in white. Betty, don't wait! You little thing. Oh, I'm so sorry. I could bet you're not sorry. I've been driving for months instead of braking. You bastard, you should be in the jungle swinging from branch to branch. And not driving in a thing like that. I think it's good when something like that happens. You're already in the hospital. Hello, Barbara. I've been feeling my hands again since last night. I woke up from it. I don't like to say goodbye. And so I'll be gone for one morning. Do you have time to talk? It's unbelievable. Nobody asked me if I had time for at least two years. You don't believe how grateful I am to you. For that and for everything else, of course. Without you, I wouldn't be so far. I'm a physiotherapist, Johnny. I specialize in cross-sectional God or a blind fate can't do anything for your situation. You're to blame for that. In school we called it a gunshot, a dive or a motorcycle syndrome. Do I have to ask what that means? You know, I think I have to make myself clear. Many patients who came here before their accident were... athletic, well-trained people who didn't have any danger. I have three patients who are injured on motorcycles. And they have nothing more important to do than to think about when they can finally ride again. Why? What's the point? I have the impression you don't listen at all. Because I have the right to a private life, even in this zoo. Open this door. Johnny. I know you're not crazy. And you see life in a realistic way, but... If you leave and say, I can do anything, is that pure self-deception? Then... Then I've missed my target and everything was for nothing. You'll never be able to use these fingers to comb your hair. Or to paint your lips. Or to drive a car. Never again. But I can't come home like this. Not without my hands. I accepted that I was dependent on the wheelchair for the rest of my life. But without my hands I'm more helpless than a baby. And you said I just had to work hard enough to be able to be restored. I think you just wanted to get rid of me so someone else could get my bed. No, Johnny. Dr. Feynman and Dr. Goldman are asked to report to the headquarters. There's no miracle, is there? I don't think so. We can leave it as it is. The decision is final, okay? Of course. Tumbleweed is so valuable to be carried around in the meadow. I can't see it. Hey, Jay. Yes? Who's out there? Diana sent him. He was looking for a job, Steve. He's supposed to relieve himself. He might have already dealt with the axe. He's supposed to relieve himself. Hey, what's this about? I know you went to school. But this year is not about life. You want to decide what's good for me and what's not? You're not the first to say that. The best friends will be unable to think because of this sentimental nonsense. That's not my problem. Give me the book back. What's bothering you? I'll keep it for you. Please don't. Come back. I'm sorry. No. Oh, God. Oh, God. Good morning, Miss Erickson. Good morning. I'm waiting for your father. We wanted to repair the roof today. Just call me Joanie. Maybe I look old, but I'm not. Of course. Joanie. You read on the roof. This is Isaiah. The Lord's hair will be given new strength. They will rise with wings like eagles. They will run and not be tired. They will walk and not be tired. I find that very poetic. But he meant to move the spiritual. Not on foot. I know. You're doing a good job. Where did Diana get him? I think he preached in her church. He's a biblical speaker. His father is a preacher. Really? In which church? I don't know. Maybe a street preacher. Diana said something about trucks. Trucks? That's fantastic. At a corner of the street. I can imagine. With a tambourine. They preach and distribute pictures of your father. With a whiskey bottle in hand. Where will you stay? We're snob. If I went back to school, he wouldn't be here. Diana said she was a pretty ace in the ring. I didn't notice. I used to beat opponents who were twice as tough as me. I tried it last year in the youth team. But I failed again. Do you want to talk about it? I'm a good listener. I don't know. I paid more attention to the looks than the internal attitude. I could show you tricks. Dear Dick, God has not heard our prayers. I will never be able to use my hands again. I will always be dependent. I will never be the woman you deserve. I want you to be free to make other connections. Hey! How are you? I'm stuck. How did that happen? You look good. Hello. Hello? You have nothing more to say? Why? What do you have to say? We're going back to the jungle. I'm scared. Why? I can't goって Why do you have to be afraid of seeing me? ... Now I want to read your thoughts. The past cannot be You can grow Bouboo it takes every love Quickly call the subway If he wants us to get married, we'll do it. Despite all the difficulties. I thought the same when I was in the wheelchair. But the blows of fate change people. You often see it enough in the movies. Love is forgotten and you stay good friends. My feelings will never change. THE LAST WISH Who is it? It's Dai. Call her and tell her we're here. I don't want to see her. What's wrong with you two? What are you doing? Hello, guys. I think I found the man of my life. Who? Frank Mood. He was sitting on the top of the hill. And? The rider Marriott Horsman made an exit on the weekend and Frank asked me to come along. I've never sat on a horse, except for a pony. It was a school trip in the third grade. I have to be able to ride until the weekend. What are the chances? One, two, three. Well, isn't there a little bit smaller? Don't worry, you'll get used to it. Here. The revenge is sweet. Let him take a step first. Stop! Stop! What do I have to do? You have to sit straight. You know, this ride takes three to four hours. There are great pullovers in the mall. Well, we'll go to the mall first and then we'll go to eat. There's Dad's new bodyguard. In full action. I'm going to the mall. I'm going to the mall. I'm going to the mall. I'm going to the mall. Do you want to impress a girl? What? You're acting like Steve McQueen. I'm in the upper class. I want to cut my sports. I thought it was great at high school. Did you actually do a street show and everyone stood around and looked? Yes. They threw money at us. You'll get a heart attack. Yes, good. You have to pay attention to the wind direction. My life is going so similarly. It's always going up and down. What do you expect from God? That he will raise the law of gravity for you? He promised to protect us. Where was the guardian angel at my head? You can't run away from him. Everyone is connected to him in some way. We just want him to meet our expectations. The great self-driving machine in heaven. But why doesn't he answer any questions? Why doesn't he answer any questions? You have to go against him. I can't do it for you. You and your Bible. Without it you'll get lost. It's all in there. You just have to understand. You came to turn me around, didn't you? I can't save myself from this trouble. What's that? It belongs to Steve. He left it here. You already have three. Important passages are written in this Bible. It's a special message that everyone understands. We don't understand much about God. It's like seeing his image on water or in a mirror. But one day we'll see him in his completeness. I know how strange it sounds to people who don't believe when it's said that Jesus died to save them. God in his wisdom will never understand him with human mind. That's why he gave us his son out of love. He died for us at the cross and he is risen. People ask how new life can be created from death. What kind of body will we have when we rise? If you put a seed in the ground, it has to die so that a new plant can grow out of it. If the new seed sprinkles from the ground, it will be different from the seed that was sown. If seeds and plants are different, our body will have a new form. The bodies of angels in heaven are different from ours. Their form and beauty are very different from ours. But all who become Christians will have the same body as him. That's what I tell you, my brothers. The body of the earth, which is made of flesh and blood, cannot enter his kingdom. Our body is not created for eternal life. The body of the earth, which is made of flesh and blood, cannot enter his kingdom. The body of the earth, which is made of flesh and blood, cannot enter his kingdom. Well, my lord, I don't want to try to create it myself and try to understand everything. What surprises you still have to offer, or maybe none. It's all up to you. And help me not to stand in your way too much. What's going on? Nothing. Shut up and try to sleep. I thank you, my lord, for sending me Steve to meet your word. I will not be in your way. I will not be in your way. I will not be in your way. I will not be in your way. I will not be in your way. I know it was your will. boils down to listening to the music in his ears. spring 1972 Here we are, ladies and gentlemen, come this way. All right gentlemen. You are included, indeed. Oh, my God! Ready, set, go! Please smile. Thank you. And again. Thank you. Now, let's go over there. Wake up, there's a visitor for you. What? Nanu. You don't know that you invited him? What a mess. Good morning. Oh, he's in the living room. You? I hope I'm not too early. What for? You said you could come by any time. In person. I wrote it down. Help. I know we met at Diana's wedding. And I had to laugh about you. But I don't remember your name. Don Bertoli. With two L's. Good. You look great. Coffee? Yes, please. How did you like the walk? Where? Where? I don't care. How are you with Flory? It's part of the exercise to get me in and out of the car. We'll manage. I'm heavy. I'm not like a spring. Have you been to Pimlico? Yes, of course. I'm not in the mood yet. You don't feel anything? No, not in my legs and hands. But in my arms I feel like... You know the feeling when you sleep on your feet. Then I'll help a little. Why can't you get well again? It's not possible. Hi. I have a friend. Hi, Jay. How was it? Fabulous. Leave it. You've gotten much heavier. That's because of the pizza. Is it good? I'll sort my feet. Thank you. It was a very nice day for you. I'm glad you liked it. Thank you. It was a very nice day for me. For me too. Hey, wait! You don't have permission for this street! Come on! Go, go, go! Don't block the road! That's right. Hello. Hello. Hello. I promise. Next time you come to my house, you'll come to me. Okay. How are you? Good. It wasn't very pleasant. Murderous. Okay. Great. It's delicious. Good, right? Come here. Eat. Why is it so much? You know, you could take me for a walk all day. You're not good at being a gallery slave. You think so? We who believe are especially united with Christ as part of a wonderful, constantly growing temple of God. I sat here all afternoon and waited for you. You said at two. Wow! Now stop the air for a moment. There is no reason for that. That's right. My schedule is full. That's the reason. Is there a mouse running over the liver? He's just playing. He's just using you. I don't understand why. It's the environment he comes from. If he wants something, he goes and gets it. Give me some coffee. I'll go. I'll go. I'll go. Give me some coffee. I thought you'd be done with Dick. Done? I'm not a nun. What's the matter, Joni? A real relationship is more important. Not just the body. You know that. I'm just trying to make you realize that you're hurting yourself. I think the leaves are wet enough. Could you please take them out? He's strong. I can see the problem. And then she'll see. Joni. The feelings are just a noise. Words are easy to say. Dick promised everything. I'll get you out of my present situation one day. I'm sorry. It's you. Hey! I bet she's pregnant. Look at the extra mail. It's like Christmas just before the gift. She won the first prize. I can't believe it. Did you say I painted it with my mouth? They don't know you. They don't even know where you live. You won the first prize. This key and this one. Fantastic. You can't move your own fingers. It's a difficult chord. Joni. Why don't we forget the arguments for and against the gift? What questions? Well, Jesus says everything I ask for is given to you. But... Joni. I think my faith is enough for both of us. Don. Do you have a moment? Of course. Come, we're going out. You know I'm not the big bad wolf. I don't want to hurt you. I know, not on purpose. I'm sure. I know God brought us together. For marriage? If God really wanted it, I knew it too. I know. You can't always protect her, Jay. Do you sometimes dream? When I sleep? Sometimes? No, not my daydream. Have you ever dreamt of me? You're a very selfish person. Do you sometimes dream of us? Of our common future? Yes, I dream. But many dreams I had to give up because of my condition. We can do it. We rent a small house. We can do it. We rent a small house. We can do it. At home, everything should be clear. What will we do when we have the pots and pans together? There is a big problem I mean in bed. And you probably want children. That's not a problem. I still want to spend my life with you because I will always love you. Like now. You shouldn't talk about our future unless you mean it honestly. You mean it honestly. I want to believe in it. I want to believe in it. I'm craving something crazy. How about caramel apples? Yes, that's the idea. We'll buy caramel apples and sugar waffles. I haven't eaten caramel apples for ages. That's at least 10 years here, if not longer. Lots of apples. Yes, great. I know you can do wonders. Please, listen to me. When I was in the hospital, a guy burst into my room. He grabbed my arm and prayed loudly and for a long time. I will never forget his face. He called, God, heal this woman. I was like a child. I was a child. I was a child. I was in pain. I was shaking and I thought I was healed. You were a child. You told me that God sent you to help you. That's the next step to true faith. What do you think of the verse that says God wants you to be unharmed? That's medically impossible. My spinal cord is broken. God has to put it back together. Is there anyone between you who is desperate? Or is there anyone sick? Then he should pray. God should ask him to free him from his suffering. And if his prayer springs out from a faithful heart, he will be healed. Joni, I believe it is God's will that you will be healed. Oh Lord, your word says that it is in your power to do all things. And Joni and I believe in you, Father. We trust your word when you say that everything will be possible for the one who believes. Father, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, I ask you to heal Joni, so that we can serve you in your kingdom. Amen. Amen. The miracle will probably not happen without your help. I will call you back. Amen. He didn't call. Last time he was there a week ago. You don't want to talk to me about it, do you? Maybe in 20 years. I tell my hands and fingers that they should move again and again. But this message doesn't reach them. I had the hope that you would heal yourself by putting me back on my feet. I believed in it. Really. You have to have something else in mind. I will follow you, whatever you have in mind. I have gone too far to get back on my feet. Jay? Jay? Come here. Come here, quickly. What's going on? My pictures are all gone. Oh, Dett thought they had to be exhibited. Exhibited. In this family, everyone has gone crazy. Which fool will exhibit my pictures? Dett has found someone. I have no time for this. I have no time for this. I hope nobody comes. I just hope that people will stand around and stare at everything. Don't get like that. Don't start screaming when we go in. I don't want to see you with your pictures. What did you do? You think they are exhibited for sale? Please, let me out. I want to get out. I want to get out. Here is Adam Woods with the exhibition report. I would like to introduce you to the father of Johnny Erdekson. This artist has a difficult fate to fight. She is cross-stitching. Mr. Erdekson, Johnny started painting. My daughter was 17 years old. She started painting as part of the therapy. They are for my daughter. Isn't that incredible? I am curious. Your father is being interviewed. Look at this. No, I can't stand it. We are here. If I ever need my hands again, I will beat you. Your paintings have a great appeal. How do you feel? What do you want to say to our viewers? Nothing special. Are these roses a gift from your father? Yes, I mean no. They are from the mayor. I am sorry. That's all right. We like it here. I do too. I say goodbye to our viewers. Goodbye. What's up, Johnny? I am just checking if Don is here. I haven't seen him. This is great. We are proud of you. How much do you have? I think 1000 dollars. If the paintings are sold so well, they will be sold out in a week. You have a reason to celebrate. You have worked long enough for it. Why do they sell them? You are good at being modest. I heard from my husband that he just came back from Europe. He is in the bathroom. I like this painting. Is that you? I know. Could you please take off the price tag? The painting is unsold. I am proud of you. I think so too. My friends are a bit over the top. I would like to know how you managed to do it. What? I could tell you a very trivial story. Or we could sit down somewhere. If you want to hear more. I am sorry. You have to push me. I am sorry. How long were you at high school? Until 1967. Yes, just like me. We have learned a lot, but nothing about our problems. That would be too difficult. In school you would have said that it was an exception of social society. Yes, exactly. There are millions of questions and very few answers that can be accepted. Half of my class went to college and the other half to Vietnam. Some of us survived and some of us died. And some of us are now in the crutches of the world. Nobody told us that the world looked like this. I only know something very well. I know who set me up again. That's an illusion. No, I sleep well at night and I laugh a lot. Look, if there is really something like heaven and if Jesus actually died on the cross because he wanted to build a bridge between us and God, then it would be a great help to know him. I mean, really, I think it's really worthwhile. And maybe for you too. Look, it's better to sit in this chair and love God than to be able to walk again and not love him. And I've never realized that I'm not in love with God. Maybe it's an invitation or who knows what else. You convinced me. I'm sorry. Please bring me back. Oh, dear. You're good. Johnny, please, Jay. Hi. Hello, Jay. I just saw you on TV. I'm very proud of you. Yes, that was a great thing, but I don't think I'll do it again. Johnny, I have to know how to get on with us. I'm sure you already know. So don't say anything big. Tell me. Johnny. Johnny, I was offered a job in the North as a youth leader. The job is exciting. I'm going. Great. When are you leaving? Today. You wanted me immediately. I'm better with children. I want to ask you a question. Before you take on better tasks. Go ahead. When you touched me, what did you think? Was it like a test of character or an experiment? No. To kiss you, to be tender to you, to share your life with you was wonderful. You're the most enchanting woman I know. Do you think I could have overcome all the difficulties? Johnny, I thought God had cleared everything for me. I thought I could do everything I wanted to do. I have so many questions. I'm stuffed to the top. His answers are often incomprehensible to us. I'm out of balance. I don't know what to do. Johnny, I want to leave you as a friend. A lot has changed, but I want to be with you. The children you take care of can be happy when they have you. It's over. I can still feel it. I think I'm still alive. I just want to be alone for a while. I remember someone asking me how I could make my life more meaningful. I couldn't say much more than Jesus helped me. I didn't know much about the Bible back then, but I had the feeling that God was bringing my broken life together. He gave me something special, something wonderful. I was so happy that I could be with him. He gave me something wonderful. Today I know that God is coming with me. I could never have made it happen on my own. But that doesn't mean that I can understand everything. I know who knows the answers and I can wait. I know who knows the answers and I can wait. I know who knows the answers and I can wait. I know who knows the answers and I can wait. It took me a long time to understand that disabilities are everywhere and in all forms. Broken love, broken hearts, disappointed feelings, problems that you can't handle, doubt, or the feeling of loneliness. Sometimes everything can be a disability like a wheelchair. I know what I'm talking about. But one thing is clear. We have no feelings for Christ, the dead. And when I think that Jesus hung on the cross for me and died for me because he loves me, even if I don't care about him, then I have discovered something that is really unreachable. Heaven will be heavenly because God will give us new senses and new bodies. And the Bible promises that we can be happy forever and ever. I can't wait. I would like to stand on my feet in front of God that can move and I want arms and hands that work. I will wave to him and I will praise him all over the universe. Everyone should hear it. Jesus Christ is the Lord, the Son of the living God. And this is the beginning. If I hadn't decided to go swimming in the Chesapeake Bay on the hot July day of 1967, I would not be here and talk to you about the greatness of God. But I am here. I thank you for listening. Free and strong to carry on until the journey's end. Each mile I put between the past and the future in your hand. I learn more of your providence and I find out who I am. I want to thank you for the gift of your Son and for the mystery of prayer and for the faith to doubt and yet believe that you're really there. The mysteries of your Word are the questions of my days. I search them now to understand the wisdom of your ways. Jesus walks before me and clearly marks the path to guide me to the Father and to peace at last. I want to thank you for the gift of your Son and for the mystery of prayer and for the faith to doubt and yet believe that you're really there. Yes, you're really there. I believe it is true when the Bible says that Jesus alone is the way to get to know God. It takes us so much when our guilt leads us to reject Him. The most important decision we can make in life is to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. Through Him we first experience what it means to love, to give and to have peace. I pray for you that you start searching for Him and to find Him. Er lebt. Thank you. Thank you.
