Two zero zero fourteen is Muller, who's waiting and watching. The clock has been all hour and Zubriggen, the favourite come through. The moment that every skier dreams of. The one chance in four years, lasting two minutes or less. The chance to become Olympic downhill champion. The number one title of the Winter Games. Well, Perman Zubriggen, now retired, took his chance in Calgary in Canada in 1988. In just over a month from now, a new champion will be decided on a course which could well be the most dramatic, the most picturesque Olympic run ever built. The Fasta Belvoir in France. Hello and welcome to a new series of Ski World. And whilst we enjoy a summer break here in Australia, half a world away, the finest ski races in the world are set to begin their quest for World Cup and Olympic gold on the ski slopes of Europe. Of course, this coming February sees the start of the 16th Winter Olympic Games from Albavel. And Wide World of Sports will be there to present all the action. In freestyle skiing, we have a real chance of a gold medal in Kirstie Marshall. She's had a great start to the season with wins in France and Italy. And with that sort of form, she must be one of the favourites in the Olympics. But back to the downhill. And the pre-season favourite is Franz Heinzer from Switzerland, the current World Cup and World Champion. The biggest threat to a Swiss Olympic double should be Atli Skådal of Norway, a nation who've emerged from the downhill shadows. But Switzerland has strength and depth. Daniel Marra is overdue for a really big success. Austria used to dominate the downhills. Helmut Hoflenner is their best chance to win the Olympic gold for the first time since 1980. Italy are pages back in the record book. Christian Gardiner has suddenly and surprisingly given them new hope. These leading contenders in other top races are this week on the La Decorce in Val d'Azer for the traditional start of the season. The Belvard Run has been kept for the Olympic spectacle. And as always, it's a testing opener for the classics to come. Here's David Vine. Silver medalist in the Olympic Games of Lake Classad in 1980, won here in 1979. From the top, a chance to tuck and a few easy swinging turns before it gets much more difficult. Val d'Azer are famous for its compression, of course. They drop right down into a bowl and come out round the wall. Two turns before that. Check on one of the earlier runners, four runners. And point two, four down. Well, Wernsberger has done something terribly wrong for that because the earlier runners should be anywhere near that sort of time. Wernsberger, of course, now 33, one of the old Austrian guards looking for new people. Coming down into the final, Chouche will keep tight to the gate, trying to keep the line as tight as possible. And Wernsberger in in 1.58.17, and that's a bad run. Eight World Cup wins, the last in 86. Number two is Hannes Sehentner, Germany. Seventh in the World Cup championship last season. Season of World Cup races. Sehentner skied well here last year when he was fourth. You see them first at the top and then, as you see, further down the course, right the way to the bottom. We've got a comparison with Wernsberger or in fact one of the earlier men who was quicker than Wernsberger, which is the big surprise. Sehentner a little ragged there. And that's better. That's more like the time we're expecting. Leaves by 0.43. Into the dip of the combination, the compression rides the wall and nearly gets it wrong. There are two ways of going. You can ride the wall or go in low, and going in low gives you a difficult exit. And Sehentner made it difficult all the way. He'll have lost time there. He was 0.43 up at that midpoint. And that's where he lost it. Sehentner had the chance and lost it in the famous Valdez air compression. We want to show you how good our service really is. They were great. The favorite, Franz Heinzer, world champion, World Cup champion. His first ever win of his career was back in 1983. Four World Cup wins last season, eight in all. The favorite for this, the favorite for the Olympic Games to come in February. One of the early snow seats, a Swiss racer called Brunner still leaves from Sehendler of Germany. Heinzer has emerged from the shadows of the Zubriggens and the Mullers. Zubriggens retired, Muller is still racing. Amazingly, he's racing here. This time should be impressive. Yes, it is. Look at that, 1.36. Heinzer attacks so well, he wished to be known as Mr. Fourth Place Man. He missed medals in World Championship, Olympic Games. Rides the wall of the compression. Comes out in a turnout, swings right-handed. Got it good, that's a good line. No snow off the skis. You see snow off the skis as he lands out of the compression. He hasn't prepared for the turn properly and Heinzer, so clean, driving the Montwell. 1.57.58, the early surprise lead. And that's gone. And that's more like the time we're looking for after a disappointing run by Wernsberger. Sehendler got it wrong in compression and Heinzer leads at the moment. Daniel Mara, Switzerland, bronze medalist in the World Championships. Second last year here to Leonard Stock, the race is later at number 12. Mara, very strong, likes the big, fast speed courses. If he has any problems at all, it is in the tight turns. Four World Cup wins in a row, one last season, that was a garmish. Tacking Heinzer, his teammate. And this time is vital, and he's down at the moment, 0.47. In he comes. A little higher than Heinzer on the wall. He picks it. 0.47 to pick up from that spot is very difficult, but Mara quite often picks up on the bottom of the courses. Tremendous strength, this is where he gets his speed in this sort of part of the course. Sits well, glides well, 1.56.21 is a deceptive run in. He's close, and he is close. One hundredth of a second outside. Mara, once again, doing so well on the lower part of the course. And he says, look at that, one hundredth. Val d'Isère was actually one one year by one hundredth of a second. Heinzer still leads from Mara. The big man from Austria, 24 years old. Six in the World Cup championship last season and fifth year last year. Ortlieb, a little lucky to be racing, had a tremendous tumble in training. He went straight through the nets, just above the compression. He tore them apart, there was a big hold in the training run, but he's perfectly OK. He's promised so much over the last three or four years, yet I think to show his full potential. Point seven, one down. Sort of scared the Austrian need because they've got three men in the top 15 all over 30 years old. And this is the youngest of the top four squad. The Austrian train has been working on Ortlieb's technique certainly last season. And that certainly showed an improvement in his form. But point five eight there, he's the best of the Austrians. Still Switzerland one and two, the hundredth of a second between them. And then Ortlieb point five eight behind them. A big question mark hanging over this man. Ortlieb Stadle of Norway in a big shot. The World Cup runner up last season to Heinzer. He got a bad attack of Salmonetta last September. Almost wasn't able to start the season. He's lost over a stone and weight. He's certainly not fully fit. Second here a couple of seasons ago, disappointing in the last Olympic Games when he was 15. Skordahl and a big name for this season's Olympic Games. The Norwegians have been beset by injuries and illness. They had a big round their camp last night when they found out they'd all been using the wrong wax. They put on a warm wax. It's quite cold here. It's minus 10 at the top, minus five at the bottom. And Skordahl still a half a second down there. He's normally pale faced. He was paler than ever when we saw him this morning and much thinner than he normally was. That Salmonetta is obviously taken out of him. And he wasn't right there either. So Heinzer, 100 faster than Mara. Skordahl on the run. Norway, the nation who suddenly come right back into downhill racing. Led by this man. There are a couple of other good ones as well. And he goes fourth. He's behind Ortlieb, the Austrian. And he's got a lot of work to do to get himself fully fit for the rest of this World Cup and, of course, the Olympic Games. Up the road from this course on the fast Béla Varde at the top end of Val d'Isère. Austria, lying third with Ortlieb behind the two Swiss. And this is the chance they may have to up settle that. Huflenner, who won here two seasons ago. Ten World Cup wins. But remembering, I'm sure, that the last time he raced here, he had a fall in the compression. And that's a very rare thing for Huflenner. One of the greatest records of all time. Yet to win a World Championship or Olympic Games medal, he's done virtually everything else. Past his ridden this course so well. That one mistake last time. Point eight five done already. And he nearly goes again. High on the wall of the compression. Makes the turn, the right hand turn out. Goes very close to the net. Virtually impossible. We saw Mara pick up about point four on the bottom part to go second to Heinz by a hundred. But I don't think Huflenner can pick up that he was point eight down. That's a big gap. And he can't. That's a disappointing run. Austria, best man still ought to lead third behind Mara and Heinz are the leader for Switzerland. And Huflenner knows that wasn't good. Up, up, up, up! Up, up, up for Gideon, Christian Gideon, who had a bad car crash in the States in the summer. He said first of all he wasn't going to race in the World Cup at the start of the season, was going to try and make the team for the Olympic Games, but he came here to train and here he is racing. And he's a big name. Silver medal in the World Championship combined, where they ski downhill in Slalom and Gideon, that's the way he skis. His arms quite often all over the place. He's a bit of a rough, rip-roaring skier. Comes from Cortina. I think this is more of a try than anything else. And that time reflects it. The world's silver medalist in the downhill was injured here in training. Six will be back for next week for Val Gardena in Italy, but not racing here. This might be Gideon's best ever performance. Don't write him off. I still think he's going to be a great athlete. He's going to be a great athlete. This might be Gideon's best ever performance. Don't write him off. I still think he's going to be a big name for that course over the end of town in the Olympic Games. Ninth. Nobody yet can split the Swiss, Heinzer and Marr. Leonard Stock of Austria, 33 now, the Olympic champion of Lake Placid in 1980, fourth in the Games in Calgary, the year the last time this race was held. The famous Austrian who became Olympic champion without ever having won a World Cup race. Since then he's won two. Ortlieb, the best Austrian, lying third. Stock can do something about this. He loves the course and he can. He's 800 up. Leonard Stock is going again. 33 years old and still with it and still racing well. Compression lifts the tip of the ski a little there. Let's keep the skis flat. One bit of air underneath that and you're back over the edge. Stock's still OK. Up at the checkpoint. The Swiss still leading, Heinzer and Marr. This is where Marr got all the speed. That's Heinzer's time on the left. Stock kept it going, 54, 55. He has. Leonard Stock defending his Val d'Isère title has taken the Swiss off the top of the list. Stock leads by 300 from Heinzer, who leads by 100 from Marr. A.J. Kitt, United States, with Leonard Stock leading for Austria, Heinzer second, Marr third. And a man from Rochester, New York now, who's twice been fourth in World Cup races, looked very good last season, getting better all the time. Tall, well-built, strong ski racer. Keeps low. Good position. And only 700s and Kitt slightly astray on the landing. But this is possible. And he really is getting some speed, compression. Let's see him out. Good. Draw number 13, attacking the Austrians and the two Swiss. A.J. from the United States. And what a good opener this is to the season. Hundreds of seconds separating. First, second and third, and A.J. Kitt having a go for it. He's got it! A.J. Kitt, look at the time. Never mind the hundreds. Nearly half a second. Terrific. Kitt, United States, lead from Austria, Stock, Heinzer and Marr, Switzerland. 34-years-old Peter Muller. If I had a month, I could tell you his record. Twice a silver medalist in the Olympic Games and a fourth place. A gold in the World Championships and two silvers. It goes on and on. 19 World Cup wins, but never here. The best he ever did was a second and 81 declammer. Muller, who refuses to give up. The Swiss team is a bit of a loner. Great rival, of course, in Brigham. Now retired, and Muller one and a quarter down. Lost a bit of weight recently. He runs a big health fitness center back home. Never forgot the moment when he won that World Championships in 87. A tear in his eye when finally, after being second so often, he'd got it. He said yesterday, another season and it won't be my last. Desperately wants to make the four-man team for the Olympic Games. And on the run now, there is a hope for Austria. Peter Rehack. 21 years old. Still to win a World Cup race. And Austria still can't quite believe that they haven't got this one in the bag. Leonard Stock, the defending champion here, looked to have it there until he was overtaken by A.J. Kitt. Rehack, 21 years old, and they're hoping he's going to produce something. They're so desperate in eating young downhill skiers. 33, 34, he's getting a little old for this business. The seventh in the races in the States last year, Lake Louise. And Rehack, that's good. Eighth place for him. If they can work on him, there could be something coming out this season. Xavier Gigande of Switzerland. Third and fourth, Switzerland. Heinz and Mara, ahead of them, stock of Austria. And the last one, the last one, the last one, the last one. Third and fourth, Switzerland, Heinz and Mara, ahead of them, stock of Austria. Leading the pack, A.J. Kitt, United States. Gigande, right. Oh, Gigande. Not a bad run either. Fifth place, Gigande producing a bit of a late surprise. Xavier Gigande, despite a couple of mistakes, one in the compression, certainly. Armin Aschinger of Austria. That's a good run for Aschinger. Just over a second down, remember he's going to start number 41. Then it's a good run for Aschinger. That's a good run for Aschinger. Leonard Stopp, the best of the Austrians in second place, lost his Val d'Isère title, the one he won here last season. Lost it to A.J. Kitt, and they could do with something from Aschinger. The Ortlieb line six, Rehac line nine. Aschinger goes eighth, good run for him. So the season has opened in style, not just the good weather, but a race that will be talked about. A.J. Kitt of the United States becomes only the second American ever to win a men's World Cup downhill. Billy Johnson did it eight seasons ago when he won three, but A.J. Kitt now on the American roll of honor. He beats the Austrian Leonard Stock, the defending Val d'Isère champion. The Swiss have had a shock. Heinz was the big favorite. He's third, 100th quicker than his teammate Daniel Maurer. And the Norwegians, a lot of work to do. Full of injuries, full of illness, Atlees scored all their best in seventh place. Everything was going well in training. I had to ski fast. My skis were in tune perfectly and it felt really good. Last year I was third twice in training and I had a disappointment on race day. But today it felt much different. I skied fast. Tell me about the run from the top. It's hard to say. I just felt clean. I felt very solid all the way down. I didn't feel like I made any major errors anywhere. The skis felt really fast on the flats and in the turns they were perfect. What about the compression? I think the compression was the key to my win today. I came out of there with so much speed it kind of surprised me. I went through there on a very direct line and didn't have to make a lot of movement side to side. I think that helped a lot. Out of the compression is so vital here. Absolutely. I think coming into it I had a little bobble over one of the rolls. I was able to let the skis run and stay in a low position. I came up on the bank and I wanted to be a little closer to the gate on the compression today than I wasn't training yesterday. I was able to do that and make a very straight line through there. So the first race giving us a big upset with AJ Kidd. In our next show we move on with the World Cup to Val Gardena in Italy. The downhill run not only famous for its camel bumps but for the turns at the Chaslat. And going there in style will be America's new skiing hero AJ Kidd. I hope you can join us then. Music Music Welcome to the highlights of the fourth day's play of this test match. The Boxing Day test between Australia and India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Australians pretty much on top at the end of the third evening which was taken into extra time because of a delay at the start and then rain and bad light during the day. This is the way the Indian card looked at the close of play on the third day. They're five for 92, the batsmen out, Shastri for 22, Srikanth for six, Manchurica top score 30, Aasiruddin for two and the night watchman Raju for one. The night out batsmen, Vensaka 14 and Tendulkar eight. India's six ahead and the bowling figures for the Australians, well impressive work again by McDermott and Reid. Hughes doesn't have a wicket at the moment. Condition's good. They had said there might be some drizzle early in the morning but it dawned lovely and clear and a temperature round about 22, 23 degrees. Ideal for test match cricket and for a fight back by the Indians. We join play now in the fifth over. It's five for 96, Tendulkar is taking strike and Bruce Reid is the bowler. That shot beautifully. Got it away fine. That area seems to be just a little quicker than the rest of the outfield. We've seen one or two shots played in that direction by Marsh and one or two others. Anything that's whooped away fine seems to run away very quickly to the boundary. Genuine leg glance. Marsh plays that well. Tendulkar on that occasion played it beautifully with Reid. Just getting onto leg stump. That's the sort of stroke I've seen this young player make on many occasions overseas. Lovely shot there, Tendulkar. Under that front foot, rocking onto the back foot and hitting that right in the middle. It's racing away on a much quicker outfield now. Four runs. There's a bit of an edge there but whether it was before or after the ball hit the pad is another matter. Certainly there's an edge of some kind. Mervyn Hughes is very confident about that appeal and I think looking at it you would hope. There's a little bit of wood there before it hit the pad. Maybe we could say was just out of the line of the off stump. Pretty adjacent. Just landed short and Craig McDermott not overly happy about it. It's that short of delivery the Australians have been testing Sachin Tendulkar with all morning. Definitely feel there's a weakness there and that was a lovely delivery and a good effort to get it down to land short of second slip Mark Wohr. Only just short. Six or eight inches in front of the groping hands of Wohr. Shouts of catch it but it didn't go far. Looked like it might have gone from the glove on to the body somewhere. Maybe even the helmet. Good delivery. The sort of delivery that picked up Mandrakeau yesterday from the right thumb to the slips. Definitely hit the helmet. He's looking to get on with the game. He's got a very positive attitude, aggressive attitude with the bat in his hand. Merv's a very aggressive bowler. Saw it in short, hit the ball. Front of point in the air over Dean Jones and wide of him. Good shot. That's one of the reasons why I'd like to see a little bit more of this bloke. Exciting young player, great prospect for India. Latched onto this short delivery from Merv Hughes very quickly. There's nothing in the air about that one. Timing and the placement, footwork, looking to get forward. But once he realized it was short, he was very quickly pushing back off that front foot. They've posted a 50 partnership and Tendulkar has done most of the work. 53 the partnership now. He scored 36 and there have also been five extras in the partnership. And Peter Taylor is going to take over. Oh he's hit that one, it's up in the air. He didn't middle it. This is going to be outcourt. Yes it's in the air, underneath it and he's got him. Very good shots in the outfield. Alan Borda moving back, eye on the ball all the time. And I tell you what, that was not an easy catch. It went miles in the air. Borda watched it. That will go down as a classic for sure. What a marvelous catch there by the Australian captain. Tendulkar losing his patience, trying to hit. Taylor over the top did connect it at all. But it still went way up in the sky. Borda judging it beautifully. Didn't take his eyes off at all. What a marvelous catch. It's beautifully taken by Borda and I think he might have enjoyed that as well. So the end of sentient Tendulkar, he's out for 40, caught by Borda in the deep. Trying to get Peter Taylor over the top. Very unfortunate from India's point of view, six for 140. 32 years of age, Kapil Dev, a mountain of experience. That's in the air and way down the ground. No one's going to catch this one. And into the fence it goes. A little bit of confusion there by Dev. The ball's gone behind the side screen. So he wasn't quite sure whether it had gone for Borda or not. This must be one of the very rare occasions that Kapil Dev must be confused. Normally when he hits it, he knows it's gone either to the boundary or over the boundary. He's gone for that one as well. That's a huge hit straight down the ground and over the top he goes. A magnificent six by Dev. That brings up the 150 and it's also clearly told us exactly how Dev's going to go about treating Peter Taylor. Six for 152. So Dev having a little look around. There's a man down a deep square leg there, two of them behind square in case he tries to hook. Oh, he's out, caught behind. Yes, big nip there. Beautiful delivery from Bruce Reed. 100 dismissals for Hedy. Ten wickets in the match for Reed. Fine bowling keeping one for the hook shot and then pitching outside the off stump. Very good bowling there by Bruce Reed. It's very disappointing there for Dev. Two big straight hits and now he's out caught behind off the bowling of Reed. He now has taken ten wickets in this inning, seven for 100 in this match, seven for 153. Manoj Prabhakar is the new batsman. That's a full toss, a rank full toss as well and smashed away to the boundary for four. Delivery that one and what exactly what it deserved. And welcome back here. Leather slacks and skirts from a crazy $49. End the year out at 80 Perry Street, Adelaide. All you've got to hide, Gwen Jones. That's another one. Five again. In that angle, he's dog a half-ball is up, and it was a fraction shorter, a fraction quicker. And Healy did the rest. Is there a great combination? Reid and Healy. Barker goes, just pushing at that one and getting a nice little edge. Healy going in that direction anyhow to take the ball. And that's another five for Bruce Reid. India, eight for 173. Here in Moray comes the crease with India, really struggling now. Zendulka is coming out. He's already dismissed. No problem with that. He needs to wear the same gear as the batsman for whom he's running. That's Moray, eight for 197. There's a man out in the outfield, but he's not in the right spot. Jones at deep mid-wicket. No chance of getting that. That's his 15. That's a good knock. Just fractionally, Merv seemed not to move to his right there. May have slipped with his left foot, trying to push off. It was quite firmly hit back. And a good effort. Just seemed not quite to get himself going at the right moment. Yeah, just a little slip, not that slip, but there was one when he was trying to push off towards the ball. It's going to be Bruce Reid. Another one down, caught and bowled. And to Bruce Reid's wrong hand. But at least this time, Reid was going the right direction on his follow-through to his wrong hand. That's probably not the view. Big swing up. Kira Moray's taken a belting out there. First inning, he was hit all over the hands and the body. He's got a muscle now. And Bruce Reid has claimed six again. Here's the ball coming in with the arm. Natural swing for Bruce Reid, hitting Moray well below the roll of the left pad. It's nine for 203, 13 in India. Any girls from that? It's in the air. Whitney coming around. A little bit of misunderstanding between Whitney and Boon there on the left side. Boon finished up looking up to see who was there. It was Michael Whitney, acting as fourth man on the field. He's had to run about 10 yards to his left. And in the end, a full-length dive and a very fine catch. Evansack again for the pull shot. And there's Whitney. I don't know what Boon was doing there, but in the end, Whitney made a lot of ground and dive. And that's a classic catch along with Alan Borda today. Two fine running catches running with the ball. And finally out for 54, court substitute Whitney, Michael Whitney, a fine catch. Bob McDermott. Come on a journey into the future. This is a medical emergency. With danger at every turn. What the hell is going on here? An adventure in every episode. Restrain the cactus. Star Trek, Wednesday, 7.30 on Channel 9. Welcome back. That was a terrific performance from the Australians. The Indians fought, but they weren't good enough. This was the story of their second innings, 213 they made all out. It was Vensaka and Tendulka who started off today. Vensaka finished last man out, 54. And the bowling figures were once again dominated by Reid. But not quite as much as in the first innings. Chris McDermott bowled pretty well in the second effort, 3 for 63. We join play now with the Australian reply in the ninth over. Kapil Dev is the bowler. Marsh is taking strike and it's no wicket for 13. In the air, this will be out, no it won't. Well that was very lucky. It hit the shoulder of the bat I'd say. And went spooning over the top of the slips in the gully. And a very frustrated Dev. Got that one to bounce a little bit. Back goes Mandrakeh, desperately trying to reach out for that one. It wasn't to be. Terrific dive there from Mandrakeh. Oh, big appeal there and he's given him out, WW. It certainly kept very low. The question was, was it going down the leg side? It seemed to me to nip back quite a long way. It certainly kept low. And Marsh wasn't able to get bat on that one. Well that's the MCG shooter that you get the odd one off. And Marsh was a long way across there. You could see a good bit of leg stump and maybe even a touch of middle. So Marsh is on his way. It'll be W to Prabhakar. It's one for 16. Birthday boy himself, David Boone. Cut shot. That was all the way. David Boone a very good square of the river play. Just a little bit of width, not all that much width from Kapil Dev. And he beat Mandrakeh Gully with a very positive stroke. Yes, can't afford to do that to David Boone. That is definitely one of his strengths. And right on top of that and races away to the fence. Oh what happened there? Nobody was moving Gully. Mandrakeh had a look to point. Point had a look to Mandrakeh. I think it was always going to be safe. But the cry was catch it. Quicker delivery from Kapil Dev. There's no one there to catch it. And a bit of bounce there for Kapil Dev which surprised David Boone. He's dug it in with a bit more pace off the top shoulder of the bat. Had a good look at each other and thought well I better chase that while they run two safe runs. That's two more to the total. Two very handy runs to the total. The guys from that coming into the attack. Great shot, that's a round of the four. And it's not the three. Seemed to be well hit. Just wondering if he put his hand on the fence there. I'm probably just having a good look at the fieldsman. That's our asking the question. One brings up the 50 for Australia. He can't bowl short to Mark Taylor when he's in this mood. Rabaka bowled very well before the tee break. He's got a bit carried away with the short pitch delivery since. This short delivery was begging for punishment and that's what Mark Taylor has just done. Mark Taylor needing just a single for the half century. Places Raju. There it is, 50 for Mark Taylor. Very well made 50. It was tough early on when the new bowler was there moving around and very well bounced. He gritted his teeth and played some superb shots Mark Taylor. One memorable full shot. And stumped. Yes he's been given by Empire King and he'll be disappointed with that. So close I think he was going for the big finish. He's showing coming in quickly, there's a long way down out by a long way out for 60, 2 for 122. Alan Border coming out hopefully to hit the winning runs. Gives him the slower one and they're safely through. Well run David Boon. He was backing up and Alan Border gets the winning run and Australia take a 2-0 lead in this series. The Australians have done it in four days. 60 for Mark Taylor, I thought he played very well. Jeff Marsh out for 10 with the shooter and Boon played well for 44. 2 for 128 and the Indian bowling figures. Kapil Dev didn't get a wicket but he bowled well. Prabhakar took one and Venkatapati Raju also a wicket. Tony Gregg now is down in the presentation area. He has the two skippers with him and the player of the match. I've got $22,000 here and Alan Border is going to receive $18,000 of those. Well done. Do you enjoy leaving it to the last moment? I know we've got another day up our sleeve but we didn't want to take any chances this afternoon. Once we got off to such a good start but we did leave it right to the death. Tremendous performance by Bruce Reed. Fantastic performance. I don't know how many weeks he's taken in the last two test matches he's played here. Something phenomenal. The wicket being a little bit up and down and varying in pace. He's just the perfect bowler for that wicket. All the batsmen did struggle throughout the test match. No-one really dominated. I thought probably Ian Healy's innings and later part of Dean Jones was probably the only two blokes that really looked comfortable. Not perfect yet but they're getting there. A good victory. Good win for us. Well, Mohammed has been good enough to come down. Bad luck. There's $3,000 for you. You're getting drowned. You're sorry. How are you feeling about it all? Not too good at the moment? Not really good because I thought we played much below our potential. We've got to have a couple of partnerships of 100 runs. It makes it very easy. I'd like to congratulate Bruce Reed. He's really bowled very well and the Australian team has really played well. Thank you very much. We've got a Man of the Match award here as well and that's $1,000 plus this Baccarat Crystal Decanter and Bruce Reed's been named the Man of the Match. Would you like to hang on to that? Congratulations. Melbourne's the spot, isn't it? It's the place to be, isn't it? Yes. What's that, twice in a row now? Yeah, 13 last year I think and 12 this year so it's not too bad I suppose. A bit of bounce there, a little bit of inconsistent bounce but it seems to me that the wicket here is improving. The grass coverage is a little better than it was. Yeah, it had a better grass coverage on it than it did last year. Last year it really cracked up and it was a lot worse than the last two days. So, you know, they're getting there but it was a little bit up and down. And Alan Borda didn't ask you to go in at the end to knock off those last few? No, no, Big Merv was ready to go in. Oh, yeah. Well, very well played. Congratulations on your performance. Yes. Right, well that's all from down here, Richie. Back to you. Thanks, Tony and I can assure you the player of the match, adjudicator, had no trouble in choosing Bruce Reed. He bowled quite magnificently all the way through. The third Test Match comes up in Sydney on January the 2nd to the 6th. The game at the SCG, Ticketteco 2 if you're outside the city, 266 48 00. We look forward to having you with us.
