Well, for the answer, let's check your list. Let's get some help from Courtney Thorne-Smith. Hi, I'm Courtney Thorne-Smith from Melrose Place. Did you know the tickets to the first Super Bowl were sold for $6, $10, and $12, and the game didn't even sell out? Last year's game attracted a sellout crowd of more than 76,000 people, and the tickets cost up to $350. I was wondering, what would $6 get me at today's game? I ran into these binoculars. I bought half a bratwurst off a guy tailgating in a parking lot. I bought the Super Bowl trophy. Seriously, you think it's real? And they say money has lost its value. All right, for all of you football sharpies out there, when we left for commercial break, the question, the ath-like trivia question, was which three colleges have each produced a record three Super Bowl-starting quarterbacks? Well, for the answer, we turn to two cast members from Fox's Party of Five. Hi! Hi, I'm Neve Campbell. And I'm Scott Wolf. And we're from Party of Five. Can you name the three college football programs that you've been working on since you were a kid? Can you name the three college football programs that have each produced three starting Super Bowl-quarterbacks? That's easy. Joe Capp, Craig Morton, and Vince Ferragamo all came from the University of California. Daryl Lamonica, Joe Theismann, and Joe Montana all played for Notre Dame. And finally, Bart Starr, Joe Namath, and Ken Stabler all played for the University of Alabama. Hey, I got a question. How come Neve gets the high-stepping bear and the boxing leprechaun and all I get is this elephant? Don't you do anything? Today, go ahead. Think about Green Bay and New England. But tomorrow, when things are normal again, I'd like you to think about Aflac and what it can do to help keep things going if you get sick or injured. By helping to fill the gaps, your regular insurance can leave. 40 million people have Aflac. 100,000 U.S. companies offer it. Think about it. Your eyes say Green Bay, but your tail says New England. Probably when they were carrying the coaches off the field, because that meant that it was over and we had won. And that stands out the most among any plays that we did or anything else was seeing Coach Buddy Ryan and Coach Mike Dick being horse-did onto the shoulders of the rest of the team. And in the background, you can see McMahon, you know, with that wink on his eye, that look on his eye, and Matt Seward, that's it. Believe it! The dream is reality! The Chicago Bears are world champions of football! And there is the banner commemorating that victory in Super Bowl XX. Walter Payton's 85 Bears had the league's top defense that paced him the victory over the New England Patriots. As we welcome you back to the sleek digs of Fox Sports Super Sunday. The Green Bay Packers had the league's top-ranked defense this season, but in the last seven games, New England has posted numbers that rival the pack. Now examining both defenses are three guys who know how to get it done. Howie, Ronnie, and Matt Millen. MUSIC All right, let's start. Linebackers, Green Bay Packers. Biggest thing about the Packer Linebackers is that they are a function of their defensive front. This group basically gets it done with four people, and I'd say you'd be hard-pressed to find a better all-around group. Lines up wide, sells the outside move. Harris-Barton's feet get crossed over. He's over-committing to the outside, and Reggie uses what Earl Leggett invented and called the hump move. And this is a bad example of how to block Gilbert Brown. That's a good example. This is a run play. This is not a pass. This is a pull that's not backing up in protection. Gilbert Brown is knocking him in the backfield, into the running pack, and blowing the play-up individually. MUSIC One of the things that Green Bay really likes to do is they like to get Santana Dotson and one of the defensive ends, in this case, Reggie White, to the left side, out on an island. Santana Dotson is a defensive tackle, but he's lined up head-up on the offensive tackle, and Reggie's out in space. This essentially puts Reggie and Santana on an island one-on-one with the right guard and the right tackle. This year, having Santana, having Gilbert, the secondary, can now go out and put some pressure with the safeties. They can gamble with Leroy Butler. MUSIC He's kind of snooping around the line scrimmage, trying to figure out what's going on, trying to give you... I don't... Well, and here he comes. I'm curious if Drew Bledsoe, can he pick that up? Is he smart enough to be able to pick that play up? Because if he's not, if he doesn't throw that back-side slam, he's gonna have a tough day. When Butler is best is when he can free up, and they have the ability with Simmons, with those big strong hands... He puts that handshaker like Rob Martin. And he just... The glove. MUSIC Here he's not locked up in man coverage, which makes us even more impressive, because he's just bumping him off, not giving him a clean rein inside, and then coming off. But you can't let him clean, because you get a guy like Coates to the middle of your defense, he eats up your safety... But how many backers want to do that? Not very many, and that's what makes Simmons so good. MUSIC This defense is schematic. It's comprised of two big play guys, and one of them's a linebacker, and one of them's a pseudo linebacker. They take Slade and McGuinness and line them up right inside of each other. And then they bring them, and you have to... You gotta slide. Okay, you're gonna slide that way, now you gotta declare. They drop someone on the center, try to get them on an island, line Slade, line Slade up outside, McGuinness inside, shoulder to tackle, and they get them in a fan protection, and they get them in space. MUSIC This is another facet of McGuinness' game. Now, what his size and his speed allows him to do, and this is something they do today that we really didn't preach a lot of, is running underneath blocks. And he's really hooked here, but he makes something good out of something bad, shucks the offensive tackle, and with his quickness and his size, he's upfield, he makes the play in the backfield. If you look at McGuinness, I think that Parcells was trying to pattern McGuinness after LT. Now, the other guy inside, Ted Johnson, he's always around the football. Exactly. He's got over, around, and under. Yeah. MUSIC Like we talked about with Green Bay and having to recognize what the Patriots do offensively, same thing for the Patriot defense. Now you have William Henderson, Edgar Bennett, Chamora, and regular personnel, and they're gonna come out and they're gonna pound it on you. Now, here they come out with Edgar Bennett, and they're gonna try to stretch the corner, get to the outside. Second play of the series, two backs, same thing, different formation, switch the backs, and again, now they're gonna come outside and try to throw the football. Third play of the series, now they're gonna go three wides, one back, one tight end. They're just constantly changing things. They gotta be terrified. They gotta be frightened to death now, because they know that Brett Farr, like you said, like Houdini will pop out of there, and having Andre Ryzen and Tonya Freeman, what do you do as a defensive back? The strength of any defense is right down the middle. Baseball, that's right. And that's an A-sport. So you and I know a lot about baseball. Thank you very much. MUSIC Well, if you wonder why Matt Mellon is on top of his announce game, he's always digging for last-minute information as he's talking with the back-to-back MVP, Brett Farr, getting ready for Super Bowl XXXI, as we bring you back inside to talk with our own great, knowledgeable guys. I know that warm-up suit. He's got my warm-up suit on, Matt Mellon. The one he stole from you years ago. Big fella. You're on. Howie, you know, so much has been said about Brett Farr and how to keep him in the pocket, and if you do make him scramble, make him go to his left, what adjustments do you see that New England's gonna do with Slade McGuinness, put him same side? What do you see them doing to him today? Well, in order to facilitate New England getting a pass rush, they have to get it from McGuinness and they have to get it from Slade, or they have to get it from a number of blitzes. They can't get it with their down four like Green Bay does. McGuinness and Slade have the ability to close the speed or the space on Brett Farr, as they did last week versus Jacksonville. Pocket breaks down, quarterback gets out, McGuinness has great closing speed. On the other side of the ball, I just saw off the phone with John Blaha, astronaut, landed on the space shuttle Wednesday. The only two things he could make out from space, Great Wall of China and Gilbert Brown. They've got to deal with this guy first and foremost. New England likes to run the ball between the two defensive tackles. Santana Dotson, this guy must have been in the witness protection program, Ronnie, down in Tampa, because he's a heck of a football player. Okay, we've got defensive linemen worried about Brett Farr, keep the ends up, keep Farr in the pocket, make him get rid of the ball, get the blitzes in his face, but we know against Carolina, he handles blitzes very well. Ronnie, now you take Green Bay's defensive backs and you take Evans and Newsom, and you know Newsom's in for a long day. People are going to go after him in those great safeties. Robinson and Butler, what do you see them doing differently? Shermer's defensive secondary doing differently? Hey, I looked at the secondary two days ago. Howie and I had a chance to go out to practice, and one of the things that I saw was Newsom and Evans, they were working on double moves. They do not want to give up a big pass play in this game. Another thing that you'll see these guys do, they're going to play a lot of too deep, they're going to put pressure on these guys, and look for Bledsoe to probably throw underneath. I think Gilbert Brown's the key in this game. He has to get pressure up the middle on Drew Bledsoe, because Bledsoe cannot move like Brett Farr. I really appreciate you guys being polite today, because when Howie said there were only two things he could see from up in space... You know what, you need to get over that. You need to let that go, guys. You got to be self-conscious about it. All right, folks, there's still a lot more to come as we count down toward kick-off for Super Bowl XXXI, including that guy who has had four previous Super Bowl appearances, Don Beebe. He's hoping this fifth one with the Packers will be a victorious one. Back with more in a moment. Let's go. What's in the package? It's a surprise for my mommy. About 16 ounces. We're going to be doing three things today. First of all, I'll be here providing game commentary throughout the game, along with former Cowboys personnel director Gil Brent, and, of course, Kerry Collins, the star quarterback for the Carolina Panthers. Now, besides ongoing commentary, we're going to be able to answer specific questions that fans may have throughout the game about things and players in the game. And, Kerry, I imagine your focus is going to be on the quarterback. That's right, Tim. My focus is going to be on the quarterbacks and see how Drew Bledsoe and Brett Favre are playing. And I think their play is going to have a big effect on the game, obviously, and I'll be able to answer any questions that the fans have that are on cyberspace and on the Internet, on the site, and be able to help them out. Great. And the third thing we're going to do is continue our poll as to people's favorite NFL MVP throughout the Super Bowl. They've been 30, and, of course, Terry Bradshaw has two of those slots. He's asked me to solicit as many votes as I can for him. And speaking of Terry, JB, I want you to clear something up for me. He's been talking about being a computer whiz throughout the weekend. However, Ronnie and Howie told me this morning that until today, he thought Super Bowl.com was a bathroom cleanser. No, an action film. An action film. You guys are taking shots. But I'm the only one that knows how many bales I hate this big place a hole. Only guy here. And cling to it. That's right, man. Tim Green earned that shot back at you after a couple years ago. We're gonna light the fire. Let's go, baby, let's go, baby. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. I wish I was special What makes you special? Probably one of the things that make me special, I can run. Because I'm smarter than all the other guys. These guys make me special, because I just feed off them. I mean, he blocks a punt, I pick it up, score a touchdown. I'm special, I'm so special I gotta have some of you Attention, give to me What's your attitude? My attitude is kill and destroy when I'm out there. When you get your IRS, you gotta do your income tax. When it puts down occupation, do you write down train killer, kill and destroy? What do you put down for occupation? I'm gonna put kill and destroy. Let me show you what the whole assignment is for this week. Right there, what do you think? I do not want to see it. You think he'll do that? He gets that football? What would you do if he picked that ball up and he gives you one of those? I might go smack him and get 15 yards. You're worth 15? I don't want to see it. I don't know if there's a Heisman Award in the NFL. Before he gets to do that, as soon as he catches it, I think he's gonna get smacked. I don't want to see it. As soon as he catches it, I think he's gonna get smacked. I don't want to see it. I've already told you that. Detroit didn't have anybody forcing the issue. With Desmond, you gotta force the issue with him. The first guy that was downfield, he fell down. That was the flyer. That's gonna be you. That's me. You're the flyer. I'm not falling down. You're the gunner. You gotta be there by now, don't you? Right there. That's me. I'm not missing that tackle. Go back, go back, go a little bit further. Right there, that's the key. Look where the football is. That's the key. You think right here you want to smack that? I want that football. I want that football. I think our punt team also and our kickoff coverage teams will have sort of a sense of urgency, because we understand if Desmond, if we do miss tackles on this guy, this is what will happen. So I think a sense of urgency on our part is really important. We know if he returns one for a touchdown, it's a possibility that we could lose the game. It's all on us. And I don't want to lose the game for a bunch of guys that have worked hard all year because of that guy. See, I'm gonna tell you, if we can set the tone by getting a big hit on Desmond, making him fumble, or just causing the team just to fear our special teams, that's gonna set the whole tone of the game. You know, Buffalo coach Marv Levy is fond of saying that offense sells, tickets, defense wins games, but special teams wins championships. And certainly we know Desmond Howard is a star, but pro bowler David Maggott is on New England's side. That's right. David Maggott, alias Mighty Mouse. Tough. He'll go all the way, and he has a great chance of returning points today. The one thing that I like about David Maggott is that when you try to tackle him, you gotta have your big boy pads. Bernardo Harris, I had a chance to talk with him, the special team guru for the Green Bay Packers. He said, man, I'm ready to take this guy out, TB. I think it's gonna be a great matchup. Do not go to your refrigerator. Believe me, do not go to your refrigerator because special teams are gonna be a big part of this game. You need to slow down, man. Hey, man, I'm jacked. I'm pumped up. I'm ready to hit somebody. You know how I get fired up. I'm with you, big guy. You know, I never thought I would talk about punters, but when you look at Tom Tupa of New England and Craig Hendrick from the Green Bay Packers, punting away from these specialists today may be, in fact, the key to victory. Punting is the most important thing, but when I look at Desmond Howard Howey, the blocking scheme for him is basically very simple. It's like a great eye back in college or like Emmett Smith. You give him the ball and you let him go right or go left, and that's what Desmond does. That's why he's dangerous. You don't know which way he is going to end up running. Yeah, as Ronnie pointed out, you better not pick your pads up at Toys R Us for this game. This is a big-boy pads game. And sit down. The AstroTurf doesn't give you that much speed. You're done. You know, last week, Jacksonville, they beat Jacksonville with special teams. Green Bay, Desmond Howard has had his big impact on that team with the exception of Brett Farr. When Ronnie gives you that serious scowl, aren't you glad he's on our team, though? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. All right, folks, up next on Fox Super Sunday, we'll check in with the guys who'll be calling Super Bowl 31, Pat Semaral and John Madden. How many fans can fit inside the Superdome? We'll try this on for size. You can fit the entire Astrodome inside the Superdome. Snug Fit TV, but it can be done. Well, Dennis, what happened with Swimmer? Insanely interesting, Red, but it's time to bring out our next guest. She is a sexy spokescandy, Green. So, sweetie, you have been busy. Well, my new movie's opening. And, no, Dennis, I don't remove my shell. Of course not. And you know about my book. The bittersweet memoir by Melt For No One. It's changing lives. Hey, babe, call me when you want to do commercials. Oh, I don't do commercials. Oh, that'll kill your career. You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are gray. Meet Wally Sparks. Rated R. Starts Friday. Today, go ahead, think about Green Bay and New England. You're watching Fox Super Sunday live from New Orleans. Let me tell you something. I've been to a beautiful place. I've been to a place where the field is still made out of grass and the roof is still made out of sky. I've been to a place where the crowd's so crazy, they don't know when to stop cheering. And the line's so tough, they don't know how to stop trying. I witness miracles, I walk with legends. Yes, siree, I've been to a beautiful place. All right, all right, everybody. Lay off the organ music, Liberace. I ain't talking about heaven, I'm talking about Green Bay. Now somebody turn down the thermostat in that circus tent and let's play some football. This spirit of Vince Lombardi remains alive and well as we take a look at Drew Bledsoe, who would love nothing better than to pass his team into a championship performance today to claim that, that impressive piece of hardware, the Lombardi Trophy symbolizing the winner of the Super Bowl. And right now, let's take you on upstairs to Pat and John, the guys who'll be calling Super Bowl 31, get their take on this upcoming game. Good afternoon, gentlemen. Good afternoon, JB. And John, you know the players have been caged up and you know they're all ready to play. You know they can't wait for the action to get started. But you've been there as a coach now. What's the coach thinking at this time? It's the same way as a coach. You know, it's been two weeks and you've done everything that you can do and you've said everything that you can say. And as you say, the players are caged up but the coaches are caged up too. And knowing Mike Holmgren and Bill Parcells, they're really caged up right now and you can't wait to get out of there. I always had a rule that once we got to the stadium, I didn't do any coaching in a locker room because I thought by then all I could do was follow them up. So I would coach up until we went to the locker room. I wouldn't coach in the locker room before the game. And then of course, you better be ready to coach once that game starts. But it never crossed your mind to change anything this late? No, no, no. I was, you know, when I first started coaching, I used to go in and I'd see all the players and I'd remind them, okay, don't forget, you do this, you do that. And pretty soon, my players told me I was driving them crazy and they just wanted to get out there. And I think that this is what the players are going through now is we see them out in the field. We see, you know, Drew Bledsoe out there throwing it. This is the first time that they've had anything normal in football in the last two weeks because the one thing that they're doing now is they're getting to the pregame warm-up and they've had that all their lives. And this is kind of the feeling like, hey, I finally got to my office. It's time to go to work. Players are out, the coaches are ready, and we're ready too. And the game will start in just about an hour or so. So Super Bowl 31 coming up and back to you, J.B. All right, Pat, thank you very much. And certainly we know that anxieties are building high and who would know better than a guy who's played the game four years as a defensive back with the Green Bay Packers and he's our reporter standing outside the locker room of the Patriots, our own Ron Pitts. J.B., I just got through talking to several of the New England Patriot players. I'll tell you one thing, they're a very, very confident group. Here's why. They feel, hey, we beat the Green Bay Packers in the preseason. The Packers have to come down here and prove they can beat us in the Super Bowl. Now, they're pretty upset at the fact that they think the Packers have been getting all the attention, all the hype. It's all circulated around them and it's almost to the point where the Packers just have to step on the field and then go back home with the Lombardi Trophy. They say that's not so. One thing that Bill Parcells has said all week long to the team, don't come down here just to play in the Super Bowl. Come down here to beat the Green Bay Packers. What he means by that is don't get caught up in the hype and the drama of what's going on here. Focus, concentrate, play 60 minutes of football like you always do and everything will work out fine. Right now, let's go over to Pam Oliver and see what she's got. Pam? All right, Ron, thanks a lot. And we're here with Antonio Freeman, who should figure to be a big part of this game today. Antonio, I'm wondering, though, how is the team in terms of its readiness, in terms of being mentally focused and totally on page here as you are about to start this big game? Well, it all started out. Coach gave us a one o'clock curfew throughout the whole week and, you know, it's been getting guys in early, getting guys a proper rest, so we've really been resting all week and we've had a great week of practice. We got some key things done and, you know, we're real excited and the long wait is really lighting the fire under us and I look for us to come out real fast today. How are you feeling as a player about to take part in one of the most memorable events of your life? I mean, I'm living out a childhood dream, you know. Ever since I was a youngster, I wanted to be here in this game and, you know, it's just funny that I'm here and only my second year in the league and, you know, it's just... I'm living out a dream right now and I just look to go out and just really have fun and just let everything hang loose. Your quarterback is very well known for kind of being a little hyperactive to begin the game. He's known to have a case of the yips here and there. What's the most important thing for Brett to do and the entire team to do as you begin this game where nerves are bound to play a game? You know, we're going to try to come out and start fast, you know, especially offensively. We know our defense is going to come out and do a great job, but offensively, we struggled early on, you know, throughout the season, so we want to come out and just get things rolling fast, give our little defense a little cushion to play with and, you know, come out and let Desmond Howard run the punch back, get us great field position and, you know, we look to click on all centers today, offensively, defensively, special teams, and, you know, we expect nothing but good things from this football team. All right, thanks so much for stopping by. We really appreciate it and good luck. Thank you very much. Let's go back over to JB now. All right, Pam, that was a conversation that Pam had about an hour ago with Antonio Freeman and when you think about these two squads, their receivers, these were the two highest scoring teams in the league, Green Bay number one and, of course, New England number two, but how he sized up the receiving corps. Well, I'll tell you what, it has all the earmarks of a great, great game in terms of points and passes thrown. Could be a record performance in terms of balls thrown and that's the kind of game, I think, if for Green Bay you want to put New England into. If anything, Drew Bledsoe is an extremely talented player but when forced to throw the ball a number of times, he makes mistakes. He has a great group of receivers, Coach Glenn, Jefferson, Byers, and he's got Mega coming out of the backfield on third down and certainly Green Bay with two all-pro tight ends, Ronnie, Brooks, BB Freeman. This is a group of receivers that could really light up the scoreboard. Hey, I talked to Mike Holmgren and I said, Mike, you were an offensive coordinator in the Super Bowl here before. Are you going to go for the juggler? He says, I'm going for the juggler. So Andre Ryzen, I talked to him. He says, look, we're going to run by these corners. We're going to do deep post, deep slants. We're going to try to attack this secondary and the thing that I'm going to look at is look for a slot formation, Terry, with the inside receiver being Ryzen going to the corner pattern. Yeah, the one thing about these teams against zones and both these kids are strong-armed. Green Bay, a lot of Cover 2 safety is going over top, but the speed of Glenn and Coach, a tight end down the middle on Cover 2 with speed like Coach, kills a secondary. Back out of the backfield, like Byer, kills Cover 2. Corner routes kills Cover 2. They have the personnel to get it done. My only question today is looking at the corners. And I know Evan's out of Louisiana Tech right up the road. I know he's a big, strong kid. I want to see these corners and see how they stop him at the line of scrimmage. If they take him out of their stride and slow down their timing on the quarterbacks, especially on Bledsoe, then I think New England's in trouble because I know Favre can move around. At least on paper, this could be an excellent matchup. Some great receiving tight ends. 8,000 yards passing these two quarterbacks. Ben Coates for New England, Mark Trimmer and Keith Jackson for the Green Bay Packers. Hey, folks, we are a little more than an hour from kickoff. Here's what's on tap for the rest of Fox Super Sunday. Today on Fox Super Sunday. So, we took you where no Super Bowl viewer has gone before. This has been a Fox News update. Once again, our previous Affleck trivia question. Which kickers hold the Super Bowl record for the most field goals in one game? Alright folks, how sharp were you? The answer is Don Chandler. Green Bay versus Oakland in 1968. And Ray Worshing, San Francisco versus Cincinnati. That in 82, four field goals apiece. As we thank Governor Tommy Thompson of Wisconsin. And a little later, we'll hear from Governor of Massachusetts, William Well. Bill Parcells on your left. Of course, head coach of the Patriots. Fritz Schermer on the right. The defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers. Bill Parcells was an assistant under Fritz Schermer many years ago. Alright folks, two full weeks of preparation can take its toll on the players, especially considering the intense media scrutiny. Well, we begin part three of the Super Bowl Diaries with some home movies shot by the players. You see the grass is in just great shape. Oh, the windchill about minus 25 today. Hey, why don't you watch yourself, baby? What's this, the pregame meal? Yeah, breakfast of champions. Brett Farr's pregame meal. Beautiful. Prediction? Packers, 106. New England, 2. Let's say 38.13. 38.13? Not bad. Packers, 50. Patriots, I-7. Ouch. It's time I'm walking to New Orleans. I'm walking to New Orleans. Only 12 teams have won the Super Bowl, and only 18 have played in it. You didn't know all this. I didn't know how to use it, though. Gotta go kickoff return, baby. That's my calling. Gotta go score some touchdowns. Mike's a little tight. Practice was a little intense for a Monday practice. I think he's probably going to be like that all week, so as players, we already expect that out of him. Even when we practice, you know the play, what play is coming, and you're like, okay, let me do this. And you're trying to anticipate, so it's kind of like a function of me being nervous and also anxious. You think about how exhilarating it may feel if you win, and you think about how low it may feel if you lose. That's the sickest thing I've ever put in my mouth. Hi, y'all smell. Hey, Brian. Look at you guys. This is what it's like, people on Media Day. Bill Parcells, he and the entire team feel really focused towards the goal. You know, you gotta try to, as a coach, tell them it's just another game. You don't want them to be so hyped up where they go out and make a bunch of mistakes and being nervous about the game. I thought they were loose. They were having fun. There was a sort of quiet confidence that made me feel very good about where they're at so far. If I was a tree, what kind of tree would I be? I'd be a palm tree. Big dog, come take a picture. Tiffany! Guys, come on, guys, we gotta go over here. Five days, five days in the county. I'm watching you guys dress. I'm gonna get me a couple of pair of them canvas pants about it right here. Turn my hat sideways. That's worth the price of admission. My biggest fear is probably not being prepared. I've gone over everything I could go over. I've looked at everything I could possibly look at to prepare myself for this game. When you start reading the Word of God, read back to what God has already said and you see how rich and how powerful it is. You see how beautiful it is. Alright, I'm here. I'm happy. Now I can get my bags and check in. What are we doing? How many tickets did we come down with? We came down with 500 seats to take care of last minute stuff with Claire's. The NFL called and they'd like if we have any extra tickets so we get it to them. I never thought we'd get to this point and now I can feel the excitement building. It's the biggest game in my life but of all of our lives. It's hard to sleep. You come up with 900 ideas. The Super Bowl even heightens that even more. Just get me to the game. Just tell me when we strap it up and I'm there. You get anxious. Stomach gets in knots. Biggest game I've ever had a pleasure being a part of. When I come out of that tunnel, it's just chaos. I just get goosebumps all over my body just thinking about it. I think I'll understand at that point the magnitude of the game. Kiss the kids goodbye and tell them I'll see them tomorrow at the game. All right? All right. I love you. Bye-bye. And once again we want to thank both the Patriots and the Packers and of course the folks at NFL Films for making the diaries possible and all the access that they gave us. And you know we heard Bruce Armstrong talk about almost thankfully only five days remaining. They've got these practices that I'm sure are pretty mundane. How important, Terry, is it to practice well leading up to this game? It's extremely important to practice well. The better you practice then you carry that into the game and your confidence level always soars. I only go back to my Super Bowl practices and folks, I don't know how we won them because I played pretty doggone. I had lousy practices. We put in this play. We ran it five times in practice and Chuck looked at me and he's shaking his head. I didn't complete it at all. They're getting close. We're going to do the football game against the Rams. Howie and Ronnie, third quarter, fourth quarter, third down. Chuck calls me to the side and says, 70 slot, hook and go. I went, whoa, wait a minute. We've been running all week, man. I have completed it all week. I went in and told the guys in the huddle, 70 slot, hook and go. And they looked at me like, have you lost your mind? 77 yards later. So practice is very important and you need it to build confidence. Hey, you're on planes though, right? Absolutely. Well, I'll tell you, you know, for us, we were underdogs like the New England Patriots coming down here that week. We took the same approach that the Patriots have taken. Bill Parcell, very physical in his philosophy in terms of practice. We had a very physical week of practice. We must have had six or seven fights break out. Matt Millen was on that team. He was probably in one or two of them. We had a very physical week. We had a chip on our shoulder. We were heavy underdogs. We couldn't wait to get to this game. We remained focused. And it seemed like we took it a little bit more serious than the Washington Redskins and we ended up victorious. Well, if you look at this game, you look at the Green Bay Packers, one of the things that you got to look at, it's a mirror image of the 49er practices. No pads, nothing where you had to have any contact. So one of the things that I was thinking in my mind was I had to hit somebody in the sweet spot. And I wanted to think about and think about. We'll have a chance to calm down first. I don't think he'll calm down first. I think he'll get excited first. It's going to be Graham at about the four. And Graham is taking a round, taking down around the 20. And let's look at that New England Patriot offense led by Drew Fletzell. Big, tall, very, very good arm. Those who will protect him, Armstrong, Roberts, Wobob, Todd Rucci and Max Lane. Those who handle the ball, Curtis Martin, Keith Byers, the backs, the wide receivers, Jefferson and Terry Glenn and tight end Ben Coates. We'll check out the Packer defense in a moment. Two-time Pro Bowl selection, Drew Fletzell. Packers come with a blitz on first carrier Martin. The ball carrier stopped by Brian Williams. Let's look at that strong Packer defense. Jones, Brown, Dotson and Reggie White up front, front four. Williams, Ron Cox in the middle and Wayne Simmons. Evans, Robinson, Butler and Newsom the secondary. It'll be second and ten. Martin stopped for no gain on the first. And Fletzell back to throw it. And open. It's Jefferson first down for the New England Patriots. And that's what they were talking about is getting Drew Fletzell comfortable. And there's no better way to start off comfortable than a good completion. Here's Sean Jefferson here. He's going to run up and then he's going to run in. It's a zone defense so he just comes under control. Fletzell hits him perfectly. But again, I talked about the line of scrimmage. And what's making him comfortable is good pass protection. Martin stopped at the line of scrimmage. No gain again on the first two rushes by the Patriots. They're really playing that line of scrimmage tough for that sweep. The first sweep that they ran, the cornerback, Greg Newsom, he came on a blitz. And they're getting their safety up there. Leroy Butler on first down. So what they're trying to do on first down the Packers is take away that strong side sweep of the Patriots. Second and ten passing down for Fletzell. Byers split wide to the left. They run a drawback play to Martin. He gets a couple. That's going to bring up third and about eight. See, I think that's one of the things that they're trying to do, Pat, here is to widen out. You see, you've got one, two, three, four wide receivers. And then all you have is a box here. Now, if there's just five guys in this box, then they want to run the ball. See, so that's exactly what they did. Spread them out to run the ball. Of course, it didn't work. Third and nine. They gave them a yard. So it's another passing down. They go with four wide receivers, including Fletzell. Intended for Megan. Incomplete. And the Patriots will have to punt. I still think that was a pretty good start for the Patriots. So they got a first down. They got the ball, you know, outside the 35 yard line, so they're going to have pretty good field position. And I think that getting a first down is not a great start, but it's not a bad start. So Tom Tupa back to punt for New England. They'll try to keep it away from the dangerous Desmond Howard. He has hurt a lot of people with punt returns this year. He kicked straight away. Howard's going to have a chance. And he's got some room. Desmond Howard with a good return. Up to the 45. Knocked out of bounds there by the punter, Tupa. You talk about offense and you talk about defense, but it can be special teams that can win big games, too. Special teams and turnovers. A 51 yard punt, a 32 yard return by Desmond Howard. Warning. Power grid failure. Oh, no. Get the Superdome and New Orleans. The Packers will take over after a good punt return. In fact, the third longest punt return in Super Bowl history. Thirty two yards by Desmond Howard goes quickly. That's Edgar Bennett. He got perhaps a yard. No more than that. Let's look at Farms Green Bay offense. What a year he had the most valuable player in the NFL, Brett Favre. In front of him, Worklisson, Taylor, Frank Winters, Adam Timmerman and Earl Dotson. Wilkerson in recent weeks has been outstanding. Bennett and Henderson, the runners, Antonio Freeman and Andre rise and wide. Mark Shimura, the tight end. Bennett, the lone setback. Two tight ends set up for the Packers and Favre back to throw his first one. Has a man open. Andre rise and does the dance and Favre got settled down in a hurry. That is the way to settle down. You know, sometimes you have to start with short passes. I always say when you got a strong arm guy and you want to settle him down and he's anxious, just show it. Throw a deep one. That's exactly what they did. Here's Andre rise and he's in the slot. He's going to come up against Otis Smith. He just makes a good quick move to the post, just runs right by him. Brett Favre throws a perfect pass. That was maximum pass protection. They had two tight ends in. They kept them both in. They had one guy that they were going to take the shot to is going to be Brett Favre to Andre rise. 54 yards from Favre to rise in the extra point by Chris Jackie is good in the Packers. Draw first blood. 54 yards from Favre to rise in. That'll settle you down. The post right here. Once they do, they have both tight ends blocking. That kind of brings the safety up. So Otis Smith has no help to the inside. But see now Andre rise and starts outside right there. He makes more boom right there and there's no one in the middle of the field because they kept two tight ends in. They went maximum protection. Brett Favre had time and threw a perfect strike. Andre rise and that play was set up as one of the plays that they were going to go to early because that was in the script. Here's the coach first of all that gets that touchdown Mike Holmgren of the Packers. Not only the coach it gets a touchdown but he's the coach that called the play that got the touchdown on the other side of the field. Bill Parcells let's see his reaction. Well I know the thing that he was he was worried about as he said I'm worried about them getting a big one. I'm worried about them getting deep on us. Lo and behold it happens right off the bat. And he also said if we do get behind if they do get a big one we can't be discouraged. He picked up a yard. That's all as the Packers reacted quickly. Yeah Pat we talked early about how one of the things you can look for early is who's controlling the line of scrimmages. And so far the Green Bay Packers are. I mean you looked at that that play on that on that touchdown and they had all kinds of protection and you watch the type of rush they have here. Gilbert Brown is dropping back. That's that zone blitz. And you say who's covering Curtis Martin. It's three hundred and fifty pounds Gilbert Brown. You're kind at three fifty. Packers by Doug Evans a one handed juggling interception by Doug Evans and the Packers get in good shape. The Packers are coming out here and they're going after and they aren't waiting around to see what's going to happen. I think Doug Evans really got a jump on that one. Watch Doug Evans he's going to be right here and it's going to be an out on his side. They bring him in but see how he starts to cover that. And then right there he takes the jump because at first he was behind the receiver and then when he jumps the ball he jumps right in front of the receiver. I tell you that is confidence. The ball is going to Terry Glenn. Doug Evans had good coverage on him and then jumped it. Fritz Schermer the defensive coordinator is saying that's the way to jump that out. First and 10 at the New England 28 yard line. Far back to throw it out of the pocket he comes and down he goes. Back at the 38 he lost him. Let's look at that New England defense. Things have been happening so fast we didn't have a chance to do that in front. Willie McGinnis Saga Politelli Mark Wheeler and Farrick Colins the linebackers Collins Johnson and Slade and the secondary Otis Smith Willie Clay lawyer Malloy and Ty Law. And of course Otis Smith he was the he was a guy that was covering Andre Ryzen on that touchdown pass but he had no help at all to the inside. No safety help at all. Second and 20 draw play Dorsey Evans gets the carry and gets about four yards inside the New England 35 yard line. Anytime you see number twenty seven in their scooter recruiter the pack the Patriots are in some kind of dime defense and you see him in there. Now they usually have they have five six and seven defensive backs. And here they are. See they have all the defense but one two three four five six seven they have seven defensive backs in on that last one and they'll probably be in the same type of defense now. Four wide receivers this time. Far screen pass to Levin. This is what killed Carolina a couple of weeks ago. Levin gets inside the 20 about a yard shy of a first down. You see where Brett Favre ended up here he is back there he was way down under 35 yard line. He gets back you know anytime you throw a screen pass you want to invite the pass rush and then you'll let your guy get out there and then you keep going deep. You see Brett Favre he just kept going and going going after he threw the ball to Dorsey Levin. Levin's has really become quite a threat in his packer offense in the last month or so. So Chris Jackie comes on from 37 yards out with Hendrick holding to try to put 10 points on the board for Green Bay. And he does. Green Bay 10. New England nothing. Call 1-888-LAXOTICA. Hello America. Ask him what is it like floating in space. What? Do you ever get a chance to sleep. It used to be that we just launched rockets into space. Today through distance learning MCI can launch entire schools. I mean I asked myself this question what are you doing way out here. You'll just have to wait for the Oscar Mayer Super Bowl halftime show. Super Bowl 31 at the New Orleans Superdome. Pat Summerall with John Madden. Craig Hendricks set to kick it off Dave Meggett back deep with Hassan Graham. They'd like Meggett to handle it. Shy of the 20 just a bit for his efforts. We see Bob Cratch number 61 Pat going in for the Patriots and going in a left guard for William Roberts and Bill Parcells told us that he was going to put Cratch in. So I mean Cratch of course was a starting right guard for the first four games and then hadn't gotten back into the starting lineup because of injury. But he says that he thinks he's going to need Cratch in this game to get some running going because to get running going they have to be able to block those two tackles. Gilbert Brown and Santana Dobson and they hope that they can tire Gilbert Brown out. He's intended for buyers deflected. Let's always saying how much he liked this field because it's flat. There's no crown here in the dome and watch what Santana Dotson here. That's the guy that we just said they put Bob Cratch into to help block on those two tackles and Bob Cratch went in and the guy that he was blocking was Santana Dotson. Santana Dotson was a guy that knocked the ball down. There's a guy that's really been a big help to the Packers throughout this year. Santana Dotson. Let's make it in motion and here is Bledsoe with the screen pass to Byers. Keith Byers. Midfield. And then the Packer territory tripped up finally by Doug Evans. That's what they needed a shot like that. You know you talk about old timers guys that have been around we say Reggie White needs a Super Bowl win. How about Keith Byers. He's here just as a fullback. Now this is a screen. You invite the rush to come and then you act like you're blocking. Then you get outside your line slides down. You get a couple of good blocks there and Keith Byers is like a two hundred and forty five pound guy. So when he gets in that open field against those defensive backs he is tough to bring down. Pretty nifty too. Here's Bledsoe to throw it. Throws it outside to Curtis Martin and Martin slips a couple of tackles and moves inside the Green Bay 30. Yeah we talked about confidence in a quarterback getting it. You get it with a couple of completions but here is the most important thing. Watch this pass protection. Boom boom boom. Everyone right there. You see the pocket that Bledsoe has. Now he can step up and throw the ball. He had time to look downfield. He had no one open. So he came off to Curtis Martin. But on that battle right there the offensive line of the Patriots won the line of scrimmage flight. Give Bledsoe time and he can throw it. Here's Bledsoe back. Rushed hard. Incomplete this time. Intended for Martin. I don't know if that was a screen pass or just in a hurry or what that was. I think I think it was a type of screen pass. They had run one earlier to the right and that's what they wanted to do is run it to Reggie White. This was going to be a screen pass. Yeah and he was throwing it to the left. He got a blitz by Doug Evans. And there's a flag on the play. Jerry Austin is the referee. This is his first Super Bowl. You know Reggie White just took himself out by number 61 of the offense. The penalty for that is lost or down. That's Bob Cratch who came in the game and of course it was a screen. So when you throw the screen now here's Cratch here. Now he's just out there blocking. It's not his fault. But the ball hit him right in the hip. I mean he's just going to block and block. He's a big old lineman. The screen didn't get out. The screen was to Curtis Martin. He didn't get out. He hit Cratch in the backside. Dave Wilkins has replaced Reggie White. And here's Bledsoe to throw quickly. And it's batted down by Dave Wilkins who just came in the game. Yeah Reggie's coming back in here. You know that big screen pass that they ran to Keith Byers. That was to run at Reggie. Here's Wilkins right here. Now he really doesn't rush up the field. He starts up the field. Then he just stops because he was getting cut. And instead of going down with a cut he stopped. Pushed the guy down. You see him push him down and then get his hands up. That was Ben Coates trying to block him or cut him. Dave Wilkins played that well. Yes he did. Third and ten. Patriots set the packer twenty seven. Bledsoe. Incomplete a flag on the play. Intended for Jefferson in the end zone. And a penalty flag in the end zone. That'll put the ball on the one yard line if that's pass interference. I'll tell you one thing about these wide receivers of the Patriots. Both Terry Glenn and Sean Jefferson. They have great speed. Not good speed. Great speed. And great endurance. That's interference. Number twenty one in the end zone. First and goal from the line. All again. Craig Newsom the offender. And you're going to see it in the end zone. I think he grabs his helmet. You see right there he's going up. You see puts his right hand on his helmet and his face mask. And right in front of Sean's Jefferson's eyes. First and goal at the one for New England. Bledsoe. Touchdown to Keith Byers. Bill Parcell said yesterday. Keith Byers is going to do some things in this game tomorrow. Because Keith Byers is the type of guy that can do a lot of things. He's a fullback. He can be a tight end. An H-back. A wide receiver. The big play on that was his screen pass. Watch his fake. They get down here in the goal line. This is what you call a run pass. You see they fake. They have a good run fake in there. No rush. Bledsoe has time. And he finds Keith Byers on the end line. Vinatieri for the extra point. It's ten seven. Green Bay. Not too much happiness on the Packer sideline. You didn't touch nothing did you son? No sir I did not. Dear Gussie. There's only one thing missing. Every last drop of Pepsi. Any ideas? Well I'm working on it. I think the fat one knows. Pepsi, generation next. How do Breathe Right strips relieve snoring? There's a satellite going around up there. The transmit radio signals. These tiny magnetic receptors. Kind of like a lightning rod. Stimulates the nasal passage and makes them open up. Not quite. It's springy plastic strips that pull open your nose so that your mouth can stay shut. Pretty complicated huh? Son could you move over a little bit. I think we're losing our signal. Breathe Right strips. Try it tonight for snoring. I wish that for just one day dad couldn't tell a lie. Is it good for you? I've had better. In the next 24 hours. Fletcher Reed will have to tell the truth. Even if it kills him. I can't lie. From Imagine Entertainment. What's that Fletcher? Your cholesterol. And the director of The Nutty Professor. Take them to Jess. Whatever it takes to focus off your head. Jim Carrey. Everybody's been real nice. That's because you have big. Liar, liar. This film is not get rated. Starts Friday, March 21st. Green Bay 10, New England 7, first quarter. A lot of people thought there were going to be a lot of points scored today. And of course the one that got it started was that screen pass to Keith Byers. That was for 32 yards. And of course the pass interference pass to Sean Jefferson. No one who got it started for Green Bay was Desmond Howard. On his first punt return. Let's see if he handles it this time. Indeed he does. That's a five. This time he has cut down from behind at about the 18 yard line. That's Terry Ray who is down. Here's the touchdown again. Now watch the effect of the play pass. It brings both of these guys in. Here's Keith Byers. He's going to come back here. The closest guy who really gave him trouble was this guy right here. The umpire almost got in the way. But see the play fake. You fake the run. Boom. The linebackers come up. Duck umpire. Duck. He finally did. And then Keith Byers gets it. Now remember the one to Sean Jefferson. Watch what they did to Reggie White. In essence they really triple teamed him. Rucci had him. Lane had him. They got him on his back. That was the side that they were throwing deep to. First and 10 Green Bay at the 18. There's a football player that Ted Johnson. I'm really impressed with him. I mean he's a guy that is a bright guy. A second year guy. And he just he just seems to know everything. I mean you just watch here. He's going to read read read. And the minute he sees that thing he's always working up feel. You see what he did to that blocker. He just exploded on the blocker. Knocked him into the running back. But I'm really impressed with this guy. I mean this guy this guy is going to be one of the best inside linebackers in football. Three wide receivers. 11 nudges over the right side and picked up a couple. Chris Slade again led the defense. And that's who they want to run at is Chris Slade because Chris Slade is a good up to field guy. He's a good pass rusher. And I think if he has any weakness it's being running a right at him. That's what the Packers are going to do. But he wasn't weak on that play. There's a there's a guy Robert Brooks remember when he was injured against the 49ers. Packers top receiver. Four wide receivers this time for the Packers. Levin is in the backfield. Incomplete almost intercepted by McGruder. Scooter McGruder was close on that one and that's a defense that we talked about at the package that the Patriots use they call that their dime defense. But they have in essence of seven defensive backs seven defensive backs. So they're going to have everyone double. Scooter McGruder was right there playing underneath got the jump on it and almost got the interception. Hendricks kick. The 42 yard line lost two on the return after a 39 yard punt. Bernardo Harris down to make the tackle. Two of the big plays on that Patriot drive were Keith Byers plays. That was the old bootleg throwback where they faked to the left and he bootlegs drew Bledsoe bootlegs to the right and he throws back to Curtis Martin. Bledsoe's dad was a coach. Now watch him. You get a fake here. You bring Bledsoe over here and then he's going to throw back across this way. So you fake it to that side bootleg to the right and then boom stop and throw it back to the left to the guy that you originally faked to two tight ends. A little bit shy of a first down. He needed three. Both of these teams script their first 15 plays and both of these teams were had their quarterback in mind when they scripted it. And you can see Bledsoe had four runs and 11 passes. Now here's the key passes under 10 yards. You have those 11 passes. Ten of them were under 10 yards. So they wanted to start Drew Bledsoe out with some passes to get that established. But shorter passes third and one. Bledsoe has gone for the bunch to Terry Glenn who's got it at the five. Eugene Robinson. We said that these wide receivers could run. We saw Sean Jefferson do it. Terry Glenn that time. Drew Bledsoe had so much time that Terry Glenn could start on the left side of the field have double coverage go all the way across the field. Look he's going all the way across the field. That's how much time Drew Bledsoe had to make a perfect throw to Terry Glenn. But again it all starts at the line of scrimmage because if Drew Bledsoe didn't have a good fake with the play fake didn't have this much time for Terry Glenn to do that then it wouldn't happen. And also all starts with that call on third and short. That's Bill Parcells it sure is. Coming into this game and I guarantee you right now Drew Bledsoe has confidence. Bill Parcells is pulling it all out. He's going for it. Again here another another bootleg. You're going to see him fake again to the left bootleg out here to the right. And here he finds Ben Coats gets him against the linebacker. Ron Cox was the guy covering him. Coats working on Cox makes Parcells happy. And a tear for the extra point. Tupa is the holder. And the Patriots lead at 14 to 10. How quickly things can turn around. Remember that that long pass to Terry Glenn. It all starts with pass protection but pass protection can be helped by a good fake. Watch this fake that Drew Bledsoe has right here. He fakes that ball to Martin. Then he even bends over and hides the football. And because look at the pass protection look at the time he has he had all day to throw it because Terry Glenn to run that far even though he is fast needed all day. Bledsoe with that six foot five or six inch body just doubled it all over the ball and hid the ball entirely. You know and I think that's part of having a dad as a head coach. He said he learned things like play fake and screen before he learned how to use a knife and fork. That's Ray Perkins down at the far end who's the offensive coordinator does the play calling. And that call remember was on third and less than a yard. And again it was a great play fake by Drew Bledsoe and by Curtis Martin. But again it was great great pass protection by that offensive line of the Patriots. Patriots lead at 14 10 as Desmond Howard. He's hit at the 25 and taken down there. The Patriots are excited. You can just feel momentum change. Yeah. This thing starts out and the Packers came out and they were all fired up. And early in the game Brett Favre hits a big one. Andre rise and it looks like they have everything going. And then it comes back and then the Patriots get this thing back. Again here's the here's a touchdown. You see the bootleg. He's coming over. Good pass protection. And they see he has plenty of time to find Ben Coates in the end zone. So the Packers take over at their own twenty five regular offensive set five on the play pass it was rise and that's that's an area that they're going to work on. Otis Smith over there on that side that right corner of the Patriots against Andre rise and he was wide open. Watch him. Otis Smith is up there but he doesn't get a bump. You see he goes to get a bump. Andre rise and gives him a little move and runs right by him. Whoa. They've Brett Favre had just thrown that ball to the inside. Andre rise and that would have been a touchdown. But that has to give Brett Favre some confidence on Andre rise to know that they're going to have Otis Smith out there all day. They better give all that Otis Smith some help. Now Ron Pitt says some information Ron. Well Pat after that last touchdown when the Green Bay Packers defense got to the sideline Rich Shermer the defensive coordinator immediately came over to him and said hey just relax play your game. We're OK. Now that sounded good but you know the Green Bay Packers on defense aren't used to be in this in this position that early. So let's see how they handle it. Pat you are so right. I think more than relax and no I think they got to forget about the run and rush the passer and not go for all those play fakes. Freeman was the man in motion and is taken down by the rush from the Patriots. That's Teddy Bruski. Bruski was there first and what they do is on passing downs when the Patriots go to a three man line they put in Bruski and Bruski is here now he can either be a linebacker and drop out or he can be a lineman to stay down. They don't know what he's going to do. That time he just rushes. He just goes right by Timmerman. I mean Timmerman boom and just pushed him right aside went right by him and Slade came from the other side and Hendrick is back to punt. The Packers have lost that momentum. This is a good kick. However, 57 yard punt 20 yard return. Today's Fox telecast will use 29 cameras including the eye and the sky aboard the Bud One airship. This Bud's for you. So that's what if you're not in here watching the game if you were outside like just flying around that's what it would look like to you. If you're watching the game from up here you would go well that's pretty good I guess. I have no idea what's going on inside. But it looks good. That's what it looks like from outside. Inside this is where all the action is. We're talking here now. Here's Bledsoe another play pass. Bledsoe just throws this one away. They were talking about the things that the that the Packer defense has to do is I think they have to stop going for the play fakes. I think they just have to rush Bledsoe and then maybe on the way if the Patriots start to run and maybe on the way to the Russian the passer then maybe just run into a run. But I think if they continue to go for play fakes and get caught and stopped on the line of scrimmage like this and to give Drew Bledsoe all day he's going to eat him up. Well Fritz Schermer said the first thing we got to do is stop the run. You can't be too concerned about that though. This is the 38 Patriots in their own territory. That'll bring up third and about four to what Fritz Schermer says as he tries to start every game where he just plays four man and hope that they can control the line of scrimmage and rush the passer. Then if they can't he'll add a fifth which is a blitzer. That doesn't work. He'll add two blitzers which is six. That doesn't work. He'll add seven. If that doesn't work he said he'll go to just a three man rush and cover with eight. Megan third and five is in the backfield behind Bledsoe. He comes straight back this time. For Jefferson has almost intercepted no flags no flags Tyrone Williams who's really starting to come on. There remember that interception that Tyrone Williams had in the in the championship game that one handed interception a day because Jefferson has a step on him. Bledsoe threw that ball a little short. Sean Jefferson runs a 4 3. I mean he'd be one of the fastest guys in football and when he runs like that you have to get it out there in front of him. He tries to make the first man he did it again but not the second as the Patriot coverage was good. Mike Bartram was down through Bledsoe in conversation saying I like the way things are going so far next Saturday the NHL on Fox the National Hockey League the Rangers against Philadelphia Wayne Gretzky in action and the rest of the schedule as the hockey puck replaces the football on Fox. Well we got a little more football here to go. Yes. I think it's going to be some great football because so far the Packers had the upper hand and then the Patriots took it away from them. And right now the Patriots have the upper hand and it'll be interesting if the Packers can take it back. Last play of the first quarter. The Dorsey Levin backhanded underhanded an Uncle Rube shot. That was as any any any time you start running to your left and you have to throw it you just throw it under him. That's a rubber. If you like scoring if you like offense we've had it all. We had a little running passing trick plays bootlegs long passes that had everything. Not much pass rush though. Second down and complete intended for Jackson and there is no flag. Keith's obviously thought there should have been one. Look at this Green Bay started off two plays right off the bat. Then they got their touchdown. That was Andre rising. Then they got an interception or turnover. They had four four plays and then you know they had their 10 points right off the bat. And then after that there was two three and outs and now they're on their third one and their third one on third down third and six four wide receivers for the Packers. That's that same defense Pat. That's that dime defense where the where the Patriots put in Teddy Bruce Key real defensive lineman and seven defensive back. They have Slade coming from one side Jones up the middle McGinnis from the other side. But look at all those defensive backs back there. Back to punt is Hendrick and Dave Megan. This one slides off the side of his foot. Megan has to let it bounce. It takes a Patriot bounce and then a Green Bay bounce. The Packers had average one hundred and seventy yards rushing per game in the playoffs. And this one so far only five thirty super domes sold out. As you would expect for Super Bowl number 31. The New England Patriots leading Mike Holmgren's Packers 14 10. You know Drew Bledsoe was in the huddle and he just there's Drew Bledsoe right here. He just ran over to the sideline. Talk to his coaches and then came back in. I'm not sure when the time clock started but he does have 20 seconds on the play clock. So he's OK. First and 10 Patriots from their own 42. And Bledsoe back to throw. And throws it away. Reggie White. In pursuit along with Wayne Simmons. Here's what Bledsoe has done so far. And again if you look at all the successful passes they all start with play fakes. Excellent play fake and then after the play fake he's also getting excellent pass protection. But every one of these successful plays had started with a play fake where he fakes the run and then comes out and makes a pass. And he hides the ball so well. That's because his dad was a coach. He said he learned that. Learn how to do that before he could eat cereal. That really is still his go to guy. When nobody else is open he'll throw it in coach's direction. And here's the guy that they have to block if they're going to throw it to Reggie. I mean if they're going to throw it to coach you see what Reggie can do. You see Max Lane got there and he wasn't ready for him. So if you don't do that what Reggie White just did to Max Lane there was what he calls a bull run. You better get ready. If you're back if he looks and you're in your heels he's just going to get underneath and just drive you right back into the quarterback with his bull rush. So wide receivers. Reggie took the inside path. Letzo is hit just as he lets it go. A blitz from the other side by Doug Evans off the corner. Yeah well that's what Frick Schermer said. He wasn't getting there with his four. So what you start doing here's Reggie. He's going to take it inside. Then you're going to see the blitz coming from the outside by Doug Evans. See Reggie White. He takes the inside. That's the right side. Watch the back side. See it was Doug Evans. The minute that Blutso saw him he knew he had to get rid of the ball. He was out there like he was going to cover Terry Glenn. And then he just took off and he was at Drew Blutso's backside or blind side. Tupa back to punt. Good kick. Didn't miss again. Desmond Howard after the opening return which was a dandy 30. Back at Super Bowl 31. Green Bay 17. New England 14. Antonio Freeman got on Lawyer Malloy. Lawyer Malloy has a strong safety. And he got because Antonio Freeman was in the slot he had to play a man to man. Antonio Freeman got by him and ran right by him. And the free safety Willie Clay never did get over there. As we said that 81 yard touchdown that's the longest in Super Bowl history by a yard. That's Dave Megan. Megan gets out to about the 24. John. Watch as here's Antonio Freeman. Here's Lawyer Malloy. Here's Willie Clay. He should be the help. He should get over there. He gets right by him and runs right by Malloy on the line of scrimmage right there. You see it there. And then Clay right back here doesn't get over and Brett Farr throws a perfect strike. And Antonio Freeman separates. Right. And they were having trouble throwing on second and third down. So what they did is they started throwing on first down. That's what Bill Parcells installed. You know that we've got to watch out for those deep ones on first down. And if you're going to get up there you got to bump them. That's Terry Glenn. Here Malloy is one of those guys that came out of college and in college he was a like a linebacker. You know a blitzer. And you know he knew how to play press coverage and he knew how to play tight coverage and he knew how to blitz. But he really wasn't good on the deep coverage. That time he wasn't good on the tight coverage because he got up there on Antonio Freeman and he didn't even hit him or touch him. He just whipped out. That's Curtis Martin who hammers it up just enough for the first down past the 35 yard line. The big old 93 there. Gilbert Brown weighs 350 pounds and you're going to run up the middle. Oh you're kind to him I think. Well 370 pounds then. I mean he gets a couple of those triples in him and he's tough to move. Oh boy. And they're going to run right at him. And you think how in the heck can they do that. Here he is right here and you have to move that pile in order to run. Well you start off by double teaming it and you just get a little push. Here's Bledsoe on the play fake again. All kinds of time he finally throws it away. As Reggie White finally broke into his face. But that's good protection. And what happens they had good coverage downfield because they were trying to get Sean Jefferson deep all the way across that time. He was the only guy deep and the Packers down there had three guys on him. So here's what they're trying to do. They get Sean Jefferson a bump here. Now watch at the end. That's who he's trying to throw to. He's looking for Sean Jefferson. And right there by that time the ball is gone. Second and can. Coach comes in motion. And they wrap him up after he picked up a couple. Patriots at their own thirty seven yard line. Thirty eight perhaps. And so far this has kind of been a passing game. Yeah. A combined yardage has been a passing has been two hundred and seventy eight yards and 16 yards running. So the first half of this game is a passing game. Well it's artificial turf. It's a controlled atmosphere indoors and you have Drew Bledsoe and Brett Farr. And here's Bledsoe back to throwing. He goes from behind. Off the corner Leroy Butler. That was the thing we said that you know Fritz Schermer the defensive coordinator was having trouble with his regular pass rush. So he starts bringing guys. Here's Leroy Butler there. He comes up to the outside. You see he just runs right over Dave Megan. That's the thing that people try to do to Dave Megan. They want to get him out as a third down pass receiver. But then they blitz and make him a blocker. Butler rush the passer like a lineman. Well when he saw Dave Megan there he knew he had a physical mismatch. Two plus kick by Howard at the 19 he's got some room. Desmond Howard into New England territory. No flags and the Packers will take over at the Patriot. Forty seven fifty one yard punt at thirty four yard return. I'll tell you Desmond Howard has great confidence now. Terry Ray at the end makes a super tackle here or this is a touchdown. So where do you want this. Hey now I ordered a new copier. This is better than new my friend. Allow me to demonstrate. Oh what do we have here. Wow. Enlarges too. Even coalesce. For the great taste that won't fill you up and never let you down. Make it a Bud Light. That was close. I didn't think I could shove this baby through. What's in the package. Hey anytime is a good time for new bite sized Tostitos tortilla chips and ultimate garden salsa. Now what am I going to send my mommy. Why don't you send yourself. Really. Tostitos. Now's a good time. You next enjoy the other white meat. Presenting a rack of pork. Skirt pork kebabs and America's cut pork chops. Bring the royal taster. Pork. The other white meat. Taste what's next. If you don't think Melrose Place in February is the sexiest. I would just like us to be more intimately involved. The wildest. The nastiest it's ever been. You should really see a doctor. Melrose Place. Mondays at 8 7 Central on Nonstop Fox. Second quarter. Green Bay 17. Brett Favre five out of nine. Two touchdowns. One hundred and fifty eight yards. Most of it on two completions. Well in first down play. Remember the last time they got that. Antonio Freeman that was a pass on first down. I wouldn't be surprised if they passed again on first down right here. Neither team able to get much going on. On the ground. Now and especially on first down. You know we showed that graphic where the the Packers were minus one point eight on first down because they're really ganging up against the run on first down and that's the best time to pass because the Packers had fallen into that thing where the Patriots would play good first down defense and then they'd play nickel on second and dime on third and they really couldn't solve that. So they started throwing on first down which I thought was an excellent idea. Second and nine. Bennett and Henderson the runners. And here's Fogg throwing on second. You think. Coaches can sometimes get hung up on. I know they always say to us we've got to establish the run. You think you can get hung up on that. Yeah I think you can and just stay with it too long but you don't want to become one dimensional. But when you have an Andre rising on one side and the Antonio Freeman on the other side and they can run free like this just run where you get behind the linebackers and in front of the secondary you might as well just do that all day. I'll tell you one thing. We talked with Andre Ryzen the other day and he is one happy football player. Misread between Ryzen and Favre. I think that's where one where Favre just had a chance to just throw the ball out of the ball yard. Remember he says high school he used to do that. He said he'd be at the outfield. He would just throw the ball as hard as he could. Andre Ryzen caught the pass Antonio Freeman saying hey I was that was not a pick. Well he didn't want to pick but he what he was doing is he didn't want to click because Andre Ryzen was coming across towards and that's why you want to stay with the run just to have it there enough so that they have to play the run because if you become one dimensional and they start pass rushing all the time then you don't have a chance. So you get them you get them to pass rush and then you run the trap and you give the ball to Dorsey Levens who's who's one of the hottest players in football. There's only two teams in football right now. That's over the last month. I mean Dorsey Levens has become one of the biggest threats on this team. One of the reasons they're here is because he's so hot. First down Green Bay at the New England 12 and tie law. He's a corner on that side too. So that's that's one thing that this Patriot defense has is is is they have good tacklers back there. Law and Malloy and Clay and Otis Smith they all tackle pretty well. The trouble they have it looks like is with speed that you can you may not be able to run over and run through them but you can run by them. Malloy and law two players two young players at Bill Parcells. Well he had Chris Slade on him and Chris Slade made him throw that pass low. You know we talked about a screen pass how you you kind of let the rusher come and you you invite him but watch Slade right here number 53 Earl Dotson doesn't get enough of him and then Brett Favre has to throw that ball over Slade and that's where he had the problem. He was throwing the screen to the right and if you're going to throw to that side you better get that guy's hands down. You have to cut him to throw a screen to his side. 13 13 year old for the ball. The Packers want time out. Mike Holmer is trying to get time out. He didn't get it. That was interesting. Pat I was watching Mike Holgeron on the sideline before that play and he was trying to get a timeout. He didn't want to run that third down play as it would have been interesting had it been a touchdown. Let's see if we can see it here. You see his signaling. You see he's signaling time out there. He wanted to time out. He's watching the clock. He didn't get the time out. And now of course he got an incomplete pass and now he has to go for the field ball. A lot of fireworks. Yeah. Thirty four points of fireworks and Drew Bledsoe looks like he's getting ready to go again. Again. And he's had all that success. We showed all his success and it's been with those play action passes where he fakes a run and throws a pass or where he fakes a run and bootlegs in other direction. Eight plays thirty three yards a thirty one yard field goal by Chris Jackie. Mike Holgeron as you said tried to call a timeout and just couldn't get it wound up with three points. Yeah we talk about the players in this game and the quarterbacks in this game and the an alignment. But I'll tell you we also have two of the best coaches the best coaches in the game today. But I think in and Bill Parcells who's already won two Super Bowls and Mike Holmgren on the Packers side I think to his taken down by Bernardo Harris. These shots from the Bud one airship which also covered a game earlier today. But why is your beat. But like twenty seven twenty four in the but bowl of ninety seven twenty seven twenty four high scoring but bowl high scoring Super Bowl. You know and this can continue to be high scoring as long as you don't get separation. I think if you start getting separation where one team starts getting way ahead by more than two touchdowns then I think they go into conservative mode. I think the other team goes into a press mode. First down. Let's go up the middle. Three. Eugene Robinson. Well he did. But so throw that ball. He looked like Dan Marino on that one. He just had that thing up there and whipped it in there and Ben coaches pulled it right out of the air. I mean that was something to look like the way you're supposed to do it. That was almost perfect pass there. I mean he got he got back. He set up and he whipped that thing and coaches went and just took it right out of the air. That was a good looking play. First and ten at the forty four Patriots in their own territory. But again it's been success on first down for both teams. Let's go has hit it. They try to hit buyers but from around the corner came Butler. And that's the same same area that they had problems with Butler from before. He's coming from that back side of blood. So you see him right there and see blood. So as looking to the right looking to the right and Leroy Butler hits him right in the back. That's the third time that Butler has come from that position and successfully second and ten Patriots at their own forty four yard line. Packers since they started to blitz let's no problem. No blitz this time the Packers back to the twenty six scuffle breaks out for a moment with the interception shuts down blood. So in the Patriots you see what blood. So did he was faking to the right. Then he was going to bring it back to the left but he had a puppet one more time. He was trying to get it deep to Sean Jefferson. He was leading Jefferson but he let it right into prior. But that wasn't where he was going to go with the ball the first time he wanted to go to the right. That good coverage out there to the right. And he had to come back to the left. And really when he came back to the left didn't take a good look at it. So the Packers take over. And don't forget that story the turnovers in a game of this magnitude they are always big and the Patriots have turned it over twice. Yesterday when we were talking to Bill Parcells he says if we don't get any turnovers we're not going to win and they still have plenty of time to play to get turnovers. I don't know why players do that. I know what Keith Jackson is trying to do the way they spot the ball is is when your knee goes down it's not where your knee goes down it's where the ball is when your knee goes down. So what players try and do is they try and reach out as far as they can. But then they don't have any strength and that ball gets knocked out of there a lot. That's a very dangerous thing. So many times you see that happen and what he was trying to do he was successful in. He was trying to stretch to get a first down which he did but he almost lost the ball. And Ted Johnson was there too. Both Johnson and Collins. The other thing is is just watch Ted Johnson here. I mean I mean he's he's the type of guy said he always takes on with his right shoulder and then and then he just throws his body at that at that runner and he has he has one of the biggest necks that I've ever seen. I mean he doesn't have a big head and he doesn't have you know big shoulders and stuff but his neck his neck is size 20. Doesn't matter which shoulder he takes it all with. He says he does everything with his right shoulder. That's why he just has the band on his right arm. Five thirty one left to play in the first half. Green Bay leading twenty fourteen. Jerry Austin indicates first down Green Bay. Otis Smith the offender. We see Otis Smith right here playing the slant. See Antonio Freeman starts to the outside. Then he goes inside and instead of seeing if Otis Smith were to put his left foot up there he wouldn't have to put his left hand up there. Well we got his left foot back. He had to put his left hand up there. Mike Holman looks like kind of saw that the whole way didn't he. That's what they do on first down here. It was interesting. He was trying to go. He was trying to go out here to Andre Ryza. He wanted to look. He was looking at Andre Ryza out on the left side and he came back to Antonio Freeman. Here's Freeman and he's going to come across the field. He's going to come up then he's going to turn in and see Brett Favre and then Brett Favre is going to hit him right there. He was his second receiver. He was looking first to the left to Andre Ryza. Here's here's the one that he was trying to hit Andre Ryza against Otis Smith. You see what happened. He had that plus he had helped deep first down at the Patriot thirty four eleven hammers down inside the twenty five. You see on that sweep. You know they always talk about a running back and how he has to have patience. Levin's had patience on that play. He's going to start on a sweep. I watched Brett Favre after he hands off. He's going to go and he's going to make a jump fake. But watch Levin's right here. He has patience patience but and then right when he sees it he turns that thing up in there. You don't just slash and run right at it. You come out. You let your guards get out there. You have patience to wait for them. Then after they get out there and make their commitment then you hit it. Second and one. That was the old familiar Green Bay sweep. Just different people inside the twenty first down Green Bay. Now they're starting to run it a little bit. You know defensive players love it when their offense runs the ball because that means that the offense is controlling it and the defensive guys get to get a little rest. The worst thing for a defensive player is three and out offensively. They're often the Packers two opportunities inside the red zone inside the 20 about the line of scrimmage. Maybe a yard before Otis Smith came up to make the stop. The Packers are doing a lot of things changing in. Don Beebe was in that time. Andre rising comes out. They're going one tight end two tight ends. Now they're putting Bibi back in and I would expect that this would be a three wide receiver formation. That's one thing about Mike Holmgren who calls the plays. He gives you a lot of different looks and this is a three wide receiver. Out of bounds at about the ten yard line maybe a yard shy of the first knocked out by Ty Law. You can tell the frustration and Bill Parcells now because he wants that ball back. But they they had good blocking on that right side that time. This is a coach here who wants to get the ball back and what he's saying you see is when you run and you're running a sweep to the outside you have to get forced to the upside to outside decide to run and do. And he had no force on that play far headed over to the sideline. We're going to get the two and a warning as Green Bay leads it 20 to 14 a red hot first half by both teams. Brett Farms hometown about 60 miles from here. And I think all kill Mississippi Packer backers. I don't think there's just a few from good. I mean everyone if you're from kill Mississippi you're a packer backer and you're a far backer. That's not a bad deal. And you can be a cheesehead from kill and you can be like a half and half. Yes you could. If you chose to have you had to say are there more are there more Packer fans here or Patriot fans here. Which would you get. I'd say Packer sounds like it. Although based on the noise outside the room last night Dorsey Levens in the last couple of weeks the last couple of games has really developed into a force and you're going to see him here. Just come out and just take the ball out there. You see he's going to have a lead block. He gets the lead in the four hole bounces it out gets a good block there for Mark Shamura and then just turns it up the field. But when you have a good blocking tight end like number 89 or Shamura who on that play gets to you can always get a soft corner on the strong side or the side of your tight end. Now the Packers want to take their time here to score this touchdown from the two first and goal. One official said he did get in. Yes he thinks he did. Remember where the ball is. And it looked like the ball was inside the pylon and did break the plane and the pylons in the end zone out of bounds. But the ball was inside and we talked about players stretching to get that ball put that ball where it's going to be. That time Brett Favre stretched it into the end zone. Mark Shamura there who made the good block on that play before has a tattoo the Superman tattoo. He's been blocking like Superman. Jackie for the extra point right down the middle. Green Bay twenty seven. New England fourteen. We're just talking about Brett Favre and kill Mississippi and this is the way they do. Remember it's a goal line there and the ball has to break the plane. You see him reach out and here's the ball right here and it has to break the plane of the goal line. This officials right there he sees it. He calls it a touchdown. The pylon is already down. The pylon is out of bounds. His knee is out of bounds there. But he got the ball in the corner of the end zone. Right. It's where the ball is where his knee goes down. And there's Favre right there. He knew it. He said that's a touchdown. That's my kid. He was his high school coach and he said that's what he taught him. Anytime I run with the ball. He said that's what I learned from my dad said because we used a split T and a wishbone in high school and he said he was a running quarterback there. So he said he tells his dad anytime that he runs with a ball and does anything running. He said that's for him. That's what he taught him. The passing part. Not so much. The passing part. Who takes credit for that. I'd give that to Mike Holmgren. He does that pretty well too. This is Dave Megan out of the end zone. Megan has cut down at about the twenty two. Don't forget to stick around at the half for the Oscar Mayer halftime coming up. J.B. Terry Howie and Ronnie. Of course the halftime entertainment the Blues Brothers ZZ top and the godfather of soul. James Brown and his James Brown. Maybe at the end of that line. That's what they're doing. There's James Brown right there. There's two. Drew Bledsoe has found something there. Remember the last time the Patriots had the ball. They hit Ben Coates right in that middle right in that same area. Now if they can keep their pass protection they can do that all the time because that's an area that they found open that they can do some work there. Let's watch Ben Coates. He's right here and he's going to come up and here's the area that he wants to get to and he's going to work in this middle. You see the Packers are in a zone and that's what you try and do with your tight end is work the middle. You see he gets a bump there pushes off. But look how open that middle is once he gets by the original bump of Leroy Butler. You see now watch he's going to get bumped right there by Butler. He pushes Butler off and watch how open that whole area. I mean there's a 10 yard hole in there after he gets by Butler that they can do some business in there. Got a first down its first and 10 58 seconds left to play in the first half. The Patriots have two timeouts left and right now Bill Parcells is looking for a whole lot of places he can do some business. Three man front for Green Bay. Patriots will get another first down to Terry Glenn or close to it right at midfield. Eugene Robinson made a stop. Bledsoe said let's hurry. It is a first down Patriots still have two timeouts right. They're going to have to use one of their timeouts now. And the first thing they have to think about is get about 15 yards to get in field goal range. That was Butler who made the defensive play. That's the first thing that you want to do is you'd like to score a touchdown here. But you think first things first. So you need 15 more yards to get in field goal range. Then after you get your 15 yards then you try and get closer and then you go for the end zone. You don't have to go for the end zone or the touchdown until you get in field goal range. Adam Venatieri has hit from 50 yards. Thirty five seconds left. New England has one timeout remaining. They'd like to save it if they can get close enough for their kicker. Well one thing about a Fritz Schermer defense when they get in these situations he will go to a three man line play a soft zone. So you don't get a big pass rush here but you have to throw against him. That's what they're doing now. Vincent Frisbee he gets out of bounds and that stops the clock with 30 seconds left in the first half. I mean the Packers really won that one in the first and second they completed the Patriots completed two passes but they still have third and three. Now they have to complete another one. Now instead of thinking field goal right now they have to think first down get out of bounds. They'll go on a three man run. And right now I think the Patriots have to go fourth down. I think that they'll go for it on fourth down again and see if they had some timeouts left. They could have run the ball twice here to get a first down. But now I think they have to go again they're only fourth and two or three. So we're talking about a pass that will get them about three yards is what they need right here. Obviously too far for a Benetti area field goal it would be 60 yards. They better watch out because that play clocks down to 10 seconds. Fritz Scherber knew who they were going to. He knew that on fourth down. Remember Bill Parcells did that a big fourth down where where he went to Ben Coats he was trying to do it again there. I think if you had to guess they needed that fourth fourth down they needed to get the first down and the guy to do it was going to be Ben Coats. And Fritz Scherber knew that now ourselves to it. Now Mike Holmgren's got 19 seconds in all of his timeouts and now he can go for it. But look what they did to Ben Coats. You see that LeRoy Butler has him here and he just grabs him. And then the inside guy comes and hits him. Now they'll probably just sit on it clocked down to 14 seconds as far of a sack. Yeah it looks like it looks like in fact I just saw Mike Holmgren just took his headset off. So that means he's going to let this clock run out and just take his team in inside and say 27 14. That's pretty good when you're playing for the world championship. Indeed it is. What a halftime show coming up. Get ready. That's our set that the guys are in. They're pumping it up. Look at this. Yeah it's rising here. They squeeze that thing down so the people can see. And then it's hydraulic and they just pump it up. And then and then all of a sudden boom. Then the guys come in. You see him sitting down here. Look they're sitting down there. They just pump the thing up. The guys sit in there and they're ready to do a halftime show. That's the end of the first half with the score Green Bay 27. New England 14 coming up the Oscar Mayer halftime with J.B. Terry. Howie and Ronnie all pumped up. Then it's the Oscar Mayer halftime show featuring the Blues brothers ZZ Top and James Brown. All coming up after these messages. Green Bay Pack is leading along with Ronnie, Howie and Terry. I'm James Brown. And boy talk about a surprising first half. Well, legends all involved in the pregame coin toss there. Major names. Boy look at the first quarter. Right off the bat. Two tight ends set. Single coverage. Slider. Seeger. Andre Wrightson. He's used to this turf. Remember all the great years in Atlanta. 54 yard touchdown. Favre off to a fast start. Back comes. You got it. Terry Glenn. What did Howie and Ronnie say? Speed kills. Go deep early. He does that. Now. Bledsoe out. Play action. Did it early in the first half. To Reggie Whiteside. Ben Coates back in the end zone. 10-7 at this point. Green Bay. Then Favre back. This 81 yarder. Once again great adjustment by offensive coordinator Sherm Lewis and the Green Bay Packers. 81 yard. Antonio Freeman. Longest pass completion for a touchdown in Super Bowl history. The pack of 14 to 10. Now Favre back. Todd Collins drops deep. Favre sees it. If you can't throw it and the linebackers are deep, run it in. Ball breaks the plane. That's all that has to happen. Body can be outside. 27-14. Green Bay over the patch. And don't forget, Green Bay Packers and New England. Two high storm teams in the NFL. And right now Green Bay only one point off of its average for the season of 28 points. And we take a look at the first half. What was happening with the second doors or what was taking place as far as the Patriots were concerned defensively? I think if you look at the Patriots, one of the things they were having a problem with is that their linebackers were trying to take away the run. So what did Green Bay do? They started running crossing patterns. Getting the ball to Andre Rising. Getting the ball to their receivers in the middle of the field. Now you loosen them up. Now you're running the football. Dorsey Levens is running on the outside. Taking away the linebackers situation. And another thing that I like about this game right now is that you've got to get Keith Byers back in the game. Yeah, they're starting to run with Levens. All of a sudden he's got 51 yards in the first half running the ball. They're bringing Butler off the corner on blitzes out of the slot. One sack, two hits on Bledsoe. I'll tell you, that's the key to this game. How can Bledsoe hold up in the second half coming from behind? In the previous Super Bowl games there have been eight comebacks. None by more than seven points. It's going to be tough for them to pull it off. Yeah, in this game, look for Green Bay though with his charge. Does Mike Holmgren go to the run? In the second half, after he has big leads, he goes to the run. They've been running away from blitzes. I think they should stay with five throwing the football. And the underscore with how we say it again, New England will have to create history because no team has been down by more than a touchdown at the half in Super Bowl history. Simpsons Tights at 5.30 and 6 on Fox 31 Green Bay leading 27-14 at the half Pat Summerall with John Madden And John, we expected we might have a shootout But I don't think we expected that much And that's exactly what it's been But there's been three momentum changes here I mean, the Packers came out, they went boom, and they got 10 points And then the Patriots came back, and then they got their 14 points And then the Packers got the momentum again Now, I think if the Patriots are going to stay in this game And not get a large separation here They have to take the momentum back for the second time And the Packers have been able to strike quickly Yeah, right off the bat Remember this first one here Andre Ryzen, he just runs a post And he goes right by Otis Smith And then the second one here, lawyer Malloy is up there And Antonio Freeman, he makes a little move on him, gets by him The free safety, Willie Clay doesn't get over And if you do that to Antonio Freeman with Brett Favre They're going to make some big plays happen Halftime statistics, the Packers started a run Just a little bit right before the half 51 yards on the ground Passing yards, pretty much even Here's the thing I think, you know, is the Patriots only being able to run For 14 yards, they have to get a little running in so they can play passes And then this other thing, this is the thing that's killing them Look, they had two turnovers and those two turnovers went to 10 points for the Packers And they lead by 13 Quick striking, the average time of possession for Green Bay and New England Two minutes and 35 seconds The Packers will be on offense first in the second half And this is Desmond Howard Couple of outstanding returns in the first half And Howard out of bounds at about the 24 Where Green Bay will take over You know, we talked about momentum How Green Bay had it initially And then New England took it away from them Then Green Bay got it back and now New England Again, if they're going to stay in the game, they have to get it back here And they have to start right here with their defense And the way that they started it in the first part of the game was Stopping them on first down, getting them in second and third and long Then playing that dime defense And then Green Bay started to throw on first down And I wouldn't be surprised if Mike Holmgren looked at that And made that same adjustment and started to throw on first down again There's Favre Favre's roommate for about seven And that's the way to do it, you know, I mean to come out there and throw on first down And get, you know, five or six yards Because if you look how they did on their passing distance from 0 to 5 The real short yard, they were three out of five Six to ten, one out of one, 11 to 15 yards, one out of four And then they said they were going to take their strikes And they did, three out of five, for 157 yards They need two for a first Packers at their own 32 And Edgar Bennett Finds a hole outside, gets a packer first down outside their own 40 stop by Malloy You know who's a tricky blocker is Frank Winters, the center for the Packers He never gets a lot of credit, you don't talk about him a lot But he's one of those guys, watch him right here How he'll get into his guy, get him turned, the ball's coming out here But he always, he has all the tricks I mean, see him get in there, boom, boom, boom Let the guy penetrate and then turn him or just as a running back gets there He gets in some odd positions, but it turns out being effective There's five on first To Henderson Who gets outside the 45, about the 46 and a half Ted Johnson brought him down I always thought that Mike Coleman was one of the best second half coaches I agree Going in, making adjustments, coming out in the second half And you can see two first downs they've had in the second half And they've passed both of them Because when he tried the other way, that didn't work and he knows that as well as anyone There are some coaches, John, who just can't do that They can't adjust at the half And there are some coaches who are good coaches who are not just good game coaches Mike Coleman is a good game coach Bill Parcells is a good game coach They know how to play the game Then Barb gives to Henderson again And he's up to about the 40 Well, now they're still checking the goalpost Yeah, they were checking the height of it Remember Antonio Freeman? He scored down there I don't know if he bent that goalpost or not But they checked the height of it, but they also checked it at straight And that looked like a little out of kilter to someone Well, there was a lot of noise at the half Maybe it got rocking And look at the smoke is still in here There's a lot of pyro stuff Maybe the pyro pumped it out Third and short Barb on third and short Again, first down, Green Bay In the first half, it looked like Brett Favre was going to his running backs And to his wide receivers And now in the second half, one of the other adjustments they make Is to start to get the tight end in the passing game Let's go back and look at what you were talking about with Antonio Freeman Yeah, remember he jumped up and he hit the goalpost there Now that could have knocked it out of straight He looked like he hit it hard enough Well, yeah, but it just bent it a little maybe He does have a big cast on his arm He has that plate in his arm First down, that's Dorsey Levens And he got maybe a yard You know, that's getting ready, excuse me And he knows that he has to get that momentum back Now, that's the first time in this second half that the Packers ran on first down Now, the Patriots are starting to get them in situations they want Second and long And then they can go and nickel and then hope they can stop him here And then go to that dime defense That has really given the Packers some problems Second and nine They come with five down linemen this time But one of them's a linebacker, he'll back out No, he comes, Slade He wheels it to Henderson And Henderson, a yard shy on the first down The ball comes down, but he was down William against Yeah, that's their form of a zone blitz William against is the right end And what he does is he drop out See, here's McInnis right here And he starts out, then he drops out Now, on the other side, they're blitzing So they overload the left side away from William McInnis And then William McInnis, he starts like he's going to be a pass rusher And then he drops out So that's their form of a zone blitz Didn't do any good though, did it? Nope Third and short The drive coming And with that last lunge I think he got the first down Bill Parcells is hoping for a spot here because we talked about momentum He knows that his team has to get it back The Packers know that they can't give it up And every inch like this in the short yardage is a big deal Where they put the ball down, he didn't get the first down Where they marked it I thought with the last little backward lunge by Levens, he got it And I would think if they don't get it here I wouldn't be surprised if the Packers would go for it And if they do go for it I wouldn't be surprised if it's a quarterback sneak Because Brett Favre is a good quarterback sneaker He says what he does on the quarterback sneak is he looks for the sweet spot Frank Winters, the center, will tell him which way to go Now, in the last game, we'd see Frank Winters give him a signal He would tap the right side or the left side which way to go This is one time you'd like to be a good sneaker But the ball is given to Levens And he doesn't get anywhere near the line of scrimmage stopped by Ted Johnson And the best play that they have they didn't use And they went to the other one and they played right into the Packers defense They needed a momentum changer and the Patriot defense gets it for them Brought to you by Pepsi who invites you to join Generation Next By Fila, change the game By Taco Bell where you can play the feel the force game And by brewery Fresh Budweiser who reminds you fresh beer tastes better The Crescent City of New Orleans and Super Bowl XXXI You know, here's what I always liked about Ted Johnson, Pat, that he plays up the field Now watch, he's the guy that gets the penetration there that stops Dorsey Levens You see him get the penetration right there And that is a big, big play for the Patriots First and 10, New England at their own 44 Bledsoe back to throw it on first down Sean Jefferson makes the catch Defended by Evans I was watching Leroy Butler and he was between Drew Bledsoe and Sean Jefferson And Bledsoe threw it right over Butler's head See if we can see it in this picture here Here's Sean Jefferson, he just stops in the hook And Leroy Butler was between him and Bledsoe And it looked like he was in position where he could pick it off Watch him go up, well in fact it did hit his hand I thought so, because I was watching, I thought maybe he was going to intercept it That's OK, pass complete to Byers Byers didn't see Brian Williams there, did he? Byers caught that ball, but that's what you have to do If you're going to catch the ball inside there, you're going to get hit anyway So there's no need to look So he was looking at the ball, concentrating the ball Oh, Brian Williams gave him one in there Notice that all the players, excuse me John, are wearing an emblem on their helmets With the word, with the name Pete, in honor of the late Pete Rozell There's Bledsoe And again, I think deflected, intended for coach And again, Leroy Butler was in there, so he's been deflecting a lot of them And there's that Pete you were talking about, of course, for Pete Rozell And I've always felt that Pete Rozell was not only the best commissioner that football ever had But the best commissioner that any sport ever had I think that every Super Bowl is really a tribute and a legacy to Pete Rozell Yeah, he can wear that emblem every game really Third down, Bledsoe to throw, they pick up Butler Bledsoe for Jefferson, just over and out of his reach That was pretty good is that Tyrone Williams, it seems like, you know, that every time they put him in And he's there, he's there rookie nickel back, and he's out there playing on speed again Jefferson being one of the fastest guys in the league, he's running a 4-3-40 And he gets by him there, and again that one was just an inch or two too much They beg it as to pick up the Bledsoe, I mean that's a big thing that Butler is doing now Remember we saw earlier where Leroy Butler ran over Meaghan, that time Meaghan got him blocked Tupac aims for out of bounds Fair catch signal by Desmond Howard at the 11, he made it above winter for the best dramatic series And tonight X-Files presents its most anticipated episode of the year Right after the Super Bowl, here on Fox Right now the Super Bowl has eight minutes and seven seconds left third quarter With the Packers leading 27-14 And the Patriots again, their defense has to try and get their momentum back They had a pretty good shot on that last time when Ted Johnson came up with that big fourth down play to stop them Their offense couldn't do anything, and now they have them backed up And this is where if you can get a big play by your defense and create a turnover That can become a score very easily First down at the 12 for Green Bay, their own 12 Oh, he noticed Smith and nobody saw him coming, including Brett Favre You can see it all the way from up here, Otis Smith was lined up on the outside receiver And you're going to see him come from the outside, here he is right there He lined up like he was going to cover, it was Brett Favre's backside There's Otis Smith right there, he looks like he's going to cover, Brett Favre is looking to the right Then he looks in the middle, I think when he looked in the middle, just out of the shade of his left eye He saw Otis Smith Second and 17 The Patriots needed a big defensive play down there, they just got one, now they need another one Looking for Antonio Freeman, the pump fake didn't fool anybody That was interesting there, wasn't it, that Otis Smith came on a blitz and knocked Favre down and got a sack on him So then Brett Favre went to work on Otis Smith having to cover on the next play Otis Smith just won both of those battles They needed big plays from the defense, they got the first one you pointed out, they just got another one in incompletion And now Favre, well this will be an interesting choice right here on third and 17 They're staying in their regular offense, so now the Patriots don't go to their dime defense And they move the pile out to about the 10, they don't get a first down, but they do get their punter a little bit more room And the special teams are going to play a big part in this game for the Patriots If Dave Megan is going to do something, he needs one right here I mean here's where he can really pick up field position for his team Hendrick standing back in the end zone Be interesting, see if the Patriots put a return on or try to block it I would think they'd put a return on They did And it's a good kick And Megan will field it at the 42 yard line And the Packers are down in a hurry and do a good job covering and New England takes over at their own 48 Jervie, Travis Jervie down to stop Megan 14, Pat Summerall with John Madden, Super Bowl 31 The Patriots needed a big series from their defense and they got it, the last two times in fact Yeah, you know the Patriots have to get something going here and somewhere you would think they have to mix a little run in there They've passed the last 14 times they've had the ball, so all the Packers are doing now The Packers have them one dimensional and they're just playing pass Here's your run Field, there's a run Yep, 14 straight passes and then they go to the run And five yards they got And then I think because if they run and they can run then they can get their play passes and some stuff going That's Ted Johnson, I think that their middle linebacker has probably played as well as anyone on that Patriot defense today I like him, he's a very impressive guy, he's a good guy Second and sixth he was, he is Here's Bledsoe back to throw Up into the pocket is Bledsoe and taken down from behind By Sean Jones as he tried to run it That's Sean Jones here, now once you start up the field the worst place you can be is behind a quarterback And then when he starts running up you have to make that move To come around him, you see he's going to start inside on a pass rush And then he's there, now when he feels that run you turn and you wheel and you go back up the field Some defensive linemen just stand there, they keep running The good ones quell when they see the quarterback run Had two shots at it and got it on the second chance, first down Robinson and Butler had him sandwiched but Coach still came up with it That's one of the things you tell receivers to catch a ball with your hands out in front of you I'll tell you Leroy Butler is just mugging him And Coach just gets it because the ball got so close that he hit him in the shoulder pad Watch him block on Reggie White here, here's Reggie White here You see there's Max Lane and he was trying to do that hump move to him And he got just enough help from Rucci, his right guard Just gave him just enough help Just a little chip Five minutes left in the third quarter, Bledsoe has a reverse come in Faked it Can't hang on, had it settle in one hand for just a second Bill Parcells told us yesterday that he has two special plays or two surprise plays to take a shot That was one of them right there, the fake reverse and pass to Curtis Martin He has one more there on that sheet somewhere In fact he was telling us what he has on that sheet He has six runs, three draws, five play actions, two bootlegs, three screens Two special plays and 15 drop back passes And if he gets them all wrong, they've had a big day Here's Bledsoe Fires to Jefferson Makes the catch very, very close to a Patriot first down He's hit by Tyrone Williams Yeah, it's an interesting thing, both Santana Dodson and Reggie White are taking themselves out I don't understand that, I mean this is a time that you have to stop them And they both raise their hand and come walking off the field That's, you know, the only thing that I can think of is that it is getting a little hot down there McKenzie and Wilkins went in to take their place Gilbert Brown started out and then went back They're that much shorter than the first down, you don't want Gilbert Brown out Well they can't take them all out, but if Reggie's going to come out and Santana Dodson's going to come out Gilbert Brown can't come out Here's Santana Dodson, number 71 I saw them, they both raised their hands and walked out It must be getting hot down there Well, you know, and then they had all that exhaust is still in here They had fireworks, they had Harley-Davidson's, they had everything And it's still sitting in this dome Are you okay? I don't know, I'm fine, I'm not down there in the field But I think down there in the field it's getting hot for these guys It's starting to settle I think they're starting to feel the wear and tear in the heat Third and short Third and deep He gets the carry And he's got more Than enough for the first inside The 20 is still on his feet, struggles down to about the 17 Stopped by Eugene Robinson Yeah, that's the old deal when the cats away, the mice play You know, they take out Santana Dodson, they take out Reggie White They need a little run and they get the lead there There's Keith Byers on the lead And there was no one there I mean, that was a hole that anyone could have ran through But again, just by getting enough running, and the Patriots are doing now Then they can... 7-14, we're in the third quarter, 3-48 left Yeah, we were talking about how smoky it is Look at that, Pat, I mean, it really is This place looks like it's in the fog or something I know it's getting hotter down there Let's check in with Bill Maas Hey, Pat, I'll tell you, it is getting hot down here As you look up into the ceiling, you see nothing but a fog And I think it's because the air conditioning ducts are all covered up Around the sides of the stadium, they're covered up with the banners So the air is having trouble getting out of here Back up to you, Pat Thanks, Bill, 1st and 10 on the Green Bay 18 New England Flag on this plane But Curtis Martin is in the end zone Forget the flag if it's against Green Bay Martin broke through the middle and got into the end zone It all started when they started getting some running going And it all started when Santana Dodson and Reggie White came out And it's going to be interesting to see what this penalty is or who it's against That's a touchdown Curtis Martin was really something on that Once he hit that hole, this guy has moves on move He has moves in the backfield, he has moves in the hole He has strength, and then he has moves when he gets in the open field But all he sees is opposite color, and he runs away from opposite color And right through Gilbert Brown, those big arms didn't wrap around him I still don't understand why Reggie White and Santana Dodson aren't in there The 18-yard touchdown run, and the Patriots can move close The tier is extra point is good, and it's 27-21 Look at that, he did, he ran right through Gilbert There's what Bill Maas was talking about a minute ago The vents underneath there being covered by the banners You can see all the way around the stadium You can see the banner material being blown or the vents or whatever I think those are the air conditioning vents And I think what happens is there's no air conditioning coming in here now And all this smoke is still in here And I think it's starting to get warmer on the field And the players are starting to feel it Starting to get warmer up here It sure is, Benetieri Kick goes to Desmond Howard at the 1 Desmond Howard is off You better turn it on or he's gone Desmond Howard All the way Into the Patriot end zone As soon as they get back in it Everybody takes it away, 99 yards The longest ever in Super Bowl history 99 yards for Desmond Howard It had been by Fulton Walker You need momentum changers You need momentum plays You need momentum change players And that's what Desmond Howard was right there He has become some weapon The Patriots took it away And the Green Bay Packers took it right back And the Packers have to take a timeout Because they didn't have the right people They were going to go for 2 They had about 20 guys on the field Jerry Austin the referee That's the Super Bowl record again In case you didn't hear Desmond Howard And what a factor he's been today And down the stretch for the Packers What a pick up he was for the Packers And we talk about the job that Mike Holmgren does But it's in conjunction with the job that Ron Wolf does Ron Wolf gets the players And Mike Holmgren coaches them And Ron Wolf has done an excellent job Of getting players for this team Indeed he has They were very close to letting Desmond Howard Go at the end of training camp Well we did a preseason game there at the end And I thought maybe they were going to get They were going to let Desmond Howard go But Ron Wolf knew that he needed a guy That could return kicks And he thought Desmond Howard could be one of the best And he's proven him right What a weapon you talk about most valuable players Of course the game is not over yet The Packers are indeed going to go for 2 And those are the areas that you never talk about Before these big games Offensive defense and never the special teams Farm has forever flags come flying As a scuffle breaks out the end zone Rarely does anybody get injured in something like this Aaron Taylor number 73 for the Packers Had someone he was holding someone down there The officials on the bottom Officials that he didn't want to get in on that one He got his hat knocked off and everyone There's Aaron Taylor he comes out of it We did it We got that too but that was Desmond Howard The two point was Brett Favre to Mark Shamura Finds him in the back of the end zone Because he had plenty of time Brett Favre came out there He had great pass protection Plenty of time And then he could go up and do this little Celebration with Leroy Butler He said they have one more part of that celebration That he forgot but watch his kick First of all you get into your wedge That's that fourth group And then you get into the fourth group You get into your wedge that's that fourth group And then you follow your next blocker And then when you break out there And you're Desmond Howard You just run to the end zone Adam Vinatieri is not going to catch you No but the first thing you have to do Is get it straight up into the wedge The wedge of those four guys That are about 20 yards away from you And that's exactly what Desmond Howard did 35-21 Green Bay We're still in the third quarter 3-10 left You think the Patriots are coming back You think they're getting in a position To get themselves in good shape Maybe take the lead and here comes Desmond Howard Well the Patriots did come back And then Desmond Howard took the momentum right away from them Megan feels it at about the one Megan is knocked backwards At about the 23 Jeff Thomason Super Bowl records set in this game Four kick returns You saw what Desmond Howard and the damage he's done These are all the records set tonight The most combined points set in the first quarter The longest pass reception Most punt returns by an individual yard 75 the longest kickoff return by Desmond Howard In both cases 99 yards That's what you call a shootout You know this isn't the 85 Bears here This is a dominant defense This is a shootout offense This is a kickoff return Hit by Reggie White just as he let it go But completes the pass He fires and fires struggling for extra yards They're still going down there Watch Reggie White Here he comes again They try and cut him And anytime you try and cut Reggie I've seen him do this for 12 years He'll jump over it And the one thing you learn If you're ever going to block Reggie White Is you can block him different ways But you're not going to be successful cutting him Someone should have told Max Lane that 12 years never won a championship of any kind In his entire career Reggie White They're getting closer There's Bledsoe Down he goes And there's Reggie White And that's that hump move That's the one he learned that from Howie Long Where he gets his right arm in And just pulls the guy Right here And he's going to come to the inside Now watch the right arm there See him get the right arm And he just throws Max Lane to the side And comes right inside him Here's the hump You go up the field Get the right arm in Get him moving that way And just keep his torque going that way And then go inside him Maybe he heard you say He shouldn't come out for a rest Well that's right Or maybe because he was out for a rest He was able to make moves like that That's possible Reggie White's going to take over this game right now That's what he's saying There is a point There's a point that That he can't let the Patriots Get their momentum back As Coach Fritz Schermer said Before the game ever started That Reggie would probably have He thought would have the game of his life today But here's the same thing Now Max Lane that time was expecting the hump move Which is an inside move And Reggie just gave him a rip And went right under him Here's his wife Sarah That's her reaction There's one Howard back for two And the ball goes out of bounds That might be the wisest thing the Patriots have done all day Kicked the ball out of bounds Now there's two players that have really Changed things in this game Reggie White there on defense He just got up and says I've never won a championship in my life I'm this close I'm not going to let this one get away And before that Desmond Howard making the big play The exhaust fans here in the Superdome We understand are in the ceiling And those are behind the banners for fresh air coming in Yeah well that's what I was saying Those are the vents to push the air out They're not pushing any air out So there's no air in here There's no air conditioning The Levens and he got a yard Maybe more Maybe not Green Bay starting to operate from their own 37 yard line They're leading 35-21 And now they want to start slowing things down So I think you know the 35-21 I think now you got your separation That you can go into a slowdown mode And of course the Patriots are going to have to go into a fast break mode The Packers taking their time down to 10 seconds left And less than 10 on the game clock down And here's Favre and he's going to take off with him He's got some room Brett Favre slides first down midfield When you're Brett Favre and you're the quarterback And you're from Kill, Mississippi You went to college in southern Mississippi You're going to do things like that He's the darnedest guy I've ever seen He's a quarterback who plays like a nose tackle He says all I need is a couple of hits and I'm ready to go And he's got the mischief of a 7 or 8 year old in his eyes How about his foot? He has like three knuckles in his feet They look like a hand And he can pick up a baseball with his foot We saw him do it That is amazing That's the end of three quarters Thirty-five twenty-one The Star Wars trilogy is back on the big screen And each planet is celebrating in a different way On Earth, people are playing Feel the Force at Taco Bell Press the game piece to magically reveal if you've instantly won cash One of millions of prizes or a special edition Hummer See the trilogy, Feel the Force Play the game at Taco Bell Are you sure this is the right theater? I'm not even sure it's the right planet Cray Marama is coming to Colorado this February on Fox 31 Green Bay Packer meeting on the sideline Well, you know, when you get this close I mean, this is what it's all about It's not about the money, it's about being a champion It's about getting a ring And know that in Super Bowl XXXI You will be the champion of Super Bowl XXXI The rest of your life They can never take it away from you And when you get this close There's no way you want it to get away from you First and ten, Green Bay midfield He's done a real good job for the Packers today is Bruce Wilkerson Because one of the dominant defensive players of the Patriots Has been Willie McGinnis And McGinnis really hasn't done much today I mean, he's been he's been pretty quiet Bruce Wilkerson has always been a right tackle all his life He's a very good player He's a very good player He's a very good player He's a very good player He's a very good player He's a very good player He's a veteran player He really didn't do a great job on that play But we haven't heard McGinnis's name much today Just one time Right, and if they were going to get any pressure It will usually come from Willie McGinnis Or from the other side, Chris Slade Maybe a yard Stopped by Ted Johnson When Bruce Wilkerson came in and started playing left tackle for the For the Packers, that kind of solidified that position They started out Gary Brown played five games The rookie John Michaels played nine games Ken Ruckers came out And of retirement Played one game, went back into retirement And then Bruce Wilkerson started three games And since Bruce Wilkerson started I think that whole line has gotten more solid As Mike Holmgren says He won't give us a whiff He's a ten year veteran Five deep Baby thought he was open But nobody came close to that one Five just aired it out We were talking about Brett Favre before But wasn't that something where he was on the bus And he took a baseball And he picked a baseball up with his foot I'd never seen anything like that But he has like size 13 or 14 feet And that's why he can throw passes like that And throw off his back foot He's not going to lose his balance Hendrick back to punt it High kick Megan signals fair catch Makes it at the 20 I don't know what that dance is But there's a lot of it 35-21 14-03 left to play And the cheeseheads Are starting to roll A little bit That dance was YMCA That's what it was YMCA And he doesn't make it back to the line of scrimmage Reggie White rose to the top In the last offensive series And these are two vintage moves The first one is the hump And then you expect the hump And he gives you the rip Just the right arm under Both of them against Max Lane Reggie doesn't look like He slowed down much does he? Well he didn't on that series I'll tell you I mean he knew and he can smell this now Reggie can smell a championship The first one in his life At any level They swing it outside To Martin and there's nothing there To Megan I beg your pardon And there's nothing there As the Green Bay defense starting to take charge Yeah again you know You can tell the way things are swinging Swinging and now they're swinging Green Bay's way On offense and defense and they have Everything they're going in and now We talk about a mode That Bill Parcells and the Patriots Have to get into they have to get in a fast Break mode and sometimes A fast break mode easily Becomes a panic mode And that's the one thing you Can't afford to do you don't want to do You think you're not But you are Here's Latso Jefferson can't hang on Incomplete And the Patriots will have to Punt And again good defense By the Packers You know good coverage good pass rush I think that I think that Reggie White Kind of turned things over where we Got those couple sacks and then that made Everyone play a little more cautiously Get back a little more on their heels Desmond Howard You mentioned his name and you associate Records too but trying to kick it away from Him again Desmond Howard Just jogs out of bounds this time Nothing developed 52 21 The cheese heads are starting to Come out I think the cheese heads have been out Pat we've been here For a week and as you as you walk Around New Orleans Which is a great place to have a Super Bowl Place to walk around that's a great place To walk around and they know how to put on a Party in the whole week has been a party and I think I've probably seen more cheese Heads this week in New Orleans And I've seen in my life Gets it outside to Edgar Bennett With a fresh view of New Orleans It's the Bud One Airship reminding you that fresh beer Tastes better And a lot of people had a lot of fresh Views last night I could hear them Yeah there probably a lot of those people With the fresh views last night you could hear Are probably here today Or at least watching today Second and sixth Two tight ends set up for the Packers A lot running 11 49 left This is Edgar Bennett First down Green Bay In Patriot territory At the 46 stopped by Chris Slade Jim McMahon He's waiting to get in the game Jim McMahon told Brett Favre He said hey when I went to the Super Bowl with the 85 Bears He said I was a starting quarterback And I got my two backups He said not just my backup He said if you're the starting quarterback He says you have to get your backup into the game So when I did it I got both my backups Into the game So let's see what you can do Jim McMahon said all they want to talk to me About this week is what happened the last time I was here When I was the quarterback for the Bears So he didn't talk all the way I'd like to see Jim McMahon Swirming around Lost yardage Lost a couple I saw Jim McMahon Before the game I was talking to him in the field He comes out early And he drop kicks And he drop kicks field goals He said he was going to go for a world record 60 yards He said he had a 55 yarder And he was going to go for a 60 yarder today Then I had to leave Was that in competition or? No, no, just out there He's out here by himself Just talking to himself This is like 3 or 4 hours before the game What the heck does he care? Second and 12 Packers at the Patriot 48 There's Favre He can play Favre not only Automolized on that one But you see him he was talking to everyone He was automolizing and then Point and then doing everything Here comes that New England package that they had trouble with earlier Yeah and then they started You know getting some first down passing And then that got them out of that And then they started getting their running game going And right now Then they have their special teams going Right now the Packers have everything going their way 10-10 Left to play I know what Mike Holmgren is feeling now That's the longest 10-10 minutes In his whole life Far to throw By Shimura He was open He had the first down He couldn't hang on This game is presented by authority of the National Football League Is intended for the private use of our audience Any rebroadcast or other use of this Telecast without the express written Consent of the National Football League Is prohibited I think when Mark Shimura Is your best friend and you're the quarterback And he drops when, that's why you smile Because he's your best friend, what are you going to do You can't get mad at your best friend But you can but it won't last You don't, you don't care about it Hendrick May get signals fair catch Makes it at the 13 The Patriots will go to work from there With 9.57 left Packers leading 35-21 New nose $6,000 Lips $3,000 New chest $8,000 Don't tell me, I never forget a face Don't help me here, it's It's amazing The changes you can make for a few thousand dollars Bob? Bob Johnson? Imagine what Holiday Inns will look like when we spend A billion Holiday Inns On the way Nothing takes you out of the action faster Than a diarrhea medicine that can Let you down But you can count on a Modium A.D. To stop diarrhea often in one dose You could end up taking Dose after dose after dose of the pink stuff To stop diarrhea as effectively as A Modium A.D. Don't take chances when you have diarrhea Take a Modium A.D. One dose relief you can count on Everybody likes to have a good time But hey, uh oh Before you go out to party Always choose a designated driver It's a sign of intelligent life Just comparing how far And how much this game has developed And what it's changed into from Super Bowl number one Tickets were $12, it was not sold out Now they're $275 To this one And this is the foreign Broadcasting compound That's Marv Levy of course who's on In some country I saw Morton Anderson Before the game who was such a great Place kicker here for the Saints for so long He's doing the Danish broadcast I know and they're way up there In that exhaust Look at them up there They're all waving, they're having a heck of a time First and 10 Patriots At their own 14 Hit about five times And hit hard They keep him in bounds and keep the clock running And that's what the Packers would like to do You see the Patriots Have to think now in terms of scoring too I mean they gotta get a score then get the ball Back and score again That's right It's Megan who doesn't get a first down Gets only a couple of yards And now it brings up that big third down situation That we talked about earlier And one of the guys that the That the Packers have controlled well today Is Dave Megan Because the Patriots were counting on him To get him a big play And the Packers haven't let him get a big play Oh the coach The coach will get the first down And the coach is going to hurry back Leroy Butler, Leroy Butler More correctly There's Ray Perkins the offensive coordinator Of the Patriots He's not sure what's going to happen to him after this game There's a lot of uncertainty of what's going to happen To the whole coaching staff of the Patriots No way No game Yeah what is going to happen Well I would be surprised if Bill Parcells is back I would guess or say that This is the last game that Bill Parcells will coach for the New England Patriots And of course His coaches will be free And Ray Perkins isn't sure where He's going to coach So going deep It's intercepted By Newsom And the Packers Will take over That's when fast break becomes panic And then you force things and that's exactly what happened here They knew that they needed two touchdowns They had to get one fast So you go fast break then you panic a little And then you press a little Then you throw things where you shouldn't be throwing them Newsom knows that He knows he's going deep Before Sean Jefferson Ever made his move Greg Newsom read that perfectly He was just coming off and he started to run deep For the up pattern Before Sean Jefferson even started running deep For the up pattern 8-14 left to play the Packers take over You're talking about Parcells There is of course the possibility That he'll sit out a year And not coach anywhere Yeah that is a possibility I would think either that or a team like the Jets I don't think he'll be back with the Patriots I agree with you No game stopped by Todd Collins As Craig Newsom he said I knew that was I was waiting for that one Because again when you have them by two touchdowns When they have to score two touchdowns You know that they're going to take a shot at you And they have speed like Jefferson They're going to try and take a shot to Jefferson So you just run where he's going to go That's exactly what Newsom did Reggie White As we mentioned previously Never won a championship way back in junior high Before that Played all the sports at every level And never won a championship And Reggie White deserves a championship Yes he does Reggie White's a good man That's Edgar Bennett Tripped up by Chris Slade You know we talk about What the Green Bay Packers are doing now Everything that they're in is a slow down mode Just run the ball Keep the ball in bounds On the other side they want to get the ball back Get them out of bounds Keith Byers of course they're played With Keith Jackson and Reggie White They were all together in Philadelphia I talked to Keith the other day and he said If we lose he said I'm going to feel real bad It's going to hurt But he said I'm going to feel good For Reggie and for Keith Keith Jackson And I told Reggie White that And he says if we lose he said I'm not going to feel good For Keith Byers But you know he would Yeah but this is big to Reggie When we talked to him the other day He was as tight And as nervous as I have ever seen Reggie White and I've known him for 12 years Reggie has that raspy voice But as somebody said There's just a touch of sugar in that voice And look he's anxious now It was 6 minutes 45 seconds There's his wife Sarah Their family They know it's not only Reggie hasn't won a championship They haven't won a championship They've heard about it for a long time And that was Reggie's yeah but You know a lot of players A lot of coaches you have a yeah but He's a great player He's a dominant player He's going to win a Super Bowl I think Reggie White is going to eliminate One of his yeah buts Don't forget right after the game tonight On Fox After the post game show The X-Files all new Following our Super Bowl coverage Which will of course include the presentation Of the Lombardi Trophy That will take place out on the field We'll throw it To Freeman and he is hit And brought down short of a first down By Willie Clay There's a penalty I think it was brought down I think that's going to be a first down for the Packers And that's where we talked about Fast break of becoming Panic and then becoming frustration That's the next level The Patriots are going through that right now Personal foul Number 32 the defense 15 Bill Parcells has Made his reputation with the Giants With his great defensive unit But to his credit He has been able to adapt to the personnel That he was dealt Well it's just the ball is The whistles blown And Willie Clay just Knocks the ball out of his hand And then he started to go after him And that's what they call Foolish Antonio Freeman just picked up the ball It wasn't a first down He knocked the ball out I don't know that they would have called that a penalty Then he went after him after that Now that was just stupid He's just even pointing to his head He's even hit himself in the head That was a stupid thing to do That's when pain becomes frustration Packers leading 35-21 Down to two seconds on the play clock Here's Dorsey Levin Knocked out of bounds at about the 36 yard line Of New England If I had a team in fact when we picked the All Madden team We took Dorsey Levin's but here's a guy Who's like 6 foot 1 240 pounds Can run the ball You can play him in the backfield You can split him out You can do so many things with him That he's not a bad guy to have in your team No he's not And the Packers would like to keep him on their team He's going to be a free agent Well that's one of the things we talked about the job That Ron Wolf has done to the general manager Of this Packer team Ron does a pretty good job of getting the guys And then keeping the ones he has to Then it Straight ahead and didn't get the first down It'll bring up a third and short And the Patriots I believe have just taken a time Out with five and a half minutes left They have two left Green Bay has one left Bill Purcells is thinking You know we got to get the ball back We don't want it to end like this Mike Holmgren is thinking Let's just get this thing over Well from all your friends at Budweiser Thanks for a great great season And fans This Bud's for you We were staying in a hotel right outside The mighty Mississippi and I didn't realize That there were that many ships in the mighty Mississippi A lot of traffic out there isn't there Desmond Howard And his congratulations He was a big big part of this And we talked about momentum changers I'm not sure he's not the most valuable player Well I have a vote for the most valuable player I know you do I got a sheet around here someplace Other stuff I got it here I wasn't trying to influence you you understand I'm not going to be influenced But I know who I'm going to vote for already Reggie White No that's not bad Well Reggie White No no I'm going to vote Don't tell me Why not? I'm like one of fifteen or one of ten It might sound like I'm trying to influence you I'm going to vote for Brett Farns Now you can't go wrong with that That's right Flags come flying Whistles start blowing Jerry Austin and his crew have done An outstanding job today I always say Prior to this now ball start Number sixty four Five yards still third down Wilkinson Please reset the clock again to five thirty two They always say That if you never notice the officials They've done a good job Yeah I think they've done a good job I can't vote for them for MVP But here's my thing look MVP Right here I don't want to see I'm going to fill it out right now I don't want to see Packers That's it right there Brett Favre Packers third and seven Favre gives The door And Levin's again cuts back Against the grain and cuts To about the thirty five yard line Stopped by Corwin Brown Clock continues to run Thirty five twenty one Green Bay Super Bowl 31 This is one of the reasons I I vote for Brett Favre for MVP Look he hands off and then he goes Back and he fakes that jump pass No one has thrown a jump Pass since Sid Luckman Harry Gilmer Harry Gilmer after Sid Luckman A little bit a little bit but I remember Sid Luckman and Charlie Trippy Remember he used to get those bubble gum And the guy would be up jumping in the air with the hand out And that's what he's done No one's done that And now Brett Favre is bringing that back Most of those guys on the cards had a ball though He's just plainly If he ever gets a chance to have a ball in his hand He'll do it First down I wonder if Mike Holmgren Somewhere is going to put Jim McMahon into the game That's George Coons On the crutches on the sideline who Is the middle linebacker His place has been capably taken By Ron Cox That was a big improvement in this Green Bay Defend fall this year with George Coons in the middle Picking up Santana Dodson From Tampa Bay And picking up Eugene Robinson right up the middle Those three guys He nudges it over the right side Down to about the 30 He takes another timeout so they only have one left A timeout a piece Left Summarizing the game for Super Bowl Records set most of them by Desmond Howard 239 return yards including A 99 yard kickoff return Drew Bledsoe 23 out of 43 Three interceptions two touchdowns Far Two touchdown passes and one Rushing TV Drew Bledsoe played well today He did the thing They just couldn't get any running game going After they got that drive Then Desmond Howard broke their back With the kickoff return They were that close Drew Bledsoe had three Interceptions but that one was kind of a You know type of thing a desperation thing There at the end Second and seven Far gives to Bennett again Who nudges inside the 30 About the 29 yard line of New England And the clock continues You see what Edgar Bennett's doing there Pat as he runs In there he's just not going to Get a first down ball he wasn't trying to gain a lot of yards He's not trying to get a first down he's not trying to get a Touchdown he was going in there and Make sure that no matter what happened He was going to hold on to that ball And that was more important than making any Moves or any big plays or anything Bennett and Henderson come out So Levens will be the runner Behind far this time Right now they don't get a first down It'd be a 47 yard field goal It's going to be a great attempt It almost hung on the hip Long enough for rising to reach back And get it And we'll have Jackie yeah sometimes you can Throw that thing and just throw it a little Short and let him come back and I think that's what They were trying to do and it was Right on the shoulder and he almost Picked it off Otis Smith shoulder A lot of people said rising Couldn't play anymore He can sure play for the Green Bay Packers And when we talked to him the other day We've known Andre rising for a long time And that was the happiest Andre rise I ever saw 47 yards by Jackie It's far enough And no good To the right Bill Parcell's going back to work Again He just turned and said he wants four Wides So again they have to think The Patriots have to think here in In terms of getting two scores So you have to get one quickly If you don't get it quickly then you're going to have to Take an onside kick And they only go for an onside kick They only have one time out Like both teams only have one time out 35 21 Green Bay But of course if they score that's an automatic timeout They'll get another one at the two minute warning So they do have three timeouts or so Packers rush just three Bledsoe Bounces one out in the direction Of his wide receiver Yeah this is what Fritz Schermer is going to do now He's going to he's going to get very conservative defensively He's going to just rush three guys And he's going to cover with eight And he's going to play soft zones There's Bledsoe back again This one is complete to the outside And Megan who gets out of bounds And stops the clock After he picked up About five or six Just outside The Patriot forty Three forty six Left to play there's Fritz Schermer And again the same thing that Three man line Soft zone defense Santana Dotson First to arrive Reggie White right behind him That should never happen Never ever happen when you have five guys Blocking three They're only rushing three here's Santana Dotson There's no way There's no way that he should get in there He has a double he goes by the center Goes by the right guard That is terrible pass protection That should never happen against a three man line Well you were talking earlier about what an addition Santana Dotson had been He gets in some funny positions But he sort of slides Through people And the Patriots punted Well the boss started on Reggie went to the outside And Thompson split him That's Desmond Howard Flag on the play way back In Green Bay territory Howard almost broke another one If Howard would have broke one there I would have had to get my ballad And bring it back together And scratch it out I could still do that You can? Oh yeah you could do anything what I can put two or three of them in Do I still have it? No it's gone You're the run back Holding Number thirty seven of the receiving team Ten yards he'll be first down That's about the only way they've stopped Desmond Howard today Yeah and I guess that Mike Holmgren Isn't going to go for the The quarterbacks and get Jim McMahon into another Super Bowl and Get all his players Playing experience There's Ron Wolf we're talking about Ron Wolf and That's Gene Washington from the league office Remember the old 49er? Just congratulating Ron And I know Ron Wolf he's saying not yet No he's saying victory Hey watch out Ron Not yet We're number one He deserves it He's a great guy Worked with Ron Wolf for 12 years with the Oakland Raiders He is the number one guy And he and Mike Holmgren Get well together There's Ron Wolf there he's just squeezing his hands And that's going to be Two minutes and 55 seconds And Ron said let's get this one over You know but it's been It's been so calm and cool It's been great both of these coaches Cooperative they've Been with us this week and Bill Parcell Is one of the great guys in This game and he said I don't expect He'll be back with the Patriots Mike Holmgren I don't know if there's two nicer guys Good coaches solid coaches good guys I think Parcells will come Because he's a football coach And he said that so many times It may not be with the Patriots I'm pretty sure it's not going to be With the Patriots I don't think it will be with the Patriots In fact he's not even flying home with the team Yeah he has a He has another flight going somewhere Else so 33 to 14 for Green Bay that was Super Bowl number two You were an assistant coach for the Raiders Vince Lombardi was the coach of those Green Bay Packers as his last game As a coach of the Packers I did that game And everyone talked about that championship With Lombardi and all those Years and Now all these years later the Packers are going to have their own championship Titletown is really Going to be Titletown I did that game with one of the One of the great announcers who's ever Been in our business one of the real professionals In our business Ray Scott You know you think of the Green Bay Packers and Vince Lombardi And Paul Horning and Jerry Kramer in the Green Bay sweep And you also think of Ray Scott Don't you? Yeah you do You think of the Packers Santana Dotson who just made that play You know talking about Ron Wolf And being with the Raiders Santana Dotson's father Alphonse Dotson Played with the Raiders Yeah He goes in motion far Looking the throw Gets away from the Guinness But not From Bruski It was funny when we talked to Mike Holmgren The other day he said one thing he didn't want Brett Favre To do is run backwards He said if he got in trouble he always wanted him to run Forward step forward but when he gets in Trouble and runs backwards He said all he does is get in more trouble At least he didn't do it until The last two minutes of the game Two minutes And we'll get the warning with two minutes to go And the Packers leading 35-21 As you know AT&T is trying to make long distance Calls from home simple Because you don't want to be worried about prices all the time Yes Well now AT&T is guaranteeing competitive prices AT&T is guaranteeing competitive prices What did I just say? AT&T is guaranteeing competitive prices I have AT&T and I would never switch Why's that? Well it's the best value Their customer service is great Yeah but what else? They've got the most powerful network Right and now guarantee competitive prices Guarantee to what? You're getting an apology note? I'm sorry If you're not satisfied that their prices Are competitive they will give you one month Of long distance free Up to $100 worth And $800 compare Well you don't see that every day AT&T quality Service and guaranteed competitive prices So you never have to worry about Long distance prices again When did we stop feeling Safe and secure As the millennium approaches The world as we know it Is going mad And getting worse every day But there is hope Frank Black and the Millennium Group Millennium Fridays at 9, 8 Central Parental Discretion Advised Television's biggest day of the year Isn't over yet After the Super Bowl Catch the episode everyone will be talking about Tomorrow morning If you've never seen The X-Files This is the one show you can't miss In all new X-Files tonight after the Super Bowl Parental Discretion Advised Two minutes left In Fox's first Super Bowl Super Bowl 31 Green Bay leading 35-21 Craig Hendrick back to punt To Dave Megan 35-21 Brett Favre Your choice for most valuable Player and that's not a bad one He's more than a Quarterback. Brett Favre is a Football player That could just play anywhere They could He is Megan Packer coverage is good And down there first is Travis Jervy The Green Bay tradition The Packers and Lambeau Field And Vince Lombardi the trophy named after him Now to Mike Holmgren And the names in the history Bart Starr, Brett Favre The New Dynasty Ray Nitschke Reggie White And the new taking over for the old But I think really they're all going to join It's going to just be one Packer Legacy His third sack of the day They have Max Lane Has sure got an education from Reggie White today Especially at the end of this game Reggie took him to school It's hard to believe in a guy as big as Reggie is 6'5 and 300 or whatever he weighs That's that hump move again Can be so gentle Incomplete Intended for Megan You know that move he learned it from Howie Long Like I said earlier and how he Called it a hump move and Reggie White called it a Howie He came on when there was a game to be won Reggie said there's a game to be won I don't know How much gas I have left in this tank But whatever it is I'm going to Empty it out a lot And he emptied it today A minute twenty seven Patriots Out of timeouts Packers up by 14 That's always hit just as he let it go Complete the Brisbane Who is hit by Newsom Poor old Max Lane He's going to be thinking about Reggie White Max Lane's only in his third year He's going to be a good one he's from Navy but Reggie White took him to school today Three sacks Seven hurries Seven hits Here's Bledsoe Bledsoe The Packers have the ball With the New England 21 yard line The Packers Are going to enjoy the fruit And the Lombardi trophy And that was Craig Newsom's hit Where the Newsom hit Brisbane Williams ends up with the interception And when we look at it again we're going to see number 21 come up and really make a hit watch him here's Craig Newsom here and he's going to unload on Brisbane he's going to knock the ball out watches it comes up here now he reacts and he sees it and I watch right there boom he just knocked everything out of Brisbane even made me say boom that's where the first booms in your life yeah but that was Craig Newsom Williams gets the interception but it was really Craig Newsom fifty seconds left to play those who say these games are boring play a tape of this one or be part of the Green Bay Packard team the Green Bay Packer coach be Mike Holmgren be Reggie White be Brett five. Five deals down the clock. He proves Wilkerson. They start shaking hands like Holmgren officially we've just been notified the most valuable player of the game is Desmond Howard. You were right. That's what you said you should have voted for or I should have voted for you vote for you want to he was you know he changed things around I think they all did a great job I think I think Desmond Howard did and he's an MVP and he deserves it you know who I voted for from a guy who was almost cut in training camp the first special team player ever to win the Super Bowl MVP title and this is what it's all about winning a championship couldn't happen to a nicer guy the greatest moment of your life you'll never forget it they could never take it away. What do you have to say to Green Bay, the new America's team and all of its fans around the world? I think it's time, Terry, that the Lombardi Trophy goes on to Lambeau Field where it belongs. Ron Wolf, general manager of the Green Bay Packers. This is a tough question. What did you see in Desmond Howard that made you decide to give him a second chance and that this guy could be this instrumental in a victory, the Super Bowl XXXI victory for the Green Bay Packers? Well, Terry, the real credit goes to the gentleman to my left. He kept after me to sign him. We were going to make him our first year, our first pick, and Washington moved in front of us. But we kept after it and look what happened today. I'd like to say this to the Green Bay Packers, every member of the Green Bay Packers, well done, well done. To the fans of Green Bay, this is yours as much as it is ours. And we thank you very much for that. Thank you. Let me move over here. Mike, it's like we have seen a lot of errors in the National Football League, notably the Vince Lombardi Lombardi era. And now along comes you, Mike Holmgren. Is this the new era? Is this the Mike Holmgren era? And what does it feel like to be a coach of the gold champion Green Bay Packers? Well, Terry, first of all, I'm really humbled by the experience. This is the greatest group of players I've ever been around, the most unselfish group of players I've ever been around. And my coaches just did an awesome job all season long keeping them focused. And they are to receive a lot of the credit. I mean, we were all in this thing together. Coach Lombardi had a wonderful legacy for the rest of us. And now we're just trying to do our part. I hope we can do it for a long time to come. We see in games like this, there is always a momentum change. I thought the second play of the game, you had 15 scripted plays, and yet the second play of the game was two tight ends, one back, two wide receivers. Bingo, 54 yards to Andre Rison. Why did you select that play? Well, the whole thing was Brett selected it. Oh, Brett selected it. Yeah, I had my script. And he read a blitz, he audible to a play, and he hit it. It was beautiful, and that might have been the turning point right there. Right. Well, you're audible. That's amazing. Big guy. Reggie White has been 14 years. What's it mean to you? You know, I just want to say this. You know, God brought me here. I want to say thank you, Jesus. It's not all about us. It's not all about what we accomplish. It's about what God has done in these players, in this team, and Lord Jesus, I just want to say thank you for the opportunity. This feels good, man. This feels great. Feels great. I want to say hi to my grandmother back home. Mother, hello, and all my family. I love you guys. Brett. You were a little bitty boy. You dreamed of playing in the National Football League, and you said, one of these days I'm going to win one of these Super Bowls. And you did it today. And this has got to make you feel like your own top of the world, even though you are the MVP in the league. Well, thanks, Terry. I tell you, I want to thank our fans, first of all. Thank the city of New Orleans. We worked, you know, we worked very hard for this. We put forth a lot of effort. We went through a lot of tough times. Our team, you guys stuck with us. It's been a long road, but we're here. We want to thank all of you. Thank you. Ron Wolf brought you to Green Bay. I don't think he expected a man that would have three punt returns, kickoff returns, a regular season, and then two more in the postseason. And the 99 yard of today is the Super Bowl record, 244 return yards, also a record. Are you surprised by the results that you have given the Green Bay Packers? No, not really. I think that you have to have confidence in yourself. And through all the adversity and the trials and tribulations, I've always had confidence in myself. I just think that you have to give a lot of credit to a man like Ron Wolf for seeing through all the BS and trusting his eye for talent and bringing me here and giving me the opportunity to do the things I've done for this organization, this team thus far. Okay. You got a pose for us. You had a Heisman. It's been five years now since you won the Heisman. Is there a Super Bowl MVP pose? Have you made one up? Well, you think about it, James Brown, world champion Green Bay Packers, Super Bowl 31. Back to you, big guy. All right, Terry. Thank you. Well, the pose is best symbolized by the Lombardi Trophy. That is all the pose that's needed. These Green Bay fans most appreciative of the fact that Green Bay is once again title town. And let me engage my guys here, Howie Long, Ronnie Light on this. Howie, you said during the pregame show that other than Brett Favre, the biggest impact player on Green Bay is in fact Desmond Howard. Yeah, there's no disputing the fact that Brett Favre is the MVP of the NFL and MVP of the Green Bay Packers. But Desmond Howard has had the single biggest impact on this team and contributed to this team getting to this point in the Super Bowl and breaking that long kickoff return today. Ron Wolf has done a remarkable job. And I think Desmond Howard epitomizes what Ron Wolf has done there. He did the same thing with the Raiders, brought people in from around the league. Dotson, Jackson, Ryzen, Jones, White. These are guys that he brought in from around the league, took advantage of the system that was in place. Desmond Howard was an inch away from playing in the Canadian Football League. And today he is a Super Bowl MVP. Reggie White, three sacks, a Super Bowl record. The road less traveled. Reggie White's here. He's a champion. Brett Favre, July 1996. He says that he's going to win a Super Bowl for this team. He said, believe in me. Come here and I'm going to follow you guys all the way here. What does he do? He wins the Super Bowl today. But like Terry Bradshaw said, stars have to play like stars. They had a lot of great stars. We've got Shawn Jones in the back. Shawn, come on up. We've got Shawn Jones in the little kid. This is fantastic. So many guys that lived their dreams. Shawn has played 14 years in the National Football League. And now he's got a championship. Well, Reggie White and company have an awful lot to be proud of. Reggie said all season long that Green Bay was a team of destiny. And who's to doubt him? In fact, it is true. The Green Bay Packers are champions of Super Bowl XXXI. Back with more in a moment. Our race commemorates Sir Whitmore's ill-fated expedition to the North Pole. He was told he would have better grip with wide snowshoes. But he insisted on thin. He learned a hard lesson. Super Sunday excitement continues with Publishers Clearinghouse. Hi, I'm Tom Berger on Host of Fox After Breakfast. Live with the Prize Patrol's $10 million surprise. Mrs. Sankiewicz? Yes. Welcome back to the Pontiac Wide Track Grand Prix postgame show. Brought to you by the all new Wide Track Grand Prix by Pontiac. Wider is better. As we welcome you back to the festive environment here at the Superdome, the Pontiac Grand M Wide Track postgame show, joined now by Sean Jones who, again, 13-year KG veteran, he captures the ultimate. Howie, he's a good friend of yours. Why don't you take it away? And little Dylan Sinclair Jones right here, Sean's little boy. It just seems like yesterday when we picked you up at Northeastern University and you could barely get in a stance, over 100 sacks in the NFL, 13 years. It's been a long road. Tell me what you're feeling right now. You know, I just feel like saying thank you to everyone that helped me so much throughout this whole process. Obviously, my family, all the great players I've played with up to this point, of course, Earl Leggett, the greatest defense line coach. If it wasn't for him, I know I wouldn't have gotten this far in the league. Sean, I got to present this to you because I know you didn't get this yet, but here's your world champion Super Bowl T-shirt. Sean, how important when you're sitting over there and you've got this lead and all of a sudden here comes Martin, a touchdown cuts it down to seven points and you look and you say, oh, my God, we've got to stop these guys and then boom, 99 yards, Desmond Howard. I've been saying it all year. You know, Brett won the league MVP and we respect that. Brett had a great year, but for our team MVP, it had to be Desmond Howard. He meant so much to our team in terms of field position. Without him, we wouldn't have made it. And he just showed what he could do in this game. I'm so happy that he won the MVP. Sean, I know you guys use locker room fodder material from newspapers and commentators. What extra incentive did you also have today? Well, we heard that John Maddon was going to get a coaching job with Dick and everybody come back, but he kind of blew that opportunity. We heard that he said that if we played the Patriots 10 times, he'd be surprised that we could win five. So it just goes to show you, you know, we are a very loose group, but when we get on the field, we're ready to play. And that's why we've done it all year. We'll find out if John really said it. I'm not sure you said it, John. Incentive from Fox. Oh, my God. All right, Sean, thank you very much. We'll find out if John, in fact, did say that. All right, folks, we're going to come back, complete the activities and the festivities here at the Superdome. We'll do all of that after this. Yeah! It's like another one, Chase. Zerk, you feel like you were taken to another place where you've gone a long time. This is very important, sir. Do you have a sweet sensation in your mouth? Okay, people, let's begin the search. Welcome back to the Pontiac Wide Track Grand Prix postgame show, brought to you by the all-new Wide Track Grand Prix by Pontiac. Wider is better. All right, a number of stars, indeed, on the Green Bay Packers. Right now, let's check in with our Ron Pitts, who's standing by with one. And Tony O'Freeman, who, of course, as you know, four games he missed during the season with a broken forearm. He came back and is now winner in the big one, Ron Pitts. All right, JB, joining me now, two of Green Bay's wide receivers who had a great day today. Tony O'Freeman, Andre Risen, got the big trophy. That's what it's all about, isn't it? You know, I mean, you know, I like to thank God first, thank this organization, my family, all my friends that I've encountered within this team. I mean, it's the Vince Lombardi trophy, and we're bringing it back home, baby, where it belongs. First of all, I'd like to thank Jesus Christ, and also I would like to thank my family who stuck behind me, my teammates who accepted me in this organization, gave me another chance and opportunity to play football and have fun and become a world champion. Antonio, you had the Super Bowl record touchdown catch. What did they win on out there? What did you see? How were they trying to cover you? Oh, well, you know, we went to a trips look to the right, and I saw the safety walk up on me, Malloy, and... Unusual safety out there. Yeah, and he came up and bumped me, and I knew all I had to do was make him stagger and give him a hard move. I gave him a hard move, and he staggered. I got by him, Brett delivered a great ball, and I was able to run under it, and the rest was just my athletic ability running, and, you know, when I was running, I was just thinking about all those people... Don't hold anything back. I was thinking about all those people who said I couldn't go across the middle, and that's enough. Now you see me on the biggest day of my life, and we're champions. That's all that matters. Andre, what do you have to say to this? You bounced around a little bit. Some people said you had problems hanging on in different places, but you know what? You started off with a bomb. You made the big play. Tell me about it. I had to get on my knees and pray to God and thank him again for giving me this opportunity. You know, it's unbelievable, and this team is remarkable. We got great, not only great players on this team, but we got great people, and I think it's a reflection of this organization, and it's a reflection of this trophy, and that's why we're taking it back to Green Bay for all the players here. All right, congratulations, fellas. Don't party too hard up there now. All right, JB, let's go back to you. All right, Ryan, certainly New England has nothing to be ashamed of. It's a team that started 0-2 this season, and many people did not even think they would have a chance at winning their division title, much less being here. Right now, let's check in with Pam Oliver, who's standing by with Bill Parcells. All right, Coach, your guys made a run at it for a while there. Tell me how things got away from you. Desmond Howard, kickoff return. I thought we had a, you know, we thought we might have had him rocking just a little bit. 27-21, you know, we had a lot of momentum on that drive. Our defense was playing a lot better, but he made the big play, and I credit him for it. He's a terrific player, been great all year, and he was great today. Can you talk to me about what you may have said to the guys after this? A lot of speculation that you won't even be back. Did you get into that with them? No, I didn't. I just talked to them about the game and what happened in the game and some of the reasons why you lose a game like this. Then I thanked them for what they'd given to me this year in terms of effort, because they have done a tremendous amount, and they fought hard. We just cracked a little bit today under pressure. Is it a bittersweet moment for you? I mean, I think a lot of people think it's a foregone conclusion. You're gone. Is this a bittersweet ending for you? Listen, any time you get to this game, there's a measure of satisfaction, but when you lose it, you're disappointed. No one could be more disappointed than I am because I do think we had a chance there for a moment, and you never know when this opportunity is going to come again, or if. That's for everyone in that room, so I'm grateful that I had a chance to be here. I credit Green Bay. Mike Holmgren, I think, is a terrific coach that has a tremendous future in this league, and Ron Wolf, the GM of the organization, has done a tremendous job, and I credit their players for everything that they've done, so I think they've accomplished a tremendous amount, and they're worthy of being champions. They played better than we did today. Why do you want to leave the Patriots, Coach? Pardon me? All right, just for the record, let us also indicate that Bill Parcells, when asked about his coaching status, refused to address those questions, but once again, congratulations to the New England Patriots for making it to the Super Bowl. We'll come back with some thoughts from our guys here as we continue on the postgame show after this. This February, nonstop Fox is on fire. Yes! They want that title back. All right, we're going to go talk with a couple guys from the Packers secondary. Well, I'm sure believe that. Let's check in with Ron Pitz. You'll be joining me right now, Eugene Robinson, Leroy Butler, and Edgar Bennett, you snuck in here. I just heard Mike Holmgren say the trophy has our name on it. It belongs in Green Bay. Hey, Roy. Well, I think that's what it's all about. We set out to do this a long time ago. We've been telling our kids just way back in training camp where there's a lot of distractions. You know, what would this team have to go through? This means, I mean, more than the world to us right now. Now, this guy coming here, Eugene Robinson, did a lot for this secondary, didn't he? Give me your feelings on being here, starting up on a new team, and what you've been able to provide for it. You know, when Reggie White called me about a month and a half before the trade had happened, I really felt the Lord Jesus Christ was sending me. You can hear that thing with the Lord Jesus Christ. You can hear that name all throughout our conversation. I really felt that God was bringing me here. Bibi and I said the same thing. I couldn't, I didn't imagine how spiritual this team was, how people relied on Jesus, and how we still played effectively. God has blessed us tremendously, and now to share this trophy with all my boys out here is tremendous, because 12 long years of me playing, I got a trophy. And I'm going to give a shout out to Antioch Bible Church back there. I know they're praying for me. Hey, this is tremendous, and I share this with all the fans, not only in Seattle, but Green Bay, especially. All right, JB, you heard it. Let's go back to you. All right, Ron. Well, certainly when we come back to wrap things up here, our guys, Ronnie, Howie, and Terry, will have some final thoughts. And we'll also keep in mind that X-Files will be coming your way. And the winner of today's Super Bowl MVP poll on the Internet, the all-time Super Bowl MVP, is Joe Montana. And we thank IBM very much for the assistance with that. Stay with us.
