Good evening, I'm Peter Hitchiner. Debate remains deadlocked tonight in the row over tariff cuts to the clothing, textile and footwear industries. Leading cause for a pause in the Government's tariff reduction program, Victorian Premier Joan Kerner says people and jobs must be considered as well as economic theories.
My view is that the debate about a pause is not over. It will continue.
If we halted the phase down of protection, I don't believe that there would be one new job created as a result.
