An accident, Dolores, can be an unhappy woman's best friend.
Dolores has been arrested at the beginning of the film for the murder of her employer.
And 20 years before, there was some talk that she really murdered her husband.

Based on Stephen King's best-selling novel, Dolores Claiborne is a psychological thriller that asks, did she do it?
The book is interesting in that it's just written entirely as a confession.
It's all in Dolores' own words.
And so when I finished the book, I thought, I don't know how they're gonna make this into a movie.
Kathy Bates signed on to play the title role anyway, a decision that immediately sparked rumors.
You killed her.
Critics speculated that she was repeating a role that had already brought her success.
In 1990, Bates played a similar character in another Stephen King thriller, Misery, and won an Academy Award for her performance.
But despite the comparisons, Bates argues that Dolores Claiborne is nothing like Annie Wilkes, her character in Misery.
You always want to play something different as an actor. You want to challenge yourself and not make a repeat of a previous success.
I guess it's their toughness and their strength that's similar, but Dolores is very, very different.
Different because this time the part was written with Bates in mind.
Screenwriter Tony Gilroy actually kept her photograph beside him while writing the script.
It was funny, his wife started to get jealous after a while.
What happened in the house?
A motive.
She left you everything.
A witness.

Buffalo Soldiers, a TNT original motion picture starring acclaimed actor Danny Glover.
I think it's one of the great tragedies in American history that people don't know who these very heroic men were.
The 9th and 10th Calvary were formed in 1866 by a congressional act.
And that act of Congress made it possible for Glover's character, Washington Wyatt, a former slave, to rise to first sergeant of the African American U.S. Cavalry Corps known as the Buffalo Soldiers.
They participated in every major excursion with Native Americans.
I'm arresting you and your men for trespassing and murder.

Glover also served as co-producer of TNT's Buffalo Soldiers, hoping to help give black soldiers a real sense of their place in history.
I mean, this is not the first time that I've produced, but it's certainly the first time that I've been involved as a producer with the script and with the elements that I wanted in the story.

You know, it perhaps sounds like a cliché, but it feels like he was born to be this character, Washington Wyatt.
He had very, very specific ideas about what he wanted to see in the screenplay.
I think the main thing that Danny's bringing to the characters is enormous pride.
All good stories are about the spiritual journey.
And the fact that he is willing to be so vulnerable, you know, is pretty startling when you see his performance.
It's pretty wonderful.
It's important because it ain't my story.
You see, there's a place where you are that things that are larger than you.
They go as deep as the spirit of those people who lived, who were out here and lived and did the job.

Producer Debbie Allen discovered the case through articles and then spent 13 years bringing their story to the screen.
He will try against all odds, against all prejudices, to get home.
I was so filled with so many different emotions ranging from, my God, this is my ancestors, this is what happened, to why haven't we known the story?
We have to try the case again.
For actor Jaman Hunsu, Amistad is his first starring role.
I knew he was going to be a hot ship because of the, you know, the importance of the character.
What I was impressed with Jaman was his gentleness.
