If that's your attitude towards women, you're going to end up a very old and hungry bachelor. Not to change the subject. There's Terry Randall in the manly side, also Graham Eadie at fullback, and in this grand final, the great Ken Irvine announced his retirement at the completion of the game. In the Cronulla side, of course, with Tommy Bishop, captain and coach, he also had Watson, his erstwhile Great Britain teammate with him, and in that side also were Rick Burke, who was still playing, and Steve Rogers, and of course Greg Pierce was locked forward, who was now the coach of Cronulla Sutherland. What a galaxy of stars, and we know them well, and this was a worthy grand final. Tommy Bishop had coached this young Cronulla side to a point where I suppose 80% of the crowd at the grand final that day were on the side of the youngsters. The $4,000 question. Who will win both the Premiership and the check? Cronulla Sutherland or Manly Warringah? In the dressing rooms at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Manly, with their six internationals, are confident they'll take the double. They've shed the bridesmaid tag following their first Premiership last year in their sixth grand final appearance. Minor Premiers for the third successive season, Manly again topped a century of tries in scoring more than 500 points in the season, the only team in the competition to do so. Coach Ron Willie takes Manly to their third grand final in five years. We were going into this particular game as defending Premiers, and I believe we were a 20-point better side than Cronulla. Bob, looking back on this one, did you think that it was going to be as tough as it proved to be? All grand finals are tough, Frank, as you probably realise, you've seen quite a lot and you've played in, I think, one, haven't you? I've played a couple, yes. But, no, we didn't think it was going to be as tough and as rugged as what Bishop sent his boys out to really stick it up us, and it was fairly even in that department as well. The 73rd grand final, as far as toughness and probably both sides ripping into each other in the first 20 minutes was probably the worst of any of them, but it was a very hard game. They were led by big Cliffy Watson, and they had a young side and they were the favourites. Manly, it was my first year at Manly, and we had a real good side, and I think we were definitely the favourites, but they stuck to their guns and they tried to put us off our game, and it was on for Yunganull for the first 20 minutes. Yeah, well, it was the toughest game I've ever played in, and I remember the lead-up to the game. It was a rainy Saturday morning and we were expected to win, and sometimes when you go into those games, it often turns out the other way. I think that Cranulla had to really try and put us up off our game. We led the competition all year and we had a brilliant side with Bobby Fulton in the backs, the greatest centre in the world and probably the greatest forward in Malcolm, really, and Cranulla, coached by Tommy Bishop, were in their first grand final. They were a young side. They had nothing to lose. We were expected to win, and they came out boots and all, and it was just the toughest game that I've ever played in or ever seen. We had a great side. I rated this side as good as the side that won the premiership last year, the 1972 team. For Cranulla, it's their first, but what an effort by the Sharks. They've only been in First Division seven years and not only is it their first grand final, but the first time they've made the final series. They defeated St George 18-0 in the preliminary semi-final and Newtown 20-11 in the final to earn the right to play manly. They've come to the grand final the hard way, but they're ready. I think the 73rd grand final was one of the hardest games I've ever played in, really, out of here. I played in test games with the Poms against the Aussies, and we had some needle matches, but the 73rd grand final, possibly because we were underdogs and manly were the favourites, we had something to prove. One of the most vivid things that I recall is the way the game opened up. It sort of exploded in their being, sort of due also to the fact that, I think it was one of the first times New South Wales Rugby League had promoted the grand final as a promotion, and they left the players on the park for about 10 to 15 minutes before the actual kick-off, and the tensions built up so much that when the game started, they were released in a flurry. We weren't at all sent out with any instructions as to explode the game, but took off with a bang. We were the babies, and I think everybody possibly wanted us to win because manly had won it the year before, and manly were the great side, and anyway we pushed them to the hilt anyway. Tommy Bishop was a fantastic captain coach. I'd never known a guy who wanted to win a game of football more, and I'd never known a guy who took so much upon himself to make sure that we tried to win the game of football. Tommy was sort of, with his inspiration, I think this is why Cronulla sort of went so well that year. MUSIC Breville combined the old and the new, and came up with a better idea. The Country Kitchen, the world's first cast iron electric fry pan, with such controllable and even heat that it can seal in the juices of a steak, simmer a casserole, roast a chicken, or even poach fruit, and it's so easy to wash or wipe clean. The Breville Country Kitchen, a kind of old-fashioned new idea. Breville, better ideas sooner. Who are you? What are you thinking? Where do you come from? Where are you going to? Who are you? Do I know you? You're so lovely. Will I see you again? Singapore Girl. The loving and caring, giving and sharing, is the season for Arnett's chocolate biscuits. Chocolate biscuits to give and share. Arnett's chocolate biscuits. Mint slice, peppermint cream and real dark chocolate. TV snacks, crispy bite-sized, coated in real chocolate. The loving and caring, giving and sharing. Arnett's chocolate biscuits. And here come the Sea Eagles. Their decided edge in experience, teamwork and overall performances contribute to their being favoured to retain the Premiership. Now the Sharks, the sentimental favourites determined to avenge the 10 points major semi-final defeat by Manly. They're a younger side, but have three internationals in their line-up. Hooker, Rod and Turner, and two former English stars, Cliff Watson and Tommy Bishop. A great half-back and former Great Britain captain. Manly have only two changes to their 72 Premiership side. Half-maze for Ward and second row of Peters for Thompson. Cronulla matches Manly weight-wise in the forwards. The clash between the packs certain to prove a highlight. Fred Jones, Manly's captain and hooker. Tommy Bishop, captain's Cronulla, his fourth season in that capacity. Manly's state representative prop forward Bill Hamilton. The strong wind blowing down the ground from the Randwick end influences Jones' decision in winning the toss. He settles the first use of the breeze. From the kick-off, Manly put the first part of their tactical plan into operation. Using the wind really pumps downfield as the forwards follow on with the intention of containing the first point of the first half. The first half is a bit of a challenge for the Sharks. Using the wind really pumps downfield as the forwards follow on with the intention of containing Cronulla in their own half. As anticipated, Cronulla's forwards are prepared to challenge Manly's powerful six, ensuring the traditional bone-jarring softening-up period, the outcome of which will have a marked influence on the match. Turner effectively grounded by Reely and the reliable Randall. Wellman's kick on the sixth tackle fails to find touch. Brown securing possession close to Manly's quarter line. An opportunity now for the Seagull forwards to test their counter-pass metal. Jones to Randall. Tearing in, he's met by Madison, Watson and Bowen. O'Neil in a bull-like charge clashes head-on with Madison, who's given support by McGuire and Bowen. O'Neil shows his displeasure as Manly opens up play. Reely is down, Mays and Fulton following on, Mays covering Fisher. Watson, Cronulla's spearhead, and Bishop Singles-Peters out. The fierce forwards struggle goes on, each side having declared their intention of concentrating their energies there. Such pressure breeds friction, necessitating firm measures by referee Keith Page to maintain control. A perfectly executed delayed pass from Bishop to Watson sets up Corcoran, but there's Seagulls all over the ground. Drawing the defence, McGuire tries to send Bowen through an opening. O'Neil, who's been out of the game, is caught up by the Seagulls. The Seagulls are in the lead, and the Seagulls are in the lead. The Seagulls are in the lead, and the Seagulls are in the lead. The Seagulls are in the lead, and the Seagulls are in the lead. McGuire tries to send Bowen through an opening. The irrepressible Bishop has second thoughts about O'Neil, and there's danger of tempers erupting. I think it's a little bit like the old style rule, you sort the men from the boys out, and the boys went on the wing, and the men started in the middle. Unfortunately, both sides, nobody went on the wing, and we all started in the middle and just battled it out. Directing play, Jones sends O'Neil hurtling forward. A blending of power, strength and instinctive ruggedness is needed by forwards to survive this title punishment, both in attack and defence. The Nullar are getting a goodly share of the ball, but moving up rapidly on the outside, manly force play back into the ruck. Long passes are calculated risks, but the Sharks are endeavouring to swing the ball wide to spread the defence. Bishop calls for the ball, but his kick flies from the side of his boot to Eadie. Slicing through the defence, Eadie's thrust signals danger to Cranulla. Really on the blindside, an overhead pass to Irvine, and he's running free. He tries to step inside Fisher as Pierce comes across and cover the fence, but Fisher has Irvine safely held. McGuire moves in to make sure. Brenningham taken by Watson, but he's ruled offside, and it's a penalty to manly. Eadie's kick is short and wide, but Archer knocks on behind the line, and it'll be a line drop out. Really leaving the field, seeking treatment to an injured right leg and arm. Bishop combining with Watson, who readies himself for a challenge to O'Neill, Peters and Martin, but it's O'Neill who deals out particular treatment. Jones swoops on possession as Bishop indulges in his own brand of attrition. Having received several injections to his injured leg, Really again takes the field. Fending off O'Neill, Madison runs wide, but as taken by Peters and Fulton, O'Neill coming in over the top. Linesman Kellehan comes in to report O'Neill, and it's a penalty to Cranulla. The Sharks continue attacking down the middle, Madison relishing his task. Mazers penalized, incorrectly feeding the scrum, giving Cranulla a seemingly easy chance to open the scoring. Rogers is to take the kick from right in front. Buddy misses it, an expensive blemish in such a match, with points at an absolute minimum. Still the facts battle for supremacy, Hamilton being dazed as O'Neill undertakes another crashing run. Recovering quickly, Hamilton joins in the movement, punting downfield. Fisher fields the ball safely, but Brown ensures the Sharks being kept in their own half. Standing rather shallow, Pnummers backs lack acceleration. Rogers being taken by Fulton before hitting top pace. The alert Fulton brings Archer to ground. A constant threat to Manley, Madison breaks their line with Turner in support. Corcoran backs up, but Turner hangs on to the ball to Corcoran's disgust. The constructive Madison to Bishop to Wellman, but he loses the ball in Randall's tackle. Edie gaining possession and taking play close to the quarter line. The clash of the big men, Watson driving Hamilton back several meters. Held in their territory, Manley through Branigan takes play back into Cranalla's half. Fisher spilling the ball, but covering his laps. Forced to run crab wise, Cranalla's finding penetration difficult. Players halted as there's a disturbance downfield. Watson's doing a great deal of heavy work, but lightweight 5'8 Martin meets him front on. His injuries recurring really leaves the field a second time and is to be replaced by State Representative second rower John Bucknell. Randall will go to lock, Bucknell joining Peters in the second row. Fulton's away, but the pass is rolled forward and a scrum will back down. Manley are finding it hard getting their back line moving, Cranalla chopping off attacking attempts at their source. Peters to Branigan has Manley move inside Cranalla's quarter. Hamilton brought to ground by Bowen as the Seagulls prepare for an all out attack. Standing up in Maguire's tackle, Mayes gets the ball away to Jones. A clever reverse flick pass to Fulton, accelerating through narrow openings, the Mercurial Centre goes in for the games opening try. Here's the try again, Mayes to Jones to Fulton and there's no stopping him. The try for Manley LaRinga, scored by number four, centre three quarter, Robbie Fulton. Eaddy converts as the Seagulls take an extremely valuable five point lead. Does your coffee making miss because you're missing out on something else? Caught between a crazed killer and a slick country cop. Mr. Majestic, Thursday 9.30 10. Their confidence boosted, Manley threatened Cranulla again. Fulton sending Peters away on a block busting burst. His pass meant for Fulton strikes the referee. Clay being automatically halted. As Paige is about to call Fulton for a warning, his attention is drawn to another incident at the point where Peters was tackled. His action a plenty but no ball. Lineman Kellihan helping to restore order is having a busy afternoon. Bishop of course everyone knows is a great little player. He's a fantastic little halfback. Plenty of cheek in him and he'd give no quarter ass for any quarter. But he had Cranulla at peak fitness and they were as keen as any side could be. Back in footballing action, Manley threw O'Neill hammer away. But Cranulla's not yielding. McGuire and Pierce pulling the front row down. Martin tries to straighten the attack only to be closed upon from all sides. Peters from dummy half. So disciplined as Cranulla's defense, Manley lose ground in possession. Mays finally judged line kick gains about 40 meters and the Seagulls are poised for another attack. Manley's ball but Cranulla holds the mouse till half time. Half time in the Cravenfield at 4,000. First grade grand final this afternoon. Manley-Laringo leading Cranulla-Sutherland 5 points to nil. Warren Fisher being assisted by Bishop and flanked by Watson. The gallon fullback played the last 10 minutes with a broken rib and is to be taken to hospital for surgery, his lung having been punctured. He'll be replaced by Ricky Burke, a 19-years-old reserve grade player of considerable promise in his second season with the club. There is a 5-nil lead to Manley-Laringo at half time, but it certainly wasn't over yet. And in the dressing room, Tommy Bishop, that great inspiration to these young players from Cranulla-Sutherland, was whipping them up. And anything could happen in this second half and in fact did. Coming into the game from the kick-off, Fairhead, Burke makes a dash towards the quarter line. Bowen, lacking support, is taken over the top by Randall. Bishop's long pass helps in drawing the defence. Wellman cutting back inside with McGuire in support. Intent on exploiting the strong breeze, Bishop shows confidence in Burke's kicking. The youngster responding in fine style, gaining enormous length. The industrious Randall. His Cranulla counterpart, McGuire, turning in a typical whole-hearted display. Jones, injured in the tackle as Cranulla strives for attack, but they're flat-footed, giving Manley the opportunity to move up in telling defence. Finding more room in which to move, Cranulla muster pace, Madison bursting into Manley's heart. Bishop, wrong puts the defence, Watson recovering the ball to send Wellman into the clear. Manley takes him a metre short of the line. Again, Mazers penalised for incorrectly feeding the scrum, giving Cranulla a strong chance of closing the scoring gap. As Manley win the ball, Branigan positions himself to send Edie coming in as the extra man speeding for the line. Cutting out Fulton, his long pass to Irvine is a stray and a definite try, scoring chances lost. Cranulla endeavour to bury their game, but Manley's keen anticipation foils them to an almost frustrating degree. The vast experience of Bishop is being asserted and he's in every phase of play. Fulton to Branigan to Irvine, who's taken by Wellman. On that particular day we had a bloke called Bob Fulton playing for Manley and Bob's played some great games for the club over the years and some great games for Australia, but I'd say this is probably one of the best games that he's ever played for Manley. He nearly won it on his own. I probably would like to think it was one of the better games I ever played for Manley. Another angle of the play, Edie to Fulton and he beats Rogers to the corner. Manly forwards maintain a relentless pace as Cronulla meet their onslaughts with commendable maturity for a team with a slender experience in this brand of football. Tackling is almost as forceful as in the opening minutes and Cronulla are still in with a chance. Running onto the ball O'Neill tries to smash his way through. He's taken ankle high by Piss. Fulton again, a precision like up and under. Salvaging possession, Bishop is grounded by Irvine. Archer elects to wrap the ball out, beating Hamilton, he's taken by Jones. Now the forwards take over, Watson's strength being invaluable to Cronulla. Emorego for work, McQuire sends Corcoran down the flank and he's hard to bring down, typifying Cronulla's determination. It's still taking two or more tacklers to stop O'Neill. Masterly play by Jones and Fulton's kicking is unsettling the Sharks. He and Pierce collide but there's no damage to either one. Burke and Mays waste for the ball but it's a knock on. Cronulla make a spirited effort inside Manly's quarter, Bishop and Watson prominent. Bishop to McQuire, a glorious pass to Pierce, onto Burke and he scores a try in his initial first grade grand final. Three points the difference, the try once more as Burke takes Cronulla within reach of victory. Burke's try was satisfying for me in that I sort of called the play which led to it. We'd used it the week before in the final against Newtown, I called it and just managed to squeeze a pass to Burke coming into the back line or into the forward play actually, just off the shoulder and he went over to score. It was good for him, you know, his first touch in sort of first grade football was in a try in the grand final, it was great stuff. Jones releases one of the most prolific verbal blasts heard on the Sydney cricket ground. The arrow by either side could cost them the premiership but slight as is Manly's lead, they hold a distinct advantage. They can play a more percentage type game than Ken Cronulla who must take risks if they're to bridge the gap. O'Neil, a major problem to Cronulla bulldozes through and sends Brown on his way. Burke dives desperately checking his momentum and a possible try. The Cronullas and Bishop continue their match long encounter. They've each had big games. A long blindside pass to Fulton but Cronulla's alert to the danger. Peters to Mays who books his change of pace taking Manly a few metres closer with the sixth tackle coming up. Jones, a little up and under, applies maximum pressure but the Sharks hold out. A scrum impingement brings Manly a penalty with an uncomfortable goal kicking rein. Manly guides the bull home for Manly to take a three point lead. But Cronulla strikes back taking play to within 10 metres of the Seagulls line. This could be their last chance. Bishop instigates a move but it breaks down Branigan's snaring possession and Cronulla's chance is gone. With just seconds remaining, Manly takes no risks. Cronulla runs out of time as the Hooters signals the end of the match. Manly winning their second successive Premiership 10 points to 7. The lowest scoring grand final since 1969 when Balmain defeated South Sydney 11 to 2. By scoring both of Manly's tries, Fulton adds to his reputation as the curse of Cronulla. Freddie Jones carried to the presentation on the massive shoulders of Peters and O'Neill. In his 13 seasons with Manly, embracing more than a record 250 games, this is probably Fred's proudest moment. The disappointed Sharks as Rugby League President Mr Kevin Humphries makes the presentation. It was a thrill to play in a game with Kenny Irvine completing his wonderful career and of course Freddie Jones, that was Freddie's swan song as regards Premierships for Manly. He was a great old war horse for Manly Warringah and probably the ugliest man ever to play football, Fred. Particularly when he took his teeth out, but a wonderful player when it came to hooking and it was a great coup for Ken Arthurson, the Manly boss too because he gathered some great players in that club but there was always place in the side if you could perform well and I think I was lucky enough to perform well that year and give me my greatest thrill. The victory brings immense though somewhat sad satisfaction to Ken Irvine who after a first class career of 15 years which included 31 tests for Australia and a try scoring record against Great Britain announces his retirement. In his three seasons with Manly, Ken's been in both Premiership signs. Tommy Bishop seemingly chastising himself but there's no reason for regret. He and his Sharks have played their hearts out. Though they have a long way to go to emulate St George's winning Premiership streak of 11 from 1956 to 1966, Manly are hopeful of doing so. In fact that's their goal and they look to 1974 to take them a step closer. Cronulla Sutherland won the second half 7 points to 5 but it was scant consolation for them but it was something for them to use to build up for later years and they are now a very prominent team in the current competition in Sydney. Let's take a break and we'll be back to show you some of the highlights of the first of the matches in the World Cup in 1957, that wonderful series, the first time ever in Australia and this one between Great Britain and fans. Now he straightens up with a hard run looking for support gets a pass chance a beautiful try here. Sullivan goes in for the putting the ball down. First try also on the match to Great Britain and his Jones kick easy one for him and it's all the way. Great Britain lead seven points to nil. Great start by Great Britain fast and furious the match has been in the first few moments of play. This one goes down. Sydney referee Darcy Lawler moves in talking to the forwards and they go. Stevenson put the ball in for Great Britain won by Great Britain a good pass to Jones Jones on to Jackson to Davies back inside of the center now and the fullback Moses comes flying through now Jones tries to boot the ball through it's picked up nicely by read that read decides to run throws a pass a wild one rather wild one on the outside. Now I'll scrum down again. John puts the ball in one by France decides to run himself can't get his pass away. He's brought down. He'll play the ball. Great struggle for possession here as Great Britain have it again. But the referee gives a penalty kick to France a stamp penalty taken as the tap. Now Great Britain have stolen the ball from them. Ghandi lets it out now how to go towards the wind position a scramble for it again. It may go in a touch here now picked up nicely by little who throws a pass back then it goes loose on the ground picked up eventually by Stevenson Stevenson running across but the referee is playing a knock on there and a scrum is going down. Waiting now to the forward settle down. John throws the ball on the scrum. It's one by France picked up by John gets a pass away to Benos Benos lets it out then and it goes to murky back to Benos again but no flying gives the wrong wrong flying up the wing but he can't do much with it. It's loose on the ground chance again for France they can gain possession but Great Britain have possession again their forwards or playing well have the ball now that it is out and it goes to Prescott who shoots out to Grundy Grundy runs wide thrown a long pass out now and it goes towards Jackson Jackson can't do much with the throws inside towards Jones Jones runs into the center of the field looking for somebody to pass to still running back here. He passes out on the far side of Stevenson Stevenson running across gets his pass away picks a pass inside into Jackson again and Jackson flies for the line here with a hard run tries his pass away. It goes to Boston Boston flying for the line brought down just inches short of the line. He'll play the ball the French forward standing well and surely up so too with the Great Britain players and incorrect play the ball a penalty kick to France but Great Britain have possession again and try to dance his way through as Stevenson. It goes out to Prescott Prescott runs a few places gets a pass away to Grundy at his top and it goes now to Jackson Jackson gets his boot to the ball and kicks for touch and finds it nicely to a very good kick putting Great Britain right on the attack. France win the scrum now and try to break through as rocky roll the the block forward he loses possession though Great Britain have it again as Stevenson takes the ball and starts a good run nicely tackled by the nose. Now Great Britain throw it around in great fashion right after Grundy is playing a great game he lets it out again to Joe to Sullivan Sullivan slam down to the ground though by Houston knock on here yes the scrum is down being won by France picked up by Jean Jean throws a pass back to Reeve Reeve boots the ball ahead and goes right back to Moses Moses takes it nicely though and gets a kick in himself drives it back again taken by murky this time murky slips must be very greasy out there and kicks for touch and finds it though with a good kick. This scrum goes down one by France again and it goes to Benos Benos does a little kick here a chance for them as they go racing throughout the ball but coming back to cover it is Boston he takes the ball cleanly he can't get through though he steps out of that tackle and starts a barging run straight down the centre he's a hard man to bring down. He plays the ball it's hard to pick up loose on the ground it goes right back now to the fullback Moses Moses puts his head down and barges gets a pass away to Jackson Jackson lets it out then to Davies to Stevenson at least Stevenson shoots it out then out across it goes to Jones Jones clapping on the pace here running it out. He's a hard man gets a pass inside just failed to be taken and the French scrum half Jean tries to break through he plays the ball back plays it to Bertomier Bertomier puts his head down and barges Bertomier lets it out again and it goes now to Ferreiro Ferreiro as he's tackled drops the ball Great Britain have possession Stevenson lets it out and it goes towards Davies he can't handle it cleanly Jackson goes for it it's loose on the ground France have it again murky trying to break his way through struggle for possession there with the players there. Diving in on top of one another France still have it though a lofted pass goes back bad pass then straight through the legs of the nose murky tries to get his boot to the ball Jimenez there also Great Britain have it again as Grundy starts boasting his way through trying to fend off a tackle bends off one now Stevenson picks it up runs across towards the centre of the field passes to Prescott now watch how hard Prescott goes hard and straight. Bash down he goes there very solid scrum goes down France still have possession and it goes now to Benosu kicks deep into Great Britain territory to coming back to take the ball as Jones lets it back to Moses the fullback Moses gets his kick in taken nicely by Reeve the French fullback he kicks again this may go out in the full now it's taken by Moses driven back into French territory again Great Britain have possession a chance for them to barge through the forge bashing their way through hard and straight all the time picked up or attempted pick up there by Prescott a whistle goes it's a penalty kick now watch this closely France scores from this one the ball misses seemed to hit a linesman murky races in dives in the ball the Great Britain players protest claiming that the ball hit a linesman first watch the referee Darcy Lawler move up and ask the linesman if it hit him or not you may see his head nodding yes his head nods as he speaks to referee Darcy Lawler but he would not change his decision and there's the kick France have scored five points on the board Great Britain 10 and France 5 there's the kickoff France have the ball but some determined tackling by the Great Britain forward stop any movement picked up by Bertamier who tries to crash his way through they have lost possession of the ball no he still has it right by Prescott he plays the ball back now picked up then by Rocky Roll the block he tries to break through Ferreiro dives out for France France still have it but can't gain much ground this grim tackling by the Great Britain players dump their men down there's a kick by Bernose kicking ahead into Great Britain territory this grumble go down down they go Jean puts the ball in one by France how to go down to Bernose Bernose outside then to Jimenez Jimenez to murky murky ducks underneath the tackle tries to break through then he's dumped down to the ground he plays the ball Frenchmen still have it another kick through by Bernose he does a lot of kicking a chance here for them as they go racing through after the ball Huesong gets to it but he's brought down now he'll play it has murky running down the wing position can't get to the ball cleanly though shot back now attempted field goal by Reeve goes astray goes right across to the far side of the field racing across to take the ball there is Sullivan Sullivan takes it nicely to looking for his wing on that side he passes to Boston Boston starts a great run here but he's tackled solidly to down he goes Great Britain still have the ball and it goes now after their forwards their forwards trying to take play up Grundy has it he passes outside then out it goes to Davies Davies takes the ball nicely trying to position a play here after Stevenson and Stevenson dummies towards Jones and runs in for a beautiful try. Smart try there's Jones kick straight between the posts and Great Britain lead by 15 points to five. The ground was a sea of mud at the start of the second half all churned up by the first half and the players were all just about the one colour and that was a dirty mud brown. A free Darcy Lawler moves in just after the kickoff has penalised Great Britain a penalty kick to France deep into Great Britain territory the goal wasn't kicked though taken by Stevenson who runs through gets a pass out on the outside and now Jackson flies down the centre of the field passes out again a chance here for Great Britain to score their flying for the grey a French line but just short of the line they're dragged down France tackled grimly in the second half Great Britain in possession a lot of the time has Grundy with the ball he shoots a pass back now and it goes to Stevenson again Stevenson runs across gets his pass on the outside to Davies Davies gets his pass away straightens up at the Boston Boston flies for the line he may go in here just short of the line he's brought down and will play the ball referee moves in a penalty kick to Great Britain across the back line it goes now a long lofted pass a chance for them but it's loose on the ground hard to handle this greasy ball and the Frenchman trying to gain possession they've gained possession too a chance for them to clear the ball from their line here played back loosely though Great Britain have dived in and gained possession a chance for them again and it goes now to one of their big forwards who tries to barge his way through can't do so they play it it's loose on the ground picked up by the Frenchman again and once again that ball just can't be handled it keeps slipping out of everyone's hands and of course this is making it very tough for the Frenchman who like to play on hard fast grounds and use their speed and quick handling to win their matches Great Britain have it again here's a great run by Howard Harris Harris dummies can't get his pass away he's caught French defense holds again it goes wide this time here's a chance as Jackson goes through there's a thick pass inside to Boston Boston flying to the line but once again he puts his foot in touch now Boston picks it up and sets sail for the French line this must be close this time now the Englishman let it out again Harris has the ball diving through and twisting he's almost through he's caught from behind a dive tackle brings him down he plays the ball Great Britain still have it now the Frenchman have stolen it from them and are trying to take the play out from their line and he can bet him here with a hard run but he's brought down now racing up with the ball here comes the English attack now ball goes in towards the center of the field Davies gets to his feet place it back goes out to Prescott Prescott lets it out again and it goes to Jones Jones comes through running as hard as he can try to position Boston passes to Boston Boston steps it off his left foot a chance to go over here yes he goes in that was a good try by Boston Boston will pick the ball up we'll see him pick the ball up and take it up to the kicker is Jones kicking for goal Great Britain have scored again it's a poor kick though but Great Britain is leading by 18 points to five Great Britain hammering away all the time having a lot of possession and almost going over a number of occasions keeping the Frenchman defending grimly throughout the match is another great run Jackson going for the line can't quite get in there's a long pass in field taken by Jones Jones dummies gets a pass inside that was almost a winner but it just bounced out of his teammates hand now Harris straightens up with a hard run he brought down also France just can't master this English style of football they're playing grandly the English side and look like winning all over they attack again in they swing with all men swinging into position setting sail for the French line only a few seconds left in the match now referee blows his whistle cap penalty now he signifies the game is all over and Great Britain has won Great Britain has won this World Cup rugby league match the first in the series both Bert and Patty like the idea Dame Joan and Slim agree David Doug Rolfe Bobby and Dawn think it's grand they're spreading the message across the land now you can get them at official post offices stock brokers or banks $20 will get you started and your country will say thanks and when you need your money back there's no questions asked a month is all it takes you get your money fast if you want attractive rates up to 12 and a quarter percent it's in your own interest so it makes a lot of sense Ozzie Bonds, Ozzie Bonds, Ozzie Bonds, Ozzie Bonds, the savings bonds backed by Australia Ozzie Bonds, Ozzie Bonds, Ozzie Bonds trust Campbell's to do it, trust Campbell's to do it, trust Campbell's to do it the best of winter soups, so warm and hearty the best of winter soups, Campbell's vegetable soups the best of winter soups.
