surge rise Hold on! Speed, Sunday, 8.30 on 7. The 1998 AFL Premiership Season, proudly brought to you by Ultratune. Sip and save. The Advertiser. Amy. And Mitre 10. Oh, all of that! Oh, I'm ready, I love Dale. Oh, look at that! It's time for the screamer. Well, that picture may show a pretty barmy harbour city. I've got some news for you though. El Nino has been at work and it has thrown a cat amongst the pigeons because it's been raining heavily here in Sydney for at least the past hour, but it hasn't stopped the crowds. Another monster crowd here at the SCG. Despite the rain, despite the threat of thunder and lightning, they are pouring in for what has turned out to be another knockout final. It's just a couple of hours though, there will only be four to fight it out for the 1998 flag. Yes, good evening everyone and welcome to the SCG. As I said, another knockout final this time. It's the Sydney Swans. They love close ones up here, especially finals, and the Adelaide Crows, but the conditions have not been at all kind. In the Adelaide rooms, well, it's going to be interesting. They've brought up 22 players and they've got a number of talls in this side. Is that going to have a disastrous effect on the side in these conditions? Time will tell on that. Sydney Swans on the other hand, also preparing themselves for another knockout final. Tony Lockett kicked only one last week against Wakeland who was superb. There you can see Tony Troy Cook coming into this lineup too, and he will be determined to put on a marvellous effort tonight. Joining me once again, one of the legends of the game, Lee Matthews. Disappointingly about the conditions. We can do nothing about that, but it's certainly going to play a part. I was just doing some calculation to how many marking players are in either side. I reckon the Crows have probably got six, maybe seven players that really won't be able to mark the ball if it's really wet and damp. I think the Swans maybe have only got three or four, so I think these conditions are probably going to suit the home side a little more. In other words, you're saying it's been a great even upper? Well, I think the Swans, I must admit I tipped Crows going into the game, but I think in these conditions I certainly would change my tip to the Swans. I think their side is more suited to a wet weather slog, which looks like what we are going to have this evening. Yes, there you can see, expecting an overnight low of 15, so it's certainly not cold, but the rain looks as though it has set in. Klager booted only one last week. As I said, Wakeland did an excellent job on him. He finished up going down the ground. He's got an interesting record though, hasn't he, as a Saint and as a Swan against Adelaide. It's just quite amazing, isn't it, how he's averaging in the Secura Guernsey against the Crows. 5.4 per game as we see there, but in the Swans Guernsey only 2.0. I'm not exactly sure the reason for that, but maybe it's just as Klager's got a little bit older, as he has with the Swans, has not had as many big days and maybe had a few downers against the Crows. Well, the word is that Mr Pittman is going to get the job on him coming back into the Crows line-up. They've got three premiership players coming back into this Crows side tonight. So we're just about set to go. Don't worry about the forecast. Rain, thunder and lightning. Just buckle up, enjoy it in the lounge room. We're going to be in for a hot night here at the SCG. Just come on in, cause we've got it all. It's a semi-final, and we're ready for... Oh, how stupid can you get? Hi, Stinky! Goodness gracious. This is laughable. Just gets worse and worse. Now a Blue Heeler's doing something stupid. Only Channel 7 can unleash this much stupidity. What have you got for us, then? Toyota bravely presents Something Stupid. For one word to side of you, Kim. Bundaberg Premium, please. So you're off to the fancy dress party then, are you? Nah, we're having the neighbors round for a few drinks. Bundaberg Premium, when there's a good time brewing. Welcome back to the Sydney Cricket Ground. Sydney Swans players just coming out. Tony Loggin was the first one down the race. He would have seen the rain, he would have seen the mud. And then came the Adelaide Crows. Will Darren Jarman start at full board? That could be an interesting question. Put him high in this line-up. But it's going to make it for a real scraggly affair, but I'm sure a very, very close one. Also joining Lee Matthews and myself tonight, Bruce McAnady, and a warm welcome to Jason Dunstall. Boys, good evening. Thank you, Sandy. Good evening. Jason, I've got to preface it with an apology because we look back on these two sides, and in particular this ground, close matches. There are three finals. They've all been decided by this in the kick. You watched one with Hawthorne lying on your back in the dressing room. It wasn't a great one. Back in 1996 we actually got beaten by a point, but that was the first time I did my knee. And it was very difficult to sit there and lie on the bench and watch such a close game come down to the wire. Darren Creswell took a mark in the square at the end and kicked the winner. All right, boys. Well, with Lee, let's have a look at the sides. Before we do that, we might just have a look at their earlier meeting, which was in round 14. The Adelaide Crows have a very good record coming to this ground, so that holds no fears at all for them whatsoever. Let's have a look now at those scores from round 14, and you may remember some of these highlights. After round 14, the Crows had just beaten the Swans and pushed them back down the ladder three runs when Rodney Ead offered this. I really think Adelaide are still the team to beat. I think really that the skill level they've got, they've got some super skilled players and they've got some real talent and they play with that intensity. They're going to be very hard for any team to beat. The coach of the most accurate team in front of goal went on to say... There's not many blokes on their side that can't hit a team mate from 40 metres away. Yeah, I think they're as good a threat as anybody to win the fling. Blight was having none of that. Back-to-back flags brought a strong retort. I've never been involved in it, I wouldn't have included it, and that's perfectly honest. But strong finishes by the Swans were on his mind. Particularly up here, they've had some barnstorming finishes. Like a six-point win in 96. Any score to put Sydney in front of the goal would be more than half. Then getting into a grand final after the siren. What a finish, any score. Otherwise we'd wait extra time. Lock it, the most important kick in his career. Any score will do. Kick-kicks, the final! And last week, half a metre from defeat. With my blade in beautifully. Still nippies there, still nippies there. He's just piston. Tonight, someone runs out of luck. While the other advanced seven days, flying the national football flag. Well, if this one is as close as any one of those three tonight, Bruce, we're going to be in for a clinker. I think it will be close, but I agree with Lee. I think the Swans now have shortened up because of the conditions. Now, this last game they played up here had fond memories for me because I suggested they played with a good foot. And on talking footy, I was completely boot-hered. Jase, is there good and bad footies or not? I was just mistaken with that theory. I think you're spot on, Lee, without a shadow of a doubt. Actually, there's been a lot of talk, Lee, this weekend about this game. There's been a lot of psychological ploys going on. Blighty started very early in it when he said goodbye to Tony Modra. If you wanted to ignite a flame under the side, probably not a bad way to do it. Well, that was an interesting strategy. I guess the theory was that there was going to be a lot of publicity when Modra was left out of the team, so do it on Monday or Tuesday and get that distracting publicity potentially out of the way. That's the only reason one would think of doing it on Monday as opposed to the normal selection on Thursday night. Boys coming across for the national anthem. David Pittman, what a key player he's going to be. Well, there you can see Tony Lockett with Paul Ruse. Jason, should they go down, we'll be saying farewell to Rusey. Yeah, look, he's had an outstanding career. He's been superb for so many years. The experience that he's provided to the Sydney team up here has been, I think, invaluable, and certainly his experience tonight will also count, even though he might spend the entire game on the ground. So let's begin official proceedings now with the national anthem about to commence here at the Sydney Cricket Ground. It's not far off being a full house. Our master of ceremonies is Craig Willis. Ladies and gentlemen, Australian football, Megan Kohler, welcome you to the SCG for the second semi-final in the final series for 1998. Would you now please be upstanding for the national anthem to be performed by Tim Draxall. Australian national anthem playing Australian national anthem Several major milestones for players tonight. Dale Lewis has reached his 150th. That's a fantastic achievement for him, playing his 100th game as Troy Lough has had a wonderful season and recently became a dad, and playing his 50th is Matthew Nix. So well done to those three boys. Jason, what about the effect, the weather on Lockett at full forward? Well, certainly that's going to take away a lot of his effectiveness and I think his ability to probably win the game for Sydney, and it's unfortunate, but it's just going to be a hard grind for the big four tonight. It's interesting, though, they do happen to have a side that doesn't look to have too many real tall mark-up eyes. Look at Lockett at full forward, probably a staff in the rough choice, but mostly other players, maybe Dugdale isn't, he's a sprawling player, but much of their other players are sort of second effort ground level players as well like that. Well, you're certainly going to need that because the majority of the game will be played at ground level. The ball will be hitting the deck a lot. It's just a matter of getting the body behind the ball and pushing it forward. I wonder if they had a choice now whether Adelaide would have Wren, Marsh and Pittman all in the slot. I guess they'd pick Pittman specifically for the role at full back, although I guess you never know until they line up. They certainly look a little bit tall up front with Robbren and Marsh, also Caven up there. I mean, we might see a change very early on, maybe a couple of the smaller players come on. Well, I guess that's where the 20-man interchange is all about. A 22-man team, I should say, but I reckon a couple of big blokes from each side will probably be on the bench for most of the night. To selections, gentlemen, firstly, Jason, what do you think? In a tight one, I think the one thing that the weather will ensure us is a good, close, tight contest. I'll go with the home side, the Sydney Swans. Lee? I'm going to jump my midweek selection, which was the close. I'm going to jump onto the home team. Brucey? I'm from South Australia, Sandy. I'm sticking. There's a bit of symmetry about tonight. Three South Australians and three Hawks in the telecast. Yes, well, as I live very close to you, here we go. This is a knockout final, remember. The loser says farewell, and the only thing they've got to look forward to is pre-season. And Sandy McLeod has gone to the opposite end of the field from which he started last week. He's gone into the forward attacking goal screen. So it is the Sydney Swans going to the right of screen. Jarman is at the other end of the ground. O'Farrell gets the first effective tap. Creswell tried to sock it off the ground. Costa also. Lewis in game number 150. Tyson pushes him towards the line. Johnny Stevens tries to slap it clear, but it goes straight to Wren. Picks it up and pumps it up to half-forward. The Crows are looking for a quick start. It's a high ball. Up towards full-forward, Wren Tull's kick was good. But now the Sydney defenders standing firm. Nitz, McPherson, those two players have been very, very good all season. Back towards the middle. Cook attacks Wren. Creswell sockets off the ground. Back in towards the middle once again. Could have been a push. No, it's the umpire. No mark taken. McCloud gets caught, tries to storm his way through. He goes again. Trying to lock him up then was McPherson. Couldn't get an effective tackle. It's going to be tough. Pittman eventually got it out. Sock it off the ground by Seymour. Smart. Couldn't take it. Will go again. Schwas. Swung. Smart goes to ground. And look at Balandia. Those little legs, they can't pump there. I think we've seen the way the game is going to be played very early. Any possession you get is going to be under pressure, and your footing is going to be treacherous. Still in the middle. Wren. Pittman. Wren going for a roundhouse right. Hart unable to take it for a shooter. We'll be looking for a big final here. Cook was also there. Now Costa. Picks it up from the defensive side of centre. Goes up towards half-board. Robyn was at the back. He was unable to take it cleanly. Troy Lough tumbles it wide. It'll spin towards the line. Towards our boundary riders who are down there in Dipper and Curl. Boys, are you with us? Certainly am, Marston. Another breath of wind down here, but the rain has sort of ceased a little bit. Obviously the ground is very, very wet. We'll catch up with the benchers in a moment. Thanks, Dip. Stafford and Wren together. Seymour against the tide there. Caught up early. He's getting one for a high tackle. Mappenblatt made a point of saying that the first 10 or 15 minutes were going to be vital here. He wanted his team to make a statement. In these conditions it's going to be pretty tough to do much. But just hang on for a while. As Seymour's kicked the centre wing. O'Farrell, good mark. Against Caven. He worked his way cleverly. He's a very promising player. We talked about him last week. Lee, you saw him up here against the Crows, but Mark had a beauty, but this young fellow can play. O'Farrell inside 50. O'Loughlin is going to be a key. Goodwin with him. Goes through Mooney. Back to Smart. Straightens the body. Kick in the factual. Taken by Rasciuto. Paddles it. It was a bit of a throw. Mooney got it to Stephens. Smart quickly on to Stephens. Rasciuto. As Sandy mentioned, I think he was talking about the fact that he was very much down last week and wants a big one here. And it'll be a boundary throw. No score. And it was very interesting to see Jason Mooney's run the band marsh with full forward all the way down to the half-back line. Pitman. O'Farrell in fact came over the top. Schwoz gets a hurried little kick. Well, didn't travel the required distance. So Plane was the call. That was Jamison who's come back into this side. Humpires, incidentally, tonight. Chris Mitchell, Scott McLaren and Nash. As Schwoz from Palamio. They go in towards Lockett. He uses the body. McCloud is there. He tries to sock off the ground. Only travels the short distance. Tyson gets claimed. He's swung clear. Costa once again is able to get the hand past the heart. From centre-half back, he spirals apart up towards half-board. Oh, that's a good mark. Great mark taken by Mark. They'll do his confidence for all the good, but he's pinned him. Well, what do you think, Lee? Well, I must admit I was just looking at the match-ups, but I guess it was pretty, pretty soft, I think, by the umpire then to pull it up. There's going to be a lot of body contact as players really have trouble keeping their balance. That was Mooney to Cook. Now it's Rashido to Hart. Going nowhere and another ball up. Sandy just to catch up with the benches for Sydney, we've got Paul Ruse, Strewie Maxfield, Jason Sandington and Jarrah Crouch. Next step. So throw-up. Wren got over the top. Rashido smothered by Schwoz. Back to Stafford. Kick across the ground. Taken by Jamison. Straightens up. Bangs to centre-half. For Jarman at the back. Nearly dutifully. Jarman couldn't quite. Dutifully and Robb and well played. Dutifully. Edwards ricochets off. Open goal. Vardy goes and puts it through. Crows get the first. Goal kicking half forward. Today we're going to show you how to maintain the tools in your workshop. Sunday. That isn't used oil. Well, you don't want to use too much oil, Tim. With Tim there's never too much. Alright, see how it sounds now. Home improvement. Sunday, 7.30. Then at 8 o'clock. You can't expect me to be at your beck and call night and day. I'll be at your beck and call night and day. At Cardascape is boss. Tim wants to get in touch with you. He'll find a way. I can't believe you would hunt me down like this. You can hunt me down anytime, sir. Working after home improvement. Sunday on 7. Great start for Peter Vardy. O'Farrell tries a mighty belt. But it's Caven who slaps it back towards half forward. Renner little toe poke. Unsuccessful. Vardy was in the thick of things once again. Rintel went steaming over the top. And there's going to be a free kick to Sydney to be taken by Nix. Playing in his 50th game. In fact, it'll go to Wharf. He's on half back. The Sydney defence being tested early. Very heavy rain. Probably an hour before the game started. Thunder and lightning as well. Wharf wants Cook. One of those excitement machines has come back into this line-up. Vardy socks off the ground and spins it back. Probably pushing Adelaide 15 metres away from its danger zone. Just a couple of match-ups around the midfield. Koster has picked up Kreslin. Stevens has picked up Machuto. They're the main midfield tags at this very early stage. Stafford and Aran. And they'll probably have to do the same thing once more. Sandy interchanged for Adelaide. James Connell, Elm Stevens. Thanks, girls. Having a look at them now as you speak. And another throw in. Just in Sydney's attacking zone. Wren thrown out of the way by Pittman. Now down towards O'Loughlin and Lockett. Lockett came steaming out. O'Loughlin at the back. He spins the goal! That's what Michael O'Loughlin can do! That just shows an incredible awareness of the goals, doesn't it? To be able to pick it up in the one movement. To know where they are. Yes, he just really made the goal out of nothing. That wasn't even a half chance. I wouldn't have thought Lockett hit the pack hard. And we see O'Loughlin just got caught behind the ball or in front of the ball. Just dribbling through his hands and almost through the legs. It was knowing where the goal is. That was a lot of weight hitting the ball. Lucky he didn't get reined up by Pittman in the first place, Lee. In his own place, that's where he was standing in front of him. Well, we saw Farmer today, I think, make the difference when it was tied early. And O'Loughlin last week was so important. They've become two of the absolute keys in this final series. As Rashido goes forward for the Crows. So it scores a level here. Marsh off the ground and going through for a behind. So the Crows lead by a single point, 7-6. Yes, the Crows, of course, have started Marsh. A very tall player in their forward line. And of course, as you mentioned, Swans have got a foul across half-forward. They really aren't the type of players you would think would be suited as this game developed. And Caven is going to run off a foul. You would have thought that both coaches decided to keep a bit of height on the ground. So nobody has beaten Sydney since the Crows did it in Sydney since round 14. Staff have got it very, very short. Still in the back pocket. Measures it. It's OK to Lewis at centre-half back who had a fantastic game last week. A handball over the top, OK to McPherson who was important. Left hand hand was a good one. Releases. A handball over the top from Wark was good. To Stephens running through. Slip as he kicked. The ball goes into the pocket. Getting back there. Good one. He's got the job in her lock-in. And she's got play on call. High tackle. Goes to Bickley. Now, Bickley's kicked Tyson at the sit-and-wait for a while. Gets a second go. Is Orchard over in it. Uses Caven. Caven's reflex handles a beauty. Releases. Rashido at half-back. Running through centre-wing. Rashido has a look down to half-forwarders. Lightning surrounds this ground. Seymour defends. It's a goal apiece. As Dale Lewis chips up towards centre-wing. That's going to be OK. Orchard once again has the opportunity to put his side into attack. The youngster goes up towards left half-forward. Bickley's in the way. And the crows skip at a fence. One point in it. He kicks back towards centre-wing. A good attempt by Seymour to mark. Unable to hold it. Vardy tumbled a punt up towards half-forward. Big fly by Jarman. Unable to take the catch. And there's going to be a free kick. It's coming back. Dunfoy Nash is going to bring it back. Could have been some holding on. And when he jumped Jarman, the left arm was I think on top of... A little too high. ...Dunkley's shoulder. And it's interesting that Dunkley is actually... ...that high tackle there. But Dunkley is actually staying on Jarman in that defensive match-up. Andrew Dunkley kicks back towards centre-wing. It's slapped over the back-line. Bound in these conditions. That's as good as a kick. Adelaide, however, have the numbers at the fall of the ball. That was Bigley. He gave him the half, but he couldn't handle the slippery ball. Almost threw it out to Pittman. David Pittman spirals a punt back towards half-forward once again. The Sydney defence will sucker off the ground. They do. Only as far as centre-wing. McLeod can't get clear. The tackle was good by Nix. He was the man who kicked it up there. Back up towards the forward line. The danger zone once again. Tyson Edwards. Jarman does well. Rashido can't get there in time. And it's slapped to the line. Well done by Daniel McPherson. We've got to throw in in the left-forward pocket. Yes, that was almost a goal, wasn't they? Just about. That hand pass just missed its target. It's one thing to hand pass out in front. But just got to allow Rashido to run into the ball, which didn't quite happen. Marstaffer got rid of him pretty easily and belts it away. Not too often Jarman misses the target in those situations. A lock-in tap over the back. Cook crashes through Rintol. Holding on Rintol. Free kick. Coming back to Cook. Swans have had a good run early. I'm not saying that wasn't there. But they've had three or four free kicks. A couple of them I reckon have been a bit sus. But Cook's got it at centre wing. Bruce, what we're seeing here is the goals will be very, very hard to get. And easy shots for goals. If they miss tonight, that could cost the side. Neil Curley and Robert Deer-Vitamini go on the boundary. Cook cut off by Tyson. And playing short can also be pretty dangerous tonight. Tyson straight back to Seymour. Interfere with by Nicks. Handball over the top by Edwards. Only as far as left. McLeod ran across the leg and forced him to kick wide. The race is on. Swans off the ground. Doesn't get him to the boundary line. And Ghost gets a free kick. It's coming back to Swans. So it's seven free kicks to Ciro here. And I think Neil Curley might be keeping count down there. As I can just hear, his Swans kicks the centre wing. I thought it was nine. It's only the first quarter. Just settled down. There's a lot to come yet. As Sydney go down towards the half-bord line once again, Goodwin comes out. Takes a diving mark on the chest. Simon Goodwin's away from half-back. He lopes clear. Goes up towards Rodren at half-bord. Seymour is right there with him. Neither able to take the mark. Pittman tries to sucker off the ground. Wren is there. But goes straight through just like tunnel ball. Look at that. There's three or four of them surrounding him. Picked up by Creswell. Pumps it high. There's been a whistle. Back it comes. And Curls. A news flash for you. A free kick going the way of Adelaide Crows to be taken by Tyson. Here's the lead of Rashido amongst the water. He skis some 25 metres, but he's got it. Those low chest marks, Jason, those bulls were already going to be a bit like a cake or so. It certainly would be a little bit heavy, and it's interesting to see Mark Rashido changing with Darren Jarman down at the full forward position. It's like the old firm in a way. Is it that that's part of September last year for the Crows? It's interesting. He's taken the runner away with the towel, got him out of it. He wanted to wipe the footy for Rashido. Bruce, these are the shots that could decide the game because there will not be a lot of shots for goals by all the team tonight. Hasn't kicked a goal in the final, and he's played in four finals. Quick kick then for the Adelaide Crows. Mark Rashido from 44 metres. It's low. It's long. It's a very good kick by Mark Rashido. Very good kick. Here's a Mitre 10 paint specialist, and here's the Mitre 10 spring catalogue, full of great home and garden ideas, from the store that guarantees its prices won't be beaten. It's out now, so come on in and save. WHISTLE It all started with Jim and two McDonald's Quarter Pounders. And now it's here, McDonald's Double Quarter Pounder with cheese, with two beef patties and three slices of cheese. Only McDonald's Double Quarter Pounder with cheese is the official burger of the AFL. Big play by Rashido. It wasn't at the mark in the goal. So 2-1 to a goal here. Crows by seven points, so Farrell gets over Marsh. Little handball by Orchard was effective to Creswell. Creswell has had a huge last six weeks since Kelly's injury. O'Loughlin out wide. His dual and foot is going to be a pivotal one in this match. Stephens gets in, hands and knees, literally, then just pokes it out to Creswell. Costa gets over the top. Tyson did well because he controlled the leg and just pushed it out. Lewis went to ground with him, Jamison, and sliding in there was Philanian. What do you think of the situation in the Crows forward line where they're trying to play the real big mark in play along? I would have thought Rashido and Jarvan won out and might have been just the medicine for the night. Yeah, probably would be. I think they're giving Wren a bit of a spell. He's been pushed around by Stephens. O'Loughlin was in the hands of the trainer a moment ago. He looked a bit groggy. He's picked himself up and a boundary throw and had left far. He's now gone to the ball. Rashido at full force. Obviously, Rashido's body work against Dunkley could work better. So Michael O'Loughlin, who, as I said a moment ago, looked pretty groggy and was being worked on. Everybody's hoping that he's OK. He brings so much to any football match. Taken by Orchard, turns cleverly, back to Philanian, under pressure, boot to the pocket, heart almost, locker gets in very hard, Ben Hart, boundary throw. Dangerous time here for the Crows. It should be able to control his rough duties against Marsh. There's Michael O'Loughlin, maybe where he hurt himself, especially with his teammate Johnny Stephens sliding in there. Now he's up and let's hope he's OK. Hart, Cavern, Cavern has scragged, loses it, lock it off the ground. Can he go again, the big man? He can't, another big man can. There he's kicked it! The Crows! Swans have done well here, haven't they? Both O'Loughlin and O'Farrill have been able to scramble goals against the tight. And they certainly keep right in touch. Smart tries to push forward. So pretty good signs for both clubs here. Adelaide with the general play, but the Swans against the flow. Cook gets a free kick in the centre. As Neil said a moment ago, Stafford against Marsh would be important. And Stafford did get his hand on that ball in the forward pocket. Cook gives it everything he's got. Goes to centre half forward, O'Farrill a target. Built it away by Caveman. Taken by O'Loughlin. Tries to get it to Orchard. Orchard to full forward. Lock it, frontspot. Uses his bop. Well done by Pittman. Tyson runs it over and scores a level here as he crashes into the fence. A couple of interesting match-ups here, which I guess are a little unusual. Jamison is actually picking up Dale Lewis. And then Smart is picking up Swash, which is just a little... He's following him into the centre square. So it looks like Malcolm Blythe has set specific match-ups for a number of his players. Jam, and he's kicked it straight to Swash here. And Swash has made a meal of it. Unfortunately for him, fallen over just when he didn't want to. And Smart belts it wide. Rodbrin and also Lough, Edwards and Seymour. It'll be a boundary throw-in. So 2-1 apiece here. Rossino and Vardy, the goal scorers for the Crows. O'Loughlin and O'Farrill, the goal scorers for the Swans. Let's have a look at Wayne Swash's acrobatics there. Unsuccessful in holding it, but very, very difficult conditions for all players tonight. Ren and Pittman, under 10 minutes remaining in this first quarter. And again in that throw-in. A ruck infringement according to the umpire. It's gone the way of Sidney. Nine free kicks to one at the moment. It's a big, big stat, isn't it? It is. At this stage of proceedings, he kicks down towards left half forward. Kaven is in the way. It's sockered down the ground. And we'll have a throw-in. Sidney in attack. Scores level. Darren Creswell. Well, since Paul Kelly departed the scene with a knee so much as fallen on this man's shoulders. And he's accepted the responsibility. Done well, Darren Creswell. Marsh and O'Farrell to the young guns. Swash couldn't take it. Another ball up. And Mark Orchard wearing 24 for Sidney. Sidney have got six players that have played every game so far this year. Adelaide have had a few more problems this year than last year. They've only got three. Tyson Edwards goes steaming through the middle there. But last but not least Seymour sockers up the ground. Back it comes towards Mooney straight through his arm. So Nigel Smart says let's get it out of here. We'll push it towards Robrind. He's going to be claimed. And is defensively pushed over the line. Brad Seymour. There'll be a throw-in. Very much forward football tonight. Isn't it ground level if you can, you're not going to be able to pick the ball up and evade the tackle. You've just really got to get it running forward whether it's a knock forward, punch forward, quick kick forward. That's just going to, that mood is just going to count. Rintoul in trouble. Robrind running out of room and also support. Sidney having the numbers. Picked up by Creswell. He belts it back towards Sandiwink. Vickley unable to take it cleanly. Eventually it lands with Nigel Smart from Vardy up towards half-four. Don't want it home and Dale Lewis takes the mark at half-back. Goes laterally to Creswell. It's in a half-back. Now he's forced to go here. Comes back the other side. He's got a number of players to choose from and Seymour's got it at half-back. Scores level here. 2-1 apiece. Good opening to a game under very difficult conditions. Stafford, neat little kick along the line to Wharf. He spent it before he took it. Vardy onto him. Wharf over the top. Taken by Cook. Handball to Stafford. It was cut off again by Rintoul. Jarman Topo, clever. Found the line. Boundary throw in. Outside of the right foot. Wasn't terrific soccer skills there. And I must say, Lee, there's a lot to like about Greg Stafford's game at the moment. Once again, they've been forced to push Wren forward because he's just getting out-bustled and hasn't really had an impact on the game at all. Very skillful player too, isn't he? When he's one of those ruck. A bit like Peter Everett, they can kick the ball well to position. Smart going against him. So Stafford with a huge advantage there. Sat beautifully for Schwas running onto it. Well done by McLeod who was so quick to get to Schwas and then held him up. Creswell's in trouble down here on the boundary line. Who was it, Diver? Creswell. So that's the other way of getting him now on screen. I know Schwas probably, sorry, picking at this Creswell. Did you see what happened to him? No, not at all. Okay, so we'll keep an eye on that. Darren Creswell in trouble for Sean McLeod. Cleverly to Robyn. Robyn well inside, 50, about 30 from home. Wren went early. Seymour very good. Got it to Luff. Luff belted it away. Now Orchard can really go here. And Tyson's going to have to go with him. Orchard, soccer off the ground. Taken by Guggen. Creswell comes from the ground. Will keep you under pressure there by Robyn. Should have taken it. We'll let you know what's happening there. Costa out wide. Gives it cleverly to Jamison. Jamison controls it. And James has got it. He held it up well, Jamison. He could have blazed from 48. Creswell's come from the ground. We can see him in the top left hand screen. He's certainly either winded or maybe concussed it. I can't quite see what. It looks like a concussion there. Luff might hit the pack very hard. James just came on so he's got those dry hands. And that was a terrific mark in front. Couldn't think of anyone that went off the ground worse than Creswell on a night like tonight. He's going to be so important to them. So James to kick for goal from 35 metres out. No problems with the angle. He keeps it low and they like it. He's got it. Win an AFL family trip to London by making your selection for the Cadbury AFL Mark of the Year. Good news for Adelaide with Brett James getting his first finals goal. Bad news for Sydney with Darren Creswell and all sorts of bother on the bench. Marsh tries to get a kick away. It's going to come back. It's another Sydney free kick in the middle. It's going to come to Dale Lewis. Sandy, the reason that Mark of James was so good with his first touch, he hadn't felt the ball before then. He didn't know how slippery it was and he controlled the mark beautifully. He did, yep. Just coming off the bench. Thanks, girls. The Lewis kick goes down towards the right half board. Johnny Stevens and Hart lead in the race. Taken out of it, how will they take each other out? This opens the door for Matthew Nicks. Philandia about to stop. It's just stuck up the ground. And he does. They'll have to go again. It's in the square. It's close. Is it a goal? A lot of a fix it is. Yes! Well, Sandy, I'd love to explain what it was, but I didn't see it myself. There was just a flurry of bodies in the goal square and water was flying everywhere. And the Crows players, they were trying hard to force it through. We'll get a terrific picture of it from this angle. Oh, that's a good shot. Let's have a look. Well, there were bodies and arms and legs, but all that matters is the goal. I thought it came off O'Loughlin. I thought someone had fallen off their skis. Gio Loughlin, four goals against Conywood, four last week in the final against the Saints and two here early. And both of his goals have been quite remarkable in the opening turn. The Swans stay in, very much in. McPherson's hand was a good one. Releases Maxfield. Maxfield high to the pocket. Who can get under it? Smart leads. Bounce reasonable for him. Pushes towards the line. Goodwin held his call. It was good play. To Cavan. Cavan gets distance, but only as far as Swass. He drops another one. Gets back onto it. Under pressure. It's slack there by Swass because he's been turned it over here, taken by Rodbrin to McLeod. McLeod with a chance here. He's normally accurate. Goes to the pocket half-volley. It was good by Rasciuto. Has to concede a lot of ground. Bad kick across the ground. What a James Lewis got in there. James in hard. Bull comes back out. An important play. Well done by Red. Better known by Philanier in there. McPherson, I should say. Push forward again by the Crows. That by Jamison. Then Lewis off the ground. It's good footy. Heart's outnumbered here. Warts with him. He's got to keep his call heart. Doesn't do it all that well. Steven's able to take it off him. Uses Lewis. Lewis goes to ground. Wants the boundary line. Doesn't quite get it. Still in play. Cook and Jamison. Comes out to Smart. Good footy. Smart around the body. McPherson should lap it up. He does it. He's quickly on. From centre wing. He has a look down towards half-four. The big guns are down there. O'Loughlin for Lambie. O'Loughlin leads in the race. Smart's on his hammer. He's got him. O'Loughlin gets booked to ball. He's got him. Goodwin kicks it back towards centre wing. A chance once again for Dale Lewis. He's stopped. He's stammered. He's stalled. James is able to tackle him. Lewis goes again. It's suddenly gone up a cock despite the condition. James gets crunched. Maxfield to plays. Come on for Creswell. The advantage is paid. Jarman's away. He cruises down the wing. He looks in towards half-four. An opportunity now for the crows. Peter Barty is 51 metres out. Doesn't get it. He's got to keep his call heart. Doesn't quite get it. Doesn't quite get it. Doesn't quite get it. Doesn't quite get it. Doesn't quite get it. Doesn't quite get it. Doesn't quite get it. Doesn't quite get it. Doesn't quite get it. Doesn't quite get it. Doesn't quite get it. Doesn't play his way. Looks down. He went early. Duckley's right there with him. To find transmission. Jarman is over the line. Yea. They're coming after it. He just gets hit to cover it with it. Hans talking. cycle, not planned to use that way, really. David Thomas recovered his frame. Mars is down 11 collected 10 rebounds. Maxfield cosmos is degree Fuhrman has to walk away fromなんか that's his cup of tea. Company's from hard labor. Luke Whitehouse is down c sister. Glasses out. He has exceptional vision doesn't he? Creswell does not look at all well. I wonder if he knows where he is. The snap in towards goal. It goes across the face does it? Or is it there? It's there. Adelaide's speed file of shame. 152 kilometres an hour. Turning suburban roads into death traps. 172 in the 60 zone. The highest one we've had. Clocked at more than 180. More than 200 kilometres an hour. Find out Monday on 7 Nightly News. On Today Tonight, bosses spying on their workers. Employers have got a free rein to do it. Bugging phone calls. Watching with secret cameras. We've found things that we would really rather not have found. A particular area of concern for all workers. Monday on 7. Good game of footy isn't it? 3-1 to 4-1. We've seen a number of highlights early. Wren goes in and gets it. Jamison Paul kick off the side of his boot at 50 metres. Nixon McCloud, McCloud becoming important. Held onto, no free kick. Nick's over the top, Paul goes out. Jamison did very well. He stood and waited. But Maxwell was on to him in a hurry. And it'll be a ball out. Bruce, the town of Creswell has been looked at. The doctors are just waiting for him to recover from that concussion. But at this stage it looks like he won't be back on the ground. Thanks, Devin. Jamison back. He hasn't played much footy in the last half of this season. Is Wren Tull really banished? Gio Stafford, that's worth a kick tonight. Belts it wide. Philandia has to concede some ground. Orchard. Over the top of Orchard there. Croes and Jarman also. And it's going to be a bounce at centre wing. Bruce, a lot of thought must be given by the players tonight. The way they approach the ball on the pack. They give away a lot of free's if they come in recklessly. Neil Curley and the Big Dipper on the boundary tonight. Jason Dunsel and Liam Matthews up here with Sandy and myself. As Schwoz goes off the ground. And does pretty well there. Gets it about 40 metres down the line. And it'll be a boundary throw in. So the Swans trail bar goal. In a very entertaining opening quarter. Lachlan's kicked a couple of goals. One of them that was a bit of magic. And the other one, well, we're still trying to work out. There's Wayne Schwoz. The only player on the Swans team who's played in the Premiership north a couple of years back. Croes have got 17 out there tonight from last year. Hart's got hold of it. Quickly onto the boot. And bangs long to centre half forward. Mark just dropped there by. And Nicks wasn't easy. Croes won it but over the shoulder. And the Swans get another free kick. It's 11 to 1, the free kick count, which is very, very unusual. Under three minutes remaining. Nicks comes wide towards centre wing. Stevens may leave this for Lewis. But he's going to need assistance because Marsh did well. Marsh had to beat a couple. He tried to lock it up. Eventually Stevens gets clear. Down towards Lockett on the half volley. Unable to take it. But Lachlan's right there with him. The two of them feast after. Troy Cook comes in to lend a hand. Backpedals to Lewis. Off the ground. Maybe OK. Down towards half forward. Lockett was dashing past. But all to no avail. As Goodwin picks it up. He pumps it high. Back towards centre wing. Rogran went early. Vardy's got pace. Wharp gives chase. Won't get him though. In towards Edwards. Tyson Edwards is going to be playing the ball. See, threw the whistle early there. I think they're made up for the 11 to 1, don't you? Little bit of anticipation. But he kicks in towards full forward. Danger signs are up once again. McCow was lurking. Grishuto was lurking, one behind the result. Grishuto's interesting, Lee. He's prepared to body dunk before the ball gets here to stop. He's probably his advantage in the air over him. Well, absolutely. But I think Grishuto and Jarman won out down there. The second effort. They're not really going to mark the ball in the contest. But both those players could be very dangerous at second effort. But only if there's only them and their opponent. If there's another pair of players there, you don't give a chance to outplay this specific defender. Swash to Orchard up towards Mooney, who's forced to defend. Throw in on the outer side. Good crowd here tonight for this knockout final. Stewardy Maxwell started on the bench. Came onto the ground when Darren Creswell copped a heavy knock. Apparently is concussed, so he'll probably take no further part in the game. Jamison down towards right forward pocket once again. And another throw. There's Jarrett Crouch. Young man waiting his chance. And it's about to come to a big as Troy Cook is leaving the ground. So the interchange will be made. Socket off the ground to Jarman. He likes the situation. He likes the goals. And he sprays it to the left. One behind. It's played by Grishuto there. A little kick off the ground to Jarman. Going the wrong way. But he just controlled it. Working it well, aren't they, really? The Swans are hanging in there. But just at the moment, the Crows are just looking more dangerous. Well, if you're back to Adelaide, you'd be very, very happy at the moment. I mean, if you took away O'Loughlin's contribution, they'd be in all sorts of trouble. 4-3-3-1. Nix gets it wet outside 50. Good play at this stage of the quarter. And then Worf goes towards the line and finds it with a boundary throw in. Real downpour before the start of this match. For about a half an hour, still raining steadily, but not nearly as hard. There's the interchange for the Crows. I've said earlier, they've gone in with a very tall team tonight. But they've started very promisingly. They've had seven shots to four. Swans can't beat the bigly Jarman tackle. And it'll be, again, a ball up. No, Curls, that wasn't on the ball. I thought it was. Ha ha. Swans didn't. Now it's going to crash through the back. So it's Wren and Stafford. Going to be some tight plays tonight. Crouch pushes forward, taken by Philandia. And plays so close to the ground. At center wing, measures his kick. O'Loughlin is a target. And so is O'Farrell. O'Loughlin ran it beautifully, pushes forward. Wants Maxwell. Maxwell, I should say, well played by Goodwin. Did it beautifully to Pittman. Pittman takes his time. Now he had smart short, but he decided to bank, it's not a good option. Taken by Philandia. Loggit's leading wide. Swans is going to kick it to him. I think, no, he hasn't spotted him. He goes longer to O'Loughlin. Got him. Is it a mark? He's going to play it. What a first quarter he's having. Great balance, isn't he? I mean, when he was at that marking contest on the half forward flank at the start of this attack, he went for the mark, but he was first at ground level when he knocked the ball forward. Terrific balance, he's showing it. And it was fantastic, Swans's vision, too. Plugger led early. He ended up being a little bit wide. He looked longer, looked more directed. And there was O'Loughlin making a second lead. Well, what an impact he's had. I mentioned Farmer earlier today. He kicked three second quarter goals. O'Loughlin lining up for his third goal in the opening term. This really the only orthodox shot that he's had for the night. But an important kick for the Swans. He's kicked it poorly and having trouble keeping his footing in the run in and didn't make the distance. So suddenly a bit of deflation there as the Swans go into the huddle. And the Crows would be happy with their efforts in the opening term. They lead by four goals, three to three goals. One, it's 27-19 to the SCG. Good evening, an Adelaide police officer is fighting for his life in hospital after a high speed crash. No, when I use that, it's money off the mortgage. Money off the mortgage? It's a colonial home pack. Only McDonald's Double Quarter Pounder with cheese is the official burger of the AFL. Aye, well, ruff for a wee break with the Waynes, and the cow was like a cowp. And would you know about Kennet? Clunk, clunk, clunk. I'm stood there right glakey with the Waynes shoutin', Oh, fairer, you ken yer nahan but a big dunder heed. So I skedaddled right into Ultratune and tell'd the laddy about the clunk, clunk, clunk. He says, Oh, yer shockers always are out the windy man, and made a rare job o' them. And understood me perfectly he did. The outback, where every year the migration of the off-road vehicle people takes place. If we're lucky, we might see a powerful new species. There, over there! Well, if you may have just joined us, welcome to Foody's Home Ground right here on Channel 7. This is a good, tight, hard final in trying conditions. Adelaide have their noses in front. 4.327, Sydney at 3.119. The 1998 AFL Premiership season brought to you by Telstra. Making life easier. Victoria Bitter for a hard-earned thirst. Cadbury Mark of the Year. McDonald's Double Quarter Pounder with cheese. And Mitsubishi Motors, the award-winning Magna. These two sides are trying to get to that one day in September, and we're steaming there too. And look what we've got for you on Grand Final Eve. The final word at 7.30. Who will win and why? At 8.30, that was the season it was, and what a season it's been as we take a look back on it. And then at 10.35, we really go into reminiscing mode with Sevens footy marathons. Some of the great finals, some of the great games of all time. As we now go down to the boundary line, Dipper and Curls. Thanks very much, Sandy. I've got to tell you, Curls, the swans are very dirty. What happened to Creswell? As we speak now, Creswell's still on the bench and he's certainly been going to the huddle there. So he's in bad form at the moment. It's a contact sport, you know. What the crows are really going to cause, the free kicks. 12 to 1 or 2, that's firstly two extra players for the Sydney team. It's 11 to 1, Curls, just to get it right. But Costa is at the bottom of that pack as we commence the second quarter. Adelaide going into the second term, leading by 8 points. And they locked on his looks so dangerous up forward. Of course, started in the centre square. So to pull him out of their attacking zone, they must feel they need a bit more out of the midfield. Rashido, it's a hurried kick, but it travels only a short distance, picked up by Nix. Goes down the walls, left half-ball once again. Steery-Maxfield had lost it, so too John Stevens. Costa goes again, he's ridden into the ground by crouch. Tyson tries to slap it forward and eventually seeing it over the line is Daniel McPherson. On centre wing, light rain still falling. But if you may have just joined us, a very heavy downpour prior to the players coming out onto the ground. Plus we had some thunder and lightning. Wasn't too flash, I can tell you. Now, that was like Brute Bernard and Mario Milano then, and the umpire put away the whistle. Costa couldn't take it. James left it beautifully, picked up by McLeod. Around the body he goes. Adelaide go dangerously in towards the 50. Robbren is there, he needs something to lift his confidence. Tyson Edwards is there too. We've got to throw in. Sandy the Bencher for Sydney, Paul Ruse. Cresswell as we mentioned before, Jason Saddington and Troy Cook. And for Adelaide we've got Shane Allen, Matthew Connell, Mark Stephens and Chad Rintoul. Thank you, Dipper. Marsh is beaten. And taking it towards the line was Seymour. Finishes over with Marsh. It's interesting with their present structures, Stephens and Allen for the crows, and Ruse and Saddington for swans as we mentioned before. Chase, those guys might spend a fair bit of time more within to change. Yeah, I don't think they give you too many options in the conditions at present. Stafford drops it down, Vardy tried to go off the ground. Running towards the line wharf, and again a boundary throw in. And we've got Lewis for the swans up forward this quarter. Being picked up by Jamison, and has been with him throughout. There's James who came on and kicked an important goal for the crows. And his first touch, as Neil said earlier. Robyn at the back with Marsh. Through the legs there of Goodwin, he's running with O'Loughlin. Orchard's little one taken by Maxfield, cleverly off the ground. Rashido hard at it, but so is Mooney who did very well. Tries to slap it out to Schwass. He's just having problems tonight. Being clean at the footy, isn't he? And it'll be again a ball up. 27-19. It's just so hard to know, to take it first touch. You almost need to just control the ball first touch. And then pretty much take possession, you know, in that next sort of touch of the ball. Great aggression by Mooney then to hold the ball in, because he was outnumbered. Mooney again, Jason, as Wren wins that one and pushes forward. Goodwin trying to go off the ground. Seymour there, Goodwin got it out somehow. Lough off the ground, has to concede some ground. But good defensive play. Philandia towards the line. And pretty happy to see the ball go over. And again a boundary throw in. Going to see plenty of this, plenty of ball ups. Not a whole lot of goals you'd think though. We did get seven in the opening two in 4-3, 2-3-1. Terrific crowd here considering the conditions in the hour leading up to the match. Rashido gets a roundhouse down towards Vardy. They swamp him. And up by Chris Mitchell. 39-year-old teacher who made his debut back in 1985 comes in for a ball up. As happens Stafford is back on marsh in the goal square, so you've got the Robbren, just a bit more height probably there against Lough. Robbren to James to Vardy, this is dangerous as he shoots in towards goal and he's put it through. Sometimes she just looks snappish. And sometimes she is snappish. These are my friends. Did you see that? But whether she's snappish or not, surely she wouldn't shoplift. Contraceptive jelly, tape shows you putting it in your pocket. Now she's in big trouble. You behave yourself you little vixen. Can she find a way out? They just suspended your license. Mitsubishi Motors presents Ali McBeal, Monday 8.30 on 7. The Ali McBeal soundtrack now available in all leading music stores. Swans need the next one here, 5-3-3-1, Wren maybe just with O'Farrell over the top. Vardy's kicked a couple, O'Loughlin kicked two in the opening two. And they try to go through Tyson. Steven's in there as well. And a ball up. Vardy has been very good. He's kicked 33 in his last 11 going in, average of three from the flank. They're good numbers. Very good numbers. And he can kick bags. He's kicked seven once and five on another occasion. So he's an important player for the Crows. From the centre, Maxwell's got some space, goes wide to plug her. Lock it on the lead. His first real goal tonight, 50 metres out. Normally so constructive. Gets around Pittman pretty easily. And then delivers to Lewis cleverly. He's a scoop full player, the big fellow. Good ground level player, wasn't it? Oh yeah. Lewis is a thumping kick. He's 53 out I guess by the time he kicks it with Jamison right on the 50. He's going to have to time it perfectly. He'd have to torp it. You'd no way get a 55 metre drop punt with a 50 foot in a slightly damp ball, you wouldn't think. Goal square vacant. Tries to torp. Baines at the water square. Wren gets back. And then Haven came in with a foul. Berisha picked up the one that made a change on Alok. Costa has got him now. So good one off and Costa on. Alok has been playing deeper up the ground earlier in this quarter but now coming back. So Rashido to bring it in. Rashido, Jarman brought it in from the other end earlier. Had been swapping a bit. He didn't time it too well. Can he get it over O'Farrill? Just did. Tyson, then smart. Did well actually. Took it out of the air. Kept his call. Into the centre. McLeod and Nix, what a duel that's going to be throughout the night. McLeod half leaves it there. Favardi over the top with him his wharf. Back with McLeod who pushes the ball forward. Goodwin got a high one. Should get a free kick. Does. The advantage given. McLeod can sting. Rashido can goal. 45 metres out. Misses. And misses badly. Off to the side. I think that important ball on the wing there, that packed situation eventually. Goodwin I think he's got the free kick. But Crows just keeps pushing it forward. That's the important thing, when you've got the ball at your feet in the middle of the pack. Just try and get it running forward. And eventually the offensive team tends to run onto those balls. Crouch off and Troy Cook comes on for Sydney. There's Schwass gets a hurried kick only as far as Han on centre wing. Adelaide go into attack once again. Dudley couldn't take the juggling mark. Tried hard. James pressure towards the line by Orchard. And another throw in. What a great work right before with Rashido. They kick the ball out of full back and then they kick themselves a goal as well. It's interesting, Kosta picked up O'Loughlin in the midfield. But O'Loughlin's gone forward and Kosta's gone back. I think Malcolm Light might try and get his original opponent Goodwin back. Stafford kicks blindly with the left foot under pressure. It slews off the side. Schwass couldn't take it. Dale Lewis can. Pumps it up towards Cook on centre wing. Smart is there to assist Han. And also Caven. And it's the latter who takes it now. Penetrating kick in these conditions. Jarman waits at the back. His lurking danger to there doesn't come his way. Once again pressure on the defence. Orchard is beaten. Here's the Northspent medallist. And he's come for another one. McLeod. Hey, Jim, Dr. Elliott. Hi. Listen, I'm really sorry about what happened. Is there anything I can do to help get your car back on the road? Well, with Amy, they're taking care of everything. Quotes? Done. Repairs? Done. Good quality? Guaranteed for the life of the car. Even if I sell it. Wow. Well, I guess you don't need me then. No! Have a nice day. A free service that takes care of all your post-crash running around. Call Amy now. 19 points the margin. But in these conditions it could well be 39 points. Crow's going well. McLeod having an impact here. They lead 6-3 to 3-2. Lee, as you mentioned, we have Simon Goodwin back on the lock line now. And Costa going back in the middle. Interesting one, Lee. Smart doing the job on Maxwell at the moment. Big physical advantage there. Yeah. I think they'll be quite happy with that, the Crows, though. I think a smart, scrimmage-level run, I think, is quite capable of holding on to a quicker play like this. Paul Ruz on there. So Ruzzi comes on. His last game here at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Whatever happens tonight. Push forward by Edwards. Taken by Seymour. Did well. Got it to Luff. Luff kicks towards Cook. Hart with him. Ball comes out towards Maxwell. He just taps it to Stafford. Smart onto him. Maxwell gets a second go off the ground. The way to go. O'Loughlin and also Goodwin. It's been a terrific duel. Cavan kicks to the space. The race is on. Maxwell tells Filani to do the shampron. Filani couldn't quite hold Cavan up. Maxwell forced to go to the line. And a boundary throw in. At left half four. Sydney 3-2. And the Crows are 6-3. You mentioned that matchup of Smart on Maxwell. Smart and Hart, I think, in this crucial. It doesn't look well, does it? You can see that even from behind. Smart and Hart, they can both play on a great variety. Taller players and shorter players. Which gives the Crows great flexibility. Shwas under the footy. But Costa did well. And then Resciuto straightens the body. Belts it back to centre wing. McLeod's having a huge quarter. And a big game. He's at centre wing. He's just given Nicks the run around a bit at the moment. He's kicked wide. Not so good. Duckley able to take it. Jarman preciously well done. And Tyson. He's not paid. Why? Yeah, it's a good 10 metres, isn't it? Absolutely. Not a long 10 metres. But I would have thought at least 10 plus. Duckley would be disappointed if he didn't call that 10. I reckon Andrews had lesser kicks than that. No, mate, it was a good call. But certainly it was a line ball, wasn't it? So, boundary throw in. McLeod misses. Nicks there with him. Robrind just gets rid of Luff for the moment. Ball comes to Stephens. Robrind's little one off the ground. And again, a boundary throw in. Swans are flat. They need something, don't they? They're not really winning the ball in the contest very well. They're certainly not getting any run-out of the fits. I mean, it is really just a struggle of a game. But just at the moment, the best you could say is they're hanging in there. Yes, at the moment you'd think it was Sydney who had their last three games on the road. But that's not the case. It's been Adelaide. They're playing for a preliminary final spot as Smart kicks it down towards half-point, taken by Duckley. Now, Rousey's just come onto the ground. This grand veteran... who rejuvenated himself when he came to Sydney. He gets it down towards the half-point line. Matthew Nicks can have a look down towards centre-half borders. Lockett comes out. Pittman is right there with him. He tries to get the hand pass away. Sock it off the ground and push towards the line. Lockett's still going. Cook is there with him. The big man needs assistance. Plugger gives away a bit of ground. He gives it to Rousey. Rousey to the sliding Mooney. He's a left footer, but he's under pressure. So too is Peter Falandia. He needs assistance. Maxfield comes in. Adelaide sets him. They can sneak clear here if they can get another one. Loughfield's the heat in the kitchen. He loses the ball. And there'll be a ball up in the middle. It really looks like they're trying to play too much. Try with the footy out there. Sydney, they're trying to square it up and overuse the ball instead of just one person settling and get a long kick into the forward line. And it looks like Lockett has actually been pushed out to the 50 metre line to get out of the goal square. They've changed their set-up. Pushed Stafford back as they keep position forward. 12.5 minutes left in this first half. Sydney having real trouble scoring. Ruse may get the opportunity to push them down towards right half forward. The Adelaide pressure at the moment, though, is relentless. He's taken to the line. There'll be a throw-in on the outer side. He said it, Sandy, every time a Swans player gets the ball, there's a Crows player pushing at him very hard. There's a 2-1-1 out there. They really should have applied a shepherd, but Bickel was able to get straight through and tackle Ruse. Pittman, the only one wearing gloves tonight, which perhaps is a little surprising in these conditions. Vardy working hard. He needs help. Costa was the one to give it to him. Look at the marshes in trouble, too. He goes again. Jamison is there. There's a free kick. And he's got it. In the middle of the ground. The Crows mounting once again. Tyson's in the centre. He looks straight down the middle. Perfect kick. Good kick. And it makes Sean Renne is going to have a shot. 35 metres out. Directly in front. It was a powerful kick, wasn't it? Just the ability to keep his footing there, Tyson, in the square. He was pretty shifty, but he got inside Maxwell and just absolutely put it on the chest of Renne, didn't he? And very good vision because Renne gave a dummy lead, then he back led, he found the space, and he hit him right on the chest. So Sean Renne is looking for something to lift himself. He's played in eight finals, Club Champion back in 1994. Shoots from just under 40 metres. Good looking kick off the boot, and he's got it for Adelaide. Sydney's in stride. MUSIC The new Mitsubishi Pajero, perfectly adapted to Australian conditions. Seven to three here, so three to zero in the second term. The Crows have got a stranglehold on them at this stage. Marsh and also Stafford. O'Roughlin off the ground, pushes the ball forward. Adelaide seem to be in the right place at the moment. Taken by Ben Hart having a good game. Belts towards Rock and good mark by Waltham in the front. Just forcing himself, willing himself really to get in front of 50 metres against Tyson Edwards right across the mark. They still play 50 for that, don't they? So 50 to Waltham. And Waltham gets it on the attacking side of centre. And perhaps he can set something up. Kicks to fall forward, lock it out and umbered. Stood his ground well. Taken by Lewis. Lewis, cleverly good goal. Gets one. That really is against the run of the play, but it's certainly something they needed to do. Sydney needed to do something to get the crowd back involved in the game. They've been very quiet this quarter and that might be just the tonic. Yes, certainly against the tides. So 4-2 to 7-3, the 50 metre penalty against Tyson Edwards and Lewis scoring. And Bruce, it's funny, they say that the weather takes the skill out of the game. But the really skillful players, the McLeod's, the O'Loughlins, the Lewesses, they just seem to rise above it, don't they? They've come to the fore, no doubt about that. So Daniel Lewis gets this crowd rocking at the SCG. He celebrates his 150th game with a much needed goal. Marsh flies high for the Crows. Cook gets it out towards O'Loughlin. The advantage is paid, it was a free kick to Sydney. O'Loughlin's away, Lockett's on the lead. He slides, he dives, he's on all fours as Pittman just chips it away from his arms and pushes over the line. Trying hard, Lockett, no doubt about that. I mean, everyone out there tries, but he has really got that little ounce of desperation. Best return, six goals versus Adelaide. He's not going to get them tonight because it's just not unlike his type of player, but he's certainly working very hard when the ball gets near him. Marsh again does well towards Robb. And he actually got a hand to it on that occasion. McLeod wanting someone going past. And eventually it's O'Loughlin who pushes Goodwin towards the line. Orchard keeps it in play hard for Sydney. They need at least another one now if they're going to stay in this game at half time. Matthew Nix runs the boundary line on the outer wing. Poor kick, only goes a little distance. Picked up by Jarman, pushes it back from whence it came. Towards the line once again and over on the other side. Sandy, it was like four on the Richter scale when Tony Lockett dived to that mark down here. Yes, it was like a tree that had been felled. I'm glad you said it, girls. There he is with his opponent tonight in David Pittman. Pittman was on him in round 14, kept him to a couple of goals on that particular occasion, but the conditions were very, very different. Goodwin has been pinned for a throw. Sydney get another chance through Stevens. He looks in towards the centre. Nigel Smart has done well. Cook fills his presence. Caveman gets the hand pass away. Put his teammate and his captain in a little bit of trouble. And eventually it's pushed past Costa and Schross for another throw in. Sandy, down here at level, it just seems as though the Crows are not doing quite so many second and third handling errors. They seem a little bit cleaner at ground level. Yep. 7-3 plays 4-2. And of course Sydney, without Darren Creswell, who has left the ground. He's gone down into the rooms with what appears to be concussion. Holoffman pumps it high towards Cook. Hard is the effective spoiler once again. And another throw in. So you take Darren Creswell out of the Sydney line-up. It certainly leaves a gaping hole when you look into that midfield. With of course no Paul Kelly as it is, who's on the comeback trail. Seven weeks now since the operation and into his rehabilitation. O'Loughlin, tunnel balls it out the back door. Got a call from Falandia, who was there, unable to take it cleanly. A high tackle could have almost been paid to Costa. Looks as though he caught one round the head. Not to be, says the umpire. A throw in. Raine has temporarily cleared. She's a heavy track here at the SCG tonight. Pittman doing the work from behind. Dunkley unable to take it. Socket off the ground. Seymour, claimed by Tyson Edwards, needs support through Nix. Lewis can't get clear. The pressure is relentless. Seymour fields it once again. A cry of Paul as McCloud went to the line. Dale Lewis is there. Tyson Edwards is there. And we'll have another throw in on that outer side. Some outstanding efforts, isn't it? Right around the ground at the moment. Not pretty maybe, but boy, both teams hard at it. They realise it's a crucial stage in the match with the Crows leading by three goals. Swoss out of the pack, goes to the line and finds it. And gains about 50 valuable metres. It's one of those conditions where you're not really going to get your hands on it, win it to it. You've got to make sure the opposition don't. You at least get draws so that you don't just give them the opportunity to break clear. Stafford and Marsh. Rinse, push forward for about the last five or six minutes for the Crows. Just hoping to kick another one. Stafford belts forward. Bickley goes to ground. He's over the top of it. Bickley, you want to get out in a hurry. Smart. Gets a little kick not very far. Taken by Love. Belts forward. Lockets in a reasonable position. Is the bounce kinder. He tries to break one tackle. Crows did very well to hold him up there through Kaven. He remembers Tony so well at this ground. Well done by Tyson. Did very well. And pushes wide. Hart got a reasonably bad bounce. Spent out of trouble beautifully. Did it wonderfully well. And his kick was just too far for a shooter. Downfield. Downfield against Stevens. And Rossuto's got the free kick. Well played, Ben Hart. His balance was terrific then. He kept his head. And Rossuto's got it at centre wing. 7-3 to 4-2. The kick to Wren at centre half. Ford went with one hand. Ruse against him. Ruse goes to ground. Wren over the top. Be a ball up. Swans are looking for some fresh legs. Couch on now for Johnny Stevens. And also Philandia office. Saddington on. Thanks, Dipper. So some changes there. Just before half time from Rockerty. Little kick off the ground by James. Back to Rossuto. The handball was good to Marsh. It wasn't too hard. Marsh to Vardy. Good tackle by Swans. It was terrific. Marsh tried to get through. James. Swans into him. Taken again by Vardy. Crunches through. Goes for goal. And misses. Gee, he's got some power, hasn't he? When he gets on top of the footy. They just look like they're breaking a few more tackles, the Crows. And maybe just that's the slight ascendancy they've got. Just getting past the Swans tackler. I think the other thing the Crows are doing in the past is they're still managing to keep the ball going forward in any direction. And in the end it's spilling out and they're getting on to the clear ball. Here's Matthew Nix in game number 50. Sydney desperate for another goal or two before half time. As Schwass tumbles a punt down towards Lewis. He caught one high. Plays on though. Goes on to the left foot. Got a call in towards the middle. Jimmy Maxwell is there. Now Lockett, he knows this well. A little too far. Pippen was there to spoil. Smart right there with it. And Lager just missed him. Pushed back towards Tyson. Here's Clayne by Maxwell. The cry of ball. Sandington is welcome to the SCG in these slippery conditions. Young Jason wearing number 22 for Sydney. And there'll be another throw in. There he is. The Moritz Rising Star nomination this year. And a very exciting youngster. Marsh had a front spot. Good tackle by Maxfield who started on the bench. Tyson goes again. Gains probably 10 or 15 metres. Pushes towards Costa. Tumbles a punt up towards Robren. He marks just forward of centre wing. Wharf holding him up. Robren now heads in towards the pocket. He wants Jarman. Got a hand to it. And a throw in to take place. Too early Sandy. Right forward pocket. Nice Jarman then. Twice has been pinks. That's just jumping too early to try and get the play around the way. Just giving away some 3-4-3 kicks tonight. Don't have four lines. You can't afford that, Jim Britton. Even contest like that you must go for the ball and not infringe. Dunkley to take it. Heads back towards centre wing. Towards big Greg Stafford. He can't take it. Marsh appeared to have someone in a headlock there. Crouch has just come onto the ground. Costa has got his measure at the bottom of the pack. That'll be another ball up. I don't know what Stafford's aerobic fitness is like. But certainly he's been double teamed with Marsh and Wren. So as this game draws on you just might find Stafford starting to go up and down the one spot a bit. Crouch has the ball smothered off the boot. Tyson is a gang tackle. Crouch goes again. He's a persistent young man. Here's Rusciuto around the body. A high ball up towards half forward. Seymour went for the belt. Pops out the back door. Dunkley can lead in the race. Rus does the shepherding for him. Andrew Dunkley's left footed kick is interesting. It passes Saddington. It goes towards O'Loughlin. O'Loughlin will be unable to keep it in play. So it's just over five minutes remaining. Adelaide has opened up a 20 point lead as John Stephens has a spell. And Sydney need a goal or two before the long break. Stafford back to full forward having a spell. Mooney on the ball. O'Loughlin goes to ground. Pushes towards the line. And he gets a free kick. Against Goodwin for a high tackle. O'Loughlin looks a bit sore too. As he picks himself up. He was a bit sore in the opening turn after a similar incident. Creswell out of business. And I think the left shoulder is actually what he is a bit sore. Let's have a look at how this, maybe this is a slight knock. Maybe something more. So O'Loughlin from half back kicks to center wind. Dunkley puts himself in a marking position. Taken by Edwards, his handball. Smart accelerates quite brilliantly through the center. And then does reasonably well in a push off. Jarman pushing forward. Well held up there by a wharf. Wharf to Saddington. Saddington's kick is bad. Tyson's had a good match. Little kick. Bit cute to center wing. Goodwin kept his head. Saddington onto him. Boundary throw. Short game can get you into trouble on a night like tonight. And here's the unlock of injury. Goodwin getting into his back. Crunching down hard on him. And O'Loughlin's up on his feet now. But he doesn't look 100%. Rossuto couldn't quite. Handball out by Costa. Rossuto trying to get towards Jamison. Orchard into it as well. And it's going to be another ball up. 50 meters out from the crows goal. Certainly right, Jason, before you mentioned that the crows just keeping the ball down the ground. Just pushing forward at every opportunity. Robram's competing a lot better tonight as well. He's at least certainly holding it up there if he doesn't win it himself. Costa, little toe-pipe by Rossuto. Jamison on hands and knees. Lewis got over the top. Can't quite get effectively away. Robram again trying to get over the top. Seymour with him. And again a ball up. About 45 meters from Adelaide's goal. Critical here that Sydney hold the crows up before half time. They've been good at here not to crowd it too much. There's half a dozen pairs of players around the ball. But a lot of crows play just pulling clear. Mooney, Robram, Vardy has been so good. Vardy left foot towards goal. Jarman at the back. Ball comes to ground. O'Loughlin tries to concede. It now goes over the line. Jarman looking for one. But it's going to be a behind. I guess they never penalize you for staying to do that, British. Can't lose anything, can you? Can't lose anything. He's in trouble, Michael O'Loughlin. No doubt about that. Yeah, that shot certainly bothered him, Sandy. He fell on his shoulder in a minor version the way you did yours, Jason. Really the less shoulder got caught underneath the tackler. So a crucial three minutes or so now. Sydney must prevent Adelaide from scoring again and try and score themselves. Lewis goes in towards Maxfield. The left footer will swing around. He knows that Lockett will come steaming out. And here he is right now. But he needs assistance. And he gets it from Stafford. Stafford needs someone down there in the square. Here's an opportunity. They've dropped the numbers. McPherson was unable to get a clear-kick at goal. It's slopped in the mud. Ruse is there. He's ripped off the ball. He's going to get a free kick. He was held to downfire. And Ruse is in the pocket. 25 meters out. What did you think, Lee? I'm sure we'll have a replay of this. And I think Paul Ruse made sure that the contact from behind some players can almost wrap the opposition tackler's arms around them. But he milked the free kick. Big kick. This is a big kick. And the end result is one behind. I think that might be poetic justice. Thought about the check side for a moment. Then elected to try and go short. Let's have a look at this. Certainly... You just keep pushing back. Again, that one. Well, if it works, it works. Can you remember a game with 18 free kicks to four? 18. Let's have a look at this. This is the jump up the other end just before. You've just alerted Curls. He was just starting to doze. Here's Tyson. Off to smart. He's been very good. Towards Goodwin. Unable to take it. He, too, has battled very hard. Simon Goodwin goes further afield. Now this is dangerous time. Costa gets crouched. But he bounced up like the Indian rubber man. Pushed towards the line. And with a couple of minutes remaining. Another throw in. Such a great man, Brewster. I reckon the way Costa got cleaned up then. But he bounced up as quick as he went to ground. It's a good indication by language, isn't it? Even when you cop the tough knocks, you get up quickly. And there's nothing better for the rest of the side to see that happen. Adelaide by 20 points. A crucial time in the game. Rob rin is gang tackle. He loses it. Tyson's working hard. Crouch has got him. But Nigel starts in the back. Pushes towards Rosciuto. Almost on 50. Look at Troy Cook. He pounced on that ball. Like seagulls over a leftover sandwich. They've got it at half-board for Adelaide. Under two minutes left. And Adelaide are hanging on. Sandy, just give me those for easy game, please. 18 to 4, girls. 18 to 4. Rodman went early. There wouldn't be any leftover sandwiches here with Lee in the box. Smart choice to get a kick away. McLeod couldn't quite. Sydney holed it up. Had to get that in a hurry. Well done by Jarman. Brilliantly done. Edwards running onto it. Dunkley felt it in the way. It was good footy. Now the race is on. Hart's got five meters. Dunkley's after him. Jamison's behind. Crows have got men everywhere. Hart can do it quickly. Hart spins around. Not a good kick. He made it a two-on-two contest instead of about a four-on-two. Bickley turns. Gets out of it. Edwards, well played by Seymour. Rode him in. Crows try to come forward. And I reckon the Swans did pretty well there because when Ben Hart got it, there were two outlay players released and on their way. Probably a poor option from Ben Hart. He's got a good footy. He's got a good footy. He's got a good footy. He's got a good footy. long time. Tyson got rid of him, he's had a huge match. Nicks on the up was good. Maxfield hooked her back cleverly to send a half forward. Lough tried to go on. Caban did well. Well played by Cook to smother. On hands and knees to Edwards. He's like a rubber man isn't he? Kicks it straight back to Duckley. He's got it to the defensive side of the centre. Maybe the last roll of the dice as far as an attacking thrust is concerned for Sydney in this half. He's got players out wide. Mooney almost clean ball. Looses it. Luckily he's got Wayne Schwass there with him. Mooney's in trouble. He's still down behind play. Doesn't matter they've got it down towards the forward line. An opportunity for McPherson in towards goal. It spins and it spins. It almost stops in the mud before being taken over. They probably needed to make a little bit more of that. They haven't had a lot of opportunities Sydney but when they do go forward they really need to convert them to stay in this game. Only seconds remaining in this first half. A soggy old night in Sydney town but this is a final. There's no tomorrow for the losers. They're gone in season 98. The winner to meet the Western Bulldogs in a preliminary final next Saturday night. Adelaide could be looking forward to that. I'm sure Sydney would love to do it too. They'll have time to think about that during the long break. Halftime here at the SCG. A good second quarter by the Adelaide Crows. They booted three goals and they were able to restrict Sydney to only one. Sydney's goal coming from Madale Lewis. On the other hand for Adelaide, goals from Andrew McLeod. He's now booted two for the game. Peter Vardy likewise one in each term. Sean Wren kicked one in that second term. Singles in the first to Brett James and also Mark Rusciuto. A bit of work to do at halftime. The Swans, I'm sure Rodney Yate is just trying to find a jigsaw that will fit a little bit better. They certainly struggled pretty hard the last ten minutes of that quarter. The Crows got clear and the Swans were just putting the pressure back on them later in the term. 19 points is the margin here at the SCG at halftime. Adelaide leads 75.7 Sydney 4-4 28. It all started with Jim and two McDonald's quarter pounders. And now it's here McDonald's double quarter pounder with cheese with two beef patties and three slices of cheese. Join Belinda Emmett for All Time Greatest Groupers Sunday on 7. Welcome back to the SCG where the rain has abated but it's a pretty soggy ground that we're left with. And as we go to that halftime break certainly the Crows have the ascendancy leading 7-5 47 to the Swans 4-4 28. And Jase there's plenty of work for the Swans to do in the second half to pick the game up. Certainly are Lee. I think there's some very worrying signs for Sydney. Creswell unlikely to come back. O'Loughlin now seems to be carrying some sort of a shoulder injury. And Greg Stafford who's been fantastic for them as you said earlier is going to have to carry an enormous workload. Well he didn't get carried off in a stretch here Creswell but he looks sick and when he went down the race one would think it would be very surprising if he actually reappears. So Kelly obviously out for the season long ago and Creswell life is tough for the Swans. It just makes you wonder where the Swans are going to get their drive from around the midfield and the Adelaide midfield has been fantastic. They seem to have momentum. They're driving the ball forward and if you're a betting man I don't think I'd like to be on Sydney at this stage. O'Loughlin he's been pretty good for the Swans up forward. Then in the midfield this situation we saw O'Loughlin take one and Rashido down the other end take those long low diving marks but certainly they need a couple of them in the moment because they're trying to work out whether to put him midfield or up forward and it looks like he hurt his shoulder as well during that second turn. But look you don't get many opportunities like that. You have to make the most of them. We see him here. He's fallen over a few times. He's had bodies stumped on top of him. His head, his shoulders, just about everything getting a bit of a work out there. If he can't play at his capacity the Swans are going to be in a lot of trouble up forward. Is it Darren Jarvan or maybe he did a little bit of an upper body contact but he certainly went for it. The umpire didn't take much notice of it but certainly the ruck situation I find interesting with Stafford using him in the ruck then up forward maybe the double teaming of Marsh and Wren against him. I think that's probably the one low life for the Adelaide pros is Sean Wren hasn't done a lot. He did manage to sneak forward and kick a goal but his ruck work has certainly been playing second fiddle to Greg Stafford. Andrew McLeod forward this week and he's a very dangerous player. No Jeff Farmer to contend with as a defender and just made the goal out of nothing. So a terrific, terrific goal. So certainly a good half of football. The Crowes certainly are looking a bit better. I don't know what the Swans may do. Any short things? Well it's going to be difficult. I think Rodney needs to make a few moves and I'm not sure what he can do. We'll be back in a short break. It hasn't really affected the Adelaide Crows though as they attempt to make it back to back Grand Finals. They have the edge over the Sydney Swans at the moment as Sydney prepares themselves for the second half. The Adelaide Crows leading by 19 points. Hoping to set up a preliminary final clash with the Western Bulldogs next weekend at the MCG. Remembering of course those two met in a preliminary final last year. On that occasion the Adelaide Crows came from behind and after that match it prompted Terry Wallace, the Bulldogs coach, to say this. I spoke to our players about finals performers. Players in the modern age talk about having tattoos for Premiership efforts. I just wondered whether our guys would be prepared to put a tattoo on their legs saying that they were five goals in front in the preliminary final and lost it. Wear that around on the beach for 12 months. There's nowhere that you can hide from a result like that. Tattoos eh? Any thoughts on them now? Terry Wallace, good evening and welcome to the SCG. 12 months is a long time isn't it Sadie? It certainly is but actually I don't think you'd be all that concerned. In fact I think you'd be sitting up here rubbing your hands tonight watching these two sides in the wet going hell for leather. Well it's been a tough game so far and obviously Creswell going off has hurt Sydney up to this stage. But I can remember last year walking out of the Adelaide Oval after a really tough encounter between Geelong and Adelaide thinking the result would probably go in the right way and the rest was history. Before we talk about this game firstly as far as the dogs are concerned the week off what have you done? Has there been any change in routine? Not really I suppose the only thing that we have done is that we really had a bit of a break early in the weekend lighten off and then just had a fairly tough training session last night. Just how advantageous is that week? You know what it's like being a player yourself and being in the same situation. What does it do to you and the boys from Arden Street? Oh well I suppose number one thing is that just a weeks rest at this stage of the year gives players an opportunity to rest their bodies a little bit. I think more so than that you don't have to go back into combat and therefore the opportunity of actually losing another player out of your squad is diminished. Any surprises when we look at this game tonight Adelaide leading by 19 points. I think some people were perhaps a little surprised they came into the game bearing in mind the conditions with three big men including Marsh. Were you surprised at that? Not so much and obviously the conditions were something that obviously they would have taken into account but I think they've just been very very hard at the football and sometimes people sort of see where the football and they don't believe you need to be a skillful side but the realistic facts of it you've got to be hard and also very skillful and they've done that very well. You mentioned the skills and of course Andrew McLeod has once again shown us those Norm Smith medallist glimpses hasn't he? Yeah it's guys like McLeod and Jarman and Mishuto who can use the ball and still be able to perform their tasks up to the same levels that really make the difference. Last year's preliminary final between the Adelaide Crows and the Western Bulldogs has been well documented. What do you think that is going to have? What sort of an effect do you think that is going to have on next weeks game? Well obviously we've got to wait and see who gets over the line. Let's assume you're going to play the Adelaide Crows. Well if it is Adelaide from our point of view we haven't discussed it really at any particular stage. We've never really gone back into the past. I've always sort of said that we've got to look forward and our team said about that game that the future would determine just exactly what it meant to the club. If we went on and had success well really that was just part of the process but if we didn't it was a lost opportunity. Now guys it's etched in their minds without having to bring it up. Well look let's just have a look at this game without your Western Bulldogs coaches hat on tonight. They're down by 19 points at half time Sydney. Can you see any way they can get back into this game and if you were coach at half time what would you be doing? It's going to be really tough at the moment. Creswell's an interesting scenario whether he can come back out or not. One would doubt it wouldn't he having seen him go down the race. Very much so and O'Loughlin now appears to be quite sore after a couple of heavy knocks so it's going to be very difficult. Look I think they've just got to keep rotating their players through that midfield as much as they possibly can. Rodney's been a master at that since he's sort of taken over. I mean fresh legs is the only way that you've got to work your way back into this style of game. Conditions that we're experiencing tonight how much does it take out of a player? It's probably different. You don't probably get as many major injuries in these sort of conditions. Probably the dry weather is when you physically hit each other at a higher capacity. But it's just that leg weariness you know the work that you've had to do to grind through a game. Every contest is a real contest in itself. Terry it's been good to talk to you. Go and enjoy the second half. I have a feeling you might and we'll be speaking with you next week. Thanks Eddie. Terry Wallace coach of the Western Bulldogs. Let's have a look at the program as it unfolds. The path to the finals. We know that the second preliminary final will be an absolute blockbuster at the MCG next Friday night between North Melbourne and Melbourne. The Bulldogs are there in the first preliminary final but who are they going to be playing? Is it going to be the Sydney Swans or is it going to be the Adelaide Crows? Well at the moment the Crows are leading here at the SCG by 19 points. It's a wet old wintry night anything can happen. Stay with us here at Woody's Home Ground for the second half. Sydney come back, 7-5 plays 4-4. They've got to do it without Darren Creswell, who left the ground in the first half. Appeared to be pretty severely concussed now. Watch in the highlighted circle, he just unfortunately crashes into James. And that was the end for Darren Creswell in this particular final. Quickly down to the boundary line, different curls. Yes, we just saw James come off the bench there and surely he got a view there, curls. That's part of putting. But the conditions have dried up a bit. We should start to see some marking this quarter. Thank you, boys. So here we go, the second half. O'Farrell will try and inspire Sydney out of the middle. 28 plays 47. Wayne Schwoss has had a change of jumper. And he'll be hoping to grip that ball as he just decides to use Mark Rusciuto to wipe the old mud. James, I reckon Plugger might go on strike because you're full forward junior, so you never get away from the front of the goal. I think he's up towards the half forward at the start of this third quarter. Well, he did some roaming in the end, didn't he, last week. Let's see what happens this time. Troy Luff can't get clear. Another ball up. Important for Sydney. They get the first goal in this third term. They'll get the crowd rocking behind them. Lift the confidence of the players, but it's Wren who swats it past Jamison. He's forced to apply the tackle, and he's very good at that. So the curls measure about the ground. Obviously the ground has had opportunities to slack up some of this water. Only round about the middle of the ground is quite wet. Stafford wins it again. Rusciuto to Nigel Smart. Smart is 80 metres from home, bends it back. Lewis skids and loses control of the ball. Dunkley's hand pass is going to be OK. Rouse gets a little one away. Can Sydney mount something here? McPherson has a look down the ground. Kicks it probably 35 metres. Lockett is a long way. He's skiing on centre wing at the moment, the big man. Now he's got it. Tries to push it inboard. The only one there is James. He's claimed. Pushes it away. Connell's on the ground. Matty Connell is slung. Loses the ball. Rusciuto chips in. Down towards McLeod. Goes again, Rusciuto. Can't take it. McLeod finally pushes it towards him. Rusciuto bursts away from the boundary line. Bends it back in, but the mark is taken by Dunkley on the last line of defence. He had luff wide. He decided not to go there in the end. Big ten minutes coming up for both of us. Stafford went to the outer side for the change of direction too, but Dunkley said he can't kick it to you. Get over this side well I can reach it. Rouse to centre wing. At the back was Costa. He's getting it away from Stephens and Schwoz. Finding another five or six metres over the line. Cruz to the bench. Obviously Cruz will send in Mooney, Salentin and Crouch. Thanks, Tipper. Stafford and Noren. Centre wing. Body to body. Stafford just winning the duel. Little toe poke. Jamison had no momentum. Stephens had it. Kicks it straight back to Smart. This match-up's worked out pretty well for the Crows for the moment. Smart on Maxfield. Long kick to Robb. Rashido's at the back. We heard that Curls. Tyson goes forward. Stafford gets over the top of it. He did pretty well there, Stafford. He was able to ride the tackle, so to speak. Taken by Orchard. Orchard cleverly decided not to handball. Held it up. Kicks the ball to the space. Lock it out after it with him as a pitman. Plugger goes to ground. Can't control it. Boundary throw in. Interchange with both of us. Atwoods, Helen, Stephens, Brintell. Thanks, Neil. Take the mic away when you're barracking. It's 47 to 28. 7-5 to 4-4. Wren, Stafford. Stafford belts forward. Smart getting in his road there was Tyson. Smart under siege. Well done, Cook. Cook finds it out wide to Luff. Luff. He's got Lewis in the pocket. Didn't see him. Belts towards the goal square. Lewis is hanging down. And Lewis has taken the mark. Gee, Cook and Wren as he was held onto there in the goal square. Can't believe he's left. And Lewis who had drifted down there. It was just waiting to see in fact whether Goodman or Loughlin would contest the mark. He just drifted over and certainly watched the ball hard. Lewis into his hands. All-important first goal in the second half. And he had a terrific match last week. We got two first-half goals. He kicked one in the second. He's had 16 possession tonight, so he's certainly had plenty of the ball against Jannison. And should kick the goal, which will really tighten it and bring the crowd into play here. Lewis to kick his second. And his 150th. He's got it. Get ready for the ultimate adrenaline rush as the world's best riders put reputations and finely tuned machinery on the line. They're back in town, the home side, maybe. 13 points the margin. Cook tries to rip it out of the centre and does well to poke it down to half-board. Caiman will cut it off. The plugger came steaming out again but couldn't take it. Tyson has the mark on the outer wing. Can Adelaide now offer the quick reply? Tyson kicks it up towards the 50. Robben got a hand to it but that was all. Stafford, the big man, pokes out a hand pass. It's going to be okay. Suddenly Sydney's starting to run. They're starting the second half. LaLockeman! Pass was good from Matthew Nix. And LaLockeman, who appeared to have shoulder problems in the first half, he's been battered from pillar to post. Picks himself up. Terrific surge out of midfield really. LaLockeman got on the lead early and just got out into the end of Nix's kick. The ground level agility of Stafford at half-back was exceptional too to feed off that hand pass. This for his 99th career goal. He's kicked two so far in this game, two in the first quarter. And this to really get this place rocking. Distance will test him. 47 metres. It's going to be close. It's very close. It's touched on the line. And one behind. Big Sean Wren there. Making sure. They've got a hand to it. And a bit of more medical attention to that shoulder for Michael O'Loughlin. They seem to aggravate it again. I guess any minor movement is certainly not going to help. Sydney have come out firing though in this third term. Pittman tries to push it down in front. In fact, tried to trip Cavern. He got the kick over down to McLeod who marks forward of centre. Thinks about sneaking off. Here's McLeod. Puts it inside 50. Marsh was the lone flyer for the visitors. It's bell-hood wide. Leading in the race is Connell. Connell goes for the line. He's under pressure. And also with him there is Daniel McPherson. We've got to throw him. Left half forward for Adelaide. The rain has cleared. 5G had felted down prior to the game starting. And this knockout final. Is gathering momentum as Schwartz leads in the race. He tries to sucker off the ground. Slows off the boot. Robben may get the chance. The mark wasn't paid. Marsh couldn't take it cleanly. Why wasn't it paid? Ruse doesn't worry about it. He plays on the halfback. Lough is under all sorts of pressure. He slaps it towards the line. Stevens first to it. Won't keep it in play. Question I'll ask again. Why was it not played? I think Darren Jarman certainly liked it. He hasn't had many touches. But he thought he was going to have a set shot from 25 metres out directly in front. Perhaps again they're questioning the distance of the kick. But it certainly looked okay. The boundary throw and Crowe is attacking. Swann's doing well early in the third quarter. Wren worked to the front. Stafford got his hand on it. He's done well Stafford. And again a ball up. About 40 metres from Adelaide's goal. Let's have a look. Now Schwartz off the ground. Nobody's touched it. Gee, well, I don't know. That's a mark. That did look 10 metres at least. Little handball on the up was alright for the Crows. It's in the bog now. McPherson to the line. Jamison and Lewis together. Back to Resciuto. Hooks it back. Resciuto to the front of the square. Nix decides to build it to the line. And it's a behind. 48 to 35. So it is tight. And goals are going to be hard, aren't they? We had four to three a quarter time. We're 97 to five now. So it's really dried up. Nix and McLeod, one of the most interesting duels tonight on this ground. So he's going to bring it back in. He's got players very wide. He's going to kick out towards Duckley and Stafford who are two big men in terms of marking Stafford. Yeah, he did beautifully to Ruse. Ruse wobbles one in the locker direction. Pittman did very well in the back. Time that extremely well gives it off to Smart. Now he's got Tyson very wide. He's going to go that way. Tyson's going to have to run the line here. He's going to run it. He's full measure. He's got a foul on the ground once and then goes to half forward to Robyn. Big stretch. He's got him. Robyn's 60 metres out. Long way from home. Can really kick a foot in. And he goes to the front of the square. Tries the torpedo part and kicks it terribly. I think it was halfway between kicking him to the front of the goal and halfway between having a shot. It was an unusual kick off the boot, wasn't it? And it marked it with Shane Ellen who's just come back out onto the ground. I think it's the first time we've seen him, Ellen. Yeah, it's his first run. Thanks, girls. And it was Marsh. He replaced. So it's still a testing time for Sydney. Lewis tries to belt it clear. Swass is there. Tyson once again keeps the ball in play, gives it back. Down towards the forward zone, the mark taken by Lewis. At half back, Dale Lewis defends. Troy Lough takes the mark. Game number 100 for Troy Lough. He kicks into the man on the mark. That was McLeod. But he's able to go again. Straight to Nigel Smart. Smart gives it away towards Robyn. Forced on the left foot. Wobbles it up towards Connell. Back again to Robyn. He's 48 metres out. A deft little chip in towards half board. No mark taken. Maybe the wrong option. Sydney will clear. Here's McPherson. He pumps it up towards half board. Lockett is there. Stephens is there. Lockett's a long way out. He turns like the Queen Elizabeth Ocean liner. Gives it towards Swass. Here's a chance now for the left footers. Stewie McPherson. 60 metres out. Centering kick. Didn't go for distance. Cook and Hart now up against each other. Hart leads in the race. He can just poke it towards the line. Cook's got him. Could have been some holding on. Vickney's there to assist. The skipper does well. He calms them down and he gives it to Jarman. And Jarman goes towards Robyn. Couldn't handle it cleanly. Nicks will tidy up once more. They cross half back. Ball to ground once. You're going to have to be quick, Matthew. He is, but he gets underneath it. Kicks it in towards the middle. McPherson is the good spoiler. Falandia with his pistons pumping his court. Taken high. Not hard to tackle this man high. Jarman dead. And Falandia's away. He'll have to come back. Kick over the mark. Bruce, they're just being a bit common here. The unfiring without question is really favouring the Sydney Swanness. Well, the free kick division would suggest that. It is 20 to 5. And the mark for Jarman was clearly a mark. All right, curls, but just settled out. We're doing a national broadcast here. Smart, in trouble, under pressure. McPherson can pop it over to Lewis. He can't get clear. He needs assistance too. Look at them firing there, the Adelaide Crows. And there'll be another ball up. 12.5 remaining, tight at the moment. 5.5 to 7.6. Chris Mitchell, Scott McClaren and Mark against the umpires. So the Swanns mounting a challenge here. A strong challenge as you'd expect they would. Stafford, build it clear. Jarman just controls it. Well done. Boundary throw in at half back. Next goal is huge. I don't know how he's going to run the game out, but Lockett at centre half forward, his ground level agility, I think it's better than Pittman's. Just a question, I guess, with that aerobic ability to keep doing the running that's required playing half forward. Stafford front spot again, one at McPherson. Going to kick away, an important one. Pushes forward and a boundary throw. It's a good spot here for the Swanns. 35 to 48. And Lockett with two first quarter goals. He was electrifying early and has been dangerous all night. He wouldn't let him know every time he's got the footy, though, that he's been around him. Stafford, Wren, Wren probably just won. Caven and also Jamison. Jamison's quick kick, the half back. Vardy front spot, free kick. All mark paid. Vardy at half back. Little give was to Jamison running off him. Jamison floats one to centre wing. Rodber and front spot did very well pushing on. McLeod versus Nix, an important one. McLeod hung on to Nix, no free kick. Nix goes to ground. McLeod's still got his hand on him. Taken by Seymour. Little give to Orchard. He's in the end of the line. And again a boundary throw in. Intelligent play by Rodber. A few of our players, I think, have reasoned that it's a tall play. You're not going to be able to mark the ball. You'd best get better to just knock it in on and keep the ball running in your direction. Hepburn taking Lockett down to the full court area. Stafford, Rodber. Off the side by Seymour. Almost to the line. Not quite. Not going to go out free kick. I think going to Jamison. A push in the back against Seymour. He was trying to get to the contest. Jamison providing the shepherd for Connell. And he gets the free kick. Delivers the centre half forward. Rodber on as his target. Will he try and build up the back? Duckley goes for the belt. Tyson's on to it with Laff and also Maxfield. Free kick Tyson. High tackle. He's 50 metres from goal. The goal square's almost vacant for the moment. Leans back, kicks as far as he possibly can. Oh, well played by Ruse. In his last game here, he joins Bruce Dool tonight as the number five all time in a number of games. And he belts it out to Maxfield and stewies up. Got a little bit of time to have a look up towards centre wing. But Hart has Troy Cook's measure at the moment. And he's got assistance from Wren, who tumbles a punt back towards Ellen. He was clean-bowled. Ruse came out. This is the last roll of the dice for Paul Ruse. Is it going to be his final game? A farewell, not only for Missy G, but from the footy, another free kick's been picked out. It's going to go the way of the man I'm talking about, Paul Ruse. Wide at once more to the running Maxfield. To Falandia. They've got it over centre wing. Falandia has a look down in the forward line. O'Farrell starts coming out, but he's a long, long way back. The drop's short, and Sean Wren takes the mark. Rens attempting a spiral punt kick back towards centre wing. The Rue is in front. His claim, but has the mark. Mark Rusciuto up towards right half forward once more. O'Farrell was in front, was unable to complete the mark. Peter Kavan there working hard. Apparently gets booed to ball. Kick down towards James. James in the pocket. Orchards on his hammer. Pushed towards the line. And it's Shane Ellen. It's taken over by Andrew Dutney. There'll be a throw-in in the right-forward pocket. Shane Ellen, a hero in the grand final. Different ball game now as they try. And firstly, make it to another preliminary final, and then successive grand finals. Kavan. Got a kick, but it was only short. Orchard, taken to the line, loses the ball in the process, and is going to get a free kick. It was rammed in the back. So he'll clear from the back pocket with under 10 minutes remaining in this third quarter. Sydney has cut the lead, but in a low-scoring game where goals are difficult, they've got more to do yet. They're going to keep their finals chances alive. Look at the pick-up of Jarman. No wonder they call him the Rolls-Royce. Look at that. To Peter Vardy at half-forward. Yeah, good skills, wasn't it? Terrific ground-level ability by Jarman. He's had a reasonable night, as most of the Crows players have, and you couldn't get the ball if you wouldn't think in the hands of a better player to have a set shot 45 metres out. You prefer the team on the ball, don't you, like Lea at this stage, because in the foreline, he's played from behind and given away some silly free kicks. He does use the ball very well when he's on the ball, but you'd think Vardy, probably better than most, would be able to make the distance from 45 with a wet ball. Two goals, one. So far tonight, Peter Vardy, kicking from 47 metres. He is a sensational kick. He's got his third, and Adelaide are looking good. Tuesday after better homes and gardens on seven. Pull-up clearances 10-3 for Adelaide. 5-5, 8-6, so it's a handy break again for the Crows. We're basically back to half-time, and yet Sydney's worked so hard to get back. Stevens around the body. Hart's had a very good game at the back. Resciutto's take was terrific. Back to Hart. Hart belts at the centre half-forward. Robben did very well at the back. James couldn't quite. McLeod could. Vardy will kick his fourth, he'd reckon. Going, going, got it. A big one. Jeez, they were good through the centre. Resciutto and also Hart, and then they were clean at half-forward. And Vardy's having a big match. When you want those chances up forward, you want the ball in the hands of your best kicks, and Vardy's certainly proving to be that. You want your Germans, you want your Vardys to get the ball. It was fantastic hands from Resciutto. A good, quick, long kick from Hart. A good contest. Good handball by McLeod. It was beautiful. Sydney worked so hard to get within 13 points. It's got to take a heck of a lot out of them. And now suddenly they're staring at a 25-point deficit. 9-6 plays 5-5. O'Farrell beaten, Wren growing in confidence. Sydney needs something. Can they find it, though? Schwass kicks down towards half-forward. Back it comes towards O'Farrell. Hart belts it out of his hand. And the big man, who is a very exciting prospect, takes the free kick. It was interesting, when he came on half-back before that last goal, Hart, he actually kicked the flat punt. I think a lot of the crows players had started to kick the big flat punt rather than necessarily drop punts, just to try and get a bit of distance with the heavy ball. Disappointing kick. Like that one. That is a mighty kick in these conditions by Wren. Down towards half-forward, McLeod is lurking. Wharf is there. Luff is claimed. And they rip him to the ground with a gang tackle. Actually, Sandy, the Rashido Jarman movement between centre and forward is working. Luff attempts to slap it. Straight to Rashido, who goes bang with a big kick from behind. I think Lottie used to be keen on the old flat punt. Well, I could remember that if I could remember almost 20 years ago, North Melbourne, I think, Ron Brassi, in one of the grand finals in the mid to late 70s, I think said to his players, let's try and keep the flat punt's torpedo, just to get a little extra distance. And certainly I've got a feeling that's what the crows have started to do tonight, just try and kick the ball, the flat punt, just try and let it... It certainly works when the ball's wet. Yeah, yeah. Just over seven minutes remaining, and really, for City to have any hope now, they've got to do something in this third term. Dunkley flicks it to Luff, in turn looks down towards the youngster in Sandington. He's got to go again in the second attempt, gets boot to ball, and the Brews will see it towards the line. Spinning, it keeps it in. Back to Jason Sandington. A high ball in towards Halford. Lewis, a couple of grabs, unable to take it cleanly. Falandia around the body. The little left foot goes towards Smart. Her lock then comes charging out. Goodwin and Orchard give chase. Orchard crouches there too, towards the line. He skis. Going to be kept in play, however. Goodwin does well. He picks it up now. And look at this. There's a murder of crows on the other side. Four of them all at once. They can lope down the forward line. This could produce anything from right half forward in towards centre half forward. Vardy is there. Robyn is there. So too McLeod. No-one able to take it cleanly. Maybe it's Rashido. A short little chip. That's going to be OK. Peter Vardy, guess who? 40 metres out, 45 degree angle. Now, Lee, how does it happen that you have four players on their own out there all of a sudden? That is an interesting point. They certainly got out there quick. They were either shooting behind and they were lucky or...but certainly you don't very often see four players alone on the wing when the ball comes out of defence. Often one. That was incredible, wasn't it? Stevens running down. He was the player who kicked it. And now Vardy to cap off a memorable quarter. This is third for the quarter. And this to go a long way towards it shutting the gate. Kicks it so well, doesn't it? He kicks it fantastically. Ah! Telstra Big Pond makes it easy to do business on the internet. It's a moment of truth. 5-5 to 10-7. Vardy with five goals. Three in the third quarter. Crouches quick kick forward. This is where the Crows have been so good at half back. Vickley to Cavern. And again they just push forward as far as they can. Robbren almost. Taken by Seymour. Read it beautifully. Pushes wide to Falandia. They've had trouble breaking through the half forward line. And Falandia's got it at centre wing. They've set something up. Schwass is clear for him at half forward. He decides to go to centre half forward. He's got Mooney. He's had a pretty quiet night, Mooney. Mooney squeezes to Luff. Luff's got it. They're still playing dry weather footy though. And Luff moves about 80 metres from goal. Kicks to Schwass. Outnumbered. Built it away by Wren. A lot of them coming in. But Costa pretty happy to see the ball go over the line. Bruce, the big plus for Vardy, or for the Crows, is that Vardy is playing on the wing. Not the half forward. Not the first goal-scoring wingman the Crows have ever had. Had a big game tonight, Newell. Spending a fair bit of time forward, girls. I can tell you. I don't care where he's starting. I think he's working one way, Lee. Costa. Saddington. Around the body. Gets to full forward. Stamford getting underneath it. Couldn't take the mark. Haven at the back. O'Farrill onto him. A smart O'Farrill's ball. Smart off the ground. Only as far as Nix. Now Nix can straighten up and go for goal. Gives it all he's got. Wren getting back with Stamford. He's got it, the big fellows. Had the box seat, really. Stamford was desperately trying to get back to make a contest. And Wren takes the mark in the goal square. So the Crows have got a very good lead here at 5-5 to 10-7. They certainly had a much improved third quarter, Sean. Wren is really starting to play a part in this game. Just over four minutes remaining. And almost five goals down, Sydney. And you can consider they've managed only five for the game so far. The task is a huge ask. But stranger things have happened. Peter Falandia is having a spell on the bench with Troy Cook. Falandia just coming off in the last 60 seconds. Wren gets another touch. Costa tries to slap it clear. They've got the chance through Tyson to go forward again. Down towards Robyn. He picked that up beautifully. But then lost it towards the line with Orchard. And Seymour coming in late. Forces the throw-in. 10-4 is always a difficult position here on SCG. But Robyn certainly played well tonight. Pushing the ball on. And the opportunity he gets. Stafford. There is Robyn. You were speaking about Defer. Maxfield's little toe poke goes probably 20 metres. Certainly as Kirl said, if you could say that Vard is the wingman. The other wingman certainly is Tyson. So those two spots have very much gone in the crow's way. They've been very good, those two. 15 possessions for Tyson. He's done well. Again, chipped towards the line. So we're sitting out there at the moment as Rod Jamison picks himself up. Yeah, with that Vardy one, Lee. I think he's mixing it up a bit with Connell. I think they're swinging a bit there. Wren and Stafford. Lewis and Jamison at the back. An attempted sock off the ground by Costa. Didn't work. Up towards Halford and Mooney. And they will take it cleanly, but they've got it inside 50. Maybe something here for Sydney as Wayne Trost takes the hand pass. And Loughran, touch the ball. He read the ball quickly. He'd done a good play. The good forwards read the quick forward. It wasn't a pass, was it? He just took the first step or two and led Goodman to the ball. Very difficult for Goodman. He's playing beside him. I think perhaps in that situation playing on a player like Loughran should probably be a step in front of him. Michael O'Loughan for his third. From 35 metres he's raised to the left. Just, just, I mean, last week, of course, the Swans played in similar conditions to this. Do you think they allotted us to dull the edge on speed, those kind of conditions? I mean, the Crows played on a firm surface in Melbourne. Yeah, I think playing a couple of weeks in a row on heavy track can certainly take a little bit of the life out of your legs. It's a training too during the week, isn't it? Yeah. The track's very heavy and they've had so much rain here. Hart's kick out wide. Cavern, who is a left footer, pushes the ball wide. Bickley's there. Well done, though, getting underneath him there was McPherson. And then Crouch pushed towards the line in a boundary throw. It's interesting with O'Loughan. I was just thinking when Sandy said he's going for his third, I feel like he's had a game that's produced four or five goals, but he's only had the two. It's dried up a bit for him, hasn't it? I mean, he's had a couple of shots that have missed. He's certainly looked their most dangerous forward, but they haven't got a... They haven't got a goal line early in the quarter. They haven't got a Vardy-like return in terms of what's actually happened on the scoreboard. Smart. A little toe poke try by Costa. Mooney got there. O'Loughan again. Maybe he can make a third run down, though, at the back by Goodwin. Hart has had a very, very good game. Lock it with him. Costa can straighten the body. Freaky, I think, to Hart against Tony. Push in the back. So Hart, Ben Hart in the back pocket. I think he just knew that Hart was probably going to outpace him and just try to tackle a bit too much. Lewis and Jamison. He's peaking. Peaking for holding the ball, so Jamison's got a free kick here. That's the first one of the night, Bruce. I think Kels is throwing the tallies away as well. Two in a row. Forgotten all about it. Jamison, the old flat punt trying again. Robbren couldn't quite mark it, but he is competing. Hambill was only average. Maxfield against the flow like Schwasted earlier in the night. Push off the ground by Nix and then Luff building towards the line. Quite frankly at the moment, the Swans are desperate. There's no doubt. They're in a holding pattern. They just don't want to get to throw the ball in. Bruce, just on that one of our lock, when you look at the shots he's missed and the shots that Barty's taken, that's the difference between the two teams. And it's a point you mentioned at the start of the game, Neil, was the importance of actually converting tonight because you're not going to get a whole heap of chances. Jamison's kick towards just bouncing inside the line and a boundary throw. And so the Crows have really got a strangle hold on this at the moment. It's 5-6 to 10-7. And Dipper Stafford off the ground? Yes, sir. He's OK, but he's just off the ground obviously. He's had a big point in these conditions. There he is with Philandia and Cook. Robbren doing the rut work from behind. Luff in front. Barty's there. Free kick going all the way up Troy Luff. He'll take it at half back. Just on a minute remaining. A lot of marks in centre wing in this third quarter. Kicks towards half forward. The Adelaide defence has been solid. Nigel Smart gives it away to Randy. He's got Jarman on the other side. Jarman on centre wing with the Dudley giving chase. The master is clear and he looks towards half forward. Robbren is at the back. There are a couple of them there. Pushed towards the line. Orchard is late on the scene. James there as well. There'll be a throw in in the right forward blocker. And that flowy off half back. Smart at his 21st possession. I think the Swans have now got John Stevens on him. Just trying to draw Smart out of the play. He's been a big stumbling blocker. He just keeps getting it. Doesn't matter what type of play he plays on. I think that's his great strength. Cook about to come on as well. Critical times again though for Sydney. As Adelaide have it in that attacking zone. Maxfield unable to take it. Tried to apply the pressure with the tackle and he goes again. Stewie Maxfield gets a kick out towards the centre wing. His target was O'Loughlin on this occasion. Beaton however, good when it's a high kick in towards full forward. Again Sydney had the numbers. Swans just heads for a bit of space. Heads for the boundary line. And brings it out of the immediate danger zone. Forcing another throw in. This is Stevens off the ground. Sorry, Lee. And Cook back on just for the last few seconds. I'll try and draw Smart out of play. But Smart's just playing a loose defensive coverage. And they play 15-20s. Block them off at the pass. And just continues to get in the right percentage positions. Lough Jostling for front spot. McLeod taken to the ground. Did he have it? Farty's hand pass goes astray. It was taken by Swans. Down towards Sattekin. He's in the middle of the ground at the moment. Has Troy Cook going past? He's just come on. Cook looks down towards Lockett. County comes plugger. An effective spoil by Pittman however. Maxfield skis towards half back. Taken away and pushed towards the centre wing area. First to it will be Cook. Hart is right on his hammer. Hart's got him. And that will be all for the quarter as Nigel Smart picks it up. And comes it towards James at centre wing. Three quarter time. Out comes Malcolm Blythe. Just one quarter away maybe from another preliminary final. And another crackly at the Western Bulldogs. Yes certainly they're looking very, very strong. They had that hiccup last week against Melbourne. But they have continued to not. They're in the form of the last few weeks. Stafford was spelled. He's walking out now to meet his teammates in the huddle. Maybe for the final time this year the loser out for the finals race. That worst nightmare hit of Kelly after the year and Kresol off for the night. Smart would always have struggled with that. Three quarter time. Adelaide 10-7. Sydney a 5-6. Hello again. Well I hope you're enjoying tonight's game. Our forecast is for a cool day with isolated showers. But they will clear during the day. The evidence is overwhelming. It appears we have just missed them. The Coca-Cola is still cold. And all they had to do to win was collect four tokens. Let's go live to Paulo Souza at the Mardi Gras. Peter Barty showing the way. He has booted five. A reminder now for those trivia buffs. And they're a number two within the commentary team as I speak. Join Bruce and the boys for the All-Australian team. Special edition of Talking Footy right here on seven. To the boundary line, Curls and Dipper boys. Thank you Sandy. Two big points from Malcolm Blythe then. One by the first is the first time I've seen Sean Wren smiling at three quarter time for about five weeks. And also Malcolm's big instructions, keep the pressure on Sydney when they get the ball. The Sydney Swans are still very good in there. Obviously they need to get the first two goals up for the first two goals in this quarter. And Rocket Belize is well... Two one album. Two. The first two albums. And it's two for five. Thank you boys, off we go. The final terminus, Lewis who gets the kick down towards the half forward line. Past McPherson, and Lockman almost threw it out to Stewie Maxwell. Down fire didn't see it, so Stewie keeps going. Tyson applies the pressure, pushes towards the line and Maxwell takes it over on the full. He can't believe it. Sydney will see it. Brought out by Nigel Smart from the back pop. He kicks towards centre wing. The smiling Wren appeared to be edged out. Stappen has paid the ball. Kicks in towards half forward. And a good mark taken by the youngster Jason Saddington. Came on in the third term. Saddington at half forward. Kicking from just inside 50. He's still got the dry ball. The player's just going to misjudge that, he was the only one who really went for the ball in the air. He's an exciting young player. He's pushed that away to the right in game. A mark overtaken by Locker. Nice time coming, Lee. What'll he do? Oh, he's off. The other guy killed time off. How do you think you'll kick it? What kind of technique? He'll go back and kick a banana now I think. At least bring a little bit of life into the crowd if you can put him through. Wouldn't it, yeah. Has not kicked the goal tonight. He's holding it like a drop punt. Come out the left side, let's see what he does. Kicking his way through. Going for the drop punt. Gee, that's a sense. There is a champion at work. It all started with Jim and two McDonald's quarter pounders. And now it's here, McDonald's double quarter pounder with cheese with two beef patties and three slices of cheese. Only McDonald's double quarter pounder with cheese is the official burger of the AFL. Get ready for the ultimate adrenaline rush at the 1998 Qantas Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix October 2-4 at Phillip Island. Book now through Ticketmaster on 131641. The 1998 Qantas Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix. It's adrenaline to burn. A mighty roar, Lockett's first shot for goal tonight and he scores. Costa got it to Jarman. Jarman belts it down. Swans within four goals. Front spot Dunkley, got a free kick, deserved it. Got to the front and did well. So can the Swans lift here? The crowd behind them, 6-6 to 10-7. Plugger maintains his record of kicking a goal in every match that he's played in this year. The only player in the comp to have done that. As Crouch goes to set a half forward. O'Farrell worked underneath. A good mark at the back by Wren. An important mark. Red at centre half back. Trying that flat punt. Costa front spot. Prepared to take the bump from the back. Push forward by Vardy. In front was Seymour. Should have got a free kick. Vardy's paid. It's a dug. Oh, he's dropped on the boot terribly. Mooney now has to go backwards. Had Maxfield wide. He goes wide to Maxfield now. Center-legged. 6-6, 10-7. Can the Swans get another one? O'Farrell's got it about 80 metres from goal. Locket's in the goal square. O'Loughlin's in front of him. O'Farrell goes to centre half forward. Setting to the target. Coming across in the front there. It was a German heart. Cook's little handball. German cut it off cleverly. Can't get rid of it. Brought to ground. And it's going to be a ball up about 40 metres from goal. You feel as if Sydney is making its last move here, don't you? If they can't succeed here. It's a matter of a bit of a challenge. I think they've got that first goal and just got a little bit of momentum going. I think if Adelaide can win in the next five minutes without conceding another goal or two, they'll be right. So the big time now for the Swans and also the Crows. Crowd roaring. German getting some important touches in this last quarter. Pushing very wide towards half back. Vardy and Wharf out after it. And also coming in this Costa hard. Costa gets a second go. Wharf onto him and going towards the line was Schwass. And he belts it over the line. He's found touch a lot tonight, Wayne Schwass. Either by kicking it or belting it over the line. So 67 to 42. Bruce, if Sydney are going to lift, it has to be in the next five or six minutes. Yes. No tomorrow for the loser. It's all over. So they've got absolutely nothing to lose. They've got to throw everything they've got. As Vardy goes with an underground hand pass down the wards. Half forward. Picked up once again by Nixon. He goes back to centre wing. Kept in play though by German. Picking up touches, as Bruce said. Off to Robyn. Adelaide go forward once again. It's a mighty punt. Dudley in front. Conor was at the back but he couldn't take the mark. Pickman over there. Picked up by Ruse. Wobbles it towards half back. They need something now. Wharf looks towards Mooney. Jason Mooney's away. The left footer. It's low. It's long. Lock it. In the middle of the ground. He wants to get on with the dog. The crowd is right behind him. He looks towards Lockett. He's peeled off down towards half forward. Around swings Lockett. He needs something in half forward and he's gone. Get him in there and the trailer. Well yes he hasn't been able to mark the ball terribly well played. He's not those types of people. He hasn't got a lot of stats but I must say he's worked hard in his ground level. At Julian, when Pickman is the big fella who will match him in the air but at ground level, Lockett is a fair bit more agile. He has turned particularly well when he's been able to get the ball. He's really turned Pickman around and Pickman hasn't been able to go around in the same tight arc. Well this is a big kick for Troy Lough. A big kick for Sydney. Directly in front. 48 metres out. It's going to test him. Oh he's got finesse. He's starting to rub it in. You can get it jumping. You can get it pumping. You can get it pressing a suit. A hard earned thirst needs a big cold beer. And the best cold beer is Vic. A long cold Vic. You can get it lifting. You can get it shifting. You can get it any old hell. Matter of fact I got it now. Vic Bitter. Still that big rule. 37,498 the official attendance. The biggest crowd for the season here tonight. And we still might get another grandstand finish. Good hands to Rosciuto. Straightens the body. Floats at the full forward. Taken by Rintoul. Can't quite break it. Back to James. Goes to Brown. Fell over. Cleverly gets it back. Jarman can't get it cracking at the umpire on his road. Lewis over the top. Ball up. That's what I said a quarter time. The body language is the swans and the voice is up Bruce. And Rocket just said kick those first two goals and the crowd will get you back in it. Giving themselves a chance to dip. No doubt about that. Gee that was an amazing kick by James. He was lying on the ground and he kicked that back. Thinking all the time. Luff over the top. McLeod. Who was very important earlier in the match. Vardy who's been basically the difference in a way forward. And again a boundary throw. And umpire coming in quickly. 67 to 48. Swans making a run here. With Lockett and Luff scoring. There's the crossbench. Edwards and Connell. Their run could be important in the last quarter. Robran and Luff. Dunkley. Mighty Raw still going chart around the ground. James. Ridden into the ground. And again a bit of ball up. And still a bit of feeling there. Jarman pointing something out to the umpire. It was a gang tackle. Three of the swans players attacking. And even though the swans seem to have a little bit of momentum and they've got the crowd on their side. They still must kick the next goal to stay in touch. I think they did remember. There's a replay of James kick a moment ago. That was clever. Very clever. I think a moment ago when James was on the bottom. I think a couple of the swans players remembered something that early tonight. Vardy to kick number six. Oh he's done it again. He's done it again. Vardy's kicked six. We've developed a car to cut through air faster. Which makes it quiet, more fuel efficient and increases its stability and road holding. The Mitsubishi Magnum V6. The most aerodynamic Australian built car. It'll blow the competition away. Well it's taken only one player to prick the Sydney balloon but by word he's done it well. Peter Vardy as Wren wins it again. Wolfe tries to slap it but it's Robyn who pushes it down towards McLeod. They're starting to go on confidence now. At half-ball with Jarman there's been a whistle. And it'll come back. It's going to be a... yep. It's a good start. It's a good kick for James. I think they've... There's been a bit going on with him in the last couple of minutes. The bottom line is he's only got to say we'll have a look at the scoreboard. At the moment Adelaide is looking the goods 11-7 to 7-6. I think you might find that Dunkley just took James out after he disposed of the ball. Remember he kicked one goal in the first quarter. Not a big long kick. This is only probably a 40 metre kick. Just... At the time it well I would think he'd have thrown it to me. He's kicking from just on 40 but he could seal it for Adelaide. And Robyn charges clear. He knows he's got it. You'd think now that that would just about take the emotion out of the Sydney Swans. They gave it their all. They dominated the first seven or eight minutes. They kicked two goals all of a sudden. In the space of a couple of minutes they've answered twice. It's just McLeod over to James and I guess the... It's a little bit indiscriminately. Bit late. Got the answers at the moment. They've had them all night haven't they, the Crows? They've been able to answer quickly most of the time. 7-6 to 12-7. A mighty task now for the Swans. You would think impossible cost a clever to Rashudo. Who's away? Rashudo's going to go with a long one and kicks to the pocket. Jarvan Mark can't quite. It's going to be a boundary thrown in the pocket. I think the Crows have got a taste now. 79 to 48. They're going in for what's called the Cure. 12-7 to 7-6. Robyn and Luff. Luff front spot. Robyn in the back. McLeod read it beautifully. Couldn't quite get it back. True for a behind. You shouldn't count their chickens too quickly. But when you consider Adelaide's record on the road, Sandy mentioned earlier they've been on the road for a while. They've won in five states. They've come here twice this year. They've won one and they look like winning another. They've had a pretty good year away from home. And that was their nemesis, wasn't it? Before Malcolm Blight went to the club. The thing they couldn't do was get out of Footy Park and win a big one. Here's Seymour. Who knows? They've just got a couple more trips. And it might be back to back. Luff's hand pass towards Schwass, who then tries to steam his way through. Lewis now lunges off the boot of Rashido. Then Schwass past Paul Rouse and over the line. Throw in on Cinderwing. Just maybe saw Paul Rouse there. Maybe going into his last 20 minutes of league football after many, many years. Just thinking that with what, 356 games? What a magnificent play he's been, firstly with the Fitzroy Football Club and then really rejuvenated when he came up here, Lee. A wonderful, wonderful player. Wayne Schwass now has it on Cinderwing. Kicks towards Dale Lewis, who's been very good the last couple of weeks. Sensational last week. He's tried his heart out. So too has O'Loughlin. He marks between Wing and half forward. O'Loughlin pumps it long. Lockett's caught behind. There's a wall in front of him. And one of the bricks in that wall was Peter Kaven. Comes back towards Nigel Smart and Rob Ryn. It's the latter who pushes it down towards Rashido, but it's stolen by Maxfield. He decides to go long with Stewie Maxfield, and he slams it into the post. 31-point margin. Rashido will bring it back for Adelaide. When Rashido and Jamani have been on, the ball has gone back and actually done the kicking duties. Both do it pretty well. There's Smart in front of Stevens. Kaven was unable to take the door. Maybe opens the swast by crouch. Kicks up towards John Stevens and Jason Sanningham. Stevens first to it. Will need assistance. He's tucked on the boundary line. In fact, was taken over. Good pressure again. And it's that sort of pressure that Adelaide's been applying all night. It sees them heading towards another preliminary final. 80 plays, 49. A margin of 31 points. Yes, Andy. The only ball getting for this one's I've got is a lock-in at this stage. Jamison over the top. Schwass, Kosta with him. Crouch just pushing forward. James gets in hard. Crouch wins it back towards Mooney. Mooney probably would have been penalised there. James' handball was good. Rashido gets huge distance to fall forward. Dunkley pushing forward. Courageously well played. Gets it to Luff. Luff out wide. Gets it to Mooney. They must be clean here, the Swans. Mooney just hit a half-ordered. Farrell's got it. He's a good kid. Lockets in the goal square. Oh, he's wanted to get it on the hurry. Wings it well to hold him up. Well played, Jarman. Very clever. Two-caven. Caven belts for the Crows. Dangerous here. McLeod couldn't quite hold it. Farty was lurking at the back. It's going to be a bounce or a throw-up actually. About 40 metres from Adelaide's goal. They're looking good, the Crows. It's 12.8 to 7.7. Made all the running here tonight. As O'Farrell's coming from the ground and Stafford's coming back. Can the Swans produce a miracle? And they really do need one now. Dunkley written into the ground. Held up. And again, a ball up. There's O'Farrell in his rookie season. Essentially O'Loughlin has been pretty good, pretty dangerous. But nothing quite stuck with Simon Goodwin for the entire game. Farty, little handball. Or rather, he got it from Rintoul I think. I'll get it right. Now Farty gave it to Rintoul. And it's going to be a ball up. There's O'Farrell on the blower to Ead. Robbran, Farty, kick six. Now across the face. Fair left foot kick. What's that? It's only gone about 60 metres. It's great to see him doing so well. Obviously last year he hurt his shoulder and missed out in the finals. Well he and Rashido missed that grand final. And in Modera of course. It's going to be interesting to see Modera's future, whether or not he will play any part in next weekend's plans for the Crows. If they hang on and frankly at the moment, they look safe. Seven, seven to twelve, nine. I think that could be a fair talking point, especially in Adelaide in the next four or five days. Here's Orchard. Jarman's got his measure. Ruse. McLeod couldn't take it. The high kick goes down towards James and he marks. Farty in the square on his own. Can't get it over the top there. If Modera wasn't in the Crows' plans for tonight, early in the week, they didn't know it was going to be wet conditions, one would doubt whether he's going to be in their plans just because you're playing the Bulldogs instead of the Swans. James with a check side. He's got number three. And they're doing it well now Adelaide. You can get it rolling. You can get it going. You can get it feeding the fire. A hard earned thirst needs a big cold beer. And the best cold beer is thick, thick bitter. It can come at any time, finishing up chow or showing them how. Matter of fact, I got it now. Thick bitter. Six goals to Farty, three goals to James, and back in the middle of the ball up with Moody and Wren. One by the latter, Lewis has hassled out of it. Kosta and Jarman are there in force, pushed up towards McPherson who steadies now and looks down towards the forward line, down towards Lockett and Pippen and O'Loughlin. Michael O'Loughlin, the hand pass over the top. Look out, Johnny Stevens. Stevens' goals. He was just there, that came off his knee when he ran in and kicked that. I think it went down to his foot off his knee. It took your eyes away. I think it actually did. Well, I might be wrong. I thought it hit his knee and then hit his foot. Let's have a look because it certainly did look like it came off the upper part of his knee. Oh, you might be right. One-two. Slid down to his shin. Good enough. O'Loughlin's clever, isn't he? He just waited that handball perfectly. Still a steady stream of Swan supporters leaving the SCG, even though there's ten minutes to go. 8-7, 13-9. Last time the Swans will play here this year, no matter the result. Lewis goes to ground. Robbren onto him. Goes back to Jamison. Jamison's kick back to Orchard. Orchard belts back. Here's a chance. Mooney's all alone. The kicker goal. Decides to go to Plunker. Got him. No. Not paid. Lock it on hands and knees. Back to Saddington. Saddington high, round the corner. And O'Loughlin and Goodwin in the pocket in that muddy bit and a boundary throw. I guess Mooney, he probably had to go to Locker, but he had the goals, didn't he? It was interesting. Yes, they get used to going to the big fella leading up. Certainly did a good job hitting him to actually get there, to make sure there's enough pressure. The poor Ross and Niles. Probably one that Blayton would normally swallow. Yep. It's a good lead and a good kick. Cook off the ground. Doesn't quite get to it. Did he get a push? Stevens. Smart. Boundary throw. Croes 87. Swans 55. Smart's been terrific. Wonderful first three quarters. He and Hart were impregnable in the third turn at half back. 87 to 39. And Adelaide, who has statistically had the best defense in the competition for the last two seasons, well, their defenses stood up very well tonight. They were bombarded a bit last week, but tonight they've got their reputation back intact. It's Wren Belsable back to the center. Laugh, good hip and shoulder on him. Pressure then put on McPherson. This is where the Croes have been good all night. The Orchard did well to bring it back towards half forward. Shadding's in there. Well read by Cook. Little give was OK. Nick's caresses it towards O'Loughlin. He's got him. And Nicky deserves another goal. He's played well enough to kick four or five tonight. He's got the mark about 45 meters out, so it won't be easy for him with the heavy ball. Certainly that shoulder was causing a little bit of trouble as well. Hanging a little bit when he's not really thinking. But certainly been a good player, hasn't he? It's an interesting one, isn't it? O'Loughlin has really made him pay for every mark that he's had. He hasn't been pinned for 50 for any one of them, but he's walked a tight line there, I feel. O'Loughlin, 45 meters out. Pushing, pushing, pushing. Did Loughlin touch it or is it a goal? I think it's a goal. MUSIC Well, Sidney won't lie down. O'Loughlin again wakes the crowd and just reminds them, maybe there's a chance. There's still time. Eight minutes left. Down towards half forward. Stevens went early. Now he's got to recover. He does. Tries to push it forward. Look at the pressure applied by Adelaide. No, Jarman gives it to Smart. And Nigel Smart cruises out of defense. Pushes wide in front of James. Orchard leads in the race. You'll see it over the line. Sandy, the one big feature for the Crows at this particular stage is Wren's jumping at the center bounce. He's starting to leap through the ball again. Something he hasn't done for quite a few weeks. One of many positive points to come out of tonight's game for the Crows. There's Robyn on the outer side with Troy Lough. Playing game number 100. Back in towards the middle with Cook. Beaten, however, Jarman gets a call out wide. He's got a number of options there. Peter Kaven, twisting, turning, dodging and weaving. Eventually wobbles it down towards the 50 once again where it sails over the line. With Lough. 26 points the margin. The second half at one stage. Sydney threatened when they got to within 13. But Adelaide have been able to answer. Usually keeping it around the 19 or 20 point barrier. But now just starting to stretch it. I think something that's been very important for the Adelaide Crows has been the rough work of Matty Robyn in the forward line. He's really held his own whether it be against Stafford or against Mooney or another opponent. There is Robyn and Mooney. Look at the pick up by McCloud. Finish it off Andrew and around the body he goes. And that looks at sail over the top for another goal. There's a bomb on a bus. If it drops below 50 it blows up. Get ready for Russia. Keanu Reeves. Sandra Bullock. Speed, Sunday, 8.30 on 7. She can get bad. These are my prings. Did you see that? And she certainly knows how to get even. Oops. But surely she wouldn't shoplift. Contraceptive jelly. Tape shows you putting it in your pocket. Ally McBeal, Monday, 8.30 on 7. McCloud 3, James 3 and Vardy 6. Ren again as Neil Curley said a moment ago. Getting over the top. Robyn tried a little one off the ground. Taken by Rasciutto. Caught up. Good tackle by Luff. And it's going to be a ball up. There have been important contributions. When you think of it the marking players really are going to struggle. We knew that before the game even started. So to get 10 goals from three of your ground level types, that's how you win wet weather games. Dunkley Wye. Saddington. Rintoul with him and Ben Hart. Saddington out number completely. Rintoul goes back to Rasciutto. Rasciutto back towards Ren. He has to bend down a long way. Has the confidence to go to Bigley. Bigley's kick wide to half forward. Taken by Lewis. Lewis trying a little topo with also Rasciutto. It was on this ground that they lost a very important player closing Troy Bond for the season. He was that ground level player who had a huge grand final. And he kicked four goals. And provided a second and third option up forward. And have been able to get some good returns tonight. Crouched quickly. Pushed forward by Ruse. His last five or six minutes of a wonderful career. Stephens' handball on the up. Back to Crouch. Crouched to fall forward. A lock and good stretch at the front. At the back is Pippen who go off the ground. Lock it out after him. And it's a boundary throw in. The Crows a very cosy lead at 93 to 61. It's amazing tonight they've obviously used Pippen back on locker. But Pippen and Ren when they sort of end the game at the team at the same time. The Crows are really very important in those two. No question they did miss Pippen against the Demons didn't they last week. As Haven goes off the ground. Rintoul and a boundary throw in. Well there's very few Ruckman types. And I mean Pippen has been a fully fled Ruckman who can go back and play very competent tall defence. He's done a good job tonight on locker. Obviously the grand final last year on Stuart Lowe is just a very valuable player with that extra string to his bow. Five and a half minutes remaining. James has it locked up. Paul Ruse. Wanting to enjoy his last five minutes. As an AFL player. 356 games. 289 goals he's been quite outstanding. And a marvellous ambassador too for the game. This is Haven though at the moment. His time will come. Schwoz. Really. He's had a fit of the fumbles for a lot of the night Wayne. Especially in the first quarter. But it was a cake of soap and he wasn't on his own. Watch out for McLeod in the thick of things once again. And very close. Here he is. Sweeps out the hand pass towards Tyson. He loses it. Sydney have a chance on half back at the moment. This is Rowan Wharf. Heading back in towards the centre. Spotted Dale Lewis. If it sits he might be OK. If it doesn't he's in trouble. Almost coat hanger Jamison. Wharf goes again. Rides the bump but loses it. McPherson gets a hurried wobbly old kick. Screws towards the line. Tyson leads in the race. He's taken towards the line with Stuie Maxfield. He holds it up there. Sandy when you compare the Crows performance tonight as opposed to Melbourne last week. Melbourne were very very good. We all know that. But the Crows last week were getting to the ball second and socked on too many occasions tonight. That hasn't been the case. That was an extraordinary performance wasn't it last week. Not only a great performance by Melbourne but an insipid one by Adelaide as Maxfield again takes it to the line. It's that numbers to the contest. Just a number of times you would have looked on your television screen and seen more Crows jumpers out numbing the Swans. They've certainly had more zipping their legs today or tonight. Tyson leaving the ground for Adelaide. Lewis has kicked partly smart and only travels as far as Jarman on centre wing. Matty Connell has just come off the end of James. Pumps it high in towards the 50 once again. Roo's got a hand or two to it. It wasn't enough. James gives a hand pass to Smart. Back it goes to James. Off to Jamison. Look at Roozy finishing off on a high. Strong bump. It falls to Orchard. He kicks it up towards the half forward line. Saddington has a fresh air shot. Look at the Rolls Royce as he just scoops it up with one hand. Kicks it up towards Stevens. Unable to take the mark. Orchard pounces on it once again for Sydney. Back it comes to Roo's. Chips away towards the centre wing and they've got a chance to go forward through Peter Falandia. Centering the ball. Connell underneath it. Cook getting into his back. Free kick at Vannies. Paid. Vardy over the top to Rosciuto. To Costa through the centre. Costa on his left foot. Just a slow old ball towards full court. Stevens has got it. Coming in from the side. He was probably at one stage the best defender for the Crows last week when they were getting swamped early. And in the end he had to succumb as well. And he's taken a good mark about 30 metres out. It's a good kick as we know because he's been, came to the Crows as a forward. Just the 30th mark for the Crows for the match which is a low number. But it's been one of those nights. About 40 odd more possessions though Sydney which just goes to prove possessions don't mean much in modern footy. It's just how you use them isn't it? So Stevens 35 metres out. And he's missed. I guess the interesting situation looking ahead. The Swans really look like they've been a bit sluggish in the legs from playing in these kind of conditions last year. So not just how's it going to affect the Crows going into next week's preliminary final. Interesting point Lee. Maybe we're going to be in for a wet final series. Who knows. Look at this. Connell kicks it high towards full forward. Nix defends. James has got his hammer. Nix goes off the ground. It passes Troy Lough. Spills away towards Ruse. He needs assistance. Connell almost intercepted. Has spent a lot of time on the bench. Will go again. Jameson comes in over the top. Paul Ruse is there. There'll be a ball up. 40 metres out from Adelaide's scoring zone. Stevens one of the last up. Few players can perch on him but the old sandwich. Three. Going nowhere. Look back Lee and Jason. Crows won by 37 points here in around 14. They're 33 points in front tonight. They've had their measure haven't they. They've had two cracks of them in Sydney. And they've been able to beat them pretty comfortably both times. On that day it was restricted to a couple. By Pittman. So Marsh is back out on the ground. As Bruce said a crowd of just under 37,500 tonight. Marvellous turnout by Sydney. To support this side and of course the Adelaide Crows. Stevens gets a little attention. We get on with the job. In the last few minutes. The John Stevens pass was smothered. The kick by McCloud. Was a little wide out of bounds. Says something when next door today. Canterbury played Newcastle in a knockout big big final. 23,000 to the Rugby League and here tonight 37,000 for the Swans. Nothing wrong with this game at the minute. Caven comes over the top and affects the spoil. Lewis. He's battled hard. His 150th game Dale Lewis. Looks like an unmade bet but he's very effective as he goes down towards O'Loughlin. And this man has all the skills. He bends it back and he keeps it in play. Here comes the steam train into Tony Lockett. Another throw in. I will say one thing that I'm sure is pleased Malcolm Bly tonight. Would be the form of Darren Jarman. The longer the game goes the more he's got into it. And whilst he hasn't had I guess a swag of positions. They've all been quality. Never grew without Jason. He made himself into a bit of form didn't he last week with a lot of the bosses. Yeah they probably didn't add up to a whole lot in the context of that match but he's been very clean tonight. And he's played a big last quarter as a sort of sweeper. So another ball up. So it's the Crows and the Bulldogs next Saturday. Won't that be a build up? Welcome back. We'll see a whole lot of what happened on the same day last year where they got over 70,000 to the Belmont Cricket Ground. The ball into the centre. Nix McLeod. Rintall hard onto it. Nix still chasing. Rintall goes to ground. The Bull now in dispute. McLeod trying to weave a bit of magic. He's been good again tonight. Duckley belts it out. Seymour well done. Gets it to McPherson. McPherson saw Lewis Whiten. Found him. It was a good kick. Lewis quickly on to Maxfield with a bit of vision. Maxfield at centre wing running down the line. Kicking in the O'Loughlin direction. And Mickey's got it again. He has had a very good match. Sweetly to Cook. Doesn't get paid. Goes to ground. Saddington to Schwass. Schwass on his right leg. Hooks it back well and he's kicked the goal. This first. Every movie he makes is a mega hit. I mean I don't want you to look stupid right? Crimson Tides, Denzel Washington. I ain't scared to die for what I believe in. How about you? Ricochet, 10 o'clock tonight right after the Swans-Crows match on Adelaide's Channel 7. Oh how stupid can you get? Yes! Now a blue healer's doing something stupid. What do you got for those then? Monday 9.30 on 7. One word to side of you Kim. Something stupid after Ali McFeel. Inside the last minute as Wayne Schwass gets his first goal for the night. 10-7 plays 14-10. Out of the middle. Crouch had it for a moment but lost it. Wren couldn't get an effective kick away. Cook is lurking there as well. Koster over the top with Stuart Maxfield and Jarman at the bottom. I know Terry Wallace and Brian Royal from the Western Bulldogs have been here to have a look tonight. Pretty hard not to be impressed wouldn't it? My word. Yes. We spoke with Terry at half time and he certainly knows what he's in for. Especially after last year when at one stage they were 32 points clear and looked to be marching into the Grand Final. Smart has a couple of options on centre wing. One is Mark Rasciuto. LaRue looks in towards half forward. Sidney looking to finish full of running. McLeod was the target. Schwass is claimed by him. Koster is gang tackled. He goes to ground. And another ball up. Maybe the last one for the night. Justin the Crowe's attacking zone. Wren the dunkley. It's all over. It is all over for Sidney. Adelaide will march on. A fancy performance by the Adelaide Crows. And let's spare a thought for the man in the middle of your screen wearing the number one Guernsey for Sidney. Paul Ruse as the Adelaide Crows boys display their sportsmanship. Come up and congratulate him on a wonderful career. Must be an emotional time for him, Liam, Jason. You've both experienced it. Well I'm sure it would be and it's great to see a lot of the opposition players rushing to congratulate him on what's been a fantastic career. I think we've all been privileged to watch his career not just for his longevity and also quality but also for the manner in which he's conducted himself. I think Dipper in fact is down there with him. Dipper. Yeah thanks very much, Andrew. Well Paul, I'm disappointed in him, mate. But I'll greet you on just a fantastic career. Just a few words to you fans out there. Yeah look, I'm disappointed tonight that the guys gave 100 percent. Adelaide just a bit too skillful on the night. A bit too smart I think. But our guys really put in it. Even though they got a bit of a break we kept on coming back. I think that's been the story of our year. We've just had a real dip all year. Lost a couple of quality players. But I've certainly enjoyed myself, Dipper. And it's time to call it quits, mate. It's been fantastic, mate. Absolutely. Some great memories here obviously. Yeah look, I've had a great time in Sydney. Four years up here. It's been great for my career and I really enjoyed it. Fitzroy was fantastic. A lot of great memories, a lot of good friends. And it's time to move on. We've got the match ball. Congratulations, buddy. Well done. Yeah well done, Paul Rouse. Let's go to Curls. Yeah thanks very much, Andy. Well Nigel, a completely different attitude tonight as opposed to last week. Yeah it's like chalk and cheese. The guys really committed themselves early. And probably get paid the dividends coming up in the city. And beating them by 20 old points is a great effort to do. David Pippen once again has shown how versatile he is. Yeah he loves to fall back. He likes San Antonio and they had a good drill. But I thought at midfield with Roshudo and Wren, Freddie got his hands on the ball. Look he was jumping well and he gave a forward line something. And Matty Robber and Bomber Vardy, they did really well. Vardy with a superb game. Look he kept his feet straightened up and kicked six goals. So tonight's conditions are great effort. Well played, all the best. Thank you, Sandy. Yes thanks Curls, Adelaide pros, fans supporting their side. And Sydney fans saying thank you to the Sydney Swans. And especially thank you to Paul Ruse. The Crows delighted. They know they're into another preliminary final. They're not far away from another crack at a grand final. And Paul Ruse says farewell. Standing ovation. For a grand grand final. It's just only happened to you a couple of weeks ago. You don't feel like you're off the ground I reckon. I think you just like staying out there for a bit longer. Just about to say Leo, I'm a little bit choked in the throat at the moment because it's all too recent for me, only a couple of weeks ago and I certainly know what Paul's going through. And later through, through to another preliminary final. It all started with Jim and two McDonald's quarter pounders. And now it's here, McDonald's double quarter pounder with cheese with two beef patties and three slices of cheese. And finally McDonald's double quarter pounder with cheese as the official burger of the AFL. Every five minutes lots of people win Keno Spot 5, the easy to play instant money game. Well if you picked out a match winner here at the SCG tonight there's no doubt about it. And he owns the number 30 Guernsey for the Adelaide Crows. Peter Barty, here he is with curls. Thanks Anne. Well Peter, the conditions weren't good for a forward tonight but you just need to find the ball. Oh when we ran out it was absolutely pouring down and just had to run to the spot so I don't mind playing in the rain. But when you've got a good centre half forward like Matty Robben played tonight and he brings the ball down to the spot it makes it a lot easier for us. Little forwards. It was hard to pick your role tonight. One minute you're on the wing, next minute you're half forward. Were you fluctuating a bit? I did, I changed a few. I played a bit on the wing and then Malcolm put me up forward for a bit. So just to break it up a little bit instead of the same old. Your goal, your kicking for goal tonight was just so good with that wet ball. You had five straight shots for goal and you didn't miss one. Yeah I was pretty lucky I guess. As you said they all went through and I was pretty happy with that. Great performance, well played, enjoy yourself. Thanks mate. Back to you Sandy. Thank you curls, yes well done to Peter Barty. A couple of interesting results today. The Demon Juggernaut they've dubbed it, keeps on rolling, keeps rolling along. And Mr Danahar, as cool as you would expect a farmer from Ungari to be. Let's hear from him. That was the important thing. Our nerves were rock solid then when they had to be. You know I said to the players, you know we could have seen our season if we didn't regroup and keep at it. So from a coach's point of view that was probably the most pleasing thing we got out of the game. Yes and let's have a look at how it all unfolds Leah and I'm going to put you straight on the spot. And now we've got another week to go but I want winners here and we want them tonight on seven. I think the teams that are at a rest this weekend have to always start favourites. That week's break this time of year I think is a great advantage. So yeah the Bulldogs, I don't know how the Crows will be affected after playing on this wet ground tonight, who knows. But I think Bulldogs will certainly start favourites and as you say the Melbourne Juggernaut, well it keeps rolling on. But North Melbourne have been Premiership favourites for a couple of months now. They've got 10 straight they've won but that'll be a great game, both of them will be great games. Fantastic games. North Melbourne, Melbourne on the Friday night, then of course Saturday it's Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs. The Adelaide Crow is successful here tonight. We've certainly enjoyed bringing it to you at home. I hope you've enjoyed it from the SCG. For now, good night to you all.
