The first act tonight, Paul is a young lady whose ambition it is to join the army. However,
she wants to be an officer and I think we should throw a quick salute and introduce her,

uh nerves got in your way tonight right yes but what I can hear there to help you improve
you've got to really again look at the basis of singing and that's breathing control and exercises
because this will improve your voice as you get older and the more experience of course you get that helps
but just at the moment are you with a teacher?
uh no
you're not well it would be a good idea to find someone and to help you on those basic things
because the voice is there you've got a head start and you've got a good face and I'll let the other judges
there's a couple of other little things so I better let them say something but thank you for your performance
thank you very much okay can we talk about our one Lisa Nichols and Frank Delfoss now talks about Lisa
I enjoyed your performance you've got a bright and bouncy air about you it came over in a nice vivacious manner
and I see you want to be an army officer but if you do want to sing and take Kiri's advice
I think that there is a lot of potential there for you because I enjoyed it very much thank you

a singing army officer that would be rather nice wouldn't it and now I thought that you had a lovely face
and I thought you smile you see that was nice because you smiled and we all felt that you were enjoying it
and also your voice has a most unusual quality which reminded me a lot of a lady who had a big hit a few years ago
called Liv Mason whose voice had that sort of range down there and I think for 15 that's unusual
so I really think that what remains is to remember that Kiri's advice the breathing at times when you got into a certain pitch
let you down a little and I think I would take lessons because I think it would be well worth it
because you look good you've got confidence you have an unusual and very lovely quality in your voice

every once in a while a person comes up with a great idea 10 years ago I did
I decided we would give children their first haircut for free for lots of reasons but mainly because it's important that hair looks good at any age
and if you do something well chances are people will remember you and come back
this little girl, Benny, well big girl now, came to us for her first haircut 10 years ago and has been coming back to us ever since
look how nice she looks now her hair is well cared for and she knows how to do it herself which is really important
there's an old Chinese proverb if you give a man a fish you feed him for one day if you teach him how to fish you feed him for life
so not only will we cut your child's hair for free but our girls will guide them and show them how to care for it themselves
and we will give them a bottle of shampoo and conditioner and a beautiful brush so they will become accustomed to doing their own hair
and be able to do it themselves forever

I expected to, with your size, to have a much deeper voice
Yet you've got a tenor voice, which threw me for a moment
But I enjoyed your performance
I feel that perhaps you, the song for me, dragged a little
I felt I disagreed with the way you did the number
But certainly an interesting voice and a lot of potential, so keep at it

Yes, I have played in hotels and things like that
You are, so you do the odd singing job?

What about television? This is your first television
That's right
Right, well you've broken the ice, as I keep saying to other people
Nerves really took over tonight
You have got an interesting voice and I can see a lot of potential with it
But again, a lot of hard work
It comes back to control
Because the voice was wavering quite a lot
Your intonation was just out here and there
Now it's very important if you're going to sing anywhere
Especially in something like this
Your first words or your entry into a song
Make sure it's there, it's definite
And the ending, make always sure that that's the beginning and the ending of a song
What happens if you get lost?
Well, it's just luck of the game
But the entry is very important
And I didn't pick up the first word
That's just a little thing to watch
If you're not learning, I would find someone to help you
Because you do have the voice and the potential to do something with it
All right?
Well, I quite simply put that you have a unique sound
But it is an uncontrolled unique sound
Which is I think in a nutshell what the others were saying
And I think it's an interesting voice and a very unusual sound
And I hope that you will take time out perhaps to control it
Because I think if you did it would be very interesting
You're tall and you're a hell of a lot going for you
So I think it's worth making that effort with such an unusual, unique sound that you have there
So do that and good luck for the future

I want to tell you a little story about this if I can take just a couple of seconds
The dance was originally choreographed by David L. Sheen, who was responsible for bringing Robert's dad over to Australia
And of course those of you who know the ballet world will certainly look with some awe upon the name of Robert Pommier
Who danced with great distinction in this country
He's now, of course, over the past couple of years you've seen the work of his choreography
