Sure, fine. I'll be there. You got bright and early. Good morning sweetheart. There's a business call? No, just something I had to take care of. Victoria here? No, why? Because I'd like to find out what she thought about last night. I think she'd be very happy to find out that I feel a little differently and a little better about her boyfriend Brian. I must say. Hi daddy. Hi my sweetheart. Hi, good morning. I'm glad you came down early. I wanted to talk to you before you went off to school. By the way, Victoria, I'm going to the office early today. If you'd like I can give you a lift to school. That'd be great if it's not too much trouble. No, no trouble at all. Let me just run upstairs and I'll get changed. I'll be right back. Thanks Aushia, I really appreciate it. Good morning, Lynn. Hello Lauren. Is your boss in yet? Yes, but he's on the phone. Okay. Oh wait. He's got a very busy morning, Lauren. Oh, I'm sure he'll fit a few minutes in for me. I brought him his favorite cinnamon rolls. Other than his mother's of course. Oh, did you bake them yourself? No, Lynn. I don't bake my own bread, clean my own house or make my own clothes. But you know, Paul and I still manage to enjoy every minute of our time together. Somebody mention my name? Yes, is this Detroit information? Do you also have numbers for the suburbs? Great. I want a number for Grosse Pointe Medical Center and Hospital. Right. Thank you very much. Perfect. It's been a long time. Thank you. Music One thing I love to cook is my very own fresh from the lake, not from the freezer, pan fried bass. And the one thing I need to clean up is palm olive. Because frying up those bread crumbs, pepper and onions can make a real mess of my pan. But palm olive takes care of all that. And you know it softens hands while you do dishes. So I can do what I like best. Cooking, not cleaning. Palm olive. You cook, we'll clean. Music Want to change your old size for a NutriSize? Call your NutriSystem Center. They're so good. Probably not as good as your mother's. You said that. I do believe that honesty is the best policy. Well, there's some things best left unsaid. These are so good. It's almost sinful. You want to know something? I think I like them better than my mother's. Really? Yeah, don't call me the one tonight. You realize if I quote you I'll be run out of town. And your mother and Lynn will team up with the tar and feathers. How's that going anyway? What? Your mother's campaign to marry you off to Lynn. Lauren. You have to know what's going on. All right. She told me she's been praying. Great. Great. Now she's got God on her side. Lauren, would you stop? Tell me, how did my mother become our prime topic for conversation this morning? Want to change the subject? Oh, golly, I'd love to. Consider it changed. Just like that, huh? Yeah, really. I have a client coming. How soon? Well, too soon. Darn. How about a rain check? You got it. Okay. I should be getting back to work anyway. Did I tell you about my visitor the other night? What visitor? I didn't tell you? I don't think so. Oh, I see. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I don't think so. Oh, it's fascinating. Sheila came to see me. Yes, I'm calling to confirm that you have a Dr. Douglas Underwood there on staff at Grosse Pointe. May I know why you're asking? I'm a former patient. It's very important that I speak to the doctor. Is this a medical situation? Oh, yes, definitely. Dr. Underwood is on staff here. He's very busy. All right. Well, thank you. Thank you. Yes, I'd like to make a reservation on your next flight out to Detroit. Okay. So, you're going to be staying at Grosse Pointe tonight? Yes. I'll see you there. Okay. I'll see you there. Okay. I'll see you there. Okay. I'll see you there. Okay. Okay. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Out to Detroit? Mm-hmm. It's a quick business meeting. I want your first available flight back home as well. Oh, that would be great. My name? Susan. Susan Smith. No, no. I'll be paying cash. I'll pick my ticket up at the window at the airport. Great. Thank you. Well, good morning. Good morning, honey. What do you got going today? What is it you're seeing, oh, small one, so fair? What visions entrench you? What do you have there? It's a musical dream screen. That's easy to see. It moves and it sparkles. What joy that must be. And yes, it plays music to drift you to dreams. Ventolin DM for your cough. Uh-uh. All I took was Comtrax. She'd have had to take each of these just to get all the relief that's in two Comtrax. Comtrax does it all. Also, look for new non-drowsy Comtrax. When things get tough, remember, shake and bake makes it easy to treat your family to plump, juicy pork chops without frying. Why fry? Shake and bake. Where do your favorite raisins come from? These? Yeah, those. Um, I think they come from California. I've heard you like sun-made raisins as much as you like boys. Who told you that? He's living out every man's fantasy. How can this be happening? He's got everything going for him. I'm falling in love with you. But will the woman from his past come back to destroy it all? Find out when Notch Landing returns Thursday. Martin Short joins the premiere of the Carol Burnett Show Friday. My God, Nicky. What is it gonna take to get through to you what the booze and the pills are doing to your life? You're not in control anymore. They are. Jack, I'm sorry. I know you're... Oh, no, no. Don't give me any more apologies. I don't want to hear them. If you were sorry, you'd check yourself back into rehab and stick it out instead of wasting your life. God, Nicky. This is the better part of an evening you can't even remember. Doesn't that scare you? It frightens the hell out of me, I'll tell you that. I feel awful. I feel terrible humiliating you like this. Nicky, that is the least of my worries. I gotta go to work. So, is she looking to see you? What does she want? Well, that's the million-dollar question. Oh. She must have had some excuse. Ostensibly, she came by to bring me a gift. You know, a little thank you for having her and Scott over for dinner last week. But you think she had another reason? Well, the woman and I do not like each other. In fact, we seem to be playing a little game at who can be more civil. All right, so why do you think she really came by? She comes by the same day I went to go see her mother. You mean the visit Scott arranged? The first time I have seen this woman in months and Sheila shows up with a gift. Fascinating coincidence. Isn't it? She was very curious about my reaction to her mother and how I felt the woman was doing. So what did you tell her? That I thought it wouldn't be long before her mother uttered her first word. Well, Sheila must have been pleased to hear that. I'm not so sure. I'm not at all certain that's how Sheila felt. Well, what are you saying? I wish I knew. I don't understand it. And as bizarre as it sounds, Paul, I didn't get the feeling that Sheila was thrilled with her mother's progress. Scott, I hope you're not still angry with me about the argument that we had over Lauren visiting my mom and mom's therapist. Sheila, you said you were stressed out. I know how that goes. Why don't we just forget about it, okay? Is your breakfast all right? You're not eating very much. Breakfast is fine. I'm just not very hungry. I'm sorry. Anything I can do? No, not really. Well, last night you told me you had a really busy schedule today. I do. I got my usual patient load, and then I got to spend the afternoon in the lab closing it down. You're closing the lab today? I've got no choice. Research grant is over. No more money to cover the costs. Got to be out of there by the first of the month. Will you try to disassemble everything today, then? As much as I can. I'm sorry. I need to take care of something even before I get to the hospital. At any rate, I think I'll be working late, so I'm sure I won't be home for dinner. I have a really busy day, too. I've got a lot of things to take care of. I'm going to take the baby with me. Great. I better get going. Hey, you. Hey, you. You're going to have a good day with your mom today, huh? I love you, Scotty. Okay. Okay, try and have a good day. I will. Say bye-bye. Come on, we've got to get you ready. You're going to stay over at Luffy's today, okay? She's going to watch you. I'm so glad, Lauren. There's a few left. I'm sure Paul wouldn't mind if you'd like one. Of course you'd have to ask nicely. Actually, I've lost my appetite. That's too bad. Well, I'm off. Mrs. Williams. Fancy meeting you here. Well, I'm surprised to see you out and about so early, Lauren. You know what they say. The early bird catches the worm. Toodle-oo, ladies. Lynn, I just can't get over it. What is it, Mrs. Williams? Every time I come over to see my son, she comes walking out of his office. Doesn't she realize how obvious she is? Well, now, Lauren and Paul were married once, and they're still very good friends. Does that mean you're giving up? I'm not sure what you mean. Lynn, may I say something to you? Of course. What is it, Mrs. Williams? Do you want my son or don't you? Because you certainly aren't acting as if you do. Did you enjoy having Ryan for dinner last night? Oh, yeah. It was really nice of you to invite him. You weren't upset for any reason that I asked him to come by? Why would I be upset? Well, I thought perhaps you might have preferred it if you had known in advance. It was fine, Dad. You know me. I love surprises. You know, speaking of surprises, I was rather surprised myself last night. What do you mean? Well, I was very impressed with your friend. I think he's a good head on his shoulders. I think he's very bright. Now, that does not mean that I'm encouraging a more serious relationship between the two of you. I think you're too young. You're 16 years old. And I honestly think you have plenty of time before you become more exclusively in love with someone you don't know I'm talking about. Yeah, I think so. Victoria, I'm ready when you are. I'm all set. What do you mean? You're never going to have breakfast with us? Oh, honey, I really need to get to the office. I'll pick something up along the way. Have a good day. Well, you too. I'll see you tonight, Dad. What is this? You're both leaving me. We'll be back. Well. See you later. Have a nice day. You too. Bye-bye. Are you kidding me? I'll meet you inside. Okay. So did she give you the old pep talk? If you work hard enough and use your ingenuity, you can make anything happen? That's the one, boss. Way to go, Mom. I'm so glad I can spend some time with you. Who is it? Lauren, it's me, Scott. Scott, hi. Come on in. Thank you. Hey, Dylan. I just made some fresh coffee. Would you like some? No, but thanks. I just wanted to stop by and see how you're doing. Oh, well. I'm good. And how's Dylan doing? Great. I called your office and they said you're working at home today. Well, I've been doing that a lot lately. You know, he's just growing so fast and doing new things every day. I don't want to miss anything. You know, young man, you're a very special little guy. No wonder Mommy has a hard time tearing herself away from you. You know, this is really quite a coincidence that you'd stop by now. Why is that? Because I was just about to call you. So, Mrs. Newman, when you phoned this morning and asked to see me, you didn't say what it was about. Does this have something to do with Jebeau? Am I part-time job here? No, Ryan, it has nothing to do with Jebeau or your job. This is personal. Very much so. I'm not sure I understand. I want to talk to you about the other night, what happened between you and Victoria. Listen, before we get into this, I think you should know, Victoria told me she can fight in you about... Her first sexual experience. She said she was a little freaked out about the whole thing. A little freaked out? Ryan, she was more than a little freaked out. She was very upset, and she still is. Which came as a complete surprise to me last night when she told me how she really felt. I mean, I had no idea she was the least bit upset when I dropped her off at the apartment. Yeah, she was a little depressed earlier in the evening about her family, her parents, and I just tried to take her mind off all that. What? By having sex with her? Is that how you thought you could take her mind off of it, Ryan? By taking advantage of an underage 16-year-old girl who is very distraught and very vulnerable. Mrs. Newman, I swear to you, I never once felt that I took advantage of her. I care for her a lot. She was lonely. And yes, one thing led to another, but I never forced myself on her. I wouldn't do that. Not ever. Paramount Pictures presents a film so special we couldn't wait until Christmas. This year, while you're putting away the pumpkin, start putting up the tree. The giant picked only the mushrooms plump enough to make pasta perfect, juicy enough to make spaghetti sumptuous, and salads scrumptious. Soon, people added the giant's mushrooms to chicken, burgers, stew, gravy, and people ate happily ever after. Because green giant mushrooms give everything a lift. Ho, ho, ho. Green giant. And I still love sweet things, like sun-sweet pitted prunes. So you see, nothing's changed. Except my cookie jar. Mom, I got a client coming in a few minutes, so this is going to have to be brief. It will be. I have only one thing to say. A question, actually. Why? Why what? Why is it that every time I come to see you, that Lauren Fenmore is walking out of this office? So you ran into her, did you? She wants a father for her child. That's why she's here so often. Mom, come on. Son, son, please. Please don't let that woman get too close to you. She'll never make you happy any more than she did the first time you were married to her. Look, I admit, Lauren and I had our problems when we were married, but we had a lot of good times, too. But you did divorce her, did you not? Is that all? Did you hear what I said? Loud and clear. Now, look, I gotta get some of this paperwork done before my next client arrives. So if you don't mind... All right, I'm going. But make no mistake about it. The thought of you remarrying that woman just... Well, I don't like it. Not one bit. I love you. So, Lauren, you haven't said. Why were you just about to call me? Is everything okay, though? Why do you ask? Did you know your wife stopped by to see me? No. When? The other night. Right after I saw her mother. Did you two argue? No. Not at all. She was very nice, very nice. She was very nice, very conciliatory. In fact, she brought a little thank you gift over for dinner last week. I did get the feeling that she was on a fishing expedition. For what? I don't know. What did she ask? She wanted to know how I thought her mother was doing. I think she's doing great, seeing that she's already able to repeat syllables. She is. When did this happen? Sheila didn't tell you? No. No, she didn't mention it at all. Oh, Scott. You know, there are so many questions that I could ask. Yeah, well, there's a lot of questions rolling around in my mind, too, Lauren, right now. Look, I am not going to beat around the bush with this. I want to talk to you about your son. Now, I'm going to ask you something, and I would really appreciate it if you just give me an honest, straightforward answer. Your baby, is he my son? I'm really amazed that you would ask me this. I know you've already seen Paul. Yeah, well, I wasn't satisfied with the answer I got from Paul. Well, at the risk of sounding egotistical, isn't this wishful thinking? No, I want the truth, Lauren. Come here. So why don't you tell me, is this baby mine? That's all I'm asking, a simple yes or no. Susan Smith. I don't know anyone by that name. She's quite insistent about seeing you, Doctor. All right, send her in. Do I know you, Miss... Sheila? I'm sorry, I didn't want to use my own name. I thought you would appreciate that, Douglas. What are you doing here? Oh, no hellos? No amenities after all these years? You haven't answered my question. I remember a time when you needed me, Doug. I'm here because now you're going to be my son. Doug? I'm here because now I need you. Finally, after nearly a century, we came up with a formula with more pain relievers than Bengay. And it's on its way to stores right now from... Bengay. You're asking me for funding, lab facilities, total endorsement by my hospital on this project, right? It's a wonderful project. And we're making some real progress. It's your husband's project? Yes. He's an incredible research man, Doug, and a wonderful, wonderful doctor. He'd be an asset to any hospital staff. I have no doubt about that, Sheila, but... Doug! I know that you're a man with an incredible amount of influence here. You can make things happen if you want to. You're asking for an awful lot, Sheila. Look, I have never asked you for a thing. But this is extremely important to me. For me, this is a matter of survival. What the hell have you gotten yourself into? I have never told anyone about what happened all those years ago between us. And I won't. Only now I need something in return from you. Otherwise... You made your point, Sheila. I want to think about this. I'll get back to you. No, I want an answer now. I am not leaving here without knowing I need this from you, Doug. I promise. If you help me with this, I'll never bother you again. Were you wearing a condom, Ryan? Yes, ma'am. You'd better believe it. That could mean you were preparing to do this. I won't follow you. Yes, you do. Look, Mrs. Newman, if you're asking me if I always carry condoms, I do. I mean, in this day and age, a guy would be crazy not to. So you do have frequent sexual encounters. I didn't say that. You all but said it. I'm prepared, okay? Like a good little boy scout. There's a lot of aggressive women out there. You never know. Look, I don't want you to misunderstand me. I'm not saying that you shouldn't have practiced birth control. I'm glad you did for Victoria's sake. But what I am saying is that you should have practiced a little more restraint. I understand that, and I realize that now, and I'm sorry. Don't apologize to me. I'm not the one who's hurting. Victoria is. God only knows what would happen if her father found out. I need to talk. What is it? You seem upset. How could you allow this to happen? Allow what to happen? I'm totally in the dark. I don't know what we're talking about. I'm talking about your wife. What about Nikki? Yes, you. Haven't seen this, have you? What the hell is your wife doing out last night, cavorting in a place like this? Where were you? Look, Victor, I think you're making altogether too much of this. What do you mean, I'm making altogether too much out of this? This is your wife. This is the mother of my children, for heaven's sake. What the hell do you think is going to happen when they go to school? Here, the mother is plastered all over the morning papers, deep in the throats of her striptease. She's going to be held up to ridicule, for heaven's sake. Victor, I realize you're upset. It was just one of those things. What the hell do you mean it was just one of those things? We went out for an evening of dinner and dancing. The band leader recognized Nikki from her old bayou days. He introduced her to the audience. Like a good sport, she stood up. The band started playing her old theme song, and she got carried away. And you just set the impending of this to happen? I wasn't in the room when this started. I could not have stopped this. What's happening in your marriage? Is something wrong in your marriage? I mean, is that the reason for this bizarre behavior of hers lately? I will say this again. I think you're making too much out of this. Victor, the band leader introduced her in front of an audience. She got caught up in the adulation and the applause. What do you expect Nicholas and Victoria to say to their friends? This is their mother we are talking about, Jack. Something ain't right in your relationship with her. I know it isn't, and I'm damn well gonna find out, because I don't want this to ever happen again. Your sense of smell is about 10,000 times more sensitive than your sense of taste. Mrs. Abbott, I think you should really look at it right now. Miguel, I have a lot on my mind right now. I can see that. I think you should be forewarned though. Do you mean forewarned? Oh no. Oh dear God, no. It's bad enough that Nikki made this public spectacle of herself, but why didn't you stop this? I mean, why didn't you pay the photographer $100, $500 to keep this out of the pool? If I had known a photographer was there, I'd have broken his camera with my bare hands. Still, Victor, this is not the end of the world. If you really think about it, it's a fairly harmless incident. Your view of a harmless incident obviously differs enormously from mine, alright? Especially since I don't know what to expect from your wife anymore. Let me tell you something. I don't give a damn what she does. As long as it doesn't adversely affect my children. Because if it does, I become very nasty. Your husband, he doesn't know what happened the other night between Victoria and me. No. Not yet. Not yet. Victor's finding out about this depends on Victoria. What she does or doesn't want her father to know. Mrs. Newman, obviously the last thing we want or need is for Mr. Newman to find out about this. We, Ryan? Don't you mean you? It wouldn't be good for anybody. Look, Victor isn't going to hear anything from me. If you promise me this is not going to be a frequent occurrence. Because if it is, and if I find out it is, given Victoria's age I'll have no choice but to tell her father what his daughter's been doing. I understand. And thank you, Mrs. Newman. I mean, if there's anything I can do to make this up to you... To me? Ryan, haven't you been listening to me? It's Victoria's feelings you should be thinking of right now. She's a young girl. This is her first sexual experience. Something she'll always remember. Something that should have been warm and tender. But it wasn't. You know the sad thing about this? That there's nothing you can do to make this up to her. Not now. Not ever. Why do you keep pressing the issue? What makes you think that my child is yours? Lauren, he was conceived while we were still married. There was an affair. And you know it. I'm not proud of it. But you know that's what happened. So why doesn't Paul marry you? What's his hangup? Unless... Phone rings. Hello? Yes, Audrey? You need that stuff now? Yeah, I have it. It's in the bedroom. I'm going to put you on hold. I'll be right back. Go ahead. Take him. I'll watch him. Thanks. Come on, big man. There you go. Okay. Big boy, huh? Yeah, you're a big boy. Okay, big boy. Yeah. Shh. Okay. There we go. There we go. All right, Bill. Hold tight. Hold tight. It's going to hurt a little bit. Good boy. Good boy, Bill. Yeah. Good boy. Good boy. Okay. We're almost through. Okay. Hold tight. We're almost through. Okay. Good boy. Oh, what a good boy you are. I'm sorry, little guy. I don't want to hurt you. I got to find out the truth here. One way or another, I'm going to find out who your daddy is. Paul, they're me. Yeah. Yeah. Here's a good look now on the satellite picture of the intense ocean storm that we've been talking about for a couple of days. It is now moving westward. That's the opposite of usual. It is moving to the west. It has spread through the Boston area with high winds and even some rain right now. The highest winds though are on Cape Cod. Now high tide this afternoon is looking like this. Between four and five o'clock a coastal flood warning is in effect for the entire coastline. They are trying to evacuate residents of many of the coastal communities now including Revere and including East Ham. Now in East Ham some of the residents are refusing to leave and we certainly urge you if you live in a low-lying spot to get in away from the water. We're looking at three to four feet above the normal high tide at high tides. And also we have three high tides coming at least which will be well above normal. First one coming up late this afternoon. In any case we'll update you every half hour right here. Stay tuned for all the latest weather advisories here on Channel 7. Now back to our regular programming. This has been a News 7 Weather Advisory. Carl Perkins. Life with cancer on entertainment tonight. We now join the CBS network already in progress. Of course it is. You just hold me for a second. Sometimes I feel like I am the cause of all this pain and if somehow if I just... Logan stop it. Stop it. Stop trying to second guess yourself here. Lord knows I could do that but that wouldn't do anyone any damn good now would it? Listen we have to be strong to get through this now. It's gonna be a lot more difficult than we hoped. Is there something you're not telling me? Dad said something to me before I left that shocked the hell out of me. What? That you are his wife and you're going to stay his wife. He's not gonna give you this divorce. Not now not ever. Oh my God. I have never seen dad as committed to anything in his life as he is to holding on to this marriage. So what are we going to do? The only thing we can do Logan. You have to file for divorce. How can I turn my back on Clark now Macy after all he has shown me? If I turn my back on him now I am going to be miserable and second guessing myself for the rest of my life. For the rest of my life Macy. Please mother just give me a few days before you tell Clark. Just a few days. What difference is a few days going to make? Do it for me mother. Do it for your son. That's why I am giving Clark every chance for my son. I want my son to have his father. A father is more than just a man you conceive a child with mother. He is someone you can count on. I really believe Clark can become that kind of father Macy. I wish you had been in the Mars class with me. You would have seen it. He was the most interested husband there. But is he sincere? He seemed to be. Oh Macy look I mean I was a little suspicious myself. Even I thought he was a little too good to be true. But honestly darling he does appear to really care about this baby. And you can live with that? You can live with a man who appears to care, who seems sincere mother, but a man you can never really be sure of. Clark obviously wants to get back with you mother. He has no money. He has no job. He is completely burnt out. This man is coming back for one reason. To sponge off you. To bleed the company that you care so much about for everything he can. I've got to take him at his word Macy. What else can I do? I've got to believe that he is really trying to straighten out his life. I believe it. He is a changed man in many ways Macy. A lot of things could account for that mother. How do we even know that he's seeing a psychiatrist? Macy just a few months ago this was a man who was demanding that I end my pregnancy. He wanted me to get rid of this baby and now he couldn't be a more concerned father. I mean it's obvious isn't it that this Dr. Hayes has been helping him see the light. Or maybe it's seeing the hard cold world outside your door that makes Clark want back in so badly he'll say or do anything. What about his womanizing mother? Do you really believe that Clark will ever give that up? I should file for divorce. You've got to. When? Now Brooke is the only way. Ridge I want to do everything I possibly can to keep this amicable. Look the way dad was talking I don't see how that can happen. Hello Brooke. Yes Eric. I'd like you to come up to my office. I'll be right there. Do you know where Ridge is? He's here. All right bring him along. Sure. He wants to see us. Why? He didn't say. Ridge maybe you did get through to him after all. It's possible I don't know if that's realistic. Well there's a chance that he could have changed his mind about all of this. I suppose. Hello. Where's your father? He stepped out I guess. He wanted to talk to us. He wanted to talk to me as well. Mother what's going on here? I don't know. What did he say when he called you? He simply asked me to come down to the office. How did he sound? Perfectly fine. Well that's how he sounded to me too. Ridge something's happening. But the fact that he's had mother here. Do you dare think we get our hopes up? Hi what's going on? Oh well hi honey your father wanted to speak to the three of us. Make that the four of us. You too? Yeah he just called me about five minutes ago told me to come up. If he were right about this why would he have Thorne? Right about what? I don't know. Do you want to tell me what's going on? I mean it mother. Is Clarks womanizing something you can deal with? Can you go through that all over again? I would like to believe I won't have to miss. I'd like to believe he's changed. No. I do believe it. Fine. Then do one thing for me. Please don't make any commitments with Clark for at least a few days. Why? I still don't understand what is going to happen in that time. You must have some idea mother. You have got to know what you're getting into. Just three days mother. Just give me three days. Give your son three days. All right. Three days Macy. Three days and no more. Do you want to tell me what you're talking about? Good. You're all here. Sorry to keep you waiting. Well I suppose you can all guess why I've asked you to come here. I think our new fabric is going to change the face of the entire industry. Well this is really exciting. Yes it is. I can't wait to start working with it. You want to talk to her about that? We'll do. You know, it's too bad that Felicia won't tell us what's going on over at Forrester. I hear there is something big cooking there. You know what it is? Oh, how nice. Not exactly on the top of their need-to-know list, you know. The word is that they're doing something that no other LA design firm has ever done before. Really? Well, come on, Saul, you're the king of the scroungers. Check it out, huh? We'll do. New, how are you holding up, Sally? I'm doing all right, Saul. It's looking more and more like it's going to be another go-around with Garrison. Look that way, old friend. I'm going to give him an answer in about three days. Why three days? Well, I want to give it some thought, look before I leave. Now you're going to look. Well, I got to make sure I'm doing the right thing for two people now. Make sure I'm doing the right thing for both of us. Ridge, I don't mean to discount your contribution. I know you were very involved in the creation of this fabric. Now, I think you're all very much aware of this agreement we've made with the Italian mill. They will be producing this fabric in secrecy, exclusively for us. What about someone copying us, Eric? Oh, Brooke, you hit on a formula that's not easily copied. Don't underestimate your talent. Still, that possibility makes this first collection even more crucial. Yes. It'll open up a whole new dimension to our business and to our reputation. We are now fabric innovators. That's why it's so important that Brooke continue her work in the lab on wool and Lycra blendings. Are you already on to the next project? Yes, Stephanie. I've been working on it for a while now. Well, that's wonderful. Brooke has a lot of passion for this work. She's very talented. So, Eric, where is the sample yardage? I'd be very excited to see it. Well, it's right here. I'm going to keep it in this office under lock and key. Here we are. Wow. It's really quite something to see the finished product. Well, go ahead. I know you're dying to. Try to make it wrinkle. That's right. What is your mother's name? Sally Spectra Garrison. I see. I get the feeling that you do know Clark, that he is a patient of yours. Well, you're free to assume whatever you like. Doctor, it is very important that I know where Clark's head is at. I can't disclose information about my patients. I just need to know a few things that could have an incredible impact on my mother's life. You see, I have known Clark for a very long time. And I have every reason to believe that he is a womanizer, a manipulator, a man after my mother's money. But Clark swears that he has changed. He says that he loves my mother and that he wants to be a good father to their child. And you don't believe him? I have got to know whether or not Clark is telling my mother the truth. Or whether he is the same old womanizer. And you are the one person who can answer that. Please, Doctor, tell me if I'm right about Clark. Look, I understand your situation and I empathize with you. But I just can't give you the information that you're looking for right now. Doctor, you could very possibly save my mother from making a mistake that would devastate her for the rest of her life. Think of that the next time Clark lies down on that couch. I don't have a lot of time, all right? But I will find out one way or the other. I think it's very important that we all address ourselves to what the next steps should be. I've decided that it would be a mistake for us to rush this into the spring showing, which is only a scant two weeks away. We're much wiser now that we have this advantage to hold off and present the fabric in the most dramatic way possible. You don't want to put it in this showing? It doesn't make sense. I mean, spring is shaping up so well that it would make a terrific addition. Yes, well, that's exactly my point, Rich. I don't want it buried in the spring showing as just some sort of an addition. I've decided we're going to hold off and we will present it in every phase of our summer line. In a special showing. That way we can show it off to its best advantage. That is brilliant planning. Rich, I think you'll see that I'm right. And we won't present the summer line until it's completely ready. I see no reason for us to follow some arbitrary calendar. This showing will be important enough to bring the world fashion press to Los Angeles no matter when we do it. Eric, this is really incredible. I'm thrilled. Now I'll have some time to run some tests on the new garments. Dad, I do see your point. This will make a real impact and spring is ready as is. Yes, it is. Thanks in good part to your excellent designs. Now I want us all to focus in on this special showing as we never have before. Stephanie, your input will be very important to all of us. I want you to start thinking about how you feel this fabric will best be received. Who you will target as customers. Also start working on a list of the world's press to be invited. Rich, your new designs will be more important than ever. This fabric is a new fabric for all ages and shapes, but I think a new, fresh approach is very important here. Brooke, you keep up your work in the lab. Any variation in this fabric, I want to be told about it immediately. And Thorn, I'm counting on you to keep us in touch with these mills. I want them ready to go into production as soon as we are. I'll be working on my sketches with the utmost care. Hopefully I'll have some samples in just a few days. Now, each of you is very important to our success. This is our thrust. We will not let anything stand in our way. Personal or otherwise. Thorn, who is it you're in touch with in the mills? Alberto Steffens. Alright, I want you to talk to him every day. Uncle Ben's rice in an instant isn't your typical time-saving rice. It's light, moist, and full of flavor. A powerful nor'easter has swept down on the New England area causing very high winds and high tides. There has been a lot of erosion and we're looking to the high tides at about 4, 4.30 this afternoon to see what else may be coming. Let's go to Mike Lawrence now who is standing by live in Shatam. Mike? Margie, good afternoon. It's getting a little interesting out here in Shatam. We're located directly across the street from the Coast Guard station. What you see behind me is open ocean. It should be protected by a break but that break was eroded away about four years ago in another storm. Now open ocean is hitting Shatam and many of the areas around here. We're told by the Coast Guard that another break has taken place overnight to protect a piece of sand. As a result, there is open ocean hitting additional parts of the Shatam coastline. The winds are expected to go to Hurricane Forest and quite frankly they may be getting very close to that now. We are having trouble standing up at some points as the gusts reach their peak. There have been only a few evacuations so far on Cape Cod. Police in most of the towns are telling us at this point that evacuation is voluntary. Shatam has indicated voluntary evacuation as has Easton and we're told that the town of Situit has instituted voluntary evacuation of low-lying areas as well and has opened Situit High School for evacuees who want some safer, higher shelter. It is getting worse here. There's no question from an hour ago. The winds have picked up and as you can see it's getting a bit difficult to stand still. Rain is not so bad at this point although the waves are very rough and the winds are very high. Commonwealth Electric reports no significant electrical outages yet but if this wind continues to pick up as it has so far, outages do lie in the next few hours of our future. For now, more on the Boston area and the storm that's generating all of this. Let's go to Harvey Leonard in the newsroom. Harvey? Okay, thank you very much Mike for that report. Satellite imagery, this is the unusual part of this powerful ocean storm. Weather doesn't always move from west to east. As you can see here it's moving from east to west bringing the clouds ashore and of course the wind and wave action is the main part of this. Also we're starting to see some rain bands start to move in as well but that will not be the big part of the storm. The wind and the wave and the action on the coast is the main part of the storm and because of that the most critical time period is the next high tide. As you can see it's between 4 and 515 all along our coastline as these northeasterly winds continue. Storm warnings are up and that means winds could gust to almost hurricane force all along the coastline most especially down around the Cape and the islands and of course Chatham where Mike Lawrence was located. Now high wind warnings are also in effect for the interior as well so there's something to be concerned with there. But again lots of beach erosion, no question about that and at the time of high tide a lot of water will be coming over the seawalls causing flooding in low lying coastal communities. Now because of that the MDC has issued an advisory as well. We want to show you that on the screen. And flooding is anticipated for the evening commute along the coastal roadways and commuters who normally travel Morrissey Boulevard, Quincy Shore Drive, Lynn Shore Drive, Winthrop Shore Drive, Nahant Beach Parkway, Revere Beach Boulevard, Hull Shore Drive and Nantasket Avenue would be advised to plan or seek alternate routes. Again the evening commute there will be flooding along low lying coastal areas and of course we'll be right here all afternoon to keep you posted. Let's go back to Margie. Alright thanks Harvey and we have some emergency numbers to pass along to you now in terms of power. This is from Commonwealth Electric, Cape Cod and Southeast Massachusetts. The cough and congestion was so bad he couldn't even sleep. What he really needed was Vic's Vaporub. Once I rubbed the Vaporub on his neck and chest, the penetrating vapors relieved his coughing and eased his nasal congestion. By the next day, he was back in the game. Vic's Vaporub. Breathe the vapors, breathe the relief. For you, Vicki, I'll make the time. I can't wait to see some of the artwork you've done for DeWitt. And I am eager to hear what you think. I've been away from the drawing board too long. I'm sure you haven't lost the talent. Call me as soon as you get to Oakdale. Are you sure? I don't want to cut into your time at home. It's no problem. This is where I work. I've been at it all day. Okay, thanks. I'll call you later. Bye. Bye-bye. Dana! How was beauty school? It was great. I'm graduating next week. Terrific. Hopefully you'll be resting up for the big event in December, huh? Well, I plan to. Listen, thanks for hiring the security guard. I slept a lot better last night knowing he was out here. Hi! How was school? We're going to be attending her graduation next week. Terrific! Dana, that's great! Oh, honey, Vicki Harper's stopping by. She's going to show me some of the artwork she's done. We're going to talk about some future projects. Vicki Harper's coming here? Dana, I know how much she upset you the last time. Yeah, I mean, only because she said she heard about the explosion in your car from me, which wasn't true. And because she could be the woman in the white robe who I keep seeing. Well, I still don't want to believe that she could be part of Arthur's sadistic plan. Dana, we were about to have some soup. Would you care to join us? No, I already had lunch with a friend from school. I'll see you guys later. Goodbye. I think that girl's going to be very relieved when that baby comes and she's able to move out and have a life of her own. You believe that we're going to have a baby of our own, huh? It's going to be a bold baby. It'll bring us even closer together. Excuse me? Evan Walsh is here to see you. Evan? Well, send him out. Did you have an appointment with him? No. Hello, Daryl. Hi, Evan. Mr. Crawford. Please, call me Franny. I will go check on lunch and be back. All right. What can I do for you, Evan? Well, my sister told me about what really happened in the south of France when you and Connor met. I came by here to thank you. It hasn't been easy for me to learn about my father, but I'm grateful for the way you try to help Connor through it. And, of course, for not telling anybody else. I was just doing the best I could, Evan. May I ask if your wife knows anything about it? No, no. Franny doesn't know, and I'd rather keep it that way. Tess, I'm so glad you could come by. Well, I got your message on campus. I came right by after classes. No, please. Sit down. Hello. So, how are you enjoying college? Oh, I really love it. You know, I still feel so lucky to be there. Plus, living with Aunt Barbara, it's great. Now, I assume you know your aunt plans to go to the Dominican Republic to secure her divorce from your uncle. Yes. I feel really sorry things went so wrong for them. Tess, I don't want you to think that I'm prying, and I'll keep whatever you say confidential. Do you know why your uncle left so suddenly and why he's never returned to see his daughter? No, I can't imagine why. Well, I want this divorce to be as easy and painless as possible for Barbara, and that's why I'm going with her down to the Dominican Republic. Yeah, and Barbara told me that you were flying her down in your own private jet. Mm-hmm, that's true. But now she feels like she should take Jennifer with her, and I think that's just an unnecessary burden for her. I want her to enjoy her stay, you know, have a little fun. Yeah, that's exactly what she needs. Well, I would like you to help me convince her that she should leave Jennifer here with you and Mrs. Myers. And in order to do that, you have to promise to help with Jennifer as much as possible. Oh, sure, I will. You know, I have play rehearsals most nights. But you only have a very small role, so surely you can afford to help out as much as possible, seeing how much she's done for you. And I would consider it a very special favor. Okay. I'll start working on Aunt Barbara right away. I appreciate it. And I want to give you this. Oh, Gavin, I can't accept this. Well, I know... You've done so much for me already. I know how expensive college can be. I just wanted to give you a little gift to help you out. It's just between us. Okay, well, I don't know what to say, but thanks again. And I'll try real hard to convince Aunt Barbara to leave Jenny Luna down. Well, I know how convincing you can be, so I'm sure you'll succeed. I'm sure I will, too. Thank you for coming by, Tess. Thanks again. That young lady is going to be very useful to me one of these days. Here's the information you wanted on DeWitt. I couldn't give you everything because some of the figures are highly confidential. But this should show you the kind of job Walsh has done for DeWitt and prove that we can do it for you. Yes, Sharon. Send her in. Vicki! It is so good to see you. Hello. I thought of calling Dower right away, but since he's so hostile, I thought it best that I talk to Detective Views since they're so close. Who discovered this vandalism? I did. What were you doing there anyway, Arthur? That's a strange question. I visit Carolyn's grave whenever I'm home. I was there yesterday morning, and that's when I saw that the side was all torn up and there was a message scrawled in the dirt. When I composed myself, I went to the cemetery office and insisted that they take pictures. What exactly did this message say, Arthur? Why don't you see for yourself? Find my journal, and you will know my murdering. Announcing new preference by L'Oreal. It conditions like crazy, and the color just shines. This morning when I was showering over at Lila's, I discovered a lump in my right breast. Dick. How'd it go? Well, thank you very much for inviting me to join you for lunch, but I never imagined we'd be dining alfresco. I married a man who loves the fresh air, Daddy. I thought maybe you could use some company with Kim away in Europe. I called Paris today. She was, of course, rushing out to some meeting with some designer. Then she was having lunch with Benjamin Reynolds. I can't say I'm thrilled about that. You know, I've never really met that guy. But isn't it odd that he shows up on Gavin Kruger's jet with Kim after all these years? Things like that just seem to happen whenever Gavin's involved. Oh, now come on. You know you're extremely prejudiced where Gavin is concerned. Daddy, I'm sure it's all just a coincidence. Bob, did Kim mention anything about Philippe Van Doren being with Nicole and Paris? No, she never mentioned him. Oh, Tom told me that you've hired a nighttime security guard to patrol the property. I think that's a very good idea. It's really helped with Dana's piece of going, Dad. I still saw the same old tension in her eyes when we told her Vicki Harper was dropping by. I wonder if... You wonder why? Well, maybe this is just clutching straws, but, you know, since Dana lived in Chicago when she was married to Billy, I wonder if she could have known any of the Harper brothers. That might account for her being so suspicious and uptight and Vicki's around. Franny? Dana? Dana? Dana? I'm not sure. I was taking a nap and I had this weird dream about Carol. When I woke up, I was having abdominal pains. Come on, I'm taking you to the hospital. I'll go with you. I didn't think it was anything... Honey, I'll call you as soon as Dr. St. Louis is sane, okay? I was surprised to see you working on those fences. I thought for sure everybody would be working on the wedding. Well, Dad's helping them out at the house all day with a bunch of stuff. Josh and Meg are here, too. Yeah? You know, they're so fun to hang out with, those guys. I really don't know them very well. They seem really nice, though. You know, the sun really shines on some people. And Josh and Meg living on Cal's huge ranch in Waco with servants to wait on them hand and foot. It's amazing. The best thing is they're so in love. And they like just being together. I'm sure that's great, too. But you know, I don't think they'd be as happy if Josh weren't Cal's son. You know, Josh is going to inherit all of his daddy's money someday. All of it. Are we ever going to see things the same way? Maybe not. But wouldn't our friendship be awfully dull if we agreed on everything? They say opposites attract, you know. That's what they say. Yep. Are you going to be going to Lillian Houghton's wedding? Well, they invited me. But I want Dad and I'm going to go together. So I'm going to stay here and look after the farms. Are you going with your Aunt Barbara? No, she's going with Gavin. I sure would love to see it, though. Bianca's a bridesmaid. I'd love to see how her dress turned out. Well, the church is right here in those loose corners. Why don't you just go over and watch them go in? Stand outside in the cold looking in? No way. I spent most of my life doing that. From here on out, I'm either going to be on the inside where it's all happening or nowhere at all. No, Mrs. Stewart, I was just hoping that Courtney was home from campus. Well, okay, yeah, just have her call me here or at the house later. Thank you. Bye-bye. I've got those new ideas for Kruger. Evan? Yes, I'm sorry, I was listening. Let me see what you've got. Did a bomb go off or something? Everyone's acting like they're underwater, even you. Just waiting for the dust to settle, Marcy. Does it have anything to do with the meeting with Mrs. Walsh this morning? Why don't you ask Lucinda? What? I hardly know the woman. All I know is the meeting had something to do with her coming back to Walsh and work in some sort of new capacity, is that right? You're not very good at playing dumb, Marcy. I think you know Lucinda a lot better than you're willing to admit. Well, there's that famous Evan Walsh paranoia again. Well, I have better things to do than listen to it. Why aren't you working with Holden? Because Kirk gave him time off to get ready for his wedding, remember? That's right. I wish you weren't so generous. Feeling a little threatened, are we? Well, you should. Holden is brilliant at what he does. He's a real man, he's not some preppy playing at big business. Just watch it. Another crack like that and I'll have you bounced out right on your... Don't bother to finish that threat. You know, you might try remembering some of the things you told me when we were playing house in New York. For example? For example, like you could get an important job at Dewitt Grains and Serials any time you wanted because of certain information you had about Connor and Daryl. Oh, it didn't take a genius to figure that out. I mean, once I found out that Walsh was handling some of Dewitt's business and that Connor was in charge and working very closely with Daryl. You don't know anything. Wrong again, kiddo. You told me a lot of things. And I've been carrying them around in my head ever since you dumped me. So, you better go easy on the threats before I start making some of my own. I'm glad Connor finally told you the truth about those days in Cap D'Antibes. But I never want you to discuss it with anyone. Connor! Death clerk said you were back. Come on. Open up, sis. I'm worried about you. We need to talk. When Dad sent us on this trip, I didn't expect to spend the time alone in Cap D'Antibes for three whole days when your gal went... Jamie, Jamie. Your sister's really not up to seeing anybody right now. Uh, okay. I just wanted to see if she's all right. Oh, yeah, yeah. She's fine. She's fine. Try calling her an hour or so, all right? In the meantime, I'd appreciate you forgetting everything about these past three days. Ah, young Mr. Walsh. Are you and your sister enjoying Cap D'Antibes? Yes, thanks. We're having a great time. Great. Now, listen, Nicole and I are taking out a group on the yacht today. And since you made quite an impression on the Crawford, why don't you join us? Um, thanks a lot, but I don't think so. My sister's kind of indisposed right now. Oh, what a pity. But, listen, I'll talk to her in an hour or so and then get back to you. All right, all right. Hurry home. I miss you. Mr. Philippe Van Doren is here to see you, Mr. Crawford. Van Doren? Send him out. Come on. An intense ocean storm is whipping New England right now with very high winds and high tides. Let's take a look now at some of the effects this is having. There are some roads that are flooded and some impassable. Morse Boulevard flooded. Quincy Shore Drive, Lynn Shore Drive, Winthrop Shore Drive is now impassable. It is underwater. The Haunt Beach Parkway, Revere Beach Boulevard, Hall Shore Drive, and Nantasket Avenue. Some of them have flooding at this time. Others are anticipated to be trouble spots. All of them you should stay away from if possible. This weather's kicked up late last night and early this morning. Winds are now estimated to be about 65 miles offshore, gusting up to that velocity. And the waves are at about 30 feet coming over seawalls. A lot of beach erosion at this time. This is the scene in Shaddam. We took you there earlier. There has been a limited amount of evacuation, but most of that is voluntary at this time. But you can see that the coast is really taking a beating. Let's go to Harvey Leonard now for the very latest on this storm. Harvey? Okay, Margie, the beach erosion will definitely continue, but the most serious situation is going to occur between 4 and 5 this evening, because that's the next high tide. And the tides will run about 4 feet higher than normal. So the roads that already are getting flooded, and that's a lot of them, are going to worsen over the next couple of hours as the water comes in even stronger and higher, and the winds increase as well. The winds will be very strong between now and midnight, and even when they abate a little bit after that, it'll be a very slow process. We can see the storm pulling in from the ocean, backing up from east to west, a very powerful nor'easter indeed. Some bands of rain are coming in as well. But again, the big story is going to be the wind and the coastal situation. These are the highest wind gusts in the past hour, 62 at Shaddam. They did have a peak gust of 69 miles per hour about an hour or two ago. And just off of Gloucester, winds of 74 miles per hour and 25-foot seas. We will keep you posted through the afternoon. Here's Margie. All right, thanks, Harvey. Most of this time, most of the evacuations are voluntary, but if you live in a threatened area, there are some things that the Red Cross is suggesting that you do. First of all, that you have a full tank of gas in your car, so if you need to evacuate, you can quickly. Also, that you have flashlights and extra batteries on hand in case you lose power, that you have a portable radio with extra batteries. Also, that you keep posted on things in case you need to evacuate, and that you stock up on non-perishable foods. If you need to evacuate, these are some of the things the Red Cross suggests that you take with you. First of all, be sure to take your prescription medicines. Take your glasses. Any special diet foods you may need. Baby formula, diapers, anything for a child. Important personal papers are important to bring, like insurance policy, deeds or checkbooks. Also, if it looks like you're going to have to spend the night, the Red Cross suggests that you bring extra pillows and blankets. That will certainly make your stay more comfortable. That's the latest on the storm for right now. New 7 has reporters stationed all up and down the coastline, and we'll keep you posted throughout the afternoon. We'll be back in a half an hour. This has been a News 7 Weather Advisory. Are you the next Megabucks winner? Find out tonight at 7.58. We now join the CBS network already in progress. Fred, hold on just a minute. Hello, Mr. Greer. This is Arthur Claiborne. I'd like to come by your office and talk about my assault charges against Daryl Crawford. Oh, yes, I'd be delighted if you would handle the case for me. Philippe, I hope this surprise visit means you're prepared to go to the police and tell them what you know about Arthur feeding inside information to Gavin when he was trying to take over DeWitt. Daryl, you must understand something. Gavin and I have been very close friends for a very, very long time. If it was just for Arthur's reputation, I would have gone to the police right away, but I cannot. I won't turn on Gavin. Philippe, I just want to nail Arthur for Carolyn's murder. I think you do, too. I know he's responsible. He hired the Harper family to break in and kill Carolyn before she could tell me about his involvement with Gavin. I believe that, too. So go to the police. Just relax, Daryl. Some very damaging information about Arthur and the Harper family has just fallen into my lap. It would be the best opportunity for the police to put Arthur in prison. What kind of information? Well, I wish I could tell you, but that would be premature at this point. But don't worry, I'll let you know before I leave Oakdale this time. Damn it! Don't toy with me! What kind of game are you playing here? What's going on? Excuse me, sir, but Mrs. Harper is here? Not now, Carl! There is no need to let the lady waiting, so I have said everything I had to say for now. Send her out, Carl. Is your guest a member of the same Harper family? Yes. Thanks for seeing me on such short notice. I'm sorry. Vicki Harper, Philippe Endor. Very nice to meet you. Same? Now, if you'll both excuse me, I really, really must be going. Wait a second. You can't just walk out of this house without giving me some kind of idea of the information you have on Arthur. Daryl, please, I really have to go. And if you see anything about our little story to anyone, the police included, I will just deny it. Besides, you could ruin all my chances of getting enough evidence to put Arthur behind bars. So if everything goes well, however, we'll see Arthur put in prison right away. Arthur put in prison right away. Hugger Mugger Why don't we play Hugger Mugger? Can I come in? Oh, Franny! I didn't expect to see you. Hello, Tom. Well, Dana was having some abdominal pains so we had to bring her in for a checkup. Oh, nothing serious, I hope. I hope so. We're waiting to hear. Any news with Kira? I went over to the motel where she's staying with her mother and tried to persuade her again to keep on with her lessons. She agreed to see me tomorrow. Oh, well that is good news, especially with the civil suit coming to court next week. As a matter of fact, Jess has called a meeting with me and some of the other board members so that she can brief us. Kira's going through as much turmoil as Duncan is, I'm sure, in her own way. I'm certain she wants very much to tell the truth, but with all the pressures building against her, it's just harder for her than ever. I know, Gran. Listen, how about a cup of coffee down in the cafeteria? I'll leave them by. Daddy, I'm going to stay here until Dr. Samuel's calls, but you guys go ahead, really. Alright. I'll have these two handsome gentlemen as escorts. Uh-huh, uh-huh. You get that. Bye-bye. Go ahead, son. If I'll call Darryl, tell him what's going on. Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know you were here. Larry. Hi. Lucinda, how can you be so sure that the new regime at Walsh is about to topple? Actually, Evan's been pressing me about our big meeting and I can't hold him off indefinitely, so if you plan on being reinstated, you'd better do it in a hurry or... Oh, Evan! Hey, what's going on? It's nice to see you. Just a minute. Look, I have to go. I'll get back to you. I'm sorry. Your secretary said to just come right in. Oh, it's no problem. Please come in. Sit down. Now, tell me, what is this I hear about Walsh being a little bit shaky at the moment? Absolutely not. We're on very solid ground. Although, Lucinda tried to pull an ugly stunt earlier, tried to turn us all against each other. Fortunately, her nasty little prank backfired. Kirk and Connor are on solid ground. And Holden? Well, Holden is on leave until after his honeymoon, so he's out of the picture for now. Gavin, I came here to discuss rescheduling the meeting that you postponed. Of course. Well, why don't we do it right now? Now, I'm out of the country next week. How about the week after that? Well, if that's the best you can do. It is. Now, I've been looking over the file that you smuggled out for me on DeWitt, and frankly, I would like to see the projected profits for 91 and 92. I'm sorry, Gavin, but I just can't do that. All I can tell you is that we're projecting a major increase over the 90-91 profits. Hmm. Yes, Sharon? He's here? Yes, send him in, please. I'm terribly sorry, but someone unexpected is here. I'm terribly sorry, but someone unexpected just turned up. I understand. So I'll get back to you then to set a definite date and time that week. Philippe, I can't believe that you're here. I'm sorry, I would like to meet... This is Jamie Walsh. I met you at Cap D'Entime several years ago. I remember. Nice to see you again, Mr. Vandoren. Nice to see you, too. I hear your beautiful sister is chairman of the board at Walsh now. We're both there, yes. I knew you'd both go far because you knew right away how to make the right connections. We keep on trying. I'll see you, Gavin. Mm-hmm. What in the hell are you doing in Oakdale without calling first? I'm in a rather desperate fix, Gavin. A young woman in Rome has accused me of all sorts of unsavory things, and I thought it best to leave the country as quickly as possible. And I thought that you might be willing to help out an old friend who's in a bad situation. Well, as fond as I am of you, Philippe, this is not a charity I'm running. Now, when you do favors for me, I pay you very well for them. I'm asking for a loan, Gavin, not charity. I'm sure you'd never want Daryl Crawford to know why Nicole and I went to Sardinia that night. It would be wise to stop right there. Now, you must be very desperate to even think of blackmailing me. Well, Gavin, I would never do such a thing. You know, and if you ever do try to blackmail me, I promise you, Philippe, you'll wish you had never been born. Well, I'm really sorry to hear about Dana. I hope she's gonna be okay. I'm really glad to know that Daryl hired a security guard. There's been enough weird stuff going on out at your house. I know, Larry. I just hope it all gets solved pretty soon, and we won't need a security guard patrolling our grounds. I hope so, too, for your sake. So, can I give Daddy a message for you? Um, yeah, we had a mutual friend, had a little minor surgery, came through in flying colors. He's leaving the hospital tonight, as a matter of fact. Sure, I'll be glad to tell him. Great. Give my best to Dana. Larry? I just would like to say, I'm really glad that you and Susan have found something together. I like her and respect her a lot. That's a coincidence. So do I. Dr. Hughes' office. Yes, Dr. Samuels, this is Franny Hughes. How is Dana? Oh, thank goodness. Yes, yes, ma'am, I'll be down to get her as soon as I can. Thank you so much. Bye-bye. Hey, good news, huh? Yeah, yeah, Dr. Samuels said it was just a case of indigestion and gas, and had Dana resting in her office and all the pain has gone, so... Great, great. Be nice if all pain ain't such easy resolution, huh? Bye-bye. You know I lost 30 pounds in three months on the ultra-slip fast plant. It's rainy weekends you hope will never end. It's Scrabble, America's good time game. Yeah, it's Scrabble, America's good time game. From Milton Bradley. The first month that I took advantage of the Friends and Family Program, I believe my savings was a little over $26. $84 to $85 per year. $10, $12 a month. $9 for one month. $4.37. $3 for another month. Over $100, $200, $130 a year. So adding the two came up to $12. I'm saving over $100 a year. It's as if MCI said, Merry Christmas, here's two months free savings. And I say, wow. Look. Look at the moonlight on all the colored leaves. And the water, it's almost unreal. It's so different from what I first saw in the summer. Why are you whispering? It's cute though. I guess it's so beautiful I didn't want to break the mood. It's such a kick out of such normal, simple, everyday things. But it's not simple to me. How many people ever get the chance to see something like this? Don't you see how special this is? Well, I do, but I don't go on and on about it like you do. Well, I just think that maybe there are different things that turn you on. But being different's okay. Yeah. As long as we try to understand each other. And I think we're doing really well in the understanding department, don't you? Yeah? Yeah. I was really glad we got to have dinner alone tonight. Lucky for us that Emma needed Dad's help, huh? Of course. I didn't get the feeling you cared for that liver too much, the way you drowned it in ketchup. I confess, I just don't like the texture and the smell of it. Well, see. Now, if you'd have been honest with me, we could have had something else. I like the bacon though. I just didn't want you and your dad to grow us a snowman. Do you miss your folks and your brothers and sisters? Yeah. I don't miss anything else about Alba. That's really weird. You know, I'm already starting to worry about leaving Dad here on the farm alone if I take Link up on his offer. No ifs. You are going to Oakdale U in January, okay? Why? Nothing. Just the moonlight. And your face. You're so pretty. What? Nothing. Once. Just once, Hutch. I wish you could just go with your feelings. See how excited I could be. It's inconceivable that somebody could do such a thing. I'm sure it's Arthur behind all this. Well, that was my first thought and Margo's as well. If Arthur is the one who defiled Carolyn's grave, then he has to be put away somewhere where he can get the help he needs. I mean, he's obviously demented. Philippe was telling me pretty much the same thing today. Philippe Van Doren called you? No, he's in Oakdale. He stopped by here himself. Why? He wanted to tell me that he felt that Arthur had engineered the break-in in Carolyn's murder. Any chance that he would go on record about Arthur's connection with Gavin when Gavin was trying to take over DeWitt? That was the first question out of my mouth. There's no way he's going to betray his meal ticket. Excuse me, but I have to leave. I think we had a very productive meeting today, and thanks to him, my confidence is back. Well, your talent is definitely still there. Well, thank you for that. And thank you for being so understanding about my taking so much of Daryl's time. No problem, Vicki. I'm sure I'll see you again soon. Okay. You know, when I saw your limo out front, of course I walked over because I expected to see the same driver that was with you at Emilio's last night. Oh, you mean Harold? I don't know his name. You know, the fellow with the beard. Right, that's Harold. Yeah, well, I asked for him today, but my brother-in-law Julius told me they're training him for another job, so he won't be driving as often. And I'm sorry about that because even though he doesn't say much, he's always very polite and I trust him. So I'll miss him. Well, good night. Are you going to be staying in Oakdale overnight? Uh, I'm not sure. Why? Well, I was thinking if you were around tomorrow morning, we could both go over to Walsh, work with Connor. Well, that's a great idea. Um, I'll let you know. Okay. Thanks. Tommy, Joel Higgins. Thanks. Hi, Joel. What's up? I hate to bother you, but I just got the weirdest call from Margo asking for you. I was telling her where to find you when we suddenly got disconnected. I waited 15 minutes for her to call back, but she didn't. I thought you'd want to know. Uh, yeah, you're right. Let me know the moment you know anything, okay? I, uh, wanted to tell you I saw Larry when I was in your office earlier and he wanted me to tell you that a mutual friend came through a minor surgery just fine. Yes, I know. I, uh, I saw her before I left the hospital. Yeah, Lila, no, I'm taking her home right now. Yeah. Okay, give, um, give Katie a hug for me, right. Them too. Okay, I will, I will. All right, all right, bye. Lila sends her love. Oh, that's nice. I was very groggy when she was in here before. Uh, no, look, the last thing I remember John saying was he wanted you to be sure and take the next couple days off. Gee, that's generous. I think if I'm failing, better go home. I'll, I'll, I'll do that. I'm just going to come into work anyway just to stay busy, you know. Sue, glad to see you feeling up to going home. Oh, thank you. Thank you for getting me into surgery so quickly. Oh, no problem. Look, I just want to reiterate what I told you both. I'm 99% certain that the cyst was benign. We'll know for sure when we get the lab report back tomorrow. And another thing, I, uh, I do want to commend you for the way you handle this. You know, sometimes doctors are just as lax as other women about self-examination and especially taking immediate action. I understand there's a level of fear involved, but early detection is just so essential in these cases. Listen to me. Uh, end of lecture. Good night and you get some rest. Bye. Good night. Um, and I would like to add to that, I'm very proud of you. Ha, ha. I just haven't heard those words very often in my life. Well, get used to it. And now that you're past all of this, I intend to stay on you about any areas of sagging self-esteem I happen to come across. You got your work cut out for you because at my age, a lot of things are sagging. And no more age jokes either. So when we leave this hospital tonight, let's make it a fresh start for both of us. Well, I'll try. Positive thinking all the way. Okay, okay, okay. Okay. All right. Okay. Let's go home. Okay. All right. I'll carry this. Okay. Where are you going? Wait. Well, I'm not going to let these beautiful flowers stay here. Well, let me carry them. Come on. Oh. Oh. Sorry. After you. Gregory Wilson and his grandma bake Nestle Toll House cookies. Jessica Griffin called me about testifying at the trial since I worked at the center. Oh, yes, I'd forgotten you worked at the center for a while. Yes, that's where Franny got the idea of having Dana be surrogate for Daryl and Carol. Ladies and gentlemen, dinner is served. Oh, I don't want to be first. Here we go. You OK? Franny, I know you think that I have an overactive imagination, but I just can't shake the feeling that I've seen Vicki Harper somewhere before. It's all jumbled up in my mind. Her voice and her mannerisms are the same, but she looks different somehow. Well, Dana, you just keep thinking about it. If you remember anything, would you tell me? Ten a.m. on Friday. I'll check with Jade and I'll get back to you. Oh, Evan, we really should have a drink one evening soon. I'd like to hear more about your trip to Europe when you and Connor met Philippe. Well, there's really not much to tell. Is that when you first met Daryl and Carol? Yeah. Oh, you'll have to excuse me. My next appointment is here. Remember, keep Tess busy and happy. Hello, Mr. Krueger. Hello, Miss Breen. Won't you come in? Thank you. I thought it best that we meet after normal office hours. I'm glad you're upstairs and relaxed. I'm just finishing up down here, and then I'll come up and relax with you. You'd better hurry up. That could be Gavin. I'll see what he wants and I'll be right up. Philippe, what are you doing back in Oakdale? I came all this way just to see you, dear Arthur, so that I could ask you about your friendship with Billy Lambert. Well, I don't know who that is, so you've wasted your trip. I doubt that very much. What about the two million dollars in ransom money that you split with Lambert after he kidnapped that young lady who is carrying Daryl and Carolyn's baby? I hope that jolted your memory, because if you don't answer my question, I will have to go to the Harper Brothers and see what their answers are. Within a shake, you can treat your family to crisp, juicy chicken. Without frying. Why fry? Shake and bake. This is a new seven weather advisory. Good afternoon, I'm Margie Reedy. We have an update now on that ocean storm that is moving in from the northeast and really beating up the New England coast. Tides are now three to four feet above normal, and high tide is yet to come. Let's go out now to Ron Sanders who is in situ at live. Ron? Margie, it's almost high tide here. We're at second cliff and we're somewhat protected by the wind because we're in the lee of a hill, but we have a spectacular view of third cliff where the breakers have been pounding about a dozen houses on Peggady Beach. As you watch this live picture, you'll see what I mean when the water comes ashore and lands at the doorstep of these homes that are all too familiar with storms. The residents of Situate Beaches are all too familiar with the punch a nor'easter can pack. This was the scene at Minot Beach in the northern part of Situate as the tide was coming in just a short time ago. Waves 20 to 30 feet high pounded the seawall on Glades Road where homeowners have been bracing for the worst. We've seen a lot of good storms here. A lot of good storms. We've had water running down between the yards and everything. And I was also through blizzard of 78 and I know what that was like. What do you think is going to happen this time? Whoa, watch out. Right behind you. A lot more of that as it comes up to 430, that's for sure. I'm going to block out my driveway here so we don't get too much erosion. This gives you an idea of what the wind and the waves were like about 1 o'clock, 3 hours before high tide at Egypt Beach in Situate. We went to see the waves in the ocean, which is spectacular and very destructive. And so you're leaving. And so, well, it's no longer safe to stay on the other end of the road. You're going to higher ground. We're going, well, we're coming to this end of the beach because that end is about to be washed away. Once again, you're looking at a live picture of 3rd Cliff in Situate where you can see the waves that are now about 30 feet high explode on the shore and roll off the roofs of some houses. There are about a dozen houses on Peggady Beach. Some of them have been heavily damaged. A number of houses have been destroyed before in the blizzard of 78. So the people here are, as we say, very familiar with the force that these storms can pack. Situate's fire chief, James Breen, says he expects the worst between now and midnight. He's advising all residents who live in low-lying areas to evacuate to seek safe ground. And the high school opened as of 2 o'clock here in Situate as an evacuation center for people to seek shelter. Let's go live now as we continue our Team 7 coverage to Mike Lawrence who is in Chatham. Mike, what's it like down there? Ron, thank you. I'm at the Chatham Beach and Tennis Club. And behind me, if you look out into the ocean, you can see a new breach in the Chatham break. Many of you will remember about four years ago the sandbar out in the ocean just offshore was broken by a winter storm allowing ocean waves to come into shore and hit some of the low-lying houses. That is now happening again. And what you're looking at is very different than any map you may have at home because in the last 24 hours yet another breach has been opened in the break. Evacuations have begun in low-lying areas here in Chatham and in other communities as well, including Situate and Marshfield. We talked with Lou Hicks just as he was evacuating his house. They requested this. They said, will you most of the students want on our part if we got out of here by 2 o'clock, 2.30 because they expect a pretty good tidal surge. Any quarrel with that? No, not at all. I was packed. I said, we're practically history now. We're gone. Again, a live view here in Chatham as you look at the breach that has opened up in the last 24 hours allowing ocean waves to come out onto Chatham's shore near the Coast Guard Station. Electrical power is becoming an issue as well as the winds have picked up. Commonwealth Electric says they have already requested out-of-state help. And here in Chatham we are seeing power lines being intentionally shut off on the eastern end of town as electric company and police officials are worried that some of the power lines may hit the water causing even more widespread problems. Continuing our Team 7 coverage now, we go live to Harvey Leonard in the Weather Center. Harvey? Okay, thank you very much, Mike. You know, it might seem obvious to most of you, hopefully, based on Mike's report and Ron's report. This is a powerful and dangerous storm. And the Coast Guard would just like us to remind all of you it is tempting to want to watch this storm close up. Don't go real close up on the rocks. People have definitely in the past there's been loss of life. People swept off the rocks by big waves that have come and have been taken out at sea. So please be at a distance from the storm. Satellite imagery is showing the storm moving east to west. This is, of course, unusual, but it's a very powerful storm and that's why the clouds are coming in and some of the rain bands as well. Chatham radar is showing that. But we're not as concerned with the rain, nowhere near as concerned with rain potential as with the wind. That's occurring now. These were the peak gusts within the past hour, mostly 40 to 50 miles per hour conservatively along the coast and over 60 miles per hour, Chatham. The wind should be about the way they are now and at times a little bit stronger over the next four to eight hours. And, of course, that coincides with a high tide that's coming between 4 and 15 p.m. And the waters continue to build offshore, already flooding in many coastal roads, and there'll be more flooding as the next hour and a half goes along and it gets even more severe. Also, high wind warning is out even for interior sections as well and there could be some additional power outages as small limbs do come down. We do not expect anywhere near the amount of tree damage as with Bob. For one reason, most of the leaves are off many of the trees and that helps to keep those trees standing. Of course, we will keep you posted throughout the afternoon. Margie? Alright, especially the trees and the poor areas in the Cape have already been beaten up so much. Some of the communities in Revere are now under voluntary evacuation and that's Point of Pines, Kelly's Meadow, Broad Sound Avenue, Oak Island, and all beachfront areas, voluntary evacuation there. As we take another look at those, some of the neighborhoods, again, if you look out your window and it looks bad, then you should go. Here as we look at live pictures again from Situate, these are the conditions in some other areas. Nantucket reports of many boats aground. Roads have been closed in low-lying areas and residents are being evacuated on a voluntary basis to the elementary school. In Eastam, beaches are closed, there are minor power outages there. On Martha's Vineyard, some roads are blocked by rising water. In Winthrop, beaches are closed. Winthrop Shore Drive is underwater and impassable. A lot more roads coming in that condition. And in Melrose, reports of wires down. We also have a report from the Coast Guard that they rescued three people from a sailboat 70 miles south of Nantucket. That happened about 2.30 this afternoon. The people are in good condition now. It was quite a dramatic rescue though. They could not get a boat close enough and so a swimmer had to actually get into this water and help the people off the boat, got them into a harness and then they were lifted by helicopter out of there. Needless to say, the Coast Guard is saying stay off the water, do not get in a boat and get into this and don't be a thrill seeker going down to the shoreline to take a look either. You can see that it's extremely dangerous. We'll be more than happy to bring live pictures to you and believe me, our photographers and reporters maintain a safe distance. We'll have reports throughout the afternoon. We'll be back in one half an hour. I don't know how this could have happened. You better hope this building is burning down, pal. William just told me we were going out live. What the hell is going on? That's what I would like to know. What kind of station are you running here? What's going on? The feed was switched. Wow. I don't know. I don't know how it could have happened. It was just fine. Okay. It's a false alarm. You better damn well figure it out, pal, because the FCC is going to want to know. We weren't cleared for air with it. I know. I've got to call the legal department and warn them. At least our guest star didn't get his name out. Oh, man, if she had made some kind of phony accusation, I hate to think of the lawsuit. I don't think it was phony. I believe her. Oh, come on, Holly. She didn't have any real proof. Well, call it instinct or something. It was the way she had this story affected her. I didn't think she was faking it. I wouldn't have put it on tape if I did. Makes you wonder, doesn't it, who really killed her sister? Yeah, it does, especially since he's running around a Springfield somewhere. You're only getting this. Or this. What happens now, Tark? Think about it. Assume the position. You heard the man. Spread out. Now, how'd you know the kid was working with me, huh? You wind it out, man. I'll make sure they go easy on you. What are you trying to say? Tark, he's got nothing. He's got nothing to lose. He'll take you down with him. Shut up. Look at the man he's using you. You cooperate with the DA's office like... I said shut up. Oh, stupid. What is it? They tapped my phone. Hey, no brains, no headaches. Yeah, you should talk. You came in here without backup. You can forget about Levy riding in with the cavalry. He never got the message from Ross Marler. I intercepted it before he ever got it. I'm sorry, Tark. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I' m sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. All right? Say it again, once again! I'm out. Just swing the stick. Just swing the stick. On the field! All right? On the field! Take him away. The staff, I want him out. Let him go. It's over. One more word out of you and I'm gonna splatter your brains all over that wall. That'd be pretty messy. Figure it out, Tark! Hunchback, we can't just waste him. Look, the DA's love his nose. I'm here. They know everything! And without you, they've got nothing! You are into this up to your eyeballs, man. You better think! Nah, he's desperate. He'll say anything! What are we gonna do to him? Bring the car around back. We can take a little ride in the country. And Detective Mallet's gonna disappear. Go on. Everything's gonna be okay. The The The The The The Running my own business is great. You got a lot on your mind, huh? You here to see your brother? Yes. Well, I just talked to Lillian. The boy's exhausted. They think it might be best if we didn't... Darling. Oh, I'm sorry. What did you say? What's going on with you? Nothing. That's a mighty big nothing. I'm just worried about Dylan, that's all. Well, the doctors gave him something to help him sleep. That's what I was trying to tell you. And they don't think anyone should disturb him. Why? Did something else happen? No, nothing serious, darling. It's just that he needs some rest. The boy needs some rest, that's all. Matter of fact, he's going to be leaving the hospital tomorrow. And, you know, it's been a big shock for all of us. I know, but the important thing is that he's going to be okay. Yeah. You know, it's a lucky thing that Dylan's got a head as hard as his father's. Mindy, if you need to talk, we can go someplace. Granddaddy, I'm fine. Billy hinted that you hit sort of a rough patch back there. Some fella that didn't work out and another one that maybe could. Says you haven't wanted to talk about it. There's nothing much to tell. Maybe it's hard for you to tell Billy about it. What do you mean? You know how close I am to Daddy. Of course I do, but part of him thinks of you as his princess. It's hard to talk plain to a person like that, particularly when you're on a pedestal like that. You're pretty smart, you know that? Well, you pick up a few things when you've been around as long as I have. Now this fella you broke up with. That's over. It was a big mistake. And this new fella. He didn't just jump into that on the rebound. He did something like that. No, he didn't. I thought about it a lot. It hasn't been that long, darling. I know, but sometimes things just feel right. You know, if more people believed in that simple truth, this world would be a lot better place. So you like him a lot, huh? Yeah, I do. I just hope he's half as smart as he is lucky. What? Does he know what a wonderful gal he got interested in him? Yeah, I think he really cares about me. Well then what's the problem? You're looking at me like there is a problem. Yeah, there is. I'm sure that two smart kids who love each other can work their way through this one. I don't know. I'm not so sure. It's a... it's a woman. I see. He's not married. No. Well, good. A girlfriend? In a way, I wish it were. Are you expecting someone? Let's just say that my plans have suddenly been altered. Which is none of your business. I just wasn't aware that you knew anyone else in town. There's a lot you don't know about me. Yes, well, I could say the same thing. You know, I don't remember inviting you in. You didn't. It must be really nice, doing whatever you want. Is that something that you learn or is that something that comes with birth, with a silver spoon in your mouth? This narrow-mindedness must be a real handicap in your profession. I call him like I see him. Of course, because of my upbringing, I've had certain advantages. The divine right of royalty. But that does not mean everything has just been handed to me. Yeah, well, I guess what you didn't have handed you took, right? You really don't have a clue. Oh, no? I asked you to leave and you're still here. My keen reporter's instinct tells me that is a clue. Can we stop this? I guess you've decided that you want something from me. Understand this. What I have, I have worked very hard for. And I do not, as you seem to think, always get what I want. In fact, I have spent the better part of my life coping with the things that were taken from me. Should I bring out my violin? I mean, you don't really expect me to buy all that, do you? I don't really care. You had a misconception and I corrected it, that's all. Did I? Yes. I have a life of wealth and privilege. But I would gladly give it all up to have certain things back. Like what? What don't you have that you can't just go out and buy? My son, Mr. McHenry. My son. I know it went out of line, but we've corrected the situation in here. You take care of everything out on the floor. Olly. What? The firemen are going to continue their search of the building, but it appears to be a false alarm. Thank you, sir. This is no way to run a television station. This was a mistake, Roger. Let's find out what went wrong so it doesn't happen next time. There's not going to be a next time for whoever was responsible. Let me handle the staff. Well, it looks like you could use some help, doesn't it? Who was supposed to be supervising in here? Well, I was producing it, but I was doing the interview. You hadn't sent Jilly to San Francisco. I was in charge. Well, it looks like you weren't up to the task. Roger. Let me handle this. Somebody else had to change the patch on the board. What? What's up? Greg, please, Greg. Excuse me. Could you tell me how long Mr. Thorpe is going to be? I don't know. He's talking to Miss Lindsay. It could be for a while. I really don't know. I'll just wait until he's finished. What do you want to do? Wait. Come on, Roger. It was crazy in here today. It could have been anybody. I'm sorry, Mr. Thorpe. Sorry doesn't cut it. Sorry won't undo this mess. I'm sorry too, Scotty. I've got to let you go. But it wasn't my fault. Well, you were in charge. It was your responsibility. But I've been working here 12 years. I know. And maybe that's part of the problem. Look, we'll work out a good severance package for you. At least give me a chance to figure out who it was. No, Dicey. No longer work here. Now, please, excuse us. We've got a lot to do. You don't have to be so hard on him. Oh, never mind that. Get that crew back in here and let's finish taping. Are you kidding? We don't even know what went out over the air. Holly, the meter is running. We're paying everybody's salary out there. Now, come on. We've wasted enough time. We're not doing anything until I hear from Legal, and I want to know how this mess has happened. We had a technical failure! There's no reason to shut down the station. If we don't, the FCC just might. This is my decision. It's final. Besides, she's left. What? Jean, I told her to leave the studio. Inside Buckingham Palace today at 4 on Inside Edition. This is a new 7 Weather Advisory. Good afternoon. High winds, high water, big trouble along the New England coast this afternoon. These are live pictures from Situate. You can get an idea how the seas are running. 30-foot seas further out. These breakers hitting right up on the shore. A good deal of beach erosion all along eastern shorelines. News 7 meteorologist Harvey Leonard is following this big storm that's backed into us from the ocean. Harvey? Okay, RD. Right you are. Some wind gusts that we've had in the last few minutes. 66 miles per hour at Chatham, 58 miles per hour at Provincetown, 60 miles per hour just reported to us in Osterville, 57 miles per hour at Nantucket, 53 at Providence, 48 here in Boston. The next hour and hour and a half are very, very crucial because the high tide is just that. About an hour to an hour and a half away depending on where along the east coast of Massachusetts you may be. And the waters continue to build. Many of the roadways along the shoreline are either flooded or closed at this time. And the waters are still rising. The wind speeds will stay about the way they are or just slightly stronger at times for the next several hours. Now something we'll get into a little bit later today is the fact that even when the worst of the storm is over, it is going to be very, very slow to wind down and we'll be with us actually in some form for a couple of days. We'll update you on all of that a little bit later. RD? Harvey, let me just ask you a question here. Not that many weeks ago we were dealing with Hurricane Bob and there you have a storm that comes and goes rather quickly. This one seems to have built and seems to be sticking around for a while. Yes, very different and a very good point. And what that means is the wind and the wave action is a little bit different than you'd have with a hurricane. We have already had along east-facing coastal areas, especially Chatham, several high tides already. The last four or five have all caused beach erosion and there is the compounding effect. Also when the storm is so far out at sea, those waves and seas really get a chance to build on that long trip in. And again we're seeing some of those live waves breaking the breakers and crashing against the shore right now. So even though the high tide that will be early tomorrow morning and even the one late tomorrow shouldn't be as bad as the one we're going to have about an hour from now, those will cause some additional damage and some flooding as well. So the story won't end late this afternoon, but the peak of the storm in terms of the coastal situation should be occurring within the next hour to hour and a half. Are these astronomical high tides? No, actually they're running about 10 feet here, for example, for Boston Harbor. These are going to run about four feet above normal. The blizzard of 78 by comparison was astronomically high, running about 12 feet and then compounded by about four feet on top of that. So they won't be quite as bad as the blizzard, but as we can already see, bad enough to cause some problems. Thank you. Meteorologist Harvey Leonard. Let's bring you up to date on a couple of other things. Harvey mentioned the roads that have been closed in a number of areas. Metropolitan police have closed the following roadways. Winthrop Shore Drive, Hull Shore Drive, Morrissey Boulevard in Dorchester, Broad Sound Avenue in Revere, the Hunt Beach Parkway, Marblehead Causeway, and Front Street by Fort Sewell. Metropolitan police closing those roads because of high water. Obviously, use common sense here. We can show you plenty of pictures here on News 7 throughout the afternoon and evening. Don't risk your life and limb to be out there to get a close-up look yourself. One other note from Boston Edison. Edison says the preparations are being made to shut down the nuclear power plant, the Pilgrim nuclear power plant in Plymouth after a continuous run of some 73 days. Power was reduced earlier because of conditions resulting from this storm. Apparently, what has happened is the winds have broken up large mats of seaweed and pieces small enough to get through the screens that are on the water filters and have managed to enter the plant's condenser. Now, these sea conditions, as Harvey has indicated, will last for several days, so the folks at Pilgrim say they are going to shut down the power station in Plymouth. That is what we have at the moment. We, of course, will be updating you throughout the afternoon. We'll bring you full coverage from all along the Massachusetts shore on News 7 at 530 and at 6. We'll see you then. Now back to our regular program. This has been a News 7 Weather Advisory. We now join the CBS network already in progress. That was gutsy but stupid. That way, if we lose the house, we can live in your bloomers. Well, when you're knocking on the gates of heaven, you better stay on good terms with the doorman. So why'd you do it? You can tell me what's the difference. Money. That's why I did it. Falling a little behind? Always. Always struggling to stay afloat. You know how much cops make. Yeah, and you see those yuppie jerks cruising around in their fancy cars, living in the best houses? And they're crooked. Most of them, all that insider trading makes me sick. What do they get, a slap on the wrist? Or a vacation in one of them country club prisons. Yeah, and those drug dealers, they're the worst, making it hand over fist. They laugh in our faces, we can't even touch them. Yeah, and if you do, if you turn around, they're back out in the street, prisons too. Look back. Now. They owed me. I took what I deserved. Tark? Yeah, it's me. What'd you think? Was the guy's in white hats? That only happens in the movies. Did you bring the car around? Yeah, it's out back. Well, our friend here's been getting real cute. Keep him covered, huh? I'm leaving. Hey, you all right? Harley. You okay? Yeah. Good. Hello. Hi. Right this way. Can I get you folks something from the bar? Club soda with lime, please. Bourbon and branch for me, please. Thank you. Well, well, well, well. Granddaddy, I could really use some advice. There's an old saying, some French fellow, goes something like this. Most things wrong with young people is advice they got from old folks. Well, that French fellow didn't have you for a grandfather. The point is, darling, I can't tell you what to do or what not to do. You've got to decide that for yourself. I can tell you about some things I know about. About me? About things. Darling, life is a struggle. Yeah, that part I know. Well, I don't mean you got to be unhappy about it all the time. Quite the opposite. You got to accept that the roadblocks is part of the journey. And even if things seem bad at times... ...when it's hopeless, I feel like I'm in a no-win situation. I mean, I could forget about this guy and just walk away. We both know what's wrong with that choice. But if I try to make it work, there's another person involved. The woman you mentioned? Yes. And not a girlfriend. Who is she? Is she his mother? No. I just feel like maybe it's not meant to work out. Here we are. Thank you. Thank you. Darling, that is up to you. Nothing worth having in this world ever come easy. You got to get in there. Take a hold of life. Live every day like it was your last one. And when you get to the end, you don't have any regrets. Now, that sounds like a toast speech to that good luck. You actually make it sound possible. If you like this man, then be with him. I don't think you should let anyone or anything come between you and your own happiness. Even this woman. You know, from the way you looked at me earlier, I take it she's something major. She makes me understand why they named hurricanes after women. That bad? Worse. Well, there ain't that many of them around. But you knew some wild women in your day. Grandma wasn't like that, though. No way. What about Miss Sally? She was a different story. I knew that woman was troubled the minute I laid eyes on her. But she had that spark. And when I was with her, she made me feel like I could do anything. So, there you are. You and Alexandra were close friends. Now, there's a real hellcat. Alexandra Spaulding is a wonderful woman. But you cross her and she can be ruthless. That's one person I'd want to keep on my good side, darling. Mr. McHenry, I came here with the best of intentions. I don't doubt that. I just think that we seem to touch something off in one another. Yes. Look, I'm sorry if I came on kind of strong. It's just this job in New York, it means a lot to me. I've got a lot of things on my mind. Is that all it is? When I came in, I had a feeling that... That's it, Miss Spaulding. I had a life, another life before I came here and started tracking down your son. I just would like to get back to it, that's all. I just wish I knew more about you. There's nothing more to know. I'm a reporter. I'm struggling to get ahead just like everybody else. Except us rich folk. Yeah, I'm sorry about that. Sometimes my keen reporter's instincts just puts my foot right in my mouth. And I'm sorry about dragging things up about your son. I know you loved him a lot. Enough to want to be sure about everything. I'm sure. I'm Nick McHenry and your son was who he was. The only thing that we have in common is this freak of nature. I wonder if that's all it is. Please, please. Let's not go back into this, all right? Hell, I figured you'd be happy that I'm leaving. After all, you just thought I was here for your money, right? I apologize for that. Experience has taught me to be cautious. Forget it. I don't even know why I brought it up. Everybody else in this town thought I was too. Well, my friends in Canwe just wanted to protect me. They know how much I love my son and the shock of seeing you. I'm not your son and Lujac was not my brother. I was born in San Francisco nine days after he was born in Paris. That makes it virtually impossible that we have the same mother. I know all the facts in my head, but something is still nagging at me. It's just this face. Look. Just forget that you ever saw me. Forget that I ever even came to Springfield. Just go on with your own life. Because that's exactly what I plan on doing. Just like that? Just like that. You put your life on hold because of this. The only reason you came here was because of Lujac, right? That's right. A strange town. You didn't know anyone except Fletcher, vaguely. And you only made that connection after you got here. Yes, so? I can't believe you're satisfied. I'm not. I need answers. I don't even know the questions yet. But I know you have the answers. Look, I tried. There's more to it, and I think you know it. I have other people in my life. Yeah, you do. People that I care about. I can't just... One night. That's all I'm asking. Please, Ms. Falding. I just... Just give me tonight. I'm begging you to make time for me. Why drag it out? You have doubts and questions, too. I can see it in your eyes. Maybe together we can find some answers. All right. All right. But I gotta make a phone call first. Hi, it's Melinda. I'm not able to take your call, but please leave a message, and I will call you back. Hi, it's me. Look, I gotta talk to you. But something's come up right now. I'll call you later, all right? Bye. All right, let's talk. I could use a drink. We can go downstairs. Unless, of course, you want to go someplace a little more upscale. No, it's not that. I just like something more than a beer. How about the Blue Moon? Let's do it. You know, it's not something we talk about. Then don't talk about it. But when Raymond gets... Gets what? You know, constipated. What? I give him Philip's milk of magnesium. Put that away. Philip's works overnight and immediately starts soothing the stomach acid Ray sometimes gets when he's feeling... Oh, Marie. Well, it's true, honey. Only Philip's relieves constipation overnight and soothes your upset stomach. It can happen to anybody. But you don't even know these people. Coming to Video Cassette. So that's what all the commotion was about, huh? So, Daniel, what brings you by? I almost forgot. I got word on my assignment. And? I came straight over from Ed's office. Yeah? And you're looking at the next chief in the wrong. Oh, you got it! Yeah, it's official. Oh, I'm so proud of you. I don't know why I'm surprised. I knew you were gonna get it. You were looking at someone who has reached the top of his profession. Well, yeah. Don't you say anything? Congratulations. Oh, this is great. We're gonna go celebrate. I gotta tell you about the show. We were taping on the fire alarm went off. Oh, yeah. Holly was interviewing a woman with the most fascinating story. Yeah, this man, he cold-bloodedly plotted the murder of her sister. Yeah, well, Daniel would know all about the diseased mind of his line of work. Well, actually, my specialty is surgery, not psychology. Any news on who pulled the alarm? Well, I'm checking everyone who was in the building today. I've got a few more to go. Well, let me know as soon as you find out anything. You got it. Oh, William. Where's this weather all standing? Here we go. Name stage places. Everything we need to clean the rides. Oh, Ross is gonna love this. He's gonna make his day. He should feel pretty good, too. Yeah, I feel great. Nice job, Rookie. How's it feel to make your first caller? It's good. It's really good. You know you're not gonna get the credit for this. Oh, I know. I'm just happy it turned out the way it did. Well, you're gonna get a reputation as a real tough dude. Dude-ess. I just can't believe you took this guy down. Well, I had a good teacher. Well, I guess Cooper had us all fooled. She really came through. She got lucky. Ah, you make your own luck. She shows some real smarts and intuition. She should have called for backup. What's eating you? Nothing. Look, I know she's in your class at the Academy, so you sort of feel responsible, but she knew the danger's coming in. Man, she's just not ready. Hey, maybe, maybe not. The food okay? Oh, yeah, fine. I'm sorry. Uh, well, if you're listening to me, I hope you're listening to your heart. I am, Granddaddy. That's exactly what I'm doing. That's my gal. But there's still a problem. Well, no extra charge. I need to know how to tell Daddy that I'm leaving Springfield. Well, this, uh, sounds like more than a vacation. Yeah, I'm... I'm moving to New York. Well, that's gonna hit Billy kind of hard. I know, and after everything that happened to Dylan, I'm really worried. But I don't want to hurt him. I just need to do what's best for me. Darling, has this got anything to do with this young fella? Yeah. In no way, uh, he could come to Springfield, is it? Well, he's got this really important job lined up in New York, and I think it's a much better place for me as a designer. Well, even if we were in Springfield, there's reasons we couldn't be together. Well, there's your answer. I still say you've got to live your own life to the fullest. Your daddy's got a jet. He can come visit. But how do I tell him? Just do it. I was a wildcatter, and I went where it was best for me. Now, Billy knows how that is. He loves you, darling, and he'll do what's best for you. By the way, uh, when do I get to meet this young fella? Things get serious. Why wait? Tell him to bring his folks down to Cross Creek. We'll have a big celebration. He doesn't have any when both of his parents passed away. Oh, that's a shame. Yeah. Sometimes it seems like family gets in the way. Darling, go call him. Okay. I'll be right back. Jimmy Swaggart's fall from grace on Hard Copy. This is a News 7 Weather Advisory. And the picture tells the story. Situate takes a pounding as a big ocean storm hits the New England coast. Good afternoon. I'm R.D. Saul, News 7. We're following this big nor'easter. And as we well know in New England, our most serious weather comes out of the northeast. We have reporters stationed all along the coast. Let's begin in Chatham this afternoon. And News 7's Mike Lawrence. Mike, how have things changed down there? R.D., the seas have picked up amazingly just in the last hour or so. You can see some of the surf coming in. It's much closer than it was, and the seas are much rougher. Winds here, at least when they gust, are pushing hurricane force. Off to your right, we'll take a look with the camera at an area we visited just an hour ago. There's a house out in the distance there, virtually surrounded now on two sides by the approaching waves. We visited some people in that house, and one next door, they were in the process of being evacuated at about 2 p.m. this afternoon. Everyone in that low-lying area is now just about gone into some of the nearby shelters. Much of the eastern side of Chatham is in the same shape. Electrical crews have been at work here in that neighborhood, and others like it, disconnecting the power because there is fear some of the lines may fall and go into the water. So most of these areas now are without power and are trying their best to withstand what is a worsening wind and storm situation. Mike Lawrence, New 7, reporting live from Chatham. R.D., back to you. Thank you, Mike. Let's head offshore now. Let's go to Nantucket. On the telephone is Nantucket Police Sergeant Ronald Glidden. Sergeant Glidden, good afternoon. Good afternoon. We understand you've declared a state of emergency in Nantucket. Yes, we did. About 3 o'clock we declared a storm emergency. Tell us why. Right now the low-lying areas are completely impassable, and we've had to evacuate a lot of homes, and the cars on the road are causing an extra problem, so we're trying to clear all the roads out. You've had a good deal of beach erosion, we would imagine? Some beach erosion, but right now we're having a problem with some of the houses in the downtown area close to the water. The houses are being flooded, and we have a lot of cars that are stuck because they're almost covered with water in some spots. What about boats? Any aground? There's some smaller boats aground. I haven't checked the wharfs yet as far as the fishing boats go, but we have had a lot of the smaller pleasure boats come up on the beach. Have you had any evacuations either forced or voluntary? Yes, we haven't had any forced evacuations yet, but we've had quite a bit of voluntary evacuations. We're putting all the people in the elementary school right now, everybody from the low-lying areas, and we've had police cruisers out to all the low-lying areas to try to encourage people to evacuate to the elementary school. Power outages? Off and on. The power's been pretty good so far. We've asked it to be shut down in some of the places that are flooded so that we don't have a problem with the wires going down. And the state of emergency remains in effect until you say it isn't, right? Right, until the water recedes a little bit. We're expecting high tide sometime around 5 or 5.30, so we're waiting to see what happens after that. All right. Thanks, Sergeant Ronald Glidden in Nantucket this afternoon. And again, a state of emergency in effect there. We opened a few moments ago with some pictures from Situate. Let's head there live, and New 7's Ron Sanders. Ron? RD, we're at Second Cliff in the southern part of Situate, and we've been watching the big breakers slam into the seawalls and wash over the houses here. We'll give you a better look as we zoom in and get a tight shot of one house in particular where you can see the waves come ashore and go right over the top of the house. It's a barn-style house. There are some homes up in North Situate, the Minot Beach area and the Glades, which are also being pounded. Some streets and homes in low-lying areas around Situate Harbor are being flooded. Fishing boat skippers up in Situate Harbor have been nervously watching their boats, making sure they're as secure as they can be, and homeowners have been boarding up and girding for the worst. The fire chief here has declared a state of emergency, and we understand that earlier firefighters were unable to get to some people who said they were stranded in low-lying areas. We have no update, and as a matter of fact, we here in the Second Cliff area are told that we're stranded. We haven't gone down to have a look at the road that leads out to it, but we understand that an ambulance tried to make it out here and couldn't get through three feet of water. One of the residents who lives at Second Cliff told us just a little while ago, she has never seen the waves wash over the seawall, which is directly behind us, and as we are well into high tide now or about to reach its peak, we have several hours to go before it subsides. So there's a great deal of concern here, especially among the people who are familiar with storms such as this and the blizzard of 78, but we'll have to wait and see just how much damage this one will do, RD. Thank you. Ron Sanders in Situate certainly makes real estate on the shore look a little less attractive when you see pictures like that. We remind ourselves that this is not a hurricane. Let's go to Chief Meteorologist Harvey Leonard. The seas certainly look as rough as they did when Hurricane Bob rolled through here a few weeks ago. Right, RD. You know, there was, of course, Hurricane Grace that went across Bermuda, and a little of that system has been involved in this tremendous ocean storm, but we've got to point out we've had many, many powerful ocean storms that actually are as strong as some hurricanes are, so even though we don't classify it as such, ship reports near the center of this storm have been over hurricane force for quite a while. It's a very powerful ocean storm. We are into the time period of greatest concern for all residents right along the shoreline because, as you can see, the high tide is from now through the next hour to hour and 15 minutes, as you see up and down our coastline the time of high tide. The winds continue to increase, and they will perhaps a little bit more in some areas. Let's show you why. The storm itself continues to back more or less in our direction. Also, the storm is peeking out in terms of intensity during the next number of hours, and a strong rain band has been moving ashore on Cape Cod, and what's interesting about this rain band right here is that it seems to contain perhaps the strongest wind gusts of all, so as it's been moving across Chatham, for example, we have a report of wind gusts of 71 miles per hour, very similar to what Mike Lawrence, of course, has been telling us, Provincetown a wind gust to 61. So in the next couple of hours, this rain band will move into the Boston area and the entire coastline as well, but again, rain is not really the big part of the picture here. It is the very, very strong winds, and of course the flooding at time of high tide, which is coming up perhaps as much as four feet above normal. These were high wind gusts within the last two hours, but some that we're getting, we'll update this next time around, are showing the winds to be higher than that. The final thing I want to point out is even though we pass the high tide this evening, things will be very, very slow to improve, and the storm itself will slowly weaken but not really move away, so we're going to be under its influence over the next couple of days. We're going to continue with strong northeasterly winds, just not quite as strong as what we're experiencing now. RD? Alright, thank you, Harvey Leonard. Again, the high tides between now and about 5.15 this evening, depending on where you are along the shore. We're also heading into the commuting hours. There are some highways and roads that have been closed because of the weather today. Here they are, Metropolitan Police saying Winthrop Shore Drive, Hull Shore Drive, Morrissey Boulevard in Dorchester, Broad Sound Avenue in Revere, Nahant Beach Parkway, Marblehead Causeway, Front Street by Fort Sewell, the Fox Hill Bridge between Route 107 and Lynn Marsh Road also closed. A couple of other commuting notes. Things are running smoothly at Logan Airport according to last report, but do check with your airline. The T says no changes in its schedule. The Massport says no plans to close the Tobin Bridge. The commuter boats, Mass Bay Lines and Boston Harbor Commuter Service say they will be running this afternoon. We'll keep you posted throughout the afternoon to get a full wrap-up of what's going on right now, coming up on News 7 at 5.30 and 6. See you then. This has been a News 7 Weather Advisory. Oh yeah. By the way, the State Department says he's the only person in America who has been able to run this type of family planning project so successfully. But the Justice Department has been trying to prosecute him on obscenity charges for years. Some people would say it's a clean cover on what is basically a dirty business. The business is anything but dirty. The business has always been open, honest, forthright. He was indicted on nine counts of disseminating obscenity. It took the jury five minutes to acquit him. Still, his troubles aren't over. He's now being prosecuted on obscenity charges in the state of Utah. But Phil Harvey says he feels confident in both his legal and moral stand, even if some people believe he simply exploits one group of people to help another. Now you may wonder how the State Department feels about Phil Harvey. Well, we spoke with the agency that benefits from his work, and surprisingly, they had no idea what he did for a living. Phil?
