Tonight we have ahead of us a film from South America.
A co-production between Argentina and Uruguay called Patron the Boss.
Apart from the story which is a very effective and affecting melodrama, the Boss has a number
of things going for it.
The writer director Jorge Rocco from Argentina obviously had a very strong vision for his
film and working with cinematographer Daniel Rodriguez-Maceda and art director Enrique
Badana Dahl he has created the most exquisite looking film.
Every frame is a thing of beauty.
It's quite extraordinary.
Now I must warn you that after a brief prologue in colour the film switches to black and
white.
Don't adjust your televisions.
It's just as the director wanted it.
The other creative strength of the film is the music.
Lito Vital has composed a simply wonderful soundtrack.
Well enough of behind the scenes.
Later stage in front of camera are compelling performances from the lushly beautiful Valentina
Bassi and Walter Reno as the boss of the title and also note Leonor Manso as Delia.
I think you'll be engrossed and impressed the next hour and a half with Patron the Boss.
SBS advises that this program has been classified MA.
It contains sex scenes and adult themes.
Well you see what I mean.
It is a very beautiful film to look at.
Unusual to turn a cinematic convention on its head by presenting the past in colour
at the beginning and then going to black and white for the rest of the film in the present.
That black and white cinematography was mouthwateringly beautiful.
