maybe linked to a previous homicide

first in our news evening roadblocks in a northeast city neighborhood remain the
most visible sign that police continue to search
for the killer of two rochester fifteen-year-old boys this week
you're looking at a roadblock rpd officer set up at hudson and wilkins street
tonight half a block away from this intersection
a home invasion ended in a deadly double shooting tuesday damari shaw
and brent coli were killed
in a wilkins street home with several others
when the home was invaded by the government investigators recovered a
large amount of cocaine
and cash from the house police say the boys
led a high-risk life
now also new information today
police say that damari shaw was on a witness list for a high-profile murder
case from last year
police say shaw had information in the deadly attack
on community activist james slater
a man is being charged with shooting and robbing slater last october on
barron street
his death triggered the rpd response known as zero tolerance
the monroe county d-a's office
says it has no information that
officially links the killings of slater
and shaw and coli
rochester police say tuesday's killings
of two teenagers happened inside a known drug house this leaves many wondering
why this house wasn't shut down before this violence happened our news
mckadine talked with city and police officials and found out that shutting
down these houses is not an easy process
this whole street from one end to the other needs to be cleaned up
that's how many residents in the three hundred block of wilkins street feel
following the fatal shooting of two teens at a suspected drug house
tuesday night
and it's too much drug activity it's too much other stuff that's going on and shouldn't
be going on
but actually shutting down a drug house is an involved process that can take up
to several months
police say they first have to buy drugs at the suspected house
on two separate occasions
then a warrant is needed to search the property
and depending upon the outcome of that search
will seize drugs and make arrests
and that whole continuum from the first buy to the
seizure and arrest goes into
the ability to further prosecute people
in the criminal realm and take other action in the civil realm
marquardt says hundreds of drug warrants are executed in the city every year
once those warrants are served the legal process is set into motion
city attorney tom richard says the majority of drug houses are rental
properties the city action is taken against the landlord
sufficiently meet the standard the proof standard
we can issue an order that requires you to vacate the property
and that's what we do
in some cases we've acted particularly if where we felt there was some
imminent danger to safety we can actually go to court
and vacate the property even quicker
334 wilkins street may now be vacant because of the police investigation
into the shootings
but neighbors say living on wilkins isn't any easier
when you're dealing with drug dealers
you don't know you know that you're taking a chance on your life by you
telling these people you got to go you got to move

monroe county sheriff's deputies arrested a fairport teenager on
burglary counts authorities say sixteen-year-old austin angle
admitted to a burglary last month on hogan road investigators then linked
angle to two more burglaries on the same street
angle admitted to those as well he was arraigned in parent and town court
and released from jail and twenty five hundred dollars cash bail
well no applesauce but an eighteen-wheeler carrying apples did
overturn on a downtown rochester expressway
it jackknifed on the bend of four ninety just east before goodman luckily it
happened after the morning rush at around ten a m
it shut down traffic there till lunch time
the new jersey rig also did not crash into any other vehicles the truck driver
was not hurt but state troopers cited him for speeding over the douglas anthony
bridge
where the speed limit is forty miles per hour
yesterday our genie settled with new york state over a dispute regarding
major upgrades at russell station
today the public had a chance to speak out on the utilities proposed sale to a
foreign company
at a public hearing at the rundown library customers voice their concerns
with energy east argenies parent company
proposed sale to spanish company eberdola
eberdola would spend four point six billion dollars to take over energy
east holdings
the sale would impact three million customers from upstate new york to maine
eberdola is known for its emphasis on wind energy
the spanish company is a world-class supplier
uh... they also apparently
have the technology to be able to produce
in the desired to produce green i mean europe is certainly far ahead of
rochester
the u.s. and anything that can be done to produce power
greener manner i mean
the planet survival depends on it
they're coming in and they're buying up all of these small
smaller companies which are pretty good size to start with

they're
locking them down
taking them over
now you have a company that's selling wind energy
who is also going to be in control
of all of the energy

national average price for regular on leaded gasoline has jumped five cents in
the past two days to three dollars

break from the active weather for at least a couple of days sunday and monday

half of the weekend

that will feature a milder trend
right now we are fairly quiet still some of that nuisance lake effect snow
trying to hang on
but it is rapidly winding down and i think much of the night is going to be
quiet look at the snow down here to the south that is actually going to work
northward
and that is going to spell a little accumulation in our forecast tomorrow
this will actually begin to unfold for us
overnight probably after two or three o'clock in the morning we'll begin to
see some light snow spread in and while it isn't going to amount to a whole lot
it's not going to be a big deal by any means
there certainly will be enough around to create a lot of slippery travel first
thing tomorrow morning generally about one to three inches of accumulation is
expected
uh... area wide out of this there will be some slightly lower amounts though
uh... up towards the lakeshore northwestern roe county over through
orleans and niagara
seven a m that widespread light snow will be going on for us so you might
want to give yourself a little extra time look at this by four o'clock in the

as another low pressure moves by to the south that too is going to produce very

overturn on a downtown rochester expressway
it jackknifed on the bend of four ninety just east before goodman luckily it
happened after the morning rush at around ten a.m.
it shut down traffic there till lunchtime
the new jersey rig also did not crash into any other vehicles the truck driver
was not hurt but state troopers cited him for speeding over the douglas anthony
bridge
where the speed limit is forty miles per hour
the labor department cited a kayuga county recycling plant for twenty two
safety violations this comes after a worker there died at auburn metal
processing last november
the employee was caught in a conveyor belt osha investigators found sixteen
serious violations and six repeat violations
it all adds up to more than forty four thousand dollars in fines the plant has
fifteen business days to request an informal conference with osha
or contest the citations and fines before a review board

morton was known to most around the track as the voice passed away suddenly

uh... amount of the lowest accumulations most likely will come in
right up near the lake ontario shoreline
this system actually the bulk of it will come through tomorrow morning and by
four o'clock in the afternoon look what happens it moves out we're down to a
couple flurries here and there tomorrow night outside of a stray flurry or two
looks pretty quiet
then saturday morning another little batch of nuisance light snow will move
through trace to an inch out of that and by sunday that moves out and sunday
monday
temperatures do look to improve quite a bit though it's not going to be warm
will be closer to forty that's better
for sunday and again on monday tomorrow still in that cold weather though twenty
five to thirty periods of snow tapering off afternoon

a lot of teams have a good group of players but the reds think their team

in the locker room we have a lot of fun
singing and dancing and stuff like that

last year the newark girls team went to states and despite losing junior forward
chiquis de wulfo for the tournament they are still among the favorites in
class a
i'm really fortunate diane and i teach in the same school and work side by side
so we get to talk basketball all day
she's done an outstanding job
the boys have done a job i think we feed off each other a little bit
the boys and the girls really get along together
both teams have to battle through the toughest tournaments in the section
for the boys that includes batavia and defending champion
aquinas it was certainly an exciting time for everybody in newark what the
girls did last year
and maybe you know one game at a time we can see if we can't do the same

florida panthers hockey star richard zednik is alive today thanks to some fast
medical attention

zednik had his neck accidentally slashed
in a game almost two weeks ago by a teammate skate

zednik says he knew he was in serious trouble and got himself off the ice fast

temperatures start to improve a little this weekend nothing too grand as
expected in the temperature department over the next few days but
by saturday and sunday we will be talking about highs well into the thirties
friday it looks like twenties will be about all week in muster saturday
probably low thirties and then it will get
a little better than that as we head through sunday and into early next week
and overall pattern change is one that's coming our way
that will feature a milder trend
right now we are fairly quiet still some of that nuisance lake effect snow
trying to hang on
but it is rapidly winding down and i think much of the night is going to be
quiet look at the snow down here to the south that is actually going to work
northward
and that is going to spell a little accumulation in our forecast tomorrow
this will actually begin to unfold for us
overnight probably after two or three o'clock in the morning we'll begin to
see some light snow spread in and while it isn't going to amount to a whole lot
it's not going to be a big deal by any means
there certainly will be enough around to create a lot of slippery travel first
thing tomorrow morning generally about one to three inches of accumulation is
expected
area wide out of this there will be some slightly lower amounts though
uh... up towards the lake shore northwest Monroe county over to orleans
and niagara
seven a m that widespread light snow will be going on for us so you might
want to give yourself a little extra time look at this by four o'clock in the
afternoon it begins to move out nothing more than a couple of flurries left over
then as we head into saturday will probably see a touch more snow develop
as another low pressure moves by to the south that too is going to produce very
very little accumulation force
snowfall wise it looks like beyond saturday though the weather pattern
will quiet down for at least a couple of days sunday and monday and of course
temperatures will improve as i mentioned
forecast accumulations
now through seven a m a little minor cumes up near the lake shore
uh... towards parma and uh... hamlin in
monroe county and also that northern corridor
of wane county as well uh... one to three inches of accumulation from the
lake effect everyone else much of the night will be quiet we'll put this in a
motion now
notice how those accumulations begin to build a little bit here in the city of
rochester by seven p m tomorrow evening
uh... about one to three inches and that covers all the counties that are shaded
in white with lower amounts again out here towards albion, barry
and niagara falls temperatures tonight fifteen to twenty light snow late
uh... moving in and we'll find periods of snow tomorrow steady south of five
and twenty
uh... touch of snow on saturday thirty two then a little milder sunday monday
