Here at Anaheim Stadium Tim Ryan with Dan Jiggits we welcome those of you joining us here in the waning minutes of this game five minutes fifty five seconds still to play in regulation time and the Phoenix Cardinals rolling over the Los Angeles Rams breaking open a very close game they now lead forty one to twenty sixty minutes we'll follow our football action except out here on the West Coast double against the Cardinals close to a first down on the completion of Michael Young from UCLA and the Rams go in the hurry up here they've got to make something happen real quickly to go to the get a score off Everett finds the tight end and Holohan has the first down on second and about a foot they needed on the last play and he moves the sticks to the forty one and they stay in the hurry up center Davis on the tackle Everett out for Bell on the screen gets his block Greg Bell out of bounds near midfield short of the first down by about two Rams open the scoring in this game on a touchdown by Greg Bell back early in the first period but here's what's happened since then Neil Lomax coming in passing at a 60 percent average for the season has had another hot day two touchdowns three hundred forty two yards Greg Bell for the Rams seventy two yards touchdown costly turnovers by the Rams ever has a man open down to the twenty two yard line of Phoenix Henry Ellard said one thing that strikes you about these this Ram offense today is they've had success moving the football but they always hurt themselves with a penalty a fumble whatever it takes to take them out of scoring position they've done it. Keeps it on rolling he's got his man Holohan in a 15 yard line Wayne Davis on the tackle and the Rams using their two minute offense here starting with more than five minutes left in and it has been effective. Rockley Bell bashing inside the 10 to the 8 yard line and when you get in that two minute offense you know that you've got a set number of players that you can run so you're not going to try to fool too many people with it you just keep running their success Everett the corner and that's over everybody Ellard the deep man there the coverage from Carl Carter number forty two yards twenty one and that stops the clock with four oh four remaining to play San Francisco on top of Detroit those of you who've been watching Miami see the Vikings have scored to get themselves on the board against the Dolphins I want to put that goose egg up there you know we had Jerry Brown's a couple of Jerry Burns the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings a few weeks ago and he told us that sometimes you never know which team is going to show up for the Vikings now the Dolphins still a team trying to get all of their pieces put back together having a good day against the Vikings who came in at three and one Everett it's his tight end to mow Johnson inside the five they'll spot it at the four yard line and the Rams take a timeout so we have three forty nine to go the Rams knocking on the door here trailing forty one to twenty to Phoenix Tim Ryan with Dan Jiggots at Anaheim we welcome those of you who have been watching the San Francisco game against Detroit the 49ers moved to four and one in the NFC West with their victory over Detroit and the Rams looked like they might wind up four and one came into this game at four and oh but trailing forty one to twenty here at Anaheim Stadium they are on the four yard line of Phoenix however with three fifty three still to play remember those Rams veterans are saying hey look let's not get carried away with the fact that we're four and we still got a lot of football to play and indeed they do every twenty five of thirty two and three hundred yards but he has fumbled twice and has hurt the Rams cause Bell stopped at the line of scrimmage hit by Lonnie Young and Tim McDonald the safeties and the loss of a yard on the play back to the five yard line there's been a combination apparently an offside against the Cardinals that's half the distance down there to take it back to the two yard line offside defense number twenty five still third down rolling Mitchell charged with the offside with the Cardinals you see how does somebody from the secondary get an offside well he's up on that line of scrimmage he knows they're going to try to jump over so he's just going to try to block it now what do the Rams do here the first time they scored down here they had success going off right tackle on the counter they're going to try to get the ball out of the plane there at the goal line driven out by the Cardinals Ricky Hundley and he got close to the goal line but not in you're going to see Greg Bell number forty two he's heading over to that left corner of the end zone now the key here to him scoring is not necessarily speaking in but it does he reach the ball inside the end zone and break the plane you see the legs sliding out just before he gets to the end zone and that's E.J. the third touchdown of the afternoon brings the Rams back a little closer with three twenty five still to play he slides off the left side of that offensive line they just power Tony Slayton and Greg Bell just high high hurdles over the line of scrimmage now here it is right down on the goal line watch Bell high hurdle down here on the goal line takes that nice long step and just goes into the end zone Mike Lansford will attempt the point after he last one but he gets that one reduced the margin forty one to twenty seven on the touchdown by Greg Bell seventy seven yards in tenth place he's using the hurry up offense pays off at the score by Bello as eighty two yards rushing on the day three touchdowns and a quick look at the rest of the NFL scoreboard the Giants beating Washington at the margin of a missed point after Jim Lowe Miller and Philadelphia beating Houston at home Cleveland and Pittsburgh that traditional matchup in the AFC Central grounds beating up on the Steelers the Bears over Buffalo today knocking them out of the unbeaten ranks look at those numbers for McMahon twenty twenty seven Tampa Bay over Green Bay by three and Indianapolis losing to New England despite a hundred yard day by Dickerson one hundred and thirteen to be exact Lutie at quarterback for New England today. Seattle over Atlanta thirty one to twenty John L Williams with three touchdowns Cincinnati whipping up on the Raiders up the freeway here at the Coliseum and Cincinnati will probably be the only unbeaten team after today. Kansas City and the Jets in a dogfight they're tied at 17 Denver over San Diego that's final and that's down the freeway just a bit as well there's that game that most people saw that San Francisco Detroit game 20 to 13 San Francisco taking that one. Miami over Minnesota 24 to 7 that's a real surprise so the Rams have got to find a way to get the ball right back and they're set up for the onside kick Lansford they'll do it again he had a lot of mustard on that one that looked like a fastball now looking at John Robinson to get his instructions for the second try. Rams trailing forty one to twenty seven and when our football activity has been completed this lineup is ahead tonight on CBS starts with 60 minutes and if you're tired of reruns well 60 minutes is a brand new story this week. Are you tired of John Lennon stories. Well wait let's see the one 60 minutes has with the two Mrs. Lennon's tonight on CBS that's followed by murder she wrote and the CBS Sunday movie cocoon starring Steve Guttenberg and Donna Michie and his Academy Award winning role that's a fun film all tonight on CBS following our NFL action Lansford will kick it off from five yards back at the 30 Rams have to get this football on the onside kick. But what Mike Lansford has to do is he has to get more bounce out of it put it up in the air give his people a chance to run under it. That's a pretty good one but it's handled well by Nova check they had the hands team as a column along that front. J. Nova checks got a bunch of passes today and he comes up with an important grab there on the kickoff so the Cardinals have the football 321 to play. Phoenix trying to get the three and two a surprising start Dan for Jean Stallings and the Cardinals newly ensconced in the desert. Well you know I think that they have really made the adjustments that they had to make in terms of coming into a new situation getting everyone settled in and that's really helped this team kind of calmed down after the move to Phoenix and get rolling and do the things they have to do to be a successful football team. Also the players talk to seem to be very happy. Not much of a game there be second and 10. Carl Eckern made the tackle and in the NFC East you can see the Giants with their victory on top of three and two at Phoenix goes on to win here they'll be in a tie Dallas plays tomorrow night they play New Orleans Washington losers today fall at two and three Philadelphia with their win pulls up to three and two. As we said earlier Dan I have a feeling this division might look like that the rest of the season all season everybody bouncing back and forth sure that's a tough division you take even Philadelphia they're tough well the Rams look like they're going to fall to four and one and the 49ers are already there New Orleans plays tomorrow night as we said Atlanta at the bottom one and four and of course this quarterback so that's a problem for them. Second down Farrell Farrell gets up gain of about close to 10 yards he'll be about a yard short of the first down we talked about the Cardinals settling into Phoenix guys still looking for houses and finding apartments and townhouses and so on and Clif Stout one of the men that's going to be in the game is going to be in the fourth and one and the 49ers are already there New Orleans plays tomorrow night as we said Atlanta at the bottom one and four and of course this quarterback so that's a problem many happy guys to be there he says in St. Louis we'd come out for a game and it was like we interrupted somebody's chess match so he thinks the enthusiasm of the of the spectators and the fans and in Phoenix who have welcomed the Cardinals with open arms is something that's certainly given this team a terrific well it helps when you win as well and they won their home game the first home game of the regular season yeah they might even adjust to those high prices we've been reading it has been a shootout at Anaheim Stadium the Cardinals leading the Rams 41 to 27 two minutes to play Tim Ryan with Dan Jigetson both of these teams averaging well over 300 yards a game through the first four games and they've topped that by considerable today yeah and every both offenses have been very effective almost 900 yards in total offense for both teams today that is incredible in a word Cardinals have the football and the lead in Rams territory flags fly Earl Farrell batters his way inside the 30 of Los Angeles Doug Regis popped across the line of scrimmage there a little early he's number 93 for the Rams defensive line Rams have really hurt themselves with penalties particularly in the second half after the Cardinals had a bunch of them in the first half but the miscues have been the 93 said offside 93 defense decline first down the Rams led this game early here's a look at those numbers that Dan was talking about 900 yards of offense there and the Rams scored first Greg Bell and then fell behind 10 7 at the end of the first quarter but the turnovers then turned the game around in favor of Phoenix three Rams turnovers to costly fumbles by Jim Everett the young quarterback who's otherwise had a fine day at the end of the half covered by Rod Sadler made the tackle grab the fumble and ran at 16 yards into the end zone giving him the 24 to 14 lead they have not looked back I want to say for a big guy he looked real good running it into he sure did big guy big guy I'm not sure that you would look as graceful as he did in the same situation it is now final in Miami big win for the Dolphins over Minnesota Miami moves up to two and three in the AFC East and Minnesota falls to three and two and that opens a little room for the Bears who moved to four and one and this game at Chase Stadium has gone into overtime Kansas City and the Jets at not a chase stadium they used to play a chase game on people in New York saying hey guy that's at the Meadowlands at the Meadowlands inside the 30 yard line that's the way he's been running all day long carrying blue shirt and Rams on his back I'll tell you this is one of those kind of guys they're all pros one of those guys that you know he rolls up his sleeves when he comes to work blocks for the running backs like stump Mitchell blocks for the quarterbacks like Neil Lomax when he gets his chance to carry the football he takes people with him and he brings his team up to another level because he plays with that instinctive at heart that's real special for some running backs 97 yards on the day for Farrell I wonder if anybody knows that they ought to try and get him back in and get his hunt don't you think don't you think so Farrell who had his first hundred yard game last week against Washington 108 yards and approaching it here but they've got him on the sidelines with 22 seconds left and they're just going to use up the clock here so the Phoenix Cardinals the fine performance here today both sides of the ball plenty of offense tough defense taking advantage of turnovers and they will move to a three and two mark at a time for the lead at least temporarily Stalings and Robinson with congratulations at center field here at Anaheim Stadium and we'll be back in just a moment. Phoenix 41 the Rams 27 a good win for the Cardinals and not too costly loss for the Rams for Dan Jiggets. This is Tim Ryan saying so long from Anaheim Stadium where the final score Phoenix 41 Los Angeles 27 CBS Sports coverage of NFL football has been a presentation of CBS Sports.
