When I'm running again, as long as you're in Iran, you're in jail. Bert Lancaster and Richard Craner stage the most daring rescue mission of our time on Wings of Eagles, an amazing true story, commencing 8.30 Monday on 10. There's always a lot to look out for on the road, especially at intersections. So as car drivers, we have to look out for the unexpected at all times. We have to look right, look left, look by. Many car drivers simply aren't as aware of motorbikes as they should be. That's why most drivers don't see bikes until it's too late. Expect the unexpected. Look right, look left, look by. Where can we go for a night out that's a little different? Well do you want great food? Yes. A really fun atmosphere? Oh yes. And top music from a terrific band? Yes. And what about a famous banjo player? Oh you mean Michael Banjo Young? That's right. Oh it sounds terrific, but where do we go? Banjo's Restaurant of course. Call now for a great night out. But you'd better be quick. Banjo's Restaurant, 3281788. I'm dialing. The It has been one of the surprises, the underdog Steelers leading the Cincinnati Bengals, 17-3 with a minute 21 remaining and Cincinnati facing a second and 10. Again, double wide receivers to either side, Tim McGee and to replace Collinsworth. Boomer again gets away from the rush and completes the pass for a first down to Eddie Brown. Merriweather finally pushed him out of bounds, but not before he got into Steeler territory close to the 40-yard line. A 24-yard gain, Boomer to Brown. Marvelous piece of running. I call this doing the boogaloo. Watch his size and now he's pressured all over, steps in the pocket, he's learned to do that very well. Now you're going to see a terrific piece of running here. Ooh, shake that way, another shake inside. Now he sees the out of bounds right there, he gets as much yardage as he can get and he gets out of bounds. Only Eddie Brown can do that. He shook Shane and Edwards right out of their shoes to get more yardage on the play. First and 10 from the Steelers, 40. A minute 11 remaining. Syenson on the swing pass, complete to Brooks. Brooks gets out of bounds after a 40-yard line, no gain on the play. Harvey Clayton with a good job that time after Brooks made the reception. You know Tom, I want to go back to the play with Collinsworth because Chuck Noll thinks you win football games by out hitting and out tackling the other guy. Knock him down. And he just put one of the great receivers in the game on the sidelines by just good, hard, clean football. There was nothing dirty about the hit by Sanchez. It was just a good, professional hit. Collinsworth taking some oxygen on the Cincinnati bench. The Bengals have it, second and nine. They gave him a yard in the last play. A minute two on the clock. Boomers, got a man wide open, complete for the first down, Kreider. Eric Williams was beaten on the play and Kreider took it out of bounds, close to the Steeler 10-yard line, another 25-yard gain. I think Cincinnati has awakened. There's nothing wrong with the way they run the football. They do that very well. Here comes a very courageous and determined Chris Collinsworth back into the football game. That's unbelievable. He couldn't walk off the field two plays ago. Unbelievable. Chris Collinsworth back in. The Bengals have it, first and ten from the Steeler 16-yard line. 56 seconds remaining in a half. Steeler's lead 17-3. Pitchberg's got it. Darrell Sims recovers the football and the Pitchberg defense again comes up with an amazing play to stop the Bengals. And with Isison being a left-hander, you never think about anything happening on the left side because Anthony Munoz, all world, operates over there. I can't tell from this angle where the hit comes from, but I can tell you one thing. It's from the right side of the defense, and that's the worst way to get it when you're looking one way. Now see, he doesn't even see Merriwether coming. When you get a blindside hit like that, Tom, you're going to get a fumble. Merriwether was the man that knocked it loose. The Steelers recover and they have it on the 25th of the first down and 49 seconds left. They'll just try to run the clock out here. Ernest Jackson's back in the game. They taped him up. He's back in. He carries to the 30. You see the clock ticking down to the 40-second mark. And on that play, that's not to imply that that was Anthony Munoz's responsibility because it could very well have been one of the bats who was assigned to Merriwether that should have picked him up. And the man who recovered the fumble, Darrell Sims, number 99. Number one draft choice a year ago. Disappointing, but makes a big play there. Fans don't like the fact that the Steelers will kill the clock, but Chuck Nolan and company do. They've played a tremendous first half. The clock ticks down. Still five seconds left, but they won't have to get a playoff. And there's the end of the first half of play. It's been a great hearse half for the Fitzberg Steelers who have been reeling all season long. They lead the Cincinnati Bengals 17-3. Reggie, offensively and defensively, they've been the much the best team here in the first half. They simply have just out-muscled the Cincinnati Bengals. They've been very physical from tackle to tackle. That's where they're making their presence felt. They're rushing the football and gaining control of the football game. And then when they have had to, they've allowed Malone to throw the quick passes as is evidenced by the touchdown pass to Weegee Thompson. And I think you'll agree that that's somewhat of a turn up so far in this match. And I don't think that Pittsburgh's defense was expected to be as strong as it has been. And quarterback Mark Malone is playing a rushing game to great effect. And we'll see if Boomer Esayeson can come up with a counter in just a moment. But first let me bring you up with some local news. Well, in a moment, we'll take you back to the Three Rivers Stadium to see if the partisan crowd there can carry the Steelers to a victory. The America's Cup. The history. The defence. Brought to you by Westpac on Network 10. The 10th America's Cup challenge in 1899 saw the legendary Sir Thomas Lipton enter the scene. His magnificent 40-metre yacht Shamrock was dismasted in the second race. But regardless of this, she was no match for the defender, Columbia. That series also saw history made, with Thomas Edison recording the racing using his newly invented motion picture camera. The first brief moving picture glimpse of these massive and stately yachts. When Australia won the right to challenge for the America's Cup, Westpac presented a gold spanner to help unbolt it from the New York Yacht Club. The rest is history. And now, as Australia prepares for the defence of the Cup, with the designs a reality, the sails cut and the crews chosen, Westpac is continuing their support in an even greater challenge to keep it bolted down under. Sanchez with a good return. Flag on the play. He brings it back to the 34 yard line before Ray Horton makes the tackle. Penalty marker down. Look at Sanchez. He delivered that hit a while ago to Chris Collingsworth, and it was phenomenal that Collingsworth could return to the game. He could barely walk off. Jim Tunney and crew deciphering the penalty. 34 yards. Here's Tunney's call. Holding offense during the return. Half the distance is the goal line. First down. So a first down for the Steelers after the penalty. This is the way the game began for Cincinnati. They were backed up by a penalty on the kickoff deep in their own territory. Pittsburgh held. They got a bad punt and went in to score. So let's see if Cincinnati can turn the tables. Thompson and Moses. From the nine yard line. Abercrombie breaks free across the 20 to the 23 yard line and a quick Steiner first down. 13 yard game. Well, I want to know what's going on in the middle of that offensive line as Abercrombie seems to be in some pain. Watch number 52. Mike Webster stands up Cromerai and as I thought Webster is doing the job on Cromerai. And if you control the nose tackle, you control the line of scrimmage. Gary Long did a good job blocking two from his right guard spot. Abercrombie apparently hurt his wrist. He goes out of the game. Aaron Berg is in to replace him. The give instead goes to Jackson. However, not much there as Jackson is hit right at the line of scrimmage. It'll bring up a second and long for the Steelers. Eddie Edwards, the defensive end at the bottom of the stack for the Bengals. Webster missed about four weeks with a dislocated elbow. They're working on Abercrombie up under the shoulder pad, which probably means some kind of shoulder problem. But Webster missed those four weeks and the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line was like a car without wheels. They just couldn't go anywhere. Webster's been to the Crow Bowl the last eight years, controlling the center of that line for the Steelers. Second and eighth, Pittsburgh. Malone's pass. Nice catch by Weegee Thompson. Coverage was good. Thompson made the grab. Breeden was right with him. And they're measuring for the first down. You see that it's short by about a foot. So it'll be third and less than a yard coming up for Mark Malone and his Steelers. Why is it that some teams are always good and others are always bad? A question for you to answer. There is a tradition, that's for sure. Yeah, I thought you turned that around for me. You're the expert in this deal. Well, we're watching one of the aristocrats of the 70s and early 80s in the Pittsburgh Steelers. And the Bengals are trying to take it away from them. Right now, the Steelers up 17-3. Just over 13 minutes to play in the third quarter. This is Jackson. And I believe he got the first down, but it came tough. Tim Cromry anchoring the defensive line from the nose tackle spot. Didn't allow him much of a game, but it was enough for a first down. Abercrombie has been patched up. He's back in the game. Once again, Mike Webster is doing a yeoman's job in the middle of the line. Number 52. Watch him. Gets off the ball quickly. Gets into the defensive lineman. And if you allow an offensive lineman to get into you and tie up your arms, you're helpless. First and 10 from the 35. And on the ground, the counterplay to Abercrombie. Daylight. Into Bengal territory down to the 45-yard line. A big hole up the middle. He rambled for 20 yards. I want to tell you, what you're seeing is a professional version of the wishbone. They aren't throwing the football. And no matter what Cincinnati does, they cannot stop this rushing attack. The most elementary play in all of football. Right up the middle, right up the gut. They're running the football down the Bengals' collective throats. And if they don't stop that play, the Bengals will not win this football game. Down to the 40-yard line on the carry, Ernest Jackson. When you're in a football game, there are a lot of one-on-one games within the game. And if you get somebody that you can handle, you tell the quarterback that first off. You say, look, I can beat this guy all day. Webster is doing it to crumb ride. Malone is listening. And Abercrombie and Jackson are benefiting from it. Jackson has gained 74 yards today. Abercrombie 77. Potent ground attack for the Steelers. They keep it on the ground. Jackson, again, behind good blocking, turns up shy of the 35. And I believe short of the first down, it'll be close. Camp and Zander combining on the stop for the Bengals. Third and one for the Steelers, who have converted six of seven third-down attempts in the game. Ehrenberg at a running back spot. Thompson is in motion. Jackson gets the pitch. Ehrenberg leads interference. Jackson has the first down. And the first try finally made the stop, but not before a first down run. They took it enough for first down yard. Agen, another Steeler shaking up. Inside, inside, inside. Then you toss the ball and you go around the outside. It's elementary strategy. The Bengals just can't do anything about it. And the Steelers have it at the 32 with the first down. This drive began on the Steeler nine. And the Crombe straight ahead to the 30. They've thrown only one pass in this long drive. Carl Zander made the stop. There's Ehrenberg on the Pittsburgh sideline. He was leading interference when he was injured. Most professional backs today have padding in that area, but the size and the strength of the defensive players today, sometimes that won't do you any good. It looks to have a knee right in his side and the foot and the body of Ron Simpkins. That's a very painful injury on the crest of the Ilium. Okay. Second and eighth from the 30. You know what that is, right? I'm afraid that's Malone to the air. Incomplete. Intended for Preston Gothard, the tight end, who is rarely used in the Pittsburgh offense, although Gothard has caught eight passes this year. That eight receptions more for the most for the tight end since 1983. Quarterback comparison so far today. Well, we know why Malone hasn't thrown the ball a great deal. He's only thrown it when he's had to. He has that bad thumb and I think he's protecting it. And besides, he's benefited from a terrific ground game led by all pro center Mike Webster. And hey, don't do what's working for you. That's rushing the football sites and breath to extra wide receivers in for the Steelers on third and eighth. They've been terrific on third down conversions. This one complete to Abercrombie, fumbled it out of bounds short of the first down at about the 25 yard line. Reggie Williams hitting Abercrombie. The ball went out of bounds. It'll belong to Pittsburgh just short of the 25. And so it'll bring Anderson onto the field. He is the all time NFL leader in field goal accuracy. He's hit 101 of 128. That's 78.9 percent. Only became familiar with pro football when he came to this country from South Africa the first time he enrolled at Syracuse. This one a 43 yard attempt. And it's good. The Steelers take the ball from their nine. They get a field goal from Anderson to extend their lead to 20 to three. They give him a head like Mr. T in no time. And the Ronson's got this trimmer for sideburns. Ah, that works. But the best bit is it's German, just like a posh. Rrrrummmmm. That's why Ronson can guarantee them for three years. It'll be around when I start shaving. Maybe I'll give you my Rolling Stones albums instead. Where can we go for a night out that's a little different? Well, do you want great food? Yes. A really fun atmosphere? Oh, yes. And top music from a terrific band? Yes. What about a famous banjo player? Oh, you mean Michael Banjo Young? That's right. Oh, it sounds terrific. But where do we go? Banjo's Restaurant, of course. Call now for a great night out. But you'd better be quick. Banjo's Restaurant, 328178. I'm dialing. Hi, I'm Tracy Wickham, and I'm proud to be associated with Leisure Mutual, the all-Australian pool company. Thanks, Tracy. We have a special offer for the next 40 pool buyers. A heated family-sized pool, salt chlorination and tax paid for just $9,695. How about you? Final at Leisure Mutual. There you see the two opposing coaches and a little shred of animosity between those two. Going back to a handshake incident, right? Yes. Sam and Chuck have exactly gotten along well lately. Chuck didn't shake hands after the game, and Sam Weiss not too pleased with it. McGee brings it for the Bengals back to the 22-yard line. Swain makes the stop there. Here come the Cincinnati Bengals now from their own 22-yard line with a first down. Brown is in motion. Brooks hit at the 20 and dropped at the 21. John Swain, the quarterback, came up in a hurry playing run all the way. And Willis, the defensive end, out there to assist. Down 17 points if the Cincinnati Bengals are going to get back into this football game. Of course they'll have to feature James Brooks, which they will, but they're going to have to begin to stretch this defense vertically. They're going to have to throw the football to Collinsworth and Eddie Brown. They are the home run people. They have to have the football to be effective. Brooks lost a yard in the play, second and 11. Play action pass. Boomer rolls in trouble. Heaves it downfield. He's got a man, Brooks. Taken down inside the 35-yard line by Mike Merriwether. There's Boomer. He hit the deck. He was knocked down after he let the pass go. It went for 41 yards as he let it fly downfield almost before he went out of bounds. He really did a good job of scrambling. Some of the Bengals didn't take too kindly the way they treated a Syson after he threw the football when he was out of bounds. And although I did not see a flag, there may have been one thrown. Let's watch it here as the Syson miraculously gets away from the pressure. Completed pass. Here's where a great arm comes into play. Number 93, roughing the quarterback, will be added to the run. First down. So Keith Willis has called for roughing the quarterback. Brooks making the reception. They'll tack the penalty on to the reception and give the Bengals excellent field position. A Syson. Boy, what a strong army shot us there. He can throw a marshmallow through a thunderstorm. They'll mark it down at the Pittsburgh 17-yard line where Cincinnati has a first down. There's big Keith Willis called for the penalty. Number 93. Brooks and Kennebrew slip backs behind Boomer. Brown in motion. Kennebrew. Hiding for yardage inside the 15, down to the 14. Brian Hinkle, the outside linebacker. David Little and inside backer, combining on the stop. That's the danger of that last play to Brooks. Tom is the danger of a Syson. One big pass play, one stroke of that big arm of his can put the team back into contention immediately. Kennebrew is a tough runner. He just takes people with him. Keeps the legs driving. Second and six from the 13. Once again, it's Kennebrew. Willis makes the stop. Keith Willis, 6'1", 255 pounds. Fired up by that penalty, perhaps. Let's watch the blocking ground level of the Cincinnati Bengals. You can see number 93, Willis, getting away from... He was almost blocked into the play, wasn't he? Yeah, quickness off the line of scrimmage, though. Willis is very good using his hands right at the point of attack. Stanford Jennings is in as Brooks goes out. Cincinnati, third and five. They have not converted a third down this afternoon. They're 0-4. Boomer. They're at the wrong way. Missed a mix-up in communications. The receivers broke to the inside. Boomer let it fly outside. The Sison had both Collinsworth and Stanford Jennings both breaking inside. One of the receivers should have broke to the outside. So once again, the Bengals will have to settle for a field goal attempt. Watch the last one. Now there's plenty of time. The protection is good. He's expecting one of the players to break to the outside. I can't tell you which one was supposed to, but it was a mistake. Breach has hit one earlier. He also had one block. This will be a 30-yard attempt. And it's no good. Breach misses from 30 yards. Sam Weiss can't believe it. And once again, the Steelers defense plays tough. And Pittsburgh holds on to the lead 20-3. All sorts of happy beings here at the Three Rivers Stadium this afternoon. Pittsburgh puts it in play from their own 20-yard line. Yigit Jackson again, good blocking in front of Jackson. He rambles down the sideline and take it out of bounds at midfield. Bobby Kemp ran him out of bounds. Why has that play been so effective today? Execution. The Pittsburgh Steelers are simply out-executing the Cincinnati Bengals. Watch it here. This is a pull. Once again, look at number 43, Ernest Jackson. Spot the daylight, break to the outside. He has good vision in the hole. That one went for 30 yards and it gives Jackson 113 for the day, his first 100-yard rushing game as a Steeler. He gets it again. And he's down to the 45-to-the-44-yard line. The running game continues to click for the Steelers. And hasn't their defense been something? Cincinnati has penetrated the Steeler 24 times, but only have three points to show for it. If you're Cincinnati, this is how you get a bad reputation. Other teams see this game film and they say, well, the Cincinnati Bengals cannot stop the rushing attack. And until they do right here, I'm sure Chuck Noll and Mark Malone are going to continue to call those same plays until Cincinnati finds a way to stop it. Five yards in the last game for Jackson, 118 for him on the day, second and five for Pittsburgh. Jackson again. They're working him. He takes it down to the 40. He'll be close to the first down. It'll be third and one for Pittsburgh. They've converted seven of nine this afternoon. Play action pass. Malone's got a man wide open. Gothard, the tight end, falls forward close to the 25-yard line in a Pittsburgh first down of 15-yard game. Gothard with his ninth reception of the season, and that's the most for a tight end since 1983. Preston Gothard, free agent from Alabama a year ago. The Steelers waved Benny Cunningham earlier this year and gave the job to Gothard. And there's the ebullient Mark Malone just very happy about being back in the lineup. First down from the 26, four minutes remaining in the third quarter. Pittsburgh up 20-3. Abercrombie not much there this time, stopped right at the line of scrimmage. Tom Hammond and Reggie Rucker, Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh. The Steelers leading the Bengals 20-3 with three minutes 42 seconds to play in the third quarter. And the Steelers driving at the Bengal 26 with a second and ten. Malone with a bullet. He goes incomplete at the ten intended for Weegee Thompson with Louis Breeden covering on the play. That was one of the few times that Malone has had pressure in his face, had to get rid of the ball quickly because Reggie Williams, number 57, was coming from the outside and Malone didn't want to get that thumb hit again. Warren Seitz, number 80. Jesse Britt, number 88. Enter the lineup for the Steelers as you watch that last pass by Malone. You can see that right hand of Malone being dangled about very carelessly. He keeps it protected. You can see he keeps it up. That right thumb kept him out of two games. He's had an excellent performance today, third and ten. Scream pass, complete to Abercrombie. They couldn't get the block they wanted though and he stopped for a gain of about three yards on the play. Louis Breeden made the stop. That was a duel between two number 34s. Abercrombie made a good move but Louis Breeden made an excellent open field tackle. So the Steelers unable to convert that third down attempt and Gary Anderson is on to try the field goal. Malone saw that one go awry and Anderson will try. He's hit 80% here at Three Rivers. This one from 41 yards. Gary Anderson strikes again. That's been a missing part of the Steeler offense. They've not been able to get him in field goal range. He's a potent weapon but only now are they starting to get him in the game and get that potent leg unleashed. Well in previous games so many times they had been so far behind that Gary Anderson wasn't needed or it would have been foolish to bring him out there. Pittsburgh leading 23 to 3. We saw on that last drive Mark Malone and that injured right thumb. He told us before the game that it hurts most to make a handoff. How would that be? Well when the quarterback places the ball into a runner's pocket as we say, he lays it against his body and then there's the clamp down by the runner and he puts that arm down. And these guys are so strong that that has to hurt the constant pounding of that thumb. Mark Malone despite the pain as the Steelers in front by 20 as the kickoff is taken by McGee who brings it back up to the 27 yard line. And the Steelers again go on defense. The Bengals have moved up and down the field offensively but are unable to get any points on the board. Only a field goal by a breach. Those are the thumbs of Mark Malone. The one on the right is the sprained thumb and on his right, right? Our left. I'm sorry. My other left. Couldn't see much difference there but it is noticeably swollen when you see it in person. Here's the swing pass to Brooks. The Steelers are ready for it. Takes it to the 28 yard line and John Swain pounds into the turf with David Little coming up to assist. And they'll come right at us as we watch the Bengal offense go to work. They need to get something on the board. 220 to play in the third. And now Pittsburgh knows that they need to get something started so now their defensive front can start disdaining the run and going right for the pass pocket because since he has to throw to get back into the game. See the clock approaching the two minute mark in the third quarter. And the Steelers on top. 23-3. Pressure. Boomer lets it go. Intended for Brown and almost intercepted by Dave Edwards. That one hung up a little too long and Edwards had a good chance to pick it off. The Siasons should have put some zing on that football. He laid that up there a little too long. Too much air under it. Gave the defensive back a chance to get underneath the play. That's Edwards. Should have had the interception had that been Donnie Shale. I promise you he would have made that interception. It got in behind Clayton but Edwards the safety coming to help out. Meanwhile the Siasons went down after he delivered the ball. Cincinnati has not converted a third down all afternoon. They're 0-5. Third and eight right here. Flags down. Boomer's got his man for a first down. Complete to Collinsworth. He knew right where that first down marker was. He went a yard beyond it. Took the pass. Went out of bounds. Keith Gehry. One of the defensive ends trying to stay with him and the flags down. It appeared that one of the Steelers might have jumped offside but perhaps got back. It was Gehry that jumped offside. That's what it was. Defense offside is declined. First down. So it'll be a first down for Cincinnati as they decline the penalty and take the reception to Collinsworth. Back to the Pittsburgh injuries. Rich Ehrenberg who was injured a moment ago is out for the remainder of the game. You know the hallmark of the Steelers over the years has been a strong defense and a good rushing attack. It's amazing what a good running game can do to make the defense look good. Right now it's Cincinnati with a first down. They keep it on the ground to Brooks. He's chased. Gets away from one man. Nice cut up the field by Brooks to midfield. Swain finally takes him down. It looked like he would be stopped for no gain. Instead he turned it into a 12 yard carry. Sometimes when you watch James Brooks you'll lull to sleep because of that hesitating motion that he has. Now watch him here. He stutter steps right there. Then now watch him just disappear right up the middle of the gut and he's just off to the races almost. That's a saving tackle by John Swain number 26. Timothy Charles Jr. Has come home today. After 18 years missing in action a young man's body is returned home. He was lucky to have you for a dad. If he was so damn lucky how come he's so damn dead. Jonathan Smith helps his father come to terms. You know most people wouldn't know an angel if he came up and sat down right next to him. And helps a community remember. There are some things that shouldn't be forgotten. Highway to Heaven. And some people who mustn't be forgotten. 7.30 Friday on 10. Australia certainly is a different place these days. They reckon that there are over 100 different languages in use. And people can't help bringing bits of their former culture with them. We older Aussies might even benefit if we're prepared to grow along with the newer ones. What we need is bridge builders. Let's stand each other off with a sign of peace. Bridge builders who have those special qualities of regard for one another. Who acknowledge the presence of brothers and sisters from other religions. Who can appreciate migrants for what they have to offer. And who recognize the essential unity of humanity. For the Bengals at midfield we've seen Cincinnati move the ball up and down the field but unable to convert it to points. Actually the ball at the 49 of Pittsburgh for this first down play. Brooks is in motion. See if Boomer goes to it. Intended deep for Brooks. Over shot the market almost intercepted by Clayton. Clayton gave him plenty of cushion that time and he almost made the interception. We've got a flag on the play. It's like it's a penalty going to be against Pittsburgh. It will indeed. So the Bengals get a break and that'll keep their drive going. One of the things you have to learn as a pass receiver is if you can't catch the football, don't let the defense catch it. You saw James Brooks make a transition from offense to defense instantly just then. Illegal contact. Number 33 defense. Five yards and a first down. Harvey Clayton has called for the penalty. He doesn't like the call. He's going to argue his case. It has been a nightmare season for Harvey Clayton. Almost every team goes right at him. That time he made a pretty good play but was called for the penalty. Well the penalty had to occur early on because he was running stride for stride down the field with Brooks when we saw it. Twenty eight seconds to play in the third quarter. Pittsburgh leading twenty three three Bengals at the forty four with the first down. Boomer across the middle floats it up. And is it good to see the ball still flying loose. They're going to market. What a completed pass. Holman made the catch though he was juggling it. Hinkle pounded him to the turf. They'll call it complete for twenty nine yards. This is what you like about his size and he has the great arm for the deep grow yet he has that gorgeously soft touch for a pass that's required like this. Over the middle. What a catch by Rodney Holman. Well you see the fans didn't like it as they saw the replay here at Three Rivers Stadium. They thought it was a juggled catch and should have not been ruled complete. And I expect that we're going to review the play upstairs on that one. Boomer today as you see that the Bengals have not done so well on their penetrations today. Boomer has hit twelve and nineteen two hundred four yards. Watch that replay. It appears he has the football right there and when he touches the ground. And after review the play stands so they did review it upstairs. It was reviewed by Joe Gardi the replay official and he said let it stand. So Cincinnati has it with a first down at the Steelers 17. Fans again get into it. Thirty seconds remaining third quarter. Boomer in trouble. Incomplete intended for Collinsworth who almost made a circus catch. John Swain defending Collinsworth on the play. Twenty four seconds the clock stops. It'll be second down coming up from the 17. Rodney Holman made the catch a moment ago on that disputed play and he thought he had it all the way. But in today's pro football you can't celebrate until after the instant replay official has ruled. They may call that back. In that case the celebration was good. Second and ten for the Bengals from the 17 at Pittsburgh. 23 to 3. 24 seconds remaining third quarter. Boomer pumps for the end zone. He's got a man wide open. Brown. Did he get it? They say incomplete. He did not get both feet in the end zone. Wide open but the pass carried him a little too far and the officials really did not get both feet in bounds. Here we go. We can bet we're going to get a replay officials rolling on this one. Oh it's hard to tell from there. We'll have to get a back line view of that. No they will tell you anything. I don't know. John Swain was beaten on the play. Boomer having a little chat as they look at him. He's pointing upstairs. Yeah they're checking it upstairs. Isn't it amazing how astute these players become about the rules and the idiosyncrasies of the game. They're actually sitting down there waiting for some guy who... Alright take another look at it. I don't know if we can give you a definitive look from this angle. One in and did he get the toe down in bounds or not? That's what's hard to tell from that angle. You'd almost have to be right on the end zone and line in order to see it and I should point out that there were two officials right at that spot. Upon further review the play stands as called on the field. It'll be third down. So you heard the ruling after reviewing it. The replay official says it stands. No catch. No touchdown. It'll be third down for the Bengals. Watch Max Montoya number 65 hit but Mike Murrayweather keeping him away from Isaiasin. Not bad for a man who's a homemade Mexican chef. Reggie knows all about the eating habits of the Bengal organization. Third down Cincinnati from a 17. Third and 10. Premature movement. Was it the Bengals drawing the Steelers off or did the Steelers come too soon? Ball start. Number 63. Still third down. Joe Walter was called for the false start getting the starting assignment today at right tackle over Brian Blados and did the crowd have something to do with that as well? No question about it. The Bengals still cannot hear. They couldn't hear any audibles if Isaiasin wanted to change the play. They become such an integral part of the game when you're having a crowd that's as vocal as the Steelers fans are today. Left corner of your screen. There's Walter with the movement. The Steelers catch it and come across to make contact. Illegal procedures and tonight it's third and 15. The ball placed on the Steeler 22. Same deal Tom. Can't hear. Remember this happened earlier in the game in the first half and it took them four or five times before they could ever get the cadence called. And the Bengals still didn't all break off the ball at the same time and it cost them a potential touchdown. And sometimes Tom you develop a rhythm in a series. You know you're hot. You know you're going well. And the crowd fractures that. They don't allow you to come out and run that play while you're hot. They know what they're doing. That's why a crowd like this that's as knowledgeable as these fans are. They can be so important to a football team. And they know when to do it. They don't do this when the offense is on the field because the offense has to hear. And on cue here they go again. 16 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Cincinnati trailing by 20 points with a third and 15 from the 22 at Pittsburgh. McGee is in motion. The Sia's in its interceptor. No one dropped. Brian Hankel had it all by himself in his hands and he dropped it. And Boomer went down. Boomer is shaken up on the play. Let's pick up what happened on the replay. He's holding his ribs. Boomer can hear them all around him. Joe Walters got Willis. Someone hits him from the outside. I can't see who that is. That's Keith. Gary gives him a rib shot. And that's probably the most tender and exposed area of the anatomy for a quarterback. Even though I know the Sia's is wearing rib case protectors. You can see the rib pads sort of like a flak jacket or apparatus under his ribs. And Ken Anderson is the veteran backup quarterback for the Bengals. The 16 year veteran from Augustana who has been one of the great quarterbacks in NFL history. And should Boomer be out of the game it would be Anderson that would come on. So once again the Bengals have been inside the 24 times with only a field goal to show for. There's Anderson on the sideline. He's going to warm up so far in his career. 196 touchdowns and he's completed nearly 60% of his passes. On his feet and walking off, Will Morris-Ierson. He has yet to lose to the Steelers. As a starter he's 3-0 against Pittsburgh. But down by 20 here with 11 seconds remaining in the third quarter. And on fourth and 15 Jim Breach will try a 40 yard field goal. Breach has had one blocked. He made one and he missed one. Maybe time for a fake. Between the 40 and 40-90s hit two. And it's good. So Jim Breach gets a field goal for the Bengals who poke closer to Pittsburgh. Six seconds remaining in third quarter. It's 23-6. Pittsburgh holding a 23-6 lead after the field goal by Breach. Breach to kick off for Cincinnati. Sanchez fields it at the 10. Got the good bounce. Takes it to the 30 to the 33 yard line where he has finally stopped. He got a good bounce. He fumbled the ball and it came right back to him. And he takes it upfield before he's stopped by John Simmons. So that's the end of the third quarter with a score. Pittsburgh 23 Cincinnati 6. We'll be right back after these messages from your local station. We'll be right back. Tuesday the A-Team are set for a quick getaway. No, don't fly! Until B.A. throws a splatter in the works. The fourth quarter begins at Three Rivers with Boomer Esiason trying to shake off the cobwebs after taking a shot on the last series in the ribs. And is over there apparently alright. We'll see if he returns when Cincinnati gets the ball back. Right now, Pittsburgh will put it in play from its own 32-yard line. And through three quarters, the Steeders have dominated the statistics, at least for the rushing yardage. But in total yards, surprisingly, they trail. From the 32, first down for Mark Malone and company, 50,815 on hand at Three Rivers. As the Steeders look for their first home victory, second win of the year. One of the Bengals apparently was offside as Abercrombie gets the call and takes it straight ahead for four yards. David Fulcher would come up to the line of scrimmage. Might have come across the neutral zone too soon. Which would be five yards against Cincinnati. Offside, defense number 73, penalty accepted. Five yards, still first down. And they call it on Eddie Edwards for being offside. You've heard pro football coaches say many, many times, the most important down is first down. Pittsburgh has proved that today. They have consistently won on first down, gaining four, five, and six yards. It makes second down easier to call. And as you saw from the third quarter stats, it's been on the ground. The Steeders have been very effective. This time they get nothing on the ground as Jackson is hit. With Carl Zander leading the attack. It'll bring up a second down and not much gain on the play. Well, Mark Malone has done a great job today playing with that injured right thumb. And before today's contest, Reggie Rucker asked Mark Malone about the thumb and how it would affect his play. Well, it is a little bit painful, the drawing aspect of getting the ball from center. The biggest problem really is handing the ball off. Sometimes the running backs clamp down on the ball pretty hard and you get your thumb caught in there. And that's been the most painful thing through the last period of a week in practice. As far as the shotgun goes, you know, Chuck has never been a big fan of the shotgun. We have yet to use it, so I doubt that we're going to see it at all today. And they haven't used the shotgun all afternoon. They haven't needed to because the ground game has worked so well. But not much on that handoff to Abercrombie. And it brings up third and four for the Steelers. And you watch Malone. A lot of his handoffs will be what we call backing out. He will turn and he will face the runner so he can see what he's doing and keep that thumb and hand out of the way. Eighty-eight, Brent. Eighty sites. Two extra wide receivers in the game on third and four. Sweeney in motion. Malone swings the pass complete to Abercrombie. With blockers, he's got it to midfield and into Bengal territory. And a Steeler first down. Jimmy Turner and Barney Bussey in on the nickel defense making the stop. But they've been effective on those swing passes to the backside of the backfield. Cincinnati is totally off balance. I don't know what they're looking for, but everything they're looking for, Malone is doing just the opposite. They thought they would rush Malone just in. Malone had the perfect play on, the little flat pass. Abercrombie takes it on the run and then he turns a little pass into a big game. Abercrombie made a nice fingertip catch. He is the fifth leading receiver on this. Steeler team. Here's it to the other side. This time, just as I bragged on, he dropped one. Well, I don't think pro football teams do that enough, Tom. If you have success with the... They do that too much. If you have success one way with the play, come back and call the play the other way. And then come back and do it the same way you had success with. They seem to think that because it worked the last time, it won't work again. I don't think that's true. And it looked like he had some running room had he caught the ball. He says, oh man. He said, oh, completion. Those have been scares for him. He can use every one of them. He's played well today. Second and 10, Pittsburgh at the 48-yard line of Cincinnati. 12 and a half minutes remaining in the game and Pittsburgh leading 23-6. Malone goes deep and complete. Flag on the play. The flag thrown right back at the line of scrimmage. Gothered was the intended receiver. Here's Jim Tunney. It'll be a hold against Pittsburgh. Ron Blackledge there in the center has done a good job with his offensive line. The father of Kansas City quarterback Todd Blackledge. Holding 34, offense is declined. Third down. Declined the penalty and set up the third down. Third and 10. Abercrombie was guilty of the hold. It would be unwise for Pittsburgh at this point to put the ball up for grabs. I think they'll play it conservatively. They've been successful with the swing passes to the backs out of the backfield and the traps up the middle. Let's see what they do. Nine of 12. Third down. Malone has time. One of the receivers fell down and the ball off the mark intended for the other one. Sweeney I guess that was the intended receiver. Although Warren Seitz was in the area too but had fallen down.
