Howdy folks, I'm Vince Moss, and this is my sister Valerie. On this video, you're going to learn six of the most popular Texas line dances, including the latest craze, Achey Breaky Heart. If you get lost, don't worry, we'll slow it down later. Let's go ahead and get started. Right swivel, right swivel, right swivel, right swivel. Heel, toe, step and turn, toe, knee, toe, knee. Step, behind, step, plant, toe, knee, toe, knee. Step, behind, step, plant, swivel, swivel, swivel, and swivel. Heel, toe, toe, turn, toe, knee, toe, knee. Step, behind, step, plant, toe, knee, toe, knee. Step, behind, step, plant. Now that you've learned the steps to the Texas Twist, we've invited some of our beginning students to join us as we put it all together with Joe Carr and the Lone Star Band. Take it away, Joe. Now, let's review. To begin with, I want you to understand that we're going to face four different directions before we're finished with this dance. We're going to start with what we call swivel steps. I want you to keep the balls of your feet on the ground and let your heels do the work. What you're going to do is swing your heels out to the right and then back into the center. We'll do this four times. After you've finished your swivel steps, we're going to do a heel with the right foot and then we're going to touch to the left. Then we're going to do a step out on the right and do a quarter turn to the left. Step out on your right and bring your knee up. Then we're going to repeat that, right and the knee up. Then we're going to do what we call a grapevine. It's a step behind, step, plant. Then we're going to repeat this going the other direction, toe, knee, toe, knee. Then a grapevine to the left, step, behind, step, plant. Then we begin the sequence again, repeating this over and over until we've gone all the way around the room or until the music has ended. We do our four swivel steps, then we do our heel, toe, step out on the right, do a quarter turn to the left. Do a toe, knee, repeat that, toe, knee, grapevine right, step, behind, step, plant. Do the same thing again with the left foot, toe, knee, toe, knee. Turn to the left, step, behind, step, plant. Now let's learn the Texas slide. Right behind, right, kick, left behind, left, kick, back, two, three, kick, step, toe, step, kick, step, turn, right behind, right, kick, left behind, left, kick, back, two, three, kick, step, toe, step, kick, step, turn, right behind, right, kick, left behind, left, kick, two, three, kick, step, toe, step, kick, step, turn, right behind, right, kick, left behind, left, kick, back, two, three, kick, step, toe, step, kick, step, turn, right behind, study the steps and then try dancing along. Don't worry if you make mistakes. Our dancers are beginners just like you. Have some fun. Now let's review the Texas slide. The Texas slide is done with a series of grapevines. We're going to start by doing a grapevine to the right and then we're going to go back doing a grapevine to the left. A grapevine is a step behind, step, kick. Then we will take three steps back, kick with our left foot, step up on our left foot, touch your right toe behind, kick up with your left foot again, step out on the left and do a quarter of a turn to the left. Then begin again. Do a grapevine to the right, grapevine to the left, three steps back, one, two, three, kick with your left leg, step up, do your toe, step back, do one more kick, step and do a quarter of a turn, start over again. Repeat the pattern until you've gone all the way around the room or until the music has ended. Now let's try the slew foot stomp. Squeeze, heel, step behind, step, plant, squeeze, heel, step behind, step, plant, heel, touch, heel, touch, squeeze, squeeze, step, step, step and scuff, step, step, step, scuff and turn, squeeze, heel, step behind, step, plant, squeeze, heel, step behind, step, plant, heel, squeeze, squeeze, step, step, step and scuff, step, step, step, scuff, turn. Now let's try it with the band. Let's try it with the band. Let's try it with the band. Let's try it with the band. Let's try it with the band. Let's try it with the band. Let's try it with the band. Let's try it with the band. Let's try it with the band. Now let's review. To begin with, we're going to start with a squeeze step. Keep the balls of your feet on the ground and take your heels out, bringing them back together. Then we're going to do a heel with our right foot, a right grapevine, stepping behind with the left foot and stomping. Now we're going to repeat that. Do another squeeze and do a heel on your left foot. Do a grapevine to the left, stepping behind on your right. Now swing that right foot out. Swing the left foot out. Now do another squeeze with both feet. One more time. Now walk three steps, starting with your right foot and do a scuff with the left and bring your knee up. Take three more steps, starting with your left foot. Do a scuff turn with your right. This next stance is a lot of fun and we do it with our partner. Be sure and pay close attention to the slap steps in front and behind in this stance. Once you master these, the hard part's over. To begin with, we're going to do two grapevines. Guys, let me do your steps first. Left, behind, left, kick, right, behind, right, slap in front, touch it side, slap in back. Do a swivel to the left, swivel to the right, then do a two-step, starting with your right foot, then the left foot, then the right foot. Then we'll repeat this sequence over. Now let's do the ladies part. Ladies, you're going to do a grapevine to the right to begin with. Right, behind, right, kick, left, behind, left, slap in front, touch it side, slap in back, swivel to the left, swivel to the right, and do a two-step beginning with your left foot, ladies, then your right, and one more with your left. Now let's give it a try. Now let's review the Continental Cowboy. Begin with, we're going to do two grapevines. Gentlemen, you're going to go to the left. Ladies, you're going to go to the right. Step, behind, step, kick. Now come back together. Step, behind, step, now slap your feet in front, touch out to the side, and slap your heels together in the back. You have to be careful here or you'll lose your balance. Now we're going to swivel to the left, then swivel to the right with our heels. We'll only do that twice, and then we'll begin a two-step. Gentlemen, you'll start with your right foot, ladies, with your left. Step, touch, step, touch. Then we'll repeat this sequence. Be careful on this stance that you don't hurt your ankles. This step is really fun once you get the hang of it. Squeeze, squeeze, step, kick, and touch. Heel, toe, heel, step, heel, toe, heel, step, step, kick, and touch. Step, turn, one, two, three, out, in. Squeeze, squeeze, step, kick, and touch. Heel, toe, heel, step, heel, toe, heel, step, step, kick, and touch. Step, turn, one, two, three, out, in. Squeeze, squeeze, step, kick, and touch. Heel, toe, heel, step, heel, toe, heel, step, step, kick, and touch. Step, kick, one, two, three, out, in. Squeeze, squeeze, step, kick, and touch. Heel, toe, heel, step, heel, toe, heel, step, step, kick, and touch. Step, kick, one, two, three, out, in. Now let's try it with the band. So so now let's take a close-up look at the quad hop. Squeeze once, squeeze twice. Now we're going to do a Charleston step. Step out on your left, kick with your right, step back on your right, and touch with your left. Now we're going to do two heels on the left, two heels on the right, another Charleston step, step, kick, and touch. Do a step, do a karate kick, step over and rock, back and rock, step over and rock, touch out with your left, and come back together. Squeeze, squeeze, Charleston step, kick, and touch, heel, toe, heel, step, heel, toe, heel, step, another Charleston, kick, and touch, step, do a karate kick, rock, back and rock, out and back together. We want to thank Joe Carr and the Lone Star Band for his great music from his new album, Let's Go Dancing Down in Texas. Now here's a song that's not on the album and we think you'll really like it. We're going to learn the popular Anky Breaky Heart. We also invited our intermediate dance students to join us to demonstrate this very fun dance. Don't worry, we'll slow it way down for you later. Here we go. We're going to start with the right grapevine. What we're going to do is step out on the right, behind with the left, again on the right, and stomp that left foot. Shake it three times, left, right, and then left. We're going to turn three quarters of the way around with four different points with our right foot. Take two steps back, starting with your left foot, kick that left foot, turn another quarter, and take four more steps back. Then we're going to stomp that left foot again and shake it three more times, left, right, and left. Now we're going to do our stomp and turn. We'll begin with our left foot and then our right foot. Now we're going to do another grapevine to the right with a stomp and a clap. Now we're going to begin the sequence again doing a grapevine stomp, shake it three times with the left, right, and left. Now we're going to do our three quarters of turn. One, two, three, four. Take two steps back beginning with the left foot, kick that left knee up, turn one more quarter, and take four steps back beginning with your left foot. Stomp your left foot, shake it three more times, left, right, and left. Now for our stomp steps. We're going to do a left stomp, right stomp, right grapevine, right, behind, right, and plant. Now we're going to begin the sequence again with another grapevine. Shake it three times, left, right, and left. Three quarters of a turn with four points with your right foot. Now two steps back starting with your left, kick that left foot up, turn one more quarter, and take four steps back starting with your left. Stomp that left foot, shake it three times. One, two, and three. Do your stomps with your left foot, then your right foot, do a grapevine to the right, right, behind, right, and stomp. Now we begin the sequence again with a grapevine to the right, stomp, shake it three times. Now we're going to do our three quarter of a turn. One, two, three, four. Two steps back starting with the left, kick that left knee up, turn one more quarter, take four steps back starting with your left. Stomp the left foot, shake three more times, left, right, and left. Do your stomp steps with the left foot stomp, right foot stomp, and then a right grapevine, right, behind, right, and stomp. Now let's try it with the band. Back onto the farm. You can tell my feet hit the floor. You can tell my lips. You can tell my fingertips. They won't be reaching out for you no more. Don't tell my heart. My achy, breaky heart. I just don't think and understand. If you tell my heart. My achy, breaky heart. You might blow up and kill this man. You can tell your mom I moved to Parkinson. You can tell your dog to bite my leg. Tell your brother, Cleo, he's pissed until my leg. He'll never even like me anyway. Or tell your employees, do anything you please. Myself already knows you're not okay. Or you can tell my eyes. They're watching for my mind. They might be walking L.O.B. today. Don't tell my heart. My achy, breaky heart. I just don't think and understand. And if you tell my heart. My achy, breaky heart. He might blow up and kill this man. Don't tell my heart. My achy, breaky heart. I just don't think and understand. And if you tell my heart. My achy, breaky heart. He might blow up and kill this man. Don't tell my heart. My achy, breaky heart. I just don't think and understand. And if you tell my heart. My achy, breaky heart. He might blow up and kill this man. Don't tell my heart. My achy, breaky heart. Now let's slow these steps down. What we're going to begin with is a grapevine to the right and we're going to finish it with a stomp. We're going to do a right, behind, right, and then stomp that left foot. Now we're going to shake it three times. We're going to do a left hip, right hip, and then a left hip. Now we're going to turn three quarters of the way around. I want you to take that right foot, step behind to the side, turn to the side one more time, and finish it with one more quarter turn with that right foot out. Put your weight on that right foot. Now let's take two steps back starting with your left. Kick that knee up with your left foot, turn one more quarter, and take four steps back starting with your left foot. When you finish this sequence, you're going to stomp that left foot in place. Now we're going to do three more shakes. Left, right, and then left. Now we're going to start our stomp steps with our left foot. Take that left foot out and stomp in front, then bring it back. Now take your right foot out and do the same thing. Stomp in front, bring it back. Now let's do a grapevine to the right, right behind, right, and then stomp that left foot, and you've completed that sequence. Now we're ready to start over with another grapevine. We're going to stomp that foot and shake it three times, doing a left, right, and then left. Now we're ready to do our three quarters a turn. Step behind, to the side, to the side one more time, and finish it turning around to the front. Put your weight over there onto your right leg, take two steps back, and kick that left knee up. We're going to turn another quarter of a turn back and take four steps back this time, starting with your left foot. When we finish this sequence, we're going to stomp our left foot beside our right. Now we're ready to shake three more times, left, right, left. Now we're ready for our stomp steps. Take that left foot out, stomp it in front, and bring it back. Take that right foot out, stomp it out to the front, and then bring it back towards your left. Now we're ready to start the grapevine again. Step, behind, step, and then stomp. Keep repeating this sequence until you've completed the music or the dance. Thanks for joining us on this tape. We had a great time. Y'all go out and have fun.
