We'll get to those stories in just a minute, but first, it's hot out there. KSNT StormTrack Meteorologist Christina Reese has been watching the temperatures all day. And Christina, what can we expect for the start of our work week? Actually, a pretty nice start to the work week, but we are tracking some showers and storms for right now. Now Northeast Kansas, pretty dry, but we turn our attention to the west and this is the line of showers that we are tracking throughout the course of the night tonight. You can see it's starting to take a little bit of a slight southeast turn. So if they do hold up and the energy and moisture sticks around, we could see some isolated to scattered storms, particularly to the south of I-70 tonight. But otherwise, it's going to be warm at 71 degrees for our low tonight, but still muggy. Humidity sticks around as well. But a completely different story from what we saw last week and that will continue through this week and I'll let you know in the details coming up. Thanks, Christina. With the Democratic National Convention starting in less than 24 hours, delegates from Kansas have already left for Philadelphia. New at 10, KSNT News' Tom Wynick found out what one Kansas delegate can expect at this year's DNC. Kansas Democrats are making the transition from this building here at 700 Southwest Jackson to this building, the Wells Fargo Center, the site of the Democratic National Convention for three days. Kansas delegates who are going will face challenges even before they get to the convention. They're not cheap. This one is ridiculously expensive. Wagnon tells me hotels were so pricey, she went for an Airbnb. If it's so expensive, why go? I want to go and cast my vote for Hillary. Wagnon's vote for party nominee will be cast on this convention floor later this week. This convention won't be the first time Wagnon will be voting as a delegate. In 2012, she was on this convention floor voting for President Obama. I've been a lifelong Democrat and never ever thought that I would get to go to a political convention. But since she is going again, Wagnon is old hat at the convention process, from the speakers to the voting to the security lines. That newness won't be there. Despite that, this year's convention will still be special for Wagnon. Not only will Wagnon see Hillary Clinton give her speech, she will see 31 other people at the podium, including former President Bill Clinton, Senator Bernie Sanders, and President Barack Obama. I hope they're going to be telling a story about what's important to the country. But for Wagnon, her time in Philadelphia will be all about Hillary Clinton, about to make history. I'm looking forward not only to being on the floor when they nominate a woman for president, but also spending time with my family. In Topeka, Tom Wannick, KSNT News. The convention will end on July 28th, and KSNT News has been bringing you the latest on the race for the White House. And we continue our coverage this week when the Democratic National Convention kicks off in Philadelphia. KSNT News' political analyst, Dr. Bob Beatty, will be reporting from the floor of the Wells Fargo Center. And Hillary Clinton's family will play a big role at the Democratic convention, as Sunlee Safadi reports Bill Clinton and Chelsea will have prime speaking slots. After the Trump family's star turn at the Republican convention, Hillary Clinton is getting ready to deploy her family assets this week. She's the best changemaker I've ever known. With former President Bill Clinton and Chelsea Clinton both set to deliver high profile speeches in Philadelphia. I don't think I've ever had the chance to vote for someone as qualified as my mom. That's a role they've been playing on the campaign trail. My mom, dad and I are in three different states. The Clinton family fanning out across the country, where Donald Trump has been a frequent target. At some point you also have to say, what are you going to do? You can't just spend all your time saying everything everybody else did was wrong. And they were all doofuses. The racism, the sexism, the homophobia, the Islamophobia, the anti-immigrant rhetoric, the anti-workers' rights rhetoric, the rhetoric against Americans with disabilities. I mean the list just goes on and on and on. Bill Clinton is writing his own speech for his Tuesday night address, where mission number one could be firing up the base after the fracture primary. You have a chance not only to bring a long primary season to the close by giving Hillary a victory and sending her on to a united convention, but to begin the general election. The former president is beloved by Democrats and an effective messenger, giving a standout address at the 2012 Democratic convention, making the case for re-electing President Obama. I want to nominate a man who's cool on the outside, but who burns for America on the inside. But after Ivanka Trump's introduction of her father. My father and our next president, Donald J. Trump. Chelsea Clinton's speech on Thursday might be just as anticipated, setting off a faceoff among friends. She's been a great friend to me, I've been a great friend to her. I love Ivanka and I just am so grateful to be her friend and I'm grateful that I know she feels the same about me. Chelsea has made early childhood education and women's rights a focus on the campaign trail. What matters most to me now as a mom myself is that my mom has been fighting for making progress on issues that really matter to me. She recently gave birth to her second child, which has helped her mother reveal her softer side. I've talked so much about being a grandmother, now I'm sure I'm going to be talking doubly about being a grandmother. A Lawrence man shot and wounded by police more than two years ago was found guilty on charges leveled against him. 26-year-old Zachary James Ortiz was convicted on Friday on one count of aggravated assault on a police officer. The Lawrence Journal World is reporting it all started June 23, 2014, when Ortiz refused to put down a shotgun he aimed at Officer Skyler Richardson. Richardson fired his gun and wounded Ortiz. That shooting was later found to be justified. Ortiz will appear again in court on August 26. And still ahead, cycling family style. See how one Midwest family is focused on the finish line of a 400 mile bike ride. I'm KSNT StormTrack Meteorologist Christina Reese and it's a gorgeous night out there. Some showers and storms were around earlier this morning, but they have cleared out and it's a gorgeous view outside of Junction City right now. Quite a few people out there still walking the park. My hunch is they're looking for Pokemon as it is a Pokestop, but it's a great night to do so and just walk around. Temperatures not half bad right here. Temperatures that are a little bit different throughout the area. 73 in Hiawatha, 70 in Marysville, but as you track to the south, 82 in Burlington and 84 in Emporia, that's because of the cold front that swang through earlier. And that played a factor in our heat index as well. Less humid air is up further north and that's why they're not feeling quite as hot. Look at that. Emporia still feels like it's 93 outside right now. You can see that with the dew points right now, the lighter greens indicate less humid air as you're traveling across northeast Kansas to the southeast. You'll see that the greens get darker and darker and it's becoming more muggy out there. So some of us will be a little bit on the muggy side for sleeping weather. Now satellite radar though not showing much to indicate that cold front. It did have some showers associated with it earlier, but otherwise we're clearing out nicely now. We are tracking some potential showers and storms later on this evening due to this line of showers that have now inched their way into western Kansas. And we'll track that out hour by hour for you with future track. You can see it's struggling a little bit in terms of how strong these showers are and the nice line. It's a little bit more broken by 1030 tonight, but as we work our way through the evening, it's just mostly to the southeast, but we can't rule out the chance for some of those showers lingering on the edge of the northeast Kansas, primarily to the south of I-70. So if any of these showers do hold up or any develop due to the instability, it will be for the southern counties. Otherwise, a mix of sun and clouds around noon and then we dry out nicely throughout the course of tomorrow. So shaping up to be pretty nice for tomorrow. Now our KS&T storm track seven day forecast shows that things do start to change. It's a different picture than what we saw last week. Showers and storms throughout the majority. We can't rule out the chances that we'll continue tracking that for you each day, but temperatures no more triple digits for the next several days, much more seasonal. And that means it's going to be great to get out and enjoy the weather and send us some of your pictures. Great shot of the sun rises this morning, a little darker from Larry Fisher due to an incoming thunderstorm and then a beautiful view to end the day from Angie Irvine out in Milford. Well, I definitely love those photos. Well, thank you so much, Christina. And next at 10, a Midwest family is taking a long ride across the state to help their son with autism. See the difference 400 miles can make. The please. What? Well, that is interesting. Yes. Therefore. It's here, now through August 31st, the Off the Wall Invoice Sale at Laird-Nuller Ford. When President Obama and Hillary Clinton broke the law and lied to the American people, Hulscamp spoke out and fought against their lawlessness. We need a real conservative like Tim Hulscamp to oppose illegal amnesty, build the wall and protect our borders, and crush the threat of radical Islamic terrorism. Never silent, never compromising. Tim Hulscamp for Congress. I'm Tim Hulscamp and I approve this message. It's the second busiest shopping season of the year and it doesn't circle around any major holiday. That's right, it's back to school season and Kansans might be spending just a little bit more on their children for supplies this upcoming semester. The National Retail Federation's annual survey found the total spending for K-12 and college is expected to reach nearly $76 billion. That's up from last year's $68 billion. The survey also says that families will be shopping a little bit earlier as well. Confidence in the economy is one of the reasons parents will be coughing up a little more cash. I think so, because especially if you're a single parent and everything, having that extra dollar does go the extra mile sometimes. In the years following the recession, people are looking to spend more freely. And with the kids being out of school and the sunlight stretching into the 9 o'clock hour, families are out more during the summer. And one Midwest family has found a way to stay active and competitive while still having fun. WQAD has the story. Getting last minute miles in before the big ride. We turned wide. As soon as the weather was barely nice enough, we would be out in coats and snowboarders. We would be out in coats and snow pants and things, riding, building up our miles. You got it clipped? Good job. For Richard Clark and his two sons, Aaron and Zachary, riding in the Rag Bride has been a family tradition. I've done three straight years of this already. And I'm only nine. I'm only nine years old. Starting when they were one. Their whole lives they've been riding. It's a seven day ride that takes bicyclists along the Mississippi River in Iowa. Riding in the Rag Bride is going to be extremely hard. We're ending in Mouseketeen. But riding in the Rag Bride has provided more than memories for the family. Aaron, diagnosed with autism, has trouble with his social skills. Riding takes away some of that nervousness. It gives him a great opportunity to put his energy out there and be able to be contained and focused on riding and not worry about the social interactions because a lot of the interactions happen in passing. Leaving him with only one thing to worry about. The 420 mile ride. I want to do a challenge. Some days are very hard, some days are easy. The Rag Bride Race started today and ends on July 30th. The small town of Hugo, Colorado can drink the water again. The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office canceled its water advisory after samples taken from a damaged well came back negative for THC. That's the main chemical in marijuana that gives people the feeling of being high. Of 10 samples taken during a routine drug screening Thursday, 6 came back positive for THC. The Hugo Public Works Department then discovered signs of tampering in the town's well system. The residents were told not to use their tap water and bottled water was made available. Colorado's Bureau of Investigation announced yesterday it's now safe to, quote, resume any and all water activities. Meanwhile, a criminal investigation into well tampering is ongoing. And coming up next at 10, the Royals try to break out of their slump and take the series against the Rangers. Plus, Sporting KC is flipping for joy. Zaldi will tell you why after the break. Tim Hulscamp opposed Paul Ryan's conservative budget, same as Pelosi. He voted with Democrats more often than nearly all other Republicans, refusing to work with conservatives on the Ag Committee. Hulscamp even voted with Obama against national security funding. Mr. Hulscamp from Kansas expressed his concerns that is generally shared by the Obama administration. Tim Hulscamp isn't working for Kansas. It may be hot now, but when it cools down, you'll be glad you called Patio Pool and Fireside today to schedule your pool closing. Be sure to see Loop Lock Pool Covers at Patio Pool and Fireside while you're scheduling your pool closing. Patio Pool and Fireside, Hinton and Oakley, Topeka. It was the last day of June. The Royals beat the Cardinals to take the I-70 series. That was the last time they won a series. You know what? Maybe that'll change in their series finale with Texas today. Kendry's morale is sure hope so. And you know what? He does something about it. He goes deep to left field in the fourth inning, and once again the Royals strike first. But once again, the Rangers respond in the sixth with a man on third. Mitch Morland beats the shift, and he drives the runner home. We're knotted up at one. So we move to the seventh. Delino Deshields, who nearly hit a home run earlier this game. He did not miss this time. He takes Lucoche Radeep. Rangers take the lead. So let's go to the bottom of the ninth. Christian Colon has a runner in scoring position. Royals down one. Buddy hits a soft grounder to the catcher, and he gets thrown out. And that is your ball game. Kansas City falls to Texas 2-1. The Royals drop to below 500 for the first time since mid-May. And they hope to turn the round when they open up a three-game set with the Angels. Now yesterday I reported a story about Chicago White Sox pitcher Chris Sale being sent home right before his start after a clubhouse incident. One in which involved the All-Star destroying the throwback uniforms the team was going to wear before their game against Detroit because he did not like them. And today the White Sox announced that the pitcher has been suspended five games for his actions. Sale has one of the best records in the American League sporting a 14-3 cent this season. Tying for first in the AL and wins, and he is also fifth in strikeouts. The White Sox did end up beating Detroit today in their series finale to take the series. One of them has the most beautiful swing of all time. The other one is one of the best catchers to step up to and behind the plate. Both of them were sworn into baseball immortality. Ken Griffey Jr. and Mike Piazza became the newest members of the Baseball Hall of Fame earlier today. The former Mariners and Mets players took the stage in Cooperstown to be inducted. Piazza goes into the class with the most home runs for any catcher in MLB history with 427. He also adds 12 All-Star seasons with 10 Silver Slugger awards. While Jr. was known for his backwards cap personality and signature swing, he belted 630 home runs in 22 seasons. He's also the first Mariner and the first number one draft pick to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Here's what they had to say about the honor. We players share our love of baseball with millions of fans. That love bridges generations, impact lives, and helps heal wounds. I want to thank you all for sharing this with me. I stand up here humbled and overwhelmed. The last couple months have been a blur. From the call from the hall to the calls from all the Hall of Famers that are sitting here behind me. I can't describe how that feels, but I can tell you that I was more nervous talking to them than I am now. Griffey ended the speech in the most junior way possible, and that is of course putting on a backwards cap. Congrats to both of them. To some soccer, sporting is needing to get back on track. They want to make a late playoff push. Today they hosted Clint Dempsey and the Seattle Sounders. A good start for sporting Kansas City in the 21st minute. SKC on the attack, Roger Espinosa with the cross, and Don Dwyer is there to head it in. When you get a Dwyer goal, you get a Dwyer flip. Let's look at that goal again as Dwyer just stuck it behind the D and just simply headed in for the first goal of the game. So we go later in the first, right before halftime, Jacob Peterson with the one touch, and he gets it on the left corner of the goal. Man, that was just absolutely gorgeous. Sporting strikes again, two-nil, it was so gorgeous. We're going to look at it again. Peterson was just cool, calm, and collected with that goal. He was so precise, he knocked the camera out and the left side of the goal. But then in the second, Dwyer was not done. He intercepts a pass. Don't really know who that pass is going to, but he nets his second goal today. That puts the game out of reach. Sporting wins it by a score of three-nil. Up next is a matchup with the Portland Timbers next Sunday. Well, you know, I got to be totally honest. It was kind of a nice day to be out watching soccer. You know, and it's been so hot over the last couple of days. I don't know if it would have been nice, but today was the day. Christina, what can people expect over the next couple of days? Today was the start of the pretty nice next summer days. Now, you'll have to be dodging some showers and storms, but they look to be pretty scattered as of right now. But we'll keep tracking that for you through each day. Temperatures not have bad either back towards our average. Oh, good. Yeah, I'm looking forward to those Fridays 88. 88 degrees. They're good all day. Well, thanks so much for watching KSNT News at 10. Have a great night.
