Thanks for joining us here this evening. Freeman Health Live, first alert, top of the radar, showing the last of the thunderstorms now still in the area, starting to push off toward the east a bit. The cold front right on its heels is shoving all of these storms east of us and will leave us with a fairly quiet night, although it may not be completely rain free for a couple of reasons, and I'll show that in my full forecast coming up. In the meantime, the impact of that front, or more so the storms, definitely being felt. You have low 70s out there. Even areas that didn't get rain today, you're still a few degrees lower than they were yesterday. It's just the start. We have cooler temperatures on tap, especially at night. We're talking 60s widespread. A couple areas may get close to the upper 50s. It's possible. It just depends on the moisture in the air. That's the only thing that's going to be keeping that from happening. So, as we head into tomorrow's storm chance to stay with us, we'll be tracking that in your forecast. Coming up, KSN Local News at 6 starts now. Good evening and thanks so much for joining us. I'm Jessica Shearer with first the governor and then lieutenant governor changing faces in Missouri. A lot of question and a lot of attention is focused on filling elected positions that go vacant. Now the rules for appointing county level replacements is changing. Missouri House Bill 1428 sets the procedure starting with county commissioners, and in most cases, they now must appoint a temporary replacement for an officeholder within two weeks, with the governor making the ultimate decision. It hasn't been long since Jasper County was in this kind of situation with the former county prosecutor leaving to become a judge. Then Governor Jay Nixon appointed Teresa Kenney a few days after the job became vacant, but not without a certain amount of uncertainty. And we didn't know if it was going to be the then Democrat Governor Jay Nixon who would make the appointment before he left office, or if he would wait and see who was going to be elected governor and let the incoming governor make the choice. The new law addresses positions like county commissioner, clerk, or recorder of deeds, but excludes the prosecutor and other positions associated with the court. The goal is to make sure a job does not stay open for weeks and weeks. The city of Webb City gets the official go-ahead for a $3 million wastewater facility upgrade. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has approved a plan to overhaul the city wastewater treatment plant. The project has been in development for five years, a lengthy effort to find a more affordable option than the traditional method of reducing the amount of zinc in the plant's discharge. The current estimate on sludge removal, if we had to remove all the sludge in our lagoons right now, it's about $6 million. Webb City is currently in the bidding process and hopes to have the changes in place and in operation by October. Construction on a downtown Joplin site is the latest step to clear the way for a proposed project worth millions of dollars. Crews are clearing lots just north of the Missouri Job Center at 8th and Wall. The space is destined, designed, that is to be a new parking lot, part of a trade with the city of Joplin to make the parking lot across the street available for a proposed cultural arts center. The current construction has been designed to protect a ginkgo tree, which has been on site for many years. The city of Neosho is seeing a lot of road construction and will continue to see more throughout the summer. KSN's Ashley Godwin joins us now in our studio. Ashley, some of these projects are expected, but some motorists will need to make and use alternate routes. Right, some of this construction is years in the making, like the seven-year plan, which allows seven years to repave or fix any and all roads in the city limits of Neosho. But some projects, like the South Street bridge construction, will cause some traffic adjustments in the months to come. Basically, there's no street that doesn't need attention, some more than others. Motorists driving in Neosho have seen quite a bit of road construction lately. A modot currently is going through town on the state highways. In 1986, there's changes that are being made to medians, and then as well as that, when you come on into town, sidewalk projects that are going on. And residents will continue to see construction throughout the summer. As a part of the seven-year plan, the city of Neosho hopes to repave all city streets by the end of the next seven years. This year we have 19 streets that are set up either for new asphalt paving or ceiling. And a new development, the South Street bridge will soon be closed down to fix the bumps when entering and exiting the bridge. There was some subpar construction on the approaches on both ends, and so somehow those have settled. And so we'll close that bridge, I think for about 20 days. We'll tear out the roadway on each side of the bridge, install concrete so we have a smooth transition for traffic. Number one would be safety of our citizens, which is always a priority, and of course less wear and tear on vehicles, which just translates to more money that we can keep in our pockets. And the residential road pavings and the South Street bridge construction are scheduled to start within the next month or so. They'll take about how long? About 20 days. All right, Ashley, thanks so much for that update. Well, McDonald County has been added to the banned list for feeding deer. Placing food or minerals for deer is now prohibited in an effort to prevent deer from coming into the area that's infected with chronic wasting disease, or CWD. CWD is the deformity of a certain protein that breaks down the brain and eventually kills the animal. Only deer are susceptible to the condition, though. The most recent case was found within 15 miles of McDonald County in Arkansas, and conservationists are trying to delay the spread of CWD into Missouri. This is all in an effort to prevent artificially concentrating deer at any time of the year. So the current regulation now states that you can't feed deer throughout the entire season. Previously it was just during the hunting season, now it's the entire season. The Missouri Department of Conservation will be testing all deer in McDonald County for CWD during hunting season. There are currently 48 counties in Missouri under the deer feeding restrictions. Coming up, road work will soon be underway at a busy intersection in Monette, the addition is to help keep traffic flowing in the area. Crews are set to begin work to improve a busy Monat intersection. The project to improve the intersection of Highway 60 and 37 will begin Monday, July 9th. The Missouri Department of Transportation is in charge of the project and crews will be adding a right turn lane and an additional through lane to eastbound 60. The cost of the project is $665,000 and it's being split 50-50 by the City of Monat and MoDOT. Work is expected to be finished in two months, weather permitting. A Southwest Missouri housing project is nearing completion. Some people have already moved into the Plymouth Landing Complex in Monat. The 39-unit housing complex used low-income housing tax credits to offset development costs. In exchange, the majority of the units offer subsidized housing. Developers say they've been pleased by demand for the units. Monat city leaders say the hope is this will at least partially help address the need for housing in the town. They say currently more than 50% of the town's workforce drives to Monat. The history of Southwest Missouri community is being used to inspire the future. Tonight, KSN's Jeremiah Cook shows us how one man is helping bring the past to the future, one brush stroke at a time. Rain-Claude Felder is far from new at this. We're up to about 177 pieces of art. About 60% of those have been these giant mural walls. Along the way, he's become known as America's muralist. His work has taken him across the nation, helping towns along the way preserve their heritage. When we finish up with this one, we're on our way to Marmot, North Dakota, Baker, Montana, St. Charles, Missouri, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and one here in Branson. Most recently, he's been working in Monat. He's been painting a 20-foot tall by 70-foot wide mural at the corner of Fifth and Broadway. It's showing a variety of things that picture moments from Monat's past. Monat Main Street president Jeff Meredith says the mural is part of a much larger effort to bring youth to downtown. Every little thing we can do to make Monat a better place to come, especially the downtown quarter. And help preserve a part of the town's story. You have the old Gilroy's Theater. You have planes that are reminiscent of some of the old guard who used to fly their planes around and do loop-de-loos and things. But Claude Felder says this isn't just about preserving the history of Monat. It's also about passing on his passion to the next generation. We have had the art teacher here this past week and I've had some art students stop by as well. It's great to be able to pass this on. In Monat, Jeremiah Cook, KSN, local news. Claude Felder wrapped up his work on the Monat mural today. And you can see all of his work through a link that we have provided you on FourStatesHomePage.com. A semi-dry day to finish up that painting. Chief Meteorologist Matt Posgai joins us with a look at our forecast. Hopefully he got it done before those showers moved on in. Yeah, and they moved in and they stuck around for a little bit. We actually got a good inch and a quarter rain out of that at the Joplin Airport. I love it. We needed it. We do need that rain. And hopefully it didn't have too much runoff out there. But that's likely going to be the case when we end up with some heavy rain after a period of dry weather. The Almanac today shows temperatures made a jump at 89. But see that low of 69? Can you guess when that was? That was... No, that was actually a good guess. It was right after the rain moved in. That just happened like a couple hours ago. So we'll have cooler weather though tonight. You may not believe it. Full Forecaster here. You won't believe your eyes. Welcome back to the KSN Storm Center. We had some storms here today and we still have a few of those ongoing out across our eastern counties. So let's take a look outside with our tower can. This brought to you by the Stables Casino showing that cloudy sky there and a little bit of dark cloud cover out and about. For the most part, we're actually going to end up seeing these clouds stick around for a while, but not forever. I mean, this is actually going to be kind of a one day wonder when it comes to the storms because all of these were right ahead of a cold front and that front has now arrived and it's pushed across half of the area. So as we take a look at our radar here, Freeman Health Live First Alert Doppler radar still showing a few of those showers and even a few weak thunderstorms around Bella Vista. Also southward there toward Rogers. Springfield actually got a pretty good dumping of rainfall and it's because a thunderstorm well ahead of that main line popped up and sat on top of them. That cold front, the cold front driven storms here have yet to reach Springfield. So it's very interesting. But there is some light rain still falling around Stockton, around Boulevard and also off to the south there toward Ash Grove. We have a few showers well to the east here of I-49 over toward Mount Vernon and Aurora and then also a few very small thunderstorms right on top of Gravet as well as Bella Vista. That is going to make for a soggy drive home here this evening if you're just now heading out or if you're doing some errands here this evening. The cold front itself has popped up all these thunderstorms along and ahead of it and it was the combination of that plus an old outflow boundary, a gust front from last night that was sitting across the area, mostly the cold front. That's what did the lion's share of the work. But right at that edge is where you saw all those storms popping up here today and then they just sweeped eastward across our area. Well, as we head into tonight you're going to notice that we just don't have much rain left. This is 7 p.m. and it's our futurecast model showing the showers clearing off to the east. But overnight we have the chance for a couple of very small showers and storms to move in and across the four states here. They'd be very weak if we saw any but they're still there, which means we have to have a rain chance for some of those showers and storms. Otherwise it'll clear out toward morning. That said, it's going to be a very tricky forecast for tomorrow because the morning hours we may end up with some patchy fog or some drizzle depending on the atmosphere. So it's going to be very hard to tell just exactly how warm it'll get tomorrow because it's going to determine, excuse me, it'll depend on how quickly the clouds clear out and it can be very tough to try to track that this time of the year. So in terms of the rainfall totals, not difficult to track this. This is definitely all set in stone here for Joplin. We've had a little more than an inch and a quarter of rainfall and that is much needed rain here for us. It'll help us to catch up to where we need to be this time of the year. Almost two inches of rainfall in Springfield and the front hasn't even hit them yet. So that was just from pop-up storms today. But you can see the impact of the temperatures. Now behind the cold front you'd think that we'd all be much cooler. Well, you're a few degrees cooler. Chanu, you didn't get any rain but you're down to 83. It's not cool but it's definitely less hot. I mean we've had upper 80s and lower 90s at about this time earlier this week. So it is definitely a change. We have 71 here in Joplin. That is amazing for a June evening. Well, here's the cold front. And you can see the wind barbs here coming out southeast, from the southeast here in Joplin. That's just because it's from the storm, it's pushing to the wind to the northwest. The cold front itself has been held up a little bit up above the ground and even at the ground by those storms. But it's going to sweep across the rest of us here later tonight. So it won't have too much resistance from there. Wind speeds are pretty light as well, but that's where the cold front is right now. Overnight your forecast from the local weather authority calling for a couple of showers and storms. It's a slim chance and most of it will be to the north of I-44. But for the most part it's going to be much cooler. We're talking lows tomorrow morning around 63. And then tomorrow, again, tricky forecast. And it's because of the morning cloud cover. If the clouds clear out fast, we'll end up with low 80s. That's about as warm as I expect us to get though. And that's with lots and lots of sunshine. The atmosphere above us, much cooler. You will notice a difference out there with that temperature and with the cold front having pushed through. So over the next few days, low 80s through Friday. And Friday is also another tricky day. You might have just from the rain today, a little bit of Apache morning fog or low cloud cover that will have to wait to clear out before we warm up. So it's going to be a little tricky there. Either way, Friday is going to be dry throughout the day. That's pretty much guaranteed. And then Friday night, Saturday night, Sunday night, we have lines of thunderstorms that will try to push through as they form off the Rockies and then move east. And then after that, we go into another hot dry stretch for the middle part of next week, early and middle next week. Of course, you can always say hi to the storms by downloading the mobile app. Get it on your phone or tablet there. And you can always see our forecast as well as track the storms on radar there any time you'd like. Picture for this half hour, courtesy of the law firm Bishop and Hays, is from Betha. Thank you very much, Betha, showing some of that ominous skyline there with showers and storms outside, which may not make for the best baseball or really any sports weather. But I'll tell you what, we need that rain to keep things green out there and is going to go a long way, I think, to help keep our temperatures down through the rest of the summer. We need that green grass. Was that today, that picture from today? I think so. I have all the pictures I believe are just from the storms that we saw here today. Wow, looking forward to seeing all those shots. Beautiful, beautiful shots. Matt, thanks so much. Well, now turning to sports, Eric Connect joins us and the Cardinals wrapped up their series in Philadelphia today. Yeah, Nyadi or Molina had a big day at the plate, but would it be enough? So we'll show you that coming up. Also, we'll check out the Missouri Southern Women's Basketball Team Camp going on with several local high school schools participating. And coming up, Arkansas looking to go 2-0 at the College Baseball World Series and taking on Texas Tech this afternoon in Omaha. Those highlights coming up. We'll be right back. Only at Silver Dollar City. Black Market Fireworks. Roefer, Hyundai and Joplin. Boomers Barbecue in Carthage. Thursday on NBC. But it was pushed back to 2-30. First inning, Razorbacks with 2 on. Dominic Fletcher fly ball to right center. And the Texas Tech Outfielders cannot make the play. 2-run score, 2-0 Arkansas. Second inning, Arkansas adding to that lead. Wichita native Jared Gates. Solo home run to right, 3-0 Razorbacks. And more Arkansas power in the fourth inning. Dominic Fletcher gets all of this one. Another solo home run. Arkansas jumped out to a 5-0 lead. And the Razorbacks win it 7-4. They'll play again Friday. Just one win away from being in the final series. Well in the big leagues, the Cardinals also in action this afternoon. Rubber game of their series in Philadelphia. And Yadier Molina had himself a big day. Leading off the second inning, first pitch from Jake Arietta. And Yadie jumps on that one. Solo home run to deep left. And we are tied at one. Sixth inning. Cardinals down 3-1. And Molina with one on. Opposite field shot. That's going to carry out of the park. Two run homer. Number nine for Molina. We're tied at three. Seventh inning. The Phillies go back on top. Adruble Herrera. A solo shot to right. And that was the difference as the Cardinals lose 4-3. Cardinals now had Milwaukee to face the first place Brewers in a four game series. Also today, Michael Walker had to leave the game in the fourth inning. With a left oblique strain. Meanwhile, the Royals will try and snap their eight game losing streak tonight. As they host the Rangers, the Royals have lost 14 of their last 15 games. Jacob Junas will be on the mound tonight. The Missouri Southern Limits basketball program is hosting their annual team camp. Several area high school teams are taking part, including Aurora, McCauley and Carthage. Over the course of three days, each team plays up to 10 games. And this week all started with an individual high school lead camp. And for all the campers that come through this week, Coach Ronnie Russell, Russell's goal is the same, improve for the winter. I want you to take one thing from our camp that you've learned. And hopefully you can build on that and continue to improve. With our high school, with our team camp, you know, it's one that we try to get quality games against good competition. You know, that they can compete in the summer. That's an opportunity for them to get in the gym and play with their high school team for next year. So hopefully they improve over their eight or ten games while they're here at Missouri Southern. And next week, Ronnie Russell and his staff will host a young players camp. The girls grades fourth through eighth grade walkups are welcoming. Also register online there. Now some pitch date. Women's basketball news here. The Pitt program announcing that they've promoted Addie Roller to be their top assistant under head coach Amanda David. Roller is a Purdy native. Now from the KSN Storm Center, your local weather is your day. This is your forecast first. And thanks for staying with us here this evening. Freeman Health Live. First alert, Doppler wind are basically showing what's left of the showers and storms starting to clear on out to the east here. Leaving some what's called stratiform rain on the backside of it. Mainly just the atmosphere trying to grab whatever moisture it can, throw it down and call it a day. Look at the temperatures here, we've got some 80s out west of where the storms formed. But nothing but 70s here to where the storms have gone. In fact, look at that, Stockton now down to 68 degrees. That's the coolest temperature I've seen in the four states today. And it's not the coolest we're going to get. In fact, we'll be well down into the 60s here tonight. Couple areas, and it depends on the moisture. The moisture is going to be the only real threshold there, the floor, for how cold we can get here tonight. Or cool, I should say, not cold. But we'll be out of the 60s everywhere. But we may see a few spots hit the low 60s or upper 50s even before sunrise tomorrow. So we'll be tracking that and also your storm chances coming up. KSN Local News at 6 continues now. Now, from the station you count on for local news that matters. This is KSN, your local news at 6. Good evening and thanks so much for joining us. I'm Jessica Shear. Lawmakers at our nation's capital continue working on legislation to help fight the opioid crisis. In Missouri, more than 1,300 people died from overdose and nationwide. That added up to about 62,000 in just 2017. Congresswoman Vicki Hartzler says in parts of southwest Missouri, employers are having a hard time finding people who can pass a drug test. She says it's also impacting the military and recruiting people who do not have a drug history. Hartzler says lawmakers are focusing on the issue in Washington, D.C. and it takes efforts on several fronts. Well, it's not just one thing, it's all aspects. So certainly we've got to do a lot of prevention, which a lot of our bills look at developing alternative ways to deal with pain. Last year the legislation passed the Comprehensive Addiction Recovery Act, which has given more than $4 billion to states or various grant programs. The House is currently working to pass more than 60 pieces of legislation to fight the crisis. Well tonight, President Trump says he's temporarily stopping the policy of separating migrant families caught crossing the border. But the President is still demanding Congress enact comprehensive immigration reform. Mark Meredith is in Washington with the latest. I didn't like the sight or the feeling of families being separated. President Trump gave in to demands from friends, enemies and former first ladies and signed an executive order to stop the policy of separating families arrested for illegally crossing the border. It's about keeping families together. The White House had repeatedly said only Congress, not the President, could end the controversial government action. The illegality along the border is a complex problem. Republican lawmakers who met with the President praised his leadership on immigration. You're the President who can help us solve the immigration problem with your leadership. Democrats continue to call President Trump's immigration tactics cruel and inhumane and stress executive order does not fix the problem. Family separation cannot be replaced by family incarceration. On Thursday the House is set to vote on two comprehensive immigration reform bills. It's not clear if either will pass. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who ordered the separation policy, says the administration can't fix immigration on its own. A lot of things that need to be done can only be done by Congress. But the President is keeping Congress at arm's length. He canceled Thursday's annual congressional picnic at the White House, telling lawmakers there's too much work to do. In Washington, I'm Mark Meredith. With first the Governor and then Lieutenant Governor changing faces in Missouri, a lot of attention is focused on filling elected positions that go vacant. But now the rules for appointing county-level replacements is changing. Missouri House Bill 1428 sets the procedure, starting with county commissioners. The goal is to make sure a job doesn't stay open for weeks and weeks. Construction continues on two bridges located on State Highway 10 in Ottawa County. The construction is taking place at the bridges located over Spring River and the Spring River overflow. It is an 11 million dollar project that originated due to the poor state the original bridges were in. And according to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, construction at the overflow bridge is about three-fourths of the way done. At the Spring River, bridge beams and the deck must be placed. ODOT estimates all work should be completed by this October, and traffic may be restored before then, but they are currently unable to give a date at this time. The Wyandotte Nation tribe is launching a warrior society. The tribe is doing this to pay tribute to its members that have served in the U.S. military. This can be in a variety of entities including activity, active duty, national guard, or reserves. Chief Billy Friend says Native Americans have always played a huge role in serving this country. He adds this will allow for those individuals to connect and work to deal with many issues veterans face. We want to be able to recruit out of the warrior society, be able to recruit these men and women into either the nation's honor guard, which functions at funerals and much like an American Legion honor guard. He says the tribe hopes to get the society started this fall. Applications are currently being taken up, and if you are a Wyandotte member that is interested and you have served in the military, you can contact the tribe at 918-678-2297. A local school district is setting a new standard with its bus performance. Carl Junction School District is being recognized for its perfect score on state inspection with all 49 buses in the fleet at the highest level of performance. Buses across Missouri are evaluated every year by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and they are the only school locally to receive this achievement. Jared Richmond, Transportation Director, says they have a very dedicated maintenance program. It's basically just like an inspection on your vehicle that you have to have done. They come in and check everything. They check all the light bulbs, the brakes, the tires, the steering, windshield wipers. Basically, if it's on the school bus, they check it, and it has to work front to back. He says to continue to ensure students' safety, the district has also worked to provide a safety alarm to ensure no students are left on those buses. This requires drivers to go to the back of the bus to make sure all students have left the vehicle. Richmond adds this is all part of the district's continuous plan to keep its students safe. And one of the blanket recipients was Bill Hawkins who just finished up the last of his treatments. He says gestures like this help make the battle against cancer a little more tolerable. It's just a showing of support and to know that people care. I feel lucky to live in southwest Missouri because gestures like this. I think it's to keep warm. Many of our patients complain of being cold. And so especially during infusion therapy and so this was just picked by Subaru as kind of a give back to the community. Since 2016 Subaru and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society have touched the lives of 70,000 patients in 400 hospitals and treatment centers across the country. Neosho businesses and residents can display their flower boxes for a chance to be recognized by the community. The Neosho area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the Flower Box Beauty Spot of the Week. Each week one business and resident will be spotlighted on their flower box display. And this is the first week of the contest and the winners were First Community Bank and Joyce Farley. All I want to do is try to encourage our neighbors to take some pride in their properties and to help beautify Neosho and to attract some people to the downtown area. People put a lot of hard work into their pride, into their flower beds and flower gardens and so it's kind of nice to give them that recognition. The contest began in the 1950s and was a tradition for many years. The Chamber is bringing it back though due to the community's support. Now turning back to weather, Chief Meteorologist Matt Posgai joins us once again with a look at our forecast. Those flowers got a little bit of rain today. They did of course. It's nice to get a little break from the heat outside. Of course now as we take a look at the forecast going forward we actually do have some less hot weather that's going to stick around a bit. Weather with meteorologist Matt Posgut. Welcome back to the KSN Storm Center and we actually do have storms in track here today that are still in the viewing area. I want to take a look now outside with our tower cam and show you what's left of the storms that moved through earlier. And this brought to you by the Stables Casino. A beautiful shot here from Joplin out across the city of Joplin. And we're looking from West Joplin toward the east where the line of storms now is starting to wave goodbye to us. And after a job well done, it is now much cooler and a little bit wetter outside. You can see here on our Freeman Health Live First Alert Doppler radar, still a few small showers just east and southeast of I-44 and I-49. Some of those are still just west of I-49, but that's right around Bella Vista. So as we zoom in here, we'll do a little radar tour for you. And most of the rain is actually to the east now of Mount Vernon. So I-44 between Mount Vernon and Springfield, a couple of showers, but they're very light. This line really had most of its punch earlier today. Not a single severe thunderstorm of these storms. Now that's for the Four States region. There were other storms along the cold front. The cold front went all the way north into Illinois. So I mean it was a pretty significant and pretty large cold front. But the main storm system itself is arriving as we head into tonight and then tomorrow. So we're not done with rain chances yet. For today, almost done. We still have a chance for a late one here tonight after dark, but this is pretty much it for the afternoon and evening. So you got a couple of showers right around Bella Vista here along I-49 and then off to the east there. It's starting to clear out through Cassville, but the heaviest rain is now long gone. And you can see that line of storms popped up and anything to the west of it didn't get anything except just some rain cool air on the backside. But that was it. So what's going on with this front now? Well, the front's going to keep pushing through. And that means it'll clear out what's left of the showers and storms. That said, it only clears out surface based activity. It doesn't clear out all rain chances entirely because you'll still have a little bit of energy wrapping around this system from time to time. And tonight we could see that maybe around midnight, 1 a.m. or so, a couple of small showers or storms, and then that will push to the south and east. The severe threat with this, I mean, only a fool rules it out, but in this case, if I were to rule something out, I'm pretty close to ruling it out. And that's simply because we just don't have the energy for it. So we could see a couple of if we get managed to get a few storms to form, it's possible they could get on the stronger side. But severe weather, we just don't have it. We don't have the energy for it. We don't have anything else for it. So we don't have the setup like we would if this were in early May. Temperatures right now, rain cool, low 70s here in Joplin as well as Monette. You have 80s still to the west. So you might be wondering, well, isn't our breeze from the northwest? Isn't that the cold front? And it is noticeably less hot. I mean, you've got a couple of spots there with the low 80s, which for a June afternoon and evening, that's not bad. But the breeze is still out of the southeast here in Joplin and Pittsburgh, and that's simply because that's the rain cool air from the storms moving northwest. And I don't care what kind of cold front you've got this time of the year. Nothing is going to be as powerful in terms of cooling the air as a good old fashioned thunderstorm. So that's why the temperatures are much cooler. But the cold front will sweep across the area. And more importantly, it's not just going to lower temperatures. It's going to dry our air. And that'll make it feel less hot, along with being less hot over the next few days. It compounds itself. So tonight, your forecast, local weather authority, low 60s. We could see a few showers and thunderstorms like I showed you on the model there. Potentially a little bit of patchy fog or drizzle. I'm doubtful on the fog. I think we could end up with some low cloud cover because there will be at least just enough of a breeze behind that front to lift and mix that moisture a bit. So we'll end up with some low clouds. But that'll be about it. We have low 80s for highs tomorrow, partly cloudy. Got a few showers possible, but I wouldn't expect much the way of storms. It'll all be energy wrapping around this system that's going to be moving on in. So it'll keep our temperatures down. It'll keep our rain chances at least there. But we have after tomorrow, not much the way of a daytime rain chance. We've got more nighttime rain chances. So Friday night is Saturday morning, then Saturday night again, Sunday night. And then we end up back into the hot and humid stretch with very little rain to show for it for next week. Of course, the weather is always changing. The forecast has to change. Picture for this half hour, courtesy of law from a bishop in a haze, showing some of those storm clouds outside from Jane. Thank you very much, Jane, for that beautiful shot. And I'll tell you, that is the kind that you want to put in a frame right there. It is beautiful. And of course, it's lovely to see that rain as well back into the area here. Can't get enough of these storm pictures. I'll tell you what. Love it, folks. Jane is a very talented photographer, so very good. I've got that picture, Matt. Thanks so much. Well, what could be seen by some as a waste of time is turning into a big industry for everyone. Coming up for one Joplin resident, he's working his way to the top. There are friends, neighbors, even our children, victims of the opioid abuse epidemic in Missouri, claiming lives costing billions. Attorney General Josh Hawley is fighting for solutions, taking on opioid manufacturers in court, and leading a coalition of state attorneys general, demanding legislation to crack down on illicit opioid sales to protect your family. Urge Josh Hawley to keep up the fight so opioid manufacturers do what's right. Help end the opioid abuse epidemic. Create your land of oohs and ahhs. Black market fireworks. Jeremiah Cook, only on KSM Local News. Welcome back. Video games are not what they once were. Gaming has evolved from a simple hobby into something that could potentially become a career. Yeah. And one Joplin gamer who has become the number one player in the state of Missouri is lighting up the leader boards, hoping to make it all the way to the top. KSN's Jasmine Bailey has the story. This is an e-sport competition. Many gamers dream of having a seat at one of these tables and Joplin native Axel Bean might actually make it happen. Let's go, man. He plays Fortnite and he's really good. And I have the most wins right now. I have 1200 wins. That's a lot of wins. The most in Missouri. I'm trying to get into it as an e-sport and e-sports is pretty big. It's a billion dollar industry. Electronic sports players can make thousands of dollars a year in an industry that now has the potential to put food on the table. If I get lucky enough and a team decides that they want me, then they would pay like salary. I'd be able to go to big tournaments and win lots of money. But as any gamer will tell you, it ain't easy to get as good as Axel. What does it take to get as good as Axel? A lot of time, a lot of effort. So how much time? A day. Oh man. Anywhere from like 6 to 12, maybe more. I've done like 24 hour streams before where I just played this game nonstop for 24 hours. What does your girlfriend think about that? She's really respectful about it and she supports me a lot. I just think it's awesome. It's like a hobby, but it's also something that he wants to pursue as a career if that does happen. Candice takes an active role in Axel's gaming, helping him manage his Twitch. It's a streaming service that allows fans and other gamers like Obie King to watch Axel tear up the competition. I mean this is nice to know someone from Joplin is doing something, doing something kind of big and it's got really good content. And impressively, Axel still manages to hold down a job and go to school. I make sure those come first. For now, he makes a little money from Twitch subscriptions and donations. I make about like 200 bucks a month. But hopefully it's just the beginning for this Joplin gamer. We'll be right back. At Ambassador, I stay alive. And Matt has one last look at our forecast. We had the rain move in earlier this afternoon. Is any more on the way? We have a couple of storm chances left here later tonight. Then also during the day tomorrow, I'd be surprised if we saw any storms. We won't have the energy behind the front. We could see a couple of very small showers wrap around that system as it tries to move on in. And that thing's going to be sitting and spinning across northern Missouri late Thursday into Friday, which means it'll just keep funneling some clouds over us, keep that cool air faucet going, keep our highs in the low 80s. And that's at most. So if we end up with cloudy skies in the morning that don't want to clear out, we may end up being a lot cooler. We'll have to see. All right, Matt, thanks for the update. Well tonight on NBC, two episodes of World of Dance start at 7. Then an all new Reverie begins at 9. And after KSN Local News at 10, Robert Pattinson and Pete Davidson are on the tonight show starring Jimmy Fallon. And late night with Seth Meyers has Mike Myers and Allison Brie.
