I'll see you bright and early tomorrow morning on today for all of us here at NBC News. Thanks for watching and have a great night. A border inspection booth before the border. It has drivers doing a double take tonight. New at 6. What these booths are intended for and if it could slow down South Bay traffic even more. When the plans first came out and we saw southbound inspection booths, of course you had me with my hair on fire, right? Going, wait, wait, what is this? What is this? I'm Allison Ash. Why people living in Oceanside say a bad neighbor is ruining their way of life and why police say there's not much they can do about it. So despite those quads out there today, your temperature is still pretty close to where they were at this time yesterday. But we do have a cool down and the forecast will be back with that in just a moment. NBC 7 News at 6 starts now. Good evening. I'm Stephen Lukin for Mark Mullin. I'm Catherine Garcia. Thanks for being with us here on the News at 6. Well, big changes are coming for thousands of drivers who cross into Mexico through the San Ysidro port of entry. And with that as well, some major closures this weekend. So for more on that, let's bring in NBC 7's Alex Prascha, who has these details for us tonight. Alex, a lot of people interested. Yeah, Stephen and Catherine, those closures are in preparation for this new border checkpoint that's scheduled to open in just a few weeks. But this weekend, starting Sunday at 10 p.m. all the way through Monday, 7 a.m. expect closures on the I-5 South from the 905 to the border also affected the I-5 access ramp at Camino de la Plaza and southbound traffic will be redirected from the 905 to the 805 instead. You're looking at the final phases of San Ysidro port of entry expansion. This will be the new southbound entry into Mexico, visibly different from how things are now, most notably those additional lanes and those inspection booths reminiscent of the same booths that are the northbound lanes. For more on that, I brought in Ramon Riesgo, the General Service Administration's project director for this expansion. And the plan is to start with four new lanes in May and then in June proceed to open the additional six lanes. At full speed, that would be more than double the number of lanes currently headed southbound. But what about those additional inspection booths? Does that mean more screening for cars headed south? What about wait times? That's for Homeland Security to answer. Answer they did. On the subject of inspections, a representative told us we currently conduct outbound inspections as pulse and surge operations, meaning short and periodic. He went on to say at this time we have no intention of changing our southbound inspections and no plans to conduct southbound inspections in the same way we conduct northbound inspections. He also said we do not anticipate longer wait times. It's going to help a lot. Many here are optimistic about the new project. We have been against a permanent inspection for southbound traffic on behalf of the U.S. authorities. But not everyone, especially local business leaders, worried about the potential uptick in traffic added inspections could bring. On a normal, regular basis, that would create havoc, that would create losses in the millions for both San Diego and Tijuana. And CBP told us today that they do not expect additional delays by these booths. But again, reminder, this weekend, those closures on the I-5 start Sunday at 10 all the way through Monday morning, 7 a.m. Reporting live from the border, Alex Perche, NBC 7. Alex, thank you. Well, after years of a San Diego woman claiming her La Jolla High School teacher groped her newly obtained documents by the voice of San Diego seemed to back up her claims. And now that former La Jolla High School teacher is under investigation by the state. NBC 7's Melissa Don spoke with one woman who says she is among several former students inappropriately touched by that teacher. Yeah, Catherine Stephen Loxigan tells me that she feels like the district is finally paying attention. Now, these crucial documents that the district provided to the state and our partners at voice of San Diego dot org inside here, it reveals that the district knew multiple students complained about the same teacher inappropriately touching them. This is about a teacher that now we have documentation that they were warned and they persisted. Loxigan tells us in 2003 she was groped by her former La Jolla High School teacher Martin Teachworth. He walked past me and grabbed my butt twice in a really intentional way. Gantz says 15 minutes after she reported it, everything went went exactly how it should go and nothing so happened. Documents now obtained by voice of San Diego dot org and NBC 7 show Gantz complaints were recorded and that the principal at the time spoke with Teachworth about the incident. According to the documents, this wasn't the first allegation against Teachworth, nor was it the last one. I knew that I needed to do the right thing. Documents show more than five students reported being inappropriately touched by Teachworth between 2002 and 2003. Several more students also came forward during the 2012 to 13 school year. One instance states Teachworth stuck his hand down a girl's pants and San Diego Unified School District officials took no action against him. Our entire system has failed a lot of these kids on so many levels. Gantz has started a consultancy. She's partnering with schools and churches to change the way these allegations are handled. We want people to believe the victims, trust the victims, but essentially we're not talking about what happened to us. We're talking about a systematic failure to protect students. The documents show district officials consider Teachworth's actions criminal in at least one instance. District leaders also engaged in a pattern of quote troubling behavior. I'm just so glad that I kept persisting. Now a decision regarding Teachworth will be made next week by state investigators. His teaching credentials here could be revoked if the committee finds the allegations to be true. In the studio, Melissa Adan, NBC 7. People living in one Oceanside community say they're on edge as one of their own neighbors trashes his house and just makes the lives of people living around him miserable. It's a story you'll see only on NBC 7. Reporter Allison Ash is in Oceanside with us tonight. Hey Allison, I think this is something a lot of people can relate to, just having a minor grievance with a neighbor, but this seems really extreme and police say they're powerless to stop it. Right. You know, Oceanside police have been called to this house on Chauncey Road 86 times in the past year, several times this week alone. Now officers advised us to keep our distance because the man inside often throws heavy objects from a second story window down below when there might be people down there. This is the home that his parents once owned. This red tag clearly states the house is unsafe and court documents obtained by NBC 7 detail the complete destruction going on inside. Holes and walls and floorboards, a stairway demolished, piles of junk everywhere. The house was boarded up in February, the man living here evicted, but that didn't last long. Well the water had been shut off and the power had been turned off, but the guy in his ingenuity had reconnected the power with some cables, which ultimately caused a fire. The man identified in court documents as Christopher Four grew up in this house. When his parents died a couple years ago, they didn't leave him the house, but he returned to claim it. Neighbors who did not want to go on camera out of safety concerns say Four's actions have gotten more and more destructive. That's why they keep calling police who say Four's actions are mostly civil, not criminal, so they can't arrest him. We're spending a lot of resources and money and time, you know, responding to, you know, calls of this nature in the neighborhood. So of course when somebody calls, we're going to respond, but our hands are pretty much tied in what we can do. But the city of Oceanside is doing something. Today they got a new abatement warrant signed by a judge. That means they can evict Four again. Their next move is to get a restraining order so if he returns to the property, he can be arrested for contempt of court. Neighbors say they hope their ordeal will soon be over and the eyesore on the normally well-kept Chauncey Road will disappear. Now that abatement warrant has to be posted at least 24 hours before police and code enforcement can actually kick Four out and board the place up once again. Now because of complicated laws, the fight though may not be over for a long time. Reporting live in Oceanside, Allison Ash, NBC7. Cannot imagine living next door to that. Allison, I don't need to say the least. Thank you. That was really unbelievable. Okay, let's talk about this cool down headed our way. Temperature is Dagmar. It's not too bad, right? No, it's not. I mean our variation in temperatures, we're going up four or five degrees to the warm side, four or five, six degrees to the cooler side. So yeah, it's a swing in temperatures of about eight to ten degrees. That's really about the worst of it here that I'm talking about. So the winds at the moment are more like breezes. So we're feeling at times some breezes gusting into the teens and the mountains. You're in the single digits though along the five and the 15 corridor at the surface. At the mid levels and the high levels or upper levels of the atmosphere, we've been seeing some high clouds streaming through. So that really has done very little to block the majority of sunshine because we've still been getting plenty of sun in a filtered manner coming through those clouds. Those clouds are still coming at us from the west northwest. So at the moment, even though we still do have some sunshine and some breezy, light breezy conditions, now we're three, four, five degrees cooler than where we were at this time yesterday. So temperature is cooling off now and the winds will begin to pick up not so much tonight, but the clouds will move in. That will keep us under mild conditions, not so breezy until we get to tomorrow, but the clouds may bring us a chance of sprinkles. So I'll be back in just a few moments and I'll take you through that. All right. Thank you. Well, Harbison Canyon is in the middle of an area primed for wildfire. This is according to a new study released by McClatchy Media. NBC7's Joe Little spoke with Cal Fire about the study and why it feels that it is ready for the worst case scenario. I'm on the edge of Harbison Canyon here in San Diego's East County. As you can see, it's pretty green out here, but this is one of the red flags firefighters see when they come out here. Mike Bush likes the green, but he knows it has to go. Fire season is right around the corner and all of this green will soon be brown. Brown fuel for a wildfire that could scorch Harbison Canyon like the Cedar Fire did in 2003. It took out a lot of property, a lot of property. My house burned to the ground and I just decided, you know, I'm going to rebuild myself. Rebuild right back in Harbison Canyon. I did all the framing work. Even though he knows it's prone to devastating wildfires. Well, I mean, I'm not worried about it. This is not new to us. Cal Fire Captain Isaac Sanchez does worry, but says people like Mike are better prepared now than ever before. As far as I'm concerned, San Diego County is one of the most prepared counties in the state. That's despite Harbison Canyon being listed in a new study as being smack dab in the middle of a severe fire zone. It's a fairly accurate depiction of what we're facing as an agency and as a state. Accurate but not a foregone conclusion. Captain Sanchez says they've learned a lot since 2003. Enough to know the green has to go before the threat comes through Harbison Canyon again. I would never want to do that again. It's not fun. Joe Little, NBC 7. Captain Sanchez says Cal Fire is working with other local agencies on an updated evacuation plan for this county and they should unveil it in the next few weeks. Tonight at 7 on NBC 7 San Diego. A procession has been winding through the streets of Los Angeles following the memorial service for murdered rapper and community activist Nipsey Hussle. Earlier about 15,000 people filled the Staples Center to say goodbye to the Grammy nominated artist and L.A. native who was working to improve the community where he grew up. NBC's Patrick Healy has more on today's service. It was a raucous beginning to a remembrance of Ermias Oscar dome immortalized as Nipsey Hussle a remembrance part entertainment spectacle part church service part personal reflection. Just water the seeds of love that Ermias displayed to you that you know that you have planned to water that love and let it grow. With the message I did it my way even a recording of Frank Sinatra fit in with a video montage of the rapper who grew up in South L.A. and stayed to invest the fortune he was making back into the community. A message from 44th president Barack Obama was read. He set an example for young people to follow and as a legacy worth of celebration. Nation of Islam leader minister Louis Farrakhan on Hussle's growth as a young man. He lived the gang life but he didn't stay there. Not long after those gathered were introduced to Hussle's family and children and heard heartfelt tribute. Mentor Snoop Dogg called Hussle a visionary and peacemaker and told him so. He knew he had nothing but love for every gang member from Southern California. I don't care what neighborhood he was from. One conversation that me and Nip had once upon a time was cuz you know the trade is like your music too cuz. All right well right now this is a live look at what is happening in Los Angeles. This is these are all the people that have shown up to be part of this procession basically and you can see right here the hearse that is involved in the procession. This is right outside of the marathon clothing store that Hussle owned and maybe we'll look at a wider shot here from the news chopper up in LA but there are so many people that have come and lined the streets that want to be part of all of this. Hussle was shot and killed outside this LA clothing store two weeks ago. Here we go this might give you a better perspective of just how many people are there and I don't know if you can see but on the right top corner of your screen where it looks like nobody was in the crowd you can't see it now but that's the memorial that's been growing in this spot where people have been coming to pay tribute to him. The suspect by the way arrested for the deadly shooting has been charged with murder. Right now he is being held on five million dollars bail but as you can see there is a huge huge crowd in LA right now paying tribute to him. We'll keep monitoring this through the night and have more on the news at 11. The city of Chicago's law department filed a civil complaint today against Empire actor Jussie Smollett. Felony charges against him were dropped you probably heard by Cook County prosecutors last week. They said it wasn't worth the time and expense. Well then the city demanded reimbursement from him for the cost spent investigating his false police report in January. The actor has refused to pay more than a hundred thirty thousand dollars. The complaint pursues the full measure of damages allowed under the false statements ordinance. President Trump may be open to a third summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Today South Korean leader Moon Jae-in visited the White House in hopes of jumpstarting nuclear talks between the U.S. and North Korea. The last round of negotiations fell apart without North Korea agreeing to end its nuclear program. British police today arrested WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. He was carried out of the Ecuadorian embassy in London where he was granted asylum clear back in 2012. Assange now faces possible extradition to the U.S. The Justice Department accusing him of conspiring with Chelsea Manning to break into a classified government computer. NBC's Matt Bradley reports from London. After years of waiting the case of Julian Assange has moved forward at a rapid pace today. Police from the Metropolitan Police here in London were invited into the Ecuadorian embassy. That's where Julian Assange has spent most of the last seven years in sanctuary trying to avoid charges from the United States and from Sweden and here in Britain. He was brought to this courthouse where he was immediately tried and convicted of violating the bail agreement that he had with the British government from several years ago. Now we're probably not going to be hearing from Mr. Assange again until May 2nd. That's when he's expected to have a hearing where it will be discussed whether or not he's going to be extradited to the United States. He only faces one charge so far in America. He's accused of conspiring with Chelsea Manning to hack a government computer back in 2010. Since 2010 we've warned that Julian Assange would face prosecution and extradition to the United States for his publishing activities with WikiLeaks. Unfortunately today we've been proven right. It's unclear whether the United States government is going to try to levy more charges against him or whether the Swedes will continue pressing charges against him as well. All of these will bear a lot on whether Julian Assange spends many many years or very little time behind bars. Matt Bradley, NBC News, London. Meantime Ecuador's president is lashing out against Julian Assange calling him a miserable hacker and quote spoiled brat who was disrespectful to officials charged with taking care of him at the country's embassy in London. The possibility of immigrants being arrested by ICE is much more likely here in San Diego County than in any other place in the U.S. New research from Syracuse University says ICE conducted almost 2100 so-called community arrests in San Diego County last year. Community arrests are when ICE encounters and then detains people at home, work or other public places without the help of local police. Immigrant rights activists say the stepped up ICE enforcement has created a climate of fear. Unfortunately here in San Diego County even though there is still that collaboration there has been much more resistance, much more organization to stop any type of collaboration with immigration law enforcement. The new research shows that New York is actually the city where people are least likely to be arrested by ICE. Ethnic studies are now essential to graduate why San Diego's largest school district decided to add it as a requirement. And it's a little on the cooler side outside compared to this time yesterday but it's still really nice. We have some of those clouds that may produce a drop or two of rain in the overnight hours so we'll be back in a moment with the latest update on that. Here's Dagmar with your first story. Forecast? Yeah, it's been a really kind of a nice day out there. So you started with partly cloudy skies, a little bit of that thickening sky cast out there but still enough for you to see your shadow and feel the rays of the sun. So at the beaches it was a little fresh out there. Your waves, you're looking at three to four feet, maybe seven feet off Point Loma South but that's about it. So there's not much going on with the local waters in terms of the breezes at the surface. It's not that much either. You do have that mid-level and high clouds streaming through. It is coming at you from the north and the northwest. So for tomorrow, as the system continues to bring us partly cloudy skies, it will thicken up tonight, clear up and then the winds will take the place of the clouds. So a little bit of an interesting 24-hour setup here. Your seven-hour planner along the coastal zones. You'll be in the upper 50s tonight. Curls, bads, low on average. You're going to end up right around that mid-50 mark by 1 a.m. Again, upper 50s still. Partly cloudy skies. Inland valleys, you will end up in the upper 40s and the low 50s. Mid-50s by the time you get to midnight. There may, in those, really the coastal slopes of the foothills, possibly be a patch or two of drizzle. There's such uncertainty about this. The chances are very light, 15 to 20 percent. And even if anything does manage to fall as a sprinkle or a patch of drizzle, well, that'll still add up to barely a few one hundredths of an inch. And that's really mostly confined to the ridge lines and through to the 15 quarters, in between those two zones. Seeing the upper 30s and the low 40s by 1 a.m., partly to mostly cloudy skies. Again, that streaming cloud that you've seen all day, that will be a part of your forecast in all four forecast zones. So the same story holds true of the deserts. You're looking at about that low 60 mark by midnight, by 1 a.m. For tonight, on average, your temperatures will end up right around, as I said, for Oceanside, a bit cooler. You'll end up around the upper 40s and the low 50s. Del Mar, San Diego, mild. Mid to upper 50s. Looking at your temperatures in the inland valley areas, Escondido, El Cajon, low 50s there. Eastlake, maybe that mid 50 mark. In through the mountains also, possibly now for tonight, mostly after 11 p.m., midnight, 1, 2, 3 a.m. You're looking at your temperatures reaching down into the low 40s in places like Julian. But you might also see just a sprinkle or two mixed in there. Low 60s in Borrego, not much of a chance of you seeing any of that sprinkle activity. So looking at the futurecast mode, once again, by 10, 11 p.m., thick enough clouds, some of the lower clouds building in as well as the higher clouds by 11 p.m., possibly an isolated sprinkle or two. Once again, notice that zone. Notice where those showers will be confined to. Mostly over the mountains and just around to the border of the 15 corridor. And then as you head towards 8, 9, 10 a.m., you're going to see mostly clear skies. So that isolated chance of patchy drizzle and or a sprinkle or two is mostly limited to the overnight hours. And then for your Friday, right around 2 p.m., once, as I mentioned, those clouds, those are going to push out of the region courtesy of the north and northwesterly winds that will pick up. So be a little on the cooler side tomorrow once those winds, breezes begin to push through San Diego County. We'll be back in just a few moments. We'll take a look at the temperatures, the winds and what's in store for you as you head into your Saturday and Sunday. Questions finally answered about how space and time impact the human body. You're watching NBC seven news at six. Welcome back to the news at six and the search is now over for two missing hikers. They were gone for nearly a week in the Angeles National Forest after the pair disappeared. Now they've been found alive, which is great news. It is. And tonight, NBC's Kim Baldonado has more on their condition and also details about how they were rescued in what some are now calling the Mount Baldy miracle. This video shows the moment two hikers who'd been missing for five days were rescued from Mount Baldy. We're very grateful to be found tonight. Thirty three year old Eric to splinter and 31 year old Gabrielle Wallace went for a day hike with another couple Saturday morning when they reached icy saddle. The other couple turned back, fearing it was too dangerous. But the splinter and Wallace continued on. We just lost the trail and had a little bit of a slip on the going to the peak of Cucamonga Peak and decided we wouldn't go back up the ice and snow. So we tried to descend through a valley, but that valley was more treacherous than we thought. For five days and four nights, search and rescue teams from throughout Southern California combed the trails, peaks and canyons of Mount Baldy, which had two to four feet of snow and ice at its highest elevation. Throughout it all, Eric's mother watched, waited and held out hope, which only started to wane in the moments before the pair was found. Tonight was the last night I got a little bit cold and it wasn't, I don't think probably 10 minutes and then my son came around the corner and said, we've got news. They found some tracks. So it was, no, we never lost hope. Tracks and a fire, the couple started to stay warm is what finally led to this rescue. Both are experienced hikers and Eric has military training, which no doubt helped them survive. Rationed our food, drank water through a life straw, kept as warm as possible. Both were checked out by medical staff and neither suffered any serious injuries. Once the rescue was complete and reunions took place, Eric knew exactly what he was going to do next. Go to sleep. No shower. Then go to sleep. Kim Baldonado, NBC four news. Don't blame them. During the five day search effort, rescue crews and volunteers searched almost 20,000 acres, which is nearly three times the size of all of mission trails park here in San Diego. The FBI, Escondido police and the ATF are all asking for your help tonight in an arson case. They announced a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the person who lit Dar Al-Arqa mosque on fire in Escondido last month. Authorities have a few leads, they say, but they're still hoping someone can come forward with a little more detail. The suspect also sprayed a message in graffiti in the mosque's parking lot. The message referenced the New Zealand mosque shootings. Yousef Miller, who prays at the mosque, says that detail made things even scarier. Well, that takes it from just a concern level to a extra, you know, scary part of it. The damage done in Christchurch we didn't experience here, but it means that there was a potential for that to happen. And that's our worst nightmare. The Escondido police department saying they've increased their presence at the mosque and they're now patrolling the area more frequently. The FBI says it is investigating whether this is a hate crime. Survivors are coming together tonight for a special candlelight ceremony. San Diego Police and Victims Assistance Agencies are hosting the event right now in Kurdi Mesa. The vigil is now in its 30th year. It's a time to honor San Diegans whose lives have been changed. In the scariest of circumstances, people who have survived local crimes will be sharing their stories and talking about how they've overcome the trauma since. If you are planning to drive on Interstate 5 tonight, heads up here, part of the freeway will actually be shutting down soon. All southbound lanes will close near La Jolla Village Drive at 930 tonight. Workers are still trying to complete that mid-coast trolley project, so they're putting up a concrete bridge. The freeway is set to open back up tomorrow morning at 5 o'clock. A 5G network is coming to San Diego and today we got a first look at the technology being developed by Verizon and Qualcomm. Qualcomm gave a demo of the service at the local headquarters just a few hours ago and explained how this will help many areas of our community. The event showcased 5G's versatility. Developers say 4G was primarily focused on phones and tablets, but 5G will allow more connectivity in other industries, including automotive and healthcare. Qualcomm is creating a system of automated cars that will use the access to the network to navigate safely. So we think of a new technology called CV2X that is part of 5G as the language that will let cars talk to each other and an example of that, if there is a car driving in front of me and braking, it will just let my car know that it's braking so it will avoid collision. 5G will still be improving your phone's connection too, Verizon says. Its customers will not need new devices to use the service, but not every phone or tablet is 5G compatible. The Port of San Diego hosted a ceremony to celebrate the city's 250th anniversary. The ceremony started with a Kumeyaay Nation cultural exchange. Today marks the day when the first Spanish settlers arrived here in San Diego at the harbor on the ship San Antonio. The event included remarks from the mayor, Kevin Faulkner, the port chairman, and representatives of tribes in the Kumeyaay Nation. 250 years ago, Spanish explorers came into this bay for the first time, the big entry way to San Diego Bay, and changed forever the face of San Diego Bay. Pretty cool moment during the event. The Maritime Museum of San Diego anchored its ship right there, the San Salvador Offshore. It represents the San Antonio and it obviously created a very stunning backdrop for everyone. By the way, in case you missed this week's San Diego Explained, we broke down all the major projects the Port of San Diego is working on right now that will change the future of San Diego's skyline. We have that posted on our website. Just head to NBC7.com and search San Diego Explained. Space travels effects on the human body. I mean, it does seem like science fiction, right? But here's the thing. A landmark study got published today and it's really taking the idea of long term space travel seriously. The well known NASA identical twins study came out today. And NBC 7's Danny Freeman got the chance to speak with local scientists who led UC San Diego's part of the experiment. Whenever NASA does a study, they'll create a flight patch which astronauts will wear when they're on their mission in space. And you can see this is the twin study flight patch right here. UC San Diego. One of the greatest things about this study is the cooperation of 10 laboratories around the country. For five years, 10 teams from UPenn to the University of Washington got on the phone weekly to discuss the famous NASA twin study. Which sent astronaut Scott Kelly into space for about a year between 2015 and 2016 while his twin brother Mark Kelly stayed on Earth. Dr. Brynda Rana led UC San Diego's team in trying to see how prolonged time in space affects humans. And that's what this study was all about. What's going to happen to the body? Rana said they found parts of the body did change. But upon Scott Kelly's return to Earth... The levels came back to normal, what he had during pre-flight. And while this means humans can withstand a year in space... That tells us that the body is incredibly resilient to the stressors of space flight. Rana says they also found out important information from their control subject on the ground. So we actually have really good data on how the physiology, cognition and molecules change over a two year period in a middle aged man on Earth. Saying she can use that data to study things like diabetes or hypertension. Who here knows what DNA is? Now this study may be over, but to seriously consider space travel as far as Mars, the work is far from done. So this was one year, next time one and a half years, two years and see what happens. One of the next experiments Dr. Rana says is coming up, trying this with two females instead of two males to see if women's bodies react differently to space over time than men's. Danny Freeman, NBC7. So while 559 humans to be exact have flown into space according to the study, only eight people have completed missions longer than 300 days. Students in the San Diego Unified District must soon take another course to graduate. It is called ethnic studies and it's a different way of looking at history. Hoover High is one of just two schools in San Diego Unified that offer ethnic studies right now. Students learn the history of minority groups and about immigration, something that they see every day on this mid-city campus and nearby streets. District board members say ethnic studies is a valuable program for students in every neighborhood and on Tuesday night they voted to make it a required class for graduation starting in 2021. One student told us ethnic studies has value beyond the classroom. And we learn about how special each culture is and I think especially in this century of the time it's important for us to know about different cultures and how we can show respect to them. 15 California school districts already have ethnic studies graduation requirements and that includes Los Angeles Unified which is the state's biggest school district. A Tijuana businesswoman deported nine times from the U.S. is celebrating her American daughter's college graduation. Esther Morales sells tamales in Tijuana. She started her business south of the border after deciding it would just be too dangerous to try and return to the U.S. again. Esther's daughter grew up in the U.S. with relatives and during that time Esther sent pretty much any extra money she had to her daughter to help pay for the college fund. At the age of 26 Esther's daughter realized her dream of earning a college degree and while Esther now runs a successful business in Mexico she still dreams of returning to the U.S. one day. The days of stale yucky dorm room cereal may soon be over for college students because there's some new technology that's leading to some big changes in on campus dining. Delivering food anywhere on campus at just the touch of a phone button. NBC's Kate Rogers visited George Mason University to check out how the new system works. Rolling out of bed and into the dining hall to grab a bite to eat is so last semester. Hello, I'm a Starship delivery robot. Now George Mason University students like Victoria Arosa and Jasmine Yaramillo can get food delivered to their dorms, library or wherever they are on campus by robot. The college is the first to team up with Sodexo and Starship Technologies to offer food and beverage delivery via autonomous robot. I got super excited because I don't like walking across campus to get food and so when I found that I had Dunkin I was like yay coffee that'll come to me that I don't have to walk in the cold for. Since launching in late January more than 10,000 deliveries have been made at GMU via robot and the fleet has grown to over 40. Services have been extended to 2 a.m. and there are plans to expand to 24 hours in the near future with restaurants including Dunkin, Subway, Steak and Shake and Einstein Brothers. Starbucks and Chick-fil-A are coming soon all with a low delivery fee of $1.99. Sodexo says that so far Blaze Pizza has been most popular with students on campus with about 70 orders coming in per day via the robot. Make that 71. Sodexo has already rolled out the robots at Northern Arizona University with plans for an expansion to come. We want to get this right and make sure that you know every brand is ready to go. Every university has different brands and so it's a process to get that up and running. For now there's no excuse to take a study break. Your midnight snack is coming to you. Kate Rogers CNBC Business News Fairfax Virginia. Okay so you're probably thinking the idea that robots replacing human employees might be a bad thing people might lose their jobs. Well Sodexo and Starship say they've actually created more than 20 new positions for students. The jobs include either managing the robots or the orders that are associated with them. I can't need those jobs it's not you know imagine cheap to have a robot deliver food to your room. College kids have so much money as it is right. Oh yeah for sure. Just rolling in it. I don't know we all dug more we're being a little judgy and saying they're being lazy but they thought actually sounded like kind of a fun idea. Yes we could see the benefits yes yes overall. I know but it's okay to walk across campus and get your copy unless it's 2 a.m. Okay here's what we're looking at. What we want to see outside right now is a little bit more sunshine but you probably won't be seeing a whole lot of clear skies until you do get to maybe tomorrow. I'll show you that in a second. So this cloud cover continues to stretch our way across Southern California through the county through the overnight hours. So the higher cloud continues but then we also see some of that low cloud build into the west of the mountains and it is that low cloud that may deliver a little bit of a chance of drizzle mostly limited to the area between the ridge lines and to the 15 corridor. So also that'll be limited to the overnight hours mostly after 11 p.m. tonight and before 8 9 a.m. tomorrow morning. After that you will see a mostly clear day as those westerly winds pick up the clouds will start to be pushed out of the way. Those north and northwesterly breezes anywhere from about the 10 to 15 mile per hour mark through your at least through the noon hour 11 a.m. noon hour 3 4 5 p.m. will continue and then right around sunset they begin to fade and calm down just a bit. So looking at the forecast tomorrow you will see predominantly gradually but clearing skies upper 60s Del Mar San Diego. So a very lovely day breezy though. I just showed you that and along the coastal zones and a little cooler in Escondido and El Cajon clouds will linger longer there and you will also have that slight chance for especially early or possibly an afternoon sprinkle mixed in. Gusty conditions in the mountains possibly an early or maybe midday sprinkle mixed in there as well. At Borrego Springs you're looking at about that low 80 mark but mostly dry there. So looking at the futurecast rain how much might we see? It is so minimal. First of all the chance is minimal. You're talking about maybe about 20 percent chance at most and even then if anything does manage to make it all the way through to the ground you're still looking at just about a few one hundredths of an inch. So that was the inland North County stretch. Now we're looking at the inland South Bay stretch. So the foothills, the coastal slopes again almost up to the 15 corridor but not so much beyond that. So the beaches are pretty much exempt from this tomorrow. A few one hundredths of an inch in terms of drizzle. Mountains you may see just a touch as well. Deserts is highly unlikely you will. Your first alert looking at the coast through the next three days partly sunny tomorrow mostly sunny clearing Sunday, Saturday rather first sunny and warm. Sunday patchy morning fog then partly cloudy skies to partly sunny skies. So the coast in the inland valleys breezy and slightly cooler tomorrow. Remember an overnight chance for sprinkles. Saturday and Sunday temperatures warming. Skies partly to mostly clear. Ending up feeling those sprinkles possible in the mountains mostly overnight and early and then you've got some breezy conditions mixed in there as well. Saturday and Sunday is looking good for all four forecast zones. It's going to be pretty nice out there. Thank you. We'll take it. Sounds good. Darnay you are watching the Masters for our local big star. It's such a I love this week so much. It's great for golf fans. We're always wondering if Phil Mickelson has more major magic left in him. Today it sure looked like he could add the jacket to his wardrobe. We'll recap round one from Augusta next. Down to our eight tonight. Sports Desk is sponsored by your San Diego County four dealers. Phil Mickelson will always feel right at home at the Masters. The major he's won three times and of course that is well suited to his game. Once again that showed up today. The San Diego native put himself right near the top of the leaderboard after round one of the season's first major. It was pretty whole hung through 11 holes even par after back to back bogeys. Then his whole round change beginning at the par 312. He's going to like that one. Rolls it up nearly for an ace. Augusta was on fire from that point on five birdies. The last seven holes including one on the challenging 18th to wrap up a five under round of 67. That's the lowest number he's posted on a Thursday at Augusta since 2010 which was the last year he took the green jacket. Well no one gets the spotlight. The Masters like Tiger Woods. Decent start for the four time winner. The best moment of the day came on the 14th hole for birdie. That roar no doubt made its way across Augusta National for birdies. Two bogeys for a two under 70. Here's the glance at the leaderboard. Mickelson Trails, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka who carded matching rounds of 66. How about the other locals? Ricky Fowler shot a two under 70. He's tied for 11th with Tiger. Charlie Hoffman always seems to be in the picture at the Masters. One under for him is Andrew Shuffley is tied for 44th after shooting a 73. All right on the Diamond Padres just started a four game series in Arizona for the third time this season. They've got a starter making his big league debut. 22 year old Pedro Avila gets the call for the Friars. He's only made one appearance above a ball. Same story as Nick Margavishas who has been really good through three starts this season. We'll see what he can do tonight. Matt Nye for the Dodgers before the game. That's Sister Mary Jo. She's done this before at Major League Games and it shows she's got an arm on her impressive first pitch there and well done to St. Louis as well. To beat the Dodgers 11-7 giving them a four game sweep of L.A. So that loss puts the Padres alone in first place at worst though end the night tied with the Dodgers. All right if you haven't yet you should check out the On Friar podcast. It's with Derek Togerson and I. We've got new episodes weekly including one that will be live later tonight. We discuss what's going on with the squad. You can find it in all major podcast markets. Search On Friar and subscribe. We are just a couple of weeks away from the 2019 NFL draft. These days teams like the Chargers are bringing in players for workouts. Today they did so with some college talent from the area including former Aztec wideout Fred Trevillian. Chargers GM Tom Talasco told reporters that he was impressed with Trevillian's speed and his footwork. Some draft websites have him going undrafted but the Chargers have him rather have had some success with guys like Malcolm Floyd, Antonio Gates and Tyrell Williams who have gone undrafted and signed as rookie free agent. Trevillian had 22 grabs or 598 three scores last season and Rocky Longs will run first offense and enjoyed having a chance to show what he can do. None of this is going to be given to you know a lot of us we started in high school we're big stars in high school and we started in college and our name was ringing in college but coming into the NFL you got to kind of be humble and just expect to work and earn your way up to the top. I had fun out here though it was a pretty good learning experience you know coming out here with new guys that I've never met before. The draft begins two weeks from today round one goes down on April 25th. During one of the timeouts it was you know I got everybody to the bench there and warned them if we didn't get our crap together it was going to start to go south and it certainly did. Well that pretty much summed up last night's 4-3 loss for the goals. San Jose scored four unanswered including three in the second period. That's trouble because it kept San Diego from clinching a playoff spot now they have to go on the road to do it. They finished a regular season with two straight at Tucson. Win one of two and they're in the Calder Cup playoffs for the third time in four years and they've been in a situation like this before did not end well for them so kind of have that bad memory in the back of the mind so hopefully they can take care of business tomorrow and know they're in the playoffs. They can do it. Coach Eakins has got them motivated I have a feeling. I do collect them now between now and Friday. You will. Thanks Darnage. Thanks Janay. Thanks for watching Wheel of Fortune is next. We'll be back for the news at 11. Have a good evening.
