AC check and more big tires helping you protect your family. Fox 11 news at nine. All the news you need one hour earlier. Breaking weather another day of extreme heat more monsoon storms. We are experiencing them both right now. First Lord forecaster Jackie Slesky tracking all of this. Jackie what's the latest? So right now we do have some storms firing up really all across the area. They started out mainly south and east of Tucson made their way over to the metro. So I want to just zoom in and give you a closer look where we're seeing some of these moderate downpours. East River Road, North Cold Road as well. Tucson also getting in on that action. East Broadway Boulevard, East Speedway, Tanque Verde by East Catalina Highway. Also seeing those moderate downpours. Drexel, Little Town as well starting to clear out along the international border. But we are holding on to these storm chances through this evening. 30 percent chance here at six o'clock and then that starts to die down a little bit eight, ten o'clock and then we'll dry out through those overnight hours. But we'll do it all over again tomorrow. In fact, even more so as we have a first alert action day storm coverage going to increase across the area. In addition to that dealing with some extreme heat, we have an excessive heat warning in place right now. I'll tell you everything you need to know coming up here in the next 15 minutes. Thanks Jackie. Most people coming into Tucson from out of town aren't used to the extreme heat we're having and that's why firefighters with the Tucson Airport Authority were out and water bottles. No better welcome to Tucson. That's ice cold water. They're reminding our visitors to stay hydrated while they're in town. The weird thing about dehydration, it can come very unexpectedly. So people may be dehydrated without them knowing. So we're taking up our active step by making sure they stay hydrated, give them the water, have them drink it before they even go to their vehicles. The firefighters say visitors should probably drink about a bottle of water every hour. And of course they remind the rest of us to stay hydrated as well. Happening now in Amber Alert out for two children from Pinal County in danger. State troopers are looking for these two people identified as the children's parents. They are Melissa Gladden and Jerry Kirkley. Police say they took a two year old child and a five month old baby this morning. They were having a supervised visit in Florence with a DCS caseworker. Investigators think they may be headed to Mississippi or Louisiana in a Dodge pickup with Louisiana license plate C618802. If you see them or those children or that truck, you should call 911 immediately. Crews are mopping up two wildfires in Cochise County. Firefighters stopped one south of Dos Cabezas at 10 acres. Some nearby homes had been on pre evacuation notice, but they're fine now. Another near Bisbee is now 65% contained. It burned about 35 acres. It wasn't threatening any buildings, but crews had to protect several communications towers in that area. They say it all started yesterday with a lightning strike. Traffic is back to normal on the Ina Road overpass after a minor crash involving a dump truck this morning. There it is. The truck ran into the traffic lights on the bridge. Nobody was hurt. There wasn't too much damage, but crews had to come out to repair those lights and they're up again and running. Police identified the woman killed in a crash Saturday night in Oro Valley. They say 19 year old Maya Dolana was coming home from a babysitting job when her car crossed into oncoming traffic. It was more road near La Cunha drive. She hit a pickup truck. Police aren't sure why she crossed lanes. The driver that pickup is recovering in a near party line vote. House members voted to formally condemn some of President Trump's tweets targeting for Democratic Congresswoman for Republicans joined with Democrats to approve a House resolution, saying those comments have legitimized and increased fear and hatred of new Americans and people of color. Last weekend, the president said for Democratic Congresswoman should go back to where they came from, even though all four are citizens and only one was born outside the U. S. The president is not backing off his comments. Even Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell telling both Republicans and Democrats to tone down their words. President not a racist, and I think the tone of all of this is not good for the country, but it's coming from all different ideological points of view. That's the point. Democratic Congressman Raul Grijalva voted for that resolution. He tweeted right after the vote that he and his immigrant colleagues will not allow the president to make their existence in the existence of millions of Americans worth less. We have not heard from Senator Martha McSally or Senator Kirsten Sinema about those comments. Another southern Arizona representative is calling for the start of an impeachment inquiry for President Trump. Here's what Democrat Anne Kirkpatrick said on the House floor today. Following Mueller's alarming report, it is our job as a Congress to conduct oversight and deliver answers to the American people. Kirkpatrick says this is about protecting our democracy. She joins fellow Southern Arizona Democrat Raul Grijalva and two other Arizona representatives, both Democrats, in calling for an impeachment inquiry. So far, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has pushed back on calls for impeachment. A lawsuit will be filed by the end of the week over efforts to put a sanctuary city question on the November ballot. Pima County leaders verified there were enough valid signatures on petitions to get it on the ballot. But the Pima County Republican Party says the petitions have several problems, including whether or not they're constitutional. If the question survives the court challenges and voters approve it in November, Tucson would cooperate less with federal immigration efforts. It would be the first sanctuary city for immigrants in Arizona. A week after the Trump administration abandoned efforts to add a citizenship question on the census, a federal judge stepped in to keep it that way. Today, he issued an order blocking the administration from adding the question in any form. Last month, the Supreme Court said the question could not be added without a better reason. The administration would have to go through lower courts to do that. I still don't think it sunk in that we were there. You know, it was it was it was a wonderful experience. The owners of a local company are back at work after an invitation to the White House. New details now on a business based in Catalina. We told you yesterday how Arizona chili roasters joined to showcase a products made in America. They say it was a surprise. White House staff went through hundreds of businesses. Well, now the owners are back home and talking with Fox 11's Michael Colliani about their presentation for President Trump. As you might say, that's how we rock in a tiny single room warehouse on their property. The McBrooms could be considered Arizona's roasting royalty, not comedy, not beef, but chilies, specifically these machines that make them. It's one of those situations where we had to stop production to go. But how can you not? And their three person operation in Catalina was recognized with an invitation to the White House's Made in America product showcase, a Trump administration highlight of American manufacturers, one from each state. We make everything by hand here in Tucson. President Daphne McBroom runs the business where we cut our tubing that we use for the bases and the stand while her husband, Darryl welds. I guess it's kind of one of those bucket list things that you go, wow, I finally can scratch that off my bucket list. Receiving a private tour of the White House's kitchens, one on ones with Trump cabinet members and a seat on the White House lawn during the president's speech yesterday. He asked us all to come up when he was done speaking and I was surprised I was able to shake his hand. Their products are roasting chilies in all 50 states in more than 10 countries, bringing a taste of the southwest to the world. We were educating what the contraption was. It wasn't, you know, a bingo machine. The big question is, well, what you do after you roast it like you eat it. Their White House feature earned them a lot more than a trip to D. C. It also means big publicity, keeping the McBrooms busy building. We're a small company and to represent the state when there's huge companies from here that do our manufacturers. So yeah, it was quite an honor in Catalina. Michael Coliani, Fox 11 News. While the publicity might have been free, the trip was not. The Brooms paid their own way to and from D. C. Outrage in New York City, federal prosecutors decided not to file charges against an officer accused of killing a black man. I can't breathe. I can't breathe. Five years ago, the death of Eric Garner set off protests across the country. Police said he was illegally selling cigarettes. Officer Daniel Pantaleo was accused of using a chokehold. Medical examiner found the officer's actions caused an asthma attack that set off a deadly chain of events. But prosecutors say they didn't find enough evidence for a criminal case. Video and the other evidence gathered in the investigation does not establish beyond a reasonable doubt. That officer Pantaleo acted willfully in violation of federal law. You killed my son and you won't get away with it. A grand jury in New York previously declined to indict the officer. The city of New York settled with Garner's estate for nearly six million dollars. No bond for R. Kelly. A judge ruled the accused R. and B. Singer must stay behind bars for now. He was back in a federal courtroom this morning for an arraignment and plea hearing. He says he's not guilty of sex crimes and racketeering charges in two separate indictments. Prosecutors say Kelly recruited women for sex and helped him cover up evidence he had inappropriate contact with underage girls. The Board of Planned Parenthood has voted out its president after just eight months on the job. This comes as its clinics are facing numerous challenges to abortion in several states and a new Trump administration rule. That rule bars taxpayer funded family planning clinics from referring women for abortions. Planned Parenthood plans to tap into emergency money to help run clinics for now. The organization is not commenting on what led up to the vote to oust its president. And it's one after another after another after another. Arizona senator is no friend of Facebook. Senators are grilling Facebook over its plan to launch a new digital currency. Arizona Senator Martha McSally says Facebook has had too many issues with bugs and privacy. There's allegations of bugs that oh sorry we didn't mean to allow them to download photos and these it's one after another after another after another. So I don't trust you guys. A Facebook executive testified before the Senate Banking Committee saying the company wants to innovate on behalf of its users. But senators question whether the company has any expertise in money laundering and other financial issues. Facebook says it has hired experts to help and another hearing lawmakers questioned whether big tech companies are preventing competition. The furniture company Ikea is shutting down its only factory in the United States. The company will end production this December at its plant in Virginia. Investigators in Greece believe they have their suspect in the murder of an American scientist. Suzanne Eaton turned up dead on the island of Crete. She was there for a conference. Detectives say a man confessed to the murder. They say he hit the woman twice with his car before sexually assaulting her and dumping her body. That suspect is now charged with murder. A judge ordered Roger Stone to stay off social media. The longtime friend of President Trump was back in court for a hearing. The judge found he violated a gag order. Stone is charged in his special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation. He's accused of lying to lawmakers and witness tampering. Prosecutors argued Stone violated a court order by making Instagram posts disparaging the Mueller investigation. Fifty years ago today, Apollo 11 launched to put the first man on the moon. Today we have another look at the history surrounding this landmark event. The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum unveiled astronaut Neil Armstrong's refurbished space suit. Emphasis on refurbished. It's the one he wore when he walked on the moon. This was made from a combination of 12 synthetic materials with up to 21 layers. Museum staff say Armstrong wore this for about 12 hours. I will take that over a firework show any day. That was 5000 model rockets blasted into the air at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. They're honoring the Apollo launch anniversary with this world record attempt for the number of rockets launched at the same time. Many of the spectators were children with a big interest in what was going on around them. How could you not be interested? Well, that goes shooting into the air, but really we should be interested in the first alert action day. Yeah, we have a jam packed week ahead of us. First alert action day not only tomorrow, but a second one on Monday. So lots to talk about, but we're seeing some action already right now. Thunderstorms firing up all across the area down in Santa Cruz, Cochise County, even in part across parts of the metro. So as we zoom in, taking a closer look, Casas, Adobe's Mount Lemon, Tucson, East Speedway Boulevard, seeing some showers. But luckily these thunderstorms are helping us with these temperatures cooling us down. Now I know one oh one doesn't seem too cool, but when we topped out at 110 degrees today, yeah, I'll take that 90 degrees in Sierra Vista right now. Ninety three and Nogales 95 for you, Douglas. But like I said, we reached a high of 110 degrees today, so tying that record that we set back in 2003. Not only that, but this is marking the hottest day that we've seen so far this year. It was that one oh nine, but we just beat that average temperature 100 so significantly above that. But like I said, these thunderstorms do help cool us down, especially with some of those outflow winds going to be one of the big threats as we continue to see those thunderstorms roll through the area later on this evening. But I want to talk about this because of the heat. We do have an excessive heat warning still in place through eight o'clock tonight because as you saw temperatures ranging from 107 to 116 from Tucson up through Casa Grande, Phoenix, stretching all the way out towards Yuma. So this is going to be the last day. Luckily that we see this extreme heat temperature is going to be falling a little bit closer to average as we head throughout the rest of the week. So we talk temperatures. Let's talk rain. First, Lord Action Day not only tomorrow, but Monday as we see an increase in that thunderstorm coverage across the area. So with this threat is going to be once again heavy downpours, gusty winds and frequent lightning similar to what we're seeing already right now. With that, be mindful as you're heading into the week. Roadways might be slick. We could possibly see some ponding on the roadways of something to be mindful of. And then we'll just see some isolated to scattered activity Thursday, Friday, Saturday into Sunday. But then come Monday, we ramp those rain chances up once again. Fifty percent of the area going to be getting in on that action. Biggest concerns, like I said, going to be that flooding, gusty outflow wind, pea sized hail. So not really too much of that. Some isolated pockets blowing dust as well. Here's a look at your seven day, though. Eighty one degrees tonight. So really not much relief as that sun sets. Overnight lows are going to fall, though, into the upper seventies and stay there for the rest of the week. Thirty percent chance to still see some of these thunderstorms firing up across the area this evening. And then that increases even more by tomorrow with that first alert action day and really rain chances each and every day from here on out. So these next few days definitely going to be active before we see a little bit of a lull in the activity. Then come Monday and we'll do it all over again. This is exactly why we have an entire section of our Web site dedicated to Monsoon 2019. Definitely going to be busy. You got to be ready. Well, after almost 10 day, five foot long alligator has finally been captured in Chicago. You don't want no problems with this reptile dubbed Chance the Snapper. Oh, boy. He showed up last week at a pond at a park. Wildlife expert from where else but Florida helped reel him in this morning. Investigators still don't know how Chance ended up in the park, but they suspect he was someone's illegal pet. Now the gator will live out his days in a zoo or a sanctuary. Maybe maybe just get channel there a coloring book. Diaper changes aren't just for moms. Dads are doing them too. And now one diaper company has caught on. This is a legal alert for users of Roundup Weed Killer. In July 2018, a judge determined that all federal lawsuits could move forward against Monsanto, the maker of Roundup Weed Killer, over concerns that those exposed are at risk for developing non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. And in three landmark verdicts, the most recent in May of 2019 for $2 billion, one in March 2019 for $80 million, and another in August 2018 for $289 million, it was concluded that Roundup was responsible for the plaintiff's non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Roundup Weed Killer is the most commonly used weed killer in American agriculture, with an estimated 85 to 90 million pounds used each year. If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma after being exposed to Roundup or a glyphosate herbicide, you may be entitled to compensation. Damien Alameda here. On the day he celebrates his 17th birthday, today, South Point Lancer stud Lathan Ransom instead sent a big gift basket to Buckeye Nation when he announced via social media his verbal commitment to play college ball at The Ohio State University. The four star, 6'1", 195 pounder who also ranks as the second best safety in the class of 2020 posted a nearly two minute long video announcing his decision. Lathan chose the Buckeyes over LSU, Oklahoma, Texas and Notre Dame. This after taking two visits to Columbus, the last of which was just a few weeks ago in late June, right before the dead period. Last season he racked up 82 total tackles on defense, 53 of them solo finishing with 5.9 tackles per game. He also finished with six touchdowns and 625 yards receiving. So with Lathan now booked as a Buckeye, all eyes turned to his childhood friend and South Point teammate, five star running back, Bajon Robinson, who is supposed to announce his verbal commitment Friday, August 2nd, and wouldn't know it. Bajon's narrowed his two choices down to either Texas or, wait for it, The Ohio State University. Speaking of star local athletes, Tucsonan and U of A Wildcat diver Delaney Schnell qualified for the 10 meter finals of the FINA World Diving Championships. Furthermore, by finishing eighth, she guaranteed that the U.S. will represent in the 10 meter dive for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Countries are allotted just two quota spots for Olympic diving. In other words, her eighth place finish ensures that the country will participate, although it does not mean Delaney will compete, but it does get her one step closer. The finals are tomorrow.
