For the second time in less than a year, people who live in the Shawnee Mission School District of Johnson County
will vote Tuesday, November the 10th on whether to pay additional taxes for the schools.
In March, the voters said yes to higher property taxes for teachers' salaries and other operating expenses.
At issue this time is a $21.5 million bond program and higher taxes to pay off the bonds.
Those bonds would finance two new elementary schools in the area of Shawnee and Lonexa,
plus renovation and expansion of five other schools.
The need reflects continued growth in the district.
A substantial part of that growth can be traced to the attraction of good schools.
And it seems to us that now is not the time to back away from a long record of support for the schools.
Channel 9 urges a vote of approval for the Shawnee Mission School bonds on November the 10th.
