right now on Cairo seven news. The father of a high school student in Auburn is coming forward with video of his son attacked in a school bathroom. Auburn police took another student to juvenile detention for the incident. Good evening. I'm Aaron right and I'm Monique Ming Lawvin. Karen seven's Graham Johnson is live at Auburn High School right now and Graham, we saw this video earlier in the newsroom. We really should warn people this is pretty tough to watch. It absolutely is. It happened here last Friday, Monique, the victim's dad called 911 and later emailed us every time I see the video, I just get mad. This seven second video shows Jerome Lovalli's 14 year old son beaten up in a bathroom at Auburn High School. The beating went on further than the video. He was completely set up. Auburn police tell us a dispute over a girl led to the incident, which included other students blocking the door to the restroom so the victim couldn't leave and someone taking this video. The kid that attacked him was he thought was a friend. You've seen the video. He has his hands in his pockets. He had no idea what was about to happen. Police say the primary assailant and the victim are both students at West Auburn High School, where the video was quickly sent around, including to the victim. The students were at Auburn High School to change buses. Our kids should be safe going to school. Lovalli says he called 911 after arriving at the school. Auburn police say officers took the primary assailant to juvenile detention on charges that include robbery because the victims air pods were stolen. Lovalli says his son suffered a concussion and more threats. I can't send him back to school like this. The Auburn School district says the school resource officer and administrators are investigating and that the involved students will face appropriate discipline. District officials wrote to us that safety is their highest priority. Live in Auburn, Graham Johnson, Cairo seven news. All right, Graham, thank you. We'll continue to follow this story and you can get this report and new developments in the Cairo seven app turning live now to Seattle. You know, we've got a fair amount of sun. It looks like a beautiful spring day out there, but lately it hasn't really felt like spring. Yeah, it's just been, you know, hit or miss where you are when you're there. Morgan Palmer here with as we're trying to figure this thing out. Yes, up in the mountains. This is the day it paralyzed up at 5400 ft on Mount Rainier, some snow even this afternoon. A few snowflakes trying to come down there. They were, but still we're getting temperatures to get into the mid to upper fifties. Okay, later on this week we'll have some days in the lower fifties. Eventually down the road, we're going to get warmer temperatures, but it's going to be another week before we really start to see a lot more days in the sixties. The pinpoint storm tracker out there tonight with a band of rain with occasional heavier downpours, even with a little bit of small hail around fall city incarnation just to the southeast of well just to the southeast of Clearview and Maltby, possibly a little bit of small hail there, not too far away from bridal trails and then across northern parts of Kitsap County around Silverdale toward Paul's Bone Banger. Also some areas of rain with a little small hail possible, and we've seen some pockets of that in Pierce County as well around Bonnie Lake. Those have fizzled out, and that's some good news because we did have a little hail across Pierce County a bit ago. You can track this on the Cairo seven pinpoint weather wrap and also any lightning strikes that happen near your location. You'll get an alert if you have those enabled, but I don't expect too much in the way of that into the day tomorrow. I'm tracking the rain chances coming up. Morgan, thank you. West Seattle neighborhood is working on a petition for changes to what they're calling a dangerous intersection. It's an area where just days ago a man lost his life. He was hit and killed on California Avenue southwest near southwest Finley. Police say he's not the first person to be struck there. Cairo seven's Deborah Horn is live in West Seattle. Deborah, this deadly accident has people in that neighborhood struggling right now. Aaron, that's because they said that they feared something like this would happen. This is the intersection they're talking about. They say it needs to be something different. Friday night, their worst fear came true. A man dashed across California Avenue southwest. He wasn't in the crosswalk and he was struck. Now they say they want something done before something like that happens again. Even in the light of day, we watched as people dashed across California Avenue southwest, making it to the other side just in time. But neighbors say they have witnessed those who didn't make it. It's not the first time no one stops here. Um, late at night, people are hitting like 60 miles per hour. Jamie DeWalt says she and her neighbors are starting a petition to get the city of Seattle to take action. I would specifically like to touch on getting a light here, getting a speed bump, getting something. This isn't the first time a woman got hit and thankfully survived not too long ago. A man was not as lucky Friday night. He was struck and killed as he and two companions ran across the middle of California Avenue southwest. The first 911 call about the accident came in at 10.01 PM. But moments later, it's hopefully now is shooting the color. Her to side in the crash in the female yellow. She's been shot all around. Everyone was screaming. Everyone was like, what's taking so long? Where are they? Where they were was a few blocks away waiting for Seattle police. In a statement, a spokeswoman for Seattle Fire says when there is a report of shots fired, their protocol is to wait for police to clear the scene. It took forever. Neighbor Charlie Austin says he ran over to the man seconds after he was struck. But he says he understands why the medics waited. But yet we needed him to get here like right away, like immediately. In fact, it took 15 long minutes for Seattle Fire medics to arrive. Now, residents tell us they are signing, getting signatures for a petition because they want to see change. They say that is the only way to prevent another tragedy from happening here. Reporting live in West Seattle, Deborah Horn, Carol Seven News appears County burglary suspect is killed in a fire that deputies say he set himself. The fire in University Place also destroyed a horse trailer. This happened at a home on Orchard Street West around 7 40 last night. The homeowner told police the suspect tried to push his way into their home, then ran off into the woods. A little while later, appears County Sheriff's deputies spotted the man breaking into the horse trailer while waiting for backup. The deputies saw smoke coming from that trailer, but the man refused to come out. Puyallup canine and I was just like, what the heck? Look over crap ton of smoke coming up. It's definitely concerning because this is a fairly safe, quiet neighborhood and we just thought that it was a fire that started. Didn't really know the why West Pierce firefighters put out that fire. Deputies say the man was found dead inside the trailer. Now the Pierce County medical examiner is trying to figure out who that man was over the weekend. A soldier stationed at Joint Base Louis McCord was killed in a car crash. JBLM has not identified the soldier, according to the News Tribune. Graham Fire and Rescue crews responded to a report of a car hitting a utility pole around 4 30 p.m. It happened on Rice Candle Road near Rice Candle Road East near Elk Plain. So far, there are no further details on how the accident happened. New at six Seattle public schools will pay a student a $3 million settlement after she was sexually abused by a former girls soccer coach at Ballard High School. The coach was eventually convicted of child molestation and sexual misconduct of a minor, and she is now a registered sex offender. Turning now to the pandemic, Children under five could get their first covid 19 vaccine sooner than expected. The FDA says it's considering bumping up its authorizations target date to late june. A spokesperson says the process is taking longer because there are more steps involved, including a unique trial period for the multiple variants circulating going in depth. The CDC says only about 35% of Children aged 5 to 11 have gotten vaccinated in Washington state. That number is 36% 32% in that age group are fully vaccinated for kids 12 to 15 59% have gotten their first dose and 54% are fully vaccinated. And for ages 16 and 17 67% have started their vaccinations with 62% fully vaccinated. Well, starting this fall, a new waterfront tourist and family attraction will be built here in Seattle right next to the great wheel and next to miners landing. It's a brand new pier with enough space for a big big playground, outdoor movies and even concerts. I'm Gary Horkert, the Kyra seven live desk. Now remember when the old Pier 58 collapsed a couple years ago because it was so dilapidated way back when that pier was known as waterfront park. Well, the new Pier 58 will replace that old one in that same location. The city of Seattle announced today a 34.5 million dollar project for a new pier, which will include a marine habitat sensitive design, a shaded tree grove and a lawn. And it will also include an iconic sea life playground for kids and families. It'll take about two years to build that new pier. Now this contract also includes the removal of that old Pier 63. That pier has been closed for five years. It's also very dilapidated and we're told that space will improve the marine ecosystem because more sunlight will grow more plants there and attract more fish at the Kyra seven live desk tonight. I'm Gary Horkert. Burglary's are becoming a bigger problem. We're digging into the ways you can keep yourself and your family safe and the common mistakes that might be making you a target. A massive fire at a strange building caught by Chopper seven Snohomish regional fire says it looks like a silo, but it's actually a house. It's not clear if anyone was using it. They think it was abandoned, but they do know it's a total loss. The steep, muddy area made it difficult to get to the fire, so they're letting it burn. Thankfully, because of that mud, there's little concern that this fire will spread. A recent Seattle police survey found people's top concerns last year were theft, burglary and break ins all tied in with homelessness, and it's easy to understand the concern. Look here, there was a burglary every 13 minutes statewide in 2020. That's according to the Washington Association of Sheriff's and police chiefs. So we're digging into the best ways to keep your home safe. There's lots of cheap, easy ways to do this. Jennifer Danner is SPD's crime prevention coordinator for the Southwest precinct. She says for outside lighting use bulbs that are a bright white color, not the orange kind that allows your neighbors to accurately see people who might be trying to break in their hair color, their clothing, their vehicle color as well. And take a look at the greenery around your home. Don't block the windows. If you have trees, trim the canopy so it ends above the windows and with your shrubs and bushes below the windows and add one more security measure to every point of entry. Exterior doors or doors that go from inside our home to outside our home should always have a deadbolt at least one that bolt. So some doors. This includes a door between your garage into your home. That door is often forgotten and she advises people to upgrade their strike plates. That's the metal piece. The deadbolt goes into when you've locked the door. Danner recommends putting in four inch long screws to really secure it to your door frame for sliding windows. Use a metal or wood rod, a dowel to prevent a burglar from sliding it open. You can also buy something called a track lock. She says those can be around just 3-5 dollars each. Now, a big item people usually think of for home security of course is cameras. But Danner says they're not as helpful as you might think, especially if you're not taking additional steps once you've installed them. We'll have more on that and other technology to protect your home tomorrow. It was six after a decades old body was found in receding Lake Mead. Authorities in Las Vegas have found more human remains. Two sisters were paddle boarding on the Colorado River Reservoir when they spotted bones Saturday. We've got an update to the breaking news. We told you about it. Five. The former jail officer and the inmate have also been accused of having a romantic relationship for about two years. Investigators say they've been planning for the planning this escape for months. We'll continue to track this story and bring you updates as they come in. We told you Friday that after six weeks of work, the magic moment in the north cascades finally happened. Crews from the east and the west sides met, marking the complete clearing of S. R. 20. Now crews are putting the finishing touches on the roadway and they plan on opening it all up tomorrow. They say it took longer than usual because of the cooler spring weather. And that's really something we've all felt no matter where you are. Goodness, this weekend brought a little bit of something between the chill, the clouds, the sun. I haven't put away any of my heavy jackets. Seriously, every dog out there is like shivering because it's been so chilly, especially in the overnight early morning hours, temperatures in the daytime and nighttime. Well about where we ought to be for this time of year. This is a live look at the summit of snow quality. Tonight we have looks like a few snowflakes, a few flurries at least coming down there. I want to give you an update on the snowpack in the mountains. The snowpack numbers. Here we are 144% of normal 100 is normal on this snowpack water map. So we're running above average on snowpack throughout all of our mountain ranges and it's going to even be melting away so slow so slowly. That is good news for our water supplies for the upcoming season and for the fire season as well. 53 degrees and ever 56 degrees and ever today 54 in fork. So temperature is quite a bit cooler than we ought to be. We ought to have a lot of sixties on that map. A few showers around tomorrow, some more sun one on the pinpoint storm tracker scale, just a minor impacts to travel. That's what that indicates across Kitsap County. A little bit of rain still around Bremerton back just to the north of C. Beck toward Paul's bow. Also in parts of King and Snohomish counties. A few showers around from Maltby and Clearview down to the east of Bothell and Woodinville and then around Lakes of Amish. Some rain continuing. Here's the Kitsap County view with the rain also continuing to come down. Undoubtedly, we've had some ponding water on roads, areas around Silverdale and back toward the naval base there at Bangor and then also across parts of Pierce County. Some rain coming down this evening. A lot of areas have received as much rain as we normally get in an entire month of May in just the first nine days. Tomorrow we'll have a few more showers, morning temperatures, upper thirties, lower forties highs tomorrow, upper fifties, very, very similar to today. A few showers will bubble up in the afternoon, but that we could have an isolated area of rain early in the day. But afternoon, a few showers will start on Wednesday. We have a better chance of rain late in the day as a weather system comes on in. So that's going to be a little bit of a change on the coolest day this week is going to be Thursday, only 53 in Seattle with morning rain turning to showers over the weekend. More rain comes back Saturday, tapering and finally back in the sixties by Sunday. I Morgan, thank you.
