And at 10, a dangerous night of tornadoes in Arkansas, the 4-Worn Storm Team with that. Plus, how your frequent flyer miles can help you get big bargains and everything from flowers and magazines to clothes. We'll explain right now at 10. Expect the news first. This is Oklahoma's News Channel 4 at 10. It's one of the top consumer complaints in the country, getting billed for something you didn't want. Tonight, Brad Edwards goes in your corner with a warning. Plus, they patrol the skies ready for anything that comes their way. Things can go from zero to 100 miles an hour in two seconds. Tonight, our Homefront Security Task Force takes you along an AWACS mission that's like no other. And a series of home invasions has many Oklahomans on alert tonight. On the Night Beat, how you can protect yourself when crime is knocking on your door. And we'll have those stories in just a moment. But we begin tonight at 10 with a story that has many sooner fans talking. There was a major surprise in college football today. And now the question is, what will it mean for the defending national champion Oklahoma Sooners? Sports Director Bob Berry Jr. joining us now to make some sense out of a real shocker, Bobby. Where to make your plans? Where do you travel? Where do you go, Tammy? That's the big question tonight. Nebraska has been the top ranked football team in America in the Bowl championship series for the past month. And today they played in Boulder against Colorado for the Big 12 North Division title and a trip to Texas for the Big 12 championship game a week from tomorrow night. But this is what happened all day long. Colorado ripped up and down the field on Nebraska, upsetting the Huskers 62 to 36, the most points Nebraska has ever allowed in a single football game. So, Colorado wins the North and goes to Irving, Texas for next week's Big 12 title game. That means if OU beats OSU in Norman tomorrow, they'll play Colorado next week instead of the rematch against Nebraska everybody thought would happen. And the Sooners won't get the quality win points in the BCS poll by beating the Buffs. They would have gotten by knocking off higher ranked Nebraska since Nebraska is ranked higher than Colorado. Or are they? They got hammered today. Bottom line, Colorado's victory today hurt OU a little bit in their chances to get to the Rose Bowl and play for a second straight national championship. We'll go over more of this mess later in sports. But there are a lot of games to be played by a lot of teams. Still, OU's travel plan is up in the air right now. A lot going on. We'll stay tuned. Lots of speculation. Love it. Thanks, Bob. Now, first weather from the forewarned storm team. We have a nice night here in central Oklahoma. The rain has now moved out. Cool temperatures outside. Take a look at the readings here in central Oklahoma. And we're talking about mainly some upper 40s and some lower 50s. Looks like we have a very quiet night in store across a good part of central Oklahoma. But that is not the story over in Arkansas and far eastern Oklahoma. An outbreak of November severe weather, including tornadoes, damaging tornadoes in western Arkansas tonight. And here's a zoomed in view on the forewarned edge. There's Tulsa. There's Oklahoma City. Eastbound I-40, Fort Smith, Arkansas, western Arkansas, and several very large tornadic supercells, the worst of which hit near 745, the town of Altus, Arkansas, also north of Clarksville, Arkansas, near Weedaker Winery and Ozark, Arkansas. All had near hits from tornadoes or have sustained tornado damage tonight. Reports of possible injuries there as well. Lance, we'll update that forecast and another look at that severe weather tonight coming up in just a few minutes. Alright, Mike, thank you. And update now on breaking news we first brought you last night at 10. That's when police were called to this home near Northwest 32nd in Pennsylvania. Several masked gunmen were inside but escaped. Earlier this morning, this man, Johnny Johnson, was arrested while driving a stolen vehicle. Police believe he is an accomplice in that home invasion. And today they surrounded Johnson's apartment. Police believed his roommate and two other suspects were inside. But when police made entry, nobody was there after all. They're following up leads at this time. Hopefully the search warrant here will yield some information that will help in locating the other suspects. And police believe those three suspects to be armed and dangerous and still in the metro tonight. All of these home invasions have police on high alert and police say it should have you on high alert as well. But how can you protect yourself and keep from becoming the next victim in a home invasion? Nishanta Forge, Rashaun and Tate is on the nightly. She joins us live from Northwest Oklahoma City with more Rashaun Dax. Well Tammy, you know, like most people, I'm pretty good about asking who is it whenever someone rings the doorbell. But like most people, I also make a crucial mistake and simply open my door even when I don't know who it is on the other side. Well, police are hoping this recent ring of home invasions will help people be more careful about who they open their doors for. And when he got ready to go, he come into my bed again and he said, I just come in to kill you. And I said, please don't take my life. The minute I opened the door, the guy came around from the side of the house with a gun pointing at me. I was praying hard not to be killed. Their stories of terror are different. The motives behind that terror the same. All of these ladies had the comfort of their home violated during a home invasion. Five reported home invasions in the last four weeks. Some more brutal than others, all seemingly Randall Mack's. Police say now more than ever, residents need to be wary of who they open their doors for. If you don't know somebody, ask for credentials, some type of ID to verify who they are. Three armed men were able to burst into Michelle Boutillon's home after his wife opened the door thinking she knew who was there. Some girl was banging on the front door. She thought she recognized one of her friends. So she opened real fast and it happened she pointed a gun at her. That's why police say be sure before opening your door. Peoples are a good idea indoors so that they can look out or windows that they can look out to see who is at the door prior to opening up the door. And don't immediately be swayed just because the person on the other side claims to be a salesman or utility worker. You're still not comfortable with that. Call the business that they're from or place of employment and verify that they have people working in that area. But do not open doors for someone you do not know. Now all of these home invasions took place in various neighborhoods, so no one specific area is being targeted. That's why you can become a victim of a home invasion no matter where you live. Back to you. Rashonda Tay reporting live for us. Thank you. With the exception of the home invasions on November 10th where several different homes were hit, all of these crimes have been committed by different people. And a victory tonight involving Operation Enduring Freedom. A spokesman for the Northern Alliance says his forces have taken a northern Afghan town just east of Kunduz without a fight. Also tonight, Northern Alliance and Taliban officials say the Taliban in Kunduz will lay down their arms and that's expected on Sunday. And American warplanes continue bombing in the area surrounding Kunduz. And NATO military planes are patrolling our skies tonight as part of homeland security. Five NATO reconnaissance planes are monitoring American airspace for potential threats. And today we are given a rare opportunity to fly with these NATO crews as they take part in this international war on terrorism. Long before the sun even comes up, this NATO crew is defending U.S. borders. Their job is aerial surveillance, patrolling the sky for any unusual activity. If it's busy, it's very exciting because you have people's lives in the line. You're not only going to the enemy, now you've got to keep all the hundreds of the airplanes from hitting each other. So as long as they're coming within 25 miles of us, we start watching them. Considering the events of September 11th, it's an important and necessary mission. It's not more like they're doing in Afghanistan, but still it's a homeland defense which is very important. They will spend 12 hours in the sky today. That means a midair rendezvous with a tanker for 90,000 pounds of fuel. It's basically like a gas station in the sky. This crew has already completed dozens of missions since arriving to Tinker two months ago. Most have been uneventful. Things can go from zero to 100 miles an hour in two seconds. Like a recent bomb threat on board a commercial jet, they directed fighters to escort that airliner to an airport for inspection. We felt pretty calm about that, that we didn't have to take any action about shooting this airplane out. Believe me, if that order had came down for us to shoot that airplane, it would have been pretty hard for us to make that call. But this 17-member crew is trained for anything and prepared to do whatever is necessary to keep our borders safe. That NATO crew is based out of Germany. They'll be returning home on Sunday, but will be replaced right away by another crew to patrol our skies. Well, the day after Thanksgiving means one thing to many people. A new set shop tonight. Many stores are still open and packed with shoppers. Many merchants say they're surprised to see the thousands and thousands of people at area malls. Parents got up early and ran to toy stores to buy the latest toy and to get ideas for Santa. The owner of number one fan was taken off guard by today's crowd. I honestly didn't know what to expect this year. And, you know, I ordered light, preparing for the worst, and it looks like things are going to be better than last year. Well, Roger now says he'll get on the phone first thing Monday to order more merchandise. Those holiday bills will soon start rolling in, and many consumers will likely find charges for things they never even ordered. According to the federal government, consumer complaints about unordered goods and services are skyrocketing. And major retail stores, banks, and credit card companies are getting in on this marketing game. Tonight, Brad Edwards goes in your quarter to find out if you're paying for unwanted things without even knowing about it. Clever sales pitch comes by phone or in the mail. I think that almost every one of us are being duped every single day. And before you know it, you're charged for something you never wanted. Amy and Tryon Woolworth say they got one of those crafty calls when a telemarketer asked them to join a buying club. I didn't end up joining the club because I never received anything in the mail. Yet they were charged for the club anyway, nearly $70, billed by a reputable retail store. Consumers nationwide are being bombarded with these surprise charges. In the past few years alone, legal action has been taken in at least a dozen states against all kinds of businesses. Complaints to the Federal Trade Commission are soaring. The complaints the commission received on unordered merchandise rose 169%. Who's behind the sales pitches? Major retailers, credit card companies, even banks offering goods and services to consumers through telemarketers. The FTC says this slick way of selling can be legal. It's not only to the seller but also to consumers. But the FTC says the problem comes when marketers fail to disclose details or are too vague, leaving consumers in the dark. The commission wants to make sure that the consumers have the opportunity to find the information and to understand the information. Small mouse print doesn't cut it. And Brad says if you'd like to know more about how to protect yourself from being billed for unwanted goods and services, just log on to our website at kfor.com and then click on to the No More icon. Coming up... Many people rack up thousands of frequent flyer miles, but for what? Chances are you won't be using them for a trip to Hawaii. But did you know you can cash in your miles on all sorts of bargains? I use miles to pay for 10% of this outfit. Of what you're wearing? Yes. Turning miles into money, next. This evening's rain and wind here in the Metro has now cleared a good part of Oklahoma. Arkansas, hard hit by severe weather tonight. How's this weather system going to affect your weekend forecast? We'll have it next. Monday at 6. Migraines can be a debilitating problem and they're often a mystery. But doctors have discovered that for some, exercise may be triggering the pain. We'll have details. Monday at 6 on Oklahoma's News Channel 4. Don't miss... If you've traveled on an airplane, used a credit card, pumped gas, or made a phone call recently, chances are you've earned frequent flyer miles. Companies use the added mile bonus, of course, to entice you to spend money, but did you know there are many ways of cashing in on those miles without even leaving your house? Get out your pen and paper because tonight we have news that could save you money. Take a trip, pump some gas, buy groceries, rent a car, just about anything you do, you can earn airline miles. The hard part is using them. You want to go to Des Moines at 3 o'clock in the morning? You're in. You want to go to Hawaii any time in your lifetime? Problem. So you've got a lot of people out there who have accumulated a lot of hard earned and heavily spent miles. I mean, they spent a lot of money for those miles and they're getting angry. So you have these services that have been started to help them redeem miles for merchandise or services. Marcia Gamel has mileage bargains in her closet, around the house, and on her coffee table. I'm not paying a penny for these magazines. My miles pay for 100% for my subscription for the whole year. She does it through a site called milepoint.com. Today, even if you only have a thousand miles in your account, at two cents a mile that equates to $20 in purchasing power through milepoint. Milepoint.com isn't the only place that lets you use miles for merchandise. American Airlines and AOL have teamed up to let their frequent flyers cash their miles in. Everything from blenders to Britney Spears, all payable with miles. Hilton Hotels lets you convert airline miles to honors points, then redeem them in their new holiday catalog. And at points.com, you can use airline miles to buy free long distance, flower deliveries and gift certificates from major department stores. This has really found money. Well, if you're like Marcia, your airline miles are scattered around many different airlines. If you don't collect enough on one airline for a free ticket, they'll all go to waste. So remember, a dollar is always worth a dollar and it never has an expiration date. What's a mile worth? That's up to whoever offers it. So before you cash in, do the math. He's known for hits like Cracklin' Rose, Song, Song Blue, and Turn on Your Heartlight. Tonight, legendary recording artist Neil Diamond performed right here in Oklahoma City on his worldwide tour. The dynamic singer performed in front of thousands of fans tonight at the Myriad Convention Center. He sang several songs from his new CD, as well as several of Tammy's personal favorites. If you missed tonight's performance, Diamond's new essential CD will be released on December 4th. It'll be a compilation that will include live tracks recorded on his current tour. Accurate, dependable, reliable. The forewarned Storm Teams' Mike Morgan. I'm a Neil Diamond fan. I admit it. Really. 30 years plus and going strong, Neil Diamond. Our weather has been pretty tough in parts of Oklahoma. Let's get right into it. There's a lot going on tonight. Let's take a look at the broad view on the forewarned edge. That windy rain that came through the metro about 7 o'clock was just the beginning of a severe weather outbreak in far eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas. We're going to show you around 745 this evening near the town of Altus, Arkansas. That is east of Fort Smith, north of Clarksville, Ozark, Arkansas, and near the Weedikir Winery. Some Oklahomans visit that occasionally over in the western parts of that state. We do have reports of folks being pulled from damaged homes. And I-40 in Franklin County, Arkansas is temporarily closed due to traffic accidents from tornado debris on Interstate 40. No reports of any fatalities right now, but if you have friends or loved ones near Clarksville or Altus, Arkansas, you might want to give them a call tonight and make sure they are okay. Oklahoma today, well Cherokee had the most sun. It was the coldest in Beaver this morning. Westville, over near the Arkansas border, had nearly an inch and a half of rain. Tulsa had quarter size hail. Stigler had a 55 mile per hour wind. And Ida Belle, hoping to fuel that severe weather, was near 80 degrees for a high today. In the metro right now, skies are mostly clear. Temperatures are on the cool side, 51 degrees right now, but it's quiet. South wind at 16 miles per hour, 86 percent humidity. Pressure, 29.32, very low there. And it's falling as we have a strong, very low pressure just north of us tonight. Our daytime high temperature with the sunshine, what a beautiful day. 72 degrees, 56 was the morning low temperature, cooler than that now. And 11 hundredths of an inch of rain at the airport earlier this evening. 48 currently in El Reno. Guthrie has 50 along with Purcell and 51 right now over in Shawnee. And it looks like temperatures are mainly in the 60s in far eastern Oklahoma, but dropping through the 40s in the northwestern parts of our state, even 36 degrees. Right now in Guymon, cold front moving through northwestern Oklahoma. So breezy and cooler statewide tomorrow morning. You can see the thunderstorms really blossom in eastern Oklahoma. Look at this outbreak here, a very impressive November severe storms just to the east of Oklahoma City being fueled by a very powerful jet stream aloft. And this same jet stream is going to push all of this severe weather rapidly eastward. In case you have travel plans that direction by morning, it'll be past St. Louis and Little Rock moving quickly away. From the southern plains, but behind the storm system, here comes the Oklahoma wind out of the west and northwest strong and gusty tomorrow morning and diminishing a bit during the afternoon for the OUOSU game. But do expect a lot of wind tomorrow and cooler temperatures, mostly upper fifties and low sixties for highs. Most of the rain is now cleared Oklahoma. Still a few showers up near Fairview tonight, but they're not amounting to very much. Low temperatures by morning, 53 McAllister to 33 in Guymon. And here's your Saturday. A chance of a few light showers in northern Oklahoma, a bit more clouds in this part of the state also and cooler temperatures. Some middle fifties and then near sixty here in central Oklahoma and some middle sixties in the southern parts of our state. The winds 15 to 30 and gusty, especially in the morning and early afternoon. For the Metro, 45 by morning, 55 by midday and windy and 61 degrees. My forecast high. The pick day for Tammy's Christmas lights will be on Sunday. That's a good day there. Thirty-six for a low and 65 for a high. Chance of thunderstorms Monday and right now it looks like. And we'll keep our fingers crossed on this one. Tuesday night, Wednesday morning of next week in Oklahoma City. Right now it will snow. Got the muntankle, so I've got to start. Yeah, there you go. And if it snows by Tuesday night, you'll be in good shape for your Christmas lights. Mike's saying this sports Bob Berry Jr. will try again to straighten out all the college football national championship chase after a crazy day in Colorado. It appears the Sooners will play another team before the Big 12 title, unless, of course, OSU upsets them tomorrow. But there was a shocker in Boulder. Now, video sports with Bob Berry Jr. Not only are the Nebraska Cornhuskers out of the national championship hunt, they won't even play in the Big 12 championship game because Chris Brown went nuts today, as did the Colorado Buffalos on their home field in Boulder. They were 10-point underdogs. They beat Nebraska by 26 and scored the most points ever in the history of any team against Nebraska. 62 to 36. That number 22 there is Chris Brown. He scored six touchdowns as Colorado shocked Nebraska, the first loss of the year for the Huskers. Wow, the next Bowl championship series poll won't be released until Monday at 1 o'clock, but Oklahoma should move up a notch into Rose Bowl room, if you will, as long as OU can handle OSU tomorrow in Norman. Now, here's the projected BCS rankings for next week if the top two teams win tomorrow. Miami should be number one. OU may be up to second, Florida third, and the big question is how far will Nebraska drop after that loss to Colorado? Remember, the Huskers were number one four weeks in a row. We think they will fall to fourth. And here are the remaining games for the top three. Miami hosts Washington tomorrow, and then the Canes travel to Virginia Tech a week from Saturday. Miami is expected to win both of those, finish 11-0. They don't have a conference championship game, so they'll go to the Rose Bowl ranked number one, probably. The Sooners should beat OSU tomorrow, and then they'll play surprising Colorado now, a week from Saturday in the Big 12 title game. But if OU would have played and beaten a higher ranked Nebraska team in that game, they would get more quality win points than a victory over Colorado. And that could open the door for Florida to jump past OU into second in the BCS poll, because the Gators have Tennessee, a much stronger foe than OSU, at home a week from tomorrow in a game they could lose. Then Florida will play in the SEC title game December the 8th against LSU or Auburn, which wouldn't earn the quality win points the Sooners would get over Colorado, because Colorado is higher ranked than either LSU or Auburn. Well, all the info will be spit into computers and spit back out, and the bottom line is it's simply too early to tell. Miami seems like a sure thing for the Rose Bowl, but their opponent is to be determined, and we'll have complete coverage of the Bedlam Series battle between the Sooners and Cowboys tomorrow at 6 and 10. The game kicks off at 2.30 in Norman and on national TV. Back with Vanchay Ivan's series on Big 12 basketball right after this. Then on Conan, Ashton Kutcher, Doris Roberts, Jewel, and Holiday Cheer tonight. Those Friday night heroes continue in playoff action, quarterfinals tonight in some of the smaller classes. And we have four games in fact. Class 2A quarters, Davis advances. They beat Beggs 14-10. You follow on their way to a win against Cole Court in Class A. Belma Alma ended Crooked Oak. Season Crooked Oak was 12-0 until tonight. And Hominy advances with a 37-0 win over Commerce. We continue tonight with Vanchet Ivan's series on Big 12 basketball, Hooping it Up. Last night he showed you Sherry Cole's Oklahoma women's team. Tonight it's a glance at Dick Halterman's Oklahoma State Cowgirls for this season. Oklahoma State has had to fight through injuries for two straight seasons. But late last year, they jailed and made a run into the quarterfinals of the women's NIT. With 94% of their scoring returning, being picked ninth in the conference appears to be a little too low. There's always a factor of respect, you know, lack of. But being picked ninth, I mean, it's not really a big factor. It's a motivating factor if anything to get back to the top where we want to be. The Cowgirls' best player hasn't even suited up for a year and a half. Tari Cummings tore up her knee in 99 and sat out last season to become a mother. But Tari is back and better than ever. I had unfinished business to handle for one. And then I made a commitment to Coach Halterman that I was going to come back. I've been out for almost two years, you know, and just being off last year for one, not playing at all, going to games and watching, you know, just made me more hungry to come back. We've got what we need at every position to be able to compete this year at an awful high level. I think it might be as talented a team as we've ever put on the floor in the 19 years that I've been at Oklahoma State. Whether they can reach a sweet 16 or not, I don't know, but it's a very talented team with a chance to win, I think, every time they step on the floor. That's saying something considering the Cowgirls have 10 games on their schedule against teams ranked in the top 25. Six seniors are on the roster and hope to make their last year in Stillwater a good one. What would that mean? How about a trip to the Big Dance for the first time since 1996? And tonight, OSU's women beat Weber State 77-64 at a tournament in Hawaii. Nice place to be. Banshee's series continues Sunday when he looks at Eddie Sutton's Oklahoma State men's basketball bunch. And the OU women ranked third in the nation are playing at a tournament in San Antonio. They embarrassed Butler tonight 90-44. They're really good. They will play again against North Texas tomorrow night in San Antonio. Another fun place to be this time of year. Look for highlights tomorrow, Bobby. The weather's going to be normal, right? Yes, and it'll be a little breezy tomorrow and just a bit cool. Might want to take a windbreaker if you're headed to the game, 61 for a high. The wind's pretty strong. A cold snap coming up Tuesday and Wednesday. We may have our first snow of the season in Oklahoma City Tuesday night of next week. That's something we'll be tracking. Imagine that. Right. Thanks for joining us. Have a great weekend. Have fun shopping. Good night, everyone.
