Get my nacho tiny tacos for $3.50 or try them bacon loaded for $4.50. Live from ABC 7, this is Eyewitness News. Burrow trying to keep it going, gets spun down, gets it away and incomplete. The Rams are Super Bowl champs once again, but for the first time as the LA Rams. And who else but Aaron Donald coming up with the game-clinching play to hand the Rams a championship win in front of their home fans. Good evening Los Angeles, thanks for joining us and congratulations champs. I'm Jory Rand. I'm Veronica Miracle and this is Eyewitness News at 11 on ABC 7 Hulu Live and wherever you stream. Well whether you were in the stands at SoFi Stadium or watching with family and friends, today was a day Rams fans in LA have been waiting for their entire lives. We've got team coverage from the air and on the ground. Our Amy Powell is taking us to the frenzy in the streets with fans, but let's first start with Rob Fukuzaki live at SoFi Stadium. Take it away Rob. Okay Veronica and Jory, thanks very much. There's still some fans out on the field celebrating with the confetti down there. You know three years ago the Rams and Sean McVay had an opportunity to win their first Super Bowl as the LA Rams, but they were denied by Bill Belichick and the Patriots. Fast forward three years and here we are in Super Bowl 56. The Rams with another opportunity against the AFC champion Cincinnati Bengals. Let's get to the highlights and show you how it all went down beginning with a heart-stopping moment near the end of the second quarter. Odell Beckham Jr. who already had a touchdown earlier in the game goes down with a knee injury. He would not return and the Rams struggled all night to connect with other receivers until the final drive of the game. Matthew Stafford finally connecting with his main man, Cooper Cup. Forty-six of Cubs 92 yards came on that late drive culminating with a go-ahead touchdown to put the Rams up three. Cup was clutch on offense and Aaron Donald was clutch on defense. Game on the line, fourth and one. Donald comes steaming through the Bengals O-line and he grabs Joe Burrow. He throws him down as Burrow throws up a desperation and the Rams win just their second Super Bowl in franchise history, but first as the LA Rams. Robert Sandoval has more inside of SoFi Stadium. Super Bowl 56 was like a microcosm of the Rams entire season. They get off to a great start but then one hurdle after another hurdle and especially the injury to Odell Beckham Jr. But the bottom line is Matthew Stafford in his first year with the Rams has now played 13 seasons and finally wins that elusive first Super Bowl. This is just a long time coming for a lot of guys. This is Andrew Whitworth, Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey, so many great players. Robert Woods on our team, Cooper, so many guys that I could name that deserve this for the way they go to work every single day, the way they care about each other as teammates and people. Just so happy to get it done for those guys. I thought in the most critical moments that's when they were at their best. Really when you look at the way that that second half started a lot of teams would have folded. But defense just came up with stop in, stop out to come away with seven sacks tying a Super Bowl record. Last time that was done was Super Bowl 50 when Von Miller was a part of that Broncos team. And so just really pleased. I think the resilience was on display in a big way. You guys hear me talk about competitive greatness until I'm blue in the face. That was on display in a big way. Cooper Kupp, the MVP, said he had a premonition walking off the regular season lost to the 49ers that they would run the table and win the Super Bowl. We'll hear more from him coming up on Sunday Night Sports from the championship confetti Kurt Sandoval, ABC 7 Eyewitness News. All right, Curtis, thanks very much. You know, if Cincinnati was going to win tonight's game, Jory and Veronica, they would have to ride the shoulders of Joe Burl. So, of course, Rams fans knew what they had to do and pressure Joe Burl. Eighteen pressures tonight and a Super Bowl tying record seven sacks by that Rams defense. We'll have much more coming up tonight on Sunday Night Sports on the Rams victory in Super Bowl 56. Mission complete. Let's send it back to the studio. That defense really turned it up in the second half when they needed it most. Rob, thanks again. We'll see you in a little bit. Tonight's big win sent fans streaming into the streets of downtown Los Angeles, forcing police to issue several dispersal orders, but nothing like the 70 plus arrests we saw 16 months ago when the Lakers won their title. Chris Christie is live in Air 7 HD with the latest. Chris? That's right, Jory. A much different situation this time around LAPD out and full force spread out across downtown, making sure everything remains relatively peaceful. As you mentioned, there was an unlawful assembly declared shortly after the game. We'll go ahead and show some video that we shot in the moments that things started to get a little bit out of hand. Some rowdy revelers making their way from L.A. Live over a few blocks towards Hope Street where they were jumping on some cars at times, lighting bottle rockets and taking over the intersection. That's when LAPD declared that unlawful assembly. And since then, that large group has mostly dispersed. There was an incident a few blocks over. We've got a shot that was posted a short time ago of a bus that was vandalized at one point. Some of the fans were actually jumping on top of the bus. That was obviously no good for business. LAPD quickly put an end to that. You can see the mounted unit back out live patrolling the streets. All of the officers now doing mobile force field patrols through the streets of downtown. Small groups here and there, but mostly a relatively peaceful celebration here in downtown L.A. I will tell you at one point, though, they actually launched those drones that we've been watching over the last couple of nights, putting on a brief drone show over the L.A. County Convention Center or the L.A. Convention Center, I should say, with a huge Rams logo saying Super Bowl champions. But unfortunately, they had to bring that show to a halt because LAPD did not want to attract even more attention to that show. All right, Chris Christie for us in the air and on the ground. Eyewitness News reporter Amy Powell has been tracking those rowdy celebrations in the streets of L.A. all night. Yes, she was in the middle of a party during the game. She joins us now live with a closer look at that dangerous at times dangerous crowd and how the LAPD handled the situation on the ground. Amy. Yes, Jory and Veronica. Most of the people we've been seeing tonight are just having a great time celebrating the Rams victory. But some have engaged in a disorderly behavior, police moving in quickly to prevent things from getting out of hand. LAPD officers in riot gear move in, firing off nonlethal rounds to break up a huge crowd, forcing people to leave the area after Super Bowl celebrations turned dangerous. Some in the crowds causing trouble setting off fireworks on the streets. Hundreds of fans gathering in the area around L.A. live, thrilled by the Rams dramatic Super Bowl victory over the Bengals. Thank you very much. Thank you, Rams. We needed that LAPD officers keeping a close eye on the impromptu street party, shutting down traffic on several streets. Most of the crowds having fun and remaining orderly. Longtime fans bursting with pride over the Super Bowl championship for their beloved L.A. team. I've been the fastest since they were in St. Louis. So for them to come to L.A. and beat the Bengals here with Odell, even though he didn't finish, you know, it was only right. Born and raised in Los Angeles. So it was a huge win, really, you know, well deserved by the team. Aaron Donald's a beast. I mean, Matt Stafford finally got one. Fans watching the final heart pounding moments of the game at Tom's at L.A. live say they got nervous but never stopped believing the Rams would find a way to win. It went down to the wire. It definitely went down to the wire. We loved it though. It was it was a nail biter. Sure. It's like I've been watching for 12 years. Matt Stafford always pulls through in the fourth quarter. An amazing night and a great victory for the L.A. Rams reporting live in downtown Los Angeles. Amy Powell, ABC 7 Eyewitness News. Amy, thank you. This is the day Die Hard Rams fans have been dreaming of ever since the team moved back to St. Louis six years ago. Eyewitness News reporter Christian Cordero has more on the catharsis and redemption longtime fans got to experience today. The Rams kept it home tonight with the biggest game and the biggest win. SoFi Stadium has ever seen amazing. Best experience ever. Rams. Yes, we did it once in a lifetime. Unbelievable. I can't. Twenty years in the making. I've been a rancher for 20 years and I finally get to witness this for Rams fans. The win was the chef's kiss on a day full of feasting. Some of the people at the game started at the players tailgate just outside of Hollywood Park Casino. Celebrity chefs served small plates to go with the music and the company. Big time defensive back Charles Woodson was there in part to promote his wine business and behind the scenes all of the food not used went to this team sorting and sharing it with local food shelters. And if we weren't here, Food Recovery Network wasn't here, the food would be thrown away. So we're really excited that we can partner in this way. The excitement beyond food and football was that halftime lineup. David and April won't forget that experience anytime soon. Everybody in the stadium wore this and they were electronically controlled. So when you looked out throughout the whole stadium, the lights in here was in sync. They control the air, blue and everything. It was amazing. So as good as it looked on television, the person was way more incredible than person. Yes, absolutely. They flew in from Atlanta for this game and they said it was their first date. It's going to be a tough one to top. We're near SoFi Stadium. I'm Christiane Cordero, ABC7 Eyewitness News. Christiane, thank you. And we're not done with our Super Bowl coverage. The halftime show didn't disappoint Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and a few surprises as well. We're breaking it all down. And later the flight attendant forced to use a coffee pot to take out a passenger on a flight out of LAX. And it was a hot weekend in Southern California, but I have cooler temperatures and a chance of rain and snow coming up in this seven day forecast. Next. If some of the superstars that have come out American Idol have never been discovered, the world would have missed out on happiness. The show continues to create superstars. I'm fired up about this. While the Rams lit up the field, some of the Southlands finest lit up the stage during the Super Bowl halftime show. Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, and Mary J. Blige joining forces with a surprise appearance by 50 Cent to put on what many on social media called the best halftime show ever, perhaps second behind only Prince. Well, people at today's game were supposed to follow COVID safety rules, including wearing face coverings as mandated for outdoor events with large crowds. All attendees were given K95 masks, but the broadcast captured many celebrities mask free, including Jay-Z, Matt Damon, LeBron James, Jennifer Lopez, and Ben Affleck, and L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti, who was caught with his mask off at the NFL Championship game two weeks ago. To be fair, it wasn't just celebrities or politicians. Almost everyone had their masks off during the game. Yeah, enforcement was just a joke once again. And as a point of reference, students will go to school tomorrow, forced to wear masks, including outdoors. Meantime, the leader of the free world celebrating the Super Bowl champs tonight, President Biden, tweeting congratulations, saying he's looking forward to hosting the Rams at the White House. Adding there at the end, what do you say, second gentleman, that of course is L.A. native Doug Emhoff, husband of Vice President Kamala Harris. Emhoff also tweeted congratulations to the Rams tonight as well. All right. Well, for everybody who got to come out and enjoy Southern California, they got a taste of some incredible winter weather that we experience here, Alex. Oh, absolutely. Just a treat. You're talking about the 70s and the 80s in February. For us, that's pretty normal. For the rest of the country, absolutely not. A very happy Sunday, everybody. Hope you enjoyed watching the Super Bowl. L.A. X in the area of the SoFi Stadium right now, about 63 degrees outside. High temperature in Inglewood today hit 81 degrees. The all time record for a Super Bowl is 84 degrees. So that didn't happen today. Just a little bit shy that some sea breeze came in and knocked that temperature down a little bit. But still 90s out there today for several spots up into the valleys, also some upper 80s and some records broken today in Paso Robles and the UCLA area. The Pacific Park, the Santa Monica Pier and the Ferris wheel getting in on the Rams spirit tonight, announcing that big win by the Rams earlier tonight. Fifty nine degrees outside of the Pacific Park at the Santa Monica Pier. Downtown Los Angeles at 84 degrees today, average for this time of year is about 68 degrees. So temperatures today about 16 degrees above average, maybe even more depending on where you were. Temperatures right now is cooling off quickly. Fifty nine degrees in Los Angeles. Sixty one in Ontario, 58 degrees in Riverside, 25 degrees atop Big Bear Mountain tonight. So well below freezing there, but still 65 degrees in Van Nuys. Sixty three degrees in Covina feels a little bit like a summer's night depending on where you are. Tomorrow is a warm day and then things start to cool down by Tuesday on into Wednesday. High pressure is still the main weather feature for much of the West Coast and certainly the southwestern United States with some very sunny skies out there. Changes come in the form of low pressure. This system right now tonight is out towards Canada. That's just going to make its way down south and then by Tuesday afternoon centered right around the Las Vegas area. The winds are going to pick up as this system comes through and also a little bit of rain and snow as well associated with some of the moisture that will be pushed into southern California as well. Beyond that, the future scan, you can see things clear out pretty quickly. So here's the forecast heading into Tuesday. I think some really light showers could start in the early morning hours. So more than likely a bit of a slick commute out there for your Tuesday morning. Then most of that moisture moves just to the mountains heading into Tuesday afternoon, but still some showers possible on some good shower activity down towards Orange County and northern San Diego County down in the Oceanside area by Tuesday night. I have about a quarter of an inch rain possible for some areas on Tuesday. More on that in the seven day. Here are low temperatures for tonight. 58 degrees in Thousand Oaks. It's a little warm. 52 degrees in Northridge overnight. 57 in Pasadena. Antelope Valley was below freezing last night. Tonight a little bit warmer. 39 degrees in the Palmdale area. 54 degrees in Riverside and 44 in Lake Elsinore. High temperatures for tomorrow. Still warm, cooler than today, but still certainly warm outside. So 82 degrees in Riverside. 78 in Irvine tomorrow. 77 degrees in Los Angeles after about 84 today. So once again, still warm, but cooler. 80 degrees in Pasadena. 82 degrees in Covina tomorrow. No one is in the 90s, fortunately. And 82 in Santa Clarita tomorrow. Seven day forecast. Los Angeles and Orange County tomorrow. Expect another sunny, warm day. Tuesday. Big change. Things cool down dramatically as the rain and snow begin to move in. Rest of the week clears out and warms up. So it goes from about 77 degrees on Monday back to about 74 out there by Friday. Biggest change this week is Tuesday. Valleys and the Inland Empire. Another day of the 80s on Monday before the cool down on Tuesday. Going to drop about 20 degrees outside with the rain and the winds as well. It will be very windy with this system. And then the rest of the week is in the mid to upper 70s. Heading out to the coastline now. Expect a breezy and sometimes sunny day tomorrow by the coast. That rain moves in on Tuesday at about 20 percent. And once again, I think about a quarter of an inch as possible and then 70 degrees for the rest of the week. Heading up to the mountains now. Some snow on Tuesday is going to be very significant. About an inch or two of snow, maybe a little bit more than that. We really nice. It's been a while since we've gotten some snow here in Southern California. Then temperatures eventually build into the mid to upper 50s out there. Heading out to the deserts now. Sunny and breezy on Monday. 78 degrees. Some showers moving in on Tuesday. Upper 60s moving in after that. I think the talk of this week, weather wise, is going to be those showers coming in on Tuesday. Going to be nice to see some changes in Southern California. Yeah. Quick little break for us. All right. Thanks, Alex. We have some breaking entertainment news tonight. Producer director Ivan Reitman, who spent his career in comedy, has died at the age of 75. Entertainment guru George Pinocchio looks back on the comedian's legacy. Ivan Reitman was the producer behind the 1978 John Belushi College comedy classic, National Lampoon's Animal House. Reitman also made Legal Eagles with Robert Redford, Father's Day with Robin Williams and Billy Crystal, and Draft Day with Kevin Costner. He produced many more films than he directed, with his name attached to the Beethoven franchise and to the original Space Jam with Michael Jordan. You've never seen anything like it. In a statement, his family said Reitman taught us to always seek the magic in life, something he did for his entire career. George Pinocchio, ABC7 Eyewitness News. Yeah, the journey is complete for the LA Rams Super Bowl champs and we have it covered for you right now. SNS starts right now. Here's the play. Dead step. Odell Beckham Jr. goes down with a devastating injury but the resilient Rams answer the bell and beat the Bengals to win Super Bowl 56. The highlights through reaction from the players and coaches, we have it all live from SoFi Stadium and a special live edition of Sunday Night Sports from Englewood. Soak it in Southern California. The LA Rams are Super Bowl champions but when Odell Beckham Jr. went down with an injury, things did look dicey but the Rams absorbed shot after shot and they prevailed 23 to 20 to beat the Bengals and win Super Bowl 56. Let's get to the highlights. The Rams playing in their fifth Super Bowl going for win number two. The Bengals looking for win number one in their third try and on LA's second drive, OBJ helps the franchise cash in early, comes down with a 17-yard ground from Matthew Stafford and gives a little dance right there. Cincinnati response Joe Burrow trying to become the fifth Joe quarterback to win it all connects with Jamar Chase. Look at that catch that set up a field goal at 7-3 after one. We go to the second quarter and it's Stafford to cup in the back of the end zone. The extra point was no good. That makes it 13 to 3 Rams. The game is over. It makes it 13 to 3 Rams. The Bengals respond some trickeration. It's Joe Mixon, not Burrow, tossing the six yard scoring pass to T Higgins. Cincinnati gets within three and here's where you kind of felt the momentum shift Stafford to OBJ incomplete and Beckham is hurt. He tore his ACL in the same left knee in week seven of the 2020 season. Did it happen again? 13-10 at the half. After a rousing halftime show performance by rapid hip hop legends, the Bengals stunned the Rams. On the first play of the third quarter, Burrow goes deep to Higgins. 75-yard bomb but look at this. Higgins got away with a face mask on Jalen Ramsey. The officials miss the personal foul and Cincinnati is feeling it. Then on the Rams next offensive play Stafford targeting Ben Skoronic but he can't hang on and Chidope Awuze comes up with the interception but look who holds the Bengals to a field goal. Aaron Donald with one of his two sacks and LA seven total holds Cincinnati to a field goal. It's 2016 Bengals after three. So here we go to the fourth quarter. Same score and the Rams facing a fourth and one on their own 35 minutes left. Hands it to Cupp. He goes for seven yards move the chains. Then after the defensive holding on and pass interference calls LA got closer to Paydirt Stafford and who else? Cupp cash in. Cupp goes eight catches 92 yards two tutties to make it 23-20 Rams but it's not over yet. The Bengals on the Rams 49. It's fourth and one and there's Donald again. Burrow throws it awkwardly and yes Mr. Three-time defensive player of the year you have your ring. Sean McVeigh gets a Gatorade bath and Stan Kroike hoists the Lombardi trophy in the house that Stan built. The Rams win Super Bowl 56 23-20 and make the game's MVP vision a reality. I don't know what it was there's just this vision God revealed to me that we were going to come back we were going to be a part of Super Bowl we were going to win it and somehow I was going to walk off the field as the MVP of the game and I shared that with my wife because I couldn't tell anyone else obviously what that was but from the moment this postseason started there was just a belief in every game it was just it was written already. So Cooper Cup saves the best for last in his fairy tale season as Super Bowl 56 MVP. Now the questions was this Andrew Witworth's final game was it Aaron Donald's final game can you believe someone actually asked him that we'll save that for later it's on to the victory parade on Wednesday and with more with the Super Bowl champs here's Kurt Sandoval. It's been exactly three years and 11 days since Aaron Donald walked off the field as the loser in Super Bowl 53 in Atlanta his daughter has been telling him all week that she needed to play in the confetti well she played in the confetti because Donald and his defense had to combine seven sacks tonight. I found a way to get to him so I actually tried to get the ball out he kind of ducked me from doing that and when he threw it up I kept my heart kind of dropped because I seen you know the little running backers right there that he's gonna come out and he's gonna come out because I seen you know the little running backers right there that he's gonna catch it but um it was a big play man it was a great game by um by the Rams overall from the offense um to the defense to the special teams man it was a great team sport team and a great team win. So many talented guys so many guys on my team that was deserving of this moment man and it feels good to give it to him feels good to give it to Aaron Donald, Andrew Witworth, Jalen Ramsey all of these guys that have been working their whole careers to get to this point you know God is good. These guys did it you know they're a mentally tough group I think when you look at the Bengals give Zach Taylor and that group a lot of credit I have so much you know I love Zach Taylor he's a close friend of mine they played the same way that we did and we just found enough we found a way to make a couple more to that group really just appreciative to be a part of it and these players delivered in a big way. The people that I've been able to play with the people that I've been around the players that I get to play with they're coming to work with every single day the coaches that I get to work with to collaborate with it's just been just the perfect team the perfect setup I'm just so thankful for everyone that's been around me it was uh I mean really I don't know if it's still really hasn't hit me. Being able to to sit and witness this second hand to be able to come back recover and help lead this team and dominate triple crown receiver led us all the way to this point and he won this thing. I love playing this game I love playing this game for the competition the competition for the uh for the relationships you know for the hard times you know for the good times all of it uh this game can teach us so much as people I get to go to work with people from all walks of life come together and go for one you know one goal and for 12 years that goal wasn't reached they tore me up inside but I knew I could keep playing and try to find a way and uh you know the fact that we reached that goal today is uh is so special. So Matthew Stafford with his 35th comeback in the NFL the most of any active player becomes just the third quarterback to change teams and win a Super Bowl. Yes it took 13 years only John Elway took longer going 15 years. Well Stafford will be ready for that parade come Wednesday from SoFi Stadium. Kurt Sandoval for Sunday Night Sports. All right Kurtis thanks very much and great job Kurt all week long.
