Six, maybe one, two, three, four and five. Hi Ken. Hi Melanie. How are you doing? I'm fine, how are you? Good. I really appreciate you taking the time to teach me this dance. It means a lot to me. Oh, no problem, no problem. Are you ready? I sure am. Are you all ready to learn the achy breaky? Learn right along with Ken. Alright, here we go. I'm going to turn my back and all you have to do is follow me. We're going to do the first count of eight. Everybody, you're going to start with your weight on your left foot. Your right foot is free. You're going to step to the side and go one, cross back two, three, hold four. Now the hips go to the left. Five, then right six, seven, hold eight. Let's do that one more time. Right foot and one, two, three, hold four, five, six, seven, hold eight. Let's continue on. Your weight is on your left foot. Your right foot is free. You touch one, two, do a quarter turn to your left, three and touch at the same time. Now you're going to make a half turn and step back four. Very good. Thank you. You're welcome. And we walk back five, six, and you hitch seven, swing it through eight, and you're facing front again. Now that step is kind of tricky, so let's do it again. Your weight is on your left foot. Your right foot is free. You touch back one, side two, quarter turn, three, half turn, step four, walk back five, six, hitch seven, swing it through, step on eight. Let's put those two counts of eight together. Here we go. Right foot is free and one, two, three, hold four, hips five, six, seven, hold eight, touch one, two, quarter turn, three, half turn, four, walk back five, six, seven, eight. I think we need to do that one more time a little bit faster. Your right foot is free and one, two, three, hold four, hips five, six, seven, hold eight, touch one, two, quarter turn, three, half turn, four, five, six, hitch seven, eight. Now you might have to practice that second count of eight quite a bit before it really feels comfortable, but just keep practicing. Let's go to the third count of eight, Ken. Let's do it. Here we go. Your weight is on your left foot. Your right foot is free. You're going to walk back one, two, three, and you're stomping four. Now the hips go to the left, five, six, seven, hold eight again. One more time. You walk back one, two, three, stomp four, hips five, six, seven, hold eight. Now that's not too difficult, so let's add that on to the first two counts of eight. Here we go. Your right foot is free and one, two, three, hold four, hips five, six, seven, hold eight, touch one, two, quarter turn, three, half turn, four, walk back five, six, hitch seven, eight, back one, two, three, stomp four, hips five, six, seven, hold eight. I think we need to do that one more time. Are you with me? I'm with you. Here we go. And one, two, three, hold four, five, six, seven, hold eight, touch one, two, three, four, five, six, hitch seven, eight, and one, two, three, stomp four, hips five, six, seven, hold eight. Now practice that as much as you need to, but right now we're going to go to your last count of eight. Four counts of eight are in the Achy Breaky. We have finished with our weight on our left foot. Our right foot is free. You're going to do a quarter turn to your right. One, stomp two. Now a half turn to your left. Three, four, and five, grapevine six, seven. Bring your feet together and clap at the same time. Eight. We clapped together. Very good. Let's try it again. Our right foot is free. Quarter turn to your right. One, stomp two. Half turn, three, stomp four, grapevine five, six, seven, eight. We're going to put all four counts of eight together. Are you ready? I'm going to try. Good. Here we go. Right foot is free. We have one, two, three, hold four, hips five, six, seven, hold eight. Touch one, two, quarter turn, three, half turn, four, five, six, hitch seven, eight, back up one, two, three, stomp four, hips five, six, seven, hold eight, quarter turn, one, stomp two, half turn, three, four, grapevine five, six, seven, eight. I think we need to do that one more time a little bit faster. Ready? And one, two, three, hold four, hips five, six, seven, hold eight. Touch one, two, quarter turn, three, half turn, four, walk five, six, hitch seven, eight, back one, two, three, stomp four, hips five, six, seven, hold eight, turn one, two, turn three, four, grapevine five, six, seven, eight. This is your new front. You start all over again with a grapevine. So actually what you're doing at the very end, you're finishing with a grapevine and you start with a grapevine. So you keep on going. So practice as much as you need to. Follow along with us. Here we go. Music. Ready? Five, six, seven, eight, one, two, three, hold four, five, six, seven, hold eight, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 1. Good. And you can turn it. And if you tell my heart, my ecky, breaky heart, I just don't think he'd understand, and if you tell my heart, my ecky, breaky heart, he might blow up and kill his man, whoo, whoo, whoo, whoo. You can tell your ma, I moved to Arkansas, you can tell your dog by my name, or tell your brother, Bill, who's risking to tell my little, he never really lied to me anyway. Or tell your way, Louise, do anything you please, a separated note is not okay. Or you can tell my eyes, to watch out for my mind, he might be walking out on me today. And if you tell my heart, my ecky, breaky heart, I just don't think he'd understand, and if you tell my heart, my ecky, breaky heart, he might blow up and kill his man, whoo, whoo, whoo. Well, don't tell my heart, my ecky, breaky heart, I just don't think he'd understand, and if you tell my heart, my ecky, breaky heart, he might blow up and kill his man. Don't tell my heart, my ecky, breaky heart, I just don't think he'd understand, and if you tell my heart, my ecky, breaky heart, he might blow up and kill his man, whoo, whoo. Alright, let's start together. Here we go. Your right foot starts it. And you're going to go forward, right, left, and clap. And reverse that. Jump back and clap. One more time. And one, two, and three, four. That's easy enough. Let's go on. Your right foot should be free. Now you're going to do a shuffle to the right. Shuffle one. Shuffle two. To the left. One more to the right. Let's do that all together. One more time. Here we go. And one, two, and three, four. Five and six, seven and eight. One and two. Easy enough. One more time. And. And one, two, and three, four. Shuffle to the right. Shuffle to the left. Shuffle to the right. Going on. You're going to do another shuffle step. And you're going to do a half turn. So turning around and do a shuffle step to the left. Easy enough. Now you're going to come back to your right doing a grapevine. But on the last step, you're going to turn back to front. So you side, cross back, side, and a half turn back to where you started. Let's try that again. Half turn and shuffle. Grapevine to the right. Coming back to front. Let's add that on to the first part. Here we go. Clap. Clap. Shuffle to the right. Shuffle to the left. Shuffle to the right. Half turn. Shuffle to the left. Grapevine. One, two, three, and back to the front. That's easy enough. Let me count it for you as you follow along. Here we go. And one, two, and three, four, five and six, seven and eight. One and two, three and four, five, six, seven, eight. Have you got that much? I think we can go on. The next step is called a kick ball change. It looks like this. Kick ball change. Kick ball change. You're going to do two of them on your right foot. Now the reason it's called a kick ball change is obviously you do a kick. But when you do the ball change, the only part of your foot that touches the floor is the ball of your foot rocking back and forward again. Ball change. Let's do that. And kick ball change. Kick ball change. You're going to do that twice on your right foot. Here we go. One and two, three and four. Now you're going to make a quarter turn to your left and step. Your left foot should be free. At this point you're going to do another kick ball change on your left. Kick ball change. Let's do that one more time. You have finished coming around from your grapevine. Your right foot is free. You do. Kick ball change. Kick ball change. Turn. Kick ball change. You're going to finish it off with a step and clap at the same time. Just like that. Let's add that step from the very beginning. Here we go. Your right foot starts it and you have. And one, two and three, four, shuffle, five, six, seven and eight. One and two, three and four, grapevine, five, six, seven, eight. And one and two, three and four, five, six and seven, eight. One more time. Here we go. A little bit faster this time. And one, two and three, four, five and six, seven and eight. One and two, three and four, five, six, seven, eight. One and two, three and four, five, six and seven, eight. Have you got that much? If not, keep practicing. But let's go on. Here we go. You have stepped on your left and clapped at the same time. So your right foot is free. You're going to do a shuffle straight ahead of you. One, two. Now a pivot step. You're going to reach forward with your left and pivot doing a half turn. Let's try that one more time. Right foot is free. Shuffle. One, two, pivot, three, four. Now here's the tricky part. I'm going to face my back to the camera. Follow along with me. This is what the step looks like. You have just done your pivot turn. Your left foot is at the back and you're going to touch out and change to the right. Half turn, heel and toe. Let's try that one more time. Your left foot is free. You have reach out, touch and touch, half turn, heel and toe. Let's add that to the shuffle step and the pivot step. Looks like this. Shuffle one and two, pivot three, four, touch five, six and seven and eight. Now you start all over again. Your toe is right back there so you just swing it forward and go and one, two and three, four. Let's take it from the top. Here we go. Your right foot is free. Ready? And one, two and three, four. Shuffle five and six, seven and eight. One and two, half turn, three and four. Grapevine five, six, seven, turn eight. Kick one and two, three and four, turn five, six and seven, clap eight. Shuffle one and two, pivot three, four, touch five and six and seven and eight. And one, two. Starts all over again. Let's do that one more time. Here we go. A little bit faster. Ready? And one, two and three, four, five and six, seven and eight. One and two, three and four, five, six, seven, eight. One and two, three and four, five, six and seven, eight. One and two, three, four, five and six and seven and eight. And one, two. That's the four star boogie. I hope you enjoy doing it out there at your favorite club. But right now we're going to do it with some music. Here we go. Five, six, seven, eight. Now shuffle to the right, left, right, half turn. Here's your grapevine. And kick ball change. Turn, kick ball change. And touch, touch, heel, toe. You got it. Twenty miles on a midnight train. Just to go fishing in the foreign land. Take along your baby just to cause you in love. Fishing and loving. I can't get enough. Well that's country. I was raised a country child. Well that's country. Baby that's my style. I got a piece of nothing farm. Shotgun and a hound dog. I got a tracker in the barn. Rock and drilled my front porch and I took a homemade wine. When I ain't making music, that's how I spend my time. Well that's country. I was born as a country child. Now that's country. Baby that's my style. You know every man and woman ought to have a place to lay their burdens down. Y'all can do it in that city, but it ain't the same in the big old town. Now let me just talk to y'all one second. Have you ever lived in a field of clover late into the night? And once the shooting star falls from heaven till the moon fades out of sight. Get up and go visiting. That's just what neighbors do. I'm proud to be from the country. Now how about you? That's country. I was raised on that Mississippi mile. Now that's country. Baby that's my style. Well that's country. Yes I was born a country child. Now that's country. Baby that's my style. Now the next thing we're going to do is the country polka. This is what it looks like. First of all, David, Missy face each other. As you can see gentlemen, your right arm is draped on your ladies left shoulder and ladies your left hand is draped right at his elbow and the other hand are held. Now from this position we're going to do the polka. Gentlemen, you start on your left foot. Ladies, you start on your right. It consists of six steps. You start with a one, two, three and reverse it to the other side. One, two, three. Remember you must constantly keep changing your weight. Missy and David are going to go around in a circle just as though they were in a country nightclub. Remember you go counter clockwise when you do country dancing. Here we go. And one, two, three. One, two, three. One, two, three. One, two, three. As you can see, ladies you are going backwards. Gentlemen, you are leading your lady to the point where most gentlemen are taller than their ladies so he can see where he's going. Very, very nice. Now the next variation we're going to learn, all we're going to do is turn while we do the country polka. Ladies, you're going to start turning and leading to your right shoulder. Gentlemen, you're going to be turning to your right shoulder also. So here we go turning. Starting again, gentlemen left foot, ladies right. You go one, two, three. One, two, three. One, two, three. One, two, three. And turn again. Very nice. And one more turn. Very good. It's as easy as that. The next variation we have looks like this. Ladies, you're going to go under your right arm and your gentleman's left arm. Doing the basic step of the polka. You have one, two, three. One, two, three. Hold. Now from this position as you can see you're both facing in the same direction. Now gentlemen you're going to go under your ladies arm like so. One, two, three. One, two, three. Now you're facing the other direction. Ladies again. One, two, three. One, two, three. Gentlemen. One, two, three. One, two, three. And keep going. Very nice. Ladies as you can see you're always turning to your right. Gentlemen you are always turning to your left. Once more. Very good. Very, very nice. Now our last variation looks like this. Ladies you're going to again go under your right arm. Your gentleman's left. Looking like this. One, two, three. Now gentlemen you're going to turn to your right so that you can change hands. And end up in a cross position. Let's do that one more time. You're in your basic dance position. Ladies you go for your turn first. Gentlemen you then turn to your right. Change hands. End up in a cross position. From this point this step is called around the world. And exactly what happens here is that Missy goes around David and there's a turn to her left. Then she keeps turning all the way around. Gentlemen you keep walking forward as she's doing it. Very nice. Gentlemen you stay straight ahead so that you can still lead your lady around the dance floor. Now coming around once more you're going to stop in front ladies. Gentlemen this is how you change. Drop your left hand. Take her right and you end up in your basic dance position. Alright now let's try it with some music. David and Missy are going to demonstrate all of the variations for you. Let's try it together. Follow along with them. Five, six, seven, and one. So ladies warn your daughters about the stranger with the poison leaves. The next dance we're going to learn is called Break in the Bank. And it's done to a John Anderson tune called Money in the Bank. I hope you like it. Here we go. Everyone starts with their left foot. You do a toe in and a heel. Step, toe in and heel. You do two stomps finishing down and heels out, in. Let's do that again to counts. One, two, and three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Now this next count of eight, the first step is a little tricky. I want to show it to you for those of you who might already know how to do it. It looks like this. For those of you who can already do it, that's great. For those of you who can't, let's break it down. You're traveling to the right. Your accent with your toes and knees are out. They go out and you bend at the same time. Pull them in and straighten. Out, out, out, out. Okay? You think you got that? That might take a little practice, but keep on practicing. You'll get it. Let's do that again. You have out, out, out, out. You finish the second count of eight with a side, cross back, side, touch. Let's do that one more time to counts. You have one, and two, and three, and four, five, six, seven, touch back, eight. Let's put the first two counts of eight together. Here we go. You have one, two, and three, four, stop, five, six, heel, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, touch back, eight. Okay? You ready for your third count of eight? Here we go. Your right foot is back. You're going to step right and hitch left. Then step left and touch back right. Again, step. Now your left foot is going to start out and then go in, in, and finish with a hitch. Okay? Let's do that to counts. One, two, three, four, five, and six, seven, eight. That's the third count of eight. Here's the fourth. You have finished with a hitch. You step left. Do a quarter turn to your right and step. Do a pivot turn, half. And then from there, you pull your left end to your right, lifting your right heel. And then your left heel, right, left. And you start all over again. Let's do that again. Here we go to counts. You have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. That's your fourth count of eight. Let's put the third and the fourth together. You have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, hitch, eight. One quarter turn, two, pivot, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. That's break in the bank. But there's something different about this dance. I put in a step called a break, hence break in the bank. I want to show you that break step. You're going to do the complete line dance, what I just showed you, twice, all the way through. And then you'll do this. You're going to push off, leaning to your left, and push off. Lean to your right, and push off. And then from there, you're going to brush your left foot and step, step. Let's do that again. You push left together, right together, brush left, right. All right? Now, this is the last part of your break. Your left foot is free after you've done brush, step, step. You do a kick, ball change. You're going to do a quarter turn to your left, with the knee opens and the knee closes. Let's do that again. A kick, ball change, open the knee left, and right closes in, which makes you turn a quarter turn. Kick, ball change, open, close. Kick, ball change, open, close. Kick, ball change, open, close. From there, you start all over again. That's your complete break. Now, what's fun about doing the break, after you've done your line dance twice, and just before you go into the break, it's a rule. We made it a rule. You have to yell, break, before you do it. So, I think that we're about all the way through. Let's do break in the bank, completely through adding your break. Here we go. You have one, two, and three, four, five, six, seven, eight. One, and two, and three, and four, five, six, seven, touch, eight. Step, hitch, step, touch, step, to the front, and hitch. Step, quarter, turn, pivot, step, five, six. You're going to do it again. Now, let's pretend you've done it twice, and go right into our break. So, you've gone five, six, seven, and on the eight count, you're going to yell, break, into push from the left, right, brush, step, step, kick, ball change, open, close. Now, this step takes two counts of eight to finish. That's one eight. And kick, ball change, open, close. Okay. That's the whole break in the bank. I think we're ready for some music, don't you? Let's give it a shot. Five, six, seven, eight. Everybody in the bank. I wish I had a basketball and a Zoot 28. I guess that stuff will have to wait. Cause I'm saving on a washer and a wedding ring. I want this stuff to be your last good thing. Right at the top, that's where you rank. Honey, your love's better than money in the bank. Oh, you make me feel like a million bucks. Oh, I want to drive you around in an armored truck. Late last night I had a crazy dream. I met a man who invented a money machine. He said, I know things are tight and times are tough. Give me the machine if I give you up. I just looked him in the eye and I said no thanks. Honey, your love's better than money in the bank. Honey, your love's better than money in the bank. The next dance I'm going to teach you originated right here in Nashville, Tennessee. It's called the Sweetheart Shottish. It's a great fun partner dance. Now I'm going to teach you the actual Sweetheart Shottish and three variations. Now you need a partner for this dance, so I'd like you to meet Gordon. Hi, it's going to be my partner to teach you the Sweetheart Shottish. Are you ready? Let's start. Left to left, right to right. Everybody starts on their left foot. You step to the side. Cross back, side with a scuff. Ladies, then you're going to turn to your right. One, two, three with a scuff. Now to the left, ladies. Crossing again in front of each other and a turn to the right. One, two, three, scuff. Let's do that one more time. Left foot starts it. One, two, three, scuff. Left arm comes up. Left and then the right and the right. That's the first part of the Sweetheart Shottish. Let's go on to the second part. You have finished with a scuff. You then do a step scuff and a step scuff moving forward. Then back up. Two, three, scuff and a step scuff. Back up. One, two, three, scuff. Let's do that section one more time. You have just finished a scuff. You travel forward. Step, scuff, step, scuff. Back. One, two, three, scuff, step, scuff. One, two, three, scuff. And you continue on. Let's go into our first variation. You have finished with a scuff. You do a step scuff, step, scuff. You walk back three steps. Face each other as the right arm comes up over the ladies head. One, two, three. Then you kick right, step and left. Then one, two, three. You've pulled apart and a kick. All right. From there you do your turns. One, two, to the right ladies, scuff. Then to the left and to the right. Let's do that variation one more time. You've finished with your scuff. You do step, scuff, step, scuff. Back. One, two. Face each other. Kick, kick. Pull apart. Two, three, kick. And to the right ladies you turn. Scuff. To the left. And to the right. That's your first variation. On to the second. You have finished with a scuff. With a step, scuff, step, scuff. Ladies, you do a half turn on your three walks. Scuff. Continue around each other with a scuff. One, two, three, scuff. You've changed places. Now, ladies, you're going to turn to your left. One, two, three, scuff. Guys, you turn to your left. One, two, three, scuff. And ladies, you turn to your right. One, two, three, scuff. That's the second variation. How about a third? We start with a step, scuff, step, scuff. You pull apart and a half turn, ladies. Then pull together. Step, scuff. Then a one, two, three, scuff. Alright, let's do that much one more time. With a scuff, step, half turn. One, two. You've pulled apart. You pull in on the step, scuff. Pull apart. Two, three, scuff. Now here comes your turns again. Ladies, you're going to turn to your left. And gentlemen, your arm is going to go back behind your back. One, two, three. And he changes hands. Now from here, ladies, you're going to turn to your left. Going in front of your guy. And gentlemen, you change hands again. Your last turn is a one, two, three, scuff. Let's do that one one more time. You have a scuff, step, scuff, step, scuff. You pull apart with a half turn, ladies. Pull in, scuff. Goes behind your back, guys. Change hands. Turning to the left. Change hands again. That's your third variation. Let's put them all together. Here we go. Starting with your left foot. One, two, three, scuff. One, two, three. You're facing each other. The left arm. Ladies turn to the right. Back up. One, two, three, scuff. Again. Turning to the left. The left arm comes over the ladies' head. Now the left and then the right. And turning to the right. Into the first variation. One, two, three, you kick. Step, kick. One, two, three, kick. Turn to your right, ladies. To the left. And to the right. Here's the second variation. Half turn. Continuing the circle. Turn to the left, ladies. The gentleman to the left. And to the right. Last variation. Pull apart. Pull together. Change hands, guys. Change hands again. That's the sweetheart shottish. And you know you can also do it with other music. If you want a slower tempo, dance to Honky Tonk Crowd by Marty Stewart. A medium tempo, dance to What a Woman Wants, Lori White. And a fast tempo, Trouble on the Line by Sawyer Brown. Let's do it with music. Here we go. They say that there's a hole in the atmosphere. The things you'd think would last just disappeared. You were ready to say I do. Somebody lowered a boom on you. Now you need a sympathetic ear. Tell me about it. Tell me about teardrops in the dark. Tell me about it. Tell me about your broken heart. You say you need someone to hold you tight. You can't stand another lonely night. Well come closer and tell me about it. Love isn't always true. It hurts sometimes. Your tears say tell on you girl I'm not blind. I know what you're going through. I graduated from high school too. If you need a shoulder, cry on mine. Tell me about it. Tell me about teardrops in the dark. Tell me about it. Tell me all about your broken heart. You say you need someone to hold you tight. You can't stand another lonely night. Well come closer and tell me about it. Tell me about it. Tell me about teardrops in the dark. Tell me about it. Tell me all about your broken heart. Hard country dancing. It's easy when you learn to do it right. Hard country dancing. It's a boot stomping dinner straight tonight! It's a boot stomping dinner straight tonight! It's a boot stomping dinner straight tonight! Cut. Few minutes later...
