Hello, I'm Shirley Jones. On behalf of your furniture store, we would like to thank you for your recent purchase. Actually, you've made more than a purchase, you have made an investment. Home furnishings are the third largest investment we make after our home and car. It's an investment in the beauty and comfort of our home. The purpose of this short video is to help you protect that investment. You may want to have a pen and paper handy for notes. Again, thank you and enjoy your new furniture. And remember, your furniture store is here to serve you. Hi, I'm Russ Kristof. Your Soil Shield Fabric Protection is a good investment because Soil Shield completely coats the individual fibers of your upholstery's fabric. It protects your furniture from permanent stains, makes cleaning easier, and reduces abrasion so that your upholstery looks better and it lasts longer. And of course, Soil Shield Protection is completely safe for children and pets. In the next few minutes, we're going to give you the information you'll need to know about your Fabric Protection Warranty and provide you with your Warranty Registration Number. Later on, we're going to provide a lot of useful information about reducing indoor air pollution, a subject of increasing concern in today's households. Now your Soil Shield Warranty protects your upholstery from permanent stains and spots caused by foods and beverages. It does not, however, cover general soiling. Immediate cleanup of spills and vacuuming are your best defense against general soiling. Detailed information about removing spots is in your care booklet. But here are the key points you'll want to know. The most important thing is this, fast action makes all the difference. You see, when a spill is fresh, that's the time to act. If you wait, it'll take a lot more time and effort to get it out. Let me show you what I mean. When the spill is fresh, blot with a clean white absorbent cloth. Don't rub and don't use a sponge. Once you have blotted away as much of the spill as possible, see if anything remains. That's probably all it'll take. Now because it's so important to quickly get to spills before they sink in, we recommend that you keep a cloth handy right under the upholstery cushion. Now sometimes we're not so lucky. Take this day old spill of jam for instance. First scrape up the excess, then blot. Next refer to the spotting chart in your care booklet. This chart is also printed on the inside of your video case. Identify your fabric code. This code lets you know what type of spot removal process can be safely used. See if your fabric code has been entered into your care booklet by your salesperson. If your fabric code hasn't been written into your care book and is not on your furniture tag, simply refer to the unknown column. Clean up the type of spill with the fabric type and you'll see the recommended home remedy procedure. For instance, if your fabric code is W and your spill is jam, you would try procedure 2, which calls for a teaspoon of clear hand dishwashing liquid in a cup of warm water. Now pre-test the remedy on a hidden area of the fabric to make sure that it doesn't discolor or damage the fabric. Apply generously and pre-test on all the colors. Now it rarely happens, but make sure that no color is transferred to the towel. Let the pre-test area dry and check to make sure that there's no discoloration. If not, go ahead and apply the mixture to the spot. Be sure not to soak the spot, again be sure to blot, don't rub. Rub from the outside toward the center of the spot and repeat if necessary. Blot the area with clear water. Finish off by feathering the area to avoid leaving a ring. Now feathering is simply moistening lightly a little beyond the cleaning spot so that the whole area dries evenly. And blot dry. Generally, that's all that it takes. However if the procedure didn't work, try the next recommended procedure that's listed. With the spotting chart and with the cleaning remedies you probably already have in your home, you're all set to keep your new furniture stain free for as long as you want it. Now if you want an even easier and faster way to get out spots and spills, you may want to use Soil Shield's super effective and inexpensive line of spot and stain removers for upholstery and carpets too. These spotters are used by professional cleaners nationwide. Stain lifter for water-based spills, stain lifter FX for tough stains like blood and chocolate, pet stain lifter, and odor lifter for the odors some stains leave behind. Like Soil Shield Fabric Protector applied to your upholstery, these products are safe and non-toxic. Buy all four bottles for $19.95 and receive the caddy as well as two small bottles of stain lifter to keep in your auto glove box, purse, or drawer at work. Available through your furniture store or call Soil Shield at 1-800-852-2880. Another point about spotting. Sometimes after cleaning the spot, folks will call Soil Shield to report a ring forming in their upholstery. Actually, the ring is simply the contrast between the cleaned area and the rest of the upholstery, which is soiled and needs overall cleaning. Now, no fabric protectant covers general soiling. Dry soils and dust accumulate on your upholstery just like on your furniture. Although Soil Shield helps to prevent these soils from sticking, you'll still need to vacuum your upholstery regularly. We recommend vacuuming once a week to keep your furniture looking great. When your upholstery is cleaned, Soil Shield fabric protectant does not need to be reapplied. And application of another protectant voids your Soil Shield warranty. One final point. On tight-weave fabrics treated with Soil Shield, when a spill is fresh, liquids will actually bead up. But on loose-weave fabrics, the liquid falls in the air spaces between the fibers. The fibers are still protected. Again, quick blotting action will bring the spill out. Now we're going to give you your Soil Shield warranty registration number. But before I do, I want to ask you a couple of questions. Did you know that on average, we spend 90% of our time indoors? That the air inside of our homes is typically three to five times more polluted than the outside air? That one out of every four Americans suffers from ailments and allergies, which are aggravated by or even caused by indoor air pollution? And that the Environmental Protection Agency has classified the home as a potential health hazard? Recently, we've seen many articles about the dangers of air pollution in our homes. Question is, what can we do about it? Well, Soil Shield has begun offering a whole line of products that reduce indoor air pollution in your home. And in the next few minutes, we'll share with you a lot of simple and useful tips that will make your home cleaner and even more beautiful, while protecting your health and the health of your family. Today's homes are better sealed and insulated. But that means reduced ventilation. Because of this, we have created a health problem through increased exposure to fumes from synthetic substances in building materials and fabrics, to harsh chemicals found in many popular cleaning and personal care products, and to dust and other allergens that are trapped inside our homes, which means increased exposure to germs and to these. This is a microscopic view of a dust mite. These live organisms flourish in dust found in carpets, upholstery, and bedding. Needless to say, germs and dust mites aren't good for our health. Many ailments, including headaches, eye, ear, nose, and throat irritations, and allergies, are aggravated by dust. So cleaning up dust isn't just about making our homes look nice. It's also about protecting our health. The average home accumulates over 40 pounds of dust in a single year, and a single tablespoon of dust contains over five million germs. How can we get rid of all this dust and still have time to do anything else? Well, there are probably things you're doing right now, but you could be doing them better. I'm talking about things like doormats, vacuuming, upholstery cleaning, carpet cleaning, and dusting. I'll bet you'd be surprised by some of the ways you could reduce 80 percent of the dust presently in your home. Fifty percent of the dust in our home walks in on the soles of our feet. But doormats, not only outside the front door, but inside all entryways, will significantly reduce that amount. Vacuum your mats weekly and wash them once a month. Whether you want a canister or an upright, here's three tips that can turn your vacuum into a SuperVac. First, one leisurely pass with your vacuum is more efficient than five quick passes. Second, after a year or two, belts can stretch and cause your machine to run 50 percent less efficiently. And finally, and most importantly, is the vacuum bag. Bags are designed to let the air pass through them without the dust passing through. Unfortunately, even the best store-bought bags only trap dust particles down to five microns or larger. This allows fine dust, dust mites, spores, allergens, and other pollutants to re-enter the air in your home. To solve this problem, Soil Shield has introduced the new high-efficiency Smart Bag, developed by one of the world's leading carpet fiber manufacturers. This new bag traps dust particles down to one-half micron. In this demonstration, you can see the dramatically better results you'll get when you use the Smart Bag. The Smart Bag is 25 times more efficient than ordinary paper bags in catching fine dust particles, greatly reducing the pollutants which can enter your home. Smart Bags are recyclable and much stronger than ordinary paper bags. Only available through Soil Shield, a package of three Smart Bags sells for only $9.95. To order, call Soil Shield at 1-800-852-2880. One last tip about your bags. Most of us change them when they're either full or they break. However, a bag that is only one-third full can reduce the efficiency of your machine by over 50%. Now, that's why, whether you use Smart Bags or store-bought bags, it's one-third it's wise to change them frequently. We wash our clothes regularly. Why not our carpet? Dr. Michael Berry of the EPA states, every time carpets and fabrics are emptied of their pollutant buildup through professional cleaning methods, there is a health benefit. That's because up to one pound of dust can accumulate in a square yard of carpet before it's noticeable. And that's why you don't want to wait until your carpet begins to look soiled before it's cleaned. In fact, the EPA recommends that a two-person household have their carpets and fabrics cleaned twice a year. Now, you basically have these choices when it comes to carpet cleaning. You can buy or rent a carpet cleaning machine, or you can hire a professional, which is what Soil Shield recommends. Use this criteria when calling to hire a professional cleaning company. Ask for their length of time in business. Check for membership in professional organizations. Ask if the cleaning technician coming to your home is experienced and certified. Will they move your furniture before cleaning? Ask what type of cleaning method they use. Hot water extraction is best. Do they provide carpet and upholstery protection, preferably Soil Shield? Check their references. Be cautious of companies offering a ridiculously low price. It may cost you more in the end. Because Soil Shield works with the finest professional cleaners nationwide, call us for a recommendation of one in your town. According to industry statistics, a person owns a piece of upholstery for an average of nine years, yet will professionally clean that upholstery just once. But the upholstered furniture manufacturers recommend professional cleaning of upholstery at least once a year, and the Environmental Protection Agency recommends that a two-person household clean their upholstered fabric twice a year. Now, why is the EPA so concerned about your upholstery? Well, just like your carpet, upholstery can accumulate a large amount of dust without you noticing it. And as we discussed, dust just isn't healthy. Up until now, your options for upholstery cleaning have been like those for carpet cleaning. You can buy or rent a cleaning machine, or hire a professional, but now you can clean it yourself quickly and economically with the Renew Upholstery Cleaning Kit from Soil Shield. It comes with a washable mitt, just like the pros use. Its penetrating action loosens dirt, soils, and stains, like juice, soda, chocolate, and pizza. Simply apply Renew to the mitt and clean. That's easy. You'll be able to clean three pieces of upholstery in less than an hour. Renew leaves no sticky residue. It leaves fabrics feeling plush and smelling fresh. It also contains Soil Shield to protect the fabric from future spots and spills. Renew is for in-between professional cleanings, and the entire kit is only $24.95. It's available through your furniture store or by calling Soil Shield's toll-free number at 1-800-852-2880. We all know how to dust, right? You take a cloth, maybe some spray product, and you start wiping. You see, I picked up some dust. Unfortunately, and what's harder to see, is an awful lot of dust simply got pushed off of the table and is now floating around the room and settling on the carpet. Now, let me show you a totally revolutionary dust cloth, the Dust Wizard. Based on Zymid fabric technology, the Dust Wizard has millions of microscopic loops which not only traps dust particles, but attracts them like a magnet. That combined with electrostatic properties makes it the most effective cloth available. This patented fabric need not be moistened with a dust spray. Dust won't shake off. When it finally gets fully loaded with dust particles, you can simply wash it and reuse it. It still works after 100 washings. If you still wish to use dust spray, you may, and it makes Dust Wizard even more effective. You'll only need a little. Besides furniture, the Dust Wizard is great as a dust mop for hardwood floors. Previously, this unique product was only available to professional cleaning companies, but it's offered now by your furniture store or soil shield. A two cloth set of Dust Wizards is only $6.95.
