Good evening ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the Sydney Entertainment Centre and a very, very special occasion because tonight the National Nine Network and affiliated stations throughout the country proudly present live in concert that most dynamic of performers, Mr Elton John.
Now this is in fact Elton's final Australian appearance before a world tour that takes in over 20 countries.
He starts here and he goes everywhere and tonight in fact already is the climax, the climax of an amazingly successful tour of Australia and New Zealand because in Australia alone over 300,000 fans have attended his concerts and tonight well there's a further 12,000, some of you can see here who are waiting to be enjoyed, entertained in a great way indeed.
And for Elton it's a special night too because he calls it his Thank You Australia concert and he regards it as a tribute to a country that is very special to him. Two low for zero, candle in the wind, crystal, I'm still standing, song for guy, you're going to hear them all.
From this amazing performer he's sold over 8 million records of an incredibly universal appeal I must say because if you look at the audience tonight as you will as the show goes through you'll find that it's a very diverse range of ages.
