The memorable music of Disney comes alive this summer as Disney's symphonic fantasy continues on its 22 city North American tour. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, great. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, great. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, great. The following presentation has been closed captioned for the hearing impaired. Joyous as the Disney Channel salutes the American teacher. By the time I was in high school, there was no stopping me. I knew I was going to be a music teacher and I was going to have a high school band and that was it. The music program at this California high school is one of the most highly acclaimed in the country. Hello, I'm Michael Eisner, head of the Walt Disney Company. Musicians at Mountain View High School have the opportunity to choose from a marching band, symphonic band, jazz band, wind ensemble, or even a combo. However, for department director Robin Kramer, becoming a successful musician is just the beginning. Robin's concern and compassion for the total well-being of her students inspires them to hit the high notes. Music is a wonderful metaphor for life and I think that it's so easy to teach using music the kinds of skills necessary to have a successful life. You know, look at problems in your life that seem insurmountable and break them down and keep after them day after day just like practicing until you can finally do it. She truly cares about the band. It's not just another job tour. It's her life basically and she gives everything of herself to us. One, two, one, two, three, four. The other thing about music that I think is so important in today's world is that it in and of itself needs the cooperation and the understanding and the balance of people's differences. We need to balance a trumpet with a clarinet with a flute with a drum just as in our world we need to balance our races and our differences in order to really have, if you will, a symphony of life. I think because students love music and because they have a concept of what it should sound like, they're willing to risk dealing with each other's differences and accepting them. Good morning. Are you all happy this morning? Yeah. Oh good. On the third of March, I heard my uncle play in LA with a big huge symphonic band and he was a trumpet soloist and stood out in front of the band and that just made such an impact. I mean it made my hair stand on end and we created these preschool visits to the band so they could see the band up close and personal. Look right in there and see if you can see the music coming out. Do you think you can? Let's see. Did you see it? She saw it Joe! We made magic! And then I have each of the kids come up that are brave enough and they actually conduct the band and it's wonderful. You can see the expression on their face, you know, it's just incredible. The things that make her successful are her ability to communicate with people, to empathize, to act with as a unique human being. The entire music department is set up to be largely student run and that's something I believe very strongly in the student ownership of the program. We have a music council and that was started immediately when I took this job. And if you need extra help be prepared to discuss that. I don't care if they're going to have an effect. I don't care if they're going to treat their employees like they're going to have an effect. Or if they're in a family and they don't care about their children and that has to happen. One, two, three. The teaching is that the kids are scared and I understand fully how scared they are when they're not spontaneous. It's so great. But on the other hand when it works and it sounds good and you start to build that confidence, that lasts a lifetime and that applies to so many other kinds of things, just ability to take a risk. Okay, good, good. That will do it. It's a constant thing to keep the subdivision going, to keep driving and you need to think ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding. Always. She's really masterful at what she does. I mean she gives you some hard music, but you know at the beginning you don't think you can do it. Then she tells you you can do it. She'll teach you how to do it and then you do it and you're amazed that you did it. What I like most about being a teacher is the look in my students eyes when they understand something or when they accomplish something that they didn't think they could. If students can experience that in enough different venues, you know, then pretty soon they start realizing that that ability to succeed comes from within them. It doesn't come from a teacher. It doesn't come from their parents. That's something that they had to find deep inside themselves. And when I see it happening and realize that I have really the honor of being part of it and being witness to it, that's the best. This series is presented in partnership with Delta Airlines and the Coca-Cola Company. Next, Barbara Stanwyck and Clifton Webb sail towards love and betrayal on the Titanic. She's the queen of rock and roll. From when she first burst onto the scene to her sizzling concert performances of today. But it wasn't always that way. I didn't like my life. And thanks to you for being part of our 10 wonderful years. And the music special, the Dave Clark Five Live in the 60s. Watch me now. It's actually recorded from our performances around the world, live performances, and the Disney Channel wanted us to put a special, a DC-5 special together. I'm very pleased with it because it's got all that hit. The Dave Clark Five was Britain's first 60s group to tour the United States. Their tours combined with 18 nationwide appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show helped the DC-5 score 15 consecutive top 20 hits, more than anyone except the Beatles. Their distinct big beat music went on to sell 50 million records worldwide. The 60s music depicted the times. It wasn't sophisticated. The songs were important because the songs were simple. The most important thing about the song is you walk out and you can hum it. With the DC-5 music, it was made purely for enjoyment. You know, I left all the message songs to John Lennon. The DC-5 music was pure escapism. The most exciting record I made was my very first record, Do You Love Me. Everybody's talking about a DC-5 record that's special to me because that's one of my favorites. It takes you right back to that era and makes you feel good. As Britain's first independent recording artist producer, Clark managed the band, controlled the rights to the songs, which was rare at that time, and even pioneered the first music video, which aired on Ed Sullivan. Now, in conjunction with the Walt Disney Company, he's reissuing the DC-5 catalog after its 20-year absence from record stores in a specially remastered two-CD set. Go back and remaster 50 tracks for this new double CD. I had to go back and find every original master. So I got the original engineer that worked with me in the 60s, and he had to look up the logs and get them out of storage for the make-up tape and how it was spliced. And we got right back to the original Virgin Masters, and I'm hearing things on the CD now that I've never heard on a vinyl record. The only time I ever heard that was in the studio when I recorded it. The history of the Dave Clark 5 from Disney's Hollywood Records will be available in stores August 3rd. And the U.S. premiere of the Dave Clark 5, live in the 60s, can now be seen exclusively on the Disney Channel. I'd like to show you where the name of the place is. I love you like...
