Last year in the United States, the typical farm animal was vaccinated against serious disease. Regrettably, 40% of this country's two-year-old children and millions more all over the world were not. To help us make sure every child can get immunized, please write now. After all, shouldn't we treat our children at least as well as animals? Next on Disney. For the first time ever, Disney animators have joined forces with video game experts to create a groundbreaking video game. It's called Disney's Aladdin, based on the animated hit movie. What I think is exciting about this is that it allows the player to become a part of the movie. It's very interactive. Developed for the Sega Genesis system, the Aladdin video game captures the magic of the animated film. It's got great action, great visuals, great sound, and in this case, a story that contains all kinds of humor. And by using revolutionary technology, Disney's Aladdin has improved upon video game animation. When we developed Aladdin, we incorporated our new digital process, and that enabled an incredible amount of fluid animation to be incorporated into a game like none other before. Typically in the video game industry, animation is drawn on computer, but in the case of the new Aladdin video game, all the scenes were drawn in the traditional way, on paper. The result? Superior motion for more realistic gameplay. And while players follow Aladdin on his quest to find the magic lamp, they will hear music from the movie's Oscar-winning soundtrack. My goal was to get the Genesis to sound like it's never sounded before. It does all the same things, but it does everything better, and I think that's the difference between this game and games that we've done in the past. And innovation in video game animation. Disney's Aladdin lets technology's genie out of a bottle. The following presentation has been closed captioned for the hearing impaired. There's not much I can add to the story of that great trooper, Donald Duck. For a fellow who's been through so much, the fact that he can still laugh as though he has not a care in the world is miraculous. The Duck has not only survived, he has prevailed. Faulkner said that in his Nobel Prize speech. And who is to say that it was not Donald Duck he was thinking about? Perhaps Edmund Lear had Duck in his head when he composed this odd classic limerick. There was an old man who said hush and perceived a young bird in the bush. When they said, is it small? He replied, not at all. It's four times as big as the bush. I do hope we can take all that to heart and even meditate upon it. Meanwhile, the Duck, in a long night's journey in the day, here he is in Drip Drippy Donald. Wake up, Mr. Duck. I'm so sleepy. You haven't paid your water bill, so we're going to cut off your water. Well this is your humble host, George Swimpton, saying good night. The following presentation has been closed captioned for the hearing impaired. Time for a celebration. I'm George Plimpton. Today on Masterpiece Theatre, it's time for the irresistible animal Goofy, a salute to the most optimistic and unflappable teacher in the Disney menagerie. Goofy's seminar seldom challenged Mr. Chipps in results, but that celebrated Greek anonymous may have been speaking in Goofy's behalf when he wrote, teaching is the fine art of imparting knowledge without possessing it. Well, there's Goofy for you. For his first challenge, the subject is sleep. Shakespeare said, sleep knits up the rabble sleeve of care. But Goofy, an insomniac in his own bed, apparently cares too much to find peaceful rest. The arms of Morpheus have never embraced Goofy. Undaunted as you'll see, he's here to find a way. The film is called How to Sleep. Do you know that you spend about a third of your life in bed? Since the beginning of time, man has always had the problem of sleeping. In the dark ages, man tried to sleep on bare stone, seeking better methods, he tried hay. The next great advance was wood, but the termites kept him awake. And finally, he tried metal. One of which evolved the form-fitting innerspring mattress of today. Man has learned there are various ways to attain sleep. He can be walk to sleep, talk to sleep, I know what you'll think, George, are you listening? Walk to sleep, rock to sleep, and sock to sleep. Contrary to popular belief, research shows people do not sleep like logs, they sleep like the frog, the dog, like the ostrich, the mole, the bear, and like the owl. Today, more and more people find it increasingly difficult to obtain a good night's sleep. They are the victims of today's mad pace of existence. While others perform their daily toil, they sleep too hard at work, and work too hard at sleep, asleep on his feet, hardly able to stay awake long enough to go to bed. This man has a problem, for once having made his bed, he can't sleep in it. However, if one scientifically approaches the sleeping problem, like adjusting bedding, science has discovered that fresh air is beneficial to health, and thus we find the properly ventilated room most conducive to breathing, allowing the lungs and other respiratory organs to assimilate and perform to the maximum efficiency. However, if the temperature should fall below the prerequisites of bodily comfort, then an electric blanket makes one as warm as toast, hot milk is very soothing, and of course, counting sheep to sleep never fails. Always on the march, science isn't asleep on the job. Today, science has given man a chance to sleep as he's never slept before. Using the yawn-inducing plaque as a starter, the anti-snore chin strap, ear stoppers, eye shade and head warmer, and the anti-toss and turn suit, the sleeper is completely outfitted, gently tucked into bed, and softly rocked by the mattress pulsating machine. The music soothes each jangled nerve as the seismographic chart gives science an insight of the subject's reaction. This sensitive machine records electrical waves sent out by the brain. Every minute detail is transcribed as each tiny thought takes shape. Thus, science proves that dreams definitely affect the subconscious mind. Science approaches the problem with renewed vigor. Science calls on every available resource and listing Mother Nature's help, every possibility is scientifically approached. Science leaves nothing to chance. Constant research and ingenuity plus know-how enables science to come up with the answer to man's sleeping problem. And so today, as it must to all men, sleep came to Mr. Geeve. Science marches on. In the 1935 film Mickey's Fire Brigade, Disney approaches a situation which at that time could be considered family humor. Today, in these enlightened times, it would be thought somewhat risque. The boys, Mickey, Goofy, and Donald, as a gallant volunteer fire brigade, break into a smoldering house and find inside a disrobed lady in the bathtub. Now, there's no need to reach for the television dial. The damsel happens to be used to nudity. It is none other than the early Disney stalwart Clarabelle Cow. Another 20 years would pass before Brigitte Bardot stepped out of her shower without a towel. But Disney, always ahead of the crowd. Cheerful, cheerful,avant-garde music and conclude the day by theatre opera. ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...
