Hello again and welcome to Classic Crows. Today another game against Hawthorn and if it seems like every other week they play the Hawks, you're right, they just seem to feature in the Crows' memorable matches. In this game it's the middle of the season 1995. Hawthorn has kept Adelaide Schoolers for nearly a half in wet and miserable conditions. Simon DeGenza managed a great goal just before the break but still plenty of less than committed Crows fans were leaving at the break. They missed one of the great comebacks. You won't so sit back and enjoy. Keen to the right here at Football Park. It's not quite a packed house tonight. I wonder whether that tells us anything from last week. Look at the Jarman boys in the thick of things. And Johnny Platten won't mind these conditions. Loves to come home and perform. And he sends the Hawks down towards the half forward line. Goes over the top of the pack. Jarman can he get, moved the ball. No he can't and Richudo should be able to clear. Gets the hand pass away to Trogenza. Trogenza goes to the outer side. Hollander's away but there's been a whistle and he's going to come right back. Hawthorn three here. Could be Hudson who'll take it. We'll wait and see. Platten has the football. Paul Hudson. He's kicked 10-10. So far this season. Here he is in game number 104. Can he give the Hawks the start they would dearly love. A good looking drop pass. Jamison. Pumps it to the outer side. The Hawks have the numbers. Platten. Trogenza tries to sock her off the ground in a little bit of danger. Says the umpire. Don't do that. Platten has made a busy start. Got a big testimonial coming up for him and McGuinness at Leander on the 24th of June for Hawthorn fans. I know they'll want to support that. Oh here's the go at the back. Coop will go into an open goal. Come out from Mindenconnell. Adelaide yet to score. Yes many of the Crow victories over here in Adelaide particularly have been from really good starts and Hawthorn have won a couple of games like this by starting well so it really is an acid test now for the Crows. Remember last year what 97 points. Yeah Holland inside the 50 knocked down in front. This is Hudson tackled. The hand pass was good. Stephenson off one step it's a goal. Now Pittman gets it across to support. Tired looking kick from Connell. Mark just inside the field of play by Graham. Well done. Short one is on. He finds Taylor. Back to Graham. They're making it look pretty easy. They're absorbing a lot of pressure this defense. Platten had it bounce off his chest. Mindenconnell's hand pass intended for Talis. Talis 40 meters out brilliantly. No. Hudson almost brilliantly picked it up on the half volley but gets the ball. Croft kicks and puts it through his second. Well he just felt for sure that the Hawthorn goal was coming and once again the opportunist in Paul Hudson kicks his second goal. Gives it away to Jamison. Thought about Anderson short as the change is made for the Adelaide pros. And it's going to be kept in on that out of sight. Here comes Dunstall. 40 meters out 45 degree angle. Jamison asking the question saying it wasn't a bump ball. No. He's kicked four points so far if you count that one off the ground. Once again the kick from Cooper. They really do set up Dunstall very well. Quick off the mark. Well let's see what he can do this time for his first goal of the night. Leans back on that one. That's going to really hurt. Hawthorn marks on. And we're in the second quarter only. But a couple of quick goals with eight minutes remaining. They've got the numbers on the out of sight. Stephenson is there. Has a look up towards Hudson in the left forward pocket. One, two grabs. At the moment they lead by 39 points. Hudson. 46 meters. Drop punt into the front of the square almost a mark to Mitten-Connell who came flying over the top. I've got a question. What comes off after the wheels come off? Because we saw the wheels come off last Saturday night. I think the yard might be up for sale. There's Jamison. That's better. Proud love that. Straight down the middle. See what happens. Anderson kicks it very high down towards center half forward. So two kicks and they've moved the ball out of their forward line. Tragenza is away. Tragenza runs inside the 50s settles. Have they got their first goal? Yes they have. Oh that long kick. Yes I suppose we've mentioned that Dennis hadn't we about that. Super nice. Just go up down the middle and get Blaise running the ball. Probably really did set that up then. Tragenza's had his hands full tonight but great confidence and great ground isn't it. When you think of the bouncing ability to throw it into the ground and come up on a super night like this is really remarkable for this great ground. Pittman wins it down to Con. They want the first one. The Crows and this crowd will come to life. Hart pushes the ball down inside 50. Hart is going to have a shot. A left foot snap goes out inside and that is the start they want. Bittenhart kicks their second. Well what took them 58 minutes previously in the first half is now less than a minute in this first half, second half sorry. Bittenhart, great skills, great tap on. There's actually a bit to two here. Hawthorne has got the ball out the middle and Hawthorne has played on very, very quickly down the ground. Unbelievable this. There's Taylor, he's got this ball at left half forward. Well, he dug it out of the center. Taylor suddenly with an opportunity from half forward. 5'11 to 2'1. This would take some wind out of the sails. Taylor from long range misses to the near side. Jemison straight down the middle. Smart, big leap, couldn't hang on. Anderson slaps it out. Bickley was taken high surely. And the whistle has gone. Despite the conditions, not a lot of free kicks. Natalie getting their fourth. Bickley from center half back then towards the middle. Up in front Gibson, behind McCloud, feeds the hand pass onto Jem, Jem and kicks down towards right half forward. Modra hasn't seen a lot of the ball tonight. Langford with courage and you know that Modra was going to attempt his soccer and he was still prepared to dive in there. And now it's going to be a free kick to the Hawks, the ball going out of bounds on the floor. McCloud's been good Dennis, just his more than the most hasn't he? He hasn't worked for Port Arlene. He's just put some good hands around. Yeah. I think he's playing that just deliberate has he? On the floor. Yeah right. Okay. So the kick comes towards the wing. Holland in front, juggled attempt. Connell moved it about 10 meters. Here's the man Malcolm was speaking of. McCloud, long kick, gained about 50 meters. Held without the ball was Kruzek. No free kick. Now Modra with his back to go as he held without it. Play goes on. Hats off is it true? I'm not sure if it's touched. I don't think so. Goal. Amazing. This Ben Hart up forward, one off the ground. It really went through two players. Then it was really quite special in here. He really thought Modra might have tried to suck it off the ground. He looked at the ball. And Hart missed an airy, second to Hawthorne player's hands. Goal. Set her in the free. Here we go again. Oh they've come to life here. He's been quite aggressive tonight, Tarrant. He really has played a hit man goal. I don't mean that but he's been very, very physical around the footy and unfortunately he's just played the penalty there. It was absolutely unneeded wasn't it? Well if you're late getting back to your seat after half time you've missed a bit haven't you? We've crammed a lot into two minutes. And Tragenz is hoping to cram a little more. From 40 metres. Oh they're alive and well. And back in town. And back in town. What is so wild it will make your heart race. And now a message from South Australia's leader in first class cars. And that's the Bob we all love. What a first class offer. This month only at Bob Moran Cars. And that's the Bob we all love. And that's the Bob we all love. Yes you, you'd look at him, he'd pick him out wouldn't he? Andrew McLeod. It's bound to happen in modern footy though. With setups and all that sort of stuff. Just occasionally you see that. A chance to make the margin one point. Going to be kicking from just on 40 metres. Gets underneath the drop part. The margin is one point. So five goals this quarter. 15 minutes of footy on every three minutes. He's a great strike rate as we watch straight Jinky. I think he just might have kicked the ground in Bob. Looking at the bottom of his boot just touched the ground. A real chink now in the Hawthorne armour. They've been asked the question and the youngster's very happy about it indeed. Now Matt we're talking about 1995 and the game we all remember. The one point win against Hawthorne when Andrew McLeod kicked that goal. Yeah certainly that was a big game for 95. Probably our best win for the year. We came off a loss previous week to Fitzroy so everyone was down the dumps pretty low. But bounced back strongly in that game. I think we had a couple of points to half time. We were goalless and just turned it on the last quarter. Andrew McLeod's day cost like goal in the last quarter was just sensational and grabbed his victory. Now the season for 1995 apart from that game it was pretty disappointing but for you, your club champion award really capped off a great year. Yeah looking back on it was. It was a big challenge coming over in season 95. Things worked out reasonably well for myself personally. But you're in a team game and you want to win games and we didn't do enough of that so hopefully next year we can rectify that. Now 96 disappointing with injury. 96 was an absolute nightmare as far as injury goes and form goes and losing goes. It was just one to keep in the past and I'm looking forward to next year. If you look at some days at diamonds and some days at dogs in 95 it was basically the diamond. Yeah in a way. In a way I think footies like that. It's pretty hard to come up each year and play really well but hopefully we get a diamond next year. Now big moves over the summer. Some players gone but also a new coach. Yeah look he's a breath of fresh air at the moment. It's fantastic you have him down there and he's just so interesting to listen to all the time. You're always learning something from him. So it's looking great for next year. Everyone's very positive and Malcolm Blight will certainly make us a lot better team. Now Matt 1997 you've got another team in town. Port Adelaide. Oh fantastic. I think it's fantastic having Port as rivals in the town to take a lot of the pressure off ourselves. I wish them all the best and we'll certainly be trying to knock them off early. That game at Football Park the derby the first one April 20th. Is that one that you've penciled in that you really want to make Adelaide yours? Oh yeah that's a game that's going to be in the context of the season I suppose an early win would be great and if you've got to look at it that way it's just another team. It's going to be a big game and it should be great. He was the crazy inventor. You look like a man who can do with a haircut. It's alright sir. Who redefined the term convertible car. Standing affairs I say in the old days Sandy and this is going to be exciting to watch it. The entire plays 42 Hawthorne in front. But it's all running with the crows in the third quarter. Senior players particularly a German quite inspiration. Smart races for the football but he's edged out of it. It's pushed towards the boundary line by Lee and over. Dunstall caught behind off hands Lee unable to take it. Down there working hard again. Jamison is there as well for the crowd. That's it is tough. What John is doing in the last 20 minutes or so towards three quarter time. Now this I mean the other players don't lift because of his example. They never will. It's inspirational stuff isn't it. Fantastic to watch as well. This could be dangerous. The margin is three points. The Hawks did not score a goal in the third quarter. Yeah. Kicks for goal. A very important kick for Hawthorne and he's got it. Jarman will take the kick. Just checking his figures. 11 and eight. His brother 18 and two. The hard work is something you can't measure from Andrew as he kicks it around the outer side. McDermott drops the mark. Callis has worked hard knocks it forward. Darren Jarman quickly onto the boot. Well done by Jamison again. He's been a resolute defender. Hits for the boundary line. It ricochets off Stevenson against the flow out there as Lee stood up in the tackle. Run it to Anderson. Jarman once more. The short one is on Bickley. Well Bickley has an understanding with Jarman as he boots it towards the outer side. Up in front with his heart. Loose ball behind McCartney. 55 meters at Bacon. Goal squared. It skips through. Goal. Hits first. It's going to be a really direct kick from Mark Bickley who is a direct player. Jarman set it up for going early from the back end and that was the time they needed. They've got this really open foreline. It's most unusual. And McCartney, not a quick play but ran under it beautifully and kicked the goal. Great reply from McCrows. The margin back to three points. Here we go in the middle. Sock it off the ground by Tragenza. They're down towards McCloud territory once again. Pesh. Nick Pesh to put them in front. Yes. It's only his ninth game but he'll remember that kick maybe. Wants to go. Told a play on across to Tallis. I've liked his game. Probing. Kick it up. Beauty. That was centimeter perfect. Wants to clear the man in front. And there was a man closing from behind. No margin for error there. That's not a fantastic jump. About 30 meters out. 45 degree angle. Stabs it low. Stabs it true. That's his second. Timely goal from the skipper. Plattongo storming through. Look at Plattongo. Gets it across to Hudson. Hudson has a look up towards Dunstall at full forward. There's a couple of options there. Jarman's waiting down in front for the Crows. Andrew Jarman kicks it back towards the center. Time ticking away now. McDermott short kick just goes in towards the middle and Brown and McCarthy. Neither can take it. They pounce upon it. It is absolute desperate stuff here. It's fantastic to watch. Well if the Crows get up and win this to play of the night, Jamison, you just beat two of them down there on the back line. So just over a minute Pesce comes away. Big roll from the crowd. Ticks inside the 50. They turn the defense around. McLeod looking for his 50th possession. Deep in the pocket. Stops it. Was he held? He goes on. Up and go. Oh! An unlikely hero. He gets his second goal. But he has been special. He has really loved the batting. Not bad. Andrew McLeod, the coast of L.A., is getting a standing ovation. 54 seconds to go. And they lead by two points. And this is the play that they've been trying to do. Getting McLeod getting in behind Jenke. What a fantastic kick. Unbelievable. Robert Shaw sits in. They may have just got it. Hawthorne who were bound storming in the first half. Smart towards the boundary line. I think they like that. I think they're very, very happy with that. He's living every moment isn't he? Robert Shaw. Certainly is. But he's only got a couple of seconds to go. Shades of a final. Shades of a final. No coincidence. Robert Shaw made strike for Amber Jarmusch. Marriage wouldn't be over. Well, Robert Shaw and the boys pretty happy. It's those games, the ones where everything seems lost, yet you still win, that really worlds teams together. And that game was all of that and more. Well, next week we go way back to 1991. We've heard all about Adelaide not being able to win in Melbourne. Well, this is the club's first win in Victoria. And there's plenty of old names going around too. Marshall who's had an excellent second half so far. Centering kick by the veteran. And that was just what he wanted to because the mark has been taken down there by Hart. Left foot kick by that player up to the 50 metre line. Gathered by Lindner. Little bit too clever. Then gave the ball away. Nicholls has it for Richmond. Kick to centre wing. Mark is taken by Filkey. This is Abernathy. Klug. He may even kick another Adelaide goal here. John Klug. Into an open goal goes Hocky and gets another one for Adelaide. Well, next week the Crows in Richmond. See you then.
