Ronald Reagan tonight urged Americans to rally behind his plan to arm Nicaragua's confra rebels.
In a nationally televised address, the president challenged Congress to act before what he called
the malignancy in Managua spreads.
In the Democratic response, Tennessee Senator Jim Sasser agreed Nicaragua must never become a base
for Soviet military adventurism, but he said the president is seizing military options
before exhausting avenues for a peaceful solution.
The House will vote on President Reagan's contra-aid request this Thursday.
