a Yakima man could be charged with attempted murder later this week for allegedly stabbing his cousin
bail is $300,000 for 44-year-old Jesus Abundas Mada
prosecutors say Mada stabbed his 33-year-old cousin Efren Sosedo Christmas night
it happened at 511 North 2nd Street police say the two men began arguing then Mada stabbed Sosedo five times in the neck and chest
his injuries are not life-threatening
one jail inmate took corrections officers by surprise today when he tried to escape
officials say Christopher Sumner bolted from the courtroom and down the hall in the basement of the jail
one officer put him in a bear hug at the end of the hall until help arrived
public information officer Ken Rink says this has only happened a few times since the jail opened back in 1985
he says Sumner had a very poor chance of escaping
Sumner is being held on charges of second degree assault and possession of a dangerous weapon
escape will likely be added to that list of offenses he is also being held on a federal warrant
the conviction of a Yakima attorney on drug charges has been overturned by the Washington State Court of Appeals
the court says Yakima police illegally recorded a conversation between attorney Fred Porter seen here and one of his clients
police first arrested Porter three years ago for allegedly exchanging legal services for drugs
but in a recent decision the court of appeals said police did not do everything they could in their investigation
before resorting to the taped conversation they say it violated Porter's right to privacy
Yakima County says it will be ready for New Year's Eve and Y2K should be no serious problem
