And the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee sets a date to talk about impeachment. Good evening, I'm Kimberly Kennedy. Thank you for joining us. George may have weakened to a tropical storm, but it continues to wreak havoc along the Gulf Coast. It has stalled near Biloxi, Mississippi, and it's maximum... ...coming in. And it sounded like the freight train, like everybody talks about. We all went to one side of the house, and it passed. And from then on, we've been up pretty much all night and all day. It just sounded frightening to hear all the wind gusts and the trees. The house survived, but the roof is now leaking. Everything in the attic is wet, and all the insulation, and it was just pouring from the attic down into here. The eye of Hurricane George passed right over Biloxi. Perla's son-in-law took advantage of the hour of calm to try to fix the leak. During that quiet time, when the eye came over, it just ran out and did it, got the ladder, jumped up there, and did the best we could. There is still no electricity and no telephone service here, as is the case in tens of thousands of Mississippi homes. And that has led to Linda Giardelli's only continuing fear. And I have a son who I'm still waiting to hear from, so that's the biggest fight for me. A curfew is still in effect, so people are not supposed to go out. But once it's lifted, which could be as early as Tuesday, many happy family reunions will take place. Gary Tuchman, CNN, Biloxi, Mississippi. New Orleans may have enspaired the worst of George, but thousands of people remain in shelters. More than 10,000 evacuees are waiting out the storm in the Superdome. Mr. Clinton saying the two leaders have made significant progress on the path towards peace. So all told, it was a good day. But that doesn't mean they've reached a final agreement. The House Judiciary Committee will begin debate next Monday on whether to start an impeachment inquiry of allegations against President Clinton. Chairman Henry Hyde says his committee has finished reviewing 50,000 pages of documents turned over by Ken Starr, and they will be ready for release later this week. Twenty boxes of documents that were not delivered with the Starr report will be reviewed by a bipartisan group of committee lawyers. Democrats suspect Starr may be holding back evidence that could help the president. Hyde says the question for his committee now is whether the allegations against Mr. Clinton merit further investigation. He says he hopes to work out an arrangement with Democrats on procedural issues that might arise during possible impeachment hearings. I don't want unilateral anything. I want him to share in that. I want the president to be able to call witnesses. I want this to be as fair as humanly possible without opening ourselves up to such delay and obstruction that we can't proceed. I'm assuming goodwill and good faith on their side, as I hope they're assuming on mine, despite the spin, and we'll try to negotiate those things. Hyde also says the subcommittee hearing will be called to help lawmakers define what crimes fall under impeachable offenses.
