On there, stuff it, gather it in the middle, put a little rip around there, and then after it's all stuffed, then you, you know, seal up the other end. And then look at this one, you can decorate it. That's a great one. Then you hot glue gun a barrette or a pin or whatever to the end. This is a little one you see. These are all great ideas, you can do this really quick. And then you can give it to kids. Just like this. And Leon's a little snowman. Look at Leon. He's got some good and funnys in his head. You can make another one like that and give them as gifts and won't your friends be just thrilled to death. They'll be extremely excited. Alright, here we go. This is great. We wanted to show you, this came not only from a viewer but from a dear friend of the home show. You might remember Chris and Sarah Plunkett from Texas. We met them during the Coleman run. And they've been on the show a couple of times. This is their idea of a wreath. Is that true? Well, Sarah did this. Sarah's 14 and she did this for her one like this. This is a duplicate. She sent this to her brother who was in college and cramming for exams just a few weeks ago. Well, she knew he wouldn't be eating properly. So, he sent this hot water wreath. Great idea, Sarah. Which has got herb tea and it's got hot cocoa mix and it's got instant soup. All the things all I need to do is heat some water and he'd be eating properly. Okay, alright. Alright, thanks. We thought... To the Plunkett's. We had more to go anyway. We thought this is a great idea for personalizing wreaths. So, over here... Off she goes. Carol's off to the kitchen. Over here in the kitchen, we have more help. Now, that was an artificial wreath. The wreath that we have here in our kitchen are real wreaths and whoever thought I'd see Jackie Oden in the kitchen with a hot air gun. Merry Christmas, Carol. I know. I don't know how to use those things. It's scary. But you're doing so nicely. Is that okay? Alright. Now, this wreath is, of course, you know, Jackie, we've got all these cookie cutters and they're putting these on. And then, Jackie, I thought it would be kind of neat if we'd take some of your recipes from your cookbook, put them on little index cards and for cookies. Why didn't I think of that? Christmas cookie recipes from Jackie Oden along with the cookie cutters. You know what else you can do with these things? Make napkin rings out of them on the buffet table. I always stick my napkins through the cookie cutters. Isn't that a good idea? Oh, she gave me a craft idea. Now, Diane... I'm busy over here. Really. ...with the hot glue gun. That's right. I need the glue gun, yeah. See, now, this is the way, Sarah said, she did. She hot glue gunned the items to the end of a chenille stem and then took the other end of the chenille stem and wrapped it around the wreath itself. This is for, I have a feeling, a craft person or somebody who might want to be with every kind of glue and tape and sequins and all. But I have another one over here, too. This is cool. Oh, great. I think you took the film. I did. I have to roll a film to go on here. Anyway, I know. I'm sorry, but I... You know how it is. Anyway, I know how it is, yeah. A little tripod and picture frames and batteries for the camera. That's a nice gift because people always forget the batteries for the camera. Since you already took the film, why don't you just take the wreath? Oh, I'm going to take this for our next one because... All right. We have these little refrigerator maggots. We have a whole crew over here working on these. You can make these for most anybody and personalize them, too. All right. Oh, girls, we do have our busy little elves over here. Now, what these are, this is the old, and Kitty, you will remember this. This is our old paper napkin trick. But we're doing it a little differently this time because always we say tear, tear, tear. This time we're cutting, cutting, cutting. And using these two-inch tiles that you can get at the tile store like this and rip them off, and then good for you, you've already started. We're going to use some either white glue thinned with water or use like Mod Podge or an acrylic medium and just a thin layer. Glue, glue, glue on here. Then on goes the napkin. Cut larger. You've done very well already, my goodness. Cut larger than the tile itself. And when you put it on, you just tap, tap, tap, tap, tap. And then you can use the... I could use you a lot around, you know? Your left hand, huh? Like this to get it down. When it dries, then you go and put glue on the edges and fold it over. And then you have it like this. And of course, you put some of that magnetic tape stripping on the back. I never knew there was... This is great. You can peel off the back and you can... Oh, yeah. You can get it not only in craft stores but also in most hardware stores too. And I put a little piece of cardboard on there. Now, it does... These do not have to be... Excuse me. Just Christmasy. You can make a set of anything, nor do they have to be just the two inch ones, the one that we have down here. Excuse me, Kitty. In front of you, you can make trivets or coasters like this too. All right, girls. Keep busy, keep busy. I have to go see how in the world Will is doing over here. And if he's doing... Carol. Oh, my goodness. With all the help. Carol, you're not... Well, I don't know. This thing has gotten out of hand. Carol, I'm so into this. I can't... When do I stop? Oh, my... Oh, my goodness. Will. Oh, my... Oh, my goodness. Will. Oh, my goodness. Will. Oh, my goodness. Will. Oh, my goodness. Will. Oh, my goodness. Will. What do you think, huh? Will and I don't do anything half-blown, you guys. Oh, my goodness. We don't do anything half-blown. A brief profile of the foremost television journalists in the world today. ABC News. Changing the face of television news. We're back with Mark Summers and of course, Mark. Mark, how are you? We're great. San Diego yesterday. Having a great time as we here in the studio watch the independents steaming into San Diego Bay. Unfortunately, we went off the air before the dock, but you stayed. What was it like? It was one of the most emotional moments I've ever been through in my entire life. You really get into what's happening around there. The emotional part of the wives with the babies that the husbands haven't seen before. And the most remarkable thing was as that ship turned the corner and was docking, this beautiful rainbow appeared out of the sky and the ship looked like it was coming right underneath. Oh my gosh. And then the uniting of the families. Well, if you get goosebumps now, take a look at this tape. You will not believe what you see here. The celebration began before dawn when the Navy wives began preparing the dock for the impending homecoming. By daybreak, thousands of enthusiastic family members had gathered to greet their returning loved ones. They got an unexpected treat from a special camera we had set up at nearby Point Loma from which they could take their first look at the approaching ship. But the special part for me was the chance to share the morning with some of the women of the Independence family, like the captain's wife, Candy Ellis, Lori Lacey, and her three-month-old Sam, who had been born while his daddy was out at sea, and 73-year-old Ella Lockrey who had come all the way from Kentucky to surprise her grandson and shared part of a letter written from the Persian Gulf. Here can't wait to get home to see you and everybody else. This time I really miss Christmas at home, but it just wouldn't be Christmas if I didn't have you, Granny. Thank you so very much. If it wasn't for you, I don't know where I would be right now. I can just feel the emotion right over here with Mrs. Lockrey. You can feel it here, Gary. It's going to be a great Christmas for all these families here in the area. And then finally, after six months of active duty in the Gulf, the Independence had come home. I'm home! I'm home! I'm home! I'm home! I'm home! I'm home! I'm home! I'm home! As the crew members disembarked, I was touched by the joy of the reunions taking place all around me. And my husband, Pat, finally met his son for the first time. Oh, my goodness! Look at the family! Say hi, Dad! Look at the goodness smile for Daddy! He's got a big smile! You want to hold this baby, honey? Drop it! Drop it! Oh, look at him! Gold, huh? Patrick, what's going through your mind as you hold your son for the first time? This is great. It really is. This is, you know, after three months of waiting for this, and, you know, here he is. Well, you found your grandson, huh? Well, yeah, I finally found him. John, how are you feeling? I'm feeling happy. I'm glad to be home. It's been a long time. I've been out throwing the water so much, and I just have to be home and see everybody here. Were you surprised that you turned the corner and saw your grandmother? No, I was just astonished. It's like I went blank all of a sudden, you know, when I saw her, and it's like, it's just, you know, no words. I could explain it. It's just all out happy, you know, to see my grandmother. She's a very special lady. Anything that you'd like to say to her? Yes, that I love her, and I'll be with her for the rest of her life. How is this homecoming compared to others that you've had in the past? Again, I think in 24 years, I've never seen anything like it. I think at the support here, this is my 12th deployment, starting back in Vietnam. They were a lot different now than they were then. And I think the biggest thing, not only for us, but for those that are left over there now, the support that we get from home really meant a lot to us. It helped our morale, and I'm sure that if people keep those letters going to the folks that are still there, that's going to do a lot for the troops. Home for the holidays, I believe I've missed each and every place. Come on and play the music. Let's turn on every love life in the place. It's how I found my soul. Totally surrounded in your circles, oh, my friends. Please celebrate me home. Give me a number. Please celebrate me home. Play me one more song that I'll always remember. I can recall whenever I find myself too all alone, I can sing me home. This song makes me cry. This is killing me. This is killing me, I tell you. I don't know. I tell you, there's something so special about that. I guess it's all wrapped up in, this is such a great country we live in. And it's because of those kids. They're able to sit here and do this. I know, and you talk to them, and the sailors say, you know, we didn't get the job done, we want to go back. They have such strong feelings about the whole thing. To finish up with Ella, the grandma there with her cookies, every grandma makes cookies, and was so surprised. She raised that gentleman by herself, and he was totally surprised. We do have a few gifts here that the ship has brought. Gary, I know you have a hat collection, and the Independence would like you to have that. Oh, that's terrific. Thank you very much. We have a sweatshirt over here for Dana that says, United States Operation Desert Shield from the USS Independence. Thank you. Mark, our heartfelt thanks to you, and of course, our thanks to everybody associated with yesterday's celebration down in San Diego, the return of the USS Independence. Merry Christmas to all of us. This is called Make a Plate and it's by Make It Products. And it's a wonderful idea. They send you this paper and an envelope. And they instruct you to get your own watercolor pens. You have to use watercolor, I'll explain it why. And you do your own artwork on the paper that they provide. Here's a before picture. And they take this artwork, anything that you want, and literally laminate it into a dishwasher safe plastic plate. Yeah, so you look at that. Look at that. And now I want to tell you that you have to use these watercolor pens because otherwise it will bubble.
