A mom pays a male dancer for performing at her teenager's party. Now look at the trouble she's in. I think it was inappropriate. When you have a party, you're responsible for what happens in your home. Diva Sharon Stone, revealing secrets she couldn't tell her parents before the United Nations. I know that when I was a teenager and I was having sex in the back seat of a car, my parents wouldn't have thought this was a good thing. These women say their plastic surgeon disfigured them. I look like a freak. I know it's false. It's not true. Then there's a shocking claim he denies about eating pizza while performing surgery. All these people are blackmailing me. Examining the doctor. Plus, as he fights Parkinson's disease, looking back at Michael J. Fox. I just want to do good works. Little Michael's very first TV appearance. Now, Inside Edition with Deborah Norville. Hi everybody and thank you for joining us. Most parents figure it's okay to send their kids to a party if other parents will be around to chaperone. Well, some California moms and dads may be rethinking that. As Steve Noble tells us, when their daughters went to a party, it turns out that the main attraction wasn't the candy, but a stripper. Calling the matter of people versus Carrie McGrath. She looks like your typical mom, but what 39 year old Carrie McGrath is accused of had her trembling in court. Police say McGrath organized an all-girl Halloween party for her 15 year old daughter at her home in Pleasanton, California. But the party was more about tricks than trees. She allowed such a lewd and lascivious behavior to take place that the community is appalled. It all began with this flyer handed out at Amador Valley High, inviting its female students to a party at McGrath's home on October 30th. More than 40 teenage girls turned up, as well as 29 year old Stephen Schmidt, a professional stripper dressed like a cop, but he wasn't dressed for long. He stripped down to his G string and then subsequently took that off, so that he stripped down until he was nude and then fondled the breasts of some of the girls. Schmidt is charged with three counts of fondling girls aged 14 and 15, as well as having a sexual encounter with one of the underage girls. Schmidt has pleaded innocent to the charges and claims he had no idea the girls were so young. Police say not only did Carrie McGrath hire the stripper, seen here promoting his work on a male dancer's webpage, but she looked on as he performed. The mother did bring Mr. Schmidt into the home and laid the ground rules for the girls, darkened the room by turning the lights down low, and then was at least in the immediate vicinity for all or most of his act. But McGrath has a different story. She claims it was her 15-year-old daughter who hired the stripper without her knowledge. By the time she found out, it was too late. She initially made a statement to the police that she did not want to humiliate her daughter and cause him to stop his strip act in the middle of the act. Word of the stripper party in this quiet community outside San Francisco has the whole town talking. Obviously they're too young. That's just ridiculous to put kids in that kind of situation. But in court today, McGrath pleaded not guilty to a single count of exposing minors to lewd entertainment. Patty Grossman is McGrath's attorney. My client is a responsible parent. Her children are role models. They're straight-A students. They're actively involved in this community. And McGrath faces three years, Mr. Schmidt 12 years if either one of them is convicted. A doctor in California is fighting criminal charges. He's accused of violating the trust that patients place in their physician. Dacey Galande reports. It's just been a nightmare. It's been a complete nightmare. But I've learned a lesson. I will never trust a doctor again. 27-year-old April Slyker says her life was turned upside down the day she met this man, Dr. A. Steven Pernia. What exactly did he say to you? I was there for a shot, for an antibiotic shot. And he grabbed my wherein and he said, I like thick women. Then women don't have anything to grab onto. He gave me the shot and sent me on my way. On September 25, Dr. Pernia was taken into custody by police in Temecula, California. Because he complained of chest pains, he was never booked and taken to the hospital instead. On November 17, the ear, nose, and throat doctor, who also does cosmetic surgery, was re-arrested. Throughout the course of our investigation, we have found about six victims who have either been touched inappropriately or had some other type of sexual misconduct involving Dr. Pernia. Sheriff's Department spokesman Mark Lohman says Dr. Pernia was booked on suspicion of sexual battery, exploitation, and one other count of sexual misconduct. Dr. Pernia denies these charges and is now out on bail and back to work. But April says her problem with the 63-year-old doctor isn't just that he grabbed her. Last May, she says she went to him for a $4,000 breast surgery. Five operations later, she says her breasts are now disfigured. First time I got an infection, I had a lot of liquid pouring out of me, tons. I had excessive bleeding, a lot of bleeding after the third surgery. Anytime I went to him, I never really got fixed. This is quite shocking here. April is not alone with her malpractice claims. These women also went to the authorities with similar stories of botched surgeries by Dr. Pernia, a licensed physician and surgeon. All three say they found in the Yellow Pages. I refer to him as Dr. Piranha. Karen Combe went to Dr. Pernia in June for a tummy tuck. For $3,500, she says this is what she got. I looked like a freak. My self-esteem was so low. I had been bragging about my tummy tuck to everyone. Everyone wanted to see it, and I was just, I couldn't show it to anybody. When Karen returned to Dr. Pernia's office weeks later, she says she could see into the operating room during one of April's surgeries and couldn't believe what the doctor and his staff were doing. They ordered pizza and ate pizza while they were operating on her in the operating room. Debbie Swanson hoped Dr. Pernia could remove scarring on her face with collagen injections and laser surgery, but Debbie says all she got was a severe staph infection. The experience has left her emotionally drained. How do you think Dr. Pernia changed your life? I think it's just the trust. You lose trust in people. I consider myself a pretty intelligent person, and this just really humiliates you. It makes you feel bad. It makes you feel stupid that you didn't know better. The investigation of Dr. Pernia doesn't end with the sheriff's department. These women have also filed formal complaints with the Medical Board of California. The Medical Board is now investigating their claims as well as those of a dozen other women. So Inside Edition caught up with Dr. Pernia right after he posted $25,000 bail to ask about the complaints against him. I think all these people are blackmailing me, they're demanding money. I refuse to give them money, so that's an allegation against me. According to a published report, Dr. Pernia said Debbie, Karen, and April did not follow his advice and failed to take medication he prescribed, and he denies any wrongdoing. Some of my patients I've seen previously, they came back and said, oh, we don't care. We know you're innocent. So I don't think the public believes what we hear on the news or other sources. As for Karen and April's claims that he ate pizza during surgery, Dr. Pernia told me in a phone interview that was just not true. In response to the serious allegations of sexual misconduct involving his patients, Dr. Pernia stands firm. As far as I know, it's false. It's not true. Finally, Karen says she relied on this 1996 Yellow Pages ad in selecting Dr. Pernia. The ad claims that he is board certified and a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. Dr. Pernia is board certified as an ear, nose, and throat doctor, but when Inside Edition contacted five certifying organizations for plastic and cosmetic surgery, none had any record of Dr. Pernia being board certified in plastic or cosmetic surgery. As a part of being a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, you can do this kind of surgery if you are trained how to do it. Which he says he is. However, we called the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. They said they do not board certified and that Dr. Pernia has not been a member since 1994. After 1996, the doctor removed the Academy's name from his Yellow Pages ad. I trusted him and I went to him and you hope that a doctor is what he says he is and when he's not, he should pay for it. April says she still needs more surgery. Karen had to see another doctor to fix her tummy tuck and Debbie says she is going into therapy. They all agree. Don't simply rely on the Yellow Pages in selecting a doctor. What do you want to say to other people out there? Just really make sure that you check out your doctor before you have anything done so things like this won't happen to you. You won't be a victim. And if you've got questions about a doctor, a good place for answers is to check the credentials with your state's medical board. Still to come on Inside Edition. A different kind of sex discrimination suit is now making its way through the legal system. A New Jersey pediatrician is suing her former hospital, which she claims fired her because of her sex change. Steve Gandel reports. There's only one page. You're looking at a respected New Jersey pediatrician named Carlos Enriquez. Born these days as Dr. Carla Enriquez. A few years ago, Dr. Enriquez took the bravest steps of his life. The steps it took to become the woman who'd been crying to get out for half a century. I was in drag for 50 years of my life. I couldn't wait to get home to rip those clothes off. They expressed something that I wasn't. Imagine living a lie for your entire life, and you'll have some idea of the pain young Carlos endured each and every day. At home, he would sneak into his mother's closet and wear her clothes. But to the outside world, he put on a false front to seem like one of the guys. The more I was a woman, the more I tried to do guy stuff. Guy stuff, like a disastrous early marriage, although it did produce three children now grown. Meanwhile, Carlos had become a successful pediatrician who specialized in kids with emotional problems. After his first marriage broke up, he met Monica, and for the first time, Carlos shared the secrets he'd always kept hidden. There was not one bit of a feeling or transmission of any kind of emotion that I got from Monica that was negative. So it was the first time that I could express this without shame. Carlos and Monica were married in 1980. They lived as man and wife and raised four more daughters. Carlos found some happiness and a sense of stability. But deep inside, he knew his life was a sham. I was with a person who was suffering, and it was very obvious that this person was struggling horribly. Now, it was time for her to come out and be herself. With support like that, Carlos was able to become Carla. She wrote letters to her patients and their families, explaining her lifelong struggle. She also met with the owners of the medical clinic she'd run as Carlos since 1995. They had their own bombshell of an announcement to make. They canceled all my patients and said, well, we have a meeting now. I went to the meeting. I was handed a letter to say your services are no longer required. In fact, don't bother coming back. Now, Carla is suing the West Jersey health system, claiming she was fired because of her sex change operation. Financially speaking, Carla is struggling to build a private practice. A lot of marriages suffer under that kind of strain, but not this one. They've been together for nearly two decades. And during those years, Carlos struggled with gender identity. Monica realized she was gay. Adoring the person rather than the experience is what defines marriage. So we are, in fact, not unique. We are, in fact, an example of what marriage should be. You might agree with that assessment. You might not. But no one can argue with the fact that Dr. Enriquez has found the prescription for personal happiness, and that's knowing who you are. We are human beings, all of us. We all have a certain uniqueness and wonder about us. We are who we are. And if we run from it, that's shameful. A representative from the West Jersey health system said that because the issues are in court and being discussed there, they will have no comment. Sharon Stone works tirelessly raising money to fight AIDS, but now the actress is raising a ruckus with some remarks she made about AIDS prevention. Stacy Sweet reports. I liked having sex with him. Sharon Stone's basic instinct is what made her a household name. That sexual tension she exudes on the screen is all part of her appeal, but now Stone is making an appeal to parents of sexually charged teenagers. I lost my virginity while still a teenager, and I would guess that most of you did too. Stone made her remarks at the United Nations on World AIDS Day. The 40-year-old actress chairs the research committee for the American Foundation for AIDS Research. We are not stronger than the power of sexuality. When I was a teenager and I was having sex in the backseat of a car, my parents wouldn't have thought this was a good thing, and I wouldn't have broken my parents' heart for anything in the world. She urged parents today to buy condoms for their teenagers. If you truly, truly love your children, you need to supply condoms in a place in your home, I mean put 200 condoms in a box in some place in the house where everybody isn't all the time so that your kids can take them. Stone's remarks drew outrage from the Catholic Church. I think that's absurd, and I think that's insulting to teenagers. I think teenagers can learn to control themselves. But the Creative Coalition, which encourages celebs to take on causes, sees Stone's speech differently. It's a great example of how celebrities are using the voices that they were given to impact the common good. Thank you. Still ahead today, Michael J. Fox, before he hit the big time.
