Ohio State in Illinois, Oregon, California, Virginia Clemson, and Oklahoma, Texas at the Cotton Bowl. But now, the latest in the Judge Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings. Let's go to ABC News and Carol Simpson. ABC News has been following the second day of extraordinary Senate hearings on Judge Clarence Thomas' nomination to the Supreme Court. Senators have been questioning Judge Thomas for more than five hours today about Professor Anita Hill's charges that he sexually harassed her. To bring you up to date, Republican Senator Arlen Spector suggested that Professor Hill may have perjured herself. Let's go right now to ABC's Jim Wooten, who's been following the hearings since they began. Jim? Well, Senator Spector focused on Ms. Hill's Friday morning testimony in which she denied that she'd ever been told by anyone that her confidential charges against Judge Thomas would force him to withdraw his nomination. Then Spector turned to her testimony yesterday afternoon in which she said, yes, something like that might have been suggested to her by a member of Senator Metzenbaum's staff. Metzenbaum is a Democrat who was opposed to Judge Thomas' nomination. Then Judge Thomas himself said, whoever told Ms. Hill that should be brought before the committee and answered to the American people. At which point, Senator Metzenbaum said he called for a Senate ethics investigation since his staff member was just trying to do his job. And Senator Thurman, who was equally irate, said he preferred an FBI investigation as the real one. That's about where it stands right now. Jim, is this enough to really shake her credibility? Well, that's what it's all about, Carol. Those who favor Judge Thomas' nomination to the court have been attempting all along to establish that she is not a credible witness, that what she says could not be true because A, Clarence Thomas is not the sort of fellow who would do or say those kinds of things and B, she is the sort of woman who would say and do those things that she has done here. Okay, thank you very much, Jim Wooten on Capitol Hill. That's the latest from the Senate hearings. We'll keep you updated as events warrant. I'm Carol Simpson in Washington. Good afternoon.
