Let's go to the other corner. Togetherness. A time to give thanks and forgive. We'll put a fist with a mouth on it, take it in a boxing ring. Thanksgiving 2001. It's different, alright. Brad Pitt exposed. Happy Thanksgiving everybody and welcome back to Hollywood. I'm Nancy O'Tell. Hi Nancy, hi folks. I'm Pat O'Brien. If you're a Brad Pitt fan, you're gonna be happy. He's got two huge fall movies, Ocean's Eleven and Spy Game. A tonight show appearance for the ages and tonight finally he joins his wife on Friends. Hi. Hey. Oh good, here you go. Rachel Green. Oh, oh that's right. Are you gonna be okay? Oh I'll be fine. It's just, God I hate her Ross, I hate her. The whole Friends experience was good for you? It was a laugh, it was such fun being on that show with those guys. That show makes me happy. Look at her standing there with those yams. My two greatest enemies Ross, Rachel Green and complex carbohydrates. What was it like to have that character and be sort of that... Well, I mean we got great baggage to mess with but I'm telling you just hanging out with those guys on that show was epic. Who would like some yams, Will? Oh you'd like that, wouldn't you? I'm sorry, what? I said it was typical. Typical of you, Rachel Green, Queen Rachel, does whatever she wants in the little Rachel land. The wait is over as Brad stops by the Mrs. Place of business tonight. But as I found out, Brad's Ocean's Eleven co-star George Clooney beat him to the punch long ago. Now you should be on Friends now. I did it. Apparently he has. First season. Clearly your investigative reporting has not uncovered some of my early telling. No, but I caught you on Facts of Life. Thanks. Hi. Hi. Rachel, the cute doctors are here. Okay, coming. Here we brought wine. Look at this, it's from the cellars of Ernest and Toba Borgnein. So... I just know when I did a gas shot. Do you have a problem with me? I don't know. Do I? Do I? Clearly one thing Brad doesn't have a problem with, comedy. Last night on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He proved just how far he'd go to get folks to see his new movie, Spy Game. Opening today at a theater near you. Would you like a hat? Hello? Yeah. Yeah, I got him covered. I'm doing the best I can! Basically it's a very complicated tale about spies. It deals with the struggle of man. Man behind enemy lines. I've been there. Haven't we both, buddy? Yeah. Haven't we both? Harry Potter's the devil! It's a complicated story about spies. Spy? It was spy. I don't want to take up too much time. I just want to tell you about a wonderful new movie opening today. It's called Spy Game. It's starring Bob Redford and myself. I'm kind of an up and comer. You're kind of cute, dude. Well, it's called Spy Game. You're a Jay Leno fan, aren't you? You bet. You dirty, dirty bird. Oh, he's great. Yes, he is. He's a sweetheart. And well-hung. Yeah, man. Sir, I would do anything to get you to see this movie. Oh! Spy Game opened yesterday while Ocean's Eleven comes to theaters December 7. Nancy, quickly to you. Well, I have a few staples on Thanksgiving. Turkey stuffing in the Macy's Parade. And on this Star-Sat holiday parade route, giving thanks takes on a whole new, more significant meaning. You look for the touchstones that say everything's okay. And I think the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is one of them. And so, you know, I'm really excited. Strike up the band, spin into clowns, and let the balloons fly high. The Today Show crew hosted the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, an annual two-and-a-half-mile march down Broadway. And this year, just call it patriotism on parade. As the city's heroes rode close, Lady Liberty held her head high. And in a solemn, subtle salute, two flag banners were carried to represent the Twin Towers. Harold Square becomes a hall of heroes as two monumental, star-spangled banners are carried. And Giuliani marched right behind the two flags. As for security, it remained on high alert. Backpacks were searched at the grandstand area, and around 1,700 police were on patrol. I see a lot of Navy blue, and I'm glad to hear. I think everybody feels secure. They feel safe. They feel good about what's going to be going down Central Park West and then down Broadway. It's Clipper, the big red dog. Making their way down Broadway were 28 balloons, including first-time flyers Nickelodeon's Jimmy Neutron and Pokemon's Pikachu. 21 clown groups and 14 dancing groups also took part. And on this street corner is Celebrity Row. It's here that the parade's star guests are dropped off by limos. And then they wait in these buses until float time. As for a boys' demand, come showtime, it's all about the wave. You know what I'm saying, like maybe one of these, a little point, a peace sign. On this Thanksgiving, Hollywood gives a special thank you to our troops by sending a big film overseas, hand-delivered by the stars. In the middle of the meeting, I turned to George Clooney and Steven Silver, and I said, you know, I got a great idea if I could pull this off. I said, instead of doing a premiere, why don't we go see our troops? George Clooney and Ocean's Eleven director Steven Soderbergh loved producer Jerry Weintraub's idea for the film's cast to visit the troops in the Middle East. And so a very special holiday gift was put into motion. George Clooney and Steven just jumped at it. Jerry then called his old friend, former president George Bush, who has some connections in high places. I told him, I said, I think that would be the greatest Christmas present you could give the troops. So here's the plan. Right after the Ocean's Eleven Hollywood premiere on December 5th, Clooney, along with Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Andy Garcia, Don Cheadle, and hopefully Julia Roberts, who has to clear a prior commitment, will board a plane for an undisclosed base in Turkey. We're going to go out and live with them and eat with them and wish them a Merry Christmas and sign as many autographs as we can sign and take as many pictures as we can take and try to put a smile on their face. It's a good one. The music charts are out. A pop princess is bubble is popped. A sexy newcomer makes quite a splash and a country king regains his crown. Move over, pop. It's time for a little country. How do I love. Well, let me see Garth Brooks is back in a big way dethroning the reigning queen of pop Britney Spears, debuting at number one with Scarecrow selling over 450,000 copies that nearly doubles the numbers from Garth's previous CD back in 1999, with the release of the life of Chris Gaines, his alter ego, which sold 262,000 copies the first week. Still, the numbers are less than expected. Garth's biggest debut came in 1998 when his double live album posted first week totals over 1 million. Despite the premiere of her highly hyped HBO special, Britney gets bumped to number two with her self titled CD adding another 300,000 plus to its total, pushing the pop diva over the platinum mark in just two weeks. Latin rock goddess Shakira debuts at number three with the release of her first English language CD laundry service, telling just over 200,000 copies. Also cracking the top 10 Madonna debuts at number seven this week with the release of her greatest hits volume to CD. Radio hard rocker Rob Zombie comes in at number eight with his third solo album, The Sinister Urge. And Alaskan song Virgil debuts at number nine with their latest CD This Way. Alaskan's new album Driving Rain, despite rave reviews, fell short of expectations, debuting at number 26. Paul's teaming up with MicrosoftWindowsMedia.com offering a download of his new single Freedom, the proceeds benefiting disaster relief funds. What inside the private life of a music legend at home with Mick Jagger and Matt Lauer on tough times at the Today Show and how the competition is narrowing the gap. Well, that travel takes us tall on the ratings as we fire up the scoreboard. TV viewing was down across the board last night as people got away from Thanksgiving, but that didn't stop NBC, the West Wing, with close to 17 million viewers and Law and Order with about 18 million viewers from dominating the night. Elsewhere, week two of the Bernie Mac show on Fox was down a bit from its stellar first week. But there's good news for Bernie Mac today. Fox has signed him up to host the 2001 Billboard Music Awards December 4th from Las Vegas. Access Hollywood brought to you by America Online, new version 7.0. Call 1-800-4-ONLINE to sign up today. That is part of tonight's TV special, a rear look inside the private life of a rock and roll legend as ABC goes home with Mick Jagger. Where is Gabriel, the little boy? It's Mick, the family man. Letting down his guard, the fiercely private star gives cameras unprecedented access to his home life. And he shows that sometimes even a rock legend has to administer a little discipline. The one hour documentary follows a year in Mick's extraordinary life from intimate moments with longtime companion Jerry Hall to recording sessions with his two daughters to candy conversations with YouTube frontman Bono. How did you and Vicky in that period write some of the lyrics? I don't know. I just seemed to write them instantly. Quite often I didn't really write the lyrics until the morning of the recording session. Whether collaborating with Lenny Kravitz at Lenny's Folatio Miami home or writing at the MTV Awards and then immediately leaving out the back door. Thank you. I think I'm going to go now. The GMA is kind of creeping up. I think that there's an ebb and a flow in the mornings. I don't know whether we're in an ebb or a flow right now but perhaps people are missing the smile. And so we're going to we're going to get back to that. How much it means to you to look back here and see all these golfers. The smile was back this weekend in Florida at the annual J. Robert Lauer Golf Tournament honoring Matt's father who passed away four years ago. Not only does it mean a lot to me it's surprising we started this four years ago and there were I thought there'd be like four people here going OK here's five dollars. Lauer says the event now raises about three hundred and fifty thousand dollars for the hospice of Palm Beach County which made Matt's dad's final weeks of life as comfortable as possible and now has a center named after him. It means a lot to me. It really does. I you know every time I hear you know that someone else has been through that unit and they and they mentioned my dad's name. It honors him in the way he should be honored. And I can tell you from being down there that the smile on the faces of those hospice folks would make Matt's father very proud of his son. Now switching gears to music and abandon has 10 million reasons to be thankful on this day Creed that's how many CDs their last album sold and with a new album flying off store shelves it is certifying this band as being one of the biggest rock acts in the world. Their first two albums sold more than 15 million copies and spawned six hard rock and hit single. They have won four billboard awards Wadham on Saturday Night Live and action and starred in their own making the video on MTV. And now insiders say Creed is on pace to do what just six other acts have done since they began counting 10 years ago. So a million copies of their new album weathered in the first week alone. Our fans are just so diehard and appreciate him so much for that so I know they're just sitting at home and I'm calm. You know the radio stations you know like every hour play Creed play Creed recorded over the summer in the band's home state of Florida the album's rise is powered by the inspirational single my sacrifice, which seems to strike a chord in the wake of the terrorist attacks, much to the band's surprise. It's the first I've heard of that song. People making references or using that song to a couple lines like about when things can change in an instant. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's just just just more coincidences it's kind of weird. The song my sacrifice as well as all the songs on the album were actually written before September 11 after a whirlwind tour and dizzying rise to fame. Two years on tour and saw so much of the world, how that change your perspective on on how your music was going to be this time because it is seems to be a little bit more intense. There's no handbook on how to sell 20 million records and how you're supposed to act and what happens when you do it. So we we experienced a lot and we channeled that all in into the music. One of the things the trio did experience was fame's downside as Limp Bizkit leader Fred Durst and Creed frontman Scott Stapp engaged in a war of words. Last year, this is what Fred told Pat. You know, this guy worked out every day, obviously all day and he carries a mirror with him. I just, I guess, decided that he was going to pick on me and pick on pick on Creed. I tried to just turn it turn it into something positive. And I was like, hey, why don't we why don't we put our we put our fist where our mouse are and take it in a boxing ring and then give all the money to charity. Did you ever do it? Nine backed out. He don't want none of me, man. He's since he's since reneged all his statements because he said the September 11th situations had given him a new perspective on. It's cool, man. On life. And I got to respect that, you know, I mean, but until I get a phone call, I can't say that it's just all forgotten. Scott and Fred, happy Thanksgiving. We'd say that Creed's comments qualify as our quotes of the day. Coming up, Jay Leno's mystery guest. Introducing the best America online ever. New version 7.0. It's better, faster and easier.
