Two weeks ago, we stood here in Imperial Beach and told you about Jaime Guzman,
who shot at people stealing his car. The driver got away and a cop was seriously
wounded. We said Guzman should be prosecuted for shooting at the car. A lot
of you didn't like it. One person called to say what he should have done is kill
the guy. Another person wrote he agreed with Guzman. He took fate into his own
hands. And the shooting is still going on. This time here in La Jolla in a Mount
Soledad neighborhood. Francis Trimble fought his home was being burglarized. He
heard a noise, grabbed his gun, ran outdoors, and shot at a car driving away
from the house. A young man sitting in the back seat was hit in the back. He
wasn't alone in the car. Trimble might have hit another person in the car, his
own daughter. You see the noise Trimble heard was his daughter crawling through
a window of the house to get some things. Her father thought she was a burglar.
Channel 10 says this is another tragic case, but whether it's in La Jolla or
Imperial Beach, vigilantism is wrong and these people have to be prosecuted. We're
more convinced than ever. Maybe now some of you will be too. That's our opinion.
