...place to locate. Families made a decision to move into a neighborhood knowing that the Daytona racetrack was two or three blocks away. Now members of the task force said when they were in Daytona they walked up and down the streets, went door to door to talk to residents to find out just what they did think of the noise and the traffic. I missed most of the race because I left the grounds and talked to people in their neighborhoods. The noise just really seemed to be a non-issue. All the task force members agreed the economic benefits are incredible. Even Peterson, whose house is located on one of the proposed sites, says if he has to move it will be worth it. If the deal can be worked out financially to where it will be okay with everyone, then the benefits to the community I think will outweigh that. In fact, things were so positive task force member Mae Harbor worried that they wouldn't be believed when they returned home. So she went to the security chief at the track to try to find some problems. There was absolutely nothing. He said every now and then you will have someone who gets excited when someone passes his car on the racetrack and they fall off the top of the RV. Carson says he's glad he made the trip. He's now looking forward to having a racetrack near his home. We're not going anywhere. Matter of fact, we welcome them with open arms. Leanna Joyce, News 5. Kansas City, Kansas Mayor Carol Marinovich says talks are going well with NASCAR officials. They hope to choose between the two proposed track sites in the near future. The title National Brain Freeze Champion may not seem prestigious, but it's reason enough for a local disc jockey to celebrate. 28-year-old Steven Shedd of radio station Z95 smoked 140 other disc jockeys in a series of offbeat games, including bungee basketball and keg barrel racing. The Brain Freeze Challenge was sponsored by Coke and the 7-Eleven. It raised money for needy kids in the Santa Monica, California area where the contest was held. The cold front that we've been advertising all week is here. Let me show you what it looks like outside. We have some showers mainly south of the city, south and west of the city. Right now, overcast skies have moved in, and probably the downtown area will not see any rain, but you're getting plenty of it just down to the south. Let me show you the contrast in temperature. We have dropped nearly 5 degrees in Kansas City just within the past hour. We are now down to 77, 76 in St. Joe, 84 in Butler, and still 83 degrees in Ottawa, and it's right here that we're starting to see those showers and thunderstorms develop. They started developing just around 5 o'clock. They're moving towards the southeast at about 15 miles per hour. They're dumping heavy rain and even have the potential of dropping some hail with that. Zooming in a little closer for you. Kansas City is off the map, just to the north. This white line is Interstate 70, and this is Interstate 35, and you can see the thunderstorms are pretty heavy right now near Ossowottomee and down towards Garnett. Moving towards the southeast, so they'll be approaching Pleasanton within the next hour and eventually down towards Fort Scott as they continue pushing southeast. All of that developing right along this front, which is easy to pick out on the National Satellite photograph. The front has stalled a little bit. It's still sinking to the south, but it will really pick up speed in the overnight hours, and by tomorrow morning, this front will be all the way down to the Gulf Coast, taking all of the rain with it. Canadian high pressure fills in, and we're looking at really nice weather for the next few days. Tonight scattered thunderstorms mainly south of the city, south and west. The temperature this evening, 78 degrees, but by tomorrow morning, when you're standing out at the bus stop or going to work, 59 degrees with the north breeze at 5 to 10. Then tomorrow, mostly sunny skies, the high tomorrow only 73 degrees, and we'll have a northeast breeze at about 5 to 10 miles per hour, occasionally picking up to 15. Still sunny on Thursday, 75 degrees. Just fabulous weather on Wednesday and Thursday. Not bad on Friday either, 77. 84 on Saturday, and 80 degrees on Sunday. As that warmth comes back to Kansas City, there's a slight chance that some rain could accompany it, but chance of rain right now, less than 20% over the weekend, so we'll leave that off the map for now. Oh, those temperatures look wonderful. Chamber of commerce weather. It's like this all the time in Kansas City. It sure is. If you're visiting for the first time, it's like this all the time. That's right. Forget that 95 degree sauna we just survived through. Thanks, Katie. Still ahead tonight, was John Elway the victim of a cheap shot or just a good play? You'll hear from the coach.
