Angela, thousands of LA's children have turned hands down to drugs. More than
7,000 elementary school children put their handprints on a huge red ribbon
which was tied around City Hall today. City officials and celebrities added
their prints to the 3,000 yards of ribbon which symbolizes the children's
pledge to just say no to drugs. This is symbolic of their commitment to just say
no to drugs. They by their message ask each and everyone in this community to
join them in this pledge in order that all may have a healthier life and a
better community. May the ribbon of children's hands be seen as life lived
in perfect harmonious unity. Children ready and willing to learn what a
beautiful life there is waiting for them not a black hole waiting to take them
underground never to see the light. The program was sponsored by Chabot's Project
Pride as part of National Drug Free America Week. At the end of the day the
ribbon will be given to the Los Angeles Children's Museum. They will send it to
children's museums nationwide and possibly internationally. A lot of young
people were talking about politics here in Southern California today. As Fred
Anderson reports they were trying to set an enthusiastic example at Universal
Studios. It's got all the excitement of a major political convention and more
than 2,000 children from 66 Southern California elementary schools are the
delegates. I am the convention chair kid. I now call this convention to order.

When asked what to do with convicted drug pushers 38% of the kids voted to
send them away to jail for life. And so what's happening here today is not fun
and games. These young people are learning to take part in discussing
serious issues of the day. Perhaps developing an interest that will continue

A tentative settlement has been reached in the Teamsters strike by Hollywood
drivers and technicians. That announcement was made this morning and
Teamsters could be back on the job by Monday. We've got a report from Rich
Rodriguez on the developments that led up to this morning's possible strike
settlement. The producers and Teamsters reached a tentative agreement at 720
last night but this morning neither side was wearing a smile when they faced the
press.
