What would have happened if presidential assassin Lee Harvey Oswald had lived? You still insist this is part of the cover? That we're making this whole thing up? I know somebody's trying to railroad me on this. We've got plenty enough evidence to prove you guilty as hell. You're telling me that a poor schlub who couldn't even hold the job was capable of meticulously planning a presidential assassination? There had to be more than one gun. I know we're going to nail that little creep. Lauren Green and Ben Guzzara star in The Trial of Lee Harvey Oswald. Tuesdays 3 o'clock million dollar movie here on 13. Jim Elton here now with sports to tell us how the Oilers just charged running by San Diego this afternoon. The difference very simply being instead of committing turnovers, they're over sports turnovers and that's the way they won the ball game today. You know, it's been a truly incredible NFL season. We had the strike, the replacement games and suddenly anything can happen. Two weeks ago you remember the Browns embarrassed the Oilers in the Dome. Now the Browns have lost two straight. The Oilers have a winning streak of one in a row and all of a sudden it's a scramble in AFC Central. Today in the Dome the order defense got aggressive again, the offense efficient and Bruce Geetson watched the good guys blast San Diego. On the Oilers first play from scrimmage, Mike Rozier went down with a shoulder injury. The same type injury that caused Warren Moon to throw an interception on the Oilers second play. Vince C. Glenn picking it off. Certainly not the best of starts in a must-win ball game, but that Oilers defense that had been embarrassed the last two weeks was about to turn things around. Keith Postic blitzed and creamed Dan Fouts. Robert Lyles picked up the loose ball and won a 55-yard foot race to take Warren Moon off the hook. It took a load off my mind, believe me. That's the thing we talked about all week was us trying to get a hit early. The defense wasn't done. Fouts to Wes Chandler. He fumbles and Jeff Donaldson recovered. That led to a field goal. Then early in the second quarter Moon, sticking to the short passes, marched Houston 80 yards. Alan Pinkett going the final fourth and the Chargers were in for a tough day. Well we knew we could do it all along, just a few people didn't have any faith in us. Moon marched the team again in the third quarter, 18 yards to earn his Givens to the one. Alonzo Highsmith picked up the blitz with a great block on that play and then led the way for Mike Rozier on the next one to make it 27-5. That's what I'm here for, the block. Block, catch, do whatever it takes to help the team win. That was plenty for the defense. They harassed Dan Fouts all day, forcing another fumble here on the last play of the third quarter. This is what we're supposed to do. We're supposed to come out with the big plays. Finally, after the last two weeks, the imposters in the uniforms the last couple of weeks didn't get the job done. Moon scored from the three on a great call. He could have thrown it or carried it in. He picked the safest route. That made it 33-11. The final was 33-18. The relieved Oilers are back in a tie for first. Well we got a great shot. I think we're taking one game at a time. They just really executed extremely well and offensively we did not execute well at all. We didn't play worth a damn. At the Dome, Bruce Eason, Eyewitness Sports. Yeah, I think that's summing it up. The good guys are tied for the top spot in AFC Central because the Browns are upset, literally and figuratively, by Indianapolis today, 9-7. In front of their home folks, the Browns' dog defense was tough, gave up just three Dean V. Asuchi field goals, but the Colts D was tough. The Browns' only touchdown came on the co-saur to Brian Brennan, third quarter pass. And then from the Colts' four, Browns snatched the feet from the jaws of victory. Ernest Beiner coughed it up. Colts recover. Colts win 9-7. But the Colts have been playing good football and for the moment they are alone atop AFC East. But nobody expected the Steelers to beat the Seahawks today, but they did. Frank Pollard scored on the first play of the fourth quarter. The Steelers had moved into a tie with the Oilers and Browns with a 13-9 win. Now we're tied up there for first and we have three games to go and we need to play some good ball. We have some good teams to play and we're going to have to pick it up. Okay, final three games for the three teams that are tied. Oilers have the best look at the schedule. They have two home games to finish up. The Browns, they start at home, but then they have to finish up on the road and the Raiders are playing better football. The Steelers are in San Diego next week and also they have two out of three games on the road. But next week is going to be tough for the Orders. The Saints guaranteed themselves their first ever playoff spot today with a 44-34 victory over Tampa Bay in the Superdome. Benny Testiverti made his first NFL start for the Bucks, threw an intercept, fumbled, set up two Saints TDs and the Saints led 28-10 at the half. They clinched a wild card spot, but they're within range of San Francisco and NFC West. Joe Montana completed 17 straight at one point today. Jerry Rice caught a TD pass right here making it 10 straight games. And the Niners stayed one game ahead of New Orleans 23-12 over Green Bay. NFC East is now a wrap. Washington beat St. Louis today so the skins are a lot. Jay Schrader threw for 235 yards, two touches. Take a look at this heave to Gary Cart. Skins beat the cards 34-17, four games better than Dallas with three to play. As for those Cowboys, General Manager Tech Schramm called today's 21-10 loss to Atlanta the low point of his career. Falcons threw a TD pass then when the Cowboys fumbled the kickoff they ran that home all in the span of 13 seconds. On the board, Raiders knocked off Buffalo today. AFC West now belongs to Denver with a victory over New England. Giants in overtime over Philadelphia. Bengals in overtime over Kansas City. Rams knock off Detroit and Minnesota's trying to do the same to Chicago when a game's still underway. And the strangest thing we saw today occurred in the Oilers football game. Oilers Robert Lyles and Curtis Adams of the Chargers got their face masks locked. Lyles finally had to take his helmet off so that the four boys could get off of the AstroTurf. The day's short is past, take a look at it. The Colts Jack Trudeau, he wants to stop the clock, throw it right in the ground Jack, that's it. Masters tennis tournament, the final tomorrow night, Lundell will go against Veylonder. Mixed team golf, Jane Crafter and Steve Jones are the winners and no trades today at the baseball winter meeting. Face masks locked? Yes, just like a couple of Rams except these were Oilers and Chargers. What was the turnout today at the Dome? I'm not sure, a little over 30 I believe. Let's not write them off yet though. No sir, we'll get the pom poms out. When we come back Ed Brandon joins us again with more on the weather picture for our area. And of course he'll have his seven day forecast, we all want to miss it. It's time for the seven day forecast presented by Texas Commerce Banks with over 100 years of strength, stability and service. We'll start with a look at Galveston radar. As we said, the heavy rainfall has now moved well to the east of us. It's out of the northwestern Gulf of Mexico over extreme southeast Texas and over southwestern Louisiana. What we thought at the beginning of the newscast might be rainfall between here and Columbus obviously appears to be false echoes because that area has now moved and it's down between here and Victoria. That's not really rainfall, it's a novelist propagation on the radar image. Let's take a look at high temperatures around Texas today. 64 was the high in Amarillo, 74 in Midloon, 64 in El Paso, the states high 89 at McAllen. It got to 70 on Galveston Island. Here's the way clouds moved across Texas from noon today until nine o'clock tonight. The thunderstorm activity moved through here fairly rapidly. As a matter of fact, it was moving most of the time at around 25 miles an hour. Right now, thunderstorm activity in this corner of our area south and southeasterly winds in advance of the frontal system, the frontal system slipping through the Houston area even as we speak and winds are shifting back to the west and northwest. Temperatures at nine o'clock tonight, 55 in Texarkana, 59 in Dallas, 66 in Austin, 67 in Corpus Christi in Brownsville, and 63 on Galveston Island. Here in Houston, our low temperature this morning was 65 degrees, high this afternoon 71, four hundredths of an inch of rain officially at Intercontinental Airport through four today. At ten o'clock, 58 degrees at Intercontinental, 61 here at KTRK, 60 at Hobby, barometer rising, winds northeasterly at six, and the relative humidity 93 percent. We'll have another front or two during the coming week. Our forecast for tomorrow indicates that low pressure area and frontal system continuing to move to the east out of our area, partly sunny skies behind it. It should be a fairly nice day tomorrow. The next weather system is crossing the Rockies during the day. On Tuesday, we'll see that frontal system in the western part of the state. It will help return our winds to a south and southeasterly direction fairly rapidly, so we should see partly sunny skies on Tuesday. By Wednesday, that front will move through the area. We will not have had so much moisture form in advance of the front that we face serious thunderstorm activity, but shower activity is possible. Partly sunny skies late Wednesday afternoon behind that front. On Thursday, still another front moving into the state. We'll have partly sunny skies most of the day, possibly clouds building up in the evening. By Friday, that front will move through our area, we'll have clouds and the possibility of showers as it moves through. On Saturday, the front should be well to the east of us. It looks like next weekend should shape up to be fairly nice. Sunny skies on Saturday and on Sunday. Sunny skies with another frontal system to the west of us. All of these are Pacific fronts that we're talking about moving through our area, not Arctic fronts that bring extremely cold air. Sunrise tomorrow morning in Houston, 704, set at 522 tomorrow afternoon. One week from today, the sun will rise at 708 and set at 523 and the forecast for the next three days, not so bad at all. Partly sunny skies, low 60 tonight, high 70 tomorrow, down to 50 tomorrow night up to 75 on Tuesday, 52 to 76 on Wednesday. There is officially a 70% chance of rain left tonight in Houston, but I don't think it's going to happen. Jim and Debbie, I know they're going to happen after this.
