Nonstop news. Your Weather Plus forecast. The sports headlines, all in the first 11 minutes. KNDU Local News, 11 at 11, right now. Many cell phones are down in our area. We'll tell you what one cell phone company had to say. And a stabbing near Prosser has deputies still on the lookout for one suspect. 11 at 11 starts now. Happening tonight. We've received many calls and emails into our newsroom about problems with area cell phone services. Good evening, I'm Patrick Nolan. And I'm Jay Jordan. Right now we know that there is a singular cell phone tower down and it's affecting incoming and outgoing cell phone calls. Technicians at Singular could not give the exact location of the tower or tell us all of the areas it affected, but did say it went down this evening around five and that it is under repair and should be fixed by tomorrow morning. Singular says that if you're having problems, you can call their customer service center from a landline and get an update to your phone, which should help the problem. We also received calls about charter phone and internet services being down. We called them and sat on hold for over four hours. I believe the phone's actually still on hold. We've yet to get an answer. And with the phone trouble, some people in Benton, Franklin and Walla Walla counties have been unable to reach local 911 centers. Benton County emergency officials say if you're having trouble getting through using 911, try these non-emergency numbers. In Benton County, you can call 628-0333. In Franklin County, it is 545-3510. In the Burbank area, it's 545-8441. And in Walla Walla County, the number is 527-1960. And we'll repeat that number later in the broadcast. Grandview Police responded to shots fired at this apartment complex at 1181 Grand Ridge Road. Officers say witnesses saw a car come into the parking lot. You should see that apartment complex here soon. There it is right there. They say a young man got out of the car, fired shots at the building with a handgun, and then drove off about three hours later. An officer spotted the vehicle on the 1100 block of West 3rd Street and arrested three males. One suspect, a 16-year-old male, has had prior gang involvement. The motive of this incident is still being investigated. And a man is dead after a construction accident at the Tri-Cities Airport. The Pasco Fire Department says that a trench collapsed at the airport, according to unconfirmed reports. The man was standing on the edge of the trench when he fell in and was buried alive when the dirt fell on him. In local news tonight, at least two men break into a home near Prosser and stab a 16-year-old several times. Benton County deputies say around midnight, the suspects broke into a home on Johnson Road near Prosser. The 16-year-old boy was taken to a nearby hospital and is now in stable condition. Police have two suspects in custody, but one more suspect is still at large. The two suspects were taken to the Benton County Juvenile Detention Center for first degree burglary and first degree assault. Police say the suspects are brothers and were arrested after the stabbing at a separate location. Police think the incident may be drug-related and are still investigating. A truck hits a motorcycle this afternoon in Walla Walla County. The sheriff's department said the collision occurred on Frog Hollow Road near Tushy. Walla Walla County firefighters would not release the cause of the accident, but they say no one was injured. With this weekend being the halfway point of the 60-day legislative session, Representative Mary Skinner took a break from Olympia to check in with residents from the 14th District. She hosted a town hall meeting in Union Gap today, where she spent nearly two hours hearing concerns from residents of the district. She also used the time to discuss public safety issues she felt the community needed to know about. And the public safety we've been looking at primarily has been the anti-gang, but there are other areas of public safety like this mapping for the schools so that the people who are the emergency responders know where to go. If there's a problem of any kind, whether it be fire, flooding, or intruders. Now that plan she was talking about has been approved and is being developed for all schools in the district. There were also officials there to talk about avalanche control and the new enhanced driver's license. If you are out shopping today, you might have been distracted by some pretty cool-looking electronics. Floor, Hanford, Safford, Letting Everyone Test Them as Part of the National Engineers Week Finale. Allison Cordova was there. Young and old couldn't help but stop by and check out some of the coolest electronic gadgets out there. And the best part was that you could do more than just look. This hands-on display served more than one purpose. This basically allows the families in the community with their children to come out and look at all of the elements of engineering. Then we say, you know, you should stay in school, take your math and science, and then you have the opportunity to do these kinds of things in your life when you go to college. The dancing robots were among some of the crowd's favorites, but so was the robotic elbow. All you had to do was control the remote to get the candy out of the bowl, but it's easier said than done. It's really cool, but it's kind of hard to get everything. It's a little hard. There was also something for the video game fans. Bechtel engineers have designed a video game that takes you inside the vid plant. It teaches them about the more scientific processes while still being fun. Those who got a chance to play seemed pleased. It tells you what they're going to do with the nuclear waste, turn it into glass. How long have you guys been sitting here playing the game? About an hour and a half. Floor staff say they do it for the kids, but they're having some fun of their own. They like to have me do that because my hair is long and the static electricity makes it stick up in the air. And so I'm the demonstration for static electricity. Reporting in Kennewick, Allison Cordova, KNDU Local News. The Mid-Columbia Sustainable Business Network held a meeting today and toured Oasis School in Richland, a local green business. The main objective of today's meeting was to teach and inform local businesses on how to operate and be environmentally friendly. The group's goal is to share information and advance environmentally and socially responsible business practices in the Mid-Columbia. Businesses are here to provide a service to society and to the communities. And so I think what they're trying to do is look at the way they do business strategically and say we need to have a more positive impact on the environment and on the communities where we're working. On Thursday they will be meeting again at the Holiday Inn Express in Pasco to showcase local environmental education and sustainability in action. Hundreds of kids went down to Yakima Valley Community College for a free dental exam today. Thirty-six students of the Dental Hygiene Program applied over a hundred sealants to kids ages 6 to 21. Six dentists volunteered their time to perform the dental exams. This is the 16th year the college has been hosting the sealant day. It originally started to give students a chance to get experience performing services on real patients. I think it's wonderful to see so many people from our community, the hygienists and dentists here volunteering for this kind of service for the community. Each patient received a dental exam, fluoride treatment, and when needed sealants. The services are always available at YVCC and they offer them at a much cheaper price than most dentists they say. They're always looking for more patients. New information, a group of students at Davis High School spent the day helping make Yakima a greener community. The leadership class at Davis High School performs a community service project each trimester and they planned a recycle-a-thon this trimester. Leaders say 60 to 70 percent of garbage is recyclable but only 10 percent is actually recycled. Students have been planning this since December and they had a huge turnout today. We've actually seen a lot of people that have brought a lot of stuff like our expectations weren't that high and with the help of the community you know because we advertised it a lot we went out there and people actually listened. The class estimates at least 100 people came to drop off their recyclables. They say they would like to see more things like this in the future. Within the Northwest tonight an organ man is out on bail after police say he tried to extort thousands of dollars for NBA player Terrell Brandon and former NFL player Anthony Newman. He also threatened to kill their families if he wasn't paid. And an organ man has been arrested for allegedly impersonating a firefighter and paramedic. Authorities believe the man Michael Selmer as you see here in this video would listen to police scanners and respond to emergency calls. Selmer says he was serving as a volunteer. He was arrested for driving a stolen pickup truck which was equipped with red and blue lights. Police also say he collected emergency equipment and supplies and sold stolen property online. Across America tonight Hillary Clinton is blasting Barack Obama accusing him of knowingly sending out false misleading campaign mailers. Following a rally at Cincinnati Technical College Senator Clinton met with reporters showing them the mailers that she says deliberately distort her health care plan and views on trade. On the other side Senator Obama toured the Ohio State University Medical Center today to talk with providers about medical care. Obama also responded to Clinton's attack by saying that the papers told the truth on Clinton's views. Well just a couple months after the tragedy at the San Francisco Zoo a tiger escapes from its cage in Honolulu but this time it is quickly caught without incident. Officials said the 245 pound Sumatran tiger got out of its cage after zookeepers forgot to lock two gates. And across the world tonight Iran's president warned of decisive counteraction against any country that imposed additional sanctions against Iran. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad spoke a day after the UN's nuclear watchdog agencies released its latest report on Iran's nuclear program. Ahmadinejad said the report vindicated Iran and that Iran's not kidding about a counteraction. This US is asking for more sanctions. Turkish troops continue today with their major ground insurgent into northern Iraq. The Turkish military has killed about 44 Kurdish rebels since the insurgent began earlier this week. Local television reports that there are about 2,000 Turkish troops currently operating inside Iraq. And Colombian guerrillas announced today that they will release another hostage who has been held for six years. A news agency website quoted Ivan Marquez of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia or FARCE for saying four Colombian politicians will be released. He said FARCE holds more than 40 hostages including three US defense contractors. We're talking to Jeff. He says tomorrow we might see a spattering of rain. I know and I heard that we may even have some air stagnation. You've got to watch out for that. Yeah. Jeff Womack is now here with your weather plus forecast. Patrick Jade, it is just spattering away around the Yakima Valley and here in the Tri-Cities. It's awful quiet. We do have some clouds moving in. What is this little convection activity? How that works is there's some cold air coming in, some moist air, you know, like what happens a lot of times in the Gulf. We're getting it from the Pacific. Pretty good. Bunch of juice. We've actually got a little strength with this system they're worrying about for the Oscars. We're on the top edge of that and that's bringing some widespread rain here in the Yakima Valley. Now we get our shot into about midday tomorrow through afternoon with some isolated rain going through to the south of us tonight. In fact, with the cloud cover here in the Tri-Cities only looking at about 49 for the high temperature tomorrow. We'll take a look at the rest of the week. Oh, the temperature is looking a lot better right now. Jen, those got our first look at sports. Lots of basketball. Hey, that's right, Jeff. A leadoff spot tonight. 1B State Finals tonight at the Sun Dome. Sunnyside Christian boys looking for their second straight title. They had a solid lead in the fourth quarter but squandered it to Tico. The game goes into overtime. That man right there, Joel Koopmans named the unanimous MVP. Now, here's Jeff Womack with your weather plus forecast. Hi guys, welcome back here and you did see a little bit of rain going on. That wasn't, you know, it's just been so long here around the Yakima Valley. Well, what it is, is that wave coming through pretty quickly and all that heat we had from the daytime. That's just enough to kind of burst out some convection around our way, a little bit around Pendleton. Look at how it just misses us this time around. Won't do that tomorrow though or even parts of tonight as we get through the rest of this. Now, this isn't the real thing that I was talking about. Well, it is real rain, but not really the thing I was talking about. Six o'clock shall we say. This is just kind of the appetizer before the big deal. And this is going to bust us out around here as we backpack the radar for you. Going to help with this. Is there a stagnation? Get over it already. It looks like it's going to be with us now into Monday, noon time. We're going to call for showers in the morning still again, mixing in with a little bit of snow there as we go down to 32 overnight tonight. 29 overnight low here in the Yakima Valley. Continuing rain. You get that all the way until we go about on the back edge of lunchtime. We get to 40 degrees and we clear out after that. And it's back to the stale air, but also back to the 50s. So there you are. Take that. We'll kind of take both there. So looking for a little bit of snow. In fact, the blues now and even the foothills around Walla Walla right through here as the system comes in, it's going to lower our snow level back down to about 2000 feet. Backing out right now. You can see this thing overpowering Oregon. That thing being the culprit of the storm right through here. It's got a little warm front out ahead of it. Right there we go. That's what I wanted. And a little bit of breeze going on as well too at about 10 to 15 miles an hour. Let's put this into motion to you while you're slumbering tonight. Snow going on in the blues. Lewiston tomorrow afternoon. The adonis has been a little slow, I've got to say. So judging by this, probably early afternoon we get into the rain here. And again, just a few isolated showers around the Yakima Valley, more so around Prosser and into the Sunnyside area. 31 degrees overnight low tonight. Toppings should be at 50 tomorrow. Again, this isn't going to be an all day event for us here around Yakima. We get the mostly cloudy skies later into the day. 46 our high temperature around Ellensburg. All right, walla walla, here's how it works. 30 so a little bit of snow could drift by you. 28 degrees here in Moses Lake. We go down to 32 around Prosser, so a little bit cool. 49 is where we head to tomorrow. And then 49 here as well for the Tri-Cities. I don't think we're going to get to 50 after going to the upper 50s today. But we'll be back there right into midweek. Same deal here in Yakima. Above average by about 8 degrees by midweek, guys. All right, thanks, Jeff. You can't complain about above average. Definitely not. Not at all. All right, after the break, Jen Bates with your Saturday sports.
