Headline News, I'm Chuck Roberts. In Los Angeles, court is still in recess for another half hour. On the second day of O.J. Simpson's preliminary hearing, proceedings are scheduled to resume at 4.30 Eastern Time. Already, this day has provided some dramatic moments. The prosecution has been calling witnesses to set the scene on the night Simpson's ex-wife and her friend were murdered. A neighbor of Nicole Simpson's described finding a distressed dog near Simpson's condominium. He testified the dog's paws were covered in blood. After taking the dog home, he handed it over to another neighbor to take care of. That couple took the dog on a walk to try and settle it down. It was then the dog led them to a darkened alley. The dog was taken down from the left side of the road and was following the man on the other side. The man turned around and looked at the walkway. My husband is turning the same way and he's saying to me there's a body, dead body. And I'm looking and I'm turning around very fast again. And you saw it as well? Yeah. Did either of you walk up the path to where you saw the woman's body? No. Did the dog do that? No. I'm going to show you very briefly a photograph that's contained on People's 5 labeled B and I'd like for you to tell me if you could if this is a scene you saw that night with your husband. I don't remember it that way. What is different about this photograph that you remember? I feel it was closer on the other side of the gate and I could see her face. It's what I remember. This looks farther away to you? Yeah. But I didn't stand in it this way. I was more on the right side. You were standing off to an angle? Yeah. If this photograph was taken from a different position than you saw it would look different? Maybe. It's a change to the form of the question. You were not standing directly at the beginning of the path leading up to where you saw the woman? No. My husband and dog were standing there and I came like a little bit, I mean I came most near side and more behind, more to the right side. You were off to the right? Yeah. But other than that does this look like the scene that you saw? Yeah. Today's proceedings have also created a little bit of mystery. At one point the Judge Kathleen Kennedy Powell revealed a packet of some kind left to the courtroom. She returned to say she'd been given an envelope with some evidence in it. The envelope apparently came from the defense which then requested it remain sealed throughout the hearing. Judge Powell said she would open it later. The defense also turned over to the prosecution three micro-cassette audio tapes. Robert Shapiro says they contain two interviews.
