Music This is a Grundy Television production to the Nine Network Australia, Peter Smith speaking. Music Monday, America's number one comedy. Let's go for it. Stop it, psychiatrist. Monday at 8. Can't believe you fell for that. Right after Murphy Brown on Channel 9. Music Newsbreak, brought to you by National Mutual. Good evening, there's been a fire at Brighton High School. Fire units were called in after smoke was seen coming from an outside air conditioning unit, but luckily help arrived before the flames could spread indoors. Foreign Minister Gareth Evans is refusing to comment on reports that Australian hostage David Wilson is about to be freed in Cambodia. The Cambodian government claims that Wilson and two other Westerners will be released sometime tonight, but Senator Evans says he's received no confirmation and the situation is so delicate that anything he says could jeopardise their freedom. And still overseas, an 81-year-old woman in the United States is $4 million richer tonight after successfully suing McDonald's. She suffered third degree burns after a takeaway cup of coffee spilled in her lap. Now here's Barry. Thanks Georgina. Well there's a moderate risk of frost for all of the concerned areas. Tomorrow for Adelaide mainly fine, light winds, top of 15 degrees, beautiful sunny day on Sunday with a light northeasterly and a shower or two developing on Monday. That's all for now. See you right after Burke's backyard. Music Music Music Music Music Well there's some great stuff. We'll look at some superb gardens designed by Philip O'Malley and they use all those adventurous colours like orange and red. They're fabulous. Also, what to do with a clay soil, how to fix it. And we'll see what has to be the world's biggest backyard ship. We'll show you how to transplant trees and yes this is the perfect time of the year to do it. And tonight's celebrity gardener is Anthony Warlow. Music The superb arch neck, magnificent dished head and the tail held proudly aloft. Look at the action. This could only be the magnificent Arabian horse. Not only is this the oldest breed of horse in the world, it's also most likely the oldest breed of animal ever developed by man. They're reputed to be something like 3000 years old. And in many ways they are a living sculpture. No other creature has the magnificent movement and shape of the Arabian horse. And they are the subject of tonight's road test. Music Well I think the fine thing you're looking for in a finely chiseled Arab, first of all is they're curvaceous. And the hallmark of their avian is that beautiful head they have, the chiseled head, big kind eye, fine muzzle, flaring nostrils, and a really human like eye, a very intelligent eye on them. And then they have a curved neck, a really beautiful short strong back, and then slightly curving over the rump. Right, now I know that the Arab can do a lot of things, but who do you recommend them for? I'd recommend Arabian for anybody, really. They can be a ladies pleasure horse, they can be a men's, really horse that he wants to get out and do things on, they can be a child's painting, there's many fields they can be in. Music Arabs suffer from more individual diseases than perhaps any other breed, but fortunately most of these are very rare and are apparent in early life in most cases. They suffer from problems with the nervous system and the immune system, particularly CID or combined immunodeficiency. As far as the skin is concerned, they do suffer from melanomas, which is accumulation of melanin under the skin. In horses this is not nearly as serious as in people. They also suffer from Arab fading syndrome, which is loss of pigment from around the eyes and the muzzle. As far as the temperament is concerned, providing the handled well and educated well, they're a very good horse. Music Is he a good mate? Yeah, he's lovely. Well, he's my mate. What's it like to ride him? He's nice to ride, he's quiet. They can perform in all fields, right from Jodie with the little pony, right up to our best dressage horse we have, and our endurance horses too, which are really shine. There's no other breed like the one from Jodie. Music They're a bit like us really. They're never born grey, they're born any other colour, but as they get older, they get greyer and they eventually end up white. Music They're smart horse, and they learn very quickly. And are they people oriented as they claim to be? Yeah, they like people. They like to be around you and close to you. Hey, good boy, good boy, wow. Hey, hey, hey, hey, wow. Are there many black Arabs around? Very few, and very few good ones. We think he's possibly the best Arabian horse that we've ever bred. Confirmation he's correct. He has beautiful type, beautiful eyes. He has a wonderful disposition, although he is a colt. His coat and his mane and tail are absolutely perfect. He has good confirmation, his legs are perfectly straight, and he's going to be a wonderful breeding horse, and he's proven himself in the show ring in Australian Camps in last year. You can buy an Arab horse for around about $2,000, but if you want the real top of the range, have a look at this. This exquisite black creature is a little out of the reach of most people. His name is Simeon Sadiq, and he looks like being sold to America for around $1 million. Music Coming up next, using bright colors in the backyard. Music Friday night of the movies. A man tried to kill me. With this woman in your life, you're set for disaster. You believe in life after death. But with Chevy Chase and Dudley Moore on your side, you're in for the ride of your life. Academy Award winner Goldie Moore. Are you crazy? Together they'll have you floored. I used to think Bio-Z was expensive, but that was before I worked out the cost per wash. Because just one scoop does a full load of brilliantly clean washing. So you get 30 washes from this compact 1.5 kilo pack. Now that's double what you get from the same amount of ordinary powder, which means that Bio-Z actually gives you a low cost per wash. But don't take my word for it. Buy a pack of Bio-Z and see for yourself. All these simple delicious meals use lean pork cuts. From the 13 approved by the National Heart Foundation. New fashion pork, the other white meat. Well welcome back. Well it's that time of the year, the time of the year when azaleas are flowering. Now if you've got azaleas you will know that very often the flowers go rather horrible, sticky and brownish. And when they do that's a disease called petal blight. You might notice it here. And the dead flowers sort of adhere to the leaves. Now that was brought into Australia not that many years ago by somebody who illegally smuggled in some bits of azalea. And of course we've spent millions of dollars spraying ever since. What do you do about it? Well there's not much. No matter what you do you're still going to have the problem for the rest of your life. But you can spray with balaton every two weeks right through the entire flowering season. But there's another disease that causes that browning called botrytis or if you like grey mould. And it's hard to tell the difference between the two. So ideally if you're a real keen azalea fanatic you alternate spraying with balaton with one of these, either rovril or benlate. But both benlate and rovril are only available in big packs now. I think the smallest pack size is going to cost around $80. So it's a horrible problem. You can clean up the dead flowers and all that but look, bits then blow in from next door and you'll still get crook flowers. Please note there is a hideous disease called petal blight of camellias and it's just recently turned up in New Zealand. For God's sake don't bring in anything in the wire, plant material from New Zealand. Because if you do you could be the person to destroy Australia's camellias. If you're into azaleas by the way there's a brand new book out. It's called Growing Azaleas put out by Kangaroo Press written by Alan Evans and it is a beauty if you're an azalea grower. But now it's time for Margaret Bates and she's going to look at making terracotta pots look very old. When you bring home a new terracotta pot no matter where you put it, it always screams brand new. It can wait a couple of years, keep it damp and achieve the lived in look. But if you're a little more impatient than that there are a couple of alternatives. One simple method is to first thoroughly wet the pot and then rub in handfuls of potting mix. Damp potting mix does stick better. This is the most effective on pots with a raised pattern. For a different effect you can paint on some Porter's lime wash. It comes in a range of colours and after a couple of weeks outside develops that classy aged look. But a word of warning, it does dry quickly so when you paint slap it haphazardly around the pot to avoid any joining lines. Music And a little Porter's liming liquid dabbed onto the raised pattern can duplicate the look of minerals having leached out of an old pot. But probably the simplest and most bizarre way to take the gloss off a new pot is just with plain yoghurt. Yep, that's the stuff. Brush it on generously all over the pot then leave it on the ground in a damp place like the laundry or outside in the shade and allow nature to take its course. The yoghurt will turn the pot a nice mouldy green. And after a month it looks like it's been there for years. You can also use the yoghurt on other surfaces like reconstituted marble or cement. You can well argue that maybe there's only ever been about three or four gardens ever designed. That for the most part gardens are hardly adventurous places. And this is one of the classic challenges. What do you do if you're in Melbourne or even Adelaide and you've got lots of red brick to work with? Well the garden inside here was designed by Philip O'Malley, a garden designer and it really is very exciting and quite different. Now it's hard to know how you would describe a garden like this. I suppose the first word that springs to mind is sort of red orange. And the oranges and browns in here are probably the most out of fashion colours that you could ever pick for the modern garden. And yet look at this. It's an absolute symphony of colours. It works so well. And yet this is only one of the designs that Philip O'Malley has created. I do many different gardens and they all suit the clients and the space. I mean I built off the architecture really and that was what gave it that European feel to start with I think. This garden was a real challenge. There was some red brick everywhere. So these were just great red walls? Yeah well this was filled in with lattice actually, just an unpainted lattice. A little workshop window here. That's a workshop in there. So you put new windows in? Yeah we found them specially. Is this new? Yeah, new French doors. So obviously all the red brick was rendered then ochre washed. Which gives that really good depth of a garden. It's a very small garden. So you're saying that because it's so small originally with the red it made the walls almost moving forward? Red tiles, red walls, red roof. It just went on you know. And there was no contrast there at all. What I noticed with your standard plants, normally standard plants are gridded off and lined up absolutely geometrically. Yours are a little bit wonky. Not being symmetric I think works really well. But none of it's accidental. You've tinkered with those. I put them in like that yeah. I know from some of the photos we've seen and so on, through the year you're using really I suppose out of fashion annuals. Quite adventurous here. Yeah and I enjoy that actually by the way. But it's because of the ochre wash you can use any colour combination really against that. So in summer like this garden will have cosmos and zinnias and all that kind of gaudy mixed together works beautifully. Be adventurous with it I think is the way to go. I mean nothing will look good in my mind against a red brick wall. So with the ochre wash that softness in the back and you can have that in a pink or a white or you know there's many colours you can have or even in a pale brown. So what are you saying? I mean there's a lot of people that have red brick houses and red bricks themselves are a lovely element but they can be difficult to work with. What do you do if you've got a red brick? Well you could hedge it, you could cover it in a creeper, in a green creeper that's effective or you could render it, paint it, wash it but soften it in some way because it's not an effective background. So the lessons in a small area, because this would be what? Be lucky to be 30 feet, it's an L shape and 30 feet in both directions, a tiny tiny area. The lesson is use things in scale. And tier them, like this is a very tiered garden you know and so it's a busy garden with things that keep their shape all year. Music It's really quite curious, is it a rooftop or something? Yep, yeah it's on the third story of a building in St Kilda. Oh that's the lunar path? Yeah that's the lunar path which is a big part of St Kilda. So obviously with your gardens you really do try to marry whatever it is you're doing into whatever it is there and in the area. Where do you buy those divine pots? By Macdonalds. They are a great tribute to you, they're fantastic. Thanks yeah they take a long time actually. Do they? Yeah, just using you know some Mexican tiles or pool tiles or whatever and breaking them up. Music This is a difficult challenge, this garden. Why is that? It looks very simple. Well as you can see the fence is quite misshapen really and so we accentuated the axial element here and virtually there's three even beds but the middle one happens to be the path. And so that takes away from the awkwardness of the site. And basically at the moment it's orange and white but I suppose through the year you could change all the colours. That's the beauty of the annual beds there and you can put any colour you like in there. Also there's hollyhocks and delphiniums, all the perennials come up along the back here. And then again on the other side behind the azaleas there so you get that change within that framework. Music So I mean if you're going to sum up the challenge that I suppose your design work is throwing to people, what are the things that you'd like to see happen more and so on? Well to be more adventurous maybe with local or indigenous plants, to work with architecture and not to ignore it like a lot of people do. Do what you like, don't follow fashions. That's basically the main thing I believe in really. Music Coming up next, fixing clay soils and you'll see the biggest backyard boat of them all. Music There is fun being had. It's unpredictable, uncontrollable, imponderable and inexplicable with Carp Brooks, T-Ream and Luke Perry. Hey hey here on Channel 9. Music Sports Girl Fashion Director Paul Pelsus. Now I want to bring your attention to something that you probably have in your lawn. It's this stuff. It's a lovely looking ferny plant this time of the year, which is not unattractive in the lawn. It's bright green. But in fact it's bindiye. Now if you touch it now, no prickles, no problem. But in a few months time when the poor kids wander across it, they're going to be in agony. Now is the time to spray. Now what do you spray with? Well there's a couple of good sprays. One put out by Lanes or bindiye. Neither of those contains dicamera and that means that they're much safer to use around the trees. But do spray for bindiye. Now if you've got bindiye, it usually indicates that your soil is often a bit clayey and particularly compacted. But these sort of soils can be fixed and for those details, it's over to John Patrick. Clay soils are always difficult. They're heavy to work. They drain badly and in summer they set like concrete. Oxygen penetration is poor too so you often find you get not very good root development through the soil. But they hold nutrients well and that's always an advantage. You might want to know how you can tell if you've got a clay soil. Well if you pick a piece of the soil up, you can usually squeeze it like that into a long sausage or ribbon of soil rather than it breaking up a sandy soil too. One way of improving clay soil is to add organic material to it. This soil is getting a lot better. It's had household compost, pea straw, eucalyptus leaves, even dog food put through it. And of course the worms incorporate that into the soil and they create worm chambers as they move through the soil and that improves oxygenation and water penetration. And don't forget that the organic material you put on the soil as mulch is also incorporated into it and improves it over time. But there's another way of improving clay soils. That involves the use of gypsum or calcium sulfate. You can buy it at any garden centre or nursery quite cheaply. Apply it to the surface of your soil at around about 500 grams to a kilogram per square metre and you can do that over three or four years. Now it's not every soil that reacts to the use of gypsum and before you apply it it would be worthwhile carrying out a simple test. Take a jam jar with distilled water or rainwater in it and drop in a piece of clay soil. Leave it there for around about 24 hours and have a look and if that clay disperses into the water so you have a cloudy effect then the application of gypsum will be worthwhile. But you may well be saying to yourself it's fine putting these powders onto the soil, how do I know they work? Well let's have a look at a very simple experiment. Let's take two jam jars full of water and drop into them a couple of lumps of clay. Shake them about so that they disperse a bit. We can see that what we ended up with are some suspended particles in the water. Now to one of these I'm going to add a solution of alum which does exactly the same thing as gypsum but it works more quickly. We can't use it on the garden because in actual fact it would be toxic to many of our plants. What this will do is just like gypsum it'll make some of these clay particles flocculate or come together in much the way that sheep do as flocs. Fifteen minutes later we can see the difference. In this one we note that the clay particles are very dense. Whereas where we added alum you can see the chambers through here and it's those chambers that oxygen and water move through and that encourages plant growth in clay soils. Most people with clay soils tend to plant right from the start but I reckon there's a lot to be said for conditioning your soil for twelve months. I'd gypsum and organic material and then your plants will grow really well and healthily and in the long run you'll end up with a much better garden. Have you ever taken on a project around the house or the backyard? Maybe you've built a nice little table for the kitchen or a chair. You know it could take quite a while to get that project actually finished and some people really go out and they do a boat maybe ten feet long in the backyard. Well Bernie and Roz in Queensland have actually started to construct something in their yard which is well one of the largest structures I've ever seen. Most people I know think that I'm crazy and I know at times I act a little crazy. So Roz you're sort of the boss of this project. I don't think there's any bosses on the project. Well hang on who does all the welding? I do the welding. Does everyone think you're totally mad building something this big in the backyard? Some people say we're mad, some people say we're lucky but it's not luck. Some people say we have a big beddy. How big is this boat? It's just over twenty metres, just on twenty metres. So nearly seventy feet in the old measurements. Yeah. The two of you have just done all this yourselves? That's right, yeah, no one else. How long have you been working on this dream? Four years plus, the last two or three years been full time, you know on and off. Other time we may have had to work as well. That's an extraordinary amount of work for two people. And you are obviously not professional boat builders? No, no not professional boat builders but I still firmly believe if anyone can do it, if they really want to do it, if you want to do something you can do it. When is it due to be finished? End of the year. Which would be good. Really? So I need something like another six months to go. Yeah. What are you going to do with it? When we get the boat wet? Yeah. We're going to live on it. I think we're putting our feet up for about six weeks aren't we? Hopefully. If we can. I noticed you've got two dogs. Yeah. You got any other animals? A couple of sheep or a couple of goats? Two cats. Two camels, two elephants, two rhinos. No, no just a bit slow then wouldn't I? This is the back deck. You could just about have a game of tennis out here. It would be great wouldn't it to be able to have a game of tennis. I think we'd need a big net over the top though. I don't think I'd like to be swimming to the ball all the time. Yeah, some fairly good views too. What's in there? This will be the main dining area, lounge room and kitchen. This is certainly a millionaires toy isn't it? Well, we're not millionaires by any means. We just wanted something, knew this was the only way we could ever achieve it, is by having a go and doing it ourselves. Most people I know think that I'm crazy. I know at times I'm crazy. Coming up next, how to dig up and move that tree that's in the wrong spot. If that's my way, and you shouldn't know it. The International Barossa Music Festival, October 1st to 9th. Welcome back. Now I believe Luke, you have a complaint about last week's program. Um, yes, last week's program when you had the two-tailed lizard, I thought when you said that it was the strangest lizard in the world because it had two tails. Yeah, well I didn't think that was true because I've got a lizard with three tails. Three tails. This I've got to see it. It's in there, is it? Yep. I didn't think it was possible to get a lizard with three tails. My goodness, that's quite extraordinary. It's a skink. Yeah. It looks like the devil. What do you call it? Ah, Zelda. Zelda with three. That is truly extraordinary. Has it had the tails long? Four years. Four years, that's truly extraordinary. Alright, I was wrong. There is one with three tails. Australians don't eat many nuts apart from peanuts which aren't really nuts at all, they're legumes. And that's a pity because nuts are really good for you. They've got lots of protein and vitamins and minerals and even some fibre. The thing people are worried about is the fat. Well you don't need to worry about the fat in nuts. If we look at cashews or almonds or macadamia nuts, they have a kind of fat called mono-unsaturated fat. It's the same sort you get in olive oil and it's very good for you. It actually increases the protective kind of cholesterol that stops you getting heart disease. You know, vegetarians have much less heart disease than meat eaters, but even among vegetarians they've now found that the vegetarians who eat nuts about four times a week have only half as much heart disease as the ones who forget to eat nuts. Walnuts and pecans have more polyunsaturated fat, but that's good for you too when it comes in a nut. You know, one of these nuts is a native Australian product. Do you know which one it is? It's the macadamia nut. But you know, it's not the only Australian nut and in fact if you want an Australian nut that has almost no fat at all, we've got one of those for you too. It's the bunya nut. Well this is only a small bunya nut. They actually come much bigger than that. You can get them about seven or eight kilograms so you wouldn't want to be sitting under the tree when one fell on your head. They're wonderful just roasted, a bit like chestnuts. Or you can boil them or you can just chop them up and put them in vegetable dishes or sauces or use them as a snack food. Some people also grind them up and you can get a bunya nut flour. It's got a slightly mealy taste. My favourite way to have them is just roasted. Well I'm in Cumberland State Forest in a bunya nut plantation. These trees were planted more than 50 years ago. You know it takes about 25 years before they produce their nuts and that's why there's not too many commercial plantations. But if you'd like to plant a tree you can see they're wonderful trees. And if you eat plenty of nuts you might be around long enough to enjoy their fruits. It's inevitable if you've got a garden that sooner or later you're going to get some plants in the wrong spot. Now if the plant happens to be a little azalea or something then maybe it's not so much of a problem. But when it's a dirty great big tree then you have got real problems indeed. And the question is what do you do about it? Well you can move it. And this is the time of the year, the best time of the year. Are you alright there Mitch? This is the best time of the year to do it. Now this is a trident maple. Fabulous plant. But it is in the wrong spot. Now all the books say because we're going to cut off something like 95 to 98% of all the feeder roots, all the books and most of the old gardeners will tell you we need to prune the top back a heck of a lot. Modern research has shown that this is completely wrong. Not only doesn't it help but in fact pruning a lot of these branches off just makes things a lot worse for the tree. Now the question I suppose you've now got to decide is how big a root ball do you leave on the tree? Well it's largely determined by how much can you carry. Now I would think a root ball about 2 to 3 feet in diameter. And I did sharpen my spade. Remember a spade is a cutting implement. All cutting implements should have a sharp edge. Ooh, well there's the first root. When you're digging your hole most of the roots can be severed relatively easily with the spade. If you encounter any particularly woody ones obviously you'd chop them out either with an axe or a tomahawk. Don't use a saw in a gritty soil laden environment. It will destroy the teeth on the saw. Plants don't have tap roots despite what you read in the books. They just have fibrous roots mostly that spread out. But there will be the odd little root down there. Now the idea is you just gently rock it. Now as you rock it you'll see areas that don't move too much. Now when you see those nibble away at them. Now when you finally get to the point of loosening the root ball completely remember boys, no macho stuff. Just rock it nice and gently. Once the root ball is free it's simply a matter of slipping a piece of canvas or an old bag under the tree and with the help of a friend the plant can be moved to its new location. One, two, three. Before the tree is placed in the new hole it's a good idea to get a pair of secateurs and just even up the cuts on the major pieces of root because you will have chewed them rather badly with the spade. And in we go. Now how do you get the bag out? Well the same way as we got it in. Tilt it back, push it under as far as you can. Keeping hats out the hole. Then tilt it back the other way and hopefully the bag pulls out. You can leave that saw in. Now there's one really critical stage here and that is that you mustn't bury the roots. Now if you look at that you'll see how I've dug the hole so that the roots are sitting up three to four inches above the surrounding soil and that's quite critical. If you bury this deeply in the ground unfortunately it increases the chance of it dying quite considerably. Now how does that alignment look? Oh that's another point. Got to get it right and you've got to stand back. I'll join you. No don't look at me. What do you think? Not bad. You might note though if you look down at the root ball the root ball is now on a slope. In other words it's at a slightly different angle to how it was originally. Don't worry about that. It's absolutely critically important that you get the soil well in around the root ball. If you leave air pockets the tree will suffer significant damage. The best way to achieve that is push all the soil down as well as you can often with your hands. Then build a rim, a saucer-like rim of soil around it. Fill it up with water. Now a little trick, lots and lots and lots of water, but use the hose with no nozzle on it by the way to push the soil in and around the roots. And you can sit here playing mud pies well for an hour or two. It's good fun on that one. I'm enjoying this. Now it's going to need careful watering for the next couple of months really until it settles in. It will regrow a lot of roots this year until it gets a proportionate balance between the roots and the top. With all the work we've just been through you might wonder why you'd bother. Well this tree would cost between $300 and $500 at an advanced tree nursery. And shipping and transplanting it into the ground if you had it done for you might be another couple of hundred dollars. So it could have a value as much as around $800. It's certainly worth the effort. Hi I'm Anthony Wallerman, this is my wife Celia. Say hello Celia. Hello. What sort of bank has home loan centres open this weekend? And what's that mean to you? It means we can talk to someone about a home loan face to face this weekend. And we can do it together. See Adelaide Bank. Your sort of bank. Hi. Hi. I've got one of those at home. Well, my boy has. Really? Yeah. Yeah he has. Look. This has got integrated PCI ethernet and SCSI controller. Pentium processor. Secondary case. Yeah. Yeah. But it's a compact isn't it? Well yes. Yes it is. Yeah. Just like my boys. Ah. You don't want a compromise. You want a compact. Welcome back. Now this time of the year many plants are just sticks. For instance these are hydrangeas. Because hydrangeas basically come in pink or blue and they're the opposite of litmus paper. That is when the soil is acid they're blue. And when the soil is alkaline they're pink. So you can tinker with them. And although it's a bit late you could do something now. There is this substance that's called hydrangea blueing tonic. Apply this as per the instructions. And hopefully this year you should be able to turn your pink ones at least fairly bluish. Maybe over a couple of years you'll get them completely blue. If they're blue and you want them pink it's just a matter of adding some lime. The proverbial handful to the square yard. And again over a couple of years you will change the colour. Now it's time for tonight's celebrity gardener. I've got to be honest and say one of the most enjoyable and memorable moments of my life was when I went to see Phantom of the Opera and Anthony Wallow was singing. He has the most exquisite voice and for that matter also the most exquisite wife, Celia. He's a charming guy and you're just about to meet him. She was beautiful, beautiful to my eyes. Well this is it. What a magnificent view. Lovely isn't it? Ah that is wonderful. Quite blue and quite stunning. Yeah and the house has such a lovely feeling of place. It knows exactly where it is. Yeah I think so. The colours are perfect for where it is and it's, I've called it a chalet on the beach. If we had snow it would be perfect. Oh exactly right. Yeah no it's got an interesting mix of bits and pieces. And what you would get a moving pastiche of things out of it. Yes all the time. Nothing really ever stays the same here and particularly in winter when you have storms rolling in. And in the afternoons we have blue sea, pink sky and then back up to blue again. It's quite magnificent. We have some great memories in this room Anthony. Yes there's some terrific trophies here I suppose. You've done very well with the records. We have these two gold albums. But they actually went platinum didn't they? They have gone platinum since. This first album Centre Stage went platinum straight off so they didn't bother giving me the gold. And we've received an Ampex Golden Rim Award for that. I'm very proud of that. Particularly because that part of my career has really been a bonus apart from being on stage. And the recording career has taken off really well. It's a great room this was. Oh and of course this is what the most precious item in the whole room. My father in law said, I said should we get rid of those because I might get embarrassed about it. And he said only if you play you'll be embarrassed. Oh Miss Glorious. This is my pride and joy. This is a 1938 Wellitzer jukebox. It's the first of its kind to have the lights down the side. And apparently from what I've been told there are only two of them in Australia. What a beautiful thing. Does it work? It works. Take a token. And what do I want? Oh rum and Coca Cola the Andrews sisters. So what you've got to do is set this here. It's all very complicated. Push what is it number three? Put the coin in. Give it a little push. Oh is it meant to drop on the table? No it's not. I've got it out just in time. Here we go. Oh look at that. What a great look. I see them got the little tank. Well Glenn Miller I love. I love Glenn. I always loved Glenn Miller. I really did. Oh you've got the coin now. That's a good thing. Peter Sellers or something. Terrific really is. What a great idea. You've got a small area so turn the whole thing into a deck. Where you can have parties. It's terrific. We'll get to this table in a minute. But look who's here. Hello how are you? Hello Celia. Yes. Lovely to meet you. Be very careful with Celia. Is she not well? She's in the motherly way. Oh congratulations. Thank you very much. Isn't that wonderful? Isn't that lovely. Thank you. That's exciting. Another little production happening. What a great way to celebrate your new life and everything too. I think that is absolutely fabulous. New beginning. Now this table. Oh look it's wonderful. Is that dwarf or something? No no but it's just sort of a Japanesey feel. And it's so fantastic in summer. Is it comfy? It is. Come on. Well you haven't got much. How far along are you? About five months. Five months. Well you're not going to get in are you? It's a perfect height. Oh it is. And it's actually very comfortable. Trouble is getting the salt from the other end but that's okay. Funfights and other weekend. Are you almost in a little railway line along the middle or something like that? Someone has already suggested that. This is what a retractable... Yes it's a retractable sail. To keep him with the seaside feel of the property. But the great thing is here when you're sitting at this level, all you see is ocean through there which is great. It's stunningly designed. I mean you really can't do it any better than this. Don we've been watching the show for years. Everyone's had a shed. Yes. I'm very proud of our shed. You've got one? I've got a shed. You want to see my shed? I do. I do. I do. Come and see my shed. Get out of this thing first. It's actually as good as their flexibility as a year's tick by. Now come down here. Okay now. Celia come down here for the great unveiling. Show me the shed. I don't know. You got my... Oh this is fantastic. Huge for pygmies. Well what's... Well it's relatively... That sounds eccentric. Oh it's actually quite tidy. I just think it's the most wonderful living area. And when this grows up it will be absolutely superb. And this is a Chinese... Only to fly as they fly so high. Might there have been a relationship between that workload and the illness? Well I can't discount it. Maybe it had nothing to do with it. But I think that the stresses that the body goes through... When particularly when you're working so constantly... I mean our diet was always good and it always has been good. It was nothing to do with that. And strangely enough when we went to discuss the whole situation with the doctors... They asked me about diet. Did I smoke? Did I drink? I said no I don't. I told them what the diet was and they got angry because they said you know you're a perfect specimen. It's just not fair that this should happen to you. But it did and we went on with life. And you know I saw the light at the end of the tunnel. A few times I thought it might have been a train coming my way. So do you two work together now? We work together on the albums. And Sia is a marvellous foil for me and vice versa. We were sort of inseparable. We were. We really have been inseparable. It's been great. So the two of you will grow old gracefully together enjoying each other's company. I do hope so. It's a little great little...
