Turnout gear is the clothing used for protection during firefighting.
It consists of three layers that keep heat, cold, water, fire, or other debris away from the firefighter.
The outside layer is usually made from a fireproof material called Nomex.
Turnout boots protect the firefighter's feet from embers, nails, heat, water, and things encountered on a fire or rescue call.
