He caught the mug who did the forgery and the babe in charge of larceny. So the FBI they rewarded him because they like the guy who will stab a friend. There's a different man that's going round turning the joint upside down. There's a gentleman that's going round turning the joint upside down. If you want to squeal to the FBI we can make a deal make it worth your while. So he told it all and in return he got a credit card and a thunderbird. He got his bank and identity and a condo down in Miami. He bought a plane a boat and two o' rings but he couldn't buy any company. There's a gentleman that's going round turning the joint upside down. There's a gentleman that's going round turning the joint upside down. That band really knew the meaning of style. That's Still Pigeon from Kid Creole and the Coconuts. Actually I think my very favorite release from that band came out in 78 or 79. It's a rare single which was called There But For the Grace of God Go I and I'd really love to get a copy of it. Two current Australian releases now. The first recordings by each of these bands. The ones are a three-piece Melbourne band Brian Baker, Alan Fowler and Brian Robinson. They began recording songs in 1982 and sent their tapes to as many record companies as possible. The ones only worked live intermittently for their first couple of years together but more recently they've become a regular act working in the Melbourne and now the national pub circuit. Now a new device formed in January last year is the vehicle for songwriter Ashley Manning to enter the Perth battle of the bands. They came second, became frustrated with the Perth cover band scene and then they moved to Sydney three months ago. Their first single was produced by Eddie Rayner as Split Ends. It's called Good Times and this is what it sounds like. Oh Sometimes I feel down so I remember back to the times that I remember best They're here, they got hot, sometimes they go on for a while But they leave you out in the cold by yourself on your own Don't think about it, you say it's hard You can make a start again And then party on again with all of your friends And just remember that good times don't last forever Good times don't last, good times don't last, good times don't last forever Don't last forever Love's here, love's got hot, it's tough but life goes on again And you make it up again, and you're finding a friend So think about it, good times don't last forever Good times don't last, good times don't last, good times don't last forever Don't last forever Don't last forever Don't last forever Don't last forever Don't Don't Don't Every day when they say Every day when they say They go away They go away Don't believe It's time It's time You knew What time has gone Do you hear what you say That it's better done that way Than on any other day So say Good times don't last forever Good times don't last Good times don't last Good times don't last Good times don't last Forever Heart Keeps on beating Heart doesn't know Heart doesn't know Rain I see rain I know fear I know pain Rain I see rain All over the land And in the bay Heart Keeps on beating Heart doesn't know Heart doesn't know Heart Keeps on beating Heart doesn't know Heart doesn't know Heart doesn't know Eyes I see your eyes Everyone's a gem Behind their eyes Heart Keeps on beating Heart doesn't know Heart doesn't know Heart Keeps on beating Heart doesn't know Heart doesn't know Heart Yeah Heart Yeah Don't tell your mom Don't tell your dad Don't tell your mom Don't tell your dad Don't tell your dad Don't tell your dad Don't tell your dad Dont tell your dad Dont tell your dad Don't tell your dad Dont tell your dad Dont tell your dad Dont tell your dad Dont tell your dad Dont tell your dad Dont tell your dad The ones with their first single, Heart, which writer Brian Baker describes as an optimistic song about having the guts to keep on going despite overwhelming opposition. Gene Love's Jezebel features the voices of twins from Wales, Michael and Jay Ashton. They're a five-piece band whose line-up includes former Chelsea and Generation X guitarist James Stevenson. Gene Love's Jezebel formed in 1983 and quickly established themselves as a popular touring band. Their early singles, plus the two albums Promise and Immigrant, fared very well on the English independent charts. Their third album, Discover, came out in Britain in late 1985, however it's only just been released here and these two singles come from it. You're my guilty secret, not just a memory You're all I ever wanted, and you belong to me Listen now, my angel, my love for you can't stop Though we've come to distances, love must surely spark Maybe she just cannot see Maybe she just cannot feel They say I'm lyrical, lyrical, never hurt anyone How come I'm dying over you? If I'm lyrical, lyrical, never hurt anyone How come I'm dying over you? Your beauty has spoken with eyes that shine My resistance crumbles, I stumble, I fall Did I ever fail you? Did I lose your confidence? For me you are remarkable, what more can I say? Maybe she just cannot see Maybe she just cannot feel Lyrical, lyrical, never hurt anyone How come I'm dying over you? Some vintage Harry Nilsson now from the television special Just Called Nilsson. In the mid to late 60s, the emerging Harry Nilsson was dubbed one of the three Ns, along with Laura Niro and Randy Newman. He represented part of a trilogy of American singer-songwriters. His fourth album, Nilsson Sings Newman, paired two of these talents to the nth degree. Through his latter work with John Lennon and Ringo Starr, Nilsson came to be regarded as the Phantom 5th American Beatle. His first commercial success was a version of Everybody's Talkin', the theme song from Midnight Cowboy. Through the 70s, Nilsson's status as a recording artist was overshadowed by his reputation as John Lennon's drinking partner. Let's go back to the Nilsson of old for some classic live footage recorded in 1971. I spend the night in a chair thinking she'll be there but she never comes And then I wake up and wipe the sleep from my eyes And I rise to face another day without her Do do do, do do do do, do do do do It's just no good anymore when you walk through the door of an empty room And then you go inside and set a table for one It's no fun when you spend a day without her Do do do, do do do do, do do do do We burst a pretty balloon and took us to the moon It's such a beautiful thing but it's ended now And it sounds like a lie if I say I'd rather die Than live without her Do do do, do do do do, do do do do Love is a beautiful thing when it knows how to swing And it grooves like a clock but the hands on the clock Tell the lovers to part and it's breaking my heart To have to spend another day without her Do do do, do do do do, do do do do I spend the night in a chair thinking she'll be there But she never comes And then I wake up and wipe the sleep from my eyes And I rise to face another day without her Do do do, do do do do, do do do do Can't go on without her Do do do, do do do do, do do do do There's no song without her Do do do Got to get up, got to get out Got to get home before the morning comes What if I'm late? Got a big day Got to get home before the sun comes up Up and away Got a big day Sorry, can't stay I got to run, run, yeah Got to get home Pick up the phone Got to let the people know I'm gonna be late There was a time when we could dance until a quarter to ten We never thought it would end then We never thought it would end We used to carry on and drink and do the rock and roll We never thought we'd get older We never thought we'd grow cold But now Got to get up, got to get out Got to get home before the morning comes What if I'm late? Got a big day Got to get home before the sun comes up Up and away Got a big day Sorry, can't stay I got to run, run, yeah Got to get home Pick up the phone Got to let the people know I'm gonna be late Down by the sea She knew a sailor who had been to war She never even knew a sailor before She never even knew his name He'd come to town and he would pound it for a couple of days And then he'd sail across the bubbling waves Those were happier days But now Got to get up, got to get out Got to get home before the morning comes What if I'm late? Got a big day Got to get home before the sun comes up Up and away Got a big day Sorry, can't stay I got to run, run, yeah Got to get home Pick up the phone Got to let the people know I'm gonna be late Applause I want you to know that since you walked out on me I'm so lonesome every day I want you to know that since you walked out on me Nothing seems to fit the same old way Think about the love that burns within my heart for you The good times we had before you went away Walk back, back to me this minute to bring your love to me Don't send me lines so lonesome every day I want you to know that since you walked out on me I'm so lonesome every day I want you to know that since you walked out on me Nothing seems to fit the same old way Think about the love that burns within my heart for you The good times we had before you went away Walk back, back to me this minute to bring your love to me Don't send me lines so lonesome every day Music Come on baby let the good times roll Come on baby let it fill your soul yeah Come on baby let the good times roll Roll all night long Come on baby yes this is real Come on baby show me how you feel yeah Come on baby let the good times roll Roll all night long Feels so good now let you on Come on, come on, come on, come on Baby rock me all night Come on baby let the good times roll Come on baby let it fill your soul Come on baby let the good times roll Roll all night long Roll on, roll on Well it's a pretty wild concept for 1971 That's Nilsson letting the good times roll live Wrapping up tonight are a few songs from Madness In the late 70s they did more than any other band to popularise ska music in Australia Ska or Blue Beat which along with Rock Steady started in the West Indies in the early 60s It's almost a cross between that other form of Jamaican music reggae and American rhythm and blues The main audience for the British Ska revival 10 years ago was Mods or Rude Boys Dressed in baggy trousers with braces It was centred in the industrial midlands of England with the exception of Madness who came out of North London in 1978 The Ska Beat formed the basis for the lively dance music But Madness were not a pure Ska band Their forte was zaniness, catchy lyrics and a fun approach to what they called the nutty sound Madness have now ended but they left a mighty good selection of videos to remember them by I'll leave you with those and say good night It's just gone through now, past monsoon On the banks of the River Nile Here comes the boat, only half afloat Husband wins a toothless smile Only just one more to this desolate shore Last boat along the River Nile Doesn't seem to care, no more wind in his hair As he reaches his last half mile The horse leaps in his hair before he reaches dry land But the sound doesn't dampen his smile Just floats away sand with an oar in his hand Flows soft down the River Nile Flows soft down the River Nile Never, never, never Never, never Never, never Never, never, never Never, never, never Never, never, never Never, never, never Never, never, never Good morning, this Can I help you, son?
