My name is Willy Santos. I've been skating for about 13 years and I've been pro for about 6 years. Transworld Skateboarding Magazine asked me to help out and host a video featuring 20 intermediate street skating moves. If you're just getting started you may want to check out Transworld's Starting Point video with Jeremy Wray which covers the fundamental basics from safety equipment to how to ollie. To perform the tricks in this video you should feel comfortable on your skateboard and have the basics down pat. These tricks are meant to be learned at your own time and pace so let's start at the beginning and do some flat ground tricks. Kickflip shove it. Put your back foot slightly to the corner of the tail and put your front foot in the middle slightly angled toward the nose. You should be standing on the balls of your toes. Hit the tail like you're doing a pop shove it. Once you're in there flick your front foot like a kickflip. The board will do a full 180 with the kickflip. Catch the board griptape side up. Be sure not to shove it more than 180 degrees. Timing is important. 360 kickflip. You basically put your feet in the same position as you would for the kickflip shove it. Bend your knees, pop the tail and flick your front foot to the board 360 degrees with the kickflip at the same time. When it passes 270 try to catch the board griptape side up and go the rest of the way like a pop shove it. 180 kickflip. Start in the kickflip position. Bend your knees, pop the kickflip with your toes going back side. Turn your upper body with the shoulders and push forward. Catch the board griptape side up at about 90 degrees so it won't over flip. Level it out with your back foot and put your front foot back on. You should be half way around. Pull with your back foot using your toes to swing the tail all the way around. Be sure to complete the 180 and try not to dip your head in or the board will end up behind you. When you finish be ready to ride a way backward. Frontside 180 kickflip. Put your feet in the kickflip position, bend your knees, pop the tail and flick your front foot off the side of the nose. Turn your shoulders and arms opposite of the direction you want to go like a wind up. Push forward and catch the board griptape side up about 90 degrees so it won't over flip. Level it out with your back foot and put your front foot back on. You should be half way around. Pull with your back foot, guide the nose the rest of the way and push your back foot forward to help the tail around. Be sure to rotate 180 so you can roll the way backward. Backside 180 heel flip. Put your front foot in the middle of the board with your toes hanging off the side. Put your back foot on the tail with the ball of your foot in the corner. Bend your knees and stay balanced over your heels. Don't dip your head down or the board will end up behind you. Olly backside while dragging your front foot up toward the nose. Use your heels to flip the board. Lift your back foot up to give the board room to flip. The tail will be coming towards your back foot. Catch the board about 90 degrees so it won't over flip and level it out with your back foot. Put your front foot back on. You should be half way around. Pull with your back foot using your toes to swing the tail all the way around. Be sure you've done a full 180 and be ready to ride the way backward. Frontside 180 heel flip. Put your front foot in the middle of the board with your toes hanging off the side. Put your back foot on the tail with the ball of your foot on the corner. Bend your knees and olly frontside, dragging your front foot up the nose but more to the side of the board. Bring your back foot up to give the board more room to flip. Push forward and catch the board gripped tape side up. Level it out with both feet. Guide the nose the rest of the way and push your back foot forward to help the tail around. Be sure to rotate the 180 completely so you can roll the way backward. Olly impossible. You can practice this trick by stepping off the board with your front foot and allowing the board to rotate around your back foot. To do an olly impossible, place your front foot in the middle of the board with the heel hanging off the edge. Put the back foot on the tail with your toes hanging off slightly. Bend your knees, scoop the olly and wrap the board around your back foot. Move your front foot out of the way quickly so the board has room to rotate around your back foot. Finally, place your front foot back on the board and roll away. Getting off a curb will help you too. Backside 360 olly. Put your back foot on the corner of your tail and your front foot in the middle of the board with your heel slightly off the edge. This trick involves more of a scooped olly. Scooping an olly is the same as a regular olly but more of a scraping motion than a popping motion. Wind up scooped olly and turn your shoulders quickly. By the time you scooped olly you should be 180. Guide the board with your back foot. Your front foot should follow the rest of the way and be ready to land forward. Sometimes you'll land about 270. Just push the rest of the way by kick turning. Try to practice off a curb so you have more time to rotate 360. Frontside 360 olly. Place your front foot in the middle of the board with your toes hanging slightly off the edge and the back foot on the tail with the ball of your foot on the corner. Wind up going frontside. Bend your knees and olly. Be sure to olly high. Turn your shoulders quickly so you've completed the 180. Guide the board with your front foot and the back foot should follow. Be ready to land forward. You may land 270 a couple times but just push the rest of the way by kick turning. Getting off a curb will definitely help you with this trick.
