Today it's sweeping into cities and suburbs like a Texas dust storm. Hi, I'm John Hines, and welcome to Country Line Dancing. One of the most popular parts of country music is line dancing. And in this video, you'll learn all the most popular dances. Country line dancing is easy. It's the most fun dancing you'll ever do, and you don't even need a partner. While it's country dancing, you can wear anything from shorts to boots to skirts to jeans, of course you can go real cowboy with collar tips, big shiny belt buckles, bolo ties for men and women, boots in any style, color or material, bandanas, and of course cowboy hats. Meet Diane Horner. Diane's been teaching people to dance for years, and she makes it really easy. The first thing you should know is that almost any country line dance can be done to almost any country song. Once you learn a few basic steps and dances, you're ready to go. We start with the easiest dances first. This way, you can build on the steps you know. For each dance, we start with the steps or patterns you need to know. We cover each one separately and then go through the practice with you. Next, we put them together and practice the whole dance. This is done with the music at a slower, 96 beats per minute. We show you the individual steps or patterns from behind the instructor, just like in a dance class. This way, you and Diane are on the same foot, moving in the same direction all the time. It makes the transition to watching the full line like nothing happened. Next, we bring out a line of dancers and show you the whole dance at a more real pace. Don't worry, we'll show you everything many times over, including lots of close-ups so you can follow along. So, let's all learn some great country line dances. Hi, I'm Diane Horner. Country line dancing is great fun. By the end of this tape, you'll be able to get out on the floor and join in on the fun. Instead of trying to remember 40 different movements in sequence, you'll learn simple patterns that are used in all country line dances. You'll practice the step over and over until you can do it automatically. You'll know the name of the step so you can follow my cues. So, when we start the country line dance, you'll be putting together simple patterns that you already know. Dancing is easy. You either change the weight or you don't. There are only those two choices. When you change the weight, it's called a step. When you don't change the weight, it's called a touch. There are lots of variations to the touch. You can touch your toe, your heel, or you can not touch at all, and kick your foot and lift your knee. The important thing to remember on a touch is that you do not change your weight. On a step, you transfer the weight to the other foot, change the weight, and that way, the correct leg will always be ready to go. All right, let's start with our first country line dance. Electric slide. Let's start with the electric slide. It's one of the easiest country dances to learn. There are only three basic steps. The vine, the rock, and the kick. I'll be turning around so you'll be able to follow my feet. We'll practice the vine first. Right, left, right, left. The electric slide always starts moving to the right with the vine. Again. This is the vine. Moving back, doing the vine. Three steps and touch. Again, moving back. One more time, moving back. Now let's practice the rock. On the rock, you'll step your left foot forward. Step and touch, rock. Now let's try the kick. Starting with your left foot, step, kick, step, kick. Now you know the patterns, let's put the electric slide together. Starting to the right. Ready, step, three steps and touch. Moving back, three steps and touch. Rock and kick. Start it again. Vining, moving back, rock, kick, vine. Hopefully you've got it. Great, have you got it? I think we're ready for the line. Let's try the electric slide with the country line. Starting right, vine, three steps and touch. Moving back, three steps, touch it, rock. Forward, back, step, kick, vine. Moving back, forward, back, step, kick, vine. Take it back, rock and kick. One more time through the electric slide. We're going to rock and turn, quarter turn to the left. Vine, moving back, vine, rock, step and kick, vine. Back, rock, step kick, good. This time add some style. Kick it. And back, and rock, step and kick, vine. And back, rock and kick, vine, vine. Take it back, and rock, kick it. And back, rock, step kick, vine. And back, rock. Looking good. Keep going. There are lots of different movements you can add. You can add turning. You can add a tip of the hat like Steve is. You can add a few shoulders. Get down. The important thing is when you add, you're ready to go on with the line. Nice turn. Nice flap of the leather. Rock and kick. And that's the electric slide. Honky Tonk Stomp. Now we're ready for the Honky Tonk Stomp. There are four patterns in the Honky Tonk Stomp. One of the patterns you already know and it's the vine. We'll practice the fan, the double heel, and the double toe. And this one's a little tough. The heel step, stomp twice. Heel step, stomp twice. So I'll turn so that you'll be able to follow my feet. We'll practice each of the steps. Here's the fan, out and in. This is an easy one. Four more. Good. And the double heel to the front, double toe to the back. Ready, it's heel front twice, back twice. Weight is on your left leg. And finally, the tough one, the heel step, stomp stomp. You can do it. Ready, touch the heel, step the weight, stomp twice without changing the weight. Heel, step, stomp, stomp. Heel, step, stomp, stomp. Four more times. Each side does the move. Heel, step. Now that you know all the pieces, we're ready to put it together, the Honky Tonk Stomp. We'll start with the right foot, fan two. Two heels in front, two toes in back. Heel, step the weight, stomp twice. Heel and step, stomp twice. Vine, three steps. There it is. Turn to the front, half turn. Do the same thing again, facing the other way. Two fans, two heels, two toes. Heel, step, stomp twice. Vine to your right. Half turn, vine. Good, again, the pattern. Two fans, two heels, double. Two toes, one heel, step, stomp it twice. And vine. Half turn, vine. And bring it back. Great, now we're ready for the line. Here's the Honky Tonk Stomp. We'll start with two fans. Right leg, tap two. Front heel, toe, heel, step, stomp twice. And vine, right. Half turn to the back. Facing the back, fan twice. Two front, two back. Step and stomp. Vine, right. Turn, a half turn. Again, the pattern. Two fans, two heels in front, two toes in back. Two steps on twice. Vine. Half turn, kick it out. One more time, it's fan. Two heels in front. Heel, step, and stomp. Good, vine. Half turn, kick. Good. Now let's see, make it fancy. Vine. Turn. Facing the other way. Two fans, two heels in front, two toes in back. Heel, step, stomp, stomp. Vine to the front. Again. Heel, step, stomp, stomp. Vine to the back. Are we having fun yet? Fan, two front, two back. Heel, step, stomp it. And vine, right. Half turn. And that's the Honky Tonk Stomp. Slap leather. Now a country classic, the slap leather. You'll be slapping the inside and the outside of your boot. There are four new steps in the slap leather. You already know the vine, the heel step, and the double heel to the front and the back. So we'll practice the new steps. We'll practice the hitch. The hitch is simply lifting your knee. We'll be sliding, and that's four steps sliding together. We'll practice the swivel. Balls of the feet have the weight heels apart together, apart together. And we'll practice the star. Touching front, side, back, side. And it finishes with that slap leather. Are you ready? We'll practice. We'll start with the hitch. Taking three steps back, starting right. Walk three steps and hitch. Step forward and slide. Again, hitch. Hitch. So it's a vining motion back, hitch, and slide. Let's do that one more time. Good. That was the hitch and the slide. Next step is the swivel on the balls of your feet. Heels are going to go apart and together. Ready, apart, together. And we'll do this a lot so you get used to balancing on the balls of your feet. Got it? Good. Now on the star, you're going to be touching your toes. Four times. Let's try it. Weight is on the left. Touch front, side, back, and side. Do that again. Now you've got it. Let's try it. Double time. Here we go. Front, side, back, side. This is the star. Do one more and add the slap leather. Great. You've got all the pieces. Let's try the entire line dance with the slap leather. Line right. You already know this from the electric slide. Add the hitch and slide. Swivel. Two times. Now heel step. Each leg. Do that again. Heel step. Now double. Heel front, toe back, and star. Front, side, back, side, slap. Go again. Line. Like the electric slide. Slide together. All steps. Swivel. Two. Heel step. Each side. Double heel. Front, double toe back. Do the star. And slap. I think we're ready. It's slap leather time. Ready. Fine. Just like the electric slide. Here's the hitch. Slide it. Swivel. Two times. Heel step. Each leg. Double heel. Double toe. And here's that star. And the slap. Go again. Fine. Moving it back. Hitch. Slide. Swivel. Heel step. Double. Star. Fine. Take it back. Hitch and slide it. Swivel. Heel step. Double heel. Double toe. And star. We'll go one more time. Fine. Bring it back. Hitch it. Swivel. Heel step. Double. Star this time. Turn on the slap. Here we go. And bind. Back it up. Hitch. Slide. Swivel. Heel step. Double heel. Star. Turn it again. Fine. Back it up. Hitch. Slide. Swivel twice. Heel step. Do that again. Double. Star. And turn. Back it up. Hitch. Slide. Swivel. Heel step. Double heel. Star time. Fine. This time now. Add your own rules. Swivel. Heel step. Double. Star. And turn. Fine. Back it up. Hitch. Slide. Double. Heel step. Oh, I like it. Double. One more time. Swivel. Heel step. Double heel. Star. This is the slap leather. Tush push. Now for my favorite dance, the tush push. There are five new steps, but a couple of the steps aren't really new. The heel press. Each leg. And the swivel with both legs moving together. Then there's the hip bump. Double. And single. And the cha cha. And it finishes with a pivot, a step, and a stomp clap. We'll practice each of the steps individually. Let's start with the heel press. Switch. Swivel both heels. Swivel, clap, and bump. Single bump. Good. Now the cha cha. Right foot sliding three steps forward. Triple. Two steps. Switch direction. Triple. Switch. Triple. Step, step. Triple. Step, step. One more time. And then last but not least is that pivot step. And you'll be pivoting your right foot and doing one quarter turn and stomp and clap. We'll try the whole thing. Heel press. Right fore. Left fore. Both heels swivel. Clap and bump. There's the double. There's the single. Cha cha. Right foot. Do that again. And pivot. One quarter turn. Stomp clap. Heel press. Swivel. You'll get to see it from the side. Bump. Single bump. Cha cha. Two steps. Do that again. It's a triple step and two steps. Pivot, stomp, clap. Great. We're ready for the line for the tush push. Here it is. The tush push. Four heels. Swivel. Clap. Hip bump. Cha cha. There's the pivot. Stomp clap. Face the quarter turn. Heel. Swivel. Hip bump. Single hip. Slide. Pivot and stomp clap. Again. Four heels. Swivel. Hip bump. Single hip. Slide. If you like, pivot right here. Nice. Pivot again. Pivot. Stomp clap. Swivel. Hip bump. Four single hips. Take it around. Again, if you like, pivot here. 180 and pivot here. 180. 90 degree pivot. Heel press. Swivel. Bump. Four single bumps. Cha cha. Turn if you like. Pivot. Stomp clap. Let's do wild. Go ahead and pivot. Stomp clap. Four heels. Nice variation. Hip. Cha cha. This time I'm going to pivot with the line. Pivot, stomp clap. Hip. Cha cha. Pivot. Other way. Pivot. Another pivot. Stomp clap. Jazz it up. Swivel. Hip. Go around. Cha cha. Pivot. Other foot. Pivot. Pivot, stomp clap. Push it. Swivel. Hip. Cha cha. Pivot. Pivot, stomp clap. Jazz it up. Swivel back. Hip. Ooh, hot. And that's the tush push. Achy breaky. Now for the achy breaky. The achy breaky line dance uses variations to basic steps you already know. The vine. The stomp. The bump. The star. The pitch. The vine. The stomp. The bump. And the scuff. And the vine. You can see it's a complicated line dance, so we'll practice in four sections. We'll start with the vine and the bump. Moving right. Vine. Stomp. And bump. Again. Vine. Stomp. And bump. Vine. Stomp. Single. Single. Double bump. Last time. Good. The second section uses the star and the hitch. Using your right leg, touch three, step three times, and hitch your knee. It's three touches, three steps, and hitch. One more time. Good. The last, the third step is easy because we do the first step moving backwards. The right foot moves back. Here we go. Stomp it. Single. Single. Double. One more back. Stomp. Single. Single. Double. And finally, we'll do the scuff and the vine. Step right. Brush your heel and scuff and vine and stomp. Do you have it? We're ready to try the entire achy breaky. Here we go. Moving right. Vine. Stomp. Bump. Star. Stomp. Hitch. Backing up. Vine. Hitch. Step right and scuff, scuff, and vine. Stomp. How'd you do? That's the achy breaky. Are you ready for the line? Now for the achy breaky.
