Music Welcome to this week's Cult Movie. With the Hong Kong changeover happening next week, many are speculating on what will happen to their film industry. Already big directors such as John Woo, Ringo Lam, Choi Hark and Ronnie Yu have already solidified a position in Hollywood. And of course Jackie Chan with Rumble in the Bronx and First Strike is doing alright for himself as well. With the hand back to China sadly, things don't look good for an industry that prides itself on its commerciality and irreverence. But now is not the time to be pessimistic. We'll just have to wait and see. Enough of the editorialising, and on with the show. And to the film that nearly killed Jackie Chan, Armour of God, otherwise known as Invincible Brothers. I won't go into details about Jackie's nasty accident, because being the true showman that he is, Jackie shows you the stunt going wrong over the closing credits. What a guy. Mainstream Hong Kong films have often copied the latest Hollywood hit, and they're quite honest about it. Even Jackie refers to Armour of God as his Indiana Jones film. The difference being that while Harrison Ford is probably quaffing Bollinger in his trailer, Jackie is busy bouncing down the side of a cliff. As usual, the plot is irrelevant in a Jackie Chan film. It's the action the punters want to see, and this film delivers. It's no surprise that internationally this is one of Jackie's highest-grossing films. And a quick word to those people who might have seen the poorly dubbed video version of this film. Not only is tonight's print subtitled, of course, but it is also the original Hong Kong version, which has at least an extra ten minutes of footage, including a flashback to the band Jackie's character used to sing in. Check out the wig. Here it is, one of Jackie Chan's best, Armour of God. SBS advises that the following program has been classified M. It contains violence.
