M.T.V. is proudly sponsored by Coca-Cola and Smith's Crisps. But I think we've got a hit. Yeah. Tonight on MTV, we've got a plethora of premier video performances from Concrete Blonde, Motley Crew, The Pretenders, Winger and those two geeks from Glasgow, The Proclaimers. We meet Hockney Recording Act, The Slow Club and World Premiere Venue. We talk to Barnsie about his national tour. We announce Eric Clapton's forthcoming Sortie Down Under. We catch up with L.A. cult band Mary's Danish and The Stones talk about their next concert movie. We've got Anna Christensen coming in to play us a song live in the studio. In Addicted to Style, we check out the latest in Ice Mode fashion. We've got Paul Norton, Bananarama, The Beloved, Third Eye, Iggy Pop teams up with one of the B-52s. We play our video of George Michael's current smash. We do some good oils and hear from Peter and Rob. And via satellite, we'll be chatting with those heartthrobs of yesteryear still going strong in the 90s, Juran Juran. All that and a whole lot more tonight on MTV. Good evening to you. Thanks for your company and welcome to MTV. We're going to kick off the show tonight with Concrete Blonde, the Los Angeles band who've achieved a long overdue mainstream breakthrough with their current album Bloodletting and of course the song Joey has been top five for some time now. Now this is the second video from the album shot in a little club in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles and you might find it a little difficult to recognize Johnette Napolitano in some of the scenes as they trip from era to era. You do get to see her famous tattoo though. For the first time in Australia, this is Caroline, Concrete Blonde. That's Caroline, the newie from Concrete Blonde. That single will be out November, December. That's if you haven't already got the album Bloodletting, which comes highly recommended. It was of course Australia that first hooked onto Concrete Blonde big time and Johnette says it's the one place in the world she doesn't mind being called a pop star and I'm delighted to let you know that Concrete Blonde will be touring later this year. The tour kicks off on the 27th of November and goes right up to Christmas time. A Concrete Blonde for Christmas, how about that? Onto another premiere. This is the fourth release from Motley Crue's Dr Feelgood album. Some good concert footage here featuring Bubblecam. Same old situation, this is Motley Crue. Nominated for Lyric of the Year, that one. That's Motley Crue with, what's it called again, same old situation. The Motley's one of the many highlights of course of the MTV Awards a couple of weeks back, as were Faith No More who are coming up later tonight and probably the highlight of the awards for me was INXS, of whom we have a mega dose on MTV tomorrow night. We'll be talking exclusively with three of the biggest Australasian acts ever, ACDC, John Farnham and INXS. We'll also be featuring Midnight Oil, Della Metri and Eric Clapton and we ask you to dial up MTV and tell us if you think we should be told as concert goers when an artist is miming during their show. It's a topical and controversial subject, just part of a huge one planned for Saturday night, live right here on MTV. Ah yes, preparing for the Midnight Munchies, nothing like a little frog burger to get the juices flowing. This is MTV Music Television and it's time to take a look at the fast-breaking world of rock and roll, all the news that is news to tell us what's happening. Former PR girl for the Depto Lumberyard, now full-time Chief of Stuff here at MTV, Alison Dreher, how are you doing? God, you read my bios, don't you? Yeah, I've been right through, starting to repeat myself. Music news, part one. Oh yes, well some big, breaking tour news. Eric Clapton will tour. The guitar maestro will bring a seven-piece band here for shows in Canberra, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Sorry Perth, not going to get there anyway. Tickets going on sale in Adelaide tomorrow. You can get your seats in other cities in about a fortnight's time. Clapton last played Australia about three years ago and he tends to suffer the Phil Collins Syndrome. Once on stage, he plays for hours, however Eric says he's limited his time on the road these days so he can enjoy other areas of his life. Yeah I do. I know I can't do it all the time because I like to live a fairly balanced life. I like to try and achieve a balance where I'm off the road or at home or with friends or doing other things, you know, otherwise I think it would just eat me up. I think you've got to keep one foot on the ground. But I do love the road and I know that's what I'm always going to do. It's my first choice above everything else is to be on stage. Eric Clapton, he'll be touring in November. Well arriving in the country next week for a couple of quick shows is English band The Beloved. The Beloved will be doing nightclub dates and a Sydney dance party and enthralling fans of that unique brand of techno-pop. The Beloved's first album, Happiness, has done well enough here for them to test Ozzy Waters. We'll have their new video later on.
