We have the scoop on the movie role that left Nicole nursing a cracked rib. And who's the beautiful blonde movie star on the cover of the new Vanity Fair? ET reveals her identity. This is Entertainment Tonight, the most watched entertainment news program in the world. And here is the top Hollywood news for Monday, November 8, 1999. Hi, everybody. I'm Bob Going. And I'm Mary Hart. You're hearing the details here first. Jerry Seinfeld is engaged. ET has learned one of Hollywood's most eligible bachelors popped the question over the weekend. And tonight we have the scoop about his surprise move. Soon it will be Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Seinfeld. Saturday evening after a romantic dinner in a SoHo restaurant, Jerry proposed to girlfriend Jessica Sklar. She'd recently broken off the relationship with a comedian and had started to date other men. The bride-to-be was taken completely by surprise by the offer of marriage, but she said yes. This past spring, Jerry sat in the front row next to his future grandmother-in-law as he watched Jessica walk down the aisle as the maid of honor at her sister's wedding. Jessica is a publicist for Tommy Hilfiger and is expected to keep her job after she ties the knot with Jerry. The marriage will be her second. Jerry had dated the much younger Shoshana Lonsonstein for a number of years, but didn't like to discuss the relationship. I would have nothing to say. The couple broke up in 1997. He was rumored to have dated a number of models before meeting Sklar. Jerry has picked out a ring for his fiancé, which is still being made. No wedding date has been set. Hey, congratulations guys. And in the meantime, even a cracked bone couldn't keep Nicole Kidman from teaming up with Tom Cruise to bring a little bit of Hollywood to the land down under. Looking none the worse for wear, Nicole Kidman, accompanied by husband Tom Cruise, joined the all-star celebration of the opening of Fox Studios in Australia. Nicole is in Sydney preparing for her latest film, Moulin Rouge. She's on the mend after cracking a rib while rehearsing her role as the nightclub star in the city's highest paid courtesan. There's not much to say because we haven't started yet. We're very excited. A must-see star's rapid recovery leads off tonight's ET News brief. Kelsey Grammer's health update. I feel great. Two weeks today I had my surgery. Kelsey gave ET the details at his first public appearance since his emergency appendectomy, which halted production on Frasier. He joined Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones at a gala fundraiser benefiting the Entertainment Industry Foundation, and Kelsey says he's thrilled to be getting back in the swing of things. I'm taking it very easy, but I'm going back to work tomorrow. The fourth annual Young Star Awards. It's kids running around going, oh my gosh, oh my gosh, look who's here, look who's here. Giving her fans plenty to look at, Melissa Joan Hart co-hosted the event, sponsored by The Hollywood Reporter. Also on hand, The Sixth Sense's star Haley Joel Osment, who is still talking about co-star Bruce Willis. He was very funny. Meg Ryan is Vanity Fair's December cover girl. In the telling interview, Meg reveals she is bored with the romantic comedy genre that has made her one of Hollywood's most bankable stars. She tells contributing editor Michael Schneerson, quote, I have to say that You've Got Mail was not any kind of stretch for me, and I can't have that experience again. I'm just not that interested in it. She's a smart woman who wants to reach for parts that have more sort of grit. And when it comes to her home life with husband Dennis Quaid, Meg stays grounded. When they're up on the ranch, she does a lot of the cooking and cleaning. Tomorrow on ET, we'll show you Vanity Fair's special Millennium photos featuring Ricky Martin, Michael Jordan, and one naked star. That issue comes out in New York Wednesday and then across the country one week from tomorrow. Denzel Washington is the new man to beat at the weekend box office. There's a killer out there. He's lapping at us. The Bone Collector brought in over $17 million to land at number one, and the thriller earned high marks on our ET website. Joy said it had good suspense and action. Denzel Washington did a great job. Chris O'Donnell's comedy The Bachelor placed second, and while ET moviegoers liked the film, Brian couldn't believe O'Donnell was dragging his heels on his way to the movie altar. What kind of fool wouldn't want to marry Renee Zellweger? She has to be one of the sweetest, sexiest actresses around. Last week's number one film, House on Haunted Hill, dropped to third, but the biggest response on our website was regarding the weekend's number four film, The Insider, which received nearly unanimous praise. One viewer summed it up saying, Al Pacino and Russell Crowe give outstanding performances. Definitely Oscar caliber. And executives at the studio behind the new James Bond film are reportedly fuming about the movie's illegal appearance on the Internet. The World Is Not Enough doesn't open for 11 days, but already bootleg copies have hit the web. His missions as James Bond may be top secret, but Pierce Brosnan is telling us everything about the news he's made in real life. Pierce is getting married, and he talks about the proposal in the ET interview with Jan Carl. Somewhere next year, someplace next year, well, we've got the date and the place, but of course, that's ours. Keeping Maumont the matrimonial details, Pierce told me his proposal to Keely Shaye Smith wasn't traditional. Are you a get down on one knee kind of guy? I didn't get down on one knee because we were too busy holding on to each other and just hugging each other and kissing. I knew I'd found a great lady when I found Keely. I thought, just let it take its course, and our love and our life will find a time to kind of say, you know, will you marry me? Will you be my wife? Quite some wet weather. Preparations continued for tonight's premiere of The World Is Not Enough, which is being catered by Spago's Wolfgang Puck. First-nighters will see a whole new batch of Bond gadgets, none of which seem to interest Pierce. I hate gadgets. I'm terrible with gadgets. I hate gadgets. You're going to be the only guy that doesn't like a gadget. I hate gadgets. I hate computers. I mean, on the first Bond movie, they gave me a computer, a beautiful computer, one of those kind of things that open up like that. I opened it up, turned it on, and thought I'd write a screenplay, you know, fade in. Turn it off. Fade out. Pierce is also struggling with another new concept, being a grandfather. His adopted daughter Charlotte, who he raised with first wife Cassandra, is the culprit. I've been her daddy since, you know, she was five. I know. I know. And I was Pierce. I was daddy Pierce, and then I was dad. I'm your dad. And now I'm granddad. Granddad. Puppy. Granddad. I'm a grandfather. You're having trouble saying it. Grandpa, can I help you? Yeah. Yeah? You'll be late. I don't want to talk. No. No, I can take it. I've got broad shoulders. Grandpa Pierce. Hmm. Well, we could put a stop to the rumors. Pierce tells me he definitely will do another Bond movie, but his priority now is time off with his family. And Mary and Bob, I'll be at the premiere tonight for all of our special coverage. And we have the only cameras inside. That's right. We'll be at the party. Cool. Have fun. Thanks, Jen. Coming up on Entertainment Tonight... Your peek at tonight's Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? We'll show you one of the questions for the next contestants of Regis' Quiz Show. Farrah Fawcett. Ryan O'Neill's daughter Tatum talks about her dad's violent temper and abusive relationship with Farrah. What Ally McBeal tells her new therapist on tonight's episode. We have your preview as Betty White takes on Ally's problems. That's next on Entertainment Tonight. The Doctor is in for Ally McBeal. A new cast member has come aboard to help with Ally's personal problems, and you won't believe the prescription. Two weeks ago, I met this guy at a car wash. Well, actually, we hadn't met. I just wanted him. He wanted me. So right there in the rinse section, boom, off came the clothes. We made love. And last week, I kissed a woman. If I could give you just a tad of Zoloft. No. As her fill-in therapist, Betty White gets the lowdown on Ally's whacked-out love life. But as these exclusive ET clips show, her advice throws Ally for a loop. She wants to put me on an antidepressant. And she won't take no for an answer. I've been a therapist since before you were born, so you're going to have to trust me when I tell you that you won't find happiness through love or by turning to God. It comes in a pill. I'm a nice little old lady. The only thing is that all the pills that I recommend to her, I'm also taking. It can even be joy in the taking. Mine comes in suppository form. Gives me a little wriggle. This is just the latest turn for Betty, who was recently honored on the set of her new series, Ladies Man, for her 50-year career. But the animal lover says it was nothing compared to the fun she had with Ally. First of all, I fell in love with her dog. Everybody brings dogs to work. Webster is Calista's dog, so from 5.30 in the morning, he's in the makeup trailer. Also, Billy is going to seek help tonight as well. He ends up going to an encounter group for male chauvinists. Oh, well now, this is a good thing, Bob. Drew Carey may soon be looking for some help as well. The Drew Carey Show will perform without a safety net by going live. We were there for the last-minute rehearsals for an E.T. first. We're a well-oiled machine, man. I'm telling you, most of us know our lines all the time. Hi, welcome to our live broadcast of the Nymph-ish hit. Drew and the cast of his sitcom are almost ready for Wednesday's Daring Live broadcasts on ABC. Instead of their usual taped show, they'll be doing separate live episodes for the Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific time zones. Now take your pants off. I love you. We have a little time off between each one, but I think that they're just going to get increasingly bizarre as the night goes on. Helping out is the usually unflappable cast of Carey's other show, the totally improvised Whose Line Is It Anyway. What are you going to do with that improv? See, that's improvised. I'm stymied. I'm buckwheated. My worst fear is that I'll get the giggles. And Drew's worst fear? That none of the jokes will work. Next, in the Entertainment Tonight cover story. Judge Judy weighs in with a verdict on her real-life husband. Our Mark Steinis risks her wrath to find out what really goes on at home with Judge Jerry. Are you having a good time doing this interview? I'm having a ball. Anything else you want to know? Did Ryan beat Farrah for the first time? A family member speaks out as Tatum O'Neill talks about her dad, Farrah and the alleged abuse. We have one of the questions from tonight's Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Your preview of Regis Philbin's quiz show. That's next on Entertainment Tonight. Judge's Judy and Jerry each hand down their own brands of justice during their dueling TV shows. But who calls the shots in their real-life relationship? Our Mark Steinis goes home with a courtroom couple in the Entertainment Tonight cover story. In my house, I do all the jobs. Really? Yes, I do all the jobs. Oh, he's not going to like that when we show him that. He knows it's true. Well, he does. He knows it's true. That's the end of the show. The truth and nothing but the truth. That's what I heard from TV's only courtroom couple about their bi-coastal marriage. And it quickly became clear who wears the pants beneath those robes. Why would a man do that, Mr. Abbasi? Men are experts at learned helplessness. They will do a job and they'll do it purposefully badly so that you never ask them to do it again. I don't know why she's criticizing me. She used to see me with my new joystick on the air attack game on my computer. I'm an expert. Let me show you around. Judge Jerry played tour guide inside the high-rise Manhattan apartment they share with their beloved dog Lulu. Every other week, Judy flies to L.A. to tape her show, but I caught them at home. Hi, sweetheart. With your joystick. Humor, they say, helps them through the little misunderstandings. Like the case of the wrong birthday pearls. I told him I wanted the double strand with the clasp that you can't see, that you can make two strands out of. And I told him where not to go. And then I opened the box and I looked at him and I said, this is not what I ordered. I heard one word, pearls. Sorry, fellas. Jerry was also held in contempt the time he bought his wife a telephone for their anniversary. I suggested that he perhaps wear it around his neck. It had more buttons and more gadgets than any other telephone I've ever seen in my whole life. And I couldn't imagine why she wasn't as thrilled with it as I was. Are you having a good time during this interview? I'm coming to Paul. Anything else you want to know? Is there a habit that he's been trying to get you to break, maybe? Or should we just believe that you're perfect? You believe whatever you want to believe. Turns out Judge Judy will never be confused with Julia Child. I don't cook. I don't cook. I don't keep food in my house, except for the dog. This is the cupboard where she's supposed to keep food. There's not one item of people's food in here at all. All dog food. You eat three meals a day out. When you come home, there's nothing to eat. You're thirsty, you drink water. Right? And if you're hungry, you can have dog food. And if you don't want dog food, then you eat nothing until the next morning. That is a good diet. Wonder if they have her house guests. Judy tells us she's heading to Australia to promote her show and that Jerry's planning to meet her there for a little vacation. Now tomorrow on ET, continuing sadness for John Kennedy Jr.'s sister. Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg. How she's dealing with her first birthday alone since the death of JFK Jr. She said, I cry and I cry all the time. And she said that she can't stop crying. That's how difficult this has been for her. They used to celebrate their birthdays together. Now we reveal how she's holding up without John. When Good Pets Go Bad returns to TV. A bear maul's a reporter. A lion paws a woman. All new animal attacks in the scariest special yet. That's tomorrow. It is a sad and shocking report about Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O'Neill's relationship. Ryan's daughter Tatum is breaking her silence and talking about the abuse that allegedly went on behind closed doors. These new pictures in Talk Magazine show Farrah Fawcett on the rebound. In the accompanying article, Tatum O'Neill claims that her father Ryan was abusive in his 17-year relationship with Farrah. In the issue that starts hitting newsstands Wednesday, Tatum says, My dad was a spengali for her. He took over her life, her career, but there was a price. He had a terrible temper and was very violent. He beat her up. In Tatum's eyes it was a very troubled, very violent relationship. She said he was a very violent man with a violent temper, and she's bitter about it. In response to Tatum's allegations, Ryan said, Was Farrah involved with overbearing men in a difficult place? Yes, I'll leave it at that. But contributing writer Mimi Swartz kept asking. So I said, well, did you ever hit her? And he said, well, let's leave it at that. All Farrah said was, he was a bully, but I was never afraid of Ryan. In the article, she seemed more concerned that people not think she's crazy. And after spending time with her, Swartz thinks Farrah is just fine. I think she's doing real well. I mean, I think Hollywood isn't a place that cares about women in their 50s very much, and I think she's figured out how to make it work. Elsewhere, embattled baseball great Pete Rose will make a rare TV talk show appearance. The former player who came under attack during an interview in the World Series will appear on the Martin Shorts show, November 19. Regis Philbin is back in prime time and set to give away millions to the winners. And after last night's debut, his Big Bucks Quiz Show is already a winner in the ratings. Ready to win a million dollars? I'm ready. All right, let's play. The millionaire craze continued last night. ABC tells ET that an estimated 25 million viewers tuned in to watch the first of 15 new episodes. That's up about 3 million viewers from the last episode of the game show's summer series. And today host Regis Philbin was in a mood to celebrate. He surprised Barbara Walters with a kiss on the view and crowed about the ratings' success to his talk show's co-host, Kathy Lee Gifford. Listen to this. Here's how it went last night. 16 rating, 21 share. Thank you very much. And while last night's big winner walked away with only $32,000, tonight's contestants have their eyes on the $1 million prize. And we have your exclusive sneak preview of one of tonight's brain teasers that could be a step toward a million bucks. For the $8,000 question, here it is.
